I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I was just gifted an HP ProBook 455 G3, product number W4E07UT#ABA. I can't find information for it anywhere on the HP site.  I would like to ultimately get access to any manuals and drivers.  I also want to know if this was sold with Win 10 (which is what's on it) or if it was manufactured with Win 7 and has been upgraded.  There are no stickers indicating the Operating System or Processor. Help.

Hi, I have looked on the support site for my laptop to see more info on my DVD writer, specifically: 1) how to check if the writer firmware is upto date2) what speeds it works for different media3) is dual layer e.g. DVD+R DL writing supported? The reason I ask is that I have not been able to burn any DL disks. Cheers

no available firmware update on both 0769 and 0687 serie i don't think it's possible to write dl dvd, but to make sure, can you tell me the dvd rom model?( right click my computer > manage >  device management > dvd ) also, you can check your user guide.

Hi there, I was hoping someone can help me. I have suddenly started having trouble finding files that I want to attach to an email, or upload to my art site. The files I am looking for in the attachment or upload browse lists are not there, but they are in the program folder where I saved them. I dont know what has changed, must be some setting. The files I am looking for are saved in my Paint Shop Pro 7 program in the "Images" folder as jpegs. I have Vista Ultimate, but I have done this many times before while using Vista Ultimate and not had any problems..so I am thinking it is something to do with some setting either in my PSP 7 program or some other setting and not a compatibility issue, although I thought I read they are not compatible, but I know I have been able to do this before. Also something might have been changed with the Windows photo gallery while I was trying to fix it...(aka, yes I was messing around with default stuff) Please help, its driving me crazy and Im wanting to upload my newest painting...finally finished it!

Didn't know how to title this issue...basically, here's the deal: I have a school web site, on [email protected], which has a maximum of 10mb on the site. This is a constant battle trying to keep it under the 10 mgs, with all the photos and whatnot I like to put up there. I was thinking that I still have another three or four sites on my account; why don't I set up one site which is just the images, and link it to the other site. Wouldn't it be transparent? I mean, if I set up a hyperlink on the main site, wouldn't visitors just cruise back and forth at will without any hassle? And that way, I'd have much more space for images.

Please advise...it seems too easy...am I missing something?

I don't think you're missing anything. This is common practice. Most of the images on this page came from another site. Ads almost always do. There's nothing that says that the image links in your html can't load images from elsewhere. The ability to bring many disparate objects from various sources together on one web page is the reason html was designed the way it was.

Sounds like you have a good solution to your problem.

I might have 50 web site tabs and am looking at one of them. All of a sudden, another web site starts with a voice and I can't determine which tab it's on. Trying to listen to two sites (or more) is ridiculous. How can I find the offending web site?

Also, some web sites will present and audio "story" which cannot be paused or stopped (unless you close the page). Is there a way to fix this?

Open Volume Mixer (right click Volume icon in notification area) and mute the whichever you want. The pages with sound will have green volume bar moving up and down.

I have some pretty big events coming up in my personal life coming up over the next twelve months and want to set up a web site for about that duration to keep family and friends up to date with all that's going on with me.

I know a blog sounds ideal but I really need more of a traditional website for this. Thus, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions where I may find a good site to host me.

I want something that's free, or cheap, with a nice short concise URL for my site, (custom if possible), and that has no ads/banners on the site that my visitors have to see. Can be pretty bare bones (don't need any HTML editors built in) but needs to be relatively reliable.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Win 10 ANOTHER MATTER: IT starts some window/PAGE/APP labeled as "INBOX YAHOO" that is a want-to-be email agent.
I DONT WANT the inbox but to send an email which it has no commands to to so.
So, I have to:
copy /cut the address as it did plug it in its TO: box.
Start my browser,
Start Yahoo
Paste the address into Yahoo. then can rock & roll..... LOTS of wasted efforts ..

Have tried to get help from SUPPORT.MICROSOFT.COM" = Useless.

If you used Win 7, had to use a link for an email instead of the "words" ..., "COPY-ABLY ADDRESS" you may know the problem.

Of course, if not a link, you copy/paste yourself, but those "links" are "cute" but not practical for Win 10 they HIDE the actual email address.

Why Win 10 wanted to change that I have no clue as Win 7 does this problem, PERFECT.

I don't know myself (but see below for what I've found for you) how that should work with browser based email, which I only use if I have a problem. I can confirm it works properly with an email client:

There's the hyperlink on the page, and Thunderbird correctly launched with the email address.

You may wish to check how your email client (browser) is specified- and how that protocol is handled.

I've been looking at laptops for the upcoming school year, and I really think I want to get a Y550. Newegg.com has a decently priced model with pretty good specs and a dedicated GPU, which I need because I'm specializing in Video Game Programming at my school. However, after searching for the model number on the support site, I find that this model is like the red-headed stepchild that Lenovo doesn't want to acknowledge. The model number is 41865BU, and you can find the product page here. I just want to know if there will eventually be a support page for this model, because if there's not or I don't hear anything it's going to be a deal-breaker. My last laptop was a Dell, but after the horrible experiences I've had with them I'm never buying any of their products ever again. I'd like to find a competent computer manufacturer for once!

After hours of research I have not been able to find good information regarding where and does someone access their flagged emails. I am a desktop user that uses Gmail with plenty of emails that I cannot find?

I've made a site in FP for hypnotherapist friend which we can rent for 4.99 p m but that price doesn't support FP. Can I still publish and not use any extensions but it'll work ok, or can I publish in FTP?

I'm not entirely sure what your saying, but basically to upload a site using FTP made in Frontpage just save it like you normally would, find the directory you saved it into within your FTP client and upload it using the credentials your web host provided you with.

Odd how this just happened to two separate machine within only a few weeks apart from each other.

My main machine's OS or partition (XP Pro) somehow how became corrupt and started doing that endless boot loop. Went through all sorts of recovery options but finally resorted to reinstalling XP. Well, I built this machine from scratch and now i can't find the drivers that came with the mobo. It's a Foxconn 6150BK8MC-KRSH, and though the site has a few drivers on it, none are listed for the network controller (LAN port). I've been hunting for about two days and can't seem to come up with the driver. Aside from buying a network card, is there anything I can do to get the LAN port up and running again?

Did you already install the chipset drivers? A lot of the time (most of the time even) the chipset has LAN with it.

I am unable to display the complete content of support articles on the Microsoft support site with Firefox. Of course everything looks great under IE.Here's an example...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279765/EN-US/At one time, I did not have any issues looking at support articles with Firefox on the MS support site.Any workarounds for this besides using IE when I am researching problems on MS?

Try installing the IE Tab extension.That way you can view IE within Firefox. Is the only way I can see the entire page of a Micr$oft article.

T520 Optimus HD+ (1600x900) LG screen Starting from the far left of the screen, there's a 2-inch wide vertical strip going from top to bottom, where the colors are faded compared to the rest of the screen.  It's not very noticeable at first glance, but once using the machine for a while you can see it.  It's bothering me a lot so I want to have on-site support change it out. Question:  is it standard practice for on-site support to put a "new" one in, or a refurbished one that's possibly been in someone else's machine?  I ask because with Western Digital, if you send in a new drive you bought, they send you a refurbished (a.k.a "used" drive), and I do NOT want a used screen.

Answer:T520: will on-site support put in a new or used screen

they will put a new screen in when they have the stock, if they only have refurbished stock then that is what they will use. You can tell whether it is refurb or not by a orange sticker on the back of the LCD, which will clearly state whether it is a refurbished LCD or not.

In attempting to prepare a trifold document I want to has a background color on just one of the columns. When I click on "background" the whole page is filled.

I'm assuming you're talking about columns in a table, right?
On the main Word menu you have a Table pulldown. Everything related to tables is there.

Here's another way: select a column of the table, right click, select Shading and borders (or very similar formatting command), pick the color and you're good to go.
I'm not in front of 2000 right now, but it might be select the column and then Format.

Selecting the column is the roughest part, as often either a whole table or just one cell gets selected, so you need to do a bit of mousework to get it right

If you're not talking about a table, but a column of a 3-column page, then I have no clue. Perhaps you can just select the text in that column and give it some background or highlight.

Y570.  Trying to download bios update (and other updates) from new download site.  Installs Akamai dowlnload manager then everytime I try to download files I get a popup message box titled "Message from webpage" with a warning symbol and the file name and nothing else.  I have disabled all firewall and antivirus, disabled virtually all browser (ie9) security blocking.  Tried Chrome and get same popup message.  I followed the troubleshooting guide at Akamai http://www.akamai.com/html/misc/akamai_client/dlmv2_tr.html#q8 and still no success.  Anyone seen this problem?

Answer:Can't download drivers from new support site

I found a control panel item for the Amamai download manager and the log indicates that the files are not found.  So the popup was indicating is a not-very-informative way that the file doesn't exist.  Very frustrating that there are so many broken links and non-functional features of the support website.

Not something I've had much experience with but IIRC all the PowerDVD and similar downloads on the site are updates.  They refuse to load (with a less than useful error message) because there's no previous version installed.
 
Also IIRC, the original installer is on the machine when shipped - probably in a folder called SWTOOLS, APPLICATIONS, or similar.  Perhaps on a D: partition.  Anything like that on your E560?  Sorry I don't have one to look at.
 
Further IIRC, the original installers for these 3rd-party apps aren't available for download due to the vendor's licensing restrictions.

My mothers pc has been hit with ransom ware pretending to be micosoft Security Essentials (888-841-2933).  I have removed the harddrive and installed a new one.  I need to install a clean bios before installing a fresh version of the OS.  HP doesn't have the bios or any software or drivers for me to download and install a fresh verion of the bios to clean up any corruption on it. Where do I find the bios to install before installing the OS? Thanks

Hi,hope u can help. Yesterday when i was looking through this very helpful site i suddenly got a "windows internet explorer" box appear with the message "internet explorer cannot open the internet site //forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/76059-virus-cannot-open-internt-explorer-2.html.then under that it says operation aborted with a box to click ok. It gave me no choice but to click ok or the red x in the corner and then it took me to the internet explorer page where it says "internet explorer cannot display the webpage" most likely causes etc etc etc.this happened out of the blue so i did a spyware scan and found i had WinAntiSpyware and a trojan called ZCodec.mbam removed these 2 and 1 other piece and then i did a second scan stright away with mbam and it was all clear.I then came straight to this site,went to the malware forums for a read and as soon as i wanted to go to a 2nd page the box came up again and i had to close you down.hope you can help as i have learnt quite a bit from reading the forums and the answers you guys give....thanks...btw,running windows xp home edition with sp2.

Hello, I purchased my laptop last year on the 26th of december 2013. I am aware that today my 1 year warranty runs out. Hi everyone.

Recently bought a Satellite P855-31K(PSPKBE) machine.When problems with discreet
GeForce GT 630M arose,went to Toshiba's support site to check for some drivers,only to find out that my machine is just not listed.Neither by entering my s.n.,nor trying to autodetect,it gives me "sorry,your model could not be found".
It is my 5th Toshiba notebook,and never did I experience such a problem.
Guys,maybe someone has any idea of what a heck is this?
Actually,I could have put up with it,if everything had been OK,but that bloody GT 630M would't run at all,either going to BSOD,or running extremely slow with a lot of artefacts on the screen,and all of it straight after launching any 3D application-no overheating involved.

Please help...
BTW,online warranty registration DID accept my serial No.

I purchased a P50 a couple months ago and haven't had much time to do a whole lot with it until the last month.  Now I've been using it every day and had had a significant amount of Win10 crashes on it.  What I determined today is that in SSD slot 1 I have a brand new NVME and the slot itself is sporadically not working correctly.  If I let the machine cool down I can boot it up and use slot 1, however once it's operating Windows will crash under a high load where it gets warm.  Right now it won't see any M.2 in slot 1 - and I've tested 3 drives in both slots now and have narrowed it down. My first question is - is this something that's been happening or noticed with the P50 line? Second question is - does the chat on Lenovo support just not exist?  I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Edge in Windows 10 and Chrome and Firefox in OS X to no avail.  The support site just fails to even remember the serial I put in under my assets and when I do get to the page all I see is this: http://imgur.com/B1rWbSU Super frustrating as I have time right now to open a ticket and apparently will have to call.  I fail to see how the site is operational at all.

Schmidtj, The S10e Bios version 66 was pulled from the site because it had a glitch where it did not properly detect some models that it should not be installed on.  We removed the version to protect customers of those units, as if they applied version 66 there could be complications. We have version 67 which is been put out for the regular S10 that should correctly identify, and I expect testing to soon complete on the equivalent version for the S10e and be restored to the web. I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this has caused. Best regards, Mark

looks like all your angular functionality is broken.  Keep getting errors like Uncaught TypeError: l.getCurrentURLParmeters is not a function TypeError: l.getPrevUrl is not a function etc Nothing is working, and ure angular js scripting is broke. Not a great start for me just buying one of ure laptops.

If your unit is new you will find all drivers in a folder in your drive. They are usually the latest compared to what you can find in the download site.

Hi all,  I've just purchased a T520 and when I checked the ThinkVantage Toolbox I couldn't help but notice that I had a one-year depot warranty, yet I quite clearly remember purchasing a two-year extension. The order status page confirms this; it shows that the warranty's been upgraded to two year depot. I also checked the Lenovo support site and it says that my machine has a one-year depot warranty. My question is, does the warranty just kick in next year or is it supposed to be showing that I have a two-year warranty right now? Thanks

Hello. I am trying to download the latest version of the BIOS for the HP Compaq Pro 6300 Microtower (B5N11UT#ABA). Upon searching the official HP support website for my device and clicking the link for the software and driver downloads, it results in "The site can't be reached."  I have attempted this in both Chrome and Firefox browsers. Other HP product pages load fine (such as a HP Stream Notebook - 13). It seems my B5N11UT#ABA is an isolated issue. For the record, it is not an "old" product, at least no where near exceeding the 10-year limit for HP product support pages. Please advise. Thanks,Mark

I completed my upgrade from Win 7.1 professional to Win 10 today and went online to download the Thinkvantage updates for my machine from the Lenovo support site, but the site won't render in any of my browsers anymore.  Instead, I get this:http://imgur.com/vdTLNBuI can't navigate down to my model, or have it autodetect. I tried disabling antivirus / malware screens without success.  Can anyone help point me to a solution so I can complete this upgrade?  Or should I just roll back to Win7? Thank you,Greg

Has anyone tried using the recovery disc available at dell support site? I was not able to create or clone my factory issue SSD and I used to reinstall windows using the recovery disc but only to find out that it does not come with the drivers. You have to manually download everything from drivers to application.
I notice there are two ISO available.
I tried the second one (for dell) but that does not have any drivers included. What is the difference between the two? i was hoping to get an recovery disc that included everything.

webs.com offers easy-to-make template websites which you can then alter, including using their canned websites, modifying their canned websites or going to full html if you want to. You can load your own graphics or use theirs. I've been using it for several years and like it.

There's also a company called Webstarts.com which also is easy to use and I've heard WordPress.com is good, but I haven't tried them out yet so I can't give much information about them.

For some of the "free" website companies, you need to read the fine print before you start. Webs.com and webstarts.com are both for free if you accept the ads and use the domain they give you which is usually your name followed by their name, for instance webs.com preceded by your own name.

With webs.com, it's not expensive to have the ads removed, but it's hard to find that option - the one which allows you to have them removed for (last I checked) 14.95 a year which is about 1.25 per month. If you want your own domain, this costs more. You can get a domain with them or you can buy an ad-removal package and have your domain point at your website.

There are other companies where you can set up a website for free, but then they want 50-70 dollars per month, so you have to watch out before you get started building.

Lenovo part/model numbers can be cryptic. Whenever I encounter this situation, I Google the model number. Model 9181A91 is a Thinkcentre M57. But back on the Lenovo driver page, entering "9181A91" in quick path does link to your specific drivers. When entering model numbers drop all spaces and leading MT designations.

I have been rather disappointed and upset about Lenovo's Warranty Service with my ThinkPad T410.
This is why I would advice all to read this before your next purchase.
 
This is what happened:
The first time I brought my Thinkpad for service, I was told that I had a on-site warranty and that they would come over to my place to assist me with any technical difficulties. Therefore , when I encounter my next problem  with the PC, I called them so they could come over to help. HOWEVER , TO MY DISMAY, I WAS TOLD TO SOLVE IT MYSELF AND THEY WILL NOT DISPATCH ANY TECHNICIANS TO HELP ME !!! SO LET ME POSE THIS QUESTION BACK TO LENOVO: ARE YOUR ON-SITE Warranty Non-Existent???? Or is it a scam to let others believe that you have the best after purchase service?
So indeed I did a system recovery myself but failed to and brought it back to the service centre.NOW THEY TELL ME MY OS HAVE CRASHED AND I NEED TO PAY $30 for it ! This is totally ridiculous and I was so put off as a result

Downloaded Windows 10 before checking Lenovo's support site...yes rookie mistake and should know better. Most of the Lenovo products do NOT support Windows 10 today and they DON'T recommend you upgrade to Windows 10. Did download Windows 10 onto existing 8.1 environment. Worked fine for an hour then the screens brightness decreased by 75% as the Intel HD Graphics card is not compatible with Windows 10. Recovered back to Windows 8.1 - will wait for Intel to catch-up with their graphics drivers before attempting another download. Overall first impressions of Windows 10 - looked good. No more IE have MS Edge now for web browsing.

I had to format my HDD in my Qosmio F20-137. Then I have reinstalled operative system (XP) and all drivers I found on Toshiba support site. But I can't find any driver for the sound card and thus my PC is now soundless (except the beeps from the PC speaker).

Where do I find the right driver?

The Satellite L500 PSLJ0E is a Toshiba European notebook series.
I found the drivers for this series on Toshiba European driver page?
I don?t know why Tempro or Service Station cannot find this but I could find it.
The PSLJ0E number is the first number in the list.

To be honest; i don't udpate any drivers if everything is working properly.
I follow always this advice; never change a running system. and guess what? This is the best advice I ever heard... ;)

I go to the site an see {iTranslate} surrounding all of the buttons that I need to click on to identify my computer and download the relevant drivers.  The site won't identify my computer even when I type 4180-KHU into the correct space.  I am in the US and speak English so I don't understand why this issue pops up.  Initially it happened occasionally now it happens all of the time.  I have a fresh install using recovery discs.  I am downloading the new hardware drivers before using windows update to update windows.

(Please pardon my redundancy - I have posted this to the Customer Care Board and Client Service forums - just hoping to correct what I hope was an accidental change in support policy.)
This is not a technical comment but it is a comment about Dell's Technology Support. Recently the support site for laptops, and I presume other areas though I have not checked, was revised to change its structure. In the process many items were removed notably having to do with drivers for older systems. Even if a system is past warranty that does not remove the responsibility for Dell to continue to provide the most recent (even if old) drivers especially since the cost of doing so is trivial. This is especially the case when Dell is the only source for specific drivers. A specific example is a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop which uses the embedded GPU in the CPU as well as outboard nVidia GPU; the hybrid video architecture is such that NVidia provides no driver and re-directs users to Dell's site. In the case of this specific model, most of the drivers that were present a month ago are now gone.
Dell laptops have two things going for them - good products at a good price and a great support site. This has prompted me to continue focusing upon Dell - e.g. two new 5759's in 2017, and to recommend Dell to colleagues and friends. reports to use the default printer, stop by our web and in the Code & Design
Tips area under Reports, there's a function you can cut and paste into your

If I remember correctly, I had a thread going here at Major Geeks and we were talking about services (I think). And someone posted a link and I downloaded a .reg file that installed a list of the default XP services that get loaded at startup. Now, the file says XP Pro in the file name, but I'm pretty sure it will work on Home too, but I don't want to take the chance and risk royally messing up a PC. Here's the name of the file:
Safe_XP_SP2_Pro_Start_v202.reg
I've Googled it, I've searched here at MG, I've looked thru many of my threads from the past 2-3 months, and I can't seem to find it anywhere. I can't remember if I started the thread, or if I was just active in someone else's thread..... if any of this rings a bell with anyone, please post the web site where I downloaded that file from! That .reg file has made my life alot easier on a couple of PCs, and I really appreciate it, but I'd like to find the site that hosted it.....

Hello, for some time now, my wireless adapter will not work everytime I resume from sleep. I have been using a little devcon script to disable/enable the adapter several times to get it to work again (otherwise I have to reboot). I'm sick of the hassle and wanted to try downloading the latest driver and reinstalling...however, when I go to the support site (which is now uglier than it used to be), I click on the link/expand button for drivers for the wifi adapter and it's blank.  Tried in Firefox 4 & IE9. Any suggestions?

I have a new SSD drive and did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. I have the 2013 fingerprint software file saved in my downloads folder, but am trying to find out if there's a newer version before I install that one. None of the website links are working. My model/serial number aren't accepted, the drivers & software link comes up blank, as does the contact us page. Can anyone tell me if the 2013 file is the most recent? If it's not, suggest how can I access the correct driver page when none of the links are working? Thanks.

I bought Satellite P300-21E Model PSPCCE 3 days ago and i am still trying to install display drivers for its ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card.

The drivers which are provided in the official support site are wrong, because they are for Mobility Radeon HD 34xx/36xx series and not for the 46xx series.
The drivers installation is impossible and you are kindly requested to provide me a solution for this issue.

I already informed the local partner of TOSHIBA named IDEAL.

The Win XP driver is NOT wrong!!
Fact is that the same notebook was equipped with 3 different graphic chips!!!

The notebook series Satellite P300 PSPCCE uses graphic chips: Radeon HD 34xx/36xx/46xx series

The driver on the page is designed and compatible only with Mobility Radeon HD 34xx/36xx chip. It does not support the 46xx series.

Unfortunately, it seems that the XP driver for your graphic card is not released yet?.

Maybe you should check some 3rd party webpage for a compatible XP driver for Mobility Radeon HD 46xx chip

Hi all, Ive followed the instructions given to me by Tech support and gone to the link listed under my Service Tag where there is the option to download my Windows 8.1 ISO image along with instructions which Ive printed off.
I will be installing from a USB flash drive and the instructions to create the bootable USB installation media are straight forward and easy to follow using Diskpart. Then simply Mount the image and copy all files over onto the USB flash drive.
Im a little confused though when reading the instructions under How to Reinstall Windows 8.1. there are two options PCs with BIOS boot mode and PCs with UEFI boot mode. I purchased my Inspiron laptop late 2015 so it has UEFI boot mode with Secure Boot. Under the UEFI boot instructions it talks about disabling Secure Boot and for USB installation media set Boot order to Internal ODD device. I don't understand..a USB flash drive isnt an Internal ODD device as far as im aware.
So without doing anything to System Setup Ive tried inserting a flash drive, tapping F12. It says UEFI boot mode and Secure Boot is enabled and the flash drive is listed second one down underneath my Toshiba hard disc. It seems to me that I have to follow the instructions for PCs with BIOS boot mode even though my system is UEFI boot mode!! Am I missing something here?

Hi.Since lately I'm using Vista Ultimate on a T61p. After running Rescue and Recovery factory settings I tried to automatically identify my ThinkPad on the Lenovo Support Site. I installed the ActiveX Plugin but nothing happend. After that I upgraded the Internet Explorer to version 8, but I am still missing the button "Auto-detect my system". Are there any other suggestions? Thanks.citizennb

My Latitude E6420 has Bios A7.  Support site has Bios A12 through A23, all of which need Bios A8 to install.  How do I get Bios A8-A11 to prepare for the later ones that are available?

looking for drivers for toshiba satellite a200-1yo i remember having to go to a link that took me to another toshiba search criteria..maybe hong kong i cant remember...but in the model select this machine was there, but not in the usual tosh support site

appreciate any help please

I have bought a wireless-N WiFi repeater and am trying to set it up. The first instruction is to log into http://cm3-repeater.ip to get the set-up wizard. When I enter the web address I get a TalkTalk message "Sorry, we could not find cm3-reapeter.ip."
Any suggestions?
Without accessing this web site I can't continue.

http://cm3-repeater.ip in the browser's address box. This address is the
default IP address for this device.
The repeater needs to be connected by cable first to set it up.
