Preferred Solution: How to recover data from a unallocated (deleted), BitLocker enabled partition?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have a good day,
I have 1 physical drive 80Gb, divided into 2 partitions: C and D
C is System (WinXP)
D is Data
Yesterday, i got a virus. I rebooted, and used Acronis True Image to restore backup from Secure Zone (this backup was for Partition C). Secure Zone was ok, but Partition C and D were unallocated. I recovered partition C by using a backup in Secure Zone. After recovering, partition D was still unallocated.
I didn't do anything since then.
When i run Partition Magic 8, i saw this unallocated partition
Will my data in partition D be lost when i resize Partition C to 80Gb
Please help me to recover my data in partition D,
it was very important to me !!!

I'm wating for your advices

Thanks and Best Regards

You may never be able to recover your files but it should be very easy to go into your disk management and create a new partition.

I have a usb jump drive that I was using in fixing a computer. I copied very important data to the drive and then went on to reformat and install windows.

In the process of setting up the partitions of the hard drive I inadvertently deleted the partition on my jump drive.

I need to get this databack. The only program that seems to work is "Data Recovery Wizard" Unfortunatly it costs 70 dollars to save the files it recovers. I dont have this kind of money.

I need this data if it is at all possible to recover I would like to get it right away. ASAP

Hello members,

Hope you all are doing great. This is my first post & I am feeling very tensed right now. I was using disk management tool on windows 10 to delete the volume E. However by mistake I deleted the volume D & unallocated space increased .

After that I created new volume called Y out of the unallocated space. At this point I realized that I lost my D drive which has all my valuable data worth 30 GB.

Is there any way to recover the files and partition ? I tried easeus and it recovered the partition but with empty contents.

Please help me as my all work is stored on D drive and I am in wierd situation & totally scared about how do I explain this situation to my boss.

Hope someone will help me out...

I deleted a partion using the windows 7 installer disk. Unfortunately I was a bit click happy and deleted my secondary drive (one partition if you call it that, as it took up the whole disk). This is my data drive. I keep everything there including a lot of very large, multimedia files that I cannot live without. After picking my heart back up out of my shoe I started asking for help and downloading as many free tools as I can. None of them have worked satisfactorily. Find and Mount looked extremely promising, saying it would find a mark on the HDD where a partition had been made previously and then allowing me to mount a read only version, then copying all the files as though the partition had never been damaged, if I wanted. Funnily enough not only did it fail to find a visable or lost partition on this drive, it even failed to find working partitions on any other drive. Pfft.I've tried Paragon Partition Manager. It told me my drive had errors and to run chkdsk. I did this but it didn't help. The programme had the same errors when I tested it on another drive. Another pfft.I tried EASEUS Partition Manager. It found the files... but it copied all 253 gb of them as 'raw' files or something like that. This means they were completely out of order, no folders and renamed 'file001.jpg' etc. This is useless for me as a lot of my files are .RARs that need to be in a sequence to option or similar issues and also with over 25000 files I cannot be arsed o... I received a 2 gb olympus sound recorder which I was asked to restore to normal fuctionality, and restore some mp3s that were presumably recorded on it.

The file system appears to be intact, so I can read from it, but there are two noticeable changes to the device.
First, it seems to have been infected with a version of the RECYCLER virus, which turned all the folders into links which point to the virus itself.
One of those folders are thought to contain the mp3 file in question.
Second, the device seems to have been bitlocker enabled, but it does not need any encryption key.

Now, I don't know, in what order did these events happened; I only need a confirmation, that no data can be recovered once deleted, either before or after bitlocker is enabled.

Answer:Can deleted files be recovered on a bitlocker enabled device?

there's a chance you can recover the mp3s
you need to rely on professional file recovery tool to get them back. A popular one is Asoftech Recovery. This tool can deep scan your computer and recover your lost files back without requiring extra skills. Here is the steps might be helpful to you:
1. Download this program on your compute. here is the link: Photo Recovery: Restore your lost photo
2. Install and start the program, select the drive where your lost files located, click Start. Now the scanning process will start to search the deleted files. After a while you will then get a list of recoverable files.
3. Press Recover to perform full recovery.
hope this helps..cause the files are infected too.

This is really easy if you use a 3rd party app like Paragon disk suite. Free to try

1-delete partition with no drive letter
2-expand the HP partition

Thats it

Hi guys
I've spent nearly all day on this problem.
I recently upgraded to a larger SSD, ran a fresh install of Window7 Prof. I noticed that the Terra-byte drive now has half of its size partitioned. I do not remember doing this and have been unsuccessful in trying to get it undone. I have browsed this forum and read all that I could find relevant. I am unable to get any response from the unallocated partition of D drive. Any right click command is greyed out. All the advice I have tried has had no remedy... please help!!!!!!!
Hope the image below works and helps.
Thanks

Answer:How do I recover unallocated hd partition?

I hate to tell you this but your install is IMHO all screwed up.
You say you did a fresh/new install of Win 7 Pro.
Well it seems you left the other hard drives in the system when doing this and you did not move the new SSD to the top of the drive list in the bios before you started the install.
Which made the install routine see the TB drive as the first drive in the system. Windows ALWAYS copies files to the FIRST drive in the system when installing. In this case it created the 100MB system reserve partition on the TB drive where it should of been placed on the new SSD drive.
What all this means is if you remove the TB drive the system will not boot.
I would suggest you start over making sure either the new SSD drive is the only drive in the system when doing the OS install or that it is listed in the BIOS as the first drive in the system and connected to SATA port 1 with the other drives also connected.

I personally would do a new fresh install with only the SSD in the system connected to SATA port 1.

Hello. I was recovering my OS (win 8) when a disk error occurred which did not allow me to access the partition which has the recovery files. Eventually I installed an OS but found a partition with needed files has become unallocated space. I would like to allocate the 300 gig partition and also recover the files if they are there. I do not want to merge it with the C: drive. I thought I was protecting my files by saving to a separate partition in the event the OS need be re installed.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Recover files from a unallocated partition 8.1

It's possible the original partition table was wiped when you reinstalled. The best way to approach it is to recover the files first but you will need a recovery drive with at least the same amount of space as the data you plan to recover.

Download Testdisk for Windows. Unzip to a folder on the desktop and run it. Do a Quick Search. Is should pick up a number of partitions on the drive. Highlight each and press the "P" key until you find the files you are looking for. If not then do a Deeper Search. If you do find your files,  you can recover all of them by pressing "a" and then upper case "C" or highlight individual files/directories by pressing the ":" key and then upper case "C" to copy.

Because the default location of recovery is the folder you started Testdisk from, it would be best to unzip the testdisk folder to a external drive with enough capacity to recover all  your data and start the program from that folder.

Here is a step by step guide using Testdisk.

I'm just installing my notebook from scratch. I set up a dual boot with Fedora 27 and Windows 10 Pro.
Both OSes are installed on the same SSD (1 TB). The system is EFI with Secure Boot activated.
First of all I installed Win10 on a 200GB partition. Afterwards Fedora installer was used to install Fedora (250GB space) alongside Win10 together with Grub boot loader. Everything fine so far.
My idea is to setup the remaining space of 500GB as a NTFS partition which will then be shared among the both OSes.
I formatted it from the Linux OS with NTFS and mounted it. Everything worked fine.

Once I boot into Windows 10, it automatically changes the partition type to "NTFS (bitlocker encrypted)" - without any user intervention or input. At the next boot in Linux it refuses mounting because it doesn't know of Bitlocker...

I already tried switching off Bitlocker via Group Policy editor but that behaviour remains the same.

Any hints how to get rid of this?

Cheers

Hi,

I'm trying to recover the data (including some treasured family photos) from a Western Digital 320GB HDD that died in my sister's desktop HP PC using my Windows 7 work Dell laptop. I can only see the disk using Disk Management, where it shows as unallocated.

The drive itself failed (was making horrible clicking noises) and I have since replaced the board using a duplicate drive bought from eBay. I have been following advice from this thread, and have been running a so-called 'quick scan' using the free version of Mini Tool Partition Wizard Home Edition's Partition Recovery Wizard. It's been running for over 5 days now on a 320GB drive, and is only a fraction of the way through.

So my question is this, am I wasting my time doing the 'quick scan'? At this rate I will be lucky if it finishes before Christmas. Please someone tell me there's a faster way?

Answer:How can I recover data from HDD now showing as Unallocated?

The number of sectors shown on the PRW image seems way too large for a 320GB HDD. Usually when a partition is lost the HDD has died or is dying. The clicking noise you heard is evidence the drive is gone. There's only two moving parts in an HDD, the spinning disks/platters and the Voice Coil Relay that moves the arms that hold read/write heads across the disk/s, the clicking is from the VCR 'snapping' the arms back against the stop/rest.

I was trying to create recovery media on a USB stick for my new laptop but for some reason it wasn't working. I kept trying it and eventually it worked. A while later I came to access my USB hard drive but it wasnt showing up in My Computer. I checked Disk Management and found my USB HDD had a 32gb RAW partition and a 2.7TB Unallocated Space partition.

So it looks like the recovery media application was trying to write to my USB HDD instead of my USB stick. It obviously didn't write anything to the HDD as the 32gb partition is a RAW format.

I have tried two pieces of partition recovery software but they only find loads of little partitions.

I haven't tried any file recovery software yet. I was hoping I could use partition recovery software.

Could anyone help me out?

Hi. My main internal hard drive expired unexpectedly, but in a complete and spectacular fashion. Still not sure what happened, but was not too bothered as all my important and unreplaceable data was backed up on my external drive (baby pictures, music collection, etc.).

I threw in another hard drive I had lying round (had Windows 98 on it) and tried to install WIN XP Pro from the CD.

I managed to do this OK, but when I tried to find my external drive it's not there. Computer Management lets me see the disk but it's got a black line underneath which says it's unallocated.

Anyone know how to restore or make a new partition without completly loosing these files?. I've searched all the topics that I can find of the forum, but really don't know what I'm doing, so decided to seek advice before really screwing it up.

Thanks for your help.
Aaron.

Answer:Recover Unallocated Partition on Xternal Drive

Somehow the MBR / partition tables on the external must have become corrupted. Needless to say all recovery actions are dangerous.

Below someone who had similar type of issue and who fixed it.

Prior to attempting this, I would try to copy your data off the drive and to this end would suggest using Puppy Linux which may (probably) be able to read the data.

See post below as to how to do this.

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=187443

There are other avenues which can be followed for data retrieval some swear by Data Doctor. You may even use the suggestion made by the user in the top post ie Partition Find & Mount.

I must have been lapsing in concentration on Friday. I was restoring an image from a backup drive partition and stupidly pulled the power supply for that drive thinking it was the printer. (I know - don't grin like that!)
The upshot is that the NTFS partition became unallocated. About 350Gb. Any tried and tested solutions or am I resigned to reconstructing the backups as best I can? It's impossible to replicate some of the material on there anyway.
I have tried Recuva which is hopelessy inadequate although it found some picture files and reported that the they had not been overwritten.

I installed Windows 10 on a new PC, with OS on Samsung 950 PRO. For data disk, at this stage, I use a Samsung 840 PRO which I transferred from my old 8.1 PC.

The data disk now shows in diskmanagment 351MB unallocated space, and 119 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition).
How can I reclaim the 351MB unallocated to get maximum capacity of the data disk?
Maybe this a standard case of repartitioning, but I am not familiar with that and do not know how to do it.

As I said in the title, I was using 3tb+unlock to open up the last terabyte of space on my 3tb drive and even without me telling it, it just assumed that I wanted the 1tb hard drive that I save my family photos on to unallocate.

As the drive is dying but not there yet...hense the new drive...the drive still works and still had some information that I needed to save and now it is gone. I explained it badly but how to I restore an 'unallocated' space to what it was before without spending a lot of money on a new program. Is their a free one or one around $10 dollars that will do this simple thing.

The program I was using when this is done is the program that came with the hard drive "3TB+ Unlock" and the maker of the drive is Western Digital. I just need to undelete the partition and get at least most of it back if possible.

Answer:I accidently deleted a needed partition and now it is 'Unallocated'.

You can't restore a deleted partition. But, you can create a new partition that takes up all of the unallocated space and run Recuva which is a data recovery tool: http://www.filehippo.com/download_recuva/

A 250 gb partition in my 500GB Corsair Force LS SSD ATA hd stopped working.

I have decided to reinstall windows (win 7 pro sp1 64bit), deleting/merging the faulty partiotion.
In the installation proccess, I succeeded in the deletion of the partition,
but to my surprise, the list showed me 2 options of drives to intall to; a 250gb (my c: drive)
and a 476GB option. (750GB drive?! surly somthings wrong if the system/hd can't understand that the two options are of the same drive and actually make up 500gb total)...

After intalling, under disk managment, I tried to create a new simple volume out of the 476gb of unallocated space and succeeded but failed formating it (saying "windows was unable to complete the format").

what can i do?
how can I restore my HD to its 500gm state?

Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Evening

Well... I tried to merge a partition with Partition Magic and half way through it give me an error "1523: cluster beyond end" and now the part i tried to merge has become unallocated.

I've looked around on the internet (and here) but not found much info on how to recover the data left in the unallocated part, the stuff on the drive is not all that important but I'd much prefer to have it than not have it!

Some of the things i tried...
Ran check disk with both options ticked - fixed something (or so it said!) but still unallocated
Tried to run the Partition Magic undelete option - "Access violation at address 004b8016 in module 'PMagicnt.exe'. Read of address 0000004C" after about 40sec's

Read something on the web that increasing the partition size will allow access to the data after the process is finished, but was a little bit skeptical about it.

Any help would be awesome!

Cheers

Hello Dears. I had encrypted my drive by Bitlocker in windows 7.
few days after my friend did quick format in my encrypted drive.
my 300 gb of data lost. and nothing saved
i remember unlock password.
how can i recover my data ??? i need my data
i tried drive recovering tools (advanced EFS data recovery, easeus . . ,) . but . . . it's encrypted and formatted drive.
can i undo quick format and decrypt ???
sorry my english is not good.
someone help me please.

Answer:Can i recover lost data from encrypted drive by Bitlocker

BitLocker is not the cause of failed to recover files. Format a drive will clear all data saved on the hard disk. Thus recovery formatted data will be a hard disk based technology but not related to operation system. There is no build-in data recovery feature in Windows operations. So we will needto use third party recovery tool or contact third party data recovery company for current issue.

As recovery missing data service will be expensive, we can also check emails and contact friends to see if that can help get a part of files back especially for photos, documents etc.

I need advices about how can I solve my issue:

I have an external drive. I started the encryption drive with bitlocker, during encryption process,
the drive has been disconnected so I wasn?t able to continue the encryption process.

Now, the drive is partially encrypted. When I want to access the drive, I got the error message
?Encryption Failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion?.

I would like a procedure to recover the remaining data: encrypted and non encrypted

I used M3 Bitlocker Recovery but the tool freezes, I am currently trying TestDisk 7.0. Analysis
is in progress.

You'll find attached screenshots and detailed description of the situation.

I have the passwords & recovery keys

I purchased a new Motherboard to upgrade my computer and new SSD drive. I installed Windows 7 again on my new SSD. I had a 3TB Seagate Drive that had 3 partitions. One partition had Windows 7 and system files. The other two had data. Now, one of my data partitions shows as Unallocated. The old Windows 7 partition is totally accessible as well as one data partition. I need to recover the data on the drive from the unallocated partition. I've tried Seatools and EaseUs partition tool. I'm going to try DiscInternals next.

Does anyone have suggestions on recovering a partition that is now unallocated? I imagine the data is still there but the partition isn't being recognized by Windows 7.

Thanks

Answer:Lost Partition - Now Unallocated - Data Recovery

Try a simple partition undelete using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

If that doesn't work try data recovery software.

Your data should always be backed up externally or to the cloud, using a modern method like Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums

2003 server with 3-63gb drives in Raid 5. Added 2-73gb via open manage and are ready to go.

Go into Disk management and I see C: 30gb NTFS Healthy primary, F: data 106gb NTFS Healthy primary, and now 136gb unallocated.

I need to add the unallocated to my f: data.

1st should I partition it as extended?

2nd can I add it to my F: data drive with diskpart or use some other software?

Have setup and installed many servers, but never added drives after the unit was in service.

Will any of this cause me to lose data? This is my domain/exchange server.

New Member: Perhaps I'm slow to learn due to my autism, but after 20 minutes I finally found out why it kept saying, "Leave a valid message." I couldn't find the place where you write your message! MESSAGE... My 3T HD suddenly has lost its data, says it is unallocated, is not recognised by the computer, has no drive letter and the only way I can see it is by using a 3rd party software that says it has no partition anymore. I have thousands of songs I've created on it in the last 5-6 years and want the whole partition restored to normal with all of the data intact. It is also saying it is a LOGICAL partition now and it's all greyed out. Can anybody help me?

I came to this site and joined as a member because I googled for a search to find FREE partition restoration software that was not limited. That brought me to here, where I found what I was looking for, so that the FREE partition restoration software would not leave me hanging with only helping me restore a portion of the data I want to retrieve off my HD when I want to retrieve it all! Still don't know how to go about it, but at least I now have an expired pro version of partition retrieval software I'm confident and hopeful will aid me! I have confidence and faith I will retrieve the identical partition tree structure with folders and files plus all data intact... even though others have told me my HD is toast!

Hi,
please help
how can I recover data from a damaged disk (not physically) of an external encrypted Bitlocer.
Description of the situation:

After connecting the drive - I can decipher it by typing the password - but when you try to open the contents of the report the message "format disk"
- the disk probably has some volume damaged - it has been disconnected from the computer (without being turned off)
What I have done so far:

Using the "Lazesoft" program - I managed to copy (of course after entering the password
on the damaged disk)
the content to another external disk (full - looking after size) but -
this data is encrypted (mainly ending with .ER)
I am asking for a hint:

whether the data that is on the new disk can somehow read (on this disk I can try) [or/and]how to create a damaged disk image to try on another disk [or/and]how to repair a damaged disk (as a last resort) - I am afraid of total data loss [or/and]what other program to use to copy data from a damaged disk
but decrypted
Thank you in advance for your help
Best Regards
S?awek

Luckily, I noticed what I had done BEFORE I formatted it. So now the partition is an unpartitioned 80g, and I installed a fresh copy of xp on the RIGHT hard drive i meant to install it on in the first place! Can anyone help me? That hard drive is very important to me, and I know there has to be a way to get it back. For right now I am leaving the unpartitioned drive alone until I get some feedback. With a laptop W10 + TPM enabled with hard drive partitioned with C: = system; d: = users; e: = media; f: = the rest - all partitions BitLocker encrypted, all working beautifully well, I have an odd behaviour: after each W10 full startup, the partition e: needs to be opened by input of password asked. It works normally for all other partitions.

This is after migrating from W7 to W10 without clean install.
In W7, all was working well also but without the oddity.

I don't remember activating something special for e: different from other partitions.

Is there a parameter buried somewhere that regulates this behaviour? Or is the simple way out to decrypt then encrypt again?
Not a burning issue of course.
Thanks

What opinions do others have about enabling System Protection on a separate Data partition (D)?

I do not recommend this normally because System Restore only restores OS and Programs anyway, so why have it possibly interfere with keeping the latest data set intact on D in case C needs Restore or Reimaging.

I may be missing something. What do others think about this?

Answer:Should System Protection be Enabled on a Data partition?

Yes. As I mentioned in another thread for previous Versions.

I have a 60 gig Western Digital HDD that I thought was failing. It was partitioned into two drives E: for my OS (Win Xp Pro) and C: for storing a few odds and ends. I removed the drive and added it as a slave to the new server i just built. (wanted to work with Win 2000 Adv. Server so i built one) The server had a large enough drive that i could just move all my files and then dump the 60 gig. When i assigned a drive letter only the files from C: appeared.
They were useless so i deleted them. but i couldnt see E:
Heres the dumb part, I hit the "delete partition" and now the drive says "Unallocated" I NEED to get those files from the E: drive back. (my honeymoon, wedding, babtisms, party photos are on that drive, and im a dead man if i cant figure this out) I should know better i know..... Is there ANY way to recover a deleted partition or am i in the dog house permanently?

Hi-

I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I have two HDs, 80 Gig primary and 120 gig secondary. I had win xp installed and running off the 80 gig and I backed up all my files onto the 120 gig. I then decided to format the 80 gig drive

I used a win 98 boot disk and formatted the 80 gig hd. then I started the win xp cd and it asked which partition I would like to choose. I chose the partitioned 120 gig drive not realizing what I had done. I confirmed the partition removal and then realized what I did. So I start flipping out and I restart my comp

I looked for my files and 120 gig drive but it was gone. I'm really going crazy. So I researched a little and I have two utilities on disk (mbrwork and testdisk) I started to run mbrwork and it has been searching for recoverable partitions for the past 2 hours. I don't know what to do and I really need the files on the 120 gig HD. I didn't install windows and I haven't done anything other than run the utility. Can someone please help me. I don't know what I'll do if I can't get my files back.

Thanks

Answer:recover deleted partition please HELP!

Rob, There are utilities that can rebuild a File Allocation Table. I have never used one but I understand that they work by installing the hosed drive as a slave to another bootable drive and running the software from the boot drive to fix the slave.

I can't tell you any names but a Google search should get you plenty of hits.

Good luck. There is hope.

>>I checked with one of my favorite software producers, Acronis, and found this. If it works like the other software I use from them, it'll be all you need.

Hello Guys!

I was at a friends last weekend and rebuilt his computer. Two new hard disks were to be used and everything to be reinstalled. When finished, the last step was to transfer his data from the old hard disk. I removed the backup hard disk from the mobile rack and in went the old one. When everything had been copied over, I asked "are you sure that nothing is hidden somewhere?". "I'm sure" was the answer and I deleted the single partition on the old hard disk. Luckily, before I had a chance to create a new partition, he said "well, not really, I forgot, is it too late?".

I thought it was too late, unless some recovery software was purchased but I spent the best part of an hour on the Internet searching for freeware. Finally, I found TestDisk which comes in two flavours, DOS and Windows. I used the Windows based version and managed to recover the deleted partition.

Just thought I'd let you know ...... ...... but I have no idea what would have happened if I had created a new partition and formated!

Answer:Recover deleted partition !!

I don't think there's a possibility of recovering the whole drive, maybe he should be lucky to recover the file he wants to.

Hi
After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match
Event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver
Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
update:
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

Answer:Bitlocker enabled drive, recovery key needed during boot, PCS did not match, event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver

Hi,

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?

Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.

I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

I just made a terrible mistake!

I've recently set up a desktop PC after 2 years without one.

Anyway, I've been backing up all my old 3.5 Inch HD's to newer and larger drives.

I just got finished moving a heap of files to a new drive, and when done, accidentally deleted the partition of the new drive and was just about to format it thinking it was the old empty drive when I realised what I had done...

So my question is, is it possible to recover a deleted partition? I'm guessing all the information is still on the drive as I haven't actually formatted it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:How can I recover an accidentally deleted HD partition?

Yes.

Partition wizard free is popular.

Best done from a boot disc here: Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

I have two hard disk in my computer, Disk0 (500gb) and Disk1 (150gb). Problem is with disk1. 1st it was being used for Windows 7 (EFI, one main primary partition and Windows hidden system partitions) then I formatted it as FAT32 and used for backup and data.

During Windows 8.1 installation, when I was erasing partition on Disk0, accidentally / mistakenly deleted all small partitions on Disk1, didn't touch the bigger main partition of 149gb where the data is stored, now the situation is that in Windows Storage Management it's showing that partition as healthy partition but not as FAT32 but as 'Other' and I can not assign drive latter to it as all options are grayed out.

Tried some data recovery tools, can recover data using some of them but it's messed up, no folder hierarchy, no proper file names, very difficult to sort out, would you please suggest any better option, any way to recover partition to working state, or any data recovery with proper folders hierarchy?

Answer:Recover deleted partition table

If a partition is deleted but not formatted then it can be recovered using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

Try also using PW to assign a drive letter to the data partition. How to Change Letter with partition manager - Partition Wizard Video Help.

If that fails try using Diskpart to assign a drive letter from booted Win7 installer System Recovery Options Command Line: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...=ws.10%29.aspx

A failed partition which cannot be assigned a letter using steps above can sometimes have its table restored using DiskGenius trial.

Once you can assign a letter I'd back up your data which should have already been backed up if it has any value to it, then run Disk Check or Partition Wizard Check File System

Ok so I apologize in advance if this story is a bit long, and horrifying (actually it's probably entertaining xD). I purchased the Lenovo y510p gaming laptop on back on July 14th 2014. I got the laptop, and it just didn't work for me. It didn't play the games I wanted it to, it had overheating issues, the keyboard had a really sharp edge making typing uncomfortable as well. After installing Sony Vegas and Avast, and just shifting some of my personal photos/music over, I made a backup of the laptop using the OneKey Recovery software. This backup was made to one of my 500GB external hard drives. So I then decided that I just didn't like the laptop, and it was time to return it. I called Newegg, and got my RMA all ready to go. Because I had lot of my personal files and programs, I decided the fastest way to delete everything would be to use the OneKey Recovery by Lenovo, and do a factory reset. At the time, I didn't think anything of this then simply putting the laptop back to exactly how I got it. I even booted it up after the factory reset, and it looked just like the first day I got it. Fast forward 2 weeks, and my RMA is denied from Newegg:   Your RMA (RMA Number: 60470880) return was received and sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination. 34-313-740 NB LENOVO IDEAPAD Y510P 59406636 RTSystem has been modified/altered original manufacturers operating system has been removed cannot access restore partition, this voids Newegg w... Answer:How to recover deleted "Recovery Partition"

If you only used One Key Recovery by Lenovo, it should not delete the partition. (I hope you did not format the whole system) Once you receive the laptop, you can check if this partition still exists in Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Disk Management. It should show some drives, other than the C: , D: and the SSD (if you have). Those drives are the recovery partitions. I can post a sample screenshot in the evening. Sadly, I do not know any way to recover that partition. As I have seen on this forum several people who lost that partition could not roll back their laptop to original settings without a recovery drive (which is different from a recovery backup).

While trying to reinstall Windows 8 on a home PC we pulled the wrong hard drive and did a clean install on a drive that was being used to store a ton of files (videos, images, documents, etc) rather then a smaller drive that should have had the OS installed on it.

The original partition (on the storage drive) was deleted and then had 8 clean installed on it.

Is there any way to recover that deleted partition to get the files back?

Right now we're running a SuperScan with [email protected] Partition Recovery on the drive in question and it looks like it's going to take about 5 hours to complete. What's worrying us at the moment is the software is showing the deleted partition, and has folders from it in it, but there are no files. For example no videos or images yet.

I'm wondering if that just means the scan needs to complete or what. I don't know if anyone here has used [email protected] or has a better recommendation for partition recovery (if it's possible at this point) but the partition we're hoping to recover is listed as "Good".

Thanks in advance for any and all advice, if you need any more information, just let me know.

5) I deleted the second partition created in step 4 and re partitioned it and formatted it using again the quick format option.
6) I realized about what I did and leave my disk to come here and look for some help before make a bigger mess, because I am afraid to execute any action without proper guidance.

But inbetween these steps I never wrote data into my disk.

I am really DESPERATE BECAUSE I have very valuable info. there.

If you can help me to recover my data I will be VERY VERY grateful to you.

Thanks for your time and answer guys.

Sincerely yours,

Sam.

Answer:DISKPART, how do I recover a deleted partition?, PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello Sam, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I hope you have a backup of that deleted partition somewhere. Since you cleaned the disk, created new partitions, and formatted, the chances of recovering that deleted partition are very slim.

You might see if an option in the tutorial below may be able to recover it for you, but it doesn't sound promising.

If you didn't create a new partition and installed files or a new OS over the space that was once the old partition, then there is a good chance you can recover.
Use the Free TestDisk program. I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. You will need another partition or drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to.

Hi everyone,
I was trying to format my laptop and install a new version of Windows 8. I deleted my old Windows 8 partition and tried to install the new version, but I got an error about some GPT stuff.
I've looked for what it is and I found out that I could have just reinstalled Windows 8 using the Update and Recovery of Windows.
The problem is that I don't have the Windows 8 partition anymore. Is there a way to recover it now? Or do I have to install a new version of Windows 8?
In case, could you tell me how to go around the GPT problem?

My Laptop is a Lenovo Z580 and I haven't done anything after deleting the Windows 8 partition.

Thank you!

Quote from this post: UEFI Boot Mode (installing using the GPT partition style) and Legacy BIOS Boot Mode (installing using the MBR partition style). -> link

   Tip
Error message when you boot from the Windows installation media in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. (see screenshot below)

That is because Windows can only be installed to MBR disk in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode, but you plan to install Windows on a GPT disk.

- Boot from the Windows installation media in UEFI Boot Mode, so you can use GPT (GUID Partition Table).
- But if you want to use MBR (Master Boot Record) partition table, then delete all partitions on the disk.

yes you can try using open source software to recover data, but the success rate is low, your better off searching for a data recovery company. It is quite expense, a key word in IT is always backup, no offense but everyone learns the hard way :P

I accidentally deleted hundreds of my PSD files and like to retrieve all of them. I'm running XP Pro 64 and somehow, everytime I delete something, it doesn't go to the dustbin. back to my problem, what is the best free program I can use to recover my data? I have not formatted or done anything else to my hdd. please help. this is urgent and so important!
thanks!

Answer:[SOLVED] Please help recover deleted data

Undelete has a free 30 day trial. I would recommend not using your hard drive for anything at all. If at all possible disconnect it and use another computer to recover the files.

Any time something gets written to your hard drive you risk overwriting the "deleted" data.

Hello All, I am in dire need of help. I was testing converting my os drive to a dynamic disk through disk managment and shrunk it 7 gigs. I then added that 7 gigs to my e drive (disk 1) which was already dynamic. This drive has all my family photos, expense reports, my wedding vidoe, ect. I then right clicked on the 7 gigs and selected delete partition thinking it would only do that 7 gigs and it removed the partition from my disk 1 also. This data is now not reachable and show as unallocated. Please let me know who I can get the databack. In addition to spanning disk 1 with the 7 gigs from disk 0, disk 1 was already spand with disk 2 as each is only 75 gigs. Please help me out as all of my much needed documents are on disk 1 and 2. I konw I do not want to add them as a new volume as they will be formated. any advice is greatly appreciated

Hi Guys

I'm running XP and Lubuntu on an old pc. I recently erased my Local Disk D, which had most of my personal data on it. Local Disk C is still there and contains the XP OS.

I'm not so bothered about losing the data that was in D (the really important stuff was backed up) but Disk D took up nearly 40GB of space which I am now unable to access or utilise.

The full story is long so rather than recite it here if anyone is able to try to help it would be better if I just supply information as and when you require it.

I should say that I'm very much an IT beginner; until this all started I hadn't even heard of partitions, and sadly I'm still struggling with them.

Needless to say, very grateful for any help.

Hi and welcome to the forum! If you created Rescue and Recovery discs prior to deleting your service partition, then you can recreate the partition by putting your system to factory settings, but in case you didn't then you would to buy these discs from lenovo for a fee.Going back to factory state deletes all data on your HDD, so save important stuff before doing so.Hope this helps.

Hello,
Could you please help me to solve the problem i faced recently. Let me explain you what happened in detail.
Initially I had 2TB Seagate Expansion Desk HDD, partitioned into 500GB, 13GB, 293GB, all three Bitlocker encrypted and 1 more 500GB unencrypted partition, the rest of the space was unallocated. Few days ago, by mistake, while I was creating Windows Recovery
Disk chose the wrong drive letter and ended up whole partitions above deleted. Here?s what I have in HDD now: 32GB Windows 8 Recovery partition and 1831GB unallocated space. After that I haven?t made any changes to the drive. I was able to restore the data
from the last unencrypted part by using Getdataback SW but with no luck in my Bitlocker encrypted partitions. I would appreciate any advice to restore the bitlockerencrypted partitions as I have the password and recovery keys to decrypt and retrieve my data
back.

Softwares I have: Recuva. Handy Recovery. R-Studio. Getdataback. M3 Bitlocker Recovery. Starus Partition Recovery. TestDisk

I can provide the snapshots of the results from recovery softwares should you need them. Thank you very much!

Ok so I had some files on this hard drive now which didnt have an os and was part of another os until that crashed. So I booted to linux live and it showed the files i had on here so I installed linux thinking I could still be able to access them. When it said there was data and asked if i wanted to mount it i said no because i still needed those files so it created another primary partition with no filesystem so i uninstalled linux and installed windows 7 and in the disk management it shows up as a basic primary partition for 4.96 gb which is about how much data is on there but there is no filesystem and the only thing i can do with it is delete it. I have tried testdisk and i cannot seem to access the partition. i tried using linux live cd to recover them and it dosnt work on that either. someone please help me recover these. i have a paper i need for school to graduate on there.

Answer:recover partition with data on it

You installed Linux to a disk that had data that you wanted to recover ? What OS was on the disk that was part of the other OS ? maybe you could break down the steps a little more and add missing info like the OS versions partitions etc. You can also try r-studio and "get back data" to scan the drive for the missing data however I fear you overwrote the space when you installed Linux on the drive if I have followed your information correctly.

i recently went through a whole ordeal getting win 7 pro. (64bit) installed on my htpc. i had win 7 home premium on there before. now during this whole thing. on about the 7th or 8th clean install i became frustrated and careless. i accidentally formated one of my data partitions. (just the quick format. only lasted about 1 second.) i need to find a way to repair the pointers, and anything else, to rebuild the file structure. i have not done anything else to the drive. the data is still there. ( i was able to scan and recover files with another program). however the partition is big (350gb) too big for me to just recover the files somewhere else. so i need a way to re build it.

any software or suggestions are extremely helpful. i am very good with computers. cmd prompt, registry, whatever i need to do i am willing.

thanks guys.

Answer:recover data from partition

You could try chkdsk - it may or may not repair the MFT.

Quote:" Run a full CHKDSK. This option repairs all file system data, restoring all user data that can be recovered by means of an automated process. The drawback to this option is that a full CHKDSK can require several hours of downtime for a mission critical server at an inopportune time".

Hi,

I have an HP's laptop Nx7010. Recently I defragmented the D Drive (Operating System's Drive). After successful completion I began using it normally. At a certain point it started loading something and kept the reading/writing of the harddisk so much that the system went really slow and I couldn't do anything. After a while I shutted the laptop abnormally (by pressing the power buttton and holding it till it's off) and started it again. When the system booted the first time it just stuck. I restarted again and it booted but as soon as windows began the loading started again and it went for 5-6 hours. Then I hibernated the laptop and the next day when i started my laptop the message appears that the C Drive is not formatted. Do u want to format it????. Windows shows it as an unformatted partition. There is a lot of data there in C Drive. I really don't want to lose it. What do I do to recover it?

Answer:How to recover my data partition

Do you format your c Drive?
If not then it is still possible to recover your Data?

I was running win 7 with 4 partitions , thought to upgrade to win 10. While installing it didn't allowed me to install. I thought i can run diskpart clean on one partition, selected one volume and ran clean command, but it still cleaned all the partitions. Long story short, I cannot boot my OS until I install OS on freshly created single partition. I was told to use partition recovery apps like partition and mount software, Do I have to install OS on it anyways and once OS is installed, instal the partition and mount software for the recovery?

Answer:how can i recover my partition and data

Do not install any OS now.Do not install any OS now. Do not install any OS now.

(Diskpart clean only erases the first 2048 sectors of the drive. The most important one is sector 0 which holds the MBR and the partition table.

If the MBR and partition table are restored you should be able to get back the drive.

I hurry up to post this so that you don't do any such "mischief" like installing the OS)

I shall comeback again.

Do not do any mischief till I tell you what you should do.

EDIT: There is a power shut down now. So I am shutting off my PC. Only when power returns I shall come back.
