Lenovo Hotkey for Lenovo ThinkPad X220 notebook

Question: Lenovo Hotkey for Lenovo ThinkPad X220 notebook

Friends from Lenovo,I write you because, on August 12th, 2016, trying to install the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I had to do a reboot of my notebook and in the process, I lost most of the programs and drivers that use my notebook to work properly. I already installed most of the drivers I lost that day, but I still haven`t found and install the correct driver for the hotkeys of my notebook. So far, I have tried with the files r09vu09w and 8jvu43ww, but none of that files is the correct one for my ThinkPad X220 notebook, which I bought in the year 2012. Therefore, I need to ask you if you could tell me how can I get, download the CORRECT hotkey file for my notebook, so I could download it and install it on my Lenovo notebook. Friends from Lenovo, could you please tell me how can I get the correct hotkey file for my notebook Lenovo ThinkPad X220, in order to download it and install it on my notebook?THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!! Yours truly,Cristián Palau

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Hotkey for Lenovo ThinkPad X220 notebook

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Spoiler (Highlight to read)IMPORTANT!!IMPORTANT!!Friends from Lenovo,Yesterday I did the update to the new version of Windows 10, called Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or Windows 10, version 1709, and after the update was done I find out that the hotkey driver, that controls the Fn commands on the keyboard of my Lenovo ThinkPad X220, doesn`t work correctly with this new version of Windows 10. Therefore, I would like to know what can I do to fix this issue, so the hotkey commands work properly again in my notebook, or if it is going to be an update of this file (8jvu43ww.exe) that I could install in my notebook to fix this issue. Could you please tell me what can I do to make the Fn commands work properly with the new update of Windows 10 (Windows 10 Fall Creators Update) or if it is going to be an update of the hotkeys that is compatible with the new version of Windows 10?I look forward to hear your comments, and I hope you already have an idea, an answer to solve this issue. Yours truly,Cristián Palau

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad X220 Hotkey Update for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Intel 2nd gen CPU machines are not supported in Windows 10. 3rd gen (X230) is the first one.

I used the thinkvantage system update software to update my power manager and hotkey on screen display features, once upgraded/updated I can no longer control the brightness with the keyboard buttons or any other method. I cannot change power manager profiles either, the only way i resolved this was to reload my pc to its original factory settings thinking the problem was only with power manager. After reloading the pc i Didn't update power manager but updated the hotkey on screen display features with the system update from thinkvantage and now im almost back to square one, now I don't want to update my power manager. The only possible way I can get the brightness to go slightly lower is to activate battery stretch. Is there a bug fix for this from lenovo because i've looked and i only see bug fixes for the power manager, however they are old and don't do anything for my system (and i actually liked the new power manager features)

Answer:My Lenovo Thinkpad R61e cannot change brightness after hotkey update...

This issue is performed by System Update.

Install the Hotkey Features manually.

I have a quesiton I have not found an answer to. Will the X220 charge the battery, when plugged into the 90W charger (42T4430), if the computer is in use?  I used my computer on battery for a few hours, drained the battery to 30%.  Then I went inside to plug it in and keep working.  After 4 hours of working, and it plugged in to the wall the battery still indicates 30%. The same thing happened when I was using my docking station.  I arrived at work yesterday with 76% battery.  After 8 hours on the docking station, I still indicated 76% battery life.  My previous (other major name brand) laptops all would charge even if I was working on the laptop.  Is the X220 different by design?  Do I have to shut down and plug in to recharge?

Hello, i have a problem to install the Hotkey Features Integration utility on my ThinkPad X120e notebook. I installing there Windows XP i.e. the drivers for Windows XP 32-bit. Everything seems fine except the Hotkey Features Integration utility which won't install. It says something in the sence that the programme is not compatible with the system, Windows XP. But this is nonsence because i downloaded the driver from the Lenovo website exactly for Windows XP 32-bit from Windows XP 32-bit section from here: http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cz/cs/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x... Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP and 2000 - ThinkPad (version 3.89.0100, 2015/06/01)The file name is: 8jvu43ww.exe It seems to me that Lenovo placed on this link wrong (incompatible) version of the programme. Can you help me to fix this, please?Thank you.

Hello, recently I removed by keyboard and palmrest on the lenovo x220 and put it back together however the touchpad seems to be slanted on one side and sorta "stuck". I have also noticed that using the touchpad to move the mouse results in decreased performance or sporadic movements sometimes. This is most likely due to the fact that the touchpad is not aligned properly. I am aware of how to remove the palmrest but I don't know how to disassemble the palmrest itself. I can't find any info on that in manuals or videos.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad X220 Upgrade Configuration

Hi, jarmonwhaim

Your plans are grandiose

1. Officially x220 supports 8 gb of RAM maximum. But if works with 16 gb (2x8 gb sticks) fine too. You can purchase Lenovo branded RAM sticks if you are a rich guy. I would recommend to buy the sticks of any vendor you like (Samsung, Kingston, Corsair, Transcend, Hynix etc) according to the following specification: PC3-10600 1333mhz DDR3 SO-DIMM SDRAM, 204 pins.

2. x220 supports a lot of wwan cards for 3g carriers worldwide. If you are not a traveller to US select Ericsson f5521gw HSPA+ WWAN Minicard. Note it must be with Lenovo approved p/n, FRU 60Y3279. I hope there are no specific carriers in your country so you'll don't need the such cards for Malaysia region.

Follow this thread for some discussion and information: WWAN card for the new 420/520 Thinkpads

3. You can fit any ExpressCard 34 or 54 you want - usb 3.0 adapter, eSATA adapter, tv tuner, media cards reader, audio/video card, wireless adapter etc.

4. Upgrade BIOS to up-to-date version and buy almost any 2,5" sata II (or III) SSD drive you'll can pay - Intel, Samsung, Crucial, Plextor etc. My advice is not to buy OCZ models. I would recommend the new model is better, the more capacity ususally means the more speed. Not the height of the drive should be 7 mm. You can post here models you'll find so we'll look at them and select together.

Hello all, first time posting on the Lenovo boards but I have been a ThinkPad user for about 5 years now. Probably will never go back to regular laptops!  I'm currently using a X220 (4286CTO) bought in Sept. 2011 and I'm looking to upgrade the laptop in a few ways so I can continue to use it well. Some relevant specs/system information?  i5-2540M @2.6GHz 4.0GB x 1  of RAMWindows 7 Professional 64bit BIOS version 1.40 (14/5/2015) 270 GB HDD Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wi-Fi AdapterMy questions: What is the max amount RAM/max speed RAM my machine can support and what are some trusted/compatible memory sticks you guys have used or are using in your X220? Should I buy another 4GB x 1 stick or go for a new set of 4GB x 2 sticks? I want to install a mSata SSD. What are some compatible/reliable mSata SSDs that would be good and what is the max storage/speed SSD that would work? I tried to research online some about Sata II vs Sata III and I did not really understand it. Should I just get a regular SSD and replace my HDD?Random question for X220 users: do you guys still have the palmrest crack issue near the touchpad where the lid closes? My palmrest has gotten replaced 3 times specifically for that problem by warranty and now it's inevitably happened again but my warranty has run out, lol. Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad X220 General Upgrade Information (RAM/SSD)

Hi and welcome, heyArhumGlad to see ThnkPad and x220 lover 1. x220 supports up to 2x8 GB RAM installed. With BIOS up to v.1.28 it supports 1333 Mhz memory by default (by design) and memory 1600 Mhz w/o issues. With 1866 Mhz memory some issues might appear, depending on the memory stick manufacturer, model, parametersStarting with BIOS v.1.29 using not designed memory type is locked.2. x220 mSATA slot supports SATA II interface. There are no SATA III lines of laptop chipset in that interface. So, use any mSATA drive, on your choice - capacity, budget, vendor..., not in the m.2 formfactor (!). Intel, Plextor, Crucial, Corsair, Samsung, Kingston... Not NoName and OCZ. Of course, most mSATA III drives are back compatible with mSATA II slots. The choosing between mSATA + HDD and regular 2.5" SSD drives depends on the storage capacity you need, laptop usage profile.3. I don't know about palmrest cracking issue despite the fact I contacted with hundreds of the x220 owners, since the beginning of 2011. I'm sure there might be a bit trouble with parts fixing under palmrest, their routine. There was the single case I remember - the user has breaked it himself due to the impact.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and my C drive (windows drive) corrupted yesterday. I cannot get to Lenovo Recovery to restore my C drive because the C drive was totally corrupted. I use linux bootable usb to try to access my hard drive, the C drive was corrupted, no data can be read, but the Recovery Partition (Q:\) was fine. I try to re-install my Thinkpad using the same OS (Windows 7 Pro-64 Bit) using the product key inside the battery slot to see if my hard drive fails or not, but the Windows that I reinstalled was fine until now. The Recovery Partition was still there, with different Letter path (changed to D:\) and whatever inside the recovery partition was hidden but the partition was 10GB used, so I think what inside the partition was hidden. My question is:1. Can I use my Recovery Partition again to factory reset my Thinkpad?2. Can I use the Recovery Partition with the Lenovo Rescue & Recovery apps that I download from Lenovo Website? Thank you, I still need My Thinkpad X220 eventhough I already have newer Lenovo laptop. Your help is much appreciate.

Hi everyone, first post here!
My laptop is currently causing me some aggravation regarding fast startup. It is a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 I have upgraded to Windows 8 and then 8.1 and an SSD and up to now has been performing flawlessly.
Recently, with the fast startup option enabled, the computer has been shutting itself off completely after the startup animation and requires the power button pressing again before it will boot up, in 'normal startup' speed.
I have tried disabling and re enabling fast startup, using the 'powercfg -h off' and 'powercfg -h on' commands to recreate the hiberfil.sys file and that's about all I can think of. It still behaves the same, turning itself off completely immediately after the startup animation.
Anyone got any ideas to resolve this?

Answer:Fast startup causing problems - Lenovo Thinkpad X220

Fast startup has worked a couple of times in the meantime - I swapped the wireless card yesterday and reinstalled some drivers to resolve some unrelated issues and it started working again. Yay! I thought - but after the first couple of goes it started doing the same thing again and shutting off after the animation!

He there,
I found a couple of similar threads, but I could not solve my problem yet.
Since a bought this laptop almost a year ago I have random system chrashes with a "Driver Power State Failure".
Sometimes it seems especially when I use lots of programms at the same time and always when the computer automatically goes to "sleep" or "poer save mode" (or when I close the lid).
What can I do to solve the problem or where is the problem exactly?

Kind regards

hello, Im very satisfied user of thinkpad x220, i bought it right after it came out around begining of may 2011.After a few months my thinkpad died (endless loop of blinking lights, no thinkpad logo etc) I sent it to repair, they replaced the motherboard(it was around september as i remember). Everything was ok till i found the crappy ips screen and as we all know the famous ghosting problem, I was very sad after i found that my polish lenovo department wont replace my ips screen cuz "they dont know anything about problem", but ok i can live with that. Few days ago i wanted to try new windows 8 as my company is a part of msdn program and we have copies for a while, before installing new windows 8 i upgraded my bios to newest 1.33 version. Everything was ok but after a while i found that my thinkpad cant resume from sleep mode(common problem also) after a night. It was very strange and then i tried to google, i have found that MANY users have then same problem! And here i am: I would like to ask someone from lenovo to give us(customers) clear answer are you guys going to replace all the faulty motherboards? As far as i remember its not lenovo fault but manufacturer(bad eeprom or smth), I remmind  that it was similar case when t61 was top model, there was a problem with nvidia gpu, and all thinkpads with faulty motherboard had it replaced even the ones without warranty. So Lenovo are you going to fix our laptops? As we can see the new model x230 also ha... Read more

Hi,My name is Shovesh, and I am from bangalore. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad 3000 N100 Notebook purchased in December 2006. I don't have the serial number at this instance. ISSUE: I was using my computer well and good, I never plug out my charger from the external power connected to my laptop, which is always on.Which means my laptop always keeps charging, even if my laptop is turned off.I have been using my laptop like this since 4 years and nothing happened to it, one morning I woke up and I turned on my laptop but its not turning on.When I checked with the battery light at the front, its was not glowing, which means my laptop is not charging.I disconnected my charger and tried to turn it on, nothing happened. And again I tried to run my laptop with direct AC without the battery, by removing the battery and connecting the laptop to the charger.Nothing happened.I suspect either the adapter of the charger is not working  or there might be a problem with the motherboard battery or my be something else. But if the charger is not working then there should be some charge left on my battery to turn on my laptop and if I connect the adapter to the laptop directly without the battery it should turn on.I called up to the toll free number, but the agent could not help me because I don't have warranty and suggest me to come to the service center at IBM,Benerghetta Road, Bangalore. I have already been there before 3 years. As my schedules are busy,... I recieved my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e a couple of days ago and it came with a lot of bloatware, or at least what I thought was. I started uninstalling a lot and everything seemed to work fine. I restarted it, but when it came back, I noticed the touch screen would not work. I went into the Device Manager and realized that one of my I2C drivers had the triangle with the exclamation was on one of them. After trial and error, I realized that disabling and re-enabling the driver would allow my touch screen to work. After a restart, however, I was back to square one. My wife bought her the same Lenovo Yoga and I have been compairing the two. I just noticed that I am missing the I2C controllers in the System Devices in the Device Manager as well. I have tried booting from an installation from hers and even copying the drivers and System32 folder to no avail. If anybody has any solutions, please help. I have tried everything I knew and everything I could find. Thanks in advance.

W~7 Pro 64-bit I want to wipe the harddrive, buy a Lenovo W~7 PRO installation DVD, and do a completely clean installation. Lenovo User Guide (.pdf) Ch. 8, Adv'd Config, Installing Windows 7, p. 295 (212 of 298) says:Start Thinkpad setup, then choose UEFI versus Legacy, then insert the installation DVD. This obviously does not apply when the harddrive has already been wiped (necessary to 100% eliminate all traces of irreversible damage caused by a virus, including the re-installation partition (Q-drive). When an intallation DVD is purchased from Lenovo, is not the first step to insert the DVD ?!! Then presumably there is an installation wizard resulting in a restored O.S. ?!! If not, please tell me what surprises are in store, and where I can find a reliable written resource to consult !!! Thank-you.

Answer:Clean install from a Lenovo installa. dvd: UEFI vs Legacy + Thinkpad setup acc. to Lenovo user Guide

Hi,

By Start Thinkpad setup presumably the manual means go to BIOS and configure for UEFI.

Strange wording indeed.

The lenovo thinkpad s1 graphics drivers are so old... its so annoying. i am using intel latest may release for intel hd graphics 4400 and it has better performance and quality even though it uses 1gb ram than the lenovo 2014 july update which has 2gb!! lenovo.... somebody pls incorporate the new drivers into the old one.... could that be so hard?? u guys need to carry your customers along.....why edit the graphic cards when u dont plan to ugrade the drivers.. 4400 is still one of intels high graphics cards and they are updating...lenovo are just interested in making people buy laptops and not upgrading them...that super laaaaaaame!!!!!!!!

Answer:PLEASE LENOVO PLS PLS PLS!!! UPDATE YOUR GRAPHICS DRIVERS FOR LENOVO THINKPAD S1 YOGA

I don't see why you want to update your graphics drivers. If it works, it works. If there aren't any bugs there is nothing to worry about. And as far as gaming performance goes, it is still going to be slow and barely going to make a difference. If the generic drivers from Intel, Nvidia or AMD work use those. But make sure that brightness keys etc work correctly.

Hi, My Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 is listed in the "supported W8" systems, http://shop.lenovo.com/gbweb/gb/en/learn/products/ee8/index.html But what is "Lenovo Enhanced Experience 8"? Should be some software available? Should be something available? So far, I got my hands over some drivers (card reader, hotkey, active protection system) and little more. Should something else be installed in the notebook to improve it's performance?

Disappointed to say the least!  If there's a Lenovo rep that wants to make this better, I'd appreciate it.

Short story about myself:I am a designer (print/web) and a coder (Web). I started my studying and thought it was time to get a Notebook as the iPad would not cut the productivity needed anymore. I was mostly working at the office or at home. But studying and the big breaks would make it impossible to get along both of those places so I needed a way to work while I was on the go. So I decided to buy a Notebook. It was down to a few models but the Lenovo Yoga 13" caught me.My i5 version had some great specs. Starting at 8GB ram going down to the IPS screen at HD resolution all was fine.  I picked it up in February just before my birthday as a little present and motivation for myself. Trouble began right after I received it. The Space key was not responsive on the bottom left corner and the keyboard was wobbly. I was kind of disappointed as I have always read that Lenovo does great Keyboards, the Yoga does not seem to have one. I know that the keyboard won't be as great as the mechanical Keyboard I have lying around here, but that bad ?The keyboard is what I would imagine a keyboard would feel like printed on a pad of silicone. Fan Noise, unbearable. Working in a quiet environment is impossible. I don't want to hear any noise from a device that is using an SSD. Other manufacturers are able to shut down noise, why is Lenovo not able to ? After working several nights with the Yoga and then switching one night over to my iPad I realized how terriblly d... Read more

First off thanks for letting me join.  Just wanted to get some opinions from some of the more experienced Lenovo owners and users.  I want to pick up the T420 as my first Lenovo Thinkpad.  What is the overall verdict on this laptop (Good build quality, reliability issues, or anything else I should be aware of)?  I use to own a IBM Thinkpad and just missed the overall layout of the Thinkpad specific look and functionality.  To date, the IBM Thinkpad has been my favorite Windows based laptop.  Any and all opinions would be deeply appreciated. May God bless! Ed

Answer:New to forum and opinions on the Lenovo T420 being my first Lenovo Thinkpad?

I've only had my T420 for a couple of weeks but so far I really like it.  I reminds me of a mini version of the W520.  My T420 has the i7 processor, NVIDIA Optimus and most of the options.  I upgraded the RAM to 16GB and currently have the Intel Series 510 120GB SSD in the primary bay.  I am waiting for a Samsung Series 830 SSD to arrive. No complaints so far.  It runs nice, quiet and cool. If I were going to improve anthing on the machine, it would be the screen.  The 1600x900 AUO screen on mine is fair but I can live with it.  I bought this machine new on eBay for an excellent price. I am using the 6 cell battery right now and get a little over four hours of battery life. The 9 cell is quite a bit better but I like the flush lighter 6 cell. Love the keyboard.  The trackpad is fair but I haven't tweaked the Ultranav settings yet.  Been using a mouse mose of the time. I have several ThinkPads and I think the T420 is an excellent balance of power and features.  I am comparing it to my X301, T410s, T61p and W510.  I added a 34mm USB 3.0 ExpressCard (still testing). After my experience with the W520 random shutdowns, I won't be totally comfortable with this machine for a couple of months but it's looking really good so far.  I am optimistic.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

The only one available in the driver download page were Lenovo energy manger. The most importants for me that i need are lenovo onekey recovery app and lenovo updates. For onekey recovery I only need the app, not the files to restore the whole partition, because the recovery partition is intact, I did not format it. So I only need the app that opens it. Th apps I want to get back are:1. Lenovo Onekey Recovery app - The one I am more interested in.2. "Lenovo Updates' (lenovo updates is the name of the app) The scond one im am more interested in.3. Lenovo Settings4. Good day and welcome to the community.

If I recall correctly, hotkey support for Idea and Essential series machines is incorporated into the energy/power management software.

Normally, I'd advise that you have a look at your machine's driver listing:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-s-series-netbooks/ideapad-s410...
to check for the proper version, but I only see a version for Win8 listed.

Answer:Lenovo U41 Function Button (hotkey)

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I'm not an owner of your model, but with some Lenovo laptops Hot Key functionality is added by installing the Lenovo Utility application.  For your model there isn't a Windows 10 version of Lenovo Utility available, but you may wish to try installing the Windows 8.1 version.  If it doesn't install then try re-installing again using Windows Compatibility Mode.  Here is a link to the Windows 8.1 driver....

Hi there. I'm planning to buy a Lenovo G500 laptop, and I simply can't find the correct answer to one small question.

As you might know, laptops of today incorporate many hotkey functions on their F1-F12 keys. And for that particular Lenovo model (and some of its closely-related brethren), I can't figure out what the F8 hotkey does in Windows 7.

It looks like three small squares, and ''F8'' below them. According to the G500 user manual, it is used to ''display all currently active apps''. As apps are only available in Windows 8, does anyone of you know what purpose could it serve in Windows 7?

I posted this already on Lenovo official forums, but not a single soul bothers to answer. There's gotta be someone who uses Windows 7 on Lenovo G500/G505/G510/G700/G710 or any other Lenovo with inverted Fn/function keys. If you're one of them, press F8 (or Fn+F8) and tell me what happens.

Thanks in advance.

That particular brand and model laptop comes with Windows 8 pre-installed.

It's user's guide doesn't provide any hotkey information about Windows 7.

Dear Lenovo community, I would like to change the HDD of my Lenovo z500 with a SSD. Moreover, since I have problem with the OS (win 8.1) I intend to format the PC and reinstall it. My question is: after the substitution of the HDD and the install of the new OS will I still be able to use the hotkeys (pc brightness, volume etc.) of my keyboard or have I to install some additional software or set them in the BIOS? Moreover, have I to install lenovo energy management (to control the battery) and the intel hd graphics drivers? thanks for the attention

Answer:lenovo ideapad z500 hotkey

Hi mardix1982 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you still be able to boot to Windows on the original image ?
You may create a recovery image first that can be useful on the SSD change or even clone it after a factory restore (One Key recovery page 23) using the SSD software or other tools.

Since there be no changes on the BIOS , hotkey features under configuration setting should stay enabled.
All other drivers and power management tool such as Lenovo Energy Manager are available from the support site.

You may also order purchasable Windows installer with drivers by calling technical support .

So I recently reinstalled Windows Vista on my system...and I used the Recovery Partition to do so...I got everything I needed installed that I had taken off but I noticed that I no longer can make the Dolby/Realtek (Sp?) Hotkey Software come up. The Key itself illuminates, but no program/interface comes up to use. It's a bit discouraging considering sometimes the Audio Boost doesn't always make something louder, or in other instances I like to play various effects over something I'm listening to. Any idea on why the software isn't coming up?Is there a specific file location/exe name for the software? I have uninstalled the Hardware associated with the Software and reinstalled the Driver and it provided no remedy to my problem. If it's worth noting, here are my specs.Windows Vista Home Premium 32 BIT4Gb RAM (3.25Gb in reality)250Gb 5400 HDDCentrino T5750 Processor Those are just some of the basics. Also my Audio / Sound Card Version is 6.0.1.5490 Thanks.

Hi guys, I've spent the last several hours downgrading a Lenovo G700 to Windows 7 (to provide support for old business software). Once I got past the BIOS stuff, it's actually been a very smooth process and I've got all drivers installed, everything seems to be running smoothly except for one thing, Hotkeys. I can't see any software available in the Lenovo Support section for Hotkeys on this machine.  I tried downloading one for another machine but predictably, it refused to install. Does anyone have any ideas?  To be honest, the biggest irritation is just the screen brightness, if we could get back control of that, we'd be very happy  Andy

Hi everyone.I'm having this quite unusual issue on my Y580 when adjusting the screen brightness through the brightness hotkeys (Fn + Up/Down). The brightness level bar (the one appearing in the upper left corner) just starts to jump every 10% per step every time I press mentioned buttons which makes it pretty hard to find exact brightness. I'm confident that these levels were always working smoothly just like pressing and holding it with a mouse. That is the bar I'm talking about : It actually happend when the whole screen brightness feature suddenly stopped working (was no longer possible to adjust brightness anywere in the Windows) which forced me to reinstall Intel Graphics Drivers to fix the problem. I did also reinstall Lenovo Energy Management Software but it didn't help either. I do have Windows 8.1 but it was always working even after an update. Please help and thanks in advance.

Dear Adtrix

Welcome to Lenovo forums

please try un installing the Intel and Nividia drivers and download them again from the below link according o the exact windows version that you have Then install and let me know what will happen
if this did not fix the issue you can try doing a recovery for the machine to get it back to win 8 and then try to update again

Thanks

Hey all! I've been sporting my Lenovo Edge 15 for about two years now. I run Windows 10 and have done so since I first got the computer (I believe when I purchased it I upgraded right away). If you need more specifics I have this PC right here! Airplane mode works if I manually activate it via the wi-fi settings, but the hotkey, F7, won't turn it on/off.  The key doesn't appear to be broken, just the hotkey function it carrys, as using Fn activates the basic F7 function. All my other hotkeys work perfectly. Anyone have the same issue? Know of a fix?

This y720 is my first real computer that I've bought/owned myself, so i'm not too good with understanding parts. I'm trying to have 16gb of total RAM but I ordered the wrong type of RAM (different Hz) and had to send it back. Before trying again I was wondering if this would be compatible with the RAM my latop came with. They seem to have the exact same specs. Or is it preferable to get identical ones? Another question, that's more for convenience: I recently had to reset my laptop because it had an Os problem. After I got that sorted, I went to the lenovo website and redownloaded Nerve Sense, the Bios, and a few other recommended things. The hotkeys for it dont seem to work (keyboard lighting, fan overdrive, etc). Is there a way to get the computer to use the Hotkeys again. I'd like to use them because its much faster than opening up nerve gear everytime I want to turn my lights off.

I have a Lenovo T530 and am using Windows 10 and recently had to replace the keyboard because a few buttons were just plain gone (don't ask). I'm not sure if it's the Lenovo, the keyboard or Windows 10 that are causing these problems, but I am beginning to think it's Windows 10. I apologize in advance for the long post. Despite the keyboard being new and installed and working very well (as is obvious from the fact that I'm typing on it right now), the backlight is not working, even on startup. I made sure when I purchased the keyboard that the backlight was included and there's even that little symbol on the spacebar indicating that it should. While this is not the end of the world, the volume buttons have completely stopped working. I can control the volume on the computer through the keyboard's volume buttons after startup for about a minute, but as soon as I click a single program or open an application or something I can no longer control the volume through the volume buttons. I can still use most of the other hotkey buttons (barring Fn+F5 and Fn+F6, but I never used those even when they did work). I have tried updating a few drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling drivers in multiple times in multiple ways and checking things in BIOS and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions other than a system restore or something along those lines since I had a similar audio problem on my last keyboard with the audio and it went away with a new windows update. I purchased a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 a few months ago and I voluntarily purchased the three-year extended warranty because I had heard such great things about Lenovo's repair services and warranty services.  Many people had told me that the warranty services were top-notch and frustration free.  Not true so far in my experience.  First, the screen crack started out as a hairline crack.  I did not drop the laptop or in any way cause the problem.  It just appeared one day and then got worse.  I spoke with Lenovo and they sent me a box to send it to them for the repair, but then they sent it back to me unfixed.  They did not even attempt to fix the crack and told me that they would require my credit card number to repair the screen and that it would cost no less than $900.  This is nearly twice the price of the laptop itself as purchased new.  The Lenovo technician apparently thought that I had caused the crack in the screen and nothing I said could change the technician's false belief that the problem had actually occurred through no fault of my own and might actually be a manufacturer's problem.  I am not happy with Lenovo's handling of this matter so far and wanted to see if others had had similar problems.  Another problem is that if Lenovo does not fix the laptop, then I have a 2 and half year remaining warranty that I paid for that will now be for a laptop that does not even work.  I am now stuc... Answer:Hotkey Drivers - Lenovo 3000 N200 (Type 0769)

Hi IHamlin, welcome to the forum, I read it a little differntly to you, namely that R61e and the Reserve Edition have limitations. (W2K will not be supported on these TPs either). The driver is for Vista, XP and W2K. Quote:The following systems are supported:- 3000 C200, N100, N200, V100, V200- ThinkPad R60, R60e, R61, R61e(*2), R61i- ThinkPad T60, T60p, T61, T61p- ThinkPad X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, X61, X61s, X61 Tablet- ThinkPad Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t- ThinkPad Reserve Edition(*1)Notes*1: Only Windows Vista Ultimate 32 is supported.*2: Only Windows XP and Windows Vista are supported.I can't be 100% sure, and don't have an N200 to try it out, but if you're feeling brave I'd do an all-in-back-up and install the driver.Message Edited by andyP on 12-11-2007 08:29 PM

Dratted new laptop  (Lenovo G505) came with Win 8.  I had a Win7 install CD and license key, so I figured why not?
The rest is a bit of a nightmare... Windows installed perfectly, but was missing drivers for some of the USB ports, networking and WiFi.  Found those on the Lenovo site, but even after hunting everywhere, could not find a couple of drivers so things are infuriatingly wonky (as opposed to lovably wonky!).
The mouse (touchpad) is doing an annoying hover-to-click thing I cannot seem to turn off, but most significantly, the hotkeys are only barely working and I cannot seem to adjust the monitor brightness no matter what I do.  I've got it so the volume (F1-F3) and all function keys are working, but the brightness-up key does NOTHING, while the brightness-down key shows a blank "fuel gauge" indicating that there is NO brightness, while in reality, it's turned up all the way and barely watchable.  :-(

Any suggestions for either or all of these woes???
I think it's disgusting how the Microsoft/Lenovo monopolists are still working hand-in-hand to make a system that is dysfunctional without Windows 8.  :-(

Answer:Lenovo laptop came with Win8, can't find Win7 hotkey drivers -?

Was the Windows 7 installation disc a retail copy or a OEM version?

Hi,      I have a Lenovo SL300 I recently bought from a friend who refurbrishes computers. I had to install all of the drivers worked, but the Hotkey OnScreen Drawer doesn't work. When I do System Update I try downloading it and installing it, but it says "the program doesn't support my system". Is there anyway to get the OnScreen Drawer for my HotKeys to work?

Question: Lenovo X220 PSU

Hi Guys, Thanks for clicking. About 6 months ago I ordered an X220 with the following specs: Intel Core i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz 6 GB memory Win 7 Pro. It was really quite expensive, and it is still fairly new. The mains socket in the back has come loose, meaning I can't charge it at home. I work in IT and always take care with my kit. I have used HP Laptops and Dell Laptops for years on end and never had anything like this happen before. I called customer care and was told this isn't covered under warranty. I order tens of £thousands of Lenovo kit every year and I've never had anything as daft as this. Surely the fact that this laptop cost me about £1700 and it is less than 6 months old means that I should expect a certain amount of integrity, especiialy from a manufacturer who prides themselves on the ruggedness of their kit? Does anybody have any advice? Does anybody agree that this is a bit silly? I asked to speak to the customer care assistants manager and was told he was unavailable, I asked to speak to his managers manager and was he told he would also be unavailable. Anyways, rant over. Thanks in advance for your time all! Charles

Hey there Viper334 and Welcome to the Forums!

It is very unfortunate that you are experiencing this issue with your machine. And I would like to gain a little bit more clarity on what you are experiencing, are referring to the socket where the ac adapter plugs in? Thank you.

I installed the drivers downloaded from lenovo website and worked properly. but I cant get the hotkeys buttons (mute, vol, vol, touchpad) to work. and i canno find the correct driver for my laptop. can someone help? thanks in advance. gaston

Answer:hotkey (volume) buttons not working after installing Windows7 in Lenovo 3000 n 500

Same thing happened to me: Lenovo 3000 N500 4233-88S. In addition, I can't adjust the monitor's brightness. Not even from the Windows Mobility Center. Searched in the Lenovo website, but there seems to be a Hotkey solution only up to the N200 models. Nothing for the N500. Hope Lenovo can give us a solution soon. Max.

Hi,  I'm considering to get an X220 stuffed with an i7, fast HD and lots of RAM.  However, after having my W500 replaced 3times within a period of 1 year I'm not so sure if it is a good idea to get a Lenovo.  Any links, hints or tips on the quality of the current X220?  The only major thing I came across until now was an issue with overheating. I'm planning to use the machine for some CPU heavylifting and it seems that a lot of X220 models are overheating and scaling down the CPU MHZ. I actually read something about that this behavior is by design. Is that really the case? I consider that the same as I would buy a Porsche that locks down at 70MPH. I don't see why a machine should scale down at 100%CPU speed.

Answer:Getting a X220 or Lenovo in gengeral?

Actually, you won?t be able to use any x220 (I?ve got a x220i with an i3) at its full capacity with AC power (65W adapter) only, while your battery is not attached to it (to protect it from the heat emitted by your hot cpu). This is the one big by-design flaw Lenovo incorprated at least into this one series of laptops. With a 90w ac adapter, you won?t have any problems, but it costs extra? You are free to think whatever you like? The issue is discussed with other X models herePeople are discussing alternative adapters here

Hi, the above laptop has not been working well for quite some time (not sure if it was related to upgrading to Windows 8.1).  The laptop keeps 'hanging' and I have to reboot.   I have run the solution centre which it keeps failing on the hardware scan with results code: WMEBVV2S0-WJIAKG.  I have been unable to find out what this indicates and therefore a possible solution. I have a Lenovo X220 running Windows 7 with an Intel i5 2430m clocking at 2.40 gHz and an integrated video card. It's my only computer right now (I will not be getting a new one in the forseeable future) and so I play all my games on it. However, with the new games coming out requiring system requirements over 2.40 gHz, I was wondering is there anyway to push my CPU speed beyond 2.40 gHz without changing the CPU? If it's not possible, is there any compatible CPU upgrades which I can get for my Lenovo X220 which allows me to run GTA 5 at medium to high graphics at over 30 fps? I live in Hong Kong however so if you can provide any addresses to get these replacement CPU, that would be nice . Will appreciate any answers.

Answer:Lenovo X220 - How get it run as fast as possible?

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately you can't swap the CPU since it's soldered into the motherboard, meaning if you need more CPU power you'll need a new motherboard.

The most powerful option is an Intel Core i7-2640M (2.8-3.5 GHz, 4MB L3 Cache).

I anyhow doubt that the CPU above will play GTA5 correctly, I think your biggest bottleneck is the graphics card.

Hi there, I apologize for the rudimentary question... I was recently given the X220 as a gift. It seems great--but I need to install programs, burn CDs, and watch DVDs on this thing! To do so, what do I need to buy? Can I get any old CD/DVD reader, or do I have to buy the Ultrabase 3 + something else? I can't believe how impossible it is to find this out when browsing the website! Thanks,~Kalyx

Answer:Using CDs and DVDs with the Lenovo X220

The least costly solution would be to buy an external DVD drive with a USB connection that can be plugged into the USB port on your X220.  There are many on the market.

Cheers,

Bill

Hello, i acquired recently a x220. The thing is, it will only turn on if you remove the battery and the CMOS battery, and, after plugging the AC adapter it will turn on automatically. Other thing is, after you turn on, you can plug the battery back and remove the AC adapter, it will use the battery normally. Someone had this issue? i need some advices.

Answer:Lenovo x220 won't turn on

I don't know, but how fresh is the CMOS battery? If unsure I think I'd try replacing it with a new one first.

This issue seems to be Windows 8.1 related.  Specifically it is affecting all our X1 Carbon, and T440S laptops running Windows 8.1, but NOT 430S running Windows 7. Basically roaming profiles were creating the proper folder on the file server but the folders were empty.  Through trial and error, I narrowed it down to the "Lenovo Hotkey Client Loader" as listed in msconfig or Program Files\Lenovo\HotKey\TPHKLoad.exe.  Once that service was disabled, the roaming profiles would copy over properly.  I am running the latest and greatest version of "Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8.1" Ver 5.25.0000.  Wondering if anyone else is seeing this?  Wondering how significant TPHKLoad.exe is? And wondering if we'll see an update to the Features pack to correct this?  Hopefully this post can help some others who are looking at empty roaming profile folders.

Recently bought a new Lenovo X220 and have had it for about 2 months now.  It pretty much stays in my home office - rarely goes anywhere else.  Never been dropped, banged, etc...  This morning, I noticed that the audio from my headphone jack is only on (1) side - the RIGHT side.  I've gone into the settings (SOUND, DEVICE MANAGER, SMART AUDIO) and have tried to adjust the panning/balance settings on all of those but - NO LUCK.  This is REALLY unfortunate, seeing as how this laptop is used for music.ANY useful ideas or suggestions?  Has anyone else encountered this issue?  Any fixes?

I have an older x220 thinkpad; when running backup it gave me an error message that there was not enough room (but there was plenty of room on the external drive!).  I made the mistake of deleting the backups from the external drive manually.  Now, it hangs up.  I thought perhaps deleting the backups showing in the system would force it to start over with a brand new backup instead of looking for the old ones; however when I try to delete the backups from the list in lenovo backup, it also hangs up.  I would like to find a way to clear all of the history out of the backup system so that it will start over with a new image (and work, of course).  Any ideas?

I've got strange problem with two Lenovo X220 laptops. After disassembling the laptop for cleaning and thermal paste exchange, I can't start both laptops. I've got no idea what could happened. Both laptops looks dead. I've checked all connections - looked OK. Any ideas what could happened? What did I do? After I conected the fans, I placed the motherboards by error to the wrong casing. After I started the laptops I found out that the motherboard were switched (I checked the motherboard s/n in BIOS and compared them with the sticker on the bottom of the casing). So after that I took the motherboards out of the casing again and placed them to the correct casing. And after that I wasn't able to start the laptops any more Anybody knows what could it be?

Hi, I recently got Lenovo X220, and installed Crucial SSD c300 and transferred the image from the existing hard drive (so no clean install of windows 7).  From what I read, I should be able to take advantage of Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0 since it was not a clean install and all partitions from the original hard drive is still preserved.  However,  can someone tell me how to turn this feature on?  Or is this automatic once the laptop recognizes SSD?  I looked under Toolbox, but could not find anything.  Thank you.

Answer:X220 Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0

EE is a set of optimizations made to the operating systems and drivers. It's not an explicit setting.

My doughter's laptop falled down from the table what caused that the LCD is not working correctly. It lights a little bit, but stays almost dark. I checked the LCD, and it looks that the one is OK (I put it into another X220 t and it works. So it looks that there's something different broken (also I mounted the correctly working LCD from another X220 t into the one and doesnt work either). What could it be? Where should I find the reason of that? Could it be something with the motherboard or what? As mentioned before, the LCD lights a little bit, but doesn't show anything, stays dark (a little lighter than as is OFF).

Answer:Lenovo X220 tablet LCD backlight.

I'm guessing you blew a fuse on the motherboard.  They are VERY fast burning fuses and easy to blow.  Unfortunately, most places cannot fix that sort of problem without replacing the board.

Strange problem I'm having, my x220 wont recieve any updates from windows. Ive re-installed multiple times, tried many fixes and nothing has worked. Most recently I just reinstalled the whole laptop and first thing I ran was the lenovo system updater, it's stuck on installing windows 7 update module kb2459268 64 bit.. when you goto windows updates it just checks for updates forever. I bought this system used and I originally installed windows 7 and updated to windows 10 which worked, but windows 10 was unsupported and the computer had issues powering off and going to/waking up from sleep. Ever since then when I reinstalled windows 7 I have had this issue. I cant work with a pc that doesn't update... Any tips greatly appreciated. Brad
