Preferred Solution: I'm trying to share my cellular network connection

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I want my wii to connect to the internet, but I need to share the internet and I have a dongle (mobile broadband) is there any way to connect it? If so please share!

Answer:How to share network connection with wii?

You'll be plugging your wii into the computer for this.

1. Plug in your console (WII, Xbox 360, PS3) and allow it to acquiring ip address.
2. click on the Windows button and type "network and sharing center" and enter
3. on the left right under manage wireless networks, should say change adapter settings click that
4. right click local area connection and disable it.
5. right click local area connection and click properties.
6. there should be a tab that says sharing go to that tab.
7. there is a box that says allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection. uncheck it if it is checked.
8.hit ok then right click local area connection and enable it.
9 now select both your wireless network connection and the local area connection and right click and it should have the option to bridge connections. when you click bridge it will do its thing and should work when its done.

In the room where my PC is, I also have my xbox. I do not have a wireless adaptor (yet) for my 360 and the cat cable coming into the room is just long enough to reach the pc. So if I want to go on live, I have to move the xbox near the cable and pull the cable from the back of the pc (which sucks if I need it while on live).

The motherboard that I have has 2 onboard NICs, is it possible to use one for an incoming network connection/to the router and use the other to connect my xbox to provide Internet access to it? How would one go about dong this? Thanks

Answer:Is it possible to share my pc's network connection w/ my 360?

Might be better to just pickup a cheap switch, and hook the PC and xbox up to it?

We have 6 PCs running Windows XP -- all networked and have specific shared folders that we can all connect to. Also have a Linksys NAS in our network that has folders shared as \\SERVER\public. All has been working fine for two years. Suddenly, 1 user was connected from his laptop to a PowerPoint document in a shared folder on \\SERVER\public. He closed the document. When he went to open this document again 15 minutes later, his laptop couldn't see the \\SERVER\public anymore.

It has disappeared from his Network Places, and we can't find a way to reconnect this laptop to this \\SERVER\public. The laptop sees all the other network connections, and all the other PCs on the network can still connect to the \\SERVER\public.

Can anyone help us figure out what the problem is and how to reconnect?

My father now works for the US Census and they have hand held devices they must carry around with GPS and the whole works. At the end of the day he's expected to hook this device to a phone line and transmit his time card data and his work for the day. The problem is that we don't have a phone connection at the house. We have DSL and this computer has a modem but is there a way to share an internet connection with a modem?? This job may be a temp job for him so spending close to $100 on a setup fee and 30 dollars a month is redicilus. Does anyone see a way around this???

Thank You!!!

How to enable and set a cellular connection as "metered" in windows 10. The option is inactive.

Answer:Set as Metered Connection option inactive for Cellular connection. How do I enable it?

Any Wi-Fi connection can be set as metered. If you have connected your cellular device via USB or Ethernet, the option will not be available to set it as metered.
If you are sharing your cellular connection over Wi-Fi, then the option should be available.

My wife and I both have the same laptop. (my profile has the specs)
We have to use our cell phones as hot spots for our internet. We each connect through our own phone.
That part is fine.
What we want to be able to do is share a file or send a note (such as a URL) without having to do it through
email. We used to be able to use a program called ATnotes when we had cable internet. We were able to
connect through our home network. The computers, through the router, to the modem. Because we each connect using our own phone as a hot spot we are not networked.
The two computers are side by side. So a direct connection is fine. Also i don't want to have to disconnect from
the phone to connect to another shared network just to send a quick note (ex: a really long URL) then switch beck to the hotspot.
Is this possible?
My computer to my phone and to her laptop
Her computer to her phone and to my lap top. All at the same time.
If any of this is not clear please let me know.
Thanks for any help.

Answer:Want to network laptops BUT not share internet connection.

Are you tethering to your respective phones via USB cable or wireless ?? If USB, then you should be able to set up an adhoc wireless network between the two computers. There's also a wired option since they are physically close to one another. I haven't used direct connection in years and, frankly, I don't know if it's even supported or not.

I have a HP deskjet 5550 printer connected to a XP pro (32 bit), it is shared. I have no problem using this shared printer either from the local XP machine or another XP machine. I had no problem using the share when I have Vista Ultimate 32 bit installed. However the Vista Ultimate 64 bit gives an error stating the server does not have the correct drivers, and requests that I supply and inf file.

Searching the HP web site they state the vista already has the drivers. I connect direct using a USB cable and can print without issue. Even after that no luck connecting via a share.

Answer:HP deskjet OK direct connection by not via network share

Managed to solve my problem. The solution was to download the XP x64 driver from the HP web site, extract the files using win-rar (I assume winzip will work as well). When connecting to the shared printer and it asks for the inf file, just use the XP one. All is good.

Right simple set up..2 computers in the house, one currently with broadband, hence now!
I want both of them to be connected to broadband and I know that Ill obviously have to upgrade my service with my provider.
This will require a router, but one thing, will I need to network the computers. I dont want to do this at all, Id prefer having 2 completely separate pcs like it is now.
Thanks for any help!

Answer:To share an internet connection, do I have to network the computers?

You can either upgrade your connection e.g. get a separate connection from your ISP or network your computers. No need to do both.

Hi,

Setting up a wireless network at my boyfriend's. He has 2 PCs both running XP Home SP2 and has a D-Link DSL-G624T router with a USB dongle in the 2nd PC.

Network itself is set up fine, the two computers can see each other and share files. The only problem is that I can't share the internet connection.

I went into Network Connections on the PC that's plugged into the router and opened up the Local Area Connection properties, looked on the Advanced tab, and the Intenet Connection Sharing bit is missing! How on earth do I share the connection without it?

Sorry for being clueless, but I really need some advice.

Hope I've provided enough info.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi folks,

I'm tearing my hair out over my wife's new Win7 Home Premium 64bit Compaq laptop. (The first Win7 machine to become a regular part of the home lan.) It's about a week old and has been working fine with the home network since the 1st night when I set it all up, until this afternoon...

There is a Maxtor NAS drive on the network which has 2 "public" shares, plus one "private" share for each member of the family. The new laptop had one of the public shares, and my wife's private share both mapped to drives y: and z: respectively to reconnect at logon.

Tonight, access to the private share was denied... I got called in to diagnose, and found that the OS is claiming that the share is already connected using a different username/password combo - which needs to be disconnected before the share can be accessed. The thing is, it ISN'T!!

I foolishly deleted the mapping to recreate it, but it won't recreate, claiming the same conflicting connection. No other PC on the lan is accessing the share. No connection to the share exists on the laptop - either in the gui, or as indicated by "net use" command in the terminal window - which shows the public share connected on y: , and nothing else at all.

*I've accessed the administration interface on the Maxtor drive from another PC and confirmed everything is in order.
*All the other shares can be accessed normally from the pc's of their respective owners.
*The pu... Read more

Answer:Solved: Phantom Network share blocking connection...

I've dug into the Registry as well and found the Network connections area there. There's a listing for the y: mapping to the public share, but nothing for a z: drive, or any other network connection.

What can make Win7 suddenly start telling lies about it's network connections? Please....

Hi,

I have a laptop (with win 7 home premium) connected wirelessly to the router. I have a server connected (wired) with some shared folders on it.

Now, when I try to open the networkshare on my laptop (when I'm connected wireless to the network), it won't work 3/4 of the times I try. But to let it work, I just do a ping to the IP of the server and when I try again the networkshare will open. Very strange.

When I'm connected to the network with a wired connection, the networkshare will always open up directly.

Is something wrong with my wireless connection? I have an excellent signal and installed the latest drivers for the network card.

My network is setup as followed:

Wireless router -> switch (downstairs) -> switch (upstairs)
My laptop is wirelessly connected to the router. The server is connected to the switch that's upstairs.

Hope I explained it well.

Thanks,
Mathew

I have at home an internet broadband connection PPPoE and two computers a desktop one further called PC and a notebook one further called laptop
I've made an ad-hoc wireless network between them
I've tried to share the internet connection through ICS, in order to have internet on laptop too, but from unknown reasons to me it doesn't work

The OS on PC is Windows XP Prof SP2 and on the laptop Windows Vista Ultimate
I've also set the ip for the wireless connection on the PC to 192.168.0.1, mask 255.255.255.0 and on the laptop ip 192.168.0.2 mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway and preferred DNS 192.168.0.1.

In Windows vista it appeared connected to the wireless network, but no internet access. When i selected to diagnose the connection it said that it can't find DNS server or something like that.

I must say that the broadband connection has different ip's eveytime it connects. Must the ip's in the wireless connection be the same with the ip' broadband connection?

I am trying to set up an ad hoc wireless network to share a dial up internet
connection but am having trouble getting the internet sharing happening. I thought this would be a fairly painless thing to do - obviously not!

I am using two computers:

1 - a desktop with a dial up modem and a wireless network card running on
Windows XP Home that connects to the internet via a dialup modem.

2 - a notebook with a wireless network card running Windows Vista Business.

I want the laptop to be able to connect wirelessly to the desktop and share
the dial up internet connection (once that is working will then want to share
printers).

Both computers have wireless network cards.

I have managed to set up the wireless network and it seems to be working OK but the internet connection sharing isn't working.

The desktop still connects to the internet and works properly.

The laptop sees the desk top system but it shows that the internet is not connected to the desktop (even though it is).

I have tried a number of different IP config and DNS settings on both network cards but seem to be chasing my tail.

Can anyone offer me some assistance to get this up and running?

Hi

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this connection will work.

At home I receive internet via cable (always on). Because the internet connection output is on the living room (where the tv is) it is a bit difficult to share the internet with the rest of my wire network which is located on the opposite side of the house.
I was thinking of setting up the following connection:

Set up a wireless router in the living room. Where my current network is, install a wireless NIC card in a pc. Use on the same pc the onboard NIC card to connect to a HUB and share the connection with the rest of the network.

Will it work??

Thank you in advance for your help

Sorry if this question is redundant but I can't make sense of all the acronyms used in the search results I got to know if they apply to me. So here's what my situation is:

I was given an 802.11g USB 2.0 Wireless LAN Adapter and the installation disk that goes with it. Now I can connect to the internet via a public wireless network - that's how I got here! So far, so good. Now I want to share the connection with my roommate. At our old house, we used a shared DSL connection through our home network. But when I tried to set up the home network at our new place (it's ethernet), it wouldn't let me share this intenet connection because it says that I am connecting to the interenet through another computer. But it's a public access connection...? There's no land line here, so no DSL or dial-up access is available. I don't have a very good understanding of the whole wireless internet thing in the first place, and there's no help file included with the wireless adapter. Is it possible to share this connection or not? I don't want to set up a wireless home network - I want to share the wireless internet connection on an ethernet home network. I'm very experienced with PC's but this is my first time using any wireless technology and I'm floundering. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Can I share a wireless public internet connection on my home network?

It does not matter what your connection is - wireless, wired, dialup, carrier pidgeons - it doesn't matter. You can always share it.

What you are experiencing may be some limitation of the Windows ICS or the wizard you are using. Depending on how the public access thing is set up, you may be able to share the connection by bridging the wireless and LAN connections on your computer. (Select both wireless and LAN in your network connections, right click and say that you want to bridge these two.

When i had windows XP installed, i never had trouble tranfering from one network share to another... I would at least get roughtly 25MBs.. but with Vista (32 & 64) and Windows 7, transfering between network shares is super slow.. could takes days sometimes...

is this happening to other people??

Answer:vista: Network Share to Local = ~50MB/s | Share to Share = 1MB/s.. Huh?

I believe, this is also caused when I have to transfer files from my ipod. that it has to cache on my computer, and then transfer to the network share / computer, this is my theory, I never tested it ofc, maybe someone with more knowledge could help.

it's like unpacking a rar into a network share.

Hi All,

Here's a question for the hardcore network tech gurus...

I sometimes travel overseas where I use a USB GSM cellular modem card to get internet from the local cell tower. The cellular card plugs right into the USB slot on my Win 7 laptop.

What are the security risks with this kind of connection? I'm guessing I'm connecting directly to the internet rather than connecting thru some kind of router. Am I connected using DHCP or something else? Any details most appreciated.

I have a good firewall and anti-malware program running (Blink Pro).

Thanks,

Tom

Answer:Cellular modem connection

Other than the software firewall you're running, you're directly touching the internet.

Before I got my Novatel MiFi, I was using a Pantech PX500 connection card. I used both a software firewall and also Deep Freeze. Now that I have the MiFi, I don't need to run a software firewall if I don't want to.

Anyone out there using cellular broadband (flash card or usb dongle from your cell carrier)?

We're possibly moving to an area with no other broadband options.

Verizon Wireless offers a plan for $60 per month 600k-1.4m downstream, 5gb monthly transfer. The sales rep was able to tell me there is a tower providing the evdo service 1.2 miles from the house so I should get pretty good reception.

So anyway, I'm just asking if you use a service like this, how does it work for you.

Answer:Anyone using cellular broadband for your primary connection?

I have a EVDO (rev-a) card for my laptop, its not my primary internet connection, but I use it frequently when traveling.

If the signal is good (~ -80dbi or better) then the speeds are usually good. The latency is a little high, about 80-120ms to the first router, which makes online gaming difficult. But for general web usage and such its perfect.

Hello,

I use a 3G SIM card to connect to network. Now suddenly it stopped automatically connecting to it.

When I go to Network & Internet / Cellular / there are check boxes for connect automatically and allow roaming.
It doesn't seem to matter what I do with them. The connect automatically box is checked, but it won't connect.

If I uncheck the box and close the window, bam, it will by itself appear the next time I open settings.

I've done all I can think of down to removing the SIM card and removing the whole cellular device from Device Manager and letting Windows re-install it....nothing seems to help. It always claims automatic connection is in use, but it isn't. It will connect OK if I go to Cellular and press connect. There is no connection option with right button on the task bar either.

Any ideas what to try besides completely reinstalling W10? Or can I at least create an icon to turn on cellular connection on the desktop - it drives me crazy to have to go to settings and manuall connect twenty times a day, since it always turns off the connection when the screen saver goes on or I close the lid for a moment etc...really annoying.

I have found very little info on the service or what can be done with it.

I want to setup the cellular internet, run it throught my Firewall/router (clarkconnect) and distribute it to the network.

Any info or thoughts on this would be very helpful.

Answer:cellular internet and a network.

We have some guys in our company who use it for laptops. It works fairly well but like a cell phone you cannot rely on perfect quality (slow) or availability.

For a home, I don't know how it works. I've only seen the adapters in a PCMCIA format, but you can probably get them in something Desktop ready.

Hello Everyone,

I hope you're all doing well

I have a 2GB/month data connection on a ZTE USB 3G modem. When I connect, it shows up as a dialup connection in Windows 10, meaning that there is no way for me to make it a metered connection. This morning, Windows ate up 1.1 GB of data in the background while I was online for 30 minutes on Amazon and eBay and checking my email. That's half my data gone in a few minutes!

As you can imagine, I was pretty upset. However, I can't seem to find any workaround for this.

Is there any way to make Windows 10 see that this is a cellular mobile broadband connection? That way I'll be able to set it as a metered connection. Or is there any way to set dialup connections to metered connections? I really can't have all my data being used up in a day.

Thanks for your time!

Answer:Windows 10 sees ZTE USB 3G modem as a dialup connection, not cellular

Most likely, your modem manufacturer created their drivers as dial-up drivers, which means this was a choice by the modems manufacturer. They would have to create new drivers.

You are probably either stuck with it as is, or buy a different one.

What would you do if you want to have the fastest possible cellular

Are there any good software for automatic *teaming* these two

I just googled for "modem teaming" or "connection teaming" software and
I found a software called "MidPoint Companion" that was able to "team

xDSL, cable modems, dedicated lines, and the like.
MidPoint's best feature is its modem teaming and "Download Doubler,"
which splits files into smaller pieces across the available modems.
This feature works using any browser connected to an HTTP 1.1

earth!
The last evolution of it that I can find now is "MidPoint Plus 5.04"
that seems arrested in 2002.

Then I found another software named Vicomsoft InterGate but I don't
trust him because they don't publish any technical detail about the
"connection teaming" function in this program.

What's the best available actually-supported software for modem

FatSecret only works (able to add items) when on my wifi. I get an error when on my cell phone network. I am on a Lumia 650 using StraightTalk which sits on the ATT network. I emailed FatSecret, and they said they got no other similar bug reports. Does anyone have this problem and/or a fix? Thanks.

if my phone is idle for a while, if you try making call it cant, and if friends call my line, it returns as switched off, i took time to trace what the problem was and i discovered that the cellular network part will just gray out.
until i have to do a hard reset before it will work.
i decided to change the network mode from automatic to manual search to see if that will solve the problem, but it remained the same.
This problem actually started when i updated my nokia phone to the latest windows 8.1 new release. i later did factory restore about twice but still is like the bug is in the OS.
does anyone have the solution to this?

I am user of a X61s 7669 4DG laptop with integrated Sierra Wireless MC8775 HSDPA Modem. Initially it was operating in the Vodafone network. Recently we switched to the other major Spanish operator Telefonica Movistar and now I can not use the integrated card and I have to travel with a 3G USB adapter. I imagine that the integrated card is locked to the Vodafone network and it does not allow to connect to Telefonica Movistar. I would like to know how could I unlock the card to be able to use it with networks different from Vodafone. Thanks and best regards,

Answer:X61 Wireless WAN adapter problem with cellular network

You might want to check what 3G band the Moviestar network is operating on in Spain.

From what I could see, it is the 900MHz band (and possibly the 1800MHz band) while the MC8775 card only supports 3G operation on the 850, 1900, 2100 MHz bands.
Cheers,

When I turn on data connection using cellular, my SIM balance is goes nil in quite a short time due to background tasks using data. Here, cellular data chargers are quite expensive in my country. I did try using data sense and turn off live tiles etc. Looks like some apps like cortana will still use data in background on cellular network. So, can I enable only some apps like UC browser to use data connection and completely turn off cellular data for background tasks and apps using data in background ?

Answer:how to turn off background data when using cellular network ?

Either turned data completely off or buy data bundle deal from Telco.

I have a unusual case where I need to setup two mapped network drives as two different users to the same share location. When I attempt to map the second drive after inputting the user name and password the system goes on its merry way for a few seconds
and then returns me back to the username/password input.
If I change the second mapped network drive to use the IP address the two shares work happily. If I manipulate the host file and point two paths to the same address then I can also work around this problem. However, I would simply like to know why I am blocked
from setting two mapped drives to point to the same share with different credentials?
e.g.
TestFolder on TestServer is shared to TestUser1 & TestUser2 where the IP of TestServer is 192.168.0.2.
Case1
If I map S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser2 it will not work.
Case2
Mapping S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\192.168.0.2\TestFolder using TestUser2 it will work and I can access the folder as the two different users.
Case 3
If I map S: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1, if I then map T: to \\TestServer\TestFolder using TestUser1 it will also work (but I am accessing S: & T: as the same user).
Why do cases 2 + 3 work, but case 1 does not?

Hello,
So for a few weeks my HTC 8S Windows Phone 8 has refused to connect to any wifi network - when I attempt to connect, it simply says "unable to reach wireless network", and does this for all networks, not just my home wireless. None of my other devices are experiencing a problem. Whilst this has been happening for weeks and I have been getting around it by using my generous mobile data package, this morning that no longer works either. Instead, when I try to find mobile networks, it says that none are found, where usually it would automatically connect to my carrier's (Virgin) and identify others. And more recently than that, the mobile signal bar is reporting no connection. So not only has my phone gone from being a smartphone to a phone, but has now downgraded itself from phone to useless block of plastic. I have just done a factory reset to try and resolve the problem but the phone still finds no signal and the same problem occurs when I try to connect to wifi.
I would really appreciate some suggestions as to the cause of the problem and any solutions.
Thanks,
Jack

Answer:HTC 8S Won't connect to wifi, or mobile internet, or cellular network.

I wouldn't normally attempt a reply to this sort of question but nobody else has, so it's down to you and me. All I can say is if you've done soft and hard resets and gone into recovery mode and cleared cache and all the other things with no success, it looks like the phone might have a hardware fault, such as with the aerial, and that the attentions of a repairer are called for. Sorry it's all I've got to offer.

Trying to get a client set up on Fios, but it's taking forever for Verizon to get their act together and get the fiber line into the building, so with the rest of the internal network already set up and configured, I'm looking to use an ipad with cellular access as a temporary solution.

If I set up a laptop to connect to the hotspot provided by the ipad, then connect it to the LAN, I can set up the internet connection sharing on the laptop to allow access to the internet, but I'm curious if anyone has done this before, and if so, how were the internet speeds?

We're looking at anywhere from 40-50 devices on the network at one time.

Greetings,
I have an odd issue.. a user reports that they are unable to access a network shared folder from their PC. Here is what I have gathered so far:
-The network share is from their PC located at C:\SQL2014. The share name is SQL2014. Their hostname for this example is "ABC".
-If I attempt to connect to the share from the user's PC ABC to \\ABC\SQL2014 I get the generic error:
  "Windows cannot access \\ABC\SQL2014
You do not have permission to access \\ABC\SQL2014. Contact your network administrator to request access."
-If I attempt to connect to the share by ABC's IP \\192.168.1.140\SQL2014 I can access it.
-If I attempt to connect to the share by ABC's FQDN at  \\ABC.domain.com\SQL2014 I can access it.
-If I map ABC\SQL2014 as a drive letter, I can access it.
-Connecting to this share works fine from any other PC other than ABC.
-I've confirmed the error is affecting any profile old or new on ABC, which means it is a PC-wide issue on ABC.
-If I share C:\SQL2014 as ANY OTHER NAME OTHER THAN SQL2014, I can access it. As in if I share C:\SQL2014 with the share name SQL2014a, I can access \\ABC\SQL2014a.
-Deleted the share and recreated - same issue.
-Created C:\Test and shared it as SQL2014, cannot access \\ABC\SQL2014. It is NOT an issue with the actual SQL2014 folder.

From internet searches I've found the following solutions do not affect my case:
-Clearing CSC/Offline cache (most common working solution)
-C... Read more

So basically - as the subject says -
Having a brand new Dell XPS 15 9550
with most recent Dell Wireless 1830 802.11ac drivers
cmd command "netsh wlan show drivers"
shows that current driver does not support hosted network,
meaning, that i am unable, for example, to share my ethernet internet connection Over wifi to other devices - i am unable to make my laptop a hotspot.
Which is ridiculous in 2016 and for a laptop of this level and is basically a prerequisite to be Windows 10 approved.
So my question is DELL, what the ***? When do we get normal drivers?
Anybody has the same issue - knows the workaround? Thanks.
I could not have expected that 2000$ laptop would not be able to do that. this is soul crushing.

After hibernating my Thinkpad Yoga 260 in most cases the cellular network fails to connect and continously displays the status "Disconnected". I have enabled the option "Let Windows manage this connection". In this condition when I disable "Let Windows manage this connection" and hit the "Connect" button I get the message "Can't connect to this network to this network.  Enter an APN and try again.". I've entered a new APN according to instructions of my mobile network provider but the behavior did not change.  When I reboot my notebook the cellular network connects correctly. This behaviour is new since abut two weeks after Windows has updated to the fall creators version. Before that it was working perfectly.  Of course I've run Windows and Lenovo updates.Additionally I've installed the latest version  of "Sierra Wireless EM7455 Software for Windows 10 (64-bit)" 7.47.4743.0105. In Device Manger this also updated the version of "Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A" to 10.0.16299.192. I would appreciate very much if somebody has an idea how to solve this issue. Many thanks!

I thought i saw this a few years ago, about someone that did this to their divx player.

Is there a way for a device say google tv or a divx player that has a usb slot that is meant for usb hard drives/media to share a network location as if it were were on a usb hard drive?

I thought some guy took WAP, loaded some software on it that allowed network shares to appear locally and then connected the WAP with a usb cable to the device, just wondering if there was something commercially available that does this?

Since yesterday morning my Lumia 730 randomly fails to connect to any internet service. I mean WhatsApp is working but it fails to load pictures. Internet explorer is not working. The device itself randomly stops functioning so every time that happens I have to do a soft reset. Also I tried a soft reset, switching SIM cards, connecting to different Wi-Fi networks, freeing up some space, deleting some apps. Is it possible that the SD card I've recently put into my l730 caused all these problems? (I have some apps installed on SD card, the last time I turned it on it showed a dialogue saying that I the SD needs to be scanned and fixed (or something like that) I've done it and it all started).

Answer:Lumia 730 fails to load internet content on both Wi-Fi and cellular network and loses functionality

Time to reset your phone. I don't prefer installing apps in your sd card. It somehow messes up your phone. If the problem doesn't go away by itself it won't be an easy job fixing your phone manually.

E means 2G. That could mean you don't have a strong 3G signal at your place.

I've just had a new PC built for me, for the first time rather than build it myself I aid a local shop, and it's a pretty nice machine. They got windows up and running, when I got it back and lugged it in I don't even remember it asking about whether my network was home, work or public (I may be mistaken about that)

A lot of the networking is fine, by adding 'everyone' to the share, and joining the same homegroup as my laptop, I managed to get each to see their desktops, so I'm up and running with most of my workflow. But there's a couple of things not quite right about the network:

I've got a Xerox Phaser 60 network printer. It's got a simple 'walk-up' installer where you get the windows software into listening mode and then on the printer's menu initiate the connection. This doesn't find the printer. Even choosing the manual option of inputting the ip won't find it. So I've had to connect it with USB, not the end of the world, but shows that something's not right.

I have a lot of media on a dlna server in my home. Setting up kodi to find it, the SMB devices didn't show the host. Though, manually typing the IP in this case did find it. Lucky I knew the IP. Weird

And trying to FTP to my website fails too. It says "EAI_FAIL - Nonrecoverable failure in name resolution" Yet the same settings on my laptop (imported from the laptop) connects fine.

Surely there's something not quite right. Is there a way to reset all the network connection settings to default 'out of... Read more

I operate a network of sites for a state air monitoring program. One site has two trailers that were previously connected with a wireless ethernet bridge. I installed a cellular router to give them internet access, and they were both able to utilize the connection through the LAN. The ethernet bridge recently went down, and I tried replacing it with a standard wireless router and wireless adapter I purchased from Staples (I needed something right away). When I linked the two trailers with a wireless network connection, it disconnected the LAN and I was unable to access the internet. Is it possible to do this? I'm assuming a wireless ethernet bridge would be better, and also the cellular router does not have a wireless function on it, or I would assume that would be best?

Answer:Cellular router and Wireless router on same network

I assume the wireless router from Staples has its DHCP server disabled.

I know that generally i need a router and have to plug the TW modem into router/switch combo, setup MAC address cloning, then attach PC's to router/switch ports but was wondering if i can set it up without router..?Telewest BB connection just has the Motorola sb4200 surfboard cable modem plugged straight into PC 01 via installed NIC.Can i add an additional NIC into PC 01, connect it with RJ45 CAT 5 x-over cable to a PCMCIA NIC for the laptop (PC 02) to get an Internet connection using ICS in Windows XP that runs on PC 01, or do i have to go with the router option, any help, alternative solutions (bridging), suggestions, thanks in advance...

Answer:Telewest BB Connection Help (share connection)

Personal opinion would be to go down the router road. However:Why not consider wireless? It's relatively cheap these days.2 wireless pci adapters will allow you to connect both machines for file sharing and pc1 can be used as PC 2's web access. You can buy 2 wireless adapters (802.11b) from ebuyer for 40 delivered and no doubt cheaper from the local PC shop. The only downside to this method is pc1 has to be switched on if PC requires web access. If you go to the blueyonder networking section click here they'll quite happily supply you with netgear products to the tune of 111 for a router, wireless pcmcia card for laptop and usb wireless adapter for PC (802.11b).Definitely consider wireless, especially with the summer coming up and that nice Chardonnay you been saving can be sipped whilst you while away endless hours surfing on the lounger in the garden.Happy hunting

hi all, I'm a newbie, but have spent some time searching thru prievous posts and upon other forums without finding an answer, so I apologise in advance if this is simpleton stuff.

I've moved into a mates house, who has moved to australia but left me his PC.

His setup is as follows: a 1ghz athlon running winxp home edition and is connected via a vigor2200usb router to a usb external alcatel speedtouch 330 modem, housed in a separate room to his PC. He used to run his PC and multiple xbox's from the router with no problems via his ISP PIPEX adsl account which.. I'm supposed to take over.

I've brought into the mix my own PC : P4 1.5 ghz running WINME which used to connect fine and run smoothly via a dialup 56k modem and ISP freeserve. I notified them I was moving but upon getting here was unable to access the internet from that PC, even if I removed the broadband connections (microfilters) from the house. (v90 modem now removed along with dial up settings)

I began to get "poproxy.exe has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL" messages on bootup which i've traced to my about to expire copy of Norton AV, which is now removed.

In addtition I started to get weird error messages on startup to do with "program X causing an error in KERNEL32.DLL" which I gather can be for "reason X". Answer:How to share one connection on 3 pcs ?

Well, as long as you're patient it'll probably do.

Is that wireless connection to a wireless router? If so, you simply bridge the wireless and wired connections in the one machine and connect the wired port to that switch. The other machines connected to the switch will have access to the router as long as that wireless machine is running.

Well i finally got rid of my ntl 600k service because of inumerable problems and im waiting for my new "pipex" adsl BB service to be switched on,thing is my daughter who lives next door has been at me to connect our pc's together to share the connection.she has been advised that a simple network cable will suffice as long as my pc is switched on but as she would be a bit on the nocturnal side a separate cable would be required to enable her to use it while my pc is off.The distance involved woud be approx 15 mts and i would run any cables on the external wall.I run windows xp and the other pc runs windows me.If someone could advise on the simplest way i could achieve this i'd be eternally grateful. Many TIA.

Answer:share my adsl connection ...how ???

If you use a router to connect the two computers then your computer will not need to be on, you connect your computer to one of the router ports and then connect the modem to the router and lastly connect your daughters PC to the router and she will be able to share without your PC being on.

Answer:Way to share my internet connection?

Here's a checklist of things for ICS and file sharing for 2 croslinked computers (This is what works for Win 7 and XP):

- both computers set to the same workgroup
- restarts
- advanced sharing settings - all things turned on (network discovery etc.) except for password protected sharing
- bridged the connection with the internet
- turned on Internet Connection Sharing for the internet connection - this forced an ip to the other connection (192.168.137.1) and gave an option to select which connection should have access to the ICS (the second connection or the bridge - you choose the second / crosslinked cable connection)
- shared some folders on both computers
- worked instantly (the other pc aquired a correct ip and internet)

Try this:
"Just plug the Crossover cable into the two computers. To set it up go to Control Panel/Network.

If there is and entry there for TCP/IP fine. If not you need to add it. Click Add the Protocal/Add. Select Microsoft and select TCP/IP and OK.

Once you have TCP/IP install highlight it and click properties. Click specifiy IP address and insert 192.168.000.001. Enter sub net mask of 255.255.255.000.

You may get asked if you want to re-boot at this stage. Decline as there is more to do.

Click File and Printer sharing and tick both boxes. Now you can re-boot.

Do the same on the other computer but this time enter an IP address if 192.168.000.002 with the same mask. Install file and printer sharing as well and reboot.

Once the computers have re-booted you need to set up sharing. Right click on any drive or folder in Windows Explorer and clcik Sharing. Click shared as: Either axcept the name offered or enter one of your own. Hello all,

Okay hear is the problem that I am faced with... I have a Virgin Mobile MC760 3G broadband device, I want to share that 3G internet connection with my D-Link DIR-615 router so that I can connect to the 3G over WiFi on my other devices.

The host computer that the 3G device would be plugged into is running Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 2.

I realize that they do sell 3G routers but I would like to use the D-Link DIR-615 that I already have to avoid buying another router. I also realize that it may be easier to share the connection by creating a wireless network on the host computer and then enable internet sharing, I don't want to do this I need to share the connection through the router.

I don't know if it is possible to do this but any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will need a second network card on the PC so that you can connect it to the router and use Internet Connection Sharing.

you would need to purchase a router to make the pppoe connection if you wish to share with both pcs at the same time. Or if your fine with only one having acces at anygiven time you would need to get a pppoe connection manager thats 98 compatible as win98 doesn't natively do pppoe like xp.

Hi. I'm having this problem in Windows 8 where I can't share the Internet with another PC, which runs Windows XP. My Internet connection name displays as "Unidentified network" which I think disables ICS and sharing altogether. I've also tried changing configurations in the HomeGroup and, although a second connection called "Network 2" set as "Private network" appears, it disappears after I reboot the PC. Any help please?

Answer:Can't share Internet connection

Maybe this tutorial will help. It helps to use a crossover cable for this connection but I believe there are ways around that. The second link shows settings more specific to setting up connection sharing with XP machines.
Internet Connection Sharing - Enable - Windows 7 Forums
Internet Sharing using Cross-Over cable - Windows 7 Forums

You will also want to leave the Home group if you set one up. Home groups are made for Windows 7 machines only.

If you need to share files between those machines you should set up a Workgroup using the same workgroup name for all machines in the workgroup.

I've recently networked two computers, a newer HP Pavilion (XP-h) and an older Compaq Presario (ME) using a d-link router. Both computers have a dial-up connection when needed (which is rare) but on occasions it would be nice to have both computers online at the same time.

Is there a way to do this? I know I could do it easily with a broadband connection, especially because I'm using a router anyway, but that's just not needed here.

thanks,
JTN

Answer:share a dial-up connection

you can do Internet Connection Sharing. You will have to choose which one will be the 'gateway', but I wouldn't recommend it on a dial-up service.

Actually I wouldn't recommend it period. It's a pain in the rear when something goes wrong.

I know my LAN is connected because I can see the files on the host computer from the client (but not the other way around - weird and it pings o.k. The "Local Area Connection" shows little or no connectivity and I cannot connect to the internet on my client computer. I have run the network setup wizard and repair but not success. Any ideas out there? Thank you for any help on this...:confused

My parents have a Dell desktop running windows XP and a new HP 64bit desktop running Windows 7 64bit. They have an actiontec wireless modem/router. I can connect the modem to the Dell computer and get an internet connection. I can move the modem to the other roon and connect it to the new computer and get an internet connection. I cannot get it to work on both.

I connected the modem to the HP computer using ethernet port 1 on the modem and the Dell on ethernet port 2 via a long ethernet cable. I cannot enable ICS on Win 7 because it doesn't see anything else connected. The Dell says nothing is connected to the LAN. Not sure what is going on unless the ethernet cable is bad or possibly too long. Any ideas?

Later this morning I am going to take a multimeter over and do a continuity check on the ethernet cable (I crimped the ends on) and make sure it is good. Am I correct is saying that it should be a "straight through" ethernet cable? Just wondering if there's any other setting I should check while I'm there.

Is it a router you've connected your computer to? If it is, make sure you've enabled NAT in the router...
Often you can access those settings by opening either:
http://192.168.2.1/, http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1/

Hi guys!
I have a server with Windows server 2003.

I want to connect to internet with it without having Internet for itself.
I mean:
- It dials the internet connection
- By DHCP, it gives IP, Gateway and DNS addresses to clients machine
- Clients have Internet
- Server doesn't have internet

Is it possible?

I have bought 2 Wireless Desktop Network Cards and installed them both (1 on each computer). They have picked up each other's signals and connected to each other perfectly fine.

My question is, how do I share my Internet connection with the computer that doesn't have Internet access? The guy at the shop told me it's possible to do this but there's no instructions or anything in the box to tell you how.

I have one PC that is connecting wirelessly to a network

I have a laptop that I can't get the wireless to work on (this is due to a physical fault)
I've tried using an external wireless USB stick - but no joy
Basically it's an old and battered laptop

How can I share the internet connection from the PC (that's getting the connection wirelessly)?
Can I join the PC and the laptop with an ethernet cable and share the connection??
If so, how?

Thanks

Hi all,I have recently moved to Pipex BB, and thoroughly love it. I am considering utilising two spare machines I have to go online too, I dont want to mess around with hard wiring CAT 5 cables etc...so I was thinking of a wireless netwaork/router. Can an y point me in the right directions for tips and a good guide? Including the best way to setup and what hardware I require. Thanks peeps.

Answer:Broadband...best way to share connection?

You will need a Access Gateway plus a PCI wireless card for each PC. Then just follow the wizard to set up. Its very easy, but expensive in comparison to using a hub and patch cables..

Hello There,

I have been using windows since forever on my Computers.
For years I have been using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on My Main PC and Secondary PC.

Normally I would create a Homegroup on the Main, And get the Secondary to join.
I'd then Share my Dialup Connection, And the Secondary PC has internet too, To play MMOs, Download, and anything else.
All by just using my LAN Cable to connect the two.

But this doesn't work on Windows 8.1 Pro

I have seen LOTS and LOTS of step by step "Solutions" Which I have followed to the letter but couldn't achieve anything at all.

Can anybody please help me solve this problem so I can have internet on both of my PCs again?
And can Windows 7 Ultimate share Internet to Win 8.1 Pro still? Or is it Win 8.1 Pro too broken to even be shared to?

Please help me it is urgent and I've wasted 2 days trying to solve this, I have a killer flu and I need to fix this before Monday

Kind Regards

Hi there,

I am currently trying to set up some internet sharing action, and am having a bit of difficulty. Ok, so there is a wireless network in the house I am in, my laptop has wireless in built, but my desktop has no wireless card so as I am in the attic of the house, I am unable to just use an ethernet cable to connect it to the internet. I DO, however, have a cat 5 crossover cable, and was just wondering if it is possible to go from wireless router to wireless laptop, then through a WIRED connection to the desktop?

I've been trying for about half an hour now, but no joy. Am I just being stupid, or do I just create a connection between the desktop and the laptop and then bridge it with the wireless connection? is there something that I need to activate that I've missed?

I have just bought a wireless card, and it should be arriving next week, but I just thought it might be interesting to someone to solve this question.

thanks guys

Hello. 1st I'd like to excuse myself for possible grammatical fails in my problem, I'm not American nor Britainian so please accept my excuse.

Okay, here's the problem.

I'm connecting to internet via Wi-Fi USB adapter and my connection works great. But few days ago friend brought his PC to me so we could do some online gaming over night but there my problems started. We connected both PC's with ethernet cable in this scheme (My PC - ethernet cable - unset router - ethernet cable - his PC)

Okay the problem is that when I set up the LAN, I can't connect to the internet ( I noticed that I can surf the internet when I share my Wireless connection in advanced settings, so I use that trick to connect to the Internet when I need to ) but we can play in LAN.

So here's the real conflict. Why can't I share my internet connection to his PC. I allow my Wireless Network Connection sharing but he can't connect to the internet.

We're both using WinXP SP3 and we have almost same PC's. So can anyone help me?

I am even willing to use TeamViewer for easier help if someone can help me?
