HP Pavilion 500-023W Desktop windows 10 (WILL NOT BOOT)

Question: HP Pavilion 500-023W Desktop windows 10 (WILL NOT BOOT)

I downloaded an update for transferring files to my Android phone. At completion it told me I needed to run setup.exe which wasn't the name of the program I downloaded so I told it to ignore. The it background downloaded a bunch of programs without permission and told me it needed to restart. I went to MSCONFIG and set the computer to load in Safe Mode w/ Networking so I could run my anti-virus and anti-malware and remove the items it downloaded, but after restart the computer failed to load.

I have left unplugged for over 24 hours and didn't help. According to HP site my computer can't load from disc without telling it to from boot menu which I cant get to.
I push power and I hear power source fan start. The led lights up for about 30-45 seconds and goes out. Makes no beeps or other sounds at all.

Please help...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Mark, welcome to the forum. Yes, I believe that your motherboard should be compatible with the video card.  The card requires UEFI in the motherboard and your motherboard should have it.  Just be aware that the specifications for the card state that it only requires a power supply unit (PSU) with 300W.  Many members have reported that it is more like 400W.  You can try it with the current PSU, but if it doesn't work I suggest one made by Corsair.  I recommend at least 500W. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

OVERVIEW:For awhile my PC was working perfectly fine and no issues. For about 6 months I haven't been able to play onto my computer because when trying to start computer it would start, but wouldn't show anything onto the screen. Then began to show on the screen, but if turned off, wouldn't show up on screen next time turning it on. I would have to press the Power botton for a long time for it to turn on, all fans would work and still had issues displaying onto the screen. Changed and tried the HDMI, and power cords onto other computers and they worked. Went to the BestBuy GeekSquad and they could not find out what was wrong because it wouldn't display onto the screen. Now I plan on purchasing a new Power-Supply to see if that fixes the problem. SPECS:HP-Pavilion 500-023wGeforce GTX Evga 750 Ti FTW16GB Ram Serial No. 4UJ31906NMSystem No. H5P66AAR#ABA BUDGET:$50.00 USD *Note: I need this Power-Supply to be able to run my Graphics Card*

When booting my HP Pavilion A1410N desktop PC (windows XP), I get a screen with a message saying something like "We apologize, but we cannot boot your PC...may be a recent hardware or software change". If I let it go, it keeps trying to reboot and coming back to the same screen. I was able to run some tests and got the following error code: HD521-2W. Some other highlights:

- Hard drive: Samsung SP2004C
- Self test status: 7 (completed with the read element of the test failed)
- Passed the CPU & Memory test, but got the HD521-2W error code with the other tests, including the 'short self-test'
- 2 days before problem, uploaded an HP upgrade.
- 1 day before problem, got a 'possible worm' message from McAfee. Ran their diagnostics and it came up with 1 possible problem file but nothing 'serious'.
- Wasted $50 talking to HP help desk yesterday. They told me I need a new hard drive, but it seemed the guy was just reading a manual, and just took some basic steps before telling me it must be the hard drive.

I'd sure like to be able to fix the problem without losing data on my hard drive.

Thanks,

I can not boot the the system in to safe mode. Esc, F1, F2, F8 all boot normal .  Control Panel -> Admin Tools-> Ssyetm Configuration will not let me se Safe Mode! Any ideas? Thasnk in advance, Paul

Answer:Cant Boot Hp Pavilion Desktop in Safe Mode

Getting into Safe Mode sometimes is tricky.  Depending on the Windows version, sometimes it won't show you a chance before it is too late.  What I tell people - as soon as the computer starts to start, start tapping F8.  Do not hold or only tap once but tapping about every 1/2 second on F8 until Windows gives you a choice to pick safe mode, normal start, previous good configuration ETC.  Then pick just safe mode by scrolling thru the coices until that is highlighted.  The hit enter. If you get the Windows is starting screen, it is too late. You missed the chance.  Plan on starting over.

I have changed the uefi settings to boot to the bios and again the monitor light flashes but won;t go into bios. I have moved the jumper to clear the bios and removed the cmos battery to no avail. Lastly, Ireset windows to no avail. I have tried pressing the esc button at startup and the monitor light flahes but will not go into bios.

HP Pavilion a6433w, asus mobo, 500 gig HD, E2180 dual core cpu

My desktop got shocked, psu green light was blinking, so I called HP techs, they told me my mobo was shot. So, I order a new one, along with a new psu, hard drive, and cpu.
I put in the recovery disk and all the lights come on, fans twirl, dvd tray opens & closes, but it will not boot up. they
I don't know what else to do. Every time I call HP, it cost me 49 dollars, and I feel that they don't tell me everythin g I need to know at once, just want me to keep spending 49 $.
I replaced everything as HP informed me, since they didn't have any of the original parts on hand, I had to buy the original parts else where.

I have a little knowledge of computers, no expert here, I just know that it won't boot up with or without the disks?

Thank you for any help you send my way.

Away for the weekend and came back to a cataotrophic drive failure.  Mirror also gone -- though I should have replaced the mirror a couple of months ago when I noticed an issue. Anyway.. have been trying to find on the HP Support site a Windows 7 Home Prem OA HP image so I can reload/re-install after I replace the drives.  Probably a good time for an SSD drive. So where do I find the Windows 7 image for this server, HPE-270f?  What stinks -- I just upgraded to Windows 10 just a week back but will deal with that after I get my system back up and running. Thanks!

@besen, welcome to the forum. HP doesn't recommend downgrading from win 10 to win 7 because many of the components in a Win 10 computer may not be compatible with Win 10.  If you want to continue, you will need to disable "Secure Boot" and maybe enable "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot cofiguration" on the settings page. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Answer:Hp Pavilion Desktop 550-150jp windows 7 installation problem

> BIOS language is changed to Japanese. There should be an option to change the language to English (if you can read Japanese). From: http://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c04872379your computer was originally shipped with Windows 10. So, you should not try to install Windows 7, because Microsoft will not support Windows 7 after January 2020. Instead, download Windows 10: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10and write the software to a USB memory-stick.Boot your computer from that memory-stick.When asked for the 25-character product-key, click "I do not have one".Since Windows 10 was installed, you can reinstall it, at any time, at no cost to you. If Windows "Device Manager" reports any "missing" device-drivers, see: http://support.hp.com/ca-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-550-100-Desktop-PC-series/8499648/model/... to download the HP-specific software. > the main issue is that Windows 7 setup stops on the first screen, keyboard and mouse stops working when setups loads Correct.  Your Windows 7 DVD has *NO* support for the USB ports on your "Skylake" motherboard. So, if your computer has PS/2 ports for mouse & keyboard, use those ports, until Windows 7 is installed.Or, as stated before, install Windows 10.

Answer:After Windows 10 Update, My HP Pavilion Desktop Starts in Sleep

Hi, sorry to here of your difficulties. Unfortunately we don't have- and never will have- a tutorial to help with failed updates which render PCs unbootable.

Do you have any disk images or system images created before the update? We strongly and repeatedly recommend people do this to help them recover from serious situations quickly and without technical help. We recommend Macrium Reflect (free), but there are other such programs of course.

Secondly, do you have a full backup of all important data? If not, I suggest you might want to make sure you do, e.g. by using Kyhi's bootable disk (DVD/flash drive) which you can get from the top of the Software and Apps section.

Thirdly, If you use a Win 10 bootable medium (which you can freely create- see the Tutorial section, search for iso a few times, or search the net for Microsoft media creation tool), boot from it, after the first prompt click 'Repair my computer' and amongst options available, try Safe Mode, can you boot to Safe Mode? -second part here:

Answer:HP Pavilion Desktop a730n with Windows XP crashed after System Restore

How long did you leave the computer unplugged? If you just unplugged and plugged in right away your not giving the hardware time to reset. Unplug the computer and leave it sit for a bought 10 minutes. That should be enough time for the system to reset. I suspect it may be a hardware lock. Not ruling out software as yet.

On Monday night when surfing Facebook my entire laptop froze-the time included. I tried re-starting it several times but each time it would freeze on the "starting windows" screen.

I've tried 'start up repair' many times and each time I've had notification of its failure due to being unable to boot. I've tried multiple systems restore points and each time I receive a failure notice with error codes 0x80070002 or 0x800700b7. I've run the hp diagnostic assessments and the bios diagnostic tools and as far as the results are concerned there's nothing wrong with the laptop. I've tried booting both with it plugged into the mains, and on battery power...nothing. I've completely run out of ideas.

If I need to completely wipe the laptop and start again, it's not the end of the world, but I'm wary of doing it because I don't actually know the issue is to begin with and am concerned that wiping everything won't actually fix the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've attached photos of laptop information and a couple of the diagnostic results.

Thank you, and apologies for any typos/autocorrects that I haven't noticed...doing this via my mobile.

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion DV8000 running Windows XP and all was working fine until recently when attempting to boot results in repeated boot sounds (like the hard drive making a physical sound over and over again, almost like the DVD drive making a sound, that I usually heard and bootup, but it makes it over and over again).  The result is the screen doesn't display anything (no HP logo, no Windows logo, nothing) and the keyboard is locked, i.e. capslock won't turn on, nor can I even power off the machine, just have to unplug and let the battery run out).  I'm at a little bit of a loss for where to begin and appreciate any help.My first priority is to get the data off of the hard drives, if indeed it's done and second priority would be to get it back up and running. Thank you for any help!

Dear HP community, i am am currently having an issue with my computer of 5 years. I have been rejecting the Windows 10 update for as long as I could but ultimately it did a self update and shortly after updating, I was unable to even start up my computer as I kept getting stuck at the loading page with two errors "error with FAT32 hard drive" and "error with NTFS hard drive". To which, the subsequent message would be "we are attempting to resolve this issue by restarting your computer" and I would be stuck in the infinite loop where my computer cannot start upi would appreciate any and all forms of help as this is highly frustrating, given that my school term has started and I am suddenly without a computer. Please help! Thank you. RegardsYi Xiang

me27 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about boot problems and wanted to help -- but need more information. First off, you mention running Win10 but that model PC comes in more than one OS version.  So, did yours come with Win10 preinstalled, or did you do the Win10 Upgrade? And, if you DID do the upgrade, what was the prior OS version and when did you do that? We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Answer:HP pavilion DV6 stuck on windows boot screen

Hi, Shut down the notebook ( hold down the power button until the machine shuts down ).  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages. Can you also post back with the following. 1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of your dv6 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information. 2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ). Regards, DP-K

...in that at 5-6-7 it seems to require me to select the CD then boot to Windows from HDD then restart and do the same again, but this time select CD again, or something??
I expected to set the device, then restart the computer and it would boot from the device, not restart Windows as described.
I was able to boot from a WinPE 4b CD.

I then decided to try changing boot order in the UEFI BIOS. From then on the HP (F9) described menu showed 'Windows Boot Menu' only under UEFI Devices. I could only boot from CD after putting the order back to 'Windows Boot menu' at the top of the order list; after which, as long as the CD was in the drive the (F9) list showed the CD drive as selectable to boot from.

I find this, after 30 years of normal BIOS, to be confusing.
Can somebody help please?

You can boot any DVD/CD/USB disk with WinPE4 in UEFI mode, with Secure Boot ON & UEFI mode ON.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)After updating to Windows 10 my pc (model f23-6010ea) won't boot. It doesn't even seem to start the POST. Screen blank, keyboard and mouse totally unresponsive. There is power. The fan is on and disk light comes on for a few seconds. The disk doesn't seem to be spinning up though. I disconnected the drive and also disconnected the CMOS battery for a while. this had no effect. The graphics card is built in so I couldn't test this. There are no beep codes. Nothing. But the pc is clearly powered up There is only one exteral button on the pc which is the on off switch. Is there any way to reset the pc to factory settings and/or reflash the bios without keyboard mouse and screen access? Apologies. I originally posted this in the Misc forum but I then though that this is the more correct one and switched. Thanks johhny

Answer:Pavilion 23 All in one wont Boot after Windows 10 Upgrade

Greetings, Download (on another PC) the Win 10 .ISO here and follow instructions to create either USB or DVD install media. Boot to media on your PC and try repair options. If this fails you will have to reinstall factory operating system. You are one of the unfortunate individuals having a failed Win 10 install and no automatic rollback to the previous operating system. Also see this article by Ed Bott. TomP

I've had this notebook for about 5 months. In trying to copy some files from a hard drive folder to One Drive I got a message that there was not enough disk space. I don't believe the disk was filled and suspected a virus. I was going to do  a Malwarebytes scan, and in the process of updating definitions, MBAM popped up a message that it couldn't load the anti-rootkit driver, or some such, and gave me the choice of scanning without it or restarting and looking for the driver. I chose to restart. Instead of rebooting, I saw PREPARING AUTOMATIC REPAIR > DIAGNOSING YOUR PC > AUTOMATIC REPAIR > YOUR PC DID NOT START CORRECTLY. Then I am given the option to restart or go to advanced options. Choosing restart, repeats the same loop, endlessly, and windows 10 has not booted up since. Trying a system restore, I get an error that there is not enough disk space. I used a Bit Defender rescue USB utility to boot to that app and did the scan. It found one infection: GEN:VARIANT.SYMMI.31976 -- and deleted it. The PC still would not boot. I repeated the scan, and no further infection was found. Via the cmd prompt I deleted the recycle bin and a bunch of files to free up space for system restore and ran the restore and got the error that the restore point was corrupted and destroyed. Apparently, that trojan is buried deep, and I'm afraid I may find that the HP recovery files have also been corrupted or wiped out. I was hoping to avoid a reset anyway, wi... Read more

Hi Visruth, Thanks a lot for your kind response! My laptop shipped with FreeDOS, and in the beginning even I had this issue, but for me it turned out that the USB was not bootable.  For me the best software to make a bootable disk is - http://rufus.akeo.ie/ Its free and open source, and its really light. Have you tried booting via the DVD on other PCs. Because if other DVD/CD are working on your laptop, there might be an issue with the DVD that you are using. Have a great day ahead! Regards,Brahmnoor

Hi all,

I'm fairly computer saavy and can usually fix most of my own computer issues, but this one goes beyond my level of expertise.

I was reinstalling Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit yesterday as I have done many times before; I should mention the original OS was Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a few years ago.

I deleted the old partitions and selected windows to be installed on the newly wiped partition. I believe I may have accidentally deleted the recovery partition as well, which could be part of the problem, though it appeared everything installed properly (as evidenced by the green check marks indicating each step was completed). But upon final reboot during the reinstallation process, the computer hung at the HP black start up screen. After about 20 minutes of no activity, I powered down the computer and attempted to restart, but windows would not load and I can no longer boot from disc.

I can't access safe mode, the BIOS menu or recovery. Pressing any of these three keys (F8, F9 or F10) repeatedly leads to a loud beep after about 10 seconds, no matter which keys on the keyboard I push. The computer just continually hangs on the HP start up screen. The CD-ROM appears to be working as I hear it spinning, but none of the discs I've tried will load and I've tried pretty much everything: Windows 7 installation disc, system repair disc, Hiren's boot disc, DBAN (thinking I may be able to wipe everything completely and start over), Paragon Rec... Answer:Pavilion DV6-1030us won't boot from CD ROM after failed windows 7 inst

Deleting the Recovery partition is not a problem though conflicting boot code can sometimes foul out install requiring wiping the HD with Diskpart Clean Command

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Follow one of these steps to Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS.

If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

If these steps fail, try unplugging the DVD drive to do flash stick install. Use the latest official Install ISO and burning/writing tool provided in Steps 1 and 2 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If that fails unplug the HD, try booting a DVD. If it fails unplug DVD drive and try booting a flash stick.

Try moving the HD to another PC to wipe it with Diskpart Clean Command. If this doesn't help test the HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check on a full disk Active partition created from Step 2 of SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation. Then try install again on that partition in problem PC.

If all else fails, install to HD alone in another PC, move to problem PC to see if it will boot. If not boot Paragon Adaptive Restore CD freeware to adjust install to boot on changed hardware.

After I upgraded the ram memory of my HP DV6 from 4Gb to 8Gb (2 x 4Gb Kingston KTA-MB1333/4G), Windows wont boot anymore. I get blue screens and it keeps rebooting. I believe the specs of the memory are similar to the original Samsung M471B5673EH1-CH9 memory: 1333Ghz, non-ecc, 1.5Volt, Cas latency 9 etc.etc. It's a HP DV6-2140ED laptop with an Intel i5-430m processor and Intel mobile HM55 chipset. The bios detects 8Gb and it also passes the memory check/test. As far as I know I also installed the latest bios firmware: F.1D. Reinstalling my Windows 10 64-bit doesnt work either: with 8Gb I also get blue screens after I try to boot from my Windows 10 bootable usb flash drive. I read of other people having the same problem, but I havent read of a solution yet. What can be done about this?

Upgraded to Windows 10 on my HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx.  Now it requires two power-on boots to login.  First power-on results in a freeze, with a frozen spinner, before the background screen and login appear.  I power off, then power on again, and at the point of the previous freeze, the screen blinks and IF I move the mouse, the boot continues to login.  Also, the mousepad scroll does not work despite upgrading to the latest driver prior to the win10 OS upgrade.

SCK1 Sorry to hear your HP DV6 has crashed.  I have one myself and they are really good laptops. There is nowhere you can download a Win7 image that will work on your laptop because it uses an HP OEM version of Windows, and that can not be downloaded.  Instead, you have to order it from HP, and it is included in something known as HP Recovery Media. HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.Unfortunately, HP no longer stocks recovery media for a lot of the DV6, so they might not carry the media you need. If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/ Please NOTE that the HP Recovery Function erases the ENTIRE content of the hard drive, so if there are any files or folders you want to retain, you need to copy those off to USB stick or external drive before you run the Recovery function.Good Luck

Hi,

I bought HP laptop with the above said model from HP on 1st of september 2007 in sweden.
but i want to install Orcad v15.7 on my laptop but this software is compatible only for upto windows 2003 server or previous version of microsoft operating systems.
so when i want to install windows XP operating system, i couldn't able to install since it was saying that it didnt recognize the hard disk and its necessary drivers in hard disk as well.

since I bought this laptop only to use orcad v15.7 version(latest version) as my primary need. when i approached their service point they said it is not possible and you can find it in our website also about non compatibility of the other operating systems even it is from microsoft also.
but they did not say while i am buying laptop from them about the compatibility of other operating system it is due to faith on HP laptops..but now they say that it will not.
then it is of o use to buy laptop from HP since they are controlling the freedom of choice of choosing operating system to use on HP laptops by the customer.
It is simply cheating the customer.

if any body suggests about how to get hardware drivers to install on HP laptop.
it would be a great help for me.

thanks and regards,
vasu

Answer:installing a dual boot windows operating system with vista on HP pavilion dv6500 lapt

Try and read this.
http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-85807-HP-Pavilion-dv6565ca-HD-SATA-driver.html

It mentions finding the intel SATA driver, putting it on a floppy, and pressing F6 during the WinXP install and loading the SATA drivers.
Then WinXP installer should find the hard drive.

However if you want to keep Vista around, you will have to resize your partition before attempting to install XP.
To do this you would need Partition Magic or GParted.

Then when you do install XP you have no guarantee that you will be able to find drivers for everything. Since HP doesn't seem to want to support XP, you will probably have to try installing drivers from the hardware makers. For example if the motherboard uses an Intel chipset, you will need the reference drivers from intel. I think it uses a GeForce video chipset, so you would need drivers from Nividia. You would also need ethernet drivers from whoever made the network chipset.
Its going to be a bit of searching.

If you can return it, try and find someone still making xp laptops, or at least still offering drivers for the hardware if you choose to install xp.

HP Pavilion 6355 has the following issues:

1) Computer will not shut down by holding in power button. It must be "unplugged from outlet."

2) When power cord plugged in the light sequence on the tower reads, from left to right, yellow, green.

3) A Thumping sound comes from speakers, not the typical Bios Beeps.

4) Monitor is blank, yellow light indicator on.

5) Cannot open CD Drive, even manually.

This computer belongs to a friend of mine whose daughter uses it for High School work. She was working on it one day, received an error message, no, no, writing it down would be to easy , so she shut down using start-shutdown, and left for school. When she came back and resumed her work she was met with the above scenario.

Any ideas as to the most expeditious way to get to root of issue.

There was a bad thunderstorm the other day and I lost power while my computer was on. This wasn't the first time this has happened so once I got power back, I turned my computer on again. It takes my pc 5 minutes to get to the desktop and while that took place, I lost power again. After I got power back and waited an hour to make sure it was going to stay, I turned my computer on. I chose to start normally but when it shows the Windows XP boot screen (http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/1...bootscreen.jpg) it seemed to hang. The bar on the bottom of screen kept going but I'd never get to the Windows XP login screen.

Seeing as how it appeared to be stuck to me, I manually rebooted the pc and I again was given options on how to start windows, I selected Safe mode this time but it gave me a list of what I assume it was going to be loading (a lot of .sys files and stopped at JGOGO.sys) but that too froze to me.

Answer:Windows XP won't boot to desktop

The power failure likely caused some data errors on your drive. You need to run chkdsk /r on it. You can do that by installing the drive as a slave into your other computer.

It is always a good idea to have your data backed up prior to running chkdsk with the /r switch.

You could also run chkdsk /r from a Recovery Console session but you can't back up your data that way so it would be riskier than the slave method.

recently i installed a new power supply, video card, and added a stick of memory to my computer.

while playing WoW yesterday it shut down and would not turn back on, so i opened the case to find that the main power from the PSU to the mobo was halfway unplugged, i plugged the wire back in and turned the computer back on but now it keeps shutting itself off before even reaching my desktop.

i think i may have short circuited something but i have no idea what i need to do to fix/repair this problem.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer:will not boot windows desktop

Hello,

Try unplugging the power cable to your PSU for 2-3 minutes, then plug it back up and try again.

Try removing all unecessary hardware devices from your PC, including optical drives, sound card and extra RAM modules, leaving just your hard drive, one RAM module and graphics card connected (if you are using one).

Also try using another PSU.

Hey guys I was wondering if you could offer me some help and advice.

The thing is I was just browsing the internet when all of a sudden the computer decides to restart itself and then when it was loading up again decided to hang on the vista boot.

When turning it on I see all the usuals, HP load screen and then on to the hard drive check thing where the harddrive is listed and then where the operating system would usual load - the monitor just changes its resolution and stays on a blank screen. I don't hear any of the "welcome" sounds which vista gives so im presuming its not loading.

I have gave the computer a good clean which is was in great need of thinking that it may have just overheated as it has been left on for the past few days.
However this has not helped in the load matter yet has made it a lot quieter which I suppose is one benefit from this...

If anyone could offer any help or support it would be much appreciated!
(Was thinking the graphics card may have failed but surely I would still hear the vista load sounds?)

One night 5 weeks ago my All in One computer froze and after several hours I did a hard shut down. When I rebooted the computer would not boot and I received error 0x000000f. I bought Easy RE for windows 7 and it did not fix the problem. I used Gparted and was able to repair the boot files and then was able to get the computer to boot from several different ISO disks I keep on hand. Hiren's Boot disk being one of these. I tried copying files I need to save but this takes forever as I am not seeing specific files I would like to save. But I can see my Norton N360 backup and all the files seem to be in these folders. But copying these folders will take weeks. I gave up on this idea after a week of trying. After much online research and taking baby steps I can not boot to the windows logon screen. I type in my password and after a few hours the screen comes up and goes directly into check disk. I let this run the first time until it completed, I presently have chkdsk running a second time and this time I am taking pictures of the steps as they complete. I missed the first chkdsk final summary. After chkdsk the computer tries to load. But there is only a teal blue screen; and in the lower right hand corner it says this copy of windows in not genuine. I know for sure this is a legal copy of windows as it came installed on the computer. I have been able to run the repair disk with no success. I have been able to get to an elevated prompt when I try to run certain tasks but it ... Read more

I just received my PC and Windows 10 will not open. After bios starts the screen says, Hi there Let's get a few basic things out of the way. Asks for home country, language, keyboard layout, and time zone, then click on NEXT. Then I have a screen that says, Get going fast, click on USE EXPRESS SETTINGS. The screen then says Just A Moment with small white balls going in a circle above. At this point the screen goes black except for the white mouse pointer. I have tried two different monitors using the VGA port, one TV using the HDMI port, all with the same results.

Answer:New desktop will not boot into Windows 10

Added anything to this new PC before starting this process (hardware) anything connected except keyboard and mouse ? Since it is brand new i may think of sending it back it maybe hardware related. Unless want to go further and try some resolutions. What did shutting down and rebooting do so far for it ?

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. After an Adaware install today, every time I restart the system, Windows  starts to load and then the system shuts down completely. Sometimes I will get to an MS Repair screen.with an additional option to start Windows normally. The Start up repair utility fails to find a cause. The system restart then fails and the system shuts down,  I am unable to reach my desktop at all

So I have had this trouble for a month now. I moved from my apartment to the new home I purchased and made certain I was the one to pack the computer, which was basically the last thing to go before we left.

At any rate, this was a custom built PC that isn't even a year old. All parts purchased in 2015. When i power on the pc normally it doesnt boot into windows, but actually every now and again i can actually get it to boot. I have tried various trouble shooting for this circumstance. Swapped ram around, removed CMOS, reseated video card, etc. It can't be the ram as I've tried every single chip and I have 4 ram chips. I don't have any other video cards, PSU, or motherboard to try out to rule out the problem. Any suggestions? It completely puzzles me as to why it will randomly boot up sometimes but 9/10 times it just sits there with a black screen. Oh and by the way I get no beep codes from the motherboard anymore. No beeps at all.

My mom's Dell Optiplex Desktop computer will not boot windows.
When you turn it on you get the Dell splash screen, then the screen askign you how you want to boot since last time it had an improper shutdown, if i select Normal or Last Known Good Configuration it will go to the Windows XP loading screen for a minute or so before the whole thing shuts off.
I can get it to boot to safe mode so I don't think the issue is with the HD.
I messed around with the RAM chips since she had several of different sizes from different manufacturers and the 256mb one that was likely original to the PC was able to get through the windows loading screen but it immediately goes to Check Disk and gets to ~15% before shutting off. It will not respond to my wireless keyboard to abort check disk, and I do not have a wired one available.

I have not seen it today, but last time I was working on it I got "Thermal Event" errors even after opening it up and cleaning the bejezus out of if. The thing is spotless inside and is not overheating due to dirt.

Any suggestions are welcome. I am going to see if I can find my old XP disk but I'm not optimistic that it'll turn up.

Thanks in advance

Hi I have installed windows 7 on my PC and now I find that the display freezes when leaving the desktop idle for a period of time. The only way to get back is to force a re boot to the PC. I thought maybe the installation went in wrong so I reformatted hard drive and re installed the operating system again. Re load my normal windows programs and thought all was well until it happened again.
So I thought I would look on the forums to see if any one else has a problem? Found this forum and now I don't feel so bad. I have tried some of the ideas in the above postings but still happens after a short period of time maybe 1/2 hours.
I did how ever look into system rating the PC in properties from the computer button on start programs and ran the system check. After a while the report on screen said Can not rate system at present Window driver problem! what ever this means? Maybe thats why we are having a problem with freezing? Help I do like Win 7 and would like to keep using it so I will keep an eye on this thread to see if any one has a fix? Thanks for reading Peter

Answer:Windows 7 desktop freeze then re boot

Your nv_agp driver isn't running. That is for your AGP slot to work well. You do have AGP style video card, right? Update the chipset drivers for your motherboard. Because now, it's only using PCI to PCI bridge. No good.

And you have Bonjour on your pc. Recommended to Google on how to remove.

Another recommendation: Open Computer (Windows Explorer), click uninstall or change a program. Use this to remove NVidia 3D Vision or similar.

Update your Steam. Unrelated, but I see it crashed on you. http://store.steampowered.com/about/

There are updates for your Adobe Reader.

Use msconfig (because easier for you than Regedit) from start menu. Copy and paste that into search box, hit enter. Go to startup tab.

Uncheck QuickTime Task, Adobe ARM, Adobe Reader Speed Launcher, Google Update. Hit ok.

Please fill in your system specs better if you are able to. Thanks.

Last night my wife shut down her desktop, and it froze. I turned it off manually (ctl-alt-del) wouldn't work. This AM, she turned it on, and it stops at "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". I tried using my Norton Internet Security disk - it just takes me to an A: prompt. I tried my Windows XP disk, and got to the Recovery Console, and ran CHKDSK, which said there were errors. Ran chkdsk /p, which took 2 hours to complete - still no go. It's an old computer (to be immediately replaced), but she had non-backed up data on her hard drive. There is also a second hard drive on the machine (where I back up my data). Is there any way I can somehow get into windows to transfer her files to the backup drive, which I'll then install in the replacement machine? If not, is there any way I can extract her data without going to a pro and paying through the nose? I do have a new laptop (hence this post) if that can be used in any way.

The machine is a Micron PII 933 mHz, running XP Home. Help!!!!

Answer:Can't get desktop to boot up and launch Windows

You could take out the Hard drives and buy an Enclosure to put them in and then hook them up up your Laptop and get to the files that way.

Here's some Enclosures` http://www.usbtech.co.uk/catalog/default.php/cPath/17

Or if you have a friend with a PC put the Hard drive on theirs as Slave and get to the files that way.

This assuming that the Hard drive is just unbootable not damaged

This post has instructions on how to boot windows 8 to the desktop.
The alternate solution is the easiest.
It is toward the bottom of the page.
http://www.7tutorials.com/how-boot-desktop-windows-8-skip-start-screen
I actually use the startup folder in appdata rather than program data,
but it should work either way.
Remember to use the file that is not the executable file
in the startup folder.
If you use the executable,it will just open a window with the desktop
contents shown.
I used this file and a shortcut to media center to start media center on boot.
If you put media center in startup without the desktop file, metro
will stay on top and block it.
The download link is at the end of the post.

Answer:Boot windows 8 straight to the desktop.

Or you could just install Classic Shell: http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/

From the Forums: Windows 8 feature - Boot to desktopTablet users probably love the new interface Microsoft created for Windows 8, but if you're using a laptop or desktop with mouse and keyboard, it could be quite frustrating to boot directly to the new Start screen. Some members of our forums probably felt the same way and began looking for a solution to their problem. In a recent forum post, Neowin member 'Fred 69' has found a way to boot directly to the desktop, without using any third party app. It's a built in Windows feature, although it's not an obvious one.The feature is hidden somewhere between the folder options. All you have to do is to go to options in any Explorer window, choose the 'view' tab and click on 'Restore previous folder windows at log-on'.The system will boot to the desktop at startup, but only if you leave an explorer window open at shutdown. It's still a great way if you don't want to use special software, such as Stardock's Start8.http://www.neowin.net/news/from-the-forums-windows-8-feature---boot-to-desktop

Answer:Windows 8 feature - Boot to desktop

didn't work for me ,but it's just a simple click of the desktop icon on the start screen to get to desktop anyway .

Howdy,

First can you get into Safemode by Tapping F8 on RE Start and getting a option screen up?
Also if you have another PC you can takeout the hard drive and put it on as a Slave drive and get to the files that way.

Re-Scan with Hijack This, put a check mark next to all listed below, close all other programs and hit FIX CHECKED:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4DF5B116-4FD9-4039-B377-1130953A980F} - (no file)

I dont see anything that would cause that problem though.

My desktop computer just crashed. When I turn it on it just stays at the huge DELL boot screen. Windows won't start or anything. No key strokes do anything, not F2, F12, or anything else I've tried.Windows Vista Home BasicDell manufactured (as mentioned)1 GB RAM, CPU ?I haven't tried any new websites or software in a long time, but my wife is always playing Flash media mini games (Yatzee, Diner Dash, Monopoly, etc from various sites) and don't know if it could be related. I run Norton scans regularly I have no idea what the problem could be. It was working fine, got shut down normally and won't restart.

After running the update my desktop is stuck in a failed automatic repair mode.  None of the recovery options function, no response with the F8 or F10 key.  What has happened and what can I do to get this machine fixed?

Answer:I ran a Windows 10 update and my Desktop will not boot up.

Always include PC model in your posts.
F8 doesn't work with Windows 10, and F10 never worked with any version of Windows on Dell PCs.  Only F12 works with Win 10.
If you didn't create a recovery drive, you will have to create a bootable USB with Win 10 and repair the installation. You can download the files for free from Microsoft.
Check for Win 10 recovery options here:
support.microsoft.com/.../windows-10-recovery-options
