Preferred Solution: Windows 10 anniversary update not detecting

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!
Nelson Davis

Answer:windows 10 update from version 1511 to 1607 anniversary update - does not update

Can you check to see what OS version you have? Check in settings > system > OS build. It should show something like 14393.5 or 14393.10

We couldn't install Windows 10
0xC1900101 - 0x40017
We've set you PC back to where it was right before you started installing Windows 10
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation
What was tried: Connected straight to ethernet, Turned off wireless and Defender A/V, Removing the D/L files, D/L fresh from ISO file, launched install file, went through approx 50% and PC rebooted - nor stuck on black screen with swirling dots for OVER 4 hours with a brief HD access every couple of seconds.
Rebooted again -- still swirling dots on black screen. Tried again, same results.
Rebooted with F8 to get original Win 10 back.
Turned on "metered connection" option for WLAN to stop this update from happening. But now I cannot get and security updates for this machine.
Please suspend this D/L until fixed. Cannot afford to have no protection!

I've wanted to download an app called Clamour, but I need a newer version of Windows Phone 10. I am part of the insider preview, and have searched for updates, however, I have no updates waiting yet. I thought the update rolled out to the Lumia 950. Has it not yet or am I missing something?

I am trying to update from Windows 10 OS Build 10586.589 to the Anniversary Update but my computer freezes at 1% progress. I have tried everything I can think of including: Unplugging all extra SATA drives except my main SSD, unplugging my wireless network adapter, unplugging all USB devices (even mouse and keyboard), removing old drivers and updating outdated ones, and installing the update through a USB flash drive. It always gets to the same part and freezes until I shutdown my computer and lose no data.

You can see pictures of the frozen screen here: http://imgur.com/a/PseoH.

I have read other threads on this subject and have not found the solution to my problem in them.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Upgrade Assistant Icon appeared on my desktop. I began the process to update and received the error, SOMETHING WENT WRONG (code 0x80070057).

Then I took the following steps:

Did a CC clean of drive. Got same response.
Did a disk doctor and then tried again. Same response.
Did SFC/scannow. Got same response.
Did checkdsk/. Got same response
Did Windows update diagnostic and got SERVICE REGISTRATION IS MISSING OR CORRUPT.

What do I do to correct the problem?

Answer:Windows 10 Anniversary Update

This worked for me. May not solve your issue but worth a try. (see my post)

"Got it updated. On the MS Forum it seems to have been an issue for lots of users. One work around suggested was to disconnect (immediately) any wifi/ethernet connection when update sticks at 2%. Count to 30 or 40 and re-connect."

Strangely this worked and update completed.

Please bear with me.. I'm on my phone.. the Anniversary update must have taken over my computer. But.. is 5 hours normal? It did restart like it said a couple of times and the last percentage I saw was 59%, then the reboot again. It is "still" working on something. The circle keeps going around.
Thanks.. you're helping a "Senior" that is getting frustrated that something is wrong and doesn't know what to do.

Answer:Windows 10 Anniversary update

No. Not normal.

Something has gone wrong. Perhaps it will right itself, but it seems doubtful.

Have you some means of rebooting the Laptop either to a recovery disk or backup?

The "anniversary update" for Windows 10 is scheduled to be released to the public on August 2nd - 10 days from now.
This update will likely change the version of Windows 10 from 10586 to 14393.
Microsoft advises this update will be released in stages, so many of you may need to wait awhile before you're able to make the upgrade.

I have three laptops; have had no problem installing the 1607 version of Windows 10 on two of them; the third one (my primary laptop) does not install it even after many attempts. The message displayed is attached.

The update goes through the cycle and at the end, it just does not go any further, and I have to get back to the version 1511. Grateful for any assistance. I have run sfc /scannow, tried to update any drivers (all seemed to be already the latest).

My two pcs at home don't show the Anniversary Update at all, otherwise they're both fully updated.

It's been available since 2nd August. I could manually install it, but I'm wondering why it hasn't auto-installed yet.

Also, have the initial 'issues' reported with the update been resolved?

Answer:Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Assuming your devices have enough space, resources, etc to get the update - with past updates it may take up to two months to make it around the slow ring. You can speed this up by changing to a faster ring or manually getting it.

I am not sure what "issues" you are referring to.. so, maybe?

After updating windows 10 anniversary, pc often remains frozen for a few seconds. It's a common problem to other PCs.  Do you have a solution?

Answer:Windows 10 anniversary update

Valterred The Anniversary Update (AU) is a whole NEW version of Win10.  The previous was 10586; this is 14393 -- and the community Win10 forums are awash with folks whose machines, which had previously been running Win10 without problems, SUDDENLY developed problems either trying to install this Update, or after installing this Update. My desktop has been running Win10 without problems since the earliest days of the Insider Preview over a year ago and it's sailed through Update after Update without problems.  So, you can imagine my surprise when the AU trashed my PC -- to the degree that I restored it from an image backup. What MIGHT work is something known as a repair-install.  This is the least destructive of all the Windows recovery functions and rewrites the Windows system files, including the drivers, leaving your data, settings, and applications intact. To do this, you will need to use the link to download Win10 installation media and either burn a DVD or create a USB stick: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit).  Make sure you select the same version as needed for your PC. If you do not, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!Once you have that media, follow the instructions in t... Read more

Answer:First one with windows 10 anniversary update

Why the rush. Everyone is going to have a different set of circumstances. Also taking into account that everyone's Internet speed, hardware, network setup is different, you are not going to get a perfect set of criteria for statistics.

Answer:Windows 10 anniversary update

Hello, if you search the web, you will find a significant number of people are experiencing significant issues with the anniversary upgrade including freezing. As yours is a custom built PC, there's no direct comparison or manufacturer to refer to. I've noted a couple who needed a BIOS update.

If yours works reliably with Win 10 10586 but not the anniversary upgrade, I suggest you roll back to 10586 (allowed up to 10 days after upgrading) and block the upgrade. This is/was possible even with the Home edition:
Stop Windows 10 from automatically updating your PC - CNET
e.g. by using Wifi only, as a metered connection or disabling the appropriate service.

You'd need to check what actually works now in the anniversary edition for Windows Home, as this, like features and GUI, may have changed.

This was provided for Home users.. I don't know if it still applies now.

Microsoft are going to be rolling out improvements to Windows 10 systems over the coming weeks (starting today) with the "Windows 10 Anniversary Update"... think of it as a service pack!

If you're using Windows 10 already, you'll likely notice some big changes/improvements when it hits - including a new style start menu. There is more information on what can be expected on the Windows Insider blog:

Let's hear what you think of it once it has been installed .

I'm not sure how you got rid of edge but yes, those removed programs will be reinstalled as that is part of the update. If you removed the apps because you didn't enjoy them the first time, try them after getting the update, they've improved a lot

Answer:Windows 10 will not update to anniversary.

I would download the Anniversary Update ISO and perform a clean installation. Just remember to backup all your personal data first.

When you are finished installing/configuring, make a backup copy of system partition with any tool like Macrium Reflect.

Do you have Fast Startup turned on in Power Options/change what the power buttons do?

That speeds up boot time, but makes shutdown a bit slower, as then the system needs to write your current state to a hiberfile.

When Win 10 Anniversary Update previously installed itself on my PC, it rendered my PC unusable, in that Desktop would show on boot up but clicking any icon had no effect. So, my PC was 'rolled back' to the previous state and has been working well since.
I would now like to update my PC with the Anniversary Update (having uninstalled conflicting software) but I don't know how to initiate this. On clicking 'Check for Updates' it says it's up to date.
Can someone please advise me as to how to proceed to update this, please?
Many thanks

Hi,
I previously posted a question under same topic and received 2 alternatives - 1) to copy the update on a bootable disk and 2) to differ updates in advanced settings.
Unfortuantely both doesnt work for me due to
1) I do not have a disk drive in my Samsung Series 5 Ultra book
2) I have windows for private use

Who all has and hasn't received the Windows 10 Anniversary Update yet?

I still haven't received the Anniversary Update yet on 2 of my computers. I don't want to download it from the internet again like I did on my Desktop and my personal Laptop since the update was or is still buggy.

P.S. @Brink, if you need to move this thread to the appropriate section, please go ahead. I didn't know where to put it at.

Answer:Who all has and has not received the Windows 10 Anniversary Update yet

I posted in another thread that I have not received the Anniversary Update on all four of my computers. One of them just checked for updates and again came back without it. I have had no problems with updates on any of the computers so unless I know for a fact that there is a problem I am going to wait it out.

MS said the update is rolling out in waves and it could take some time until everyone gets it.

Firstly hello all. So this computer was a christmas gift paired with the HTC Vive. It's run smoothly and not had a single issue until today(obviously). I was going to install a game when I was told I needed to first install Windows 10 Anniversary update. So told it to go ahead and do so. It downloaded then installed update. It restarted itself and the screen turned black. I left it alone for 3 hours and still nothing. I tried turning the monitor off and on to no effect. Tried restarting the PC and still nothing. Then on a whim I thought ok, the lights are all on, so it is obviously running. I tried entering my pin code to see what would happen. As soon as I did I heard the machine click to life and POOF I have a display! But now a new issue. I can see my desktop, I can see the windows taskbar at the bottom. However there are no desktop icons. There is no mouse curser either. If I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete the screen goes black. I escape out of it? Screen goes back to empty desktop. I clicked the circular button on my AOC monitor and it displays this message now OSD Locked. I have tried unplugging the monitor and holding the button down(there is only one button to press at its center) for 30-60 seconds to try resetting it, plugged it back in and still nothing changes. Still OSD locked. If I turn off and restart my PC it goes back to black screen, I enter my pin and the desktop comes up still OSD locked. I have no idea how to solve this let alone attempt doing anything as i... Read more

Answer:WIndows Anniversary update and now OSD locked!!!

UPDATE:: I was able to take care of the OSD lock. However my desktop still remains as it is, and still no mouse or any other function.

I have a Thinkpad X61 duo core 7673CCU and have been using Windows 10 Pro without any problem until a recent Windows update after it kept crashing with error stopcode netwlv32sys "Driver iqrl less or equal". It says my drivers are updated and I also ran a memory diagnostic test and sfc /scannow with no errors. A Microsoft agent support said rolling back to 1511 version instead of 1607 Anniversary might help so they ran a media creation tool but after verifying the download the option to keep my files was greyed out saying I might have an 'unsupported version'. Then I lost the agent. Would appreciate any suggestions on how to go back to before the update was installed or how else to fix the crashes? Any manual Lenovo drivers that would work even if they aren't meant for x61? On system recovery it says I cannot go back to an old build because 10 days have passed. On the event log under the crash it says 'bug check 0x000000d1 (0x935ac3c0, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x92c8096c). 'Thank you.

I was talking with my friend and she told me to up update my laptop to the the Anniversary update. But, when I go into my update settings, it tells me that Windows is up to date, and I can confirm that I don't already have the Anniversary update. I did perform the "check for updates" option but it still came with the same result.

I tried searching online but there was no luck. Hoping an expert could help me solve why my laptop is not letting be update.

Answer:Windows is up to date, but I don't have the Anniversary Update

I think Microsoft were gradually upgrading computers in phases, rather than all at once, so perhaps they haven't enabled yours yet. That said, they were supposed to be doing new hardware, and I notice my really old laptop (upgraded all the way from XP bit-by-bit) updated itself when I switched it on this week.

You can force it to upgrade if you like - see this tutorial: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...tallation.html
Step 4 links to the Microsoft website which contains a link to start the upgrade; alternatively you can download the ISO installer using later steps in that tutorial.

A word of caution - if Microsoft haven't enabled your machine yet, there may be good reason.
If you want to upgrade yourself I would take the opportunity to make a backup image (I use Macrium Reflect but other tools are available) before starting an upgrade.

You should still be getting security patches and updates and if I'm honest there isn't much in the Anniversary Update which makes it a 'must have' for me, so the other option is to wait a little longer.

Hello, I hope someone can advise on a fix. My system worked fine with windows 10 until after the anniversary upgrade to 1607. My system intermittently stops working (screen freezes and no apps open or close for about a minute or two then continues working fine again for a period. I have tried a complete clean and load from the ISO but it has the same effect. there is no other drivers or software loaded other then Windows. Nothing is flagged in the device manager and I tried disabling all start-up programs and disabled Antivirus and firewall 'but this too did nit fix the issue.

windows 10 anniversary update started automatically.  Afters 3 hours waiting and 3 times reboot, the system freezes.  The blue windows flag appears. But no login-screen.  Boot in safe-mode is not possoblie because the F8-key does not work.  Go back to previous version is also not possible because i can not choose that.  The Z420 has SSD and the data is on a separate HDD-partition.  I found out on Microsoft forums that ,with this configuration , there are  lots of problems. I tried to boot with bootabele USB with the Windows AU update on it.  Than i can only choose for clean installation.  That is not what i am looking for.  Any other suggestions to solve this problem?

Hi everyone Ever since the Anniversary Update I have about 50% chance to have working audio when I boot up my laptop. So half the time it says that no audio device is installed, and only a reboot can fix it (but doesn't fix it every time). The built-in troubleshooter doesn't do anything. I've updated my Conexant ISST audio drivers multiple times, but that doesn't work either even though it definitely seems to be a driver issue. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks!

Hi guys,

I am curious - I have on both my business laptop windows 10 with the anneversery update and on my home laptop as well.

I am curious, which has the least foot print?

My home laptop pro version seems to take roughly 18GB in space. On my business laptop, there is 9.8GB of space needed by windows (Enterprise edition).

Which windows version takes the least space, or is that related?

Answer:Anniversary update footprint, windows 10 pro

Hi, what exactly are you looking at- just the Windows folder? Or more?
FWIW, my Windows folder is 13Gb disk space, 18Gb in size.

There's also a hidden Drivers folder of about 4Gb on C:

Maybe we can use this as an index of issues to expect...

Answer:windows 10 anniversary update issues

System Image fails, as it loses your external hard drive. This happens in Windows & inWindows 10's Windows 7 Backup during the system image creation.
Funny part is the drive shows up in This PC, Device Manager and File Explorer and works perfectly fine.
This is after a clean install of Windows 10 Creators Update the day before.

My audio worked fine until last week when the wonderful folks at MS decided it was time my computer upgraded to the anniversary edition.  Since then I have about 10% the volume.   What I have tried: 1. Maxed out ALL settings for volume everywhere.2. Updated drivers.3. Uninstalled and re-installed drivers.4. Tried the generic drivers from MS.5. Tried downloading and re-installind the BEATS application... which failed as it said my hardware didn't support it (though I seem to recall having beats before?!) HELP!   The volume is low (maybe 10%) everywhere... videos... applications... games... etc... HELP!

Some days ago Windows Update tried to do the Anniversary Update on my Win 10 Pro 64bit system. The update failed with an error message that said "We couldn't update the system reserved partition". I manually retried the update a couple times with the same error message. The error messages do not include an error code.
After that Windows Update said my device was up to date with no updates available. Hmmmmm.....

And then yesterday an update appeared for the Windows version I was running and now winver shows V 1511 build 10586.545.

Did Windows Update give up on trying to do the Anniversary Update?

As you may have heard, Windows 10 Anniversary Update (AU) has been released and is supposed to fix many issues and bring enhancements. However, with it comes some very serious bugs and flaws as well as incompatibilities with some software and hardware. A couple of these are:
BSOD when installing the AU when running Avast - LINK
Older hardware are incompatible with the new update
Some software can't run in the new update
The AU will fail with one of many error codes. Most common one is 0x80070057
We advise against updating until these issues have been sorted out. For those on W10 Home, this guide will help you disable W10 updates. For those on W10 Pro and higher, this guide would be the one for you.

Not happy about the stuff you have to go thru to disable edge either LOL. Anyways, I can google it. I just thought it might be nice to have directions here for those theat may want to disable. Answer:Windows 10 Anniversary Update Available August 2

It's free, some changes: just search the internet for the many articles e.g.
Some bugs are fixed, 1 introduced (left justified text in explorer under medium, large icons- I have a workaround that works for me).
Some settings are reset - e.g. autoplay, system restore...
The start menu is changed and my tiles vanished.

You can get the iso and upgrade manually (see Tutorial section) or wait for the update.. having the iso is useful for
- in place upgrade repair
- upgrading multiple PCs
- booting your PC when unbootable if you create a bootable medium from it

In December 2015, I upgraded the OS on my HP 8300 Elite (specs below) from Windows 7 to Windows 10 courtesy of Microsoft's free offer. The new OS worked well except it wouldn't shut down after use. After I looked around on the Internet and got some good advice in this forum, I did a clean install and W10 has worked well - until the Anniversary Update (AU) downloaded and tried to install.

The first time, my computer ran for 24 hours showing a slowly rotating circle on screen. I shut the system down and re-started it using the power button. I got a "Trying to retrieve the installation" message and the slowly rotating circle. After a few hours, I shut down and re-started again and received a message to the effect of "Reverting to the previous system." A few minutes later, my Windows 10 desk top appeared and all my programs still worked well.

One of the replies to my original posts pointed out that my system isn't supported in Windows 10 so I'm wondering if that could be the issue now with the AU. If that's the case, would a clean install help this time? If not, how can I remove the downloaded but uninstalled AU?

Thanks, in advance, for any advice about this issue.

Personally, I would do a clean install of Windows 10 Pro (1607 build 14393) 64-bit - which is Windows 10 with the anniversary update.

I always do a clean install instead of doing an upgrade install from Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit, and it saves a lot of time and problems.

Hi Everyone! Thank you for taking time to read my post.
I am currently using a Dell Inspiron Mini Desktop and has minimum hardware. I purchased this over Black Friday 2015. Currently, I only have about 28 GB usable SSD HD space. I want to update to the recently released Windows 10 Anniversary Update. I am currently using Windows 10. Due to space limitations in my current system, it will not allow me to install the update. It is asking for 20 GB free space.
I have tried to delete as much programs and files but still lack the 20 GB required to successfully update to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
Is there any other solution to this issue without the need to upgrade storage?
Thanks for your help!

Apologies if this problem has been addressed before.

On Sunday my laptop (bought new in May of this year) running Windows 10 Home 64 bit updated via Windows Updates to the Anniversary Update.
All seemed to go well but now my CPU is running at almost 100% all the time. From the searching I have done on the Internet I see I am far from being alone in experiencing this problem.
I am reasonably competent on computers for day to day stuff but this is a bit more technical for me. However I 'think' I may have found the culprit for this CPU problem but I don't know what to do about it and would appreciate help if anyone here knows how to fix this.
Looking in the Task Manager I see that there are 5 instances of the Windows host process (Rundll32) running in the background each using approximately 15% of my CPU which adding them all up is a fair chunk of my CPU. What are these processes and do I need them etc; etc; How can I get them to 'back off' so to speak and give me back my CPU.

Sorry if I am not expressing myself very well but hope you understand.

Answer:CPU problem after Anniversary Update on Windows 10

Hi, sorry to hear of your difficulty. Some posts here related, not so many.

Here's one I found of my very earliest days with Win 10 which coincidentally may relate:
Solved CEIP - rundll32.exe high CPU use in Win 10? - Windows 10 Forums

If you are having difficulty controlling a rogue process gobbling CPU resources, try this unusual program, just as a temporary measure so you can use your PC and not run hot:
BES, Battle Encoder Shirase 1.6.2 (stable) 1.7.0-alpha: Controls Per-Process CPU Usage
It still works...

It could help if you can post a screenshot of your task manager showing processes with highest CPU use at the top, and identify what rundll32 is doing (see the first URL). You can then do a search using that.

I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to this. Many are calling this an 'update', whereas a few are mentioning 'upgrade'.

My understanding is that as an 'Update', we have no choice but to install it when released. i.e its just a normal Windows update.

If it is an 'Upgrade', then Pro and Enterprise users can defer that.

Which is it please

Answer:Windows Anniversary. Is it an Update or an Upgrade ?

It will be the latest Build of Windows 10, call it what you will. It will be offered through Windows Update, if you have Updates scheduled to automatically download, it will download and install it for you.

When trying to do the update I am told that my version is 10586 and that I need to be at 14393. I tell it to go ahead and do the update and it gets to 2% and then it tells me something went wrong and gives me error code 0x80070005.

Answer:Windows 10 anniversary update won't install

I know this is odd, but I saw this on another site and it has worked for me on 2 computers so far. Click on the anniversary update, let it check your system and then let it download the update. As soon as it starts to update, disconnect the wireless or LAN. It was able to update after this. Once it got past this section, I connected to the wireless again. About to do this with my 3rd computer. None were able to update before.

I'm help someone with a laptop problem. When she booted up Windows 10, you would get the spinning circle indicating it is booting up. Since a week or so this would be followed by a completely black screen for about 2 minutes after which the login screen appeared. Besides the black screen, there were no other problems she was aware of.I noticed that the anniversary update of Windows 10 wasn't installed yet, and I was hoping that doing so would solve the booting problem. Since "check for updates" didn't return the anniversary update, I downloaded the upgrade exe file and started the process. It seems to freeze at 32% of installation and there are black blocks on the left and right. See screenshot: http://tinypic.com/r/2vht742/9.The screen has been like this for over 2 hours now. Any ideas what I should do?

I am currently running a desktop HP p7-1070t with 6GB  of memory and I5 Core i5 Processor.  It had Windows 7 preinstalled with this desktop.  Since Aug 2015 to present, I have been using Windows 10 Professional Version without any problems what so ever with the free upgrade to Windows 10. As of yesterday 8/02/16, I upgraded to Windows Anniversary Update manually online.  Everything went extremely well with the download and installation.  However after the installation, the computer restarted on its own and the screen turned black but I noticed there was a circular motion with white dots.  I thought it was still running and processing. I left it and check on it 5 hours later and it was still a black screen and a circular motion with white dots was still running.  I had a feeling something was wrong.  I could not upgrade to Windows 10 anniversary update. Someone told me it is because of my graphics card driver  is not compatible or supported with the anniversary update version.  I don't know why but I had to revert my computer back to Windows 10 prior to the anniversary update in order for it to work.  Has anyone have problems with this desktop computer and upgrading to the annivesary update.  Not sure what to do. The graphics card from the device manager says it is a Intel HD graphics.
