Band 2 cortana bluetooth connection problem

Question: Band 2 cortana bluetooth connection problem

When using cortana on my band 2 it always comes up as turn on blue tooth or make sure its connected. I just recently decided to switch to the Microsoft platform because I could use cortana with my voice and band 2. I went through hell and back trying to convert my android info into the Microsoft eco system. I don't know why im so determined and stubborn to keep trying with Microsoft. Your products on paper seem so superior but in reality are sub par. The only reason I switched to a microsoft phone was the voice connectivity with cortana. What I found is that the band worked better with android as well as all the other apps that are cross functional. Why on earth does a Microsoft product have so many issues talking with its own brand. I think i'm returning the phone and possibly even the band, even after returning to the store 5 times and wasting so much of my time. I'm disappointed Microsoft, yet will probably still keep trying your products, why why why./

Preferred Solution: Band 2 cortana bluetooth connection problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Bluetooth connection is totally erratic, I have a nokia 1020 with my band since today and cant make them stayed connected. I have deleted all other connections and the issue persist. Its like cycling between connect and disconnect and doesnt even allow cortana to work

Answer:Why am I having Bluetooth connection issues between my Nokia 1020 and the band?

I'd like to bump this because I'm having the same exact issue. Cortana doesn't work at all. I had to reset the band 2-3 times before it'd finally at least work/sync. Hopefully it's a software issue.

installed intel ac-3160 dual band + blue tooth in a Sony notebook system wont allow blue tooth to start.
also there is no interface available to connect any hardware to it, i know it has something to do with some Vaio software on the system.
it allows me to use dual band mode and it shows that blue tooth is present but disables it claiming interference with 2.4 GHz band.
now i have had blue tooth dongles installed working while using 2.4 GHz band before with no issues, so i don't get the issue now.
any input would be appreciated.

Just preordered the Band and was wondering if Hey Cortana still works as it should while the Band is connected. Would the microphone for listening be the Band's? Or will it stay the phones, and the Band just works with Cortana when the button is held. :S

Answer:Microsoft Band & Hey Cortana

I just tested it out by yelling at my band about 10 times while my phone was in another room and had no success.
Not surprised as this feature is trained and setup on the phone itself. However, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them adding it to the band in the future. I'm not aware of a reason why it wouldn't be possible.

The error message states check bluetooth is on and make sure your phone is close. I've checked all the suggested settings and they appear to be correct. It does go through the stages of listening...thinking...just a sec.....Thanks for any suggestions!

Every time I hold down the action button I am given an error saying, "You must enable Cortana on your phone to use this feature." I have checked multiple times and Cortana is enabled both on the phone and the Band. I got the Band before Christmas and have been having the issue the whole time.

Answer:Why doesn't Cortana work on the Microsoft Band?

Did you check it is enabled in the Microsoft Health app. Also mentions something about being pinned to home page in there. Not sure if that is required.

Here is what I would like to accomplish - is it possible between the MS Band and Windows Phone.
I would like to set a wake up alarm that only vibrates my Band and does not alarm on my phone (without un-pairing/disabling Bluetooth, etc.)
Here is what I've attempted thus far with some results:
1) setting an alarm on the Band via Cortana - creates/syncs an alarm on both devices however the band alarm is suppressed when in sleep mode. The phone wakes me up but the band does not alarm.
2) setting an alarm directly on the phone - same thing as #1
3) setting an alarm directly on the band (no cortana.) the alarm is not suppressed when in sleep mode, thus waking me up, but my phone is going of too - which I don't want because it wakes the wife.
Is it possible??

Answer:Is it possible to link my Microsoft Band Alarm and Cortana?

Currently no, I've attempted the above and I'm going to proceed with #3 turning all alarms off on phone and use the Band to wake me in the morning. This is going to be a hassle, since I don't want to wake up at 430am on the wknds too...
We need a OS update to fix this.

The other day I went to reply to a text message by using cortana, and it listens then "thinking" before stating "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear anything"
I have a windows phone and this worked previously. Strangely, holding the action button to pull up cortana directly, works fine for everything else that uses Cortana. So this is only an issue with the reply feature. I already restarted both the band and the phone.
I posted this over at /r/microsoftband and it seems a couple others have noticed this as well starting after the last update.
Has anyone here noticed this too?

My keyboard won't stay connected to the Bluetooth. Windows disabled the Bluetooth and gave this messge: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." What is this and how do I fix it? I can't get my Logitech K810 keybaord to stay connected. It pairs, and works for awhile, then disconnests, even though it says it is connected. Driver update says the drivers in place are the right ones. I've also tried Bluetooth dongles to connect with, but I get the same problem -- connects for a while and then disconnects.

OK, this is my first time being a part of or using a tech related forum so here it goes:

I'm trying to help save a neighbor some money by fixing their wireless network.

WNDR3700 Dual band Netgear router.

2.4ghz wireless b/g/n with enabled SSID broadcast, channel=auto, mode set to 130Mbps
WPA-TKIP + WPA2-AES. wireless isolation is not enabled.

5Ghz wireless a/n enabled SSID broadcast, channel = 44, Mode is up to 300Mbps
No security encription. (i know...bad, but the lady has lots of kids and family members coming
and going from the house so she doesn't want one encripted). Video network enabled

Both Radio frequencies are enabled, fragment and CTS/RTS set to max

WPS settings = keep existing.

IPv6 not enabled, No repeating is enabled, No guest networks are enabled(however ssid broadcast is enabled for guest profile 1)
The problem, and reason for fixing the problem is that the 2.4 Ghz band light on the router is ON however the SSID is not being seen by any client in the house. the netgear interface says it is on and working. the neighbor needs the 2.4ghz band to work because the printer is wireless and will only recognize 2.4Ghz SSIDs. Also they have older nintendo DS clients they would like to use on the network.

During the day the 5 Ghz band works with very seldom (1-2) disconnects while the 2.4 Ghz band wont be visible to any device. in the evening both bands will come online, and very often will every computer get disconnected from either, the 5Ghz band wi... Read more

I just upgraded my laptop wireless adapter from "Broadcom BCM43142" to "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac" upon confirmed that the new card is supported from service manual.  Both latest Intel wireless and bluetooth drivers are installed (18.33.0.2 and 18.1.1611.3223 respectively). AC connection works perfectly fine; however, the bluetooth seems to be having issue here.  For pairing and maintain active connection between bluetooth device and laptop, I have to put them right next to each other literally.  Any distance more than 10cm apart, the bluetooth device will be inactive and unusable.  I don't have such problem with Broadcom which I can perform pairing and maintain active connection even a meter apart.  Does anybody face the same issue before with Intel AC 3160 bluetooth?  Or is this a hardware issue with the card itself?

Answer:Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 bluetooth issue

Hi @cfc723, Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand from your posts that you are having an issue with your HP Pavilion 15-p041tx Notebook and the new Wireless card you installed. The only one that was compatible in the service manual for a Intel processor was the Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi adapter.  Here is a link to the service manual. Thanks.

No. Sorry. That model still has the HP BIOS whitelist which will prevent the laptop from booting if anything other than officially sanctioned wireless cards are installed. None of the approved devices is an ac type receiver. Some are combination wifi/bluetooth. Post back if you are interested in locating and installing one of them.

My apologies if this isn't the correct thread for this post. In my opinion Bluetooth falls in the networking niche. Please move it to the appropriate thread if not. Thanks!

First off I want to thank you for any help you may provide and for this wonderfull website! This is my first post here as I am pretty tech savvy and don’t usually find myself in the position where I need to ask for help. With that being said I will get to the point of this post.

I recently bought a cell, a T-Mobile Sparq to be completely accurate, and tried to connect it to my laptop via Bluetooth. My laptop is an Asus G75VW which comes with BT capabilities. When I run the BT suite and click “Add a Device” it sits at the “Searching for a device.. Make sure your device is discoverable.” Prompt for as long as I let it without discovering my phone. I made sure my phone’s BT is active and discoverable. My next step was to go into my Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Component Services> Services (Local) to make sure BT and its dependencies where active, which they were. I updated all my related drivers and when that didn’t work I un-installed and re-installed them, to no avail. I checked my device manager to make sure there were no conflicts there and found nothing. I then spent a few hours on Google troubleshooting and was not able to find anything that I had not already tried. That’s when I decided to drop this problem onto the genius minds of the Tech-Guy forums for if they can’t so... Read more

So my bluetooth adapter should be here tomorrow, and i decided to make sure it was easy enough to hook up to windows on my macbook pro running windows 7 64 bit. it sees the headset, but says ' no drivers available'.

if i reboot the macbook into OS X, bluetooth works flawlessly and I can stream audio from the computer to the headset. its windows I'm having a problem with, and afraid I will have the same problem in Windows 10, which is what I am running on my desktop.

is there a Windows driver for the LG HBS-730 headset?

I want to stream game audio from the computer to the headset. Kind of sucks having to have Arkham City on super low volume, or wearing huge clunky headphones popular with WoW back in 2008.

Have you tried running the bluetooth adapter on a true Windows7 machine? Apps with drivers built for Win7 don't always work properly on Mac OS in boot camp or emulation mode.

Lumia 1520, windows 8.1 on developer, The problem is have is the volume of Cortana when connected to blutooth. When the phone is not connected to blutooth the volume is fine but when connected to the car the volume is about 13 out of 30, when you ask a question or get a text you cannot hear her unless you whack the car volume up to 30 to hear it, when the call ends and it goes back to radio / cd mode, the volume after setting to 30 blasts your earlobes out as that is now the volume of music, you quickly have to turn volume down by audio controls of steering or by the radio.
I have previously tested putting the blutooth volume at level 25 when its connected to car and you get the pop up, volume this high may cause damage to hearing. I'm not bothered about that as long as I can hear cortana via blutooth. Then after you turn phone off overnight and turn on in the morning. The blutooth volume resets.
My question is, is there any way to keep the volume of blutooth or Cortana above 20 without it resetting every time you turn it off then on. I had the exact same problem before putting dev preview back on my new mobile at the weekend

Yes. I've tried everything from buying 4 Bluetooth devices (upgrading each time and about to buy a 5th), using my inside voice, library voice, yelling, pleading, cursing Cortana out, covering the mic, placement of the device, power on & off, soft reset, hard reset using backup, hard reset then starting from scratch, used the Nokia recovery tool, twice, started from scratch, even factory reset the Bluetooth, twice, each time I used the recovery tool and informed MS. I take care of my devices. I don't drop them because I use a Bluetooth. I take the the Speck case off every week or 2 and clean the phone ports, crevices, polycarbonate body, inside and outside of the case. I don't let anyone handle my device without the case on it. The last set of hands that touched the polycarbonate body other than mine was whomever put it in the box. I'm rambling now, but you see where I'm coming from. Now is there anything else I can do other than deal with it and continue to post "Cortana sucks via Bluetooth" until I buy a WP9 device and hope my experience is better? I've downloaded and installed the latest bluetooth driver from the Lenovo website. What else can I do? Is the problem the laptop, bluetooth, windows 7 or what?

Answer:X121e bluetooth connection problem

Hi

You need to install following drivers first

1. Hotkey Drivers
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014985

2. Access Connection

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-73682

After installation restart the system , Turn on the Wlan Radio Button , after windows is logged in Press Fn + F5 button to verify the Bluetooth and Wlan status .

Then Make your computer discoverable , so that it can be accessed by other devices

Hope This Helps

So, this is now driving me absolutely insane, and I couldn't have better chances for success (or so I think).
I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad W530 (Windows 8), and I have a Lumia 920 (Windows Phone 8). Seems pretty darn compatible, right?
Well my issue is simply "They will not connect or cooperate well"

Let me first say that through a blurry mashing of key presses and strange settings windows I have gotten the two to connect before for music control. But only twice.

The issue I have is apparently on both the phone and the computer-
When I tap connect on the phone, it stays connected for a few seconds, then disconnects.
When I try and connect on the laptop, it won't connect at all.
When I try and open the bluetooth device window, it stay open for a couple seconds and then closes.
Sometimes the music controller window appears, then disappears.

My phone doesn't appear to have anything wrong with it, I have restarted the phone completely with no effect.
The computer is under a month old with no driver issues or hardware issues, so it can't be that either.
What on earth am I doing wrong here? Why doesn't Windows (8) (and I hate saying this) have an efficient bluetooth connection service like Mac? connecting my phone to a Mac easier than easy. On windows it's nearly asking me to remove my hair strand by strand.

Thanks in advance.

hi Charles_xiang,

Welcome to the Forums.

Are you getting pairing issues?
 - if you are, can you provide the error

Also, try the following:
1. Enable the bluetooth by pressing the Windows logo key? +C > Change PC Settings > Wireless (left pane) and toggle Bluetooth to ON.
   - when finished, try to clear the paired devices on your phone and pair it again to the PC

2. If you have the Intel Centrino 2230 (Wi-Fi+Bluetooth) combo adapter, navigate to the Control Panel (large icon view) > Programs & Features and uninstall the Intel + WiFi bluetooth software.
   -when done, install the following:
Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 8* (install this first)
    Intel® PROSet/Wireless Bluetooth Software for Windows 8*

-after installing, repeat Step 1 and observe

Let me know your findings.

I have a Dell studio 15 with Windows 7 and Bluetooth. I am trying to install Manhattan 2800 Bluetooth bookshelf speakers. They sometimes play but disconnect intermittently. When Bluetooth disconnects I have to completely shut down and start over. (I haven't been able to fix it with just Restart.)

Here is a clue:
In "devices and Printers" it shows the laptop as a device:
Studio 15 [properties]

Selecting: [Bluetooth L2CAP Interface] -- properties/General
"Device status
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

Selecting: [Bluetooth Hands free audio] -- properties
Driver= Broadcom Corp, 7/1/2009,6.2.0.9500
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware compatibility Publisher.

The speaker documentation indicates Bluetooth v1.2, class 2 and A2DP protocol support

The Bluetooth icon on the bar at the bottom of the desktop disappears when the connection breaks while looking at properties.

This might be related -- I also have a Kensington Bluetooth trackball mouse that has intermittent problems with connecting at start-up. When the mouse doesn't work at start-up, I can usually make it work by removing its batteries and putting them back.

Advice will be appreciated,
Stan Hilliard

Answer:Intermittant problem with new bluetooth connection

You could consider getting a USB based Bluetooth adapter exclusively for your speakers. One that supports A2DP would be perfect.

Just wondering since I love Cortana and I would love to buy speakers to put around the house to tell my computer from afar to "play music" or to set my alarm by my bed while my computer is in the other room. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with it.

Answer:Does Cortana work with Bluetooth speakers?

For starters, Bluetooth speakers have a limited range, and the farther they are from the source, the more problems you will have with them. Putting them around your house won't work unless your house is very, very small, as in one small room probably.
Also, Cortana uses a Microphone to listen with. Unless the speakers you have also have a microphone, then it won't work, because Cortana won't be able to listen.
You will only be able to hook up to one set of Bluetooth speakers at a time. You cannot get multiple sets of Bluetooth speakers and pair them all at once. Only one sound output can be active at a time, and only one microphone input can be active at a time.
I have a high-end Bluetooth headset that I use. With my laptop in the center of my house, I am able to utilize it from every corner of the house, except one corner of the Kitchen when the refrigerator is between me and the laptop. It interferes with the signal. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to give commands that way for me.
Some day, we'll have houses wired where you can talk to your computer and have your computer respond from anywhere, like being on the USS Enterprise. That day isn't quite here yet, but we're closer than ever.

I have a M900 10NE Tiny with latest BIOS and Drivers which doesn't find Bluetooth devices. Neither with the Windows Bluetooth tool nor with the "Lenovo Bluetooth Lock".The Bluetooth-Device is visible in the device manager. For test purpose I plugged in a old Bluetooth dongle which work without problems. Can anybody give me some hints? Is it possible that's a hardware problem, BIOS settings? Environment:M900 10NE TinyWindows 10 Pro 64bitBluetooth Driver:- Date: 29.9.2016- Version: 19.11.1639.649

Answer:[Solved] M900 Bluetooth connection problem

I really don't know why and how I came to this solution but it worked. When you open the case you can see on the front left side the wires for Bluetooth and Wifi. On my M900 the two wires for Main and Aux where connected in the wrong order. After inverting the order of the two cables, Wifi and Bluetooth worked without problems. In the picture you can see the correct wiring.

I have recently purchased a mobile phone sharp GX15. I have succesfully transfered all my contacts and some photos from my T3 (OS5.2.1) via bluetooth to the phone a couple of weeks ago. Now, when I try to send a photo or contact to the same phone it finds the phone, I tick it and send - the message "Connecting to...." appears and that's as far as it gets. Nothing else happens. I have tried it with other bluetooth phones. The same happens. I can still send photos from the phone to the palm without a problem. Can anyone help please. I am new to this sort of thing (using a forum), please be "gentle" with me. Thanks a lot Martina

I'm using USB 1.0 and the dongle is supposed to work with 98 and USB 1.0.Bluesoleil window keeps showing error message- "Please insert a bluetooth device", and when I search for a device on my Motorola V550 it keeps coming up with "no devices found".Anyone know what I need to do or a driver I need to download to get it to work? Hi I have connected the microsoft wedge mouse and a bluetooth headset to my yoga. I am having the following problems 1, Mouse - at certain times the mouse icon start flashing and moving around haphazardly - as i move the mouse the mouse icon moves very irregularly as if there is interferance between transmission of laptop and mouse - this last for a few seconds and then returns back to normal2, Bluetooth audio - whilst playing a video on youtube the mouse cuts for half to 1 sec at various points. This does not happen with laptop speakers. I tried uninstalling the bluetooth drivers as it was suggested, yet this did not solve the issue. Hope this issue can be solved Ken

Answer:Lenovo Yoga Bluetooth connection problem

I started having a similar issue when I installed the latest Wifi/BT driver.  Even after I rolled back to the older driver, something had changed. I no longer am able to use my BT Creative D100 speakers as it causes my BT mouse to act up (similar symptoms you are having; but my mouse never stabilized). In addition, my USB3 Ethernet adapter no longer automatically switches back to Wifi when I unplug it (I have to manually reconnect to my wireless router). I very much regret installing the new drivers.  Before that, my Yoga 13 was very solid/stable.

Hello,
I recently connected my Lumia 925 to a bluetooth receiver in my car. The Cortana voice assistant works fine there. However, when I am not connected to the BT device (and have BT disabled or even enabled but disconnected), Cortana does not respond to voice commands. It "listens" for a few seconds, but acts as if it can't hear anything, then just exits.
Any advice? This is on the latest Cyan update on AT&T network.
Thanks for any tips!

Answer:Why does my Cortana voice only work on Bluetooth devices?

Have you done a power off, power on? This should reset the input source. You can also try hooking up a mic into the 1/8th headphone jack, then removing.

how to use windows cortana cell phone app with vw radio via bluetooth

Answer:How do I use Windows Cortana cell phone app with vw radio via Bluetooth?

First, you may have to have "Use an alternate Bluetooth audio connection for speech" checked under Bluetooth -> Advanced... My VW's radio worked better with it checked, your results may vary.
To use Cortana, once connected to your car's stereo, hit the call button in your car, then say, "Call Cortana"... once the phone call is in process, you can say the same things you would as if you had just held the search button on your phone.... "send text to xxx", "shuffle music", etc...http://www.windowscentral.com/how-to...-car-bluetooth

Hey,
is it possible to use a Bluetooth Headset with Cortana on a Windows 10 PC without pressing the button with that you normally answering a call?
It should behave like an "always on" microphone, so that I can use the keyword "Hey Cortana" to activate Cortana.
I don't want to always press the button to talk to Cortana.

Answer:Is it possible you use Cortana with a Bluetooth Headset without pressing the button on Windows 10?

It could be possible. I really love the concept though. I want to have this for windows phones as well. I hope to see bluetooth headsets with dedicated cortana buttons in the future.

Hi Satellite users,

I recently had a problem getting my Toshiba Satellite P50t-B running Windows 10 to detect (and hence connect) to my Sony MDR-XB50BS Bluetooth Headphones. The symptom of the problem was that the "MDR-XB50BS" device didn't appear in the list of available devices on the Windows Activity Centre "Connect" screen, nor in the Windows Settings -> Devices -> Bluetooth and other devices -> Add a device screen. Since the device never appeared, I couldn't connect to it.

The solution to the problem turned out to be upgrading my Toshiba Satellite BIOS from version 1.10 to BIOS version 1:50 available on the Drivers & Updates tab of the Toshiba Satellite Support site. The release notes mention a Bluetooth issue being corrected in version 1.40 and while I can't say for certain that this is the same issue I encountered, updating the BIOS was the last thing that I tried before the problem went away, and it's reasonable to expect that a relatively new technology like Bluetooth might have had early implementation bugs.

The other point to note is that if you've already paired the headphones with another device, like I had with my iPhone, then you have to hold the power button down for 7 seconds at power on in order to enter Bluetooth pairing mode first time you try to connect it to the Satellite.

I hope this helps someone someday!

Cheers,
Graham

I signed up for Pipex B/band. Received notification that activation would be on 26th aug and since then have tried to install Speed Touch 330 modem supplied by Pipex. Cannot achieve 2 steady green lights. During boot-up they are both steady, but after icons load on desktop and start bar begins to load the ADSL light starts to flash and continues that way no matter how long I wait. I've run DrSpeedTouch and that indicates a fault with the ISP - presumably Pipex(tho I've stil got a Freeserve account). I've uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch twice, but with the same result each time. I have a filter on each of my tel extensions and all is working fine, except B/band. Advice, please.

Answer:problems setting up B/band connection

Don't live in Devon do you. I was enabled on the same day as you - recieved my modem from Pipex on the 28th, the day after they took £23 from my bank account. Duly installed my modem as per the idiots guide but could not connect. Bank holiday weekend so I rang them on Tuesday to be told to uninstall my modem change the filters around and it would be guaranteed to work. Done that still the same. Rang them again to be told that BT were split testing the line so I would not be able to connect. Late Tuesday it began working as it has ever since. Sorry can't help anymore I am as new to this as you are. By the way I still have a Freeserve account also. If you can afford the phone bill and the 15 minute wait for a reply ring Pipex help the phone number is on the paperwork that came with the idiots guide.

Hi, please can you help me?I recently installed xp on a brand new h.drive for a friend of mine. To test that it connected to the internet ok i used my o2 broadband cd and plugged in the ethernet cable and it worked fantastic!!Now, my friend has Ornage broadband and a livebox so i thought everything would be ok...but now he says 2 things are happening:1, halfway through the installation (using the Orange cd) he says that a window comes up saying 'No cd inserted' or something similar.2, when he does manage to get past that stage and onto 'Stage 4 out of 5' he claims that the installation programme asks him to 'plug the cable from the modem to the usb port' of the pc and when he does the installation just doesn't carry on! Whatim having a problem understanding is that it is asking him to plug in a usb cable!! Surely it should be an ethernet cable running from the livebox to the pc and not a usb cable??Please can anyone help me out with this??

Hello, I just got my E560 on 9/27/16. It has windows 7, 64 pro installed. I plugged in the battery and waited an hour or so before turning the system on. Everything booted ok and I entered my hidden router for my wifi. Unfortuanly, it would not connect. I finally dug out an old ethernet cable to hook up and test the system and download some software. I then unhid my router and still was not able to find it. Everyones router in the neigborhood showed up but mine. I call tech support but they claimed that it was my routers software. I have 4 other devices working just fine on the wifi and I even set my printer up for wifi while the router was hidden with no problem. I checked the Lenovo site for updates but the system said everything was up to date. I went to the Intel site and downloaded their current driver for this card. The laptop finally noticed the router while it was unhidden and I again hid the router and rebooted my Laptop. This cured the problem. However, I was displeased with Customer service they tried to tell me it was a problem with my router and not the system and all my drivers shipped from the factory were up to date. I hope this will help anyone who has a similar problem.

Bluetooth can be on and with no devices connected via Bluetooth Cortana works no problem. But as soon as you connect a device Cortana will do nothing, either by voice or by typing. You do get the typing box and if you press the mic symbol you get a message saying "listening" but nothing happens. The phone has a build date of 7/2/14 and was bought 9/27/14. Has latest OS. I'm assuming Cortana should work with or without a Bluetooth device connected. This problem is happening in my house. Have not checked to see if problem is also occuring in my car. Morning all, my mother in law is having some b'band problems, and I've been assigned the duty of sorting it out! They have a 3com 11g Wireless Firewall Router (3CRWE754672-a) which is not hardwired to ANY of their machines (yeah, I know). Each computer has a 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (Netgear Model WG121, click here). I've ensured each unit has the latest firmware, however it seems that although she can check her email after turning the machine on, if she leaves the PC inactive for a while, when she comes to check for mail again, she gets some POP3 error... and although the network lights and icons display connectivity, it just doesn't work.Any ideas as to what could be causing this? The other PC accessing the router wirelessly has no issues. All PC's are running XP Home.

A couple of weeks ago the XP machine attempted to download SP3 for XP via Windows automatic update-it failed to install and since then have not been able to access the Internet. Have been on to Orange tech support at some length on several occasions now. On the first, after trying everything he could thing of the technician suggested it must be a browser problem. Obtained new copy of IE 7 from MS and uninstalled old version and reinstalled. No change. The thing is the LAN shows connected in the tray at 100 Mbps but when trying to open IE or Firefox unable to access any web pages. Any suggestions gratefully received. This may sound like a silly question, but as our exchange has just been ADSL enabled, I've never had many dealings with BB. My BB package, (modem etc.), is being dispatched by Tiscali, my line has been enabled. What I would like to know is: At the moment I'm connecting via dialup and as I'm about 15 feet away from the telephone socket, I use an ordinary telephone extension cable to enable me to connect to the dialup modem in my computer. The RJ11 cable that connects the BBmodem to the computer, I suspect, will be too short to reach the telephone socket. Can I connect the RJ11 data cable to the telephone socket via the ordinary extension cable I'm using at the moment?

I have a cable broadband connection, with a very large band width (8 MB). This week end (since Friday afternoon), I have been suffering lots of drop outs to my connection, when listening to radio streaming (re-buffering), When this happens the CPU usage goes up from its normal 1-4% to about 50% and the HD is working overtime. Also since it started, its become impossible to run more than one internet program/connection at a time without the connection dropping altogether, yesterday it got so slow to connect that I just gave up and switched off altogether. My PC is completely clean, and the only thing running in the background are the start up programs I have had running for months now without problem. Before I get onto the cable company tomorrow and complain, could this be anything else except a problem at their end?XP home, Browser Fire Fox.

I have the same problem. I have an HP Pavilion 17Z-g000 CTO Touch running Windows 10 Pro with Intel dual-band wireless AC 3165.  The wireless connection continues to randomly drop internet connection.
When I first bought the computer it would crash Win 10 with a blue screen.  After several driver updates, it now just loses connection to the internet.  Clicking on the wireless icon, the network shows it as connected to my wireless router, but with no internet access.  After a while, wi-fi shows as being off, and can't be turned back on, and finally, wi-fi shows as disconnected with no available connections.  If I try to reboot, or shut down, the computer will hang indefinitely until I manually shut down by holding in the power key.
When I turn the computer back on, the wi-fi will show as not connected and will not show any available networks.  To restore the network connection, I have to diable the network controller in device manager, restart the computer, and re-enable the network controller.  This problem occurs both after waking from sleep and after a powerup.  The time it takes for the problem to arise can vary from a  few minutes, to a few hours after logging in.
I have tried the latest drvier from HP, 18.30.0.9, and also the latest from Intel 18.40.0.9, but the problem still persists.  HP support says this is a software problem, and since my computer is more than 90 days old, I will have to pay for support.  I told ... Read more

Hello everyone, I definitely need some help here.

I have been using my WGA600N Linksys Gaming Adapter to connect my Xbox 360 S to my wireless router two floors above for years now. The main reason I bought it was to give the 360 access to the 5 GHz frequency on my dual-band routers, which I have heard (and experienced) is better for wireless gaming than a 2.4 frequency.

However, after switching routers from the old Linksys E3000 to the new EA4500, I can no longer access the 5 GHz connection through this adapter, or on the Xbox at all it seems. I have tried nearly everything I can think of that worked in the past (which seems to be anything except the lousy setup CD), mainly connecting the WGA600n to my laptop with an ethernet and accessing its setup utility using a static IP address (I hope I said that correctly). For example:
setting the 5 and 2.4 Ghz frequencies to either the same or different SSIDs
setting the password to these frequencies to matching and non-matching passcodes
changing the visibility of the 5GHz network from non-broadcasting to a broadcasting signal
setting the adapter to search for 5GHz only, not mixed 2.4/5
Those are the most obvious that I can think of, but there are probably more in the hours I have wasted on this. The strange thing is...
the adapter can connect to the 2.4 frequency, not the 5.

How do I know this? When trying to connect to a 'mixed' signal, the adapter constantly searches for channels (as far as I can tell). When connect... Read more

Hi all,
I have a Virgin Media Super Hub with a 60mpbs connection in my study on the first floor. The hub is connected to my NAS and my laptop, both wired. Wireless is disabled on the VM Super Hub, but it is not running in modem mode since I need access to the extra LAN ports.

This router acts as my hub for all the devices in the house (approx 10 devices in all). I use only the TP-Link as the wireless router since its performance far exceeds that of the Super Hub.
Unfortunately, none of the routers are dual-band. Now that I have a couple of dual-band capable devices, if I enable 5Ghz on the VM Super Hub and retain the 2.4Ghz on the TP-link, will I get the benefits of dual band? If not, what would I need to configure in order to achieve that? Do they need to have the same SSID?
Many thanks.
DSG

Hi there!

So about 2 months ago, I purchased the AC53 when I moved in to a house share.
We have Virgin Media SuperHub that does both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
When I installed it, it worked fine and connected excellently to the 5G band, a few days ago however the 5G connection disappeared off my list and now it always connects me to the 2.4ghz band.

Tried resetting my SuperHub and re-installing the drivers and software utility for the AC53 but alas it doesn't show. My phone however can find and connect to the 5G band.

I'm a bit confused as where to go from here!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:ASUS USB-AC53 Dual Band - Can't detect 5Ghz band

After re-installing you can't connect at all or just only connect to 2.4?

Can you run ipconfig /all and post back the results.
Click Start, in the search box type cmd, under programs right click on cmd and select "Run as Administrator".
In the command prompt window type ipconfig /all and press enter.
Next right click within the command prompt and select "Select All" press enter.
Paste the results back in this thread.

Is it not possible to upgrade to dual-band AC wireless because of the BIOS limitations? If I buy a Thinkpad X240 with single band wireless, am I stuck with that forever, unless Lenovo itself starts selling the dual-band card?

Answer:not possible to upgrade to Dual-band wireless if you buy single band?

Why don't you order x240 with the wlan card you need?If you'll decide to add it later purchase the card yourself:FRU 04X6007 - Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11ac+BT4.0 M.2 Card.Note the card should be WITH Lenovo p/n (FRU) you're seeing above.

My Billion BiPAC 7800VDOX Dual Band Wireless VoIP ADSL2+ Router has two bands:  2.4GHz and 5GHz.  and is wirelessly connected to my laptop OMEN by HP Laptop PC  17-w007tx.  It always shows as connected via 5GHz band only.  My laptop also shows 5GHz band only in the list of available networks;  2.4GH does not show up in the list of available networks.  It is not so in my other laptop which is also connected to the same router and that laptop shows both the bands in the list of available networks.  Thus, I can choose to connect to any of the two bands as per my choice. I have tested the router and it is working perfectly; there is nothing wrong with it.I wonder what can possibly be wrong in my OMEN laptop that it does not show both the bands which it should. At times, when I click to open the list of available networks, 2.4GHz may appear momentarily only and then disappears; thus I can not choose it for connection. I would appreciate any help to resolve this issue so that my OMEN laptop shows both the bands in the list of available networks so as to choose either one for connection.

N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR3400.

I am trying to get a signal out in my garage at the opposite end of my router location. I am getting 1 bar and "poor" signal. I downloaded inSSIDer to analyse my signal and I notice that my "Wireless Network (5GHz a/n)" is not broadcasting anything. The checkbox for "Enable SSID Broadcast" is checked.

I have very limited knowledge of this stuff but it seems to me that if it is a dual band that I should be seeing 2 different signals, right?

All I see is this: Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n)

I have attached screenshot of my settings

Can someone help me out with this? Thanks, Joe

I have a dual band (2.4 and 5 Mhz) comcast modem/router. My desktop computer, iPad an iPhone and two firesticks, all recognize the two bands and are on the 5 mHz band at all locations in the house. However, my laptop, an HP Pavillion entertainment, only recognizes the 2.4 band...the 5 band doesn't show up when selecting newtrok. How do I get it to to be on board and recognized the 5 band. Even when placed near the router, it still doesn't recognize the higher band,

Answer:Dual band router, one band not recognized? by laptop??

Check your specs. If your radio is only 2.4 then no way. Get adapter number and google or post.

Ken
Edit: Clarification.... if your radio only supports 2.4 you could upgrade radio so technically there is a way.

Hi,

I really had not this 'Bluetooth connection' before.
But, I really don't know that pairing my Nokia Bluetooth with my HP Laptop Bluetooth would add this Bluetooth connection or NOT.
I really guess this Bluetooth Connection was listed there when I connected my Lapotp Bluetooh with Nokia Bluetooth.
Thus, I will really not have any problems if I deleted it. But I am asking you what benefit of that Bluetooth Connection.
This is below was not here:

Finally Could please let me know how to use this Bluetooth Connection.(How to benefit from it)? I really use an ADSL Internet subscription, and not Dial-up connection. Also, I am connected wirelessly to a Modem-Router. Thus, what password and username should I type in the fields in the above screen shot?

Answer:'Bluetooth connection' is shown in my Network Connection suddnly.

Pairing a mobile phone will create such an entry and there's nothing to worry about. I don't think you can use it to go online since as you said you are using ADSL and if you want to go online via your modem with your phone just use the wifi connection

I have a BT Voyager 2110 Wireless ADSL Router connected to my PC and want to add a wireless USB wireless adapter to my laptop. OS on both is XP, is there a preferred type of USB adapter I should buy. I have looked at Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adopter WN111 and I also see that there is a Dual-Band Adopter that give a wider band coverage, which would be best and compatible for myBT Voyager Router etc. I would appreciate some advise before I buy.

Answer:Wireless-N Dual-Band Vs Single Band

you would be needing a wireless n router to see any improvement in coverage and the like.and even then apparently some wireless n routers work better with some adapters than others or so the manufacturers would have you believe.

Is it odd that, according to InSSIDer, the 2.g Ghz band signal is stronger (-45) than that of the 5Ghz band (-61)? My router is a Netgear WNDR4500. Just wondering. Thanks.

Arthur

Answer:2.g Ghz band signal stronger than 5Ghz band

It really depends on where your wireless router is compared to your computer.

5 GHz signals are effected more by walls, distance, etc. than 2.4 GHz.

I'm troubleshooting a WiFi condition on an HP Envy laptop where the 2.4GHz band has extremely high ping rate and the 5GHz band does not.

Using Google's 8.8.8.8 DNS server as a benchmark
2.4 average typical time 2800-3000ms w/ packet loss
5.0 average typical time 28-36ms

-Signal strength indicator for both bands show full bars.
-Drivers cleared and reinstalled.
-Other devices are not having problems on 2.4GHz band.
-Windows 10 fully updated.
-No other wireless signals in range.
-No typical sources of interference.

At this point I'm starting to wonder if there might be a hardware issue.

Has anyone ever confirmed one band of a dual-band WiFi card going bad?

Thanks HF.

Answer:Can 1 band of a dual-band WiFi card go bad?

Yes, it's possible.

Little bit of back story.....
So I have had a Linksys WRT54G v6 running my wireless network flawlessly for the last 5-6yrs. After we moved into our new house about a year and a half ago it began to show its age and the "dirty" power in the house began to take its toll on the poor router. After brown-outs, breaker pops, etc. it would increasingly take the router longer and longer to come back up. Well a couple of weeks ago we had a power outage from a downed transformer in our neighborhood that ended up wiping it out... I tried everything I could think of to get it to work but it seems that the board is fried on it.

We needed wireless within the house for my wife to be able to work (she uses a new Macbook Pro) so, against my better judgement, we impulse purchased something late at night from Target. We picked up a new Cisco-Linksys E2000, which I have to say was very similar and easy to setup just like my WRT54G. I picked it up because I mistakenly thought it was a "simultaneous" dual band instead a "single" dual-band router.

Anyways, after all of this I have been doing some research on different routers (originally wanted to pick up a WNDR3700 but no one sells them around here) and it has really sparked the Dual-Band v. Single-Band debate within my mind. While the E2000 is a good router it is just...meh. Seems like the range is actually less since I used to be able to get a full signal out in my street and now I can't even get on in my gar... Read more

Answer:Single-Band v. Dual-Band.....

My suggestion would be to try increasing the power output of the antenna on the E2000 by using DD-WRT. More info here http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index. It's a great opensource firmware replacement to almost all wireless gateways out there. I have a WRT54G v4, installed DD-WRT and increased the power output from the default 75mw to 150mw(225max) and was able to cover all of my house. There's also a lot of other features included with DD-WRT which would also allow you to setup multiple VLAN,s and SSID's on different channels. If you're still having coverage issues after this then I would pick up the E3000 which support simultaneous dual band and from the looks of it is only $50 more on newegg

Note: Be careful with DD-WRT, read up on it first - go through the forums and understand every aspect of the installation process before going forward with the firmware installation. Its very easy to install but I would say ts also very easy to brick your gateway if miss a beat.
