HP EliteBook 8570w Synaptics touchpad/trackpoint buttons and...

Question: HP EliteBook 8570w Synaptics touchpad/trackpoint buttons and...

Hello, I updated my OS to Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except of trackpoint/touchpad. The first issue is really a critical one - trackpoint buttons are practically useless. Single button click causes the mouse click event multiple times - for example opens 6 new cards in a web browser instead of one. I've found another post here describing in detail exactly the same problem but the author didn't get any response, neither from HP nor the community: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-8570w-built-in-mou... The driver delivered with Windows (which is also listed as compatible with Windows 10 on HP's 8570w support site http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5257503&swItemId=ob_152050_1&swEnvOid=419... version 19.0.12.0, causes the problems I mentioned earlier. The updated one from Synaptics website (19.0.19.1) additionaly prevents the OS from detecting the middle button... Additionally, the only gestures I can use are the basic ones - no advanced 3- or 4-finger ones (please don't tell me that the hardware is incompatible because similar gestures worked on Windows 8.1 I used earlier). I have a dual boot with Win10 and Linux and on Linux everything works flawlessly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem What should I do to make my touchpad and trackpoint fully functional?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This morning I suddenly found my touchpad is not working. It was working normally last night. Machine: HP ELITEBOOK 8570WOS: Windows 8.1 64-bit ver Its current state is: no respond upon touching it; double-touching up the upper left courner also no response(if it's working normally, the little light will light up AND THEN the touchpad will stop working coresspondingly.) I have tried following methods: Restart the computer;Reinstall the touchpad's driver to initial state;Update the touchpad's driver to latest version;Download the sp51647 driver, install it(failed); In Device Manager, I can still see the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad under the Mouse and Other Pointer Devices category. The manager says the touchpad is working normally. * What I suspect to be the reason is that, this morning I started the laptop without connecting the AC adapter but only on battery and the voltage is too low for the touchpad to function normally. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Hi there. I've recently started having touchpad problems with my beloved HP EliteBook Folio 9470m.  The issue:The Synaptics TouchPad and its 2 buttons (located just below the touchpad) do not work at all. However, the TouchStyk and its 2 buttons (located at the top of the touchpad) do work perfectly fine. How it started:I factory reset the ultrabook using the Windows 10 menu and when it started back up, everything was cleaned, but the touchpad and its 2 buttons (located below the touchpad) didn't work anymore. External mice do work when plugged. Common solutions that didn't work for me:-The orange light at the top-left of the touchpad is not lit up-Reinstalling the official drivers for Windows 10 (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_166960_1&swEnvOid=419...)-Installing different versions of drivers and even some for other brands of laptops-Resetting Windows 10 many times-Running driver scanning programs (DriversCloud, DriverScanner) Further notes:No matters which driver I install, the touchpad is always missing in the "Mouse properties" window. The last tab of the window should (if I am not mistaken) have both the Synaptics TouchStyk and TouchPad listed, but only the TouchStyk shows up. It appears as if the driver updated and might have corrupted something, or maybe it's overlapping with the old one and it didn't properly overwrite it (I'm running out of ideas...). Someone told me it might h... Read more

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). I am forced to use the laptop with an external mouse. The trackpad and touchpoint themselves both work just can't click anything, I have tried uninstalling drivers and re-installing but that hasn't helped, have also run Hirens boot cd - Mini XP mode and the buttons don't work there either. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but would like a second opinion before I start pulling it apart! Many thanks Chris

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpoint buttons not working

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Firstly I'll explain the freezing issue (this is now the 3rd time I've typed this, as the first two times my laptop froze before I finished!)I run my laptop with the battery at 100% and plugged in and that's fine; as is running it on battery. The problem arises when my battery is low and I plug it into recharge. Soon after it's running on a/c the screen will go black and only way to shut down is by holding the power button. If I try to restart it too soon, the indicator lights next to the power button will illuminate, but the screen will stay black. Usually after 5-10 minutes it'll boot to the IBM screen & boot the rest of the way, but not too long into normal operation it'll go black again (sometimes hitting ctrl/alt/del will bring the screen back but it would be very distorted (pixilized) and would go black again and reboot. What could be causing these problems while recharging the battery? I've tried this with a couple different batteries (both OEM IBM) and it does it with both.  Secondly, both left and right "mouse" buttons are now nonfunctional (though the middle button of the track points works.) I have the latest version of Ultranav Wizard and all the buttons are enabled. The touch pad and trackpoint ball work fine, just the 2 left and 2 right buttons do not. What could be the culprit for this issue? Luckily I have a usb mouse so that's what I'm using for the time being.Message Edited by GoalieFergy53 on 02-14-2009 02:30 PM

Answer:T420 / Win 10 Pro / Ultra Nav 19.00/12.61 = TrackPoint and Touchpad hardware buttons unresponsive

Hello - I had the same problem a few weeks after upgrading from windows 7 pro 64 bits to windows 10 pro 64 bits on my t420s. I tired to replace the hardware without sucess with a new palmrest assembly. Finally I found a solution that fixed it by going to the mouse and trackpad settings in windows 10 and there changing the delay setting for the trackpad to respond - once I had changed that setting everything (trackpad buttons and trackpad) worked again.

Hi there, I have a weird problem. First, I am running Windows 7 beta (build 7100) on my T60 (type 2007), so that could be the reason, and I assume it's probably software related in any case. But anyway, in case some of you have experience with the problem, here goes. The other day the mouse buttons on my UltraNav, for no apparant reason, stopped functioning. The trackpoint is working fine as is the middle scroll-button and the touchpad. But I can't left or right-click. Both the buttons above and below the touchpad are gone. Pretty weird, as the upper mouse buttons are connected through the keyboard-connector-cable and the touchpad and the buttons below that are connected via a seperate cable. I've checked the settings in the UltraNav tab and they're ok, and I'm using the latest driver (9137), and have tried reinstalling it.No luck. Any ideas - besides reinstalling/downgrading Windows, which I'll probably do anyway if nothing else helps?

Hi.My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch. The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

News on this problem: now nothing works except the keyboard. I'm stuck using a usb mouse. The bios config page for keyboard/mouse only shows options for the Fn keys. The laptop also bricked itself briefly and gave an error beep (1, 3, 3, 1) which seems to indicate a problem with the DIMM or system board. What can I do? Will a system restore help or should I just send it back? I need help.

I recently purchased an HP Elitebook 8570W that was supposedly refurbished by an authorized HP service center.  Windows 7 Pro does not update either automatically or manually and when I try to access the HP service center or HP in general, I can't do it.  I probably need to reinstall Win 7 Pro, but is there an easy way to download all of the drivers I'll need without having to do them one at a time?  Thanks!  ~Gary

Answer:Windows 7 of HP Elitebook 8570W

@GeezerG Windows 7 is KNOWN to have Update problems for some time now, so before you do something drastic like completely reinstalling the OS (only to end up with the same problem), let me suggest some things you can do to address the Windows Update problem. I maintain some PCs that still use Win7 (their owners despise Win10) and have found that the steps detailed below help to overcome the hung Windows Update problem ...Download these updates before starting the installation process and copy them to a USB flash drive.KB Links:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3020369https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083710https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3172605NOTE: If Win7 is not already running SP1, then you need to download and install it before running these Updates.Once you have these updates saved, disconnect the network cable or disable the WiFi.Install these updates from the flash drive before connecting to the network and running Windows Update. You have to stop the Windows Update service BEFORE installing each of these. You do that by opening a command window and entering: net stop wuauservNote: If you have a problem with KB3172605, post back as there is a separate fix for that. Then, after you re-enable Windows Update, it should only take 2-4 hours to find and do the updates, not days.Good Luck

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Dear all, I have a EliteBook 8570w using a default HHD and a purchased SSD 500GB in one of the two existing slots. Recently I bought a second SSD for the second available slot, but I don't manage to have it working (I place the SSD in the slot and all fits well, but system does not recognize it). Things I tried so far without success:- Diskpart, miniTool Partition, Samsung Magician- swap the old SSD with the new one. New starts working while old stops working (which to my eyes points out to a slot issue)- Attached, pic with the working SSD slot (green) and not working slot (red) - independently if I change the SSDs is this not working by design? Is there a place where I have to turn it on? Is there something one can do about it? Thanks in advance for any help. Regards, GS

Answer:1 of the 2 available SSD slots in EliteBook 8570w not workin...

Hi, Sorry I have to say: that slot (red) is for the WWAN card, not for a second SSD and no way you can install SSD on it because not all PCIe slots are the same.            More information:      https://www.kingston.com/en/ssd/system-builder/m2_faq Regards.

I have had to replace a hard drive in my Elitebook 8570W (SSD locked up or died) and have downloaded many. many drivers from the HP site, but the machine is still looking for the cd/dvd drivers and I can't find them among my downloads.  I'm replacing the 128GB SSD with a WD 1TB Black, if I can get it to work.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Answer:missing cd/dvd drivers for Elitebook 8570W

Hello @GeezerG Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. If you already installed Windows 7 on this PC, how did you do it ? Using Windows installation DVD or USB pen drive ?Windows should automatically detect the CD/DVD device and usually does not need 3rd party drivers downloaded from anywhere. Your full set of drivers for your PC is located here >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitebook-8570w-mobile-workstation/5257502 Just select Windows > Windows 7 (64 bit)  or the appropriate one for your case.

Hello! I recently received an 8570w with issues. I was told that it may have problems with the motherboard. When I plug the charger (without battery) it powers on automatically: leds are on, cooler is on, display remains black (not even backlit). After a few seconds it stops and it starts again. I guess that if I leave it like that, it will repeat this over and over.Does anyone encountered this issue? I also removed the bios battery (I thought it might help) nd RAMs, but no success.

While I was working couple of days ago, my external monitor suddenly went black. I was using hdmi to displayport converter in order to connect monitor to my laptop. However, even though I have bought a new converter and a new hdmi cable, it is still not working. The interesting part is when I disconnected the cable from my laptop, monitor says "please connect the cable". However, when I connect the cable again, it waits for a while and says "no video output" and when I disconnect, it again says "please connect the cable". So I believe that it is not purely a hardware issue but yet I can get no signal to displayport even if I use linux boot cd, reinstall drivers or reinstall windows.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks in advance. P.S. my graphics card is Nvidia quadro k2000m and I am mainly using my computer for CAD and CAE simulations for designing ships. So larger screen is a must for me.  My external screen is 27" full hd philips gioco.

I own a HP EliteBook 8570W and I'm planning on reinstalling the OS. Because of this, it seems like the perfect time for storage upgrade. I currently have a 500GB HDD and a 24GB SSD for cache storage. I found three options to upgrade the storage: Replace the HDD with a 2.5? SDD with the capacity of 1TBAdd a HDD caddy and put the HDD in there. And use a 500GB 2.5? SDD on the place of the HDDRemove the cache storage and install a 500 GB M.2 SSD Which solutions are possible and would you recommend? Energy consumption doesn?t really matter because I use the notebook primarily with the adapter. The first option costs about twice as much as the other ones and I have a lot of idle data, so I prefer one of the last two options. Thank you for helping!

Answer:Storage upgrade for HP EliteBook 8570W

@Patronium Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! My limited understanding of these "hybrid" PCs is that the SSD is formatted to serve purely as a caching device for Windows, so having a larger one wil not benefit you in any way because nothing is stored there on a permanent basis. You would do better upgrading the HDD to one with larger capacity or to an SSD to replace it, for better performance. Personally, I would go with option 1 as that offers (IMHO) the best improvement in both drive space and runtime performance. If you want to save money, then go with a 500GB SSD instead, as that will still improve runtime performance.Good Luck

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility Replace the BIOS chiphttp://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-... Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,K N R KAlthough I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP

Hi all,

One week ago, I decided to buy a Samsung 840 evo 250gb SSD for my university laptop (HP 8570w). For the OEM HDD, i decided to buy a 'Nimitz' caddy for in the upgrade bay.
As the university covers the insurance and warranty, I was not allowed to install the SSD myself, but had to let their service center do it. And so they did..

After a few days of trouble, they managed to let the laptop run on the SSD, but the secondary HDD in the upgrade bay was not recognized. Their assistance covered only the installing and imaging of windows 7 with the university's VPN software, but the secondary HDD problem wasn't covered.
Therefore, i would like to try to fix the problem myself, ofcourse with a little help if possible

My line of thinking was as follows:
I've heard them switching BIOS setting from IDE or RAID to AHCI.
The secondary HDD was not formatted, and is recognized in BIOS, but not in Windows. Only the SSD is showing up in Windows Device Manager. On the contrary, the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software keeps on posting messages about the HDD drive, saying the status of the HDD is 'incompatible'.

I also saw in Intel RST that the 'internal SSD of 22GB' was also disabled and on status 'incompatible'. I remember the service center saying something about incompatibility between 'internal SSD' and samsung SSD, and therefore they disabled the internal SSD. (I'm sorry for the probably incorrect 'internal SSD' term )

With my little knowledge on HDD installa... Read more

Answer:HP elitebook 8570w. After installing SSD, secondary HDD not recognized

Do you have a PC. try connecting the HDD to it?
Goto Disk Management and check if HDD shown there.
Reinstall Intel RST.
Its IDE by default in my laptop with caddy. Definitely no RAID.

Hi,  I recently acquired an Elitebook 8570w, but there's something wrong with the keyboard. The thing is that when I hit the 'z' button, it registers 'zn', same goes for 'r', which registers 'rq'. So some keys will write 2 letters if I press one or the other. I've allready tried downgrading from the latstes bios and replacing the keyboard with another. The problem also exists in the bios, so it's not Windows related, and an external keyboard works fine. Is it safe to say that this is a hardware issue? Or does anyone have the golden tip for me... Thanks!

I recently purchased a second hand HP ELITEBOOK 8570W and as I was looking for the drivers and softwares I came to notice there are only a few drivers and softwares avaliable for the laptop. Some major and important drivers are missing like Bluetooth, Fingerprint Scanner, HPSA Mobile Broadband. Do you intend to discontinue the product from support or, for which I am hoping, there will be newer updated availed in the near future. It is by far the finest laptop I have ever owned....thought I should just say. Thanks.

Answer:HP ELITEBOOK 8570W WINDOWS 10 DRIVERS & SOFTWARE UPDATE

Hi: Things to try for the fingerprint sensor...use the W8.1 driver from the8570w  support page. Then use the HP Client security manager software from the link below to work the device. http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5405166&swItemId=ob_164558_1&swEnvOid=419... You can try the same (w8.1 driver) for the mobile broadband module. What model wireless network adapter does your PC have?  Do you see a bluetooth radios icon in the device manager? Many folks fail to ensure the bluetooth adapter is turned on prior to upgrading from W7 to W10, and if that is the case, the BT fails to show up in the list of hardware. The only solution to the bluetooth radio not showing up is to install W7, install the HP connection manager software, turn on the bluetooth radio, uninstall the connection manager software, restart the PC, ensure the BT is still turned on, and then go back to W10. If you do not see a full list of drivers, then those devices are not supported by HP for W10. This is a peer to peer forum.  HP maintains no official presence here. If you wish to address your inquiry to HP about driver support, you can do so at the link below. https://ssl.www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/connect-with-hp.html

I just updated to Windows 10 (from Windows 8.1) and noticed that the built-in mouse buttons (the ones just below the spacebar) started working really erratically. When held down, they act likethey are been pressed down repeatedly like 10 times per second.  This of course could be a hardware issue, but they have been working OK for 2.5 years now and it would be quite of a coincidense if they would somehow break at the same moment when I install Windows 10. To demonstrate, I attached an image showing continuous lines drawn in MS paint while holding the mouse buttons down. The ones drawn with the built-in mouse keys are dotted, while other lines drawn with an external mouse are solid lines.  See image here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2130481/hpmousebuttonstutter.png  Interesting thing is that this behavior seems to be a bit random. Sometimes I am able to draw a solid line also with the built-in keys. The other built-in keys (just below the touch pad) seem to work ok, as does the touchpad itself. I downloaded and installed the latest driver from hp.com (sp72041.exe, version 19.0.12.0, date 11.6.2015), but it did not fix the issue. This is very annoying and makes it pretty much impossible to use my laptop without an external USB mouse. Maybe the touchpad driver is incompatible with Windows 10? Please let me know if you need any more details about my setup.

Answer:HP Elitebook 8570w, built-in mouse key stutter (Windows 10)

Update: I installed Synaptics driver version 19.0.19.1 from their site, the problem was still there. I still get dotted line and using the mouse is impossible.   HP: are you aware of this problem and are you working on this with Synaptics? I can use the mouse buttons OK if I uninstall the synaptics driver, but then I get another annoyance: the base of my thumbs accidentally hit the touchpad causing unintended clicks because without the Synaptics driver I cannot disable the touch pad!

My HP Elitebook 8570w has had the same issue since I bought it in 2015. I leave my laptop running all day during working hours. Sometimes I leave for a short period of time and when I return (usually after 10 - 20 minutes) I should be able to just continu working. Most of the time, it works perfectly: I move the mouse, the screen turns back on, I login and continu working. Other times (it seems really at random) I cannot get the screen to turn back on and the fans are running at full speed. The only solution is to turn off the power by holding the power button for a couple of seconds and rebooting the system. I have searched and found multiple people with similar problems, but not the exact same issue. Can anybody assist me to find the source of the trouble and fix it?

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.

Hi - I buy Lenovos because of their trackpoint.  My most recent Lenovo is an X1 Carbon.  I was much surprised to note that the X1 appears to be the first ThinkPad that will no longer allow me to turn off the touchpad from the Mouse Settings.  Never mind - I disabled it for good in the BIOS.  (I would like to have the Mouse Settings back because I occasionally allow touchpad users on my laptop and they simply cannot cope.) Anyway, from day #1 of ownership of this laptop, I noticed some very odd behaviour of the trackpoint:  It simply "wanders off".  It likes the left margin a lot, and the top left corner still more.  It is possible to force the cursor out of this position (by pushing hard against the trackpoint) but as soon as I let go of the trackpoint again, it wanders back. Thing is, the problem will go away after a while.  "a while" may be anything between 10 and 60 secs.  I thought it might be a h/w bug - the trackpoint perhaps being "stuck" and needing to relax - but it occurs so often that I am more inclined to thing it is a driver bug. I believe to be on the latest driver 19.3.4.99 so consider this post as a heads-up - something is still not quite right here. PS:  I am not a geat fan of reboots.  So I have disabled Updates on my Win10Pro.  I was most recently forced into a reboot (first time in 3 months or so) because whenever I clicked the middle mouse button, my screen would turn off.&nbs... Forgive me for cross-posting, but quite a while ago I asked this on the ThinkVantage Technologies board here and have only gotten "Me Too" adds to the thread. I'm hoping ths board and its moderators may be more responsive. I have the latest Synaptics driver V.16.2.5.0 dated 7/5/2012, installed via System Update on a T520 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I prefer to disable the TouchPad and only use the TrackPoint. No matter where I disble the TouchPad, either in the context menu of the notification icon or in the Control Panel Applet, the TouchPad  is always re-enabled on a clean start or re-start. I have manually uninstalled the driver and re-installed the driver to no avail. Since others are having this problem, I was wondering if a fix is in the works.

Answer:Synaptics TrackPoint Driver Does not remember settings.

Yeah I'm having that too with the same driver but on T420s with Win7 64bit Pro also.Fully update etc.

I found a software bug for synaptics driver.  I am using the latest: 18.0.7.40, 5/26/2014, windows 8.1. The bug is related to unreliable middle clicking (not to be confused with TpScroll ), when the user middle clicks on the trackpoint, the OS doesn't register it.  It is possible this is a settings issue, maybe it's a "feature".  If so, can someone provide instructions on how to change it. It seems the synaptics firmware will only pass a middle click to OS if the pointer moves at the same time.  I have not tried this on Linux. To reproduce errant behavior I (this will NOT register a middle click)1. make sure middle clicks are enabled in the mouse properties and TpScroll is off2. make sure you have an application that works with middle click or displays L/M/R click state received by the OS (I am using X-Mouse button control)3. with finger clear of trackpoint, middle click with thumb4. Okay so i've been struggling to find a fix to this and Lenovo support hasn't really been too useful either. Basically the trackpoint is having issues working even with the newest bios, etc. and synaptics driver. It also is having problems with the old driver too?? Could it be in conflict with the new bios update? Lenovo Support gave me the advice to reformatte as it is a "software" issue and to repeat the same above process. Yet the problem still persists.  What steps should I try next?  Lenovo support seems reluctant to give me a hardware exchange Thanks in advance, any advice is open to testing! I'm just fed up with new drivers having bugs like this.

The Yoga is my 1st Windows machine in years. Coming from various MacBook(s) Pro(s) I dearly miss the capabilities and configurability of Apple's multitouch touchpad. While responsibility of the Synaptics device is fairly decent I haven't found an experience that is anything close to the one perceived on the MacBook touchpad. Latter in combination with BetterTouchTool is my weapon of choice when it comes to productivity. It offers almost unlimited configurability, that is, I can design/configure any gesture I desire and link it to a keystroke for instance. It's just perfect since I am not into Apple's predefined gesture settings at all. Now I have spent endless hours in getting this back on my new Yoga. At least I am now able to use 3 finger swipes for back/forward navigation. However, this is just a fraction of what I need/want. That's why I am looking for a way to either be able to modify the driver myself (open source, Lenovo/Synaptics?) or get access to an API I can build on. Obviously I'd prefer latter option. Synaptics is touting their Gesture Suite but I cannot find a download somewhere. I'm afraid it's OEM only. And if that's the config app that comes with the standard Synaptics driver it's just pathetic. So does anyone have a clue on how we can significantly improve the performance of this otherwise very nice laptop? Thanks in advance, stfn

Answer:Yoga 13: any chance for open source Synaptics touchpad driver or touchpad API?

hi stfn-64,my personal opinion on this case, i don't think either lenovo or synaptics will share the main source codes with you or anyone else.at this point, i suggest you to try to update drivers synaptics. it may solve your issue.hope this helps.

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Any ideas how to re-enable TrackPoint scrolling on this newest driver? System details:ThinkPad P50 ? Hey Guys, I'm just wondering if Lenovo has said anything about possibly switching back to tactile buttons for the trackpoint or not? Even if it's an after-market install, I'd still be really interested in this. From what I've used of the new setup, it ruins 1/2 of the reasons I chose ThinkPads and I'm looking for a new laptop, but am unable to justify using the awful new trackpoint buttons. For now I will likely go with an older model, but I was really hoping to get my hands on the t440p with 4 cores so I could actually do virtualization on my laptop. Thanks for any help!

Hi All,

The trusty T61 (14.1" widescreen, 7662) has lost its TrackPoint buttons.  All 3 of them.  Keyboard works, lower TrackPad buttons work.

It looks like the upper buttons are part of the keyboard assembly.  I'll pull the kbd tomorrow and reseat the connector.  Anything else I should check?  Any simple way to determine whether it's a kbd/TP button failure or something else?

i'm hesitant to put much into the machine since it has a discrete GPU.  Running fine so far, but on the "doomed" list.

Thanks,

Been bumbling along quite happily with my ThinkPad 600/2645/45U running on 98SE for quite a while. It's my in-car system.Only a slight niggle. With the trackpoint device, there are three buttons to represent the three mouse buttons. I would like to configure the (currently non-functioning) third button to be the 'double-click' button. However, search as I may, I cannot find a meaningful driver that will allow me to do this. I have found (I hope) a 'contact' facility to ask IBM, but I'm not 100% certain that I found the right one or that I will get a reply.Has any nice person out there had the same 'problem' and found a driver?Chris

Hi, I have a weird problem with my T440p's TrackPoint (running Windows 7 Pro, x86) using out-of-the-box settings. Basically, it seems that its buttons do not work at all - the designated upper regions of the TouchPad (which should supposedly function as TrackPoint dedicated buttons) produce no effect upon clicking. Also, if I disable the TouchPad in the Mouse control panel module (ThinkPad tab), I can no longer click anything and have to resort to keyboard navigation to restore mouse functionality. What is interesting is that this is the second T440p unit I have tried to use the TrackPoint on and failed. The first one was also running Windows 7, but had a different screen (HD+, while the current one is Full HD) and CPU (2-core i5 vs. current 4-core i7). How do I use the TrackPoint buttons, again? Cause it's obvious by now that it does not work the same way as on my trusty X220 machine...

Hi there, a buddy of mine got a ibm r52 laptop recently from a relative that sat for a few months. anyways, it was given to him and it worked great for about a week then he noticed issues with the keyboard, trackpoint, scroll pad and buttons not working sometimes after boot.
And when they dont work...they dont work. Its not a on and off thing...its either or.

So he has me looking at it...

I dont think its a big issue b/c the keyboard will ALWAYS work when i want to go into the BIOS. I loaded up a Acronis TI boot disk and the keyboard and trackpoint worked fine...but then i tried it again and only the keyboard worked and no trackpoint or pad.

So far i have tried updating the BIOS and embedded controller to the latest with no luck.
Ive also tried a quick fresh install....no luck...still either on or off.

However, if i plug my usb wireless mouse in the mouse cursor works fine...always...

So i guess my next step is to open her up, but im waiting to hear back on any suggestions first....and i got to find a service manual for it...
Thanks for reading.

Hey everyone, I disconnected my keyboard the other day to shake out some dirt, and upon reconnecting it found that my TrackPoint buttons were dead.  The TrackPoint itself is fine and no other keyboard buttons seem to be affected.  The backlight works well too.  I've attempted to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard to no avail.  I'm worried that the flatflex cable has a broken trace, but visual inspection seems to say that everything is good.  Anyone else experienced this problem?  Does this seem like a case for buying a new keyboard? Thanks!  Please let me know if I should reference another discussion.  I couldn't find any existing threads.

Answer:Dead TrackPoint Buttons on T430

Hi, I have the same problem with my keyboard and the backlit is not working either. I called Lenovo to get it replace. They're sending me a new keyboard.

T450 with Windows 10. Trackpoint and the three buttons on top of the trackpad are not working. Trackpad is working fine. In the mouse options under trackpoint properties the trackpoint is disabled and the slider to enable it is greyed out. in bios the trackpoint is enabled. I tried to update the driver but it says it is up to date. help please!

Answer:T450 trackpoint and buttons not working

Hello! Both the trackpoint and the buttons above the touchpad have stopped working on my Thinkpad T450.

The trackpoint stopped working awhile ago, while the buttons above the touchpad stopped working the other day, perhaps meaningfully around the time that a lenovo program on the computer did a 'standard' hardware scan.

Another problem is that my access to the standard support features of the lenovo website have been compromised as the main website will not recognice my Serial Number. The 3rd party website through which you organise on-site support does recognise the serial number, so I know that I am typing it correctly. However I am loath to organise on-site support for a problem which hopefully should be simple to solve.

Thanks.

Hello, I have a Lenovo X230 and have a quick question, is it possible to disable the TrackPoint knob (the red knob) while keeping the buttons active? Disabling TrackPoint through the UltraNav driver results in having both the knob and the buttons disabled, the same thing goes for disabling it in the BIOS. Note that this model only has those two buttons build in while newer Lenovo models has two pairs of buttons (above and below the TrackPad). See: http://cdn.asia.cnet.com/story_media/62218216/1.jpg

Answer:X230 - Disable TrackPoint but not buttons?

you can in a way. Just select advanced feature only within the ultranav selection for the trackpoint. This way the trackpoint nib would only act as page scroller and won't move the pointer per se. Then you can switch the trackpoint sensitivity to firm touch. This is what i do for people whom can't use trackpoints.

Lenovo finally reverted back to the 3-button trackpads in their lineup after the disaster no-button clickpada.  I'm very glad about that except that I am stuck with a First Generation Thinkpad Yoga with the dreaded clickpad and want to upgrade it  to the new 3-button trackpad version found on the Second generation Thinkpad Yoga (just released).  Does anyone know the part number of that trackpad?  I can't get a part number from tech support because they keep asking me for a machine serial number and I don't have a Thnkpad yoga 2nd gen machine!  Does anyone know if these parts can be swapped?  (I'm hoping the dimensions and connections are identical).  Any info in this matter would be greatly appreciated.  If you think Lenovo should send folks a replacement 3-button trackpad to replace the clickpads, please voice your opinion! Thanks

Answer:Trackpoint upgrade to 3 dedicated buttons

Hei there .I was wondering the same thing.I really was on the point and i think i will though ,post a thread regarding the same question. It would be possible to swap that garbage trackpad with the new generation from yoga 2nd gen ,with buttons !? They are indeed the same size and have the same conectors ?If yes i think this modd will work for sure ,if not ,i think we`ll have to endure with this type of trackpad

My E520 Thinkpad is only a few weeks old.  The first time I used it the trackpoint and buttons worked, but since then the red pointer works, but the buttons do not.  I have tried to download the driver update for the ultra nav several times, but once it tries to finish the box just scrolls forever and the installation does not happen.  I am not even sure this will repair the problem.  Also, I have not been able to download the Diagnostic Tool without an error.  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:E520 - Trackpoint buttons do not work

Forgot to mention the touchpad and touchpad buttons work fine, but I prefer to use the track point.

The 3 physical buttons below the space bar, they aren't working.  The keyboard, the trackpoint stick and the touchpad ARE all working.  Just the 3 buttons don't work. I even tried unplugging/reseating the keyboard from the motherboard, it's all secured nicely, no dust or obstructions. Windows 8.1 installation (previously buttons working on this same install) I have tried almost everything.  Basically I didn't even notice anything was wrong because for months I was working with an external mouse and keyboard.  Then today, when I went back to work on the laptop without the external mouse/keyboard, I noticed the problem. Everything else is working.  I updated to the latest ultranav drivers.  I'm thinking there is something screwy somewhere in the registry or with some windows update or something?  Any suggestions very much appreciated.

Answer:Trackpoint physical mouse buttons not working

*bump* Issue still not resolved.  Anyone have any ideas? After lots of searching it seems it might be a fuse on the motherboard?  Would the fuse, as mentioned here...http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=100537...does any one know if that fuse (or something simillar to it on the x220) would allow for the point stick, the trackpad and trackpad clicks and all the keyboard keys to work, and only the signiture lenovo 3 mouse buttons not to work?? Without the 3 buttons my pointing stick is useless, and I always much prefer that option to the trackpad as I can use it while leaving my hands on the keyboard in typing position. I'm now thinking it's either a fuse, as described in the above link, or it is some sort of odd registry error or windows setting/update conflict or something like that. In a few days when I have more time, I am going to load Ubuntu on a memory stick, and live boot it without the need to install and see if the buttons work there.  They should be picked up as a regular mouse via default drivers.  If it's not working their, then it's a hardware or bios issue. Anyone who knows better, please inform me.  -cheers

Is it just me, or do the X230's trackpoint buttons seem really low? They don't seem to have a bump in the front that makes them easy to press. This in addition to how slippery and low the point is compared to the one on my X201 makes pointing and clicking a miserable experience.

Hi Guys,I've had a problem with the screen of my X100e that I started to notice a few months after purchasing it. Basically the TrackPoint & its buttons have gradually worn marks into the screen. It happened so gradually at first that I didn't really notice it unless the screen was under bright lights, but now it's to the point of being (pardon the pun) an eyesore.I contacted Lenovo by their online technical support feedback form. I also contacted them directly by email. I also took photographs highlighting the evidence. My problem is that my warranty is now extinct. Between 'trying' to contact Lenovo & getting to this point I had the usual sickness & family issues one tend to have to deal with while a warranty is slowly clicking away...I've had no further contact from Lenovo. I was wondering where I stand. I still have the copies of the emails I sent while my warranty was valid. I've also kept the photographs I took while my warranty was still valid.I wouldn't usually worry but I've come to love my little X100e & now the screen impacts the quality of watching movies, etc.As Lenovo doesn't answer my emails, can anyone offer any advice or information regarding having seen this particular issue before. Phone support in Australia hasn't been the best either, btw...Many thanks in advance,Simon ParsonsPS. The synaptics settings have the trackpoint unticked (disabled) and greyed out, its not possible to enable it there. The BIOS is updated and the trackpoint is enabled in there.  Does anyone have an idea how to enable the trackpoint?(sidenote the touchpad functions well)

Could someone from Lenovo let the forum know if it will be possible to replace the W540 Trackpad / Bezel / Keyboard assembly with the new one from the W541 which has integrated physical Trackpoint buttons.  This would make a very big difference to me and I suspect a lot of other W540 owners who use the Trackpoint. I am the current owner of 5 Thinkpads and have been a loyal customer since the 600 series. The increased pressure necessary to generate a less reliable click on the Trackpad has greatly exacerbated a problem with the top joint of my right thumb - I have had to retrain myself to use my left thumb to do all clcking.  The problem was nowhere near as bad on the old Trackpoint buttons - where I could use them with my right thumb for several hours with no symptoms, I can now manage only minutes.

Answer:Replace W540 Keyboard with W541 Trackpoint Buttons

Add me to the list of W540 that wish to have a real workstation with original IBM style trackpad WITH BUTTONS! Similarly, we need to somehow add an LED to indicate HD I/O's. Maybe integrate this into the new PROPER trackpad. Example: Right now I'm copying off my NAS, 2.5 gig of PDF files catalogued by Calibre. The transfer has been running over 2 hours and only 35% done, and I have NO IDEA if data is transferring when the screen blanks out.  Thankfully, Western Digital's external Passport drive has an LED that flashes with the I/O, and this is the ONLY indicator that tells me the NAS data flowing and being backed up to the USB drive. Crypting does slow the data. Now, I realize that what I'm doing is not the best - using my WiFi connect for the transfer and USB 3.0 -, which is slow on this 'marketing promoted' Workstation. Hopefully I stuck it in the right port, as none are color blue identified, left front. ....  I'm blue <g>.

I've just gotten what I hoped would be an awesome new T540p.  So far, the experience is going horribly because I can't seem to use the Trackpoint reliably.  Specifically, when I click the trackpoint button on either side - left or right -(virtual buttons along the top edge of the clickpad), absolutely nothing happens.  No right click menu, no mouse click - no action of any kind is recorded.  Let me be clear - the clickpad is visibly and fully depressed.  There is no doubt at all that the clickpad has been depressed.  But there is no actual mouse click action.   In order for me to get a reliable "click" out of the Trackpoint click area on the clickpad, I have to move my thumb down and in to the tracking area of the clickpad.  This is very awkward and involves wrist movement.  Compare this to the superior design of the old T530 trackpoint buttons - they are angled and shaped so that they are perfectly located to be pressed by your thumb without having to bend your thumb or move your wrist, your fingers get to stay right on the home row where they belong. Lenovo:  I use and love the TrackPoint.  It and the keyboard are the reason I purchase thinkpads.  Without it, I could and would buy any other manufacturer.  Please put my TrackPoint buttons back.  Or at least let me choose to order the T540 with a T530 keyboard/trackpad so that we have a choice!  I would easily pay an extra... Answer:T540p Trackpoint - clicking virtual buttons on clickpad gives no response

You are not the only one experiencing these problems. For a TrackPoint user the new "clickpad" is a physically flawed design. Too much pressure is required for a click, and the erratic behavior has not disappeared with any of the driver updates.  It seems that the whole physical desing of the "clickpad" without separate mouse buttons is flawed. The ergonomics of the keyboard not very good either. I do not know any TrackPoint user who thinks the new desing usable at all. Some people liking it have written about it, but apparently most of the people who like the new desing are not TrackPoint users who do not move their hands when writing.

I don't trust myself to write in depth, as my anger grows with the removal of yet more features that set ThinkPads apart from the competition. Lenovo's design department is driving us diehard users to scorn the reliable series of tools we long recommended for purchasing in the tens to thousands. What's left to set ThinkPads apart? Why should we be loyal to a brand that isn't loyal to us? ThinkLight: useful for far more than keyboard illumination, such as book reading, and a long time key differentiatorTrackPoint: hard buttons are superior, every reviewer and user comments I've read agreevendor lock-in to Lenovo hardware: https://www.change.org/petitions/lenovo-release-an-unencumbered-version-of-the-biosKeyboard: you have removed keys that power users use -- the dedicated customer base for ThinkPads and your most fervent supporters

As title says, I'm having big problems with a memory leak from the touchpad driver. I've updated to the latest driver, but it still happens. This morning, the process was using 6.5 GB of ram! This is ridiculous. 2nd issue is with the volume controls on the keyboard. They only work 50% of the time. I've reinstalled the driver, but it still happens. I have to manually change the volume in windows for the buttons to start working. Anyone know any solutions to these problems? Thanks

So far, Lenovo has ignored threads reporting these problems.

The new 2014 X1 Carbon got rid of the physical buttons for the trackpoint.   I am adjusting to that.  However, in more than one unit we are piloting we have an issue. A user that mainly uses the TrackPoint stick, will use their right thumb to left click constantly.  We are finding it to not be consistent.  And it often results in the user having to click twice on things. We have tried to adjust the "Edge Tap Filtering" - though I don't think that is related, as that is focused on taps, not clicks. Some people tried to turn off the "middle button" and focus there thumb more towards there.Overall, we believe the adapative keyboard, the physical keyboard changes and the trackpad button changes are all things people can evolve and get used to.   HOWEVER, if left-clicking is not accurate, it will drive people crazy and hurt our forecasted 500+ unit order. I am praying this can be resolved by a driver update.

All,Trackpoint stopped showing any reaction and the "upper" three buttons under the spacebar do not work. In the UltraNav tab of the Synaptics mouse setup the Trackpoint pane is greyed out. I reinstalled the driver and "Utility" for UltraNav. Searching here and on the web -- so far no specific fix. I don't know what caused this, but I think I did try to install software to enlarge the area under the cursor a while back because I had to give a software demo in a big room. Well, I remember considering it but I don't remember whether I actually ran anything. And I have used the machine a lot since then and I can't imagine I haven't tried navigating dialogs, Explorer, etc., without using the trackpoint. So I think it is a very recent change. Win7 Pro 64-bit. Answer:w520 Trackpoint dead, pad and lower buttons OK -- Driver/Utility reinstalled

I read a reference to the Fn+F8 key command and find that on my machine this DOES display the three-choice dialog -- with my trackpoint off ("Enable trackpad only") "Bingo!" I thought. But changing the setting to what I need does not change the machine. Changing to the center choice ("Enable trackpoint only") works on the track pad (no longer responds) but does not wake up the track point as it should. This center setting is persistent. It's the top setting that cannot be chosen. The dialog disappears the second I click on that choice.  Some of the other ThinkPad FN combos are not present on this w520 and have never been. For example the projector toggle. So I never used any of them.... But now I have to dive into the Lenovo configurations, perhaps. But I hope this Fn+F8 behavior is a clue. jonathan7007

OK, T60 Notebook and suddenly the TrackPoint and TouchPad stopped working.  I checked under the ThinkVantage tools and they are enabled.  I checked in the BIOS and the device(s) are enabled there as well.  I've had a TouchPad go bad before but the TrackPoint still worked.  Kinda strange both would go down at the same time.  So, in short: 1.  Has anyone out there experienced this and if so, how did you fix it?2.  Does anyone have the part number for a replacement TouchPad (I've searched the site and could find dang near everything else, but the TouchPad) TIA!

Answer:TouchPad and TrackPoint

They're integrated parts of the palm rest. A cable connects all integrated parts of the palm rest to the machine. So I guess the cable isn't plugged in firmly enough. Remove the palm rest according to the hardware manual and check. If the cable has no problem, contact Lenovo to ask for a replacement palm rest.

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

So I am at the end of my rope with my laptop's touchpad. I can not disable the tap-to-click option, and because of this I am CONSTANTLY clicking on things every time I type or do anything.

Also, the scroll does not work.

I have searched through all of the mouse options and there is not one single option anywhere for tapping or scrolling.

I have updated the driver. I have uninstalled the driver and tried installing an older version of the driver. I can't find anything that will give me these options, no matter which drivers I install.

I am using Windows XP, on a Dell Inspiron 6000. According to the hardware tab, I am using a Synaptics PS/2 Pointing Device.

Please, please, PLEASE help! Please!

I am not a fan of the touchpads on laptops. I have always disabled them and used a notebook mouse instead. While this may make for some difficulty while traveling, I don't inadvertantly select, click or move the cursor while keyboarding.

Question: Synaptics Touchpad

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad

Hi,The issue you have mentioned and the error you attached clearly state that there is an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers on the system. To resolve the issue, I suggest you uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers completely from the system through Control Panel, Add/Remote programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Win Vista). After complete uninstallation, please restart the system. Download the latest drivers from the following weblink and then install the software. This will definitely resolve the issue.http://www.synaptics.com/support/driversHope this information helps.Regards,Vidya

The touchpad worked fine before I disabled it but when I tried to enable it again it would not work.  The Device Manager says that the driver  is up to date.  I  uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it again to no avail.   The Device Manager says that the touchpad is installed and working fine but actually does not work.  Can anyone help me correct this problem?

Question: Synaptics touchpad

I would like to mention that upgrading to Windows 10 on 2 HP laptops. On the one that is older which had the synaptics driver 15.3.29.0 the tapping worked fine, on the newer unit the driver was current with version 19. something. With attempting to adjust the synaptics using the up to date driver there was real no satisfaction. I deleted it and installed the 15.3.29.0 driver and it works great..

Hope this helps someone...

my Compaq Presario 2195US notebook touchpad stopped working properly; the pointer moves and the buttons work, but the tap feature is gone. all looks okay in Control Pad/mouse; I checked pointer setting in BIOS and tried AUTO and BOTH. I downloaded and installed the latest driver, just in case, but no change.

help?

Question: Synaptics Touchpad

Hey, can I uninstall the synaptics touchpad in my laptop, and reinstall it again? Synaptics is not running on start-up but it is activated in msconfig, and CCleaner. Is it safe to uninstall and reinstall it again? If I uninstall it, will my touchpad still operate?

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad

Hi, kyzersoze.

You'll be fine. On my Toshiba, I've done it at least a half dozen times for various reasons - none which are important here.
