Edge 15 - Touch Screen / Touchscreen not working?

Question: Edge 15 - Touch Screen / Touchscreen not working?

I got my Lenovo Edge 15 back earlier this year from service (hard drive fixed) but when it was returned to me the touch screen no longer worked. There is no touch screen driver visible on the device manager either, nothing labled touch screen or anything similair, is there a way to re-isntall the touchscreen? This laptop was a 2 in one, tablet/laptop and used to be touch screen compatible / usable now it doesn't seem to work that way at all.

Mod's Edit: System model added to the front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The touchscreen has been working for a while now. The device manager does not show "HID-compliant touch screen." Going into "Show hidden devices" shows a faded HID-compliant touch screen hidden, with no disable function.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R touchscreen not working: HID-compliant touch screen hidden

The greyed out entry represents a device not currently connected or not functioning.
Touchscreens are probably USB devices so you might check those.  My system uses a Input.inf file as the setup for the touchscreen, but I have a different system from yours.

Hi, before you move this post i would like to say i did almost all the possible updates/checks on this forum: 1) Downloaded the LCD software and confirmed that it was at its latest version2) Updated drivers and all windows update3) Checked that LCD screen is working fine, and under pc info the pen and touch is under "Full Windows touch support with 10 touch points" I got this as a display set, and resetted to factory settings. I also downloaded some drivers from the lenovo support website. Upon further research, they said the enable the HID compliant touch screen, but i could not find it anywhere under device manager. Is there any links to divert me to the download page for the HID compliant touchscreen and other necessary touch screen softwares? Not keen in looking for customer services as the warranty has expired prior to obtaining this laptop, and as everything works fine except touchscreen. Thanks in advance ! Regards , Maxx

Randomly, out of nowhere, the touchscreen on my Y700 stopped working. Upon a hard reboot it came back for all of 5 seconds a few times and stopped again and now it's just completely stopped. Under the device manager, there are NO Human Interface Devices and a USB shows an error "Uknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) and an error code 43. I thought it was just drivers, but I did a completely fresh install of Windows 10 and still the same error persists. Do you all think this is a hardware problem? I am from the Caribbean and the service here is terrible. I am on my first replacement and had to wait almost 6 months for it because the touchpad on my first unit stopped functioning. I really don't want to go through this hassle again. Any suggestions ? Or is it just a faulty digitizer panel?

I bought the PC in July 2015 and it had to be returned to HP 3 times! Firstly the hard drive failed in autumn 2015 and was replaced. The keyboard was failing in june 2016 and was replaced. The touchpad was not working properly in July 2016 and was replaced. It is now conveniently for HP out of warranty after more than 1 year and is worse than ever. The cursor is constantly not responding to the touchpad touch and constantly disappears, it also jumps around the screen. The touchpad was replaced in July 2016 and still doesn't work. Occasionally the touchscreen will fail to respond to touch.

Does HP have a new driver or software that will fix this problem? Is this a Microsoft problem that we have to wait until and update? I have read where others have experienced the same. I cannot imagine Microsoft not supporting touch screens since it is required in tablets, phones and many cross over laptops and computer monitors these days. Please help

I just purchased a brand new P50, and the Touch Pen input doesn't work on one side of the screen: about 1" from the right edge, the pen's input cursor disappears and "magically" reappears on the left edge (but doesn't move inwards from there...it can only move along the edge). As soon as the pen is brought back a bit more leftwards, the cursor once again reappears right below the pen as it should.Finger inputs work along the entire screen. Is there a way to calibrate the creen or fix this? Obviously the full screen should be usable with a new laptop. Or is this a defective unit?(I hope not, since I sent back TWO P70s due to defective hardware...)

My Ideapad P400 Touch with Windows 8 is no longer responding to right side swipe (charms bar gesture).  All other touch screen functions and gestures still work normally, including the left side swipe to switch apps.  The screen still displays the 'touch feedback' dots when I attempt the gesture but no charms bar appears! I've tried recalibrating as well as removing calibration of touch screen, and tried various other troubleshooting procedures I found on this site, like uninstalling recent updates, etc... Finally I tried running Windows 8 PC refresh, which worked as it's supposed to so I got to reinstall all my software but didn't fix the missing charms bar! Has anyone had a similar problem with the touch screen right-side swipe and been able to fix it?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!   Thanks!cait

Drivers all show working properly. Not intermittent. Tried settings and no help. No response when touching screen at all. Can't calibrate. Bios has no update available. Nothing in manual under troubleshooting. Any quick fix suggestions have likely been tried, but open to all ideas. If all else fails, and assuming the digitizer is bad, what does repair entail and any rough estimate? Is there any recall? I see this issue on the forum a lot with not many folks getting it resolved.TIA!!

hi c2nah777,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried booting the system in Recovery Mode (One Key Recovery), You're not going to Recover the system since your only going to check the touchscreen in that mode "Outside Windows"

See if the touhcscreen works there,
If Yes, I would suggest doing a factory Reset First Before jumping into a hardware Repair.
If No, Then I think you're correct with the digitizer.

Hello, I just three days ago bought a brand-new Edge 15 laptop, about which I'm very excited, and while I'm not usually the kind of person who likes touch screens on his laptops I want it to work since I know it comes with it! When I first opened it, the touchscreen worked perfectly fine, but as soon as I installed the first round of Windows updates (I believe 8->8.1?) it suddenly stopped working. I installed the second round of updates and it worked for a hot second but now it doesn't work again. If I pull up the device manager, no touchscreen appears under "Human Interface Devices" but a device does appear under "USB Controllers" labeled "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" I can't for the life of me find the drivers for the Edge 15 touchscreen on the Lenovo support website and nothing I'm finding for any other laptop touchscreen problems appears to be helping. Anyone have any help? Has anyone seen this before? Where's the incompatability between Windows 8.1 and my new touchscreen? Why is the device descriptor request failing? I only just bought the laptop! Thanks!

Answer:Yoga 2 Keyboard not working, but touch pad and touch screen fine

You should test the keyboard in the BIOS menu and see whether it works. 1) Press on the recovery button (next to the power button, you may need a small screwdriver). https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/11617761143/in/set-721576390073780542) Then there is an option menu for entering recovery, bios, etc. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14512183979/in/set-72157639007378054Use your keyboard and see whether it works in that option menu. If it doesn't work then it is a faulty keyboard.

I have the IdeaPad S510p touch, which seems to have a similar problem as other Lenovo models where the touch screen seems to stop working intermittently.  It seems to stop working after a while or after it has been sleeping.  It starts working again randomly.  I tried downloading a driver for a different model, but it didn't load or allow me to open it.  I just got this computer a few days ago.  I'm not sure if it is better just to take it back to the store, but I am concerned that this problem will exist even if I exchange it for a new one...

In the middle of using an app and using the touch screen. I searched all through settings and can't find anywhere to adjust its settings or anything. And in fact I saw that this computer "Has no touch/pen screen", which it does. Or it did until about an hour ago. I am relatively clueless but i'm learning. Hi, I have a Lenovo Y70 Touch with Windows 10. Recently, my touchscreen has been malfunctioning.  Randomly, the touchscreen will start receiving touch events at various locations of the screen withouth me touching it, making it nearly impossible to do anything (By touch events, I mean it is as if someone is touching their fingers to my screen over and over again).  I can disable the touchscreen, which makes it so I can do stuff at least, but I would like to use the touchscreen without a problem. It seems like the false touch events are being received in a particular location on the left side of my screen for the most part, which leads me to believe it's a hardware issue. I ran the Lenovo Solution Center tool's hardware test and it didn't find anything, but I also didn't see a test for the touchscreen in there. I'm stumped. Even if it is a hardware issue, I'm not sure how to proceed with Lenovo (I am under warranty, thankfully). Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Since the task switcher and action center can be brought up through buttons on the task bar, is it possible to disable the left and right edge swipe gestures for them? I realize that it may not be a popular opinion, but I came to dislike the edge swipes on Win 8.x because I tend to accidentally trigger them, especially with games that have swipe-like motions. (Fruit Ninja was my first experience with this when the Surface launched. My most recent experience was with Overkill 3 on my DV8P, repeatedly triggering the task switcher while trying to aim with the left onscreen thumb "joystick".)

The touchscreen stopped working suddenly on my Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx. At first i though it was like a normal failure and that will get fixed by turning the pc off or restarting so I did not pay attention to it until now that I had restart my pc multiple times. Currently running win10. I started to believe it was because of an update a few days ago since it was when the problem started but all drivers and everything is up to date. I have checked for the HID-compliant Touch Screen driver and had to  show hidden divices in order to find it. I cannot enable it and when i check in the properties the following message displays: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer." I have no idea on how to connect or how it got disconnected. I come from a similar thread but did not solve my problem. I have been researching this for hours and have not found and answer. Help please!

Hi there, sorry to be a bother.Like the title says, my touch screen stopped working. I went on to my computer one afternoon and found my mouse stuck in the top left corner, fidgeting. This was what I was expiriencing. (My touch-screen still worked fine at the time, but I still couldn't do anything or control the mouse, but I could tell that it was still working and it still responded.) After a bit of time and a few restarts later, it went back to normal, but my touch-screen then stopped working. I'm used to the touch-screen working incorrectly occasionally, and much like the mouse thing, a restart or two helps. It has now been three days and my touchs-creen still does not work. I've tried many of the solutions found in these forums, but to no avail. I am running Windows 10 and have had this computer for 2+ years.  Thanks.

A month ago or so, my touch screen stopped working.  I have not updated or downloaded or changed anything.  Running Windows 8.  When I go into my control panel - system - pen and touch, it says "No pen or touch input is available for this display."   It's worked perfectly the past year, what's up with it now?

After completing some research, it appears a lot of touchscreen users temporarily disable their touchscreen while using their stylus to eliminate stray marks from their hands. They do this by disabling "HID-compliant touch screen" driver in device manager but the TabPro S doesn't have that driver. Any idea what the correlate TabPro S driver is or how to temporarily disable and then enable its touch screen? Thnx!

My other half bought a Nokia Lumia 530, and before she'd even turned it on she tried prizing the back of with a knife (Derrrrrr) an managed to crack the screen in record time 10seconds after gettin it out the box before it was ever switchd on!!!! Iv never had 1 before but every phone iv cracked a screen on has still worked but this touchscreen isnt working at all an its only a small crack at top of screen, any ideas without replacing the screen? As it was only cheap an im guessin a new screen would probaly cost more to buy an fit than the phone did? I could live wiv the crack if only i could still use it, should this happen? An can it still be used? Help needed? Thanks

Answer:Cracked Screen Only Touchscreen Not Working?

Every touchscreen has one point where the digitizer (the touchscreen) has wires coming out of it that connects to the motherboard on the phone. If you crack it there, where the tiny little wires connect, you can completely lose touch on the digitizer. It sounds like that may be unfortunately where your screen cracked. Bing for "Lumia 530 digitizer" to see the cost of a new one.

Okay I just got the laptop today as a gift from a dear friend and I set it up and everything and It's an amazing product.  I am extremely excited about it because I am a graphic designer and I can work as twice now. The problem is the touch screen which I really love. The problem is that 60% of the screen's touch isn't working at all. It was working in the beginning for 30min but it was flickering like someone was clicking on it on random places but when I reinstalled the Elan drivers and restarted I found out that only a small portion of the screen was working. I will upload a video of the problem and I really hope someone can help me. Thank you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8XV07JMTJQ

First of all I was running Windows 8 everything was fine. Upgraded to Windows 8.1 everything was good at first. Months after doing so my touch screen started acting up. It would only work when I position the screen a certain way. So I stopped messing with it because I thought it was a wiring problem inside the computer. I would fix it later, And then sadly I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed shortly after there was no touch screen options at all. It says there is no Pen and Touch. Today it was listed in the control panel so I started messing with it. Drivers were there all up to date. They said the Device did not migrate. It was 2 or 3 drivers listed for the touch screen and they all said the same thing. After a restart they were no longer in the device manager and no options in the control panel anymore. Please help me figure this out... Thank you.

What's the model name and complete model number of that Toshiba?
(2 sets of characters separated by a dash comprise the complete model number)

If that Toshiba wasn't tested for and doesn't provide driver support for Windows 10, you can expect some of its devices not to work properly or not work at all.
That tends to be more of a problem with laptops than it does with desktops.

I am not sure exactly at what point it happened but I recently found that the touch screen on my Elite X2 1011 was not working. The pen still functions normally. When checking the pen and touch settings I can only configure the pen settings and only "Pen support" is listed in view pen and touch settings. The touch screen used to work in both the original Windows 8.1 and then also after upgrading to Windows 10. There have been no error messages and the event logs do not seem to indicate any problems; it is as though the machine has just forgotten it is a touch screen. I have tried reinstalling drivers, reinstalling both Windows 10, and going back to Windows 8.1 to no avail. I really loved this little device but ease of use is cut rather drastically without the touch functionality. Has anyone else had a problem like this and have a solution? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Hi, possibly right after installing some updates, i saw that the cursor was big as if i was holding my finger there, and it was on the bottom left of the screen, sometimes flickering as if i was swiping the screen, though i'm not doing anything. Could this have to do anything with me getting something on the screen, or the fact that the corner of the pc was bent and was pressing into the upper right corner of the screen? I don't really need or want to use the touchscreen, so if i can disable it, that would be excellent, but it would be even better if i could fix the problem so i could still use the touchscreen i can still use the mouse, but sometimes the nonexistent touchpad input interferes with the normal mouse input, so i would greatly appreciate any help for me to solve this problem. I tried looking for where the touchscreen drivers for the ideapad were, so i could update them, but i'm not sure where to find them.thanks, david

The screen is only cracked in the corner which is why I thought i would still be able to use my phone but the touch screen wont work at all. This has never happened to a touch screen phone I have owned before why has this happened?

Answer:I dropped my phone and the screen cracked however instantly the touch screen stopped working.

You could try rebooting your phone and see if you fixed it, but you may have cracked the digitizer in the exactly wrong spot. It could have been the corner where the wires connect to the digitizer that has broken the circuit. You're likely looking at needing to replace your touchscreen.

The display of my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j004sa Notebook is cracked from top to bottom. This has resulted in the touch screen ceasing to function... what am I to do? Can I send my laptop off to be mended, or do I have to take it back to John Lewis to get it mended? What is the likely cost of fixing it?

Answer:Screen cracked, touch screen not working, HP ENVY TouchSmart...

It's not covered under HP warranty for any reason as I found out.  They will repair it for about $250.

Hey all, I woke up this morning and started using my computer to find that there were white spots on my computer screen that I had not previously noticed. I have had the computer for two years and haven't had any similar issues. There does not appear to be anything wrong with the pixels, as the color changes appropriately - it's just brighter. Furthermore, the bright spots on the screen heat up much more than the rest of the screen, which remains cool. I also noticed that, though this may be a separate issue, the touch screen isn't responding. Here is an image (it's much more noticeable on a white background): http://imgur.com/09sYisg   Any help is much appreciated!

Well, it was bound to happen. After 20 plus years in corporate tech support, unpacking, configuring, and shipping laptops all over the world for the first time I cracked a laptop screen. Unfortunately, this laptop screen was attached to my personal HP Envy Touch Smart 15 Notebook PC.

I have always believed that ?stuff happens?. We live by the luck of the draw. When it?s time it is time. You never know. When I picked up my laptop one morning last week on the way to an offsite there was no mistaking that muffled pop of a cracked screen. Stuff happens.

My screen still worked but no longer with touch screen functionality and I immediately jump on the web to determine the cost of and the degree of difficulty to replace the broken screen. In this site and others, I was surprised by the number of Envy owners who?s broken screen story mirrored my own and whose uploaded photos look uncomfortably familiar.

In almost every uploaded image the impact area was nearly identical, roughly 1.5 cm from the top bevel and nearly perfectly in line with the center of the touchpad.

Many generations of the Envy are designed with a Touchpad that sits in a shallow trough. That trough, the width of the Touchpad, extends out and forms a depression along the outer edge of the laptop.  When closed, the top or lid, with the fragile display, is supported by the stiffer bottom ?half? of the laptop. But a depression on the edge of the keyboard half of the la... Read more

Answer:touch screen not working

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that touchscreen in your Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is not working after upgrading to Windows 8.1.
Try this.

Remove the Wacom touch gesture driver in the device manager.  Make sure to check "uninstall driver".
Then scan for hardware changes. The touch screen driver will start again with a new driver.
Also, in run command, type services.msc and update human interface device service to run automatically.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I have an All-in-one Ideacentre B series. It has touch screen but the touch screen functionality was never originially setup when I setup the PC for the first time. I'm trying to get it working now but having a few issues: 1) The Tablet PC Settings menu is impossible to find anywhere on my PC. It is NOT in control panel or any other location I have been directed to. The only way I was able to get to this menu was by opening run and entering "shell:::{80F3F1D5-FECA-45F3-BC32-752C152E456E}" 2) After I finally got to this menu by the above method, the Setup, Calibration, and Reset buttons were diabled.  Anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:Touch screen is not working

Was it sold to you as a touch? Did the box say it was touch? You might try a search here.  The control panel should contain a tablet pc setting. Control panel/device manager should show an entry for touch .. you might try to update the driver.

Purchased a Surface after my Lenovo Tablet became stuck in an endless loop of trying to update, failing, restarting, then beginning the process all over again. Purchased a surface tablet assuming MS own flagship product would have updates better tested for its own hardware. Obviously wrong. Touchscreen stopped working after an update (Owned it for about three weeks). I had become quite the Windows fanboy (tablet, phone, desktop, laptop). MS ought charge a commission to Apple for the work they do to turn people to apple. Unfortunately it seems if you don't have the funds to hire an IT department to keep your windows devices "fixed" you will have poor performing devices. Anyway if anyone has any additional ideas on how to fix this problem aside from what's been mentioned love to hear them. Would like to get it fixed before I sell it. Thanks.

Just after i refreshed the system the touchscreen stopped working.I had it replaced but still not working.

Any solutions. I would want one at the earliest

Tried soft and hard reset, after hard reset screen will work to advance to wlan options then will stop reacting. Is there a different way to wipe everything to possibly get the touch screen working again?
I suspect it's a software problem since it's responding for the first 2-3 steps after the hard reset?
Thanks
