upgrade operating system on Pavilion Desktop

Question: upgrade operating system on Pavilion Desktop

I have a Pavilion desktop s3750t. It runs on a Vista operating system. I want to know if it is possible to upgrade it to a newer operating system so I can purchase a new printer? If so how much will it cost or can I do it myself?

Preferred Solution: upgrade operating system on Pavilion Desktop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I must reinstal my laptop, so can somebody help me? Which operating system is most suitable for these laptops - HP Pavilion G7 1200em wiht 4GB of RAM memorise?Thank in advice!

Answer:Best operating system for HP Pavilion G7 1200em

HI. The best operating system is the one that always comes with the factory equipment since the drivers and devices made for system, otherwise if you have a simple integrated graphics and modis RAM memory, it is recommended windows 7 32 bit if you do not think about Update the memory, although windows 10 came out to be faster than windows 7, for many computers is not, as your hardware does not feel good or has compatibility problems and drivers. The decision is yours. If in the future you think to upgrade it is recommended 64-bit system. To know that the old graphics with windows 10 usually overheat more than usual. Regards.

I have a HP Pavilion 7dv that was working fine for a few years. Then one day it shut down and when I restarted it the computer asks for a startup password.  I have researched online to find passwords and have used a variety of ones I have found and nothing works.  It always loops back to the blue screen that says "Automatic Repair" - your PC did not start correctly.  I have the option of restarting or using advanced options.  Either way, when I try to fix the problem it always goes to a black screen that asks for the startup password.  I cant seem to get past that page.  If anyone could give me a way to enter a passcode or work around that would be great.  Thank you

Hi: You posted that your PC is running W10 32 bit. It originally came with W7. If you had previouly upgraded to W10, you can download the 64 bit version of W10, and clean install it by using the media creation tool from the link below. Read the info under the section labeled 'Using the tool to create installation media.' https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 During the installation process, when you are asked to enter a product key, there will also be an option to select: 'I don't have a product key.' Select that option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are reconnected to the internet.

I am using a 1-year-old Pavilion laptop with Windows 10 installed only a few months ago. Today, suddenly I have noticed many issues that appear to be with the OS- all programs are having trouble responding, with no obvious pattern. The start menu is often failing to open. Ctrl-alt-delete leads me to a blank screen. Sometimes the computer freezes entirely. Often my only option is to just turn the computer off. Restarting does not solve the problem. I don't know what's causing this - windows updated a few days ago, as did some hp updates, but other than that i'm stumped. I'm using this computer to study for exams in a foreign country so I need help ASAP!!!

Answer:pavilion laptop having operating system problems

I can advise to roll back the last update of windows may be some of the updates was the cause of your bug

Hi,

I bought HP laptop with the above said model from HP on 1st of september 2007 in sweden.
but i want to install Orcad v15.7 on my laptop but this software is compatible only for upto windows 2003 server or previous version of microsoft operating systems.
so when i want to install windows XP operating system, i couldn't able to install since it was saying that it didnt recognize the hard disk and its necessary drivers in hard disk as well.

since I bought this laptop only to use orcad v15.7 version(latest version) as my primary need. when i approached their service point they said it is not possible and you can find it in our website also about non compatibility of the other operating systems even it is from microsoft also.
but they did not say while i am buying laptop from them about the compatibility of other operating system it is due to faith on HP laptops..but now they say that it will not.
then it is of o use to buy laptop from HP since they are controlling the freedom of choice of choosing operating system to use on HP laptops by the customer.
It is simply cheating the customer.

if any body suggests about how to get hardware drivers to install on HP laptop.
it would be a great help for me.

thanks and regards,
vasu

Answer:installing a dual boot windows operating system with vista on HP pavilion dv6500 lapt

Try and read this.
http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-85807-HP-Pavilion-dv6565ca-HD-SATA-driver.html

It mentions finding the intel SATA driver, putting it on a floppy, and pressing F6 during the WinXP install and loading the SATA drivers.
Then WinXP installer should find the hard drive.

However if you want to keep Vista around, you will have to resize your partition before attempting to install XP.
To do this you would need Partition Magic or GParted.

Then when you do install XP you have no guarantee that you will be able to find drivers for everything. Since HP doesn't seem to want to support XP, you will probably have to try installing drivers from the hardware makers. For example if the motherboard uses an Intel chipset, you will need the reference drivers from intel. I think it uses a GeForce video chipset, so you would need drivers from Nividia. You would also need ethernet drivers from whoever made the network chipset.
Its going to be a bit of searching.

If you can return it, try and find someone still making xp laptops, or at least still offering drivers for the hardware if you choose to install xp.

Hello,  I purchased RAM to upgrade my HP Pavilion Slimline 400 Desktop PC.  I've installed additional RAM in a Dell PC I used to own with no problem.  This will be my first attempt at an hp.  After watching videos online,  I am getting confused.  One video shows the RAM just inside the side panel.  Another states that I will need to remove the optical drive first.  Does anyone know of a good video on how to get to the RAM to get this accomplished?  Thanks, Alan

Answer:Re: HP Pavilion Slimline 400 Desktop PC RAM upgrade

@alant1,Welcome back.  Remove the side panel, and as the video shows, you may have to slide the DVD/CD drive to access the RAM slots.  Slimlines are very compact.

Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook AH512 Intel Pentium B960 6GB 750GB HDMI 15.6" Laptop

This post is related to the laptop detailed above.

This is a new laptop, as yet unused, still in its original packaging. The laptop has installed Windows 8, which I would like to upgrade to Windows 10. This should be easy enough, as I've already performed the upgrade to Windows 10 on my desktop computer without any problem. However, before doing anything to this new machine, I'd also like to add a second operating system, Windows 7, to the same hard drive, and would be very grateful if anyone reading this post could explain, in very simple terms, how I would go about doing this. Ideally, I'd like to be able to choose which operating system to use each time I start the laptop. Please include as much detail in your reply, with step by step guide. All constructive responses welcome. Many thanks.

I am running an old computer with ME. I am going to get XP. However there appears to be an upgrade version of XP and the whole XP operating system. I assume that the upgrade option will be easier to install. Which is the best and easiest option?.Any comments gratefully received

Answer:How to upgrade from ME operating system to XP

If you want to keep all your old programs and settings, go for the upgrade. If you want to start afresh with a clean installation of XP, nothing saved, go for an oem or retail copy of XP. You can always burn your old data to cd\dvd.Make sure your ME computer has enough grunt to run XP. A 1ghz cpu and 512Mb of ram is a good starting point.

Here are details of a Desktop OS I've just come across and I've just signed up to a free 28 day trial.Admittedly, you have to pay a monthly fee for the use of this desktop OS, but the various price plans are so cheap, I think it would be worth considering after the trial period. You can download and save it onto Flash memory stick. There is no need for installation so partitioning is not needed as far as I can ascertain.Desktop On Demand - Your Private Online Desktopclick hereclick here

Answer:Pavilion 8635 Desktop Motherboard upgrade

The problem you will have assumming you get a motherboard that will do you is, the windows for the HP will almost certainly fail validation. You would need a new copy of windows as it would recognise it was a new motherboard and wouldn't work.Sorry but I really think the better option is to get a barebones system and a new copy of windows (about £60 for the windows) click here add either the hard drive from your old system and the CDROM from it or buy new ones and you have a new PC.

I bought my daughter an Acer Aspire One D257 - despite the fact that it came with Windows 7, but only 1GB of RAM. I really wanted an XP machine, but it seems they no longer do them. I know that W7 Starter was supposed to be much more able to run in 1GB than full-up W7 - but I was still nervous.
Well, inevitably, the netbook hangs periodically - just becomes unresponsive for a few seconds. Given that it's pretty new, the only cause seems to me to be W7 thrashing around in too little memory.
So, what to do? I could upgrade the RAM to 2GB. It'll support that, and I've found a video of a guy doing it on YouTube. It doesn't look too painful - but I'm very nervous about pulling small PCs apart and putting them back together.
Alternatively, I could downgrade the netbook to XP. I'm well versed in installing XP - but the problem that occurs to me is the driver problem: if XP isn't supported on the machine, will I be able to identify and downlolad all the XP drivers I'll need? I've found a couple of very helpful sites, and I think it's do-able - although the sites refer to the slightly earlier model in the Acer Aspire range.
But before I take the plunge, I thought I'd ask the wizards of the forum what they'd do - or, in fact, if any of them has come across this problem before, and how they fixed it?
Anyone?
PS: a third option I'm thinking about is to dual boot the machine, which is easier to do when W7 is already installed than when XP is already installed. That way, unless I inadverte... Read more

Answer:Upgrade RAM or downgrade operating system

I have a HP Mini 210 that came with 1Gb RAM and Win 7 Starter. It was slow. I upgraded to 2Gb RAM and Win 7 Home Premium with the result that it is a delight to use. It will never be a speed machine but it is perfectly useable. Personally I would upgrade the RAM first, try again and if you are still unhappy then revert to XP. Answer:Inspiron Desktop 660s, need ISO for operating system?

Dell does not and never has provided Factory Reinstall ISO's.  They also do not provide DVD for reinstall if warranty is expired or windows is no longer supported for XP VISTA 7.   Digital River downloads for Windows 7 ISO are also gone from microsoft.  You can get windows 8 disks from Ebay and Amazon.  Windows 8.1 disks are also out there.  Windows 10 reinstall media is USB Flash.  You can also buy OEM System Builder copies for 7 8 10.  Windows 10 is the ONLY os availble retail and support wise at this point.

first, Windows XP was released many years ago (since end of 2001). and secondly, many people won't upgrade into windows 7 because already fans windows xp, others because don't have money for upgrade to windows 7 original ,and upgrade hardware. Not all people have ram more than 2GB.
atleast 1.5GB or 2GB for windows xp. or even just have 1GB or less.
It's fact ,was already in many comments at many sites which talk about windows series.
but, You can read more at this.

My computer was working fine just until yesterday and this message came up today when i turned it on,
Do you have any suggestion as to what I can do to fix this?

Thanks!

Answer:Desktop problem (no operating system detected)

Sometimes...when the CMOS battery is weakening, it impacts the BIOS settings. They can be goofy, they can return to default settings. On some systems the default setting may be via network, which is what appears to be the case with your system (if I'm right about the CMOS battery).

You can try going into the BIOS and checking the boot options and ensuring that the boot drive is the first option. But, if they changed once without user manipulation...they may change again.

I would try a new CMOS battery.

If the current BIOS settings call for the system to boot from the hard drive...then we have a different situation.

I looked at: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-p6700-desktop-pc-series/5035348/model/5... For this model, HP does not offer to sell you a "System Recovery" set (one USB memory-stick) to reinstall Windows 7.You might try:  www.ComputerSurgeons.com to see if they have that item for purchase.

Does anyone know if the HP Pavilion Slimline s5325uk Desktop PC can be fitted with a 2gb graphics card?  Recently bought a game which needs this as a minimum. Thanks in advance.

Answer:HP Pavilion Slimline s5325uk Desktop PC upgrade option

Hi, Your PC is not really suitable for modern games.  However, if you wish to find a graphics card that meets your requirements then look for the following: Low profile, single width, non-UEFI graphics card that is rated by the manufacturer to work with a 220 watt power supply. Measure the length of your existing graphics card so you will know the length size limitation. Perhaps you can find this Nvidia graphics card on eBAY or somewhere else.

i need a free disc to upgrade from windows vista home premium 32 bit to either vista 64 bit or windows 7. please let me know if i can have free discs sent to me. thank you

Answer:HP Pavilion V6300 Desktop PC. upgrade with free disc

Unfortunately that is very unliely to happen. Operating system licenses are not for free. There never was a free path to upgrade from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 or to Vista 64-bit.  There was an either or scenario that existed in Enterprise model desktop PCs if purchased that way, but yours is an eight year old consumer version.  That makes it a moot point. Microsoft does not support Vista nor sell copies of the operating system anymore.  That boat sailed quite a while ago.

Can I upgrade Nvidia graphics card to latest cards or supported one from Nvidia.

The reason to change the graphics card is, it is over heating and crossing the 100 degree celsius which reports in black screen and suddenly crashes.

So anyone can tell me which is the suitable graphics card that will support HP Pavilion P6270IN Desktop .
What will be the upgrade process with new graphics card?

Please suggest.

Below is the Product information:
Link : HP Pavilion P6270IN Desktops
Prod: AU930AA#ACJ

Hardware Information:
Motherboard: IPIEL-LA3 (Eureka3)
RAM: 4GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT220
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500

Answer:How to upgrade Graphics card of HP Pavilion p6270in Desktop PC

You have a PCI-e slot on your motherboard so theoretically you can fit any of the latest cards. It's not that simple though, for starters you only have a 300W PSU which will limit you to the most basic cards and is probably why a GT220 is fitted. You'd need at least a 450W PSU to run a decent card.
You only have a dual core CPU too which will bottleneck any of the latest nVidia cards.
Lastly is case size, some of today's cards are absolutely massive and the chances are most would be too big for your case.

One thing to try to get your GPU temperatures down is to remove the side panel from the case (with the power switched off and every external cable unplugged) and give the machine a good clean out with a soft brush and a can of compressed air. Dust build up can easily block the heatsink on the GPU (as well as other components) which will stop it from cooling properly.
Are you using this machine for gaming by any chance?

I recently upgraded my system's graphics card and processor to an FX 6300 with an R7 250X. I had some issues with my old OS, so I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro.

After these upgrades, I'm now getting various different BSOD's (Blue screen of death) upon boot and while using the machine. For example, NTFS_FileSystem_Error, Kernel_security_check_failure and several more which I cannot remember off the top of my head.

In addition to that, I get error messages on start-up for various different programs, sometimes Google Chrome fails to launch, and I'm unable to use any of the Windows Metro apps - they simply launch and then crash.
Iv'e got all the latest drivers, I've ran an HHD check within windows, and a RAM test using memtest86 and nothing abnormal was found. I can play games when I'm not getting BSOD's at solid FPS, which shows me that all of my new hardware is not at fault.
It's getting to the stage where I'm considering downgrading to Windows 7 again.

I'd appreciate any help that I can get on this. Thanks in advance. I can post anything else that would help you guys out with troubleshooting.

Hello, I'm looking for some advice please as my computer is broke and I'm stuck without it.
Last weekend it just stopped working, I used it in the morning with no problems then in the afternoon I turned it on and it wouldn't start up, long story short is I ended calling Dell and they have told me that my computer has automatically upgraded to Windows 10 but my Dell XPS 7100 isn't compatible with it, now I have no operating system at all!
I paid them £119 for a years support and another £30 for a Windows 7 ultimate disc which they say I'll receive tomorrow (Friday)
I use my computer for work as I'm self employed and need to prepare quotes and invoices etc for my customers, I've been all week without it now and am fuming that this has happened, I didn't even want Windows 10, why would it upgrade automatically? It's cost me a lot of time and has now cost me money and I don't even know if all my files will be there when it's working again.
Just thought to vent on here and see if anyone has any advice, I'm also not happy that I've had to pay for Windows 7 ultimate again as I already bought it once with my computer but it seems it was preloaded so I didn't get a disc which I now need to reinstall, Dell support said they will assist with the reinstall and then block Windows 10 from trying to do this again! Great now I feel under attack from the Windows 10 upgrade :-/

Answer:Windows 10 upgrade has deleted my operating system

Run your W7 disc and you will probably loose everything on your computer. I would wait and see what information that you get on here first.
In the meantime does your computer try to start or is it just dead.

Helping a friend on his Acer Aspire V5 laptop that was running an OEM Windows 8 to upgrade to 8.1.

After selecting the Upgrade to Windows 8.1 via the store, the system went through it's install procedure, however after it does an auto reboot, it gives you a blank screen with the message No Operating System found, in the upper left corner.

But, you can turn the machine off and back on, and it will boot just fine. However if you select restart it does the same thing "no operating system found", on restart and again you must power down and power back on.

I have searched for fixes, but all seem to point to some sort of re-install process. I am not to crazy about the idea of re-installing to factory settings or doing a repair back to Windows 8 and attempting to upgrade again, are their any known shorter fixes for this?

And if I do go back to Windows 8, and try to upgrade again, what is to say it won't happen again?

Answer:No Operating System found after Windows 8.1 upgrade

Microsoft Says Windows 10 Is Already the Number 1 Desktop Operating System

Microsoft has pushed really hard for Windows 10 to become a more widely-adopted operating system, and while third-party market share data shows that it lags behind Windows 7, the company itself claims things are exactly the opposite.

In statistics posted on its Windows and Store trends website, the software giant says Windows 10 is currently the number one operating system on the desktop with a share of 46 percent. Windows 7 is the runner-up with 39 percent and declining, while Windows 8.1 is third with 13 percent.

Microsoft says these stats were collected in November 2016 at a time when the Windows 10 Anniversary Update rollout was already finalized. The Anniversary Update first launched in August 2016, but was released to users in stages.
As you can see in the graph provided by the software giant, Windows 10 improved at a really fast pace since its debut in July 2015, but the growth slowed down a little in the last few months, especially because the free upgrade offer is no longer available.

Third-party data
While Microsoft clearly shows that Windows 10 is quite a successful operating system, third-party market research firms claim otherwise, putting Windows 7 at the top of the chart ever since its successor launched.

Specifically, NetMarketShare, which is one of the data providers that Microsoft itself cited several times in the past, claims Windows 7 is running on 48.34 percent of the world?... Read more

Answer:Microsoft Says Windows 10 Is Already the Number 1 Desktop Operating System

I've kept the thread title matching the article title, but it should actually read "Who is telling the truth?".

Microsoft clearly shows in their data that Windows 10 has edged over Windows 7. A trusted data source that Microsoft has cited in the past claims that Windows 7 is twice as used as Windows 10 (48% vs. 24%). That's a big discrepancy.

Answer:BSOD after hardware upgrade and operating system reload

When you say to reloaded Windows 7, does that mean you re-booted Windows or re-installed Windows. If you reinstalled Windows 7 it was completely unnecessary for a RAM upgrade, Windows would have picked up the extra RAM without any intervention from you.The first thing to do is check them memory is properly seated and is compatible with you motherboard. I hope this will help all the other user out there struggling to get their M.2 ssd to work with their HP Envy 17 laptops. I will give a step by step instructions on how to install and how allow the bios to recognize the m.2 ssd in slot 0, and how to install or run windows 10 off your m.2 ssd. 1. Download the latest updates from HP Envy from HP - I used Internet Download manager to download all the updates as of June 15, 2016. (Bios, drivers, software) http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers 2. Install your M.2 ssd Boot into Windows - Right click on My Computer on your desktop and select Disk Management, and  Format Disk 0 If you want to do a clean install and you did not update your HP ENVY with the latest software and drivers this is the screen you will see when you try to intall Windows 10 on your m.2 ssd. After successfully migrating your Drive C to your M.2, when you reboot your m.2 ssd should kick in. Right click on My Computer on your desktop and select Disk Management, you will notice now that Drive 1 is offline, it will conflict with your m.2 ssd drive, don't worry, you can right click on disk one and select go online, you can then start to delete main partition, I have not yet figu... Hi everyone,

I have an HP Pavilion DV6500 (exact model is DV6680ej - only sold in Israel) running Windows Vista Home Premium.
The notebook is 4 years old and yesterday when i turned it on after the battery died out it displayed a black screen with the message "no operating system found" (right after displaying the hp logo). Since then i used the F10 key to run the SELF-TEST for the HDD and after a quick check it displayed the error message "#10009 - Replace Hard Disk".
The notebooke's CD/DVD drive does not work, so i used a bootable DOK USB to run the Vista Recovey CD (not the installation cd) and tried to use all of the recovey options with no avail. i also used the command prompt to enter bootrec commands i read in some thread but non of them worked returning SUCCESSFUL for fixmbr, fixboot and for RebuildBcd returning:

"successfully scanned windows installations.
Total identified windows installations: 0
The operation completed successfully"

Then i tried running Hiren's bootCD which contains many testing software and ran the Seagate SeaTools HDD Test (for dos) which after a couple of seconds returned a Failed message.
I also ran Western Digital HDD diagnostic test and a after a couple of seconds it returned "Too many errors found" (or something like that).

I tried entering safemode by pressing the F8 key on bootup but nothing happens.
And when i got my hands on a Vista Installation CD (using DOK USB to load) i tried doin... Read more

It might work with an eSata port - if you have one on your laptop.

Old desktop with Windows XP dying. Have a choice of buying today a desktop with Windows 7 Home OS (8GB) or Windows 7 Professional OS (4GB) - same price. I have a small business - lot of old data, spreadsheets, accounting software. Won't be using it for gaming. Have heard Windows 7 Home makes it difficult accessing XP files and Windows 7 Professional would be more user friendly for this?
Have to make a decision today - your thoughts?

Answer:Buying new desktop - Windows 7 Home or Professional Operating System

Hello there & welcome to Seven Forums.
I'm assuming the 4GB & 8GB is referring to the quantity of RAM, right?

Windows 10 Accelerates Growth to Become World?s Top Desktop Operating System

The release of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update seems to help Microsoft?s latest desktop operating system, with statistics provided by NetMarketShare revealing a major share increase recorded in November.

The growth of Windows 10 has slowed down in the last 12 months or so, mostly because the majority of Windows 7 and 8.1 customers who were eligible for the upgrade to the new OS already performed the switch, but now it looks like the growth has gained more speed as a result of the Fall Creators Update launch.

Windows 10 was running on 31.95 percent of the desktop systems in November, NetMarketShare says, while Windows 7 continues to be the leader with 43.12 percent. While Windows 7 itself improved from 43.05 percent the month before, Windows 10 was the one gaining all the praises, as its market share skyrocketed from 29.86 percent in November.

This means that Windows 10 is getting closer to its 2009 sibling, though it?ll undoubtedly take longer than expected before a switch of positions takes place.
Windows 7 EOL
And while sooner or later Windows 10 will manage to take over Windows 7 and become the world?s number one desktop operating system, Microsoft certainly hopes this will happen as soon as possible because of one big reason.

Windows 7 will reach end of support in January 2020, which means that no other updates and security fixes would be released beyond this date.

I have a Dell e6510 that was running Windows 7 Pro. I received the windows 10 upgrade after reserving a copy a few weeks back. Before the updated I made sure my windows update was up to date. I kicked off the upgrade to Windows 10 and left for work. (I figured everything would be updated by the time I got home). When I got home I checked my laptop and saw the error, "An operating system wasn?t found. Try disconnecting any drives that don?t contain an operating system, Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart". I shut down the computer for about 15 minutes and turned it back on. Still received the same error. I only have one drive in the laptop so I had nothing to disconnect. I inserted my Windows 7 Pro Disk in the drive and did a LEGACY BOOT from the CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive.
The Windows 7 Menu came up and I hit next and was given to options

I selected repair your computer. System recovery options appeared and I selected restore your computer. Then I received an error saying ?To use system restore, you must select which windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select and operating system, and then select system restore.
I closed the window and let the computer restart. Received the error "An operating system wasn?t found. Try disconnecting any drives that don?t contain an operating system, Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart"

I'm new here so pardon if there is any mistakes.

Anyhow I am currently using windows 7 (not a fan of windows 8). Since windows 10 is released I wanted to install and try it.
Initially I installed windows 8.1 in my D:\ drive (works normally as far as I can tell), and upgrade it to windows 10. I am keeping my windows 7 in drive C: as I do not have any other working computer if the installation failed.

So halfway upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10, the upgrade failed and a restart is needed. When restarting I tried to reset the installation but even that is failed. When restarted again there is no operating system in that drive (drive D: ) ??

Currently I tried to reformat my drive D: (windows 10) with my current windows 7 (installed in drive C) but it says the volume is in use by another process but it refused.
Summary
Drive C: - windows 7, still functioning properly
Drive D - where windows 8.1 is located and upgraded to windows 10 but failed, currently cannot detect any os when i boot from drive D: , and cant format the drive.

I know its really stupid and complicated the way i installed my windows 8.1 with my windows 7 intact, but I'm worried if the installation failed, I have no backup computer to fall back. Is there any suggestions that I can do?

Answer:Windows 10 crashed during Upgrade. Unable to detect operating system.

Try booting Windows 7 to Safe Mode (F8) then see if you can format D: from there. Do a quick format, full format is not needed.

Here's the story. My dad's old desktop is on the verge of dying (it freezes every other second and is telling him on reboot that there is an error, giving him the option to "restore to previous settings" and continue.) It is an old (probably 8 years) E-Machines desktop and I've advised him to get a new one. My first questions...

Any suggestions for a new desktop?
One that will last him and will be durable. He is in his 60's, not crazy about complex features, and he primarily surfs the internet and makes spreadsheets and does other work on there. He doesnt need graphics or music or anything like that. I'm surprised that the E-machines has lasted this long, but is there a better brand for the buck?

This leads me to my second question.
How do I hook up my computer(laptop) to his desktop to retrieve important files?
Like I said, his computer freezes alot when he tries to get files so I want to backup, but its beyond the point of just pulling files. How can I hook my laptop up to his hardrive and take these important files off before it dies? Is there an easier way? And finaly...

How do I install Windows XP (or...vista *shudder* if we must go that route) on a completely wiped laptop?
He bought it from work for like 100 dollars and its about 3 years old, barely used. Though, it needs software. He doesnt mind buying it but people are talking about charging him 200-300 dollars for installation. Could I possibly do this for him, and if so CAN I USE MY ... Read more

Answer:Questions: retrieving files, installing operating system, picking a new desktop

Forget buying a brand name PC and spend the 2-300 dollars to have XP Home Edition installed unless you just love a challenge and want to try it yourself. XP Home Edition will probably come with most drivers needed for a 3 year old laptop and if not, the installers can get the needed ones from the manufacturers website.

I wouldn't suggest Vista because it hates anything with less than 1 gb ram (memory)

Then you can install only the software you need and not be burdened with using and then having to buy all the trial software that normally comes bundled on a Brand PC

As an example, I bought my daughter a new Sony Vaio w/Vista from Best Buy late last year and spent days uninstalling trial software(MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.) and tweaking Vista because it was so slow it was painful and that was with a 150gb HD and 1 gb of ram.

Answer:HP Pavilion Desktop a730n with Windows XP crashed after System Restore

How long did you leave the computer unplugged? If you just unplugged and plugged in right away your not giving the hardware time to reset. Unplug the computer and leave it sit for a bought 10 minutes. That should be enough time for the system to reset. I suspect it may be a hardware lock. Not ruling out software as yet.

Answer:operating system question about going back to prior operating system

yes you can. if you have NTFS and want to put back win98 or winME you need to format the volume with FAT32. you can use a win98 or winME startup diskette. or you can download one from www.bootdisk.com .

Hi-I bought a used Dell Optiplex 780 with no o/s installed to replace my old Dell Dimension 3000.  I have a brand new copy of Windows 7 to install on it.  I've reinstalled xp on my old computer 2 or 3 times so I'm not completely new to this but, I thought I'd try to find out as much as possible before I begin.  Any advice will be appreciated.  I am wondering - when I connect the keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Optiplex with no o/s, will it recognize the components so that I can begin the installation of Windows 7?

Answer:installing operating system on computer with no operating system installed

Hey all! I am pretty new to this kind of Win7 issues, so I hope some of you will be able to help. Story goes...

After few hours of gaming the computer died. (It happened right after switching keyboards.) Now, on every setup BIOS(?) comes up with list of options (F2 enter BIOS, F11 boot options, F6 Flash etc.). After that a black screen with error message comes up: Missing Operating System.

I tried rebooting from USB (since I have no disk-drive) and I keep on getting the answer: Error Loading Operating System.

Any ideas?

Thx

Answer:Missing Operating System/Error Loading Operating System

All unlikely, but possible - (a) your HDD died. (b) your bios became corrupted (c) your HDD boot sector became corrupted (d) your HDD partition is corrupted.

Does the drive spin up when you switch on (feel it)?
Check the bios to see if the HDD is reported correctly and is at the top of the boot order.
Find a bootable CD - an OS installer, or create Easeus partition manager bootable CD http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm and boot from it. What does the HDD look like with Easueus?

Hi! Can please someone tell me what maximum quantity of operating memory can I install in this notebook? What kind of memory does it fit? I mean modern which I can buy now.  Now there are:1 x Nanya NT2GT64U8HD0BN-3C 2 Gb1 x Samsung M4 70T2953EZ3-CE6 1 GbI didn't upgrade anything yet. I'd like to have 4 or more Gbs cause it became too slow now. Thanks a lot!

Answer:Hp Pavilion dv6915nr operating memory

Hi: The maximum memory you can install in your notebook is 2 x 2 GB of PC2-6400 memory (total 4 GB). You could remove the 1 GB chip you have in there now, and install a 2 GB chip. With 2 x 2 GB, the memory will then run in DDR mode instead of the SDR mode it is running in now. It is not going to make a whole lot of difference, but you may notice some slight improvement.
