I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, When I am trying to launch any application from Oracle VM Virtualbox, I am seeing error "VT-x or AMD-v is not available". When I tried to search for this error, I found out that this occurs if virtualization is not enabled or not supported. Since this is no so old product, I believe this has support for virtualization but may be disabled. How to enable this ? How do I access the BIOS settings ? While powering on this laptop, I don't find any way by which I can enter the BIOS settings.. Please guide.

Answer:enabling agp in bios

Hi Playbub
'input not supported' would normally indicate that either the resolution or the frequensy that you have set for the card are not supported by the monitor, you can check this by starting in safe mode or in vga mode, in these modes you computer will start with the ms default drivers and settings

Apparently I'm only running my USB 1 ports because I keep getting these "This USB device can perform faster, click here to find a high speed USB 2.0 port" messages.

After an extensive search I've come across this, http://www.techsupportforum.com/har...p4s533-x-how-upgrade-usb-1-0-ports-2-0-a.html
Apparently this link solved someones problem, it says I need to go into BIOS and enable S1, or enabling the USB 2 somehow. But I can't seem to locate where to enable S1 or any other High Speed USB. How should I go about locating this? Your guidance would mean so very much. Thank you.

Answer:Enabling USB 2.0 in BIOS

John - I'm not familiar with your motherboard or BIOS, however my first suggestion would be to head over to the ASUS website (http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx) and download updated drivers. There's an update under the Utilities category called "Microsoft KB817900 USB fail to enter S3 patch file for Windows XP." Try that.

I would also make sure that your BIOS is the most recent version.

Let us know if that corrected the issue.

Despite the warnings, I tried enabling RAID in BIOS (Intel chipset) and almost fried my Win 7 installation. So, I now believe for myself that the only way to enable RAID is to also reinstall Windows 7.

Does anyone know whether a data partition on the Windows boot drive would be affected?

Are there any clear advantages to RAID in a one-drive system? (I did not see a way to enable NCQ).

Answer:Enabling RAID in BIOS

I looked into old RAID technology because of the many problems it is giving with Win7 installations. It can require reformatting the drives with loss of data to set up RAID.

It also needs two drives to be RAID, I believe, as it is redundant array.

RAID is completely redundant IMO with drive imaging now even built into Windows 7. Best to set up modern AHCI config of your SATA controllers.

Just load the AHCI drivers from your mobo CD/Downloads page into the installer.

I got an emachines computer last year, and it came with onboard video. I bought a PCI card, and it worked just fine. I was looking for an upgrade, so I got a new AGP card. The computer will not pick up the card (and yes, it has an AGP slot), and nowhere in the BIOS can you enable AGP. Looking for a new BIOS seems to lead me in circles from site to site...and I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to messing with the BIOS.

I can hopefully give more information if needed...but at this point I don't really know what to post to help anyone.

Chipset : Intel i845GE
Mainboard : First International Computer, Inc. (VG33)

BIOS
Manufacturer : Phoenix Technologies, LTD
Version : IEX423EM
Date : 27 May 2004

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Answer:Help enabling AGP with a very limited BIOS.

In most modern mobos, just putting in that AGPcard automatically disables the onboard video.
Worth a shot. If that does not work, see if there is a jumper on the motherboard to disable onboard video.
Question: how did you get the PCIcard to work? Try the same for AGP.

I ordered Thinkpad p70 with RAID 1 HDD's and planned on adding aftermarket m.2 drives (Toshiba OCZ RD400) to setup an m.2 SSD RAID 1 array... First machine they sent failed to recognize m.2 drives.  Now I have a replacement machine with BIOS version 2.08 that will recognize my m.2 drives without a problem, as long as the RAID option in the BIOS is disabled.  As soon as I enable it, it only recognizes the SATA drives and the m.2 drives disappear.  It's strange that when you select m.2 SSD RAID it will only recognize SATA attached drives and allow you to set up a "m.2 SSD" RAID volume with those drives... Very disappointed I can not setup a hardware RAID array with m.2 drives.  Even more disappointed with phone support... calling in is a nightmare where they just pass you back a forth between warranty (which only deals with hardware issues) and premium software support (which says they 'don't help with BIOS, only things inside Windows').   Seems like a BIOS bug or some kind of hardware whitelisting... Does anyone else have a similar issue? I'd appreciate any insight on the matter.

Hi, We have a script using the HP BiOS Utility to change the vtx setting but we are currently experiencing problems. This script has been developped by a 3rd party and its been succesfully tested on multiple HP Models. In our environment, we are using the following HP workstations:HP Compaq 8100 Elite SFFHP Compaq 8200 Elite SFFHP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF By default, our BIOS doesn't have any password, the script will run the HP BIOS Utility with admin privilege, add a temporary password, enable the Vtx setting and remove the password. On the next reboot, we will run our software that needs vtx enable but the program will not see  that vtx is enable. If we enter the BIOS manually,  the Vtx setting will be enable, the only way that the software will recognize that vtx is enable is if we do another change to the BIOS and save that change.  It seems like Windows is not seeing the change that the BIOS utility did.  The intriging part is that on some machines, the script will work and the software will see the change. We have run the script numerous times, on multiple machines and on our different models but we can determine any patern and identify why it sometimes work. I was wondering if this is a known issue and if anyone already encoutered this. Thank you,

when i tried to safe mode it's stuck at classPNP.sys and start windows normally is stuck at the windows logo and seriously i need help to get to bios so i can change the boot sequence to put the installation or repair disc

Answer:Enabling GUI Boot - Entering BIOS

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Are you able to access the Advanced Boot Options by pressing the F8 key at startup? It should list the following options:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable low-resolution video (640 x 480)
Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)
Directory Services Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement
Start Windows Normally
I'd be inclined to go for Last Known Good Configuration first.

I have picked up a fairly old PC with an Intel desktop mainboard and the bios is not accessible with the usual "delete" at boot up . I believe there is a switch on the board that i need to activate. I cannot find one - please does anyone know what i should be looking for and where about it might be positioned. Thx for any help.

Answer:Enabling BIOS with Intel Mobo

It might as well be insert or F2 key that you have to press. The manual will help.

I really doubt th switch on the mobo thing. It would be ridiculous to force people to open up their computers (voiding the warranty) to change a BIOS setting.

A neat trick is to boot the computer without the keyboard to make the BIOS display an error message and tell you what key to press to get into setup.

I just bought a refurb Dell XPS 420 w/ Q9300, running Vista Home Premium x64 and downloaded/installed an activated version of Win 7 Ult x64 on an 80GB SSD [Sata1] I bought for it; dual booted w/ Vista x64 on old hard drive [Sata0].

W7 x64 was running stable and instantly fast, I wanted to enable RAID0 on the old hard drive [Sata0] and another new hard drive [Sata2]

I entered Intel Maxtrix Storage Manager (Ctrl-I), creating a RAID0 volume on [Sata0] and [Sata2].

After reboot, it says "No boot device available" after BOIS screen.

My subsequent boot attempts include (roughly in order):
1. disable RAID0 volume, boot to [Sata1]
2. disable [Sata0] and [Sata2], boot to [Sata1]
3. disable [Sata1], boot to CD/DVD-drive (W7 install/boot)
4. disable CD/DVD-drive, boot to USB flash (W7 install/boot)

I have done some digging around and cannot seem to find a solution. I have the use of my notebook (w/ broken DVD burner, still reads) running Win7 Ult x86 so apparently I cannot make my USB flash drive x64 bootable from what I've read. I also have 2-USB hard drives (80/250GB) and an eSata 2x docking station available, but no eSata on notebook.

Hope I gave enough info for someone to come up with an easy fix. If I could boot to the W7 x64 install DVD that I made with the non-booting PC, I would have just done a clean install by now, but it refuses to boot to the CD/DVD drive. It actually wouldn't even boot to DVD to install W7 x64 in the first place, I had to... Read more

Both are enabled.Still the HAXM-Installer fails to find the VT-x-Option to be enabled. Is this a Windows 8.1 "Bug" or am I missing something here?Greetings and thanks for your help.

Answer:T530 BIOS Option for enabling VT-x not avalible

Hi,

I  believe VT-x and Intel Virtualization Technology are the same thing.

Do you have hyper-v installed/enabled?  That will mask VT-x for other virtualization software.

One other possibility: after enabling VT-x you must do a full power-off power-on reboot before the OS and applications can see it as enabled.

I just got an HP h8-1237c, which has an i5-2320 processor. I thought it was a good move, but I need to run other copies of windows in VirtualBox, which I can do fine in my old ASUS i5 computer. This one tells me I can't because I can't enable VT-x, as there's no place on the bios to do this. HP tech support was not helpful at all, and I even had to define virtualization to the tech.

Is there a way around this so I can install and run a 64 bit OS on this new PC, such as Windows 7, 64bit, or even 64 bit linux?

Thanks for the guidance in advance.

Hello,I have a Lenovo G475 laptop and I would like to know how to enable the (U)EFI mode in the BIOS menu and is it possible to access advanced features?I want to UEFI boot an operating system.InsydeH2OBIOS Version: 41CN24WW(V2.00)EC Version:   41EC24WW(V2.00)Thank you.

Answer:UEFI Booting/ Enabling BIOS Features

hi lks1981,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

The Lenovo G475 only have the old Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) and doesn't have a UEFI as an additional option. Until such time Lenovo allows flashing of the BIOS to convert it to UEFI, you can't yet enable this option.

If you want to transform the BIOS to UEFI (to allow booting from HDD's larger than 2TB and up to 128 partitions or mix MBR with GPT type partitions) , you can try to use Developer's UEFI Environment (DUET), you can find more info here - http://tinyurl.com/d9owxqr

Hope this helps.

Hi - I bought a Samsung 840 Pro and installed with my W8 upgrade - clean install.  One reason I bought it was the Encryption feature built into the 840 Pro.  However, being unfamiliar with this feature, and not seeing anything in the documentation or in the Samsung Magician optimization software I called Samsung .  They said I would enable the data encryption feature through my BIOS. I looked in the X220 BIOS set up and discussed with him the entry under Security/Password entitled:  Hard Disk 1 password (Enable/Disable).  He said probably by enabling the Hard Disk 1 password feature - that this would then enable the resident encryption feature built into the SSD.  The X220 user manual (p. 92) says if this feature is enabled that you will have to enter the password when you boot your computer.  I don't know if this is just the first time you boot or if it will be every time. Anyway - wanting to see if anyone else has gone through the effort to enable SSD encryption feature of the Samsung 840 Pro or any other SSD with its own encryption.  Also - does anyone know how to verify if the disk is encrypted once it is supposedly enabled?   Kent

Answer:Enabling SSD Encryption in BIOS for Samsung 840 Pro or SSDs

Hey there Kent1968,

Unfortunately I cannot shed much light on Samsung 840 Pro, but I can tell you that by enabling the Hard Disk Password you will be required to enter the password after every time the machine is completely powered off. I have seen in various forums that Hardware encryption is enabled by assigning a "HDD Password" in the bios with the Samsung 840 Pro SSD, but I have not been able to confirm. I hope that this gives some guidance to what you are looking to accomplish. Good luck!

Hello,

I have purchased a new video card and I think I know what to do when it arrives... just not sure about the steps.

Ok, so I'm currently using onboard video. I was told that all I need to do is stick it in the PCI-E x16 slot and plug the power cable into the video card -- then enable it in BIOS.

How exactly do I enable it in BIOS? And do I need to disable the onboard video somehow?
Step by step instructions would be very helpful.

Hi !
According to hardware specifications of my laptop (Dell precision 7510), it should have 4 processors, but it looks like it has only two of them enabled. Oh, well, I've noticed that there exists in bios option where you can enable more processors (4 actually), and they work ok until laptop is rebooted.
After reboot default bios setting returns back (2 cpu's) and OS again is running slowly.
When saving in bios it's possible to save with "Save as custom" checkbox enabled or disabled - that option does not have any affection to cpu's enabling - wondering if it works at all.
There is also problem with Windows 7 / hibernate - it does not always work correctly - problem occurs randomly, so there is approximately 10% change that hibernate will not recover correctly.
Have anyone seen similar problems ?

Hello, I have recently purchased Precision 3510 laptops with the intention of using them for research on Intel's new Software Guard Extensions (SGX). These laptops come with the required CPUs that support these new CPU instructions and (we thought) the required BIOS support as well.
In the BIOS for the laptops, there is an option for enabling SGX, but when enabled we are not able to install any of the official Intel SDKs on Windows OR Linux. Additionally, we ran an SGX test program that would dynamically detect the SGX features using CPUID and Machine Specific Registers (MSRs). It successfully detected the SGX hardware support (i.e. the SGX instructions are physically on the CPU chip), but it showed that the BIOS flags controlling the startup of SGX were not enabled (possible SGX specific MSRs have not been set). The specific CPU flag that needs to be set is described here: https://github.com/ayeks/SGX-hardware . Here is a quote from that page that describes what is needed for SGX to work, "The CPU and the motherboard BIOS must support SGX. SGX is turned off by default and must enabled via MSR.IA32_Feature_Control.SGX_Enable. Only the BIOS can make changes to the IA32_Feature_Control".
For reference, we are using the latest BIOS version for our model - version A07. Also, the CPU we have is the Intel Core i5 - 6300HQ CPU @ 2.3GHz.
I hope we can resolve this issue in a timely manner as we are not able to use these laptops for their intended purpose... Read more

Hello everyone, I made the choice (mistake now) to enable Secure Boot a while back on my ThinkPad E550 and eventually installed Linux Mint on the system. I was aware Secure Boot was on, and during the install Ubuntu fussed at me about it. I figured "Well fine, I'll just turn it off and we won't deal with it," however that wasn't the case. When I went back to try and access the BIOS, I found that I no longer saw the ThinkPad Splash screen with "Press Enter to interrupt normal startup", but instead small white text in the top left corner with the "Press Enter to..." I found that odd, but figured it'd be fine. I pressed Enter, and the laptop made a beep as it should, however BIOS will not come up. It will sit on the same black screen ("Press Enter...") for literally hours. I even thought it might be scanning the system for various hardware changes and left it like that just in case. When I checked it again -- nada. The only way I have the system running now is because I had went ahead and installed Linux Mint. I can no longer boot from a flash drive, access BIOS, etc. If anything happens to this HDD or laptop, it will literally be a paperweight. Is there any way to reflash BIOS directly from Linux with Secure Boot on, or am I just a bit screwed here? Thanks much in advance. (Also! System is not dual-booted with Windows. It is a Linux only machine.)

Answer:Unable to access BIOS after enabling Secure Boot

Does F1 not work? That gets into the settings for me when Secure Boot is enabled (on other TP).

Install the latest bios update ( 1.08.1.04 ) and enable "F1-F12 as Primary Function" is bios. After doing that, the "Home" / "End", "Ins", "Del", "PgUp", "PgDw" keys are screwed up. "End", for example, functions as delete. Using Windows 8.1 on latest generation X1 Carbon. If this is a general fault in the latest bios software, how can this not have been discovered during beta testing ? From years of experience with X1 Carbons, I'm wondering whether Lenovo even *has* QC for the X1s. So many serious ( even destructive ) bugs have made it into official bios updates through the years.

I upgraded the BIOS on my T440s to version 2.34 today.  I used the BIOS function to set F1-F12 as the Primary Function.  After enablling that setting, I am not able to log into Windows 7 using the laptop keyboard by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL.  I have to either attach a USB keyboard to the laptop or disable the set F1-F12 as the Primary Function to be able to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to log into my laptop. Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a work around?  Or is this a bug that Lenovo needs to resolve? Can I downgrade my BIOS to version 2.33 without causing any issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Answer:T440s - Unable to log into Windows 7 after enabling "F1-F12 as Primary" setting in BIOS v2.34

We are aware of this bug and the next version of BIOS should fix it, it should be released by the end of August.  Until then, the only work-around is to disable that BIOS setting about enable F1-F12 as primary.

Answer:enabling virtualization on X201 tablet with the december bios update

Hello and welcome,

Have you done a cold reboot (power off, then on) since setting VT on?  IIRC, some machines require that before the VT setting becomes visible to the virtualization software.

[edit] I just rememberd a previous thread about this sort of thing.  If VT was already enabled from the factory, it may be necessary to first turn it off, then back on, with full power cycles in between.

I have a Toshiba L840/020 (PSK8LA-020007) notebook. I recently installed an Intel 330 Series SSD and Windows 8 Pro RTM 6.2.9200 MSDNAA on it and enabled Fast boot option in the BIOS (Boot speed > Fast).

Answer:Satellite L840/020 - Cannot enter BIOS after enabling fast boot option

Hi

Try firstly INS button and then F2 button.

Then you should be able to access the BIOS? I recommend disabling the fast boot in the BIOS if you could successfully enter the BIOS.

Regarding the BIOS update.
I checked the Toshiba AU driver page and it seems that the BIOS v6.20 is the same like for Win 7.
I think that the BIOS update should be done running the Toshiba preinstalled system since Win 8 is not officially on the market yet and from my knowledge there are some big restrictions updating the BIOS running Win 8

I foolishly enabled the options in the BIOS system configuration - Drive tab trying to make an external eSATA cable recognised my spare hard drive.
How the Dell E6230 will not boot and will not POST.
I am unable to access the BIOS to reset to default or to disable the SATA 4/5 toggles.
Is there any way to

1. Restore the default BIOS settings
or
2. Flash the BIOS from a USB or CD to get the computer to reboot.
I have discovered that the BIOS is doing something to the RAM modules
pressing FN+POWER cause the Battery LED to flash white. All other LED are BLANK
The RAM modules when placed in another E6230 then refuse to work until a memory test is carried out to wipe them!
This would go against everything I know about RAM modules not retaining information after powering off but this is what I found.
Thanks in advance.

Under the Virtualization Support bios menu I have the following options enabled:+Enable Intel Virtualization Technology+Enable VT for Direct I/O But when I enable Trusted Execution, the system will reboot, pass the POST screen, immediately restart, and then pass the POST screen again and lock at the Intel Storage Matrix screen. Is this the expected behavior with this bios option enabled, or is it a bios problem?

Answer:Latitude E6500 - Enabling Trusted Execution in bios causes boot failure.

What does it say the default factory setting is for that option on or off? If it says off keep it off and stop trying to mess with things you dont fully understand untill you read about bios options what they do and if the laptop benefits or supports such active functions.

Hi,
I bought a backlit keyboard for my latitude 6420 which was only equiped with a non backlit model at the time I got it.
When hitting Fn + >, nothing happens. I read many things on the web and it looks like we have to go into the BIOS and enable the backlit. I've been told that I should find the menu under System configuration and Keyboard Illumination but I don't have this menu...
I also had a look and the hot keys and don't have the ones related to the backlit keyboard... Looking at the Control Panel, Keyboard Properties, I don't have the Backlight tab, "Keyboard Brightness".Does someone know how I can enable my backlit keyboard and have it detected as such?
Prior buying the backlit keyboard, I got in touch with the Dell support to make sure I can upgrade my notebook with a backlit model without facing compatibility issues. They told me that I just needed to order the backlit model as a spare part and it will work... but it doesn't...
Does somebody know how I can get the backlit keyboard working or is it just a bad luck and it will never work? thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:Missing BIOS activation menu for enabling backlit keyboard on latitude e6420

Not sure if this question has been answered but, while I came here looking for the answer I accidentally figured it out on my latitude e6410, hit the function key and the right arrow, it was lumped there with the scree brightness.

Hi,Looking at fitting an SSD which needs AHCI.  So I looked on microsoft and saw registry edit which I've done. Then I  changed to AHCI in BIOS and get BSOD so set it back and need some advice please : Also I see that there are problems with Smsung Pro, does anyone have problems with Samsung evo ?  Does anyone know why mSATA is not recommended for boot disk and only for cache ? thanks

Solved!

Answer:Windows Bluescreen after enabling AHCI in System Bios not resolved by making registry change

I found out the solution to this. Simply making the registry change and booting having changed BIOS to AHCI does not cause Windows to install the correct driver..  It simply crashes with BSOD in Windows 7. The steps are to download the correct driver for AHCI and extract into a folder.  Make advised  registry edit for AHCI. Go into hardware manager and install that driver on to SATA controller. (You should override the Windows warning that it may cause problems). Now reboot and make BIOS change for AHCI.  It will now boot and the driver will be fully installed by windows correctly.

hello, 2 days ago my laptop was working fine but when i turned it on yesterday it would not load up all it would do is power on a blank screen and the caps lock would flash twice and stop and flash twice again. i looked it up and saw that it was a "bios" problem and to manually fix it was to hold down the windows + b key and turned it on and needles to say it didnt work. i even try to reset it by taking out the battery and holding down the power button to see if that'll help and nope. today i look online to see if theres a way i can fix it but so far all i see is to take it apart to look at the fan or some part near the fan. to be honest i don't feel comfortable taking apart my laptop at all  (i dont mind doing the programing and stuff though) and i was wondering if theres something else i can do to get this problem fixed asap.please help and thank you

I got a big problem. A friend asked me to update his OS on a HP Pavilion 900MHZ desktop. So i did. He also asked to upgrade his memory from from 256mb to 512mb. So i tried. He has the 168pin Sdram DIMM. One stick worked fine. But when I put in the second stick it errors. "bios not acpi compliant"

So i looked up the error. First i found that i can just turn off the acpi in cmos and it will work. No option in cmos. Then I found to redo the install and at the setup screen hit F7 instead of F6. Did not work. Blue screen during install. Also found that i need to update the bios. Went to HP site. NOthing there. Went to motherboard site. Its an asus k7m board. Got the updated bios. Got the flash program. No luck. Says bios/chipset not found. CAnnot flash the bios. Thing is i am stuck. Got the memory from a local computer shop. He had to special order it since its so old. He will not take it back. $70. I need to flash this bios.

Anybody know where i can find a flash that will upgrade the bios or a website to help me with this?

The memory stick is good. I can put either one in and it works fine, just not both. Very frustrated.

Thanks

Answer:HP Pavilion Bios UPdate

What model Pavillion is it? Many times though you have an asus mobo the Bios has been customized for HP to work with it. And the motherboard may also not be a standard asus K7m motherboard, being a custom setup for HP.

I can't figure out how to get into the bios of my HP Pavilion 500-314. When I boot the pc there is no screen that indicates what key I press to boot into bios, it just automatically goes into the HP loading screen.

Answer:How to boot up into the BIOS of HP Pavilion 500-314

Hi: Normally, you can tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP splash screen to get a menu of options. From that list, select the F10 boot options menu. If that doesn't work, then see if you can get into the BIOS using the method described at the link below. Watch the video.  All brand PC's with W8.1 have this feature. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZcYbxOcPV0 If that doesn't work, unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions to offer.

Hello HP-team! I've got "hp pavilion 23 aio pc", CZC240BKNV, model 23-b000ec, which doesn't boot. No screen, no POST-sounds. 1. I downloaded sp67096, 70065 and 70066, copied the BIOS to the USB-Flash and tried to recover it via Win+B (+Power) keys combination, but unsuccessfully: no any result. 2. I tried to read data from Windond W25Q64 Flash memory using the external SPI-programmer, connected to ROM-RECOVERY connector, but unsuccessfully also. 3. I removed mentioned W25Q64 memory from the PCB, soldered the wires to its pins and connected directly to programmer, but still w/o results. Thus I decided W25Q64 got NG and has to be replaced. 4. I found S25FL165K (manufacturer is Spansion), soldered it onto PCB and flashed via ROM-RECOVERY connector using the external SPI-programmer. I tried to burn LEE_816.ROM (from sp67096), LIN_8011.BIN (from sp70065) and LEE_817.ROM (fro)sp70066). The flashing process "per se" finished successfully always, but PC doesn't start as well. After I turn it on, it restarts only after some seconds. The screen is black, no any sound. So may the problem be in S25FL165K compatibility? It has same protocol, capacity, but there are also some differences, which might be significant. So my questions are: a). Is S25FL165K ( Spansion) compartible with my PCB? Or do I have to use Windond W25Q64 exactly? Or something different? b). As I mentioned, I tried to flash *.rom or *.bin files from sp*****.exe-packages, downl... Read more

What are you trying to do, exactly? Flashing your BIOS is a bad idea for a lot of reasons. I don't recommend it unless there is a critical fix for something that doesn't work properly.

Hi Guys-n-Gals
I have an HP Pavilion DV9500 Laptop
I have Ubuntu Linux on a Samsung HM500JJ 500Gb HDD in bay one, boots with
no problems at all.
I have Windows XP PRO SP3 preinstalled on a WD1600BEVS 160Gb hdd in bay two, drive not seen in BIOS so I do not have a choice to boot from it.
Ubuntu Linux still boots fine no problems.
Second HDD Win XP is seen by Ubuntu Linux and I can access folders on the drive
with no problems, so nothing wrong with drive or OS.
If I take out the drives and put the WD160 drive in bay one leaving the second bay empty it boots fine into Windows with no problems.
If I take out the WD drive and put it in bay two leaving bay one empty I get no boot, operating system not found.
If I take out the Samsung500 drive and put it in bay two leaving bay one empty I get no boot, operating system not found.
So either disk will boot fine when in drive bay one.
Neither disk will boot when in drive bay two.
If both drives are in both bays either way round the drive in the second bay will not show in the BIOS and will not boot
Question? How do I solve this problem, HP as usual are no help.
Thanks in anticipation of any help.

Tomorrow is an extension of today but yesterday is just a memory

Answer:HP Pavilion drive bay two not seen in BIOS

Sounds like it is a mobo issue. "Bay 2" connection is bad.

I purchased this laptop in December with Windows 10 installed. A few weeks ago I started getting a notification in Support Assistant to update the system BIOS.  No matter how many times I run the update the notification persists and the Action Log has never recorded this update as having taken place. After checking with this Forum, it appears that other users have had issues with BIOS updates, and HP Support cautions against updating the System BIOS unless there is a compelling reason to do so. 1. Since I am not having any issues which would compell such an update, should I simply dismiss the notification? 2. If such an update is not advised, why does Support Assistant display its notification? 3. Would dismissing the notification render this Notebook suseptible to security vulnerabilities? 4. The instructions on the HP website for updating theSystem BIOS are considerably more complicated than the procedure launched from Support Assistant. What exactly is this?  The update in Support Assistant is Softpac number SP76353, Version F.19Ap1, Size 8.89MB.

Answer:HP Pavilion BIOS Update

Hi @LAB7, Thank you for posting at HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that you have some questions about updating the BIOS. I agreed that if there is no problem with current system running, it is not necessary to update the BIOS. However, HP support assistant will populate the notification once there is a newer version of the BIOS. You can dismiss the message and it will not cause security problems. There is another way to update the BIOS, by downloading it from HP support page. You can put your product number here on this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers. Select the right OS on the page, it will show the most updated drivers of your model including the BIOS. Hope these could help. Let me know if you need further assistance. If this post helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. Clarification, please! I've been told on this forum that I should upgrade the BIOS for my Pavilion g6-1d21dx to version F.48, which seems to be the latest one available on the product page. However, the BIOS currently on my machine is version F.49. Wouldn't F.49 be newer than F.48? Can anyone explain the discrepancy and tell me if there are any meaningful differences between the two BIOS versions?

Read more

Hi, i have this HP Pavilion DV5 laptop which is causing me some problems

I am currently testing two different hard drives with this laptop, and I can confirm that they are working fine.

When I turn the laptop on, the HP logo shows up a couple seconds later, and I have the option of entering the "startup menu". If i don't enter it, then it proceeds to a black screen around 5 seconds later. While this is happening, the hard drive light goes flashes on and off until the black screen. After that, the hard drive light does not flash any more. The computer is not able to boot properly, and it cannot start Windows.

However, if i enter the startup menu, than I can run diagnostics on the hard drive, and open BIOS.
The hard drive test passes easily, but it is not being recognized on BIOS. I neither can enable or disable the "notebook hard drive" because it is not contained in that list.

I should also add that these hard drives are working fine 100%, because i use them on different Laptops. (HP Pavilion DV4 and Acer Aspire One).

Please help with any suggestions.

Answer:HP Pavilion DV5 Runs BIOS Only

Hi,
Have you installed an operating system on these hard drives? Operating systems can't be transferred and a fresh install is required if you move it from one computer to another. Have you tried booting from a live CD or flash drive?

Answer:HP Pavilion BIOS RECOVERY ,please help

Hi,

I'm not sure that the problem is BIOS related. First, see the link below from HP about troubleshooting/fixing display problems.

I have a HP 550-036 desktop running Win 10.  Last week I received an upgrade notice from the HP tool installed on the computer.  I downloaded and started to install the upgrade.  It went smoothly for a while, then told me it was going to upgrade the BIOS and reboot. It said I would receive a few beeping noises and the monitor would go blank after the reboot.  It prompted me to go ahead with the upgrade and reboot; I accepted. I received a few beeps, and the monitor went blank, but the desktop never booted up. I left it alone for about 9-10 hours - no change.  Now I cannot get it to reboot or go into the bios. I tried the power reset - no change. I tried my system recovery disk - no change. i tried the F10 bios reset - no change.  The system has power; the power lite goes on and off.  I can hear the fan, but i do not hear the disk drive.  I cannot get into the BIOS at all.  What is wrong?

I've tried pressing Esc, F1, F10 but to no avail, I even disabled fast startup to see if that affected the computer but it didn't seem to. Does anyone know what the problem is here and how to fix it? Hello, I have HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC and when I try to enter the BIOS to enable virtualization. it asks me for my adminstrator password, and I am 100% sure that I have never set a password for the BIOS. So, is there any password that can unlock the BIOS or anyway that I can reset the password for this the laptop.I have already tryed " https://bios-pw.org/ " and it didn't work for me.and after three trys it says "System Disabled" and a code that changes in the next three trys.If you want me to indicate my serial number or anything that can help please tell me.

Answer:BIOS password for HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC

Hi, Is your machine the one listed on the link below? https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-15-p200-notebook-pc-series/7486459/model/7835202/ma... If that's correct, it will be generating a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot.  This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc is on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly - see Page 82 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K

HP Support Assistant insists on telling me a BIOS update is required.  I download the installer package only for it to refuse to allow installation as "this bios isn't compatible with your device". I am currently running Insyde F.13   20/11/2013 The support page for my notebook states "We were unable to find any drivers for your product." http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/6529948/model/6661...I find it unlikely that there have been no BIOS updates since 2013, but it's apparent the notebook won't install the BIOS offered by Support Assistant.  Please help!!!

Answer:Pavilion 15-n271ea BIOS update from F.13

If your laptop works fine i would suggest not to make an BIOS update. Try uninstalling the HP Assistant instead
