Must have made typo in password set up. Locked out of new pc

Question: Must have made typo in password set up. Locked out of new pc

Purchased a new laptop and skipped making the MS email but created a password for my account. When I booted up my pc later on I was greeted with an incorrect password message. I must have made a typo in the pw set up because it does not work.I also didnt create a recovery disk because I had literally only used it for 30 mins before turning it off and this problem was the last thing I ever expected to happen. There is only one account and it's the one that is locked. A to rendered a $600 purchase obsolete until I can fix it.All help is appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Must have made typo in password set up. Locked out of new pc

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,

I can't access windows. Story is as follows.

I was updating my java software and also trying to remove some malware. When I was asked if I wanted to reboot so as to complete java uninstall I said no. Then installed new java.
Then I went on to do the spyware cleaning and rebooted in safe mode (here I was following instructions from malware, but the operation performed was so minor it seems most unlikely that's the source of the problem).

Since then I can't access windows. My password (the only one I ever had) doesn't work eventhough the username is correct, and I don't get an option to enter an administrator password either.

In F8 menu I've tried to run windows in many different ways, from normally to loading the last known configuration that worked, but windows will not get out of safe mode whatsoever. I will list the options translated, more or less literally:

1 Safe mode
2 Safe mode with network functions
3 Safe mode with symbol system

4 enable start up registry
5 Enable VGA mode
6 Last good configuration known (last one that worked)
7 restore SD mode (only control of windows domain)
8 Purge mode
9 Disable automatic start up if there's a system error

10 Boot windos normally
11 Reboot
12 Go back to OS options menu

Now I'll list the ones I've used already:

1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11

When booting in modes 1,2 and 3...
I can see a very fast list if items loading. Too... Read more

Answer:My pc locked me out (or I made him do it)

Try this while in Safe Mode:

1.) Go Start, Run
2.) Type in "msconfig.exe."
3.) This will give you the msconfig screen.
4.) Click the BOOT.INI tab and unselect the /SAFEBOOT check box.
5.) Restart your computer.

The above should prevent your computer from booting into Safe Mode

Hi Everybody,
I made a big mistake today because I've tried to secure my computer by restricting other users to open other programs than those mentioned by me in the gpedit.msc. Unfortunately I thought those settings would apply only for the current user but now i'm stuck
and can open only few programs and I can't oper gpedit.msc or mmc.exe to uncheck the "Run only specified Windows Application" settings.
Could anybody help me please to resolve this big issue. I searched for hours on internet for solutions but couldn't find anything for windows 8.1.
Thanks

Hi guys. I was wondering on what I should do about a virus that has changed all my document/images/videos/music to locked. This is an example; "locked-Lana Del Rey - Off to the Races video.mp3.xygr" They have changed the file type, added something that makes my programs not recognize the file. The last 4 letters are obviously made up. everysingle file has now a different end. For example this is another: locked-Lana Del Rey RADIO.mp3.gflb

I have ran malwarebytes anti-malware. Also scanned it with super Anti Spyware software. The file remain the same, no Idea how to get my file straight again?

Any help would be amazing!

Thanks.

I am Arun Kumar Kushwaha and I have discovered one Big Loophole/Security Leak in Microsoft's Windows 7 Operating System worldwide.
through which we can Access/Delete/Copy/Replace Important Data without Cracking/Resetting the Login Password in Windows 7 OS
and for this we not need any 3rd party Software/ CD/ DVD/ Pen drive/ CMD/ Script/ or any other means of hacking Devices/tool.

only through Windows 7 OS we can Access anybodies Computer Around the world, and user will never get to know that his/her computer has accessed by someone else.
This is purely Microsoft's Negligence towards user's Around the world.

U can assume how much serious is this Issue, if anybody can steal confidential Important data of Company/ Govt data/ or any other Sensitive Personal data of anyone who are using windows 7 OS.

I have Talked through telephone to MS India regarding this Issue and they told me that there is no loophole in their OS and can't be accessed by anyone without having Login Password or User need to Reset login Password with tool/software available.

also i have mailed to MS Technical support Team and also asked about this issue on Windows worldwide official support forum, but not get any meaning full response from them.

I am asking this message to here, coz i want to Spread this issue around the world, so every user can secure their Data and also MS can rectify this issue by releasing an OS Update.

Thanks for reading ..

At this point I'm not certain the damage can be undone. Had multiple crashes through out the year with my drives being locked. Wasn't sure what kept causing it but believe its my antivirus. Been able to fix it last two times with minimum data lost. This time I can't seem to unlock the drive and now I seem to have destroyed my access to command prompt. Bios I haven't had any luck reaching either.

I'm on win 8.1 HP envy computer. The initial and current error is Aswrvrt.sys is missing or broken. Tried restore and refresh, which failed because of locked drive.

Went to unlock the drive and was out of space to make a new partition. Used the parititon that said system, assuming it was my previous use and reformatted to boot windows c drive.

I followed some video tutorial and trying recall what I've done. No idea if I unlocked any drives because the system recovery where refresh, restore, and command prompt were can no longer be accessed. If I click it, it restarts. Essentially most things I click now just restarts.

I start back with my initial error message and options to use start up settings or uefi firmware settings minus access to the system recovery as previously mentioned.

I get the feeling I'm completely screwed at this point. I think my tinkering will only cause more issues without a clear path to fix this. Last I seen my files were still there. I wanted to simply uninstall avast using command prompt and hope I can login, but now I&... Read more

Answer:Avast locked drive. Attempted Fix made it worse

If the computer still has the factory reset partition you may still be able to activate it at boot. What is the make and model of the computer?

Do you need any data on the computer?

If you do not need to recover any data you may be better off reinstalling Windows 8.1. You can create an install disk using the Media Creation Tool.

Here is a guide on doing a clean install. Because the computer came pre-installed with Windows 8 the OS will self activate when online.

My computer is a Windows PC running XP Home.

Two nights ago I was browsing w/Firefox when I got two separate alerts (seemingly) from my AVG antivirus program. I clicked "heal" each time, then I got a prompt that the computer had a hard drive failure and should be restarted It took a long time to restart and that is when the weirdness started.

First, my desktop was gone. Second, my task manager would not open. Third, my System Restore was locked -- the only set point was the reboot I had just done.

I unplugged the ethernet cable from the computer.

I used another computer to find instructions on how to restore Task Manager via regedit (and this worked).

I found some new programs running in Task Manager: PJudowMnnh.exe; Fabd40.dll; and Ujr.exe.

Adaware seemed to clean these up, additionally it said it had cleared the system of a malware called Ulisa.

3 AVG scans since then were clean.

Problems:

1) I still cannot see any of the icons on my desktop. I cannot save anything to my desktop (at least, that I am able to see). Right-click on the desktop does nothing. Running c:\Windows\explorer.exe will not bring the desktop back (all it does is open My Documents. I can still find programs to run via Start ---> Search.

2) The ONLY restore point in System Restore is the reboot I did immediately after the infect. I definitely DON'T want that restore point.

3) I am not confident all the bugs are gone.

Can you help? (Keep in mind that I don't seem ... Read more

Is it possible to reset the handset? Regards Steen Oh yes it's possible to do a factory reset on your 800. All you need to do is turn off your 800.
Then after that press these keys:
Volume Down+Camera+Power, release the Power but keep holding the Volume Down and Camera button for around 5 seconds.
Your phone will now be factory resetting without prompting you, of course you will lose everything so hopefully you don't lose to much.

Hi,

I was mucking around with my computer with windows xp trying to create a network. I clicked on something that said 'create network badge' thinking that it could be useful. Instead, it thought about it, then told me that it had done it, and asked me to restart my computer. I did this and now it won't let me log onto windows. It stops at a screen where they ask me for a username and password. I have no idea what these might me, and I have no option to skip this step. I am locked out of my own computer. Any ideas would help a lot!

Answer:Help ! XP ask me for Password I never made cant access my Programs/files

It sounds like something nasty has hooked your system. A few other posts have been going around with similar symptoms. (password required when password never assigned)

Can you boot into safe mode or safe mode with networking? If so try and run the 5 steps to try and clean anything off of the computer.

It sounds though like something may be hooking your logon. This article describes how something may be hooking your logon which may explain the error you are getting. Note that the article is for advanced users only and I take no responsibility for if you make things worse by following its instructions. If after looking at the article you discover additional registry keys that should not be in that section post back but don't make any changes to the registry.

As far as recovering your files, see this article on how to make a live Linux rescue CD so you can copy your files to a USB drive.

Hey there guys, its 2 Bunny again. I've got a new question for the community today:

On computers with Biometric Fingerprint scanners that are setup to log you in to Windows, I also have a password. In some situations it is easier for me to enter a password, and it will still let you login with your fingerprint on the password entry screen, so I was wondering if there was a way to make the login option go straight to the "enter your password" screen, as it would be more convenient either way.

Thanks.

- 2 Bunny

Answer:Can the Password Entry box be made default over Fingerprint login?

To disable the fingerprint reader, try this:

Start> In search box type Device Manager and click enter> In Device Manager, locate your fingerprint reader> Right click it and Select Properties> Under the Driver Tab, click the Disable Button and confirm

See if that doesn't do it. A Guy

Answer:Locked out don't know password

Sylviar Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Sorry, we're not allowed to tell you how to bypass the password ... but ... if you Google for Trinity Rescue Kit, you will be lead to a site where you can download an image file from which you can burn a CD. They might also have USB images -- don't know for sure.If you get a lot of results, then go to the MajorGeeks site -- that is trustworthy.Once you have this, you have a choice of media to create:1) If you can boot from CD, download and install ImgBurn and use the Write Image to Disk option to create a bootable CD.2) If you can boot from USB, download and install RUFUS and use the option to create a bootable USB stick from the ISO file.Once you have made the boot media, boot your PC and use the option to blank the password. After that, you should be able to login to the PC -- and then, set a new password.Good Luck

WELCOME to Major Geeks

Someone did a search for "forgot password" -- was that you? If so there was a lot to look through.

One person's advice was:

Get the program secret explorer from MG. It can grab most windows saved passwords in the realm of protected storage.Click to expand...

So you need to go to the main page and find a program called "secret explorer" and install it and see if it answers your problem.

Here - I found it for you:

Question: Locked password

Regarding hp 2000 notebook. My daughter got one for Xmas years back and never really used it. It's been sitting at her dads since. Now, she's 16 and her brother left to college and took all his computers so we got this one back and the password to startup is completely forgotten. The f8 safe mode doesn't go for some reason. Any help is much appreciated. The hotmail password reset asks questions we can't answer as she never really used that email and it asks for contacts, etc.

Next, how do we know it's YOUR PC that you want to get into?
Contact the software maker, they may give you a master-password if you can prove that it's yours.

Hello Marialuisa and welcome to the forums

Here at Vista forums, offering password resetting advice is a grey area because potentially you could be a minor trying to bypass an administrator password on the computer.

I need you to answer a few questions before I can offer you any useful assistance:

What cleaning did the computer go in for? Dust etc. or cleaning the files on the hard drive?
Why did they set a password on the computer when they had it?

Answer:Locked out-don't know password

Hey Crpkent, You cannot get into the PC without the password. IF you want to wipe the HDD clean and start afresh then you can run a recovery on the pc. To run a recovery: When PC is off, press power button and then keep hitting the f11 key on the keyboard multiple times until the recovery manager page opens up. Follow the on screen prompts and run recovery. it should be back to factory defaults in about an hour.

Sorry but forum rules prevent us from assisting with any form of password issues as we cannot confirm ownership.

This is not any sort of accusation but our advice is to visit a local IT technician, who should be able to resolve your issue after confirming ownership

Hi, I have my brothers laptop that has Win8 on it. Sadly he has passed away and was unable to pass on his password. I've managed to retrieve the data of it as he was a writer but cant get into the computer. It originally came with Win8 installed and would just like to reformat it and reinstall Win8.
Has anyone any clues? I've tried downloading password keys and password breakers all to no avail.
Cheers

Answer:Lost Password and locked out

Unfortunately there is a forum rule which states the following.

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures.

What's really unfortunate in this situation is the fact that we can't substantiate your ownership of this computer.  There for I can not help you with the password.  But I do have an alternate suggestion.  You could use a program like Darik's Boot and Nuke to overwrite the whole HDD/SSD and then download a Windows 8 or 8.1 ISO image which you can use to create a bootable installation disc.

You can download the ISO image at Windows Eight Forums.

How to burn ISO image using Windows Burn Disk Image.

Notice:  This applies only to Windows 7 and Windows 8, earlier versions do not have this.

1.  Place a blank CD or DVD in the tray of your optical drive and close the tray.

2.  After you have downloaded the ISO image you want to burn right click on the Start orb, then choose Windows Explorer.

3.  When Explorer opens click on Downloads in the left pane.  Scroll down till you find the ISO file you want and double click on it.  Click on Burn Disk Image.

4.  In the image below you will see Disk burner:, this should be set to the optical drive you want to use.  Click on Verify disc after burning if you want to Windows to verity the disc image after burn.  Click on burn.

Hi There

Although I have configured w8 to my liking, I still have 2 niggles that I cannot fathom.

1-I configured boot up without the need to log in with password, but now and then, for whatever reason, maybe the way I closed down, when it boots, I have to insert p/w. It also says "locked". I also have my own short cuts on desktop for shutdown and restart.

2-as far as I know, I only use a local account, and have closed the M/S account, although it takes till July before officially being closed.

3-forgot to ask, do I need to be administrator, I am the only person using this pc, and how do I check if I am/am not the administrator

Thanks in advance

OK, so I have an old HP dc5750 desktop that a user needs back on our network. Easy. Unfortunately, the standard admin password had been changed. So I got my handy crack disk and successfully changed the password; HOWEVER, the admin account is locked due to 3 unsuccessful log in attempts, and I have been unable to reset it. There is an "unlock" option with the cracking software, but that won't reset the unsuccessful attempts. I would prefer to not have to re-image this thing--anyone have any suggestions on how to reset the admin?

My 5-year old son was playing around and he got into the BIOS setup screen (the thing that comes up when the computer is booting) and set a password for the computer to use. Obviously, he was just playing around and we have no idea what the password he put in is (and my son has no idea either - he was just goofing around). The computer is an old Packard Bell Platinum 300 MHz that is requiring the unknown password to be entered in before it does anything. Is there anything I can do?

So I sent off my netbook to be repaired, and because of the crappy warrenty Asus offers it too 6 months to get back, my this time I've forgotten my HDD password. I changed the master and the user password in the BIOS when I was using it before it broke. So now I have it back and I'm trying to get my HDD unlocked. I don't care about the data on the hard drive anymore, so if I need to erase it to get it working, so be it. I've booted into an MS-DOS disk, and run ATAPWD and nothing I'v read seems to have helped. I've clicked "Set password" then typed the supposed master password for Western Digital drives: WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWD. and it says: "Error: command rejected by drive"
I also have MHDD on the boot disk but have found no clear instructions on how to use it. So both tools are open for use. Please help!

Also, I read that I can issue a security erase prepare command, which is probably my best shot, I've tried Gordon Hugh's MS-DOS program to no avail, I issue the "Enhanced security erase" but it tells me the drive is locked.

Answer:Removing locked HDD password

We can't help you. Please read the rules about passwords. We have no way to determine who owns that drive.

The drive is locked by its own electronics in most cases like this and you will just need to use the correct password.

Answer:Locked out of Win 7 (set wrong password)

Might try this.http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpa...There are a few ways to fix your deal.Best is to make a password reset disk but no one does. There are some free sites that you can send some data to and they will send you the old password. There are some live cd's that can either find or reset your password. Ophcrack, John and some live linux cd's can reset them. Some live cd's are made from microsoft os's such as xp vista and maybe windows 7 that can be used to reset password.I know this may not help but sometimes I re-step my exact path when I did something like that and once in a while I remember if you think it might be that you forgot.Playing to the angelsLes Paul (1915-2009)

So, I was working on my mother's laptop computer earlier, and she was interested in getting rid of the Welcome Screen and the Password Prompt at the startup of windows and also getting rid of unused users.

I found the process for these things on the internet, and disabled the welcome screen through "User accounts" in the control pannel and eliminated all but the administrator (my mother "Jane").

I then put "control password2" into run and deselected "Users must enter user name and password". Again, I removed all the unused users except for Jane who had administrator priviliages.

I then restarted

Upon restart it hit the login screen and beeped, saying that the user name and password were incorrect. Regardless of what I do it will not allow me to login. I have tried accessing in safe mode, I have tried ctrl + alt + del, I have tried using the names "administrator" and "computer administrator" and nothing will work.

It almost seems like I have removed the ability to log in somehow???? My thoughs are that I may have messed something up in removing the users under "control password2" and if so, what can i do to fix this?

Answer:Locked out at the password prompt

Sounds like you set it to AutoLogin with the account named Administrator. On XP home you will have to get in using safe mode to fix this issue. Did you ever set a password on the Administrator account or your mother's account.

Hi there I have a really strange problem with a windows 7 system. This *may* be due to the fact that I changed a user name in the user admin panel but now I have changed it back to what it originally was.

Basically I cannot sign in to the console of my machine with a password, it always reports bad user name or password. I can sign in with the same user and password with remote desktop. If I remove the password through remote desktop connection I can sign in without password. Any new user I create has the same issue.

This is not on a domain, this is just a normal local system user. This worked at one time, but I have been using the system headless for awhile and now that I have it back on my TV I have this issue.

Has anyone seen this before or can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks.

Answer:Locked out of console, only if password set

Welcome to TSF!

I can't really say exactly what the problem is, but hopefully I can give a solution.

I suspect a repair install will take care of the issue.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...r-install.html

You may try a system files check first, if you like.

This morning I typed in my entry password as I've done since I got my computer. This message, "The user name or password is incorrect" came up, thus I wasn't allowed access. I checked my entry by retyping the password a number of times, checking to make sure the caps key wasn't on, etc. etc. When I couldn't get in, I clicked on "Change Password." This didn't work, either, since it seems I need a recovery flash drive containing the information to do so. I know, for sure, I don't have such media. Am I screwed here? I shut down the computer last night doing nothing consciously to corrupt or alter the password that's worked for two years. Thanks for any help you can offer !! Warning this is a bit of a rant? Here is the deal.  Lenovo R60 laptop. In an attempt to remove some of the Think Vantage SW (Something in the Client Security Solution, I don?t care for it) I apparently entered the wrong password more than three times (the strange thing is this was not a Windows password because I have administrator rights on the laptop and the password I tried was apparently wrong).  After I had entered the wrong password whenever I would reboot a message would come to enter what I believe was a power on password.  I could simply hit ?enter? (no password) for this password and I was allowed to boot windows normally.  The password dialog was annoying (looking back it is much less annoying than having an expensive paper weight) and I wanted to prevent this from coming up every time I booted the laptop.  Looking through forums I saw that by removing the CMOS battery I should be able to clear power on passwords.  I gave this a shot and immediately was met with disaster.  Now it was no longer a password that I could simply hit ?enter? and be able to boot windows.  Now the system seemed to be requiring a supervisor password which has never existed.  Now after power on a message will say ?0176 System Security.  Your Machine has been tampered with.?  It looks like the only way to recover would be to enter a supervisor password.  At no time had any of my colleagues or myself set a su... Due to the fact that this is a security issue, I don't want to look like I'm up to something shady, but is it possible to remove an unknown HD password? Or bypass it somehow? I know a lady whose laptop is now worthless due to a HD password. She said it worked fine Tuesday night, she shut it down, went to work Weds and Thursday, came home and turned it on Thursday night, and got the password prompt. Her son claims that he didn't do anything (yeah, right! We know how teenagers are ). I seriously doubt that some type of glitch could set a HD password.....
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated. (Besides buying a new hard drive).

Question: Microsoft Typo

Microsoft made a typo in their WinSAT application, How can we let them know about it?

Answer:Microsoft Typo

Hi Steven,

You can try contacting them by following the link below. Whether or not you will get a response I cannot say. I have managed to locate the error in the 'WinSAT.exe' file (notice the space between the letters), and you can edit it to replace the erroneous 'o' with an 'i', however by doing so you will probably cause it to fail an SFC scan. In my opinion, it is such a minor error that it is probably best left ignored.

Okay helping a friend via long distance phone calls and the random email. This is the only info I have, if someone could shed some light on this and help, we both would appreciate it. Here is the email she was able to send:

"Still messing with that damn trojan. AVG sees it and asks the usual, delete, heal, or move to vault. No matter how many times I choose delete, or heal or even move, it comes back again and again. This is what was causing my IE to try and dial out (at least, that's what I get from looking online for info on this damned thing) and share my info with the hacker. Avast does not seem to see...this file. It is saving itself (and apparently restoring itself) in my Windows folder as a dll file. prntsvr.dll to be exact.

The name AVG gives is PSW.Dumarin.C. The last thing I tried was to turn my
system restore off, delete the file and re-start... but guess what? lol, Yep, it is still there. *sigh* Why do people have to make these things???"

------------end of message--------------
Looking around for info I found only ONE place (so far) that had any info about it, and that is assuming she misspelled the name of the thing...

Name: [email protected]
Aliases: W32.Dumaru.B/C | [email protected] | W32/Dumaru-B

I think she mis-spelled the name, because Google found nothing about her original file name..

I found info here: http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/virusinfo.php?menu_id=1&v_id=160

And a free removal tool here, which I've... Read more

I mistyped a url earlier (I believe i typed 'radiosahck' instead of radioshack) and was redirected to a strange website (something about internet surveys I believe) I closed it right away and did a quick scan with malwarebytes to make sure nothing was wrong, and it came up empty. I'm probably being a bit paranoid here, but is this anything to really worry about?

Answer:Odd URL typo redirect...

Redirects can be something to worry about, as you have no idea what content is being hosted on the re-direct. Most popular anti virus programs, have real-time scanning, where it's constantly scanning your computer, and as soon as you're redirected to a bad website, it will block any content that's harmful to your computer. I use Eset and it does this.
