ThinkPad Yoga 14 (ThinkPad Yoga 460) Scaling

Question: ThinkPad Yoga 14 (ThinkPad Yoga 460) Scaling

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. Every time I wake my Yoga from a long sleep (more than half an hour) skaling in metro screen resets to 100%. I have to close the lid putting my laptop to sleep and then wake it up again for scaling to come back to normal. There's no difference whether I set text and element size set to "125%" for all displays or to "Normal". I tried both Lenovo's and Intel latest display drivers - no difference.A similar problem is mentioned for Asus's notebooks and Windows 8.1, partial solution is to change settings from "InstantOn" to "Power Save" in power management utility. Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

Had the same issue - a BIOS update just release about a week ago fixed it for me.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hi, I am new to this site and wondering if I can get some advice. I just purchased the 20DM009Gus (thinkpad yoga 14) from this site when it was on sale the other day, however I was just given an offer for the 20DK0023us (thinkpad yoga 12) which was the size I originally wanted, for the same price. I know each have their pros and cons, but I am wondering if anyone has first hand advice with either or both devices to help me decide which I really should choose? Thanks!

Answer:A Decision Between Thinkpad Yoga 12 and Thinkpad Yoga 14, help?!

Hi chiakri.

I have a TPY 14 (20DM008UUS) and I'm happy with this model. I didn't not compare it to the TPY 12, but mine is working fine and have no issues. It didn't came with a pen, but it supports "Active pen", so I bought a Thinkpad Pen Pro and it worked fine.

I prefer to stick with the 14" screen but that is more about personal prefence. Maybe if you like to use it very much on tablet mode with a pen, possible the 12" will be more confortable to hold as a book.. but I'm just guessing.

Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I'm always on social media, watching some show, listening to music, doing an essay, taking notes, updating some website, or emailing some person on campus. Of course, my old laptop broke. It was a Dell Inspiron. Now, I have a campus job and have been saving money(so money is not factor necessarily). After researching my options, I've narrowed my choices down to the three previously listed laptops. I just want to know which do you guys suggest and why?

Answer:Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

By looking at your requirement, you prefer on-the-go PC that lets you do all that on a decent budget, SP4 is better than SB(if you want lightweight device and decent battery life), Lenovo's are pretty good too. X1 w/o OLED seems to be a better buy in terms of ultraportability and battery life. You could wait for others to chime in.

Disclosure:  I received these laptops from Lenovo as part of their advocacy program, so huge thanks to the folks over at Lenovo. I don't receive compensation for my review, and as always, all opinions are my own.

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is first modern ThinkPad that I've ever owned.  I?ve been using Lenovo?s Ideapad lineup for a very long time, and while I?ve used ThinkPads in the past, the X1 Yoga will be my first personal ThinkPad that I own.  So how does it stack up to the Yoga 910?  Let?s find out! I have the i7 UHD model of the Yoga 910 and the i5 FHD model of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga.  I tried out the latest Yoga 920, but I haven?t tried the latest X1 Yoga yet? hopefully, I will!

Hardware & Design
Even though both laptops carry ?yoga? in their name, the hardware behind them is vastly different.  The ThinkPad X1 Yoga has the classic ThinkPad black design, which is made of a carbon-fiber hybrid for the top cover and a magnesium-PPS hybrid for the bottom cover.  The Yoga 910 has a similar design from the Lenovo?s Yoga lineup, with an aluminum build throughout.

The ThinkPad only comes in two colors: classic black and silver; whereas the Yoga has a whole suite of colors to choose from, such as silver, copper, bronze, and even a few exclusive designs, such as the Vibe designs for the Yoga 920 and the Star Wars themed designs for the Yoga 910.

I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated!

I installed Windows 8.1 pro due to the need of domain, I also downloaded and installed all Lenovo software as well as drivers. I am also using Classic Shell to get a "normal" start menu. Issue 1: Keyboard disables when not in laptop mode, touchpad is allways enabled. How do I disable touchpad in tent, stand tablet mode? Issue 2: Soft keyboard shows up in Microsoft software, however it does not show up when typing in other software, Firefox, Lightroom etc. Is there a way to make this work? Issue 3: In full resolution Windows scale bad, as several computers now delivers with this high resolution and 4K monitors will be more common, is there a fix from Microsoft to get normal scaling? Ie. menues are very small making it hard to hit the correct button on touchscreen.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro: deactivating pad in yoga modes, soft keyboard in non-microsoft sw, scaling Windows?

I, too, have the soft keyboard issue. If I'm already editing some text and switch modes, the keyboard shows. If I move to tent/tablet mode and try to edit - no keyboard!!! The is an On-Screen Keyboard app but it fills the entire screen. Useless. Surely there is an answer to this problem?

I have read from the forum that in Yoga 2 Pro have some problems in wireless. Did the Lenovo solved this problem or still it is the same? My second question about ThinkPad yoga 12.5. is it possible to use Lenovo motion technology at this Ultrabook? Or this technology only available in ideapad-s ?

Just curious, why is the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga I7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, FHD about $1,000 more than the similarly equipped commercial Lenovo 910?

Is it the ThinkPad brand name? The eraser nubbin? The 2 combined?

Just curious.

I've got a friend who needs a new laptop. She likes the touch/fold aspect of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Yoga. Do you all think she would be happy with the commercial Yoga 910?

Any real reason to get the new plain FHD ThinkPad X1 Yoga instead of the similarly equipped commercial Yoga available at Best Buy besides spending an extra $1000 for the ThinkPad brand name?

I've owned 6 various ThinkPads since 2011 FWIW. I get it, they're cream of the crop. But I kinda got sticker shock when I just priced out a plain FHD (and we need nothing more) X1 Yoga. About  $2,800, wow!

Opinions and advice -- no spam please (thank you!) -- welcome.

Best to everyone...

Answer:Why is the ThinkPad X1 Yoga $1,000 more than a similar Yoga 910?

@Jelks, The biggest difference I see between the X1 Yoga (2nd) and the Yoga 910 is active pen support which seems to be missing from the 910. You could use a capacitive stylus, but expect fingertip resolution, not pinpoint, and no pressure-sensitivity. Fewer USB ports: no HDMI or MicroSD; no Thunderbolt. No TPM module, if you need to store encrypted creditials, e.g., for BitLocker. Not sure about battery life; they claim up to 9 hours of local video for the 910 vs. up to 15 of MobileMark for the X1. Not an apple-to-apple comparison. You're not going to get the (soon to be patched, at least for now) security hole that is Intel's vPro management tech. You may not get Windows 10 Pro, possibly just Home (but you could always give Microsoft the money to upgrade if you need BitLocker or Remote Access). You're not going to get all the "mil-spec" design and testing etc, but if it's a personal machine, you're probably going to avoid abusing it. As you suggest, the "wave" keyboard -- including the trackpoint "eraser nubbin" -- is definitely going to be more expensive on the ThinkPad than the plain Yoga keyboard. I used two generations of ThinkPads (T61p and W520), but about 3 years ago I switched to a Dell XPS 13. A year or so ago, I ordered a X1 Yoga 1st gen for my wife and she likes it very much, so I am pretty familiar with the design and capabilities. TLDR: I think most people would be happy with the 910 vs. X1 unless they want the active pen. Als... I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 460 - Thinkpad Pen Pro not charging ...

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

HiI am used to T420, 450 laptops, and looking for Yoga with similar easy type keyboard (good key travel, less actuation force) and easy on eyes screen anti-glare/matte.  Looks like they don't make matte displays now. Is the keyboard on X1 yoga and its anti-glare comparable or should I get thinkpad yoga 460 (that is a pound+ heavier). Also how does a anti-glare screen protector compare with display already built with anti-glare. If the X1 yoga anti-glare is not sufficient, should I then add this 3rd party screen? Thanks

So I am in the middle of choosing between Thinkpad Yoga 15 and Yoga 900. From my resarch, somewhat they serve different purpose with pro and cons. And I have a couple questions about them.1. What is your suggestion for Yoga 900 stylus pen? Can I use thinkpad pen? I have seen this youtube video where the thinkpad yoga works with wacom too, and with the right driver, it has the palm rejection. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwQ1GHhYB_Q) Is yoga 900 share the same screen active pressure technology.2. Which docking should I choose for Yoga 900 and Thinkpad Yoga.3. What do you think of running After Effects in Yoga 900 and Thinkpad Yoga 15? How about basic task with 3d application? Thank you

Answer:Yoga 900 vs Thinkpad Yoga 15

Er, the Yoga 900 does NOT support an active pen. The Yoga 900 is from the IdeaPad range of Lenovo. It is NOT a ThinkPad Yoga. It's a nice machine, but if you want support for an active pen, then it's not for you at this point in time.

Hello community! As no sales rep at my local reseller's couldn't clearly answer to me, I lean on you the community in my struggle to find a good replacement for MacBook Pro which I want to now abandon for ethical reasons   I was that close to ordering a Yoga 900 with i7, 16gb and 512. But: sales rep after another stressed the importance of having a designated display card for me to be able to do photoshop + light 3d work (no HD rendering or anything, just modelling). So I started to look around again and as I love the Yoga hinge and the features that follow I'd want to have that instead of XPS for example, that would in a way be a smarter choice. And I found the Thinkpad 15 inch that you can upgrade to have the i7, 16gb and a 512 SSD, and with that you'd get 2gb display ram. Though the trade from HQD to HD is annoying to me, but I could suck it up if in other sense the Thinkpad Yoga and it's 2gb display ram really is that effective for my line of work.  So in short, as a 2D/3D designer, mostly working with Rhino, Google Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop and Office ? which would be the smarter choice: Thinkpad Yoga 15 upgraded to i7-5500U or Yoga 900 13.3 with it's i7-6500U?

Answer:Yoga 900 i7 or Thinkpad 15 Yoga i7

It'd be a better idea to go with the ThinkPad 15 Yoga. Lenovo does have the Yoga 700 that has dedicated graphics card, if you want to look into that as well.

Question: Thinkpad Yoga key

I lost my key "A" as I was writing in Tablet mode. It feel off without any notable force.I already found out that warranty does not include such things. Nevermind I will buy it myself but one week of searching of a simple key, I still couldnt find one. There are shops who offer laptop keys from Lenovo that look quite the same but asking them didnt brought a satisfying answer. One retailer said that I have to replace the whole keyboard for not less than 120? but thats not acceptable for just one lost key. I am missing only the key the rubber part is still there. I tried it with another key and could simply pull it off and put it right in the same play so its not a big thing. Where can I find this key for my Thinkpad Yoga, and if such thing does not exist. Are there and Lenovo models which have the same key size as mine? Thanks in advance.

We just recently received some Thinkpad Yoga's and need some direction on how to complete the WDS process...Here is what we have done so far... 1. Initially we could not boot to the WDS server via PXE boot so we purchased the Lenovo USB Network adapter as this is the only method available for PXE boot. 2. Went into the BIOS and disabled "Secure Boot" and changed Startup to "Both" for UEFI/Legacy Boot Those first two items allowed us to PXE boot and I was able to view the WDS options. I then created the image and sysprepped it. 3. On the WDS server, we then created a new Windows 8 wim to boot to for the image upload. 4. PXE boot and selected this image which then started the wizard that would walk us through uploading the image.  Here is where the problem starts... When I get to the screen that has the checkbox to "upload image to WDS..." and then the field where you enter the server name and press "connect" it fails to connect no matter what I use. I have tried.. Server nameServer name.domainIP addresswack wack server namewack wack name.domainwack wack IP address I read that we may need to inject the Lenovo USB Ethernet adapter drivers into the wim but on our WDS server, in order to do that, we need to use .inf files. I have not found any .inf files for Lenovo adapter (found driver installs, just no .inf versions). So we are almost there but I don't know how to go any further. Can someone point me to where I can... Read more

Question: Thinkpad Yoga 460

Hi, I have 3 problems with my Yoga 460: 1. (this should be easy):Where do I get a backup image for my system from? I did not find any links on the support page. 2. I tried to download the bios update to version 1.18 from the website. If I click on the windows installer file, there is always the message "file not found". If I try to download the iso file (which is indeed working), I receive an error message about wrong format when trying to mount it to a usb drive. 3. This is the most important issue for me at the moment:As soon as I try to update my system with Lenovo Companion software, I always get the message that I would have to upgrade my Lenovo System Interface Driver. If I hit ok to install this app, I get a download link. I tried installing it several times. After having restarted the system, the same error appears again (with the same download link).  I would really appreciate if anyone of you could help me on these topics! Greetings from Germany, Simon

Maybe it can help your 3) point by installing "Lenovo Application Interface Driver for Windows 10".
Download it from here:

Check if after installing it, it will work with Lenovo Companion.

I intend to buy an X1 Yoga (IPS or OLED) for my business and connect it to my two Dell U2417H monitors. Looking at the Dell user guide, I see that you should be able to use one cable from the laptop and daisy chain the two monitors. The Dell user guide states that the PC/laptop graphics card must support "DP1.2 with MST transport". * Does the 1st gen X1 Yoga have DP1.2 with MST transport?* What about the 2nd gen X1 Yoga? Understand the mini DisplayPort has been deleted on the 2nd gen X1 Yoga and left only a HDMI and Thunderbolt connection. How would I achieve this daisy chain connection? Thanks

Hello to everyone on the forums. I recently helped my sister in law install a new samsung ssd in her thinkpad yoga s1.  I used a cloning software called "easetodo backup" which seemed to work quite well.  I cloned from a 125GB drive to a 500GB drive, moved the recovery partition to the very end of the target drive, then extended the system partition.   There's been just one problem.  I tried to make the recovery partition accessible by setting the guid and offset for the new partition location in a file called "reagent.xml" and the recovery partition still doesn't seem to be accessible when I try to run the "create a recovery drive" feature.  Specifically, the "copy the recovery drive from this pc" option is greyed out.  Are there any other pieces of the recovery environment that needs to get set in the reagent.xml file?  I know I've seen a specific blog post on this site that mentions setting the recovery guid and offset, but that really hasn't helped in this case. Has anyone tried and ran into the same issues, or is there anything else worth trying? edit:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaCentre-Desktops-Home-Servers/Windows-8-Recovery-partition-not-recog... This is the blog post with advice I used to try to edit the reagent.xml file. I also seem to recall that when I ran the reagent /info command, it seemed like windows re was disabled and I couldn't renable with the reagent /enable command.

Question: Thinkpad Yoga 14

Just purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and I'm wondering if anyone has installed a SSD and whether installing a SSD would all overall speed to the Yoga 14.  I've installed SSDs in my older Thinkpads and noted significant improvement, but I'm not familiar enough with the Yoga to know for sure if it would be worth it.  Any opinions would be appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 14

I dug a bit on the interwebs and noticed an article at the MobileTechReview that is probably the answer to what you're looking for.   Like you, the authors of that review had a Yoga 14 and wanted to upgrade the SSD.  Comes out to by ~25% difference in PCMark 7 score benchmore. I don't know what kinds of tests actually matter in your case but is probably worth reading.  It compares to a few more laptops, here is a partial list:.  PCMark 7 Benchmark Comparison TableScore 3777- Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 14 (HDD, factory spec) 3733 Score 4603 -Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 14 (upgraded to SSD boot drive)

Hi,I have recently acquired a Yoga12 Model 20DL0036US.It did not come with an active Pen.It is unclear from the website/reviews if I can go and buy a WACOM or similar active pen and use it on this computer screen. Can anybody help (simple yes or no would be great). Many ThanksGS

Answer:Can I add a pen to my Yoga 12 thinkpad?

Is this a used machine? BH Photo has your model number here (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1140676-REG/lenovo_20dl0036us_yoga12_i3_5005u_4_500gb_16_windo...). Look at the bottom right corner of the machine on the first photo. Notice the red circle next to the power button? Where the front and the side of the casing meet? That's the stylus. Check to see if you've got a stylus stuck in there for your machine. Even if you don't, it's possible that the stylus was lost (if you bought the computer used). So see if there is an opening in the casing where the stylus should be. If there is an empty space there, I would think your machine is designed for a stylus. If that's the case, any Wacom penabled stylus should work. These are the standard Wacom styluses that have been used with tablet computers for years. On my TP Yoga 12, I'm using the same stylus I used with my old Thinkpad X61 tablet.

My hinges are quiet  and smooth, but they are tight and sturdy so that the screen is stable in any orientation.  I'm sorry, but without hearing or feeling yourem there is no way for me to say if yours are "normal", but it is common for a tight hinge to make a little noise when it begins a motion.

Hi, according to the HMM, the hdd is not a CRU. On this website you list it as optionally self-servicable though. (Note: The website does not list the base cover as a CRU although it has to be removed to gain access to the HDD). Can you please verify and state if the hdd is a CRU or not? I'd only consider buying a device that covers swapping drives under warranty. regards,  gazpel

Question: Thinkpad Yoga IW

Hello, does Thinkpad Yoga bought in the US have an international warranty? I have been trying to do some research, yet Lenovo support website is total rubbish. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga IW

If you go to the support home page, (click the support box at the top of the forum), and then select Warranty and Services you will find a link to click on named International Warranty Service.  Once selected you can enter the type number of the system, e.g. 20c0, to see a list which countries the system is eligible for IWS (International Warranty Service).  A link to the page can also be found in the forum FAQs.

Answer:Thinkpad S3 Yoga 14 and Thinkpad Pen Pro

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having difficulty.
Per the online info document's statement: Only support models that are shipped with a notification flyer, stating that ?This system supports Active Pen.?, did yours contain such a flyer?

The other suggested method of determining Active Pen support is to contact Support (info below) with your serial number.

Hope this helps a bit.
Regards.

It I my understanding that the Yoga 14 models do not support the Pen. It's frustrating and I disappointing. Return the pen and get a refund. Hopefully we will see a Pen Option.By the way, the reason the Pen doesn't work has to do with the actual display technology used on the current TP14 Yoga. I took a look, and the pen is still limited to the 12" models.Jim

I just bought a Thinkpad Yoga from Best Buy and upon opening, found that the pen pro included does not work. I'm on the most updated version of all the drivers, and the touch screen and multitouch with my hands still work. After taking an multimeter to measure the voltage of the pen, I found that the pen just wasn't charging. I'm a bit hesitant to check the voltage of the charging silo itself but my suspicion is that the pen is dead. Could this be a software problem? Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Should I return to pen and the laptop to bestbuy or just the pen? Or should this issue be brought to Lenovo instead?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Best Buy) - Thinkpad Pro Pen do...

I don't have a 460, but I do have a 260, which is a smaller, but VERY similar machine.  I had the same problem and I believe it is not the pen.  Before you do anything, you need to unplug the machine and disable the internal battery.  You do that by going into the BIOS and under the config tab, look under power.  There will be an option to disable the battery.  When this is selected, the machine will turn off.  The battery is re-enabled the next time you plug it in.  IF THE BATTERY IS NOT DISCONNECTED, YOU WILL CREATE A SHORT AND BLOW A IRREPLACEABLE FUSE ON THE MOTHERBOARD.  Remove the pen and look inside, where you will see 2 contacts.  My guess is that one or both got pushed back into the housing during manufacturing process.  You can take something fine and sharp like a needle and gently free them so they will pop back out.  Once I popped mine out, the pen charged very quickly and I never had another problem with it.

Got Thinkpad Yoga 260 delivered today. Haven't turned it on yet and was checking it out. Lifting it up and slightly shaking produces rattling noice around the right hand side hinge. It's either hinge itself making that sound or inside the laptop around top right corner. Any ideas on what that might be and how to possibly fix it? Should I just consider sending it back to get fixed instead? Thanks. Edit: I suspect it could actually be a right bottom corner of the LCD right over Yoga 260 imprint where the rattle is. There is nothing I can do to fix that. So much for a brand new laptop...

Answer:New Thinkpad Yoga 260 rattle

Looks like it'll need to be replaced instead of repaired. At least I'm not stuck with it. Seems like a QA issue to me.

I've had my Thinkpad Yoga (20CDCTO1WW) for about a month, and for the last week I've been having problems with one of my USB ports.I first noticed something when my mouse that was plugged into it was behaving oddly ( intermittently drifting slowly across the screen with no input) when the mouse was plugged into the other USB port it would work without issue (although I didn't make the connection with the ports, as I thought it was just the mouse). I realised that there was something wrong when I encountered difficulty playing video files (playback would be fine until I either skipped ahead or moved on to the next file, when the program would freeze, this happened with a variety of different player including VLC, Media Player Classic, PotPlayer, and KMPlayer) from a portable USB 3 HDD, I checked the drive performance in Task manager and saw that the read speed wasn't getting over about 7MB/s (and usually hovering below 1 MB/s, with an average response time of around 1025ms.) I tested file transfer by copying large file from it and saw that it became unresponsive when trying to calculate the time required, but when I did the same with the other USB port it calculated it very quickly and copied the file at approx. 60MB/s. I next used a benchmarking program to check it (HD Tune), on the good port it got above a minimum of 60MB/s and on the other the program became unresponsive. In device manager it recognises the portable HDD in both ports and as far as I can tell uses the s... Answer:Thinkpad Yoga USB problem

My problem is that the USB port will read some of my external storage devices but not others.  I have connect the device to other computers and it runs fine.  The other computers are running Windows 7, my thinkpad yoga S1 series is Windows 8.  The USB ports are working fine because it can detect one of my drives.  However, it does not even show the other drive as a connected device when plugged in.   Hopefully there is a simple fix here.  Any ideas?

Hey all, I have a quick question. On most Thinkpads the individual keys on the keyboard are pretty easy to remove and clea; due to the lift and lock feature of the Thinkpad Yoga's keyboard I'm not sure if that is true for it as well. My Enter key is a bit sticky like something is underneath it and I wanted to pop it off and clean up whatever is causing the problem, but I'm not sure if that is something I can do without breaking it.  Are the Thinkpad Yoga 14's keys easily removed and replaced or is that something I had better not mess with?

Hey guys,Is it possible to upgrade the Ram on the thinkpad yoga after you've bought it. I have found recently that 4gb is really not enough. Thx!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga RAM upgrade?

Good day and welcome to the community.

As with many Ultrabook machines, the RAM is soldered to the system board, so there's no way to upgrade it short of swapping in different board. You may want to have a look at your hardware manual for reference: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/s1_yoga_hmm_en_sp40a26742_01.pdf

I recently purchased a ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd (Type 20JD), and it came with a 65W adapter for USB-C (model 4X20M26268), there is also a 45W model through Lenova (4X20M26252), and numerous 45W and 65W slim travel adapters for Yoga models.  My question, can I use any Lenova 45W or 65W brand adapter with a USB-C cable?  I would prefer to use of the 45W or 65W travel adapters that have retractable plug, like the one for Yoga3...is there any risk? thanks!

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd: 45W vs 65W adapter?

I have never seen an adapter cable to go from a yoga 3 power cable to USB-c, but even if there is a physical adapter, I would guess that the answerr is no or I would be afraid to try.  The X1 Yoga gen2 USB-C power adapter can charge a 5V phone or a 20V laptop.  The USB-3 spec allows for multiple voltages and maximum draws.  I doubt any adapter would work.

is TPY 2nd lighter? since it uses broadwell im guessing the power supply or fan would be smaller due to less power consumption and more cooling. is the trackpad better than first gen?how's the battery life comparison. so far i been reading about improvements on these post

Answer:those who owns thinkpad yoga 2nd gen

I just recently received the 2nd gen yoga 12 and had the 1st gen previously.Weight I heard 2nd gen is a few grams lighter.  I can't tell any difference. From other posts on the internet with the broadwell processor it is definitely faster in most cases and I have the i7 5600u.Trackpad opinion?I loved and needed the clickpad thus why I purchases the 2nd gen.  I never liked the buttonless one.It is more of personal preference. Battery life?It is nearly the same but slightly better.  From my real world testing 3 clicks down from max brightness and balance mode with some youtube, movies and occasioncal surfing.  Im getting between 6 - 7 hours of usage.  I think with just internet usage and another click or two down on the brightness I think I can get 7 - 8 hours.  It is not bad, but this is not an all day laptop unfortunately but no other 12 inch laptop comes near this!!! I love it. any other questions, let me know.thanks  G

Hello Lenovo Forum, I read through the manual and the technical specs but couldn't find any information whether the M.2 slot of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 460 ( 20EM000VGE ) supports M.2 NVME.Also I am wondering about the supported Keying. Is it M+B or M or B ?I counted the pins and can only see 4 Pins, while I understood that B has 6 and M only 5. So I am bit confused. Currently I have a M.2 device with A+E Key (Dualband WWAN Card - PCIe x2) preinstalled.(https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-8260-brief.html) [8260NGW - 2230] Any help is appreciated. I press buttons, mash the keyboard but nothing works. Occasionally the Windows button can recover the system, but otherwise I am forced to restart the system.  The only solution I've been able to figure out so far is to set the laptop to go into hibernation mode instead of sleep mode when the lid is closed. At least with this solution you avoid the risk of loosing work. It's the best solution for now.. hopefully this is addressed in a software update. Please help us Lenovo! Let me know if you figure out a solution.

Hello,After purchase my Thinkpad Yoga 260 I've tried to connect with a 3g operator through the side slot (wich costed me an extra) just to discover that my laptop doesn't have a WWAN module. Now I need to know if my laptop as the possibility to add one (wich I hope so because it was one of the main reason why i bought it) anyone knows how to? Anyway it's very hard to me to understand why give me the choice to assembly it with the slot if there's no way to use it.

Hello1)I've been complaining about the fan noise on my thinkpad yoga 15 laptop to the support. First they randomly sent me a new fan and so I replaced it but no improvement. After three calls from support telling me that a guy from IBM will come to my place and look at it but didn't turn up till the 3rd try. When the IBM guy came to my place he told me he will my whole board of my laptop. After everything got replaced we tried it out again but the fan is still annoyingly loud without having anything opend except chrome. We were looking for a tool to manualy set the fanspeed but none of them would work. How does your thinkpad run?2)Is there any way to add support to my thinkpad 20DQ version?Kind regards

Hi I just bought the Thinkpad Yoga 14 and one of the first things I wanted to do is to Install another Windows 8.1 next to the already installed one. So I resized the main partition to half its size... But when I press F12 to enter the BootMenu and I select the Bootable USB with Windows 8.1 on it(the setup of Windows off course), nothing happens. Does this have something to do with Secure Boot or similar? How can I fix it? I usually have a Dualboot System, one for serious work and one I use for free time.. SincerelyNicJak

Hi,

I read many users questions about Pen and Yoga 3 14, but with the 20DM computer. I've got since 1 month a 80JH Yoga 3 14, with an core i7, 8 GB ram, 500Go+16Go SSD, Nvidia 940M 2GB.
I bought the ThinkPad Pen Pro, i thought that i would work but it did not...
I read that i needed a special configuaration as "Active Pen", can I use that kind of pen with my Yoga 3??

Thank you

Hi, I purchased my Thinkpad Yoga in March 2014. It had been working fine until about 2 months ago. It started having issues with the SSD, so I installed a new one. Worked fine until yesterday when it just stopped working. Was in sleep mode and about 30min later I try to turn it on,nothing happens. I plug in the charger, but the ThinkPad light doesn't blink either. I am not sure what exactly the issue is, but should a business class laptop, which is not even 2 years old be experiencing such problems? I contacted the IBM frontoffice (lenovo's techincal support) and they said I could replace the motherboard for around 700 euros. I simply am not willing to do this. I know the laptop isn't in warranty, but the fault was not mine and Lenovo simply cannot expect a product life of 1.5 yrs of a business class line laptop. I am looking to get in touch with someone from lenovo. It is impossible to find an email address.  Thanks!

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga S1 Will not start up

Hi As far as I know the formal way to contact Lenovo is to open a ticket with Lenovo's techincal support. If the machine is out of warranty it is not likely that they are going to replace the board for free.  Which is the exact model number of you machine? Does it not boot at all when you turn it on? Any fan sound? Any beep, error or sound? There are some Thinkpad Yoga machine that has a reset hole/button on the bottom. Does your model has one?   Regards

I wish people would help me sort out, serious ISSUE(S) I?m facing with Lenovo Thinkpad S1 12.5" Touch, i5, 8GB RAM,128GB SSD, FullHD with Stylus laptop. Immediate solution required to these: I?m avid Keyboard user and Context key missed out from this keyboard, makes computing experience really terrible. Every time I type and want to lookup on dictionary I?ve to seek for Right Touch pad click, to do simple Context menu button functionality. Forums suggested to use Ctrl+Shift+F10  keys combo, which includes me to press additional Fn to activate Fn key row. Though with difficulty altogether I press 4 keys simultaneously, I mostly don?t arrive with that menu. As it is Design defect, nothing much can be done, expect assigning a Fn Key+PrtSc combo. Please bring up a Optional BIOS switch option, to use Context menu key on PrtSc Key and redirect its native function to be activated by Fn+PrtSc, as PrtSc key is not as useful as Context key..Thanks for providing Quick function keys, but MOST IMPORTANT ?Sleep?, ?Screen off?, ?Play/pause? are not available. Seriously, why would you prefer to include Volume on sides as well as in Function keys row, which makes it so redundant?Settings, Search, App switcher are mostly useless Functions (F9-F12). I wish Lenovo to Give a custom Function keys retasking BIOS level or OS level software, and render this problem (Not all will be benefited, but serious efficient us... Read more

I something similar to item 5. After upgrade to Windows 10 I noticed a major bug in touchpad driver. If you turn on TPY (from complete shutdown or sleep/hibernation), while leptop is tilted to one side, then the touchpad works in right angle to the regular finger movements. The incorrect movement of pointer will not resolve unless you turn on TPY again in a complete horizontal setting. The bug is only seen in Windows 10 and I did not have this bug in Windows 8.1. I'm using the latest driver: Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver Version 19.0.17. 2

HOLA.

I recently purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 12.5" convertible 2-in-1 laptop (20CD00B1US), and I have a question regarding the resolution.  The specifications indicate a 1920 x 1080 display, which is verified in the Control Panel.  There are some applications and programs that just do not seem crisp or clear, however, and I am confused as to why this might be.  For instance, when I check the display in Google Chrome, all of the analyzers indicate 1280 x 720.  Could this be a settings/driver issue that prevents all applications from acheiving the best display (i.e. a Windows 8.1 problem)?  Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi I wonder if anyone can help? We want to mass deploy ciustom image to Yoga s1 with SCCM 2012 but are aving massive issues with PXE boot. Have read a few forums and they keep pointing towards USB boot or the need to buy a Lenovo USB Dongle. This would mean we have to buy a dongel for each one because of the need to place a MAC address in SCCM. Can anyone suggest another way? Thanks very much

Answer:PXE boot to Thinkpad YOGA S1

What version of SCCM 2012 are you using?  I have read that SP1 changed how it identifies devices and that it no longer relies on the MAC address.  Otherwise, you have to delete the device after each deployment in order to reuse the same dongle.
