Yoga 500-15IBD laptop WIFI card upgrade?

Question: Yoga 500-15IBD laptop WIFI card upgrade?

I am having issues with my current WIFI card not picking up a signal from any distance... and when closer, not always holding a signal. After playing with software upgrade options, I'm considering a WIFI card upgrade, and would like advice as to the ease and value of this option. Thank you in advance for your time and attention in reply. Mike Luke

Preferred Solution: Yoga 500-15IBD laptop WIFI card upgrade?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought the Yoga 500 a week ago however immediately after starting it I have been faced with problems. At first i thought its normal since it is a brand new laptop and it takes time till it adjusts but that didn`t happen. The problems are as follows: 1) The mouse coursor  and touchpad keeps on blocking regularly. I tried it also with an external mouse and I faced the same problems. 2) WIFI:  a) it keeps loosing its signal continually             b) It dissconect from the wifi almost every 30 minutes              c) Whenever i want to reconnect to the wifi it shows there are no connections available eventhough my phone and my girlfriends laptop is already connected ( and there are over 5 other wifi-s available from my neighbors)             d) Every single time I have to use the troubleshooter which says "problem with wireless adapter or acces point". And then it dissconnects again.  Thank you for your help

Hi,
I recently upgraded my Lenovo Yoga 15-IBD to an SSD, with a complete reinstall of Windows. Everything was working great; boot times were quicker and the system was far more responsive. However, the computer randomly freezes now, without any warning. I have to do a hard reset. Reliability monitor gives no clues of what the problem might be. The SSD is brand new, and passed a 'long' test this morning.

I have no idea where to go next; I seems that there is one problem after another with this laptop!

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD Freezes Randomly after SSD Upgrade

Hi soopg.

When it freezes is there anything being logged in the event viewer? (System / Application / Other)

Have you looked at your Storage drivers. Before attempting to update please ensure you have an Image you can fall back to if required. While investigating would also be a good idea to have data backed up. You said this was a clean install so you likely have that point covered.

If you don't have a tool you could check out Macrium Reflect. Free, reliable and tutorial with forum.

You may wish to check out the Driver Verify process.

This tutorial will guide you through the verification process, heed the warnings. Assuming it fails follow the posting instruction in the BSOD section of forum.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

The tutorial states make a restore point. Seems to be a lot of people having issues using restore points hence have an Image.

Answer:Yoga 2 13 (not pro) wifi card upgrade

You can purchase a relatively inexpensive "Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface Adapter" which is readily available from online sellers such as Newegg.com.

Hi. I have recently purchased and installed the 7260NGW Dual Band Wifi Card from "https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GUNZUG0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creative...". However, after installing the new card and booting, I get the message "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failure. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key. Then select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media." Going into the Boot Manager, there are no options for me to boot (i.e. CD, hard disk, usb). The same thing happens when I swap back in the old wifi card. I have tried the solutions at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-2-Pro-Boot-errors/td-p/1665397 but it still does not work. What is going on and is there any other way for me to restore the laptop? If not, is it possible to use a mSATA to USB to retrieve data off my existing SSD? Thanks for all the help.

I love the yoga 2 pro but one compaint was the wireless card was weak and spotty on this great computer. So let's change that.  Fortunatey you can upgrade it fairly easily to the new wireless a/c like in the yoga 3 pro.  Just order up the right wi-fi card on Ebay or through amazon and do this quick fix. Here's the youtube link. Hi, I just purchased a lenovo thinkpad yoga 14 a month ago , I was a bit regret that I did not upgrade my graphic card to NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB and my current graphic card is Intel HD Graphics 5500. I was wondering is it possible to upgrade my graphic card to  NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB? I will back to china for 8 months placement next month, is it possible to upgrade my laptop in china rather than in uk? (still need it for my exam really...) and my wifi is slow as well.. i have to get a adaptor to plug the network cable to get the normal speed, i have three lenovo laptops in home and none of them have that problem. Anybody know why?

Answer:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14 upgrade graphic card and wifi problem

I wouldn't gamble on a successful ending. Wait to replace it after your exams. Upgrade your warranty if necessary to make it last longer. Because it will be an expensive upgrade.

Answer:Upgrade Wifi Card in 15-n066us Laptop

Here's the Service Manual: Manual See pp. 47 and 49-50 for "how to".  The Manual says you have 2 wireless antennae but I would open the service door and be sure of that.  If you have 2 antennae, you do not have a whitelist so you can install any card with the correct form factor. The best for AMD processor systems such as yours is the Broadcom Azurewave.  https://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492460405&sr=8-1&keywords=Broadcom+Azurewave This ia n 802.11ac card that operates in both 5ghz and 2.4 ghz modes and gives the top end Intel cards (which you cannot use) a run for their money in terms of performance. It also provides bluetooth support.  You must however have 2 antennae for this to work right.  If you have only one antenna wire, post back for other options.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I recently bouht refirbished Yoga 500-15IBD, It has Intel HD 5500 and GeForce 940M. When I bought the laptop online I was under the impresion that the display is FHD. Unfortunatly the maximum resolution that I see in the Windwos 10 display settings is 1366x768. Is this a software issue or the display is not FHD? I am wondering if it is possible that seller changed the original FHD display with HD display. I can't find the full spec of the laptop. Machine Type Model: 80N600FWUK.

I bought the yoga 500-15IBD(w/i5 5200U;GT 940m and 8G of RAM) in summer of 2015. At first the notebook is doing fine. But at mid-late 2016 the notebook start acting strange, the CPU start lock the frequency at 0.44 Ghz while charging. I find out that the BD prochot is the reason and I disable it with throttlestop. Then when I start gaming for few minutes the laptop just shut down, because of overheating. So I try playing game with BD prochot on and with battery. And the gameplay become very laggy. Not like low fps, but just very laggy. I monitored the CPU and the CPU just get throttled massively frequently and the frequency just go up and down. Which never happen before, the laptop used to be at least playable with consistent (low) fps.  What should I do. Is some component damaged? Should I clean the fan (I checked the fan and it seems fine to me)? Should I charge the thermal paste?  ps I try to stress test both CPU and GPU, it's fine when doing test alone. But when testing both CPU and GPU the temp of CPU just go sky high (~100 C) and the GPU seems to be cool in terms of temperature(75 C)and than the laptop shut down. Even when testing GPU only while CPU is idle both temp got ~75 C. When doing only CPU test CPU temp ~88 C max and GPU stay at ~55 C. It seems the GPU is transfering heats to the CPU.

Hi, I've tried looking for tech specs (I know the hardware specs) for the monitor so I can work out what pen/stylus would be best for the touch screen. However, I can not find this particular product (spec specific) on the website.  If anyone could help me out that would be great, Ideally I'd like something with pressure levels as I do digitally draw from time to time, and would be helpful whilst writing. But would settle for something that isn't due to owning a GFX tablet anyway. Also, I'm unsure if this ideapad is referred to as a 15, 500 or 8 due to not know where this terminology is based from (model name, model series ect) seems unclear, perhaps I'm just looking into it too much and it is just a 500. Thanks to anyone that spends time reading, and thanks in advance for advice. ~Kris

Hi mariuszwol5, Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums. Based on what I've found out, seems like both models has same specs as you have mentioned. If I'm not mistaken, the difference here is that, the 80N60084PB has this FRU : 18201638, whereas, the 80N6006FPB does not. FRU : 18201638Description : LGD LP156WF4-SPL1 FHD AG S LED1 NB LCDCommodity Code :  LCD PANELS Also checking on the price of the part itself, based on ebay, it is around USD $99.00. Which as per google, 400 PLN = 98.21 USD.  Hope this helps!

I bought a new Yoga 500 15IBD 2 Months ago and since a view weeks the Laptop had several power breakdowns while in battery mode. All of a sudden the Laptop turns black, all lights and the hdd turns off and I have to connect the power cord to get it started again - although the Battery certainly isn't empty according to the OS-Battery indicators AND often having the Laptop fully charged less than half an hour ago. (The Yoga runs for at least 3 hours if the bug does not appear). Now this is no driver issue, I have the problem while running Windows 10, Linux Mint and Backbox Linux. I suppose it's either a battery issue or a faulty architectual design. Since  I see a lot of similar power-off related messages accross the spectrum of lenovo devices, could someone finally publically explain the source of the problem so there is a chance to get rid of it ... especially in future products?

Hi, I got a problem with my laptop. The fan is making loud noise everytime I open a new window, a new tab, any setting window and so. I believe it is supposed to make this kind of noise when I'm stressing it with more programs running, not by simply open the files explorer... Any idea on what to do? (model is Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD)ThanksNstant

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD loud fan noise

Hi Nstant,  Most probably a program or App is running at the background cause fast spinning fan to cool down CPU temp.  To figure it out, right click in your taskbar and from the opened menu click on task manager.  -From top menu click on performance tab then click on resource monitor ==> from top menu click on CPU tab and look at to the Average CPU usage and see which App or Program is using a high percentage of your CPU capacity==> right click on it and end the process.  .Regards,  **If the issue has been resolved please, mark me as solution provided to help others find the solution easily and click the Kudos.**

Answer:Yoga 500 - 15IBD - Bios update went wrong

What you can see there is a Boot menu. Your laptop can't boot from disk and display boot selection menu. Try to enter BIOS (can't say how to do it, as you didn't told which Yoga model do you have) and try to change boot settings from UEFI -> Legacy (or in other way) and/or disable Secure Boot. Check if after these changes your laptop will be able to boot.

Posting the .dmp file (google is your friend) would almost certainly flag the culprit.

Hi everybody, when I unplug the charger on my yoga 500 the screen starts to flicker like a rave party, I have searched like crazy all over and have found no solution to the problem. Things already tested:-Unplugging and plugging battery cable.-Disabling Windows error reporting service and Problem reports and solutions-Trying to update intel drivers from driver section and intel site.-Trying to update, and disable realtek hd audio driver. Things to take in account:-When connected to a second monitor, the new one won't flicker.-Laptop has warranty voided because of ssd install. (problem still occurs on bios with and withouth an HDD/SSD) so it shouldn't be considered a Windows 10 problem.-After SSD install, windows update doesn't allow me to update anything. I believe it thinks I'm booting from external hard drive. I cloned the original HDD into the SDD so that shouldn't be happening-Flickers increase with mouse, cursor and touch. Anybody has a fix for this? My Yoga 500 ideapad totally loses it when I plug it into power. The CPU slows down imidiately and runs at 100% usage every time I make an action (opens Chrome takes like 30 seconds). In Speccy, I can see, that the CPU runs at a speed of approx. 500 Mhz (Core speed). If I unplug the laptop, the speed goes up to like 1,9 Ghz when I opens chrome (chrome opens instantly) and CPU usage maxes out at 40% or so. I can now close Chrome, plug in the laptop once again, and if I open chrome now,it maxes out at 500 Mhz speed with 100% CPU usage. I have just completely reinstalled windows (10, 64 bit) hoping that this would solve the problem. But it haven'tI have downloaded ALL the drivers and software possible from Lenovos own support page for my laptop, I have ran numerous tests from Lenovo, and other thirdparty applications, no one in which finds any problems. What should I do? I have done everything in my power to try and fix this problem. I have tried every possibly advanced power options, I have even changed the "when plugged in" power options to match the "on battery" ones, but without any change in performance. I cannot figure out, if this is a problem with my power supply? Or the CPU itself? And no tests suggests any problems...  Anyone able to help me out with troubleshooting? Based on search I made, it seems to be possible to change yoga 2 pro wifi card "intel 7260" to more capable version of the same Intel 7260AC. I find it hard to find this model here in Europe, so I'm asking if the same change could be made with Intel 7265 card? Thanks for the help!

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro wifi card change

I don't think the most recent BIOS white list will allow the Intel 7265 card. Yoga 2 Pro BIOS white list combo cards   You can find several companies offering the  7260AC on eBay. more info:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Re-Yoga-2-Pro-Wifi-Problems/td-p/1452437/...

I have a dilemma where I need to downgrade the WiFi hardware on my newly purchased Lenovo Yoga 3 pro.  It came with the Broadcom AC WiFi adapter.  I plan on using this to run WiFi surveys and the software I use for this purpose does not support A/C and also does not support the Broadcom hardware.  It does however support B/G/N and the Intel 6200/6300 which is what came with the Yoga 2. I've found these cards on Ebay for ~$20, however I've been reading that the BIOS will not allow you to downgrade to an older version and also that the WiFi adapters are somehow "locked" to Lenovo hardware.  Does anyone have any experience/advice concerning this?

Answer:Downgrade WiFi card on Yoga 3 Pro

Hello and welcome,

I don't have any experience swapping cards in my Y3P.  The Hardware Maintenance Manual - Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro-1370 Page 55 only lists two whitelisted cards:  the Broadcom and an Intel card.

Because of the whitelist, a card has to be the correct model and have a Lenovo FRU number.  A generic 7265 won't pass the BIOS check.

Availability is likely to be a problem, even if your software supports a 7265.

Sorry I can't be of more help,
Z.

Answer:So which Wifi card to purchase for Yoga 2?

You don't really have choice but to get the Intel 7260 NGW since that's the only 802.11ac card that is allowed by the whitelist. If you want the Broadcom's M.2 WiFi adapter which then becomes ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Network Adapter when loaded with ASUS drivers(http://www.asus.com/Networking/PCEAC68/HelpDesk_Download/),  (basically, the one I have which works perfectly and doesn't bear 7260's issues) you have to flash a hacked BIOS which voids warranty. For most Y2P users who upgraded to 7260 NGW, they are extremely satisfied with its stability and performance.

Hi, For some reason after latest shutdown my wifi adapter just stopped working. And I dont see anyone have similar issue previously here, and I cannot figure out why adapter is like switched off, but Ideapad 100 does not have phisical wifi adapter switch to turn it of. So here is what I've tried/checked (using Win7 Ult x64 btw): Adapter is enabledDisable/Enable to adapterReinstall of all network adaptersUninstall of wifi adapter+driver removal, clean apater install with new driver from lenovo homepageTurn it off and on in BIOSCheched that WLAN service is starting automaticallyThought that maybe I have flight mode on (btw there is no pop-up msg that would inform in win7 if you tur it on and off), so I've played with that so far that I even disabled hotkeys in BIOS to be sure that I tur it on or off with some of action. Disabled option in adapter that PC can turn it offRollback For now Im out of ideas, what else I can check. Basically apater acts like it has been phisically turned off, but my pc does not have switch to tur it off, so I cannot figure out how to turn it on. Next step I can see is only format and clean install, but I badly dont want to do it. Hope someone has an idea what has happened there and get my wifi adapter back to life.

Hi there, Kipis -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Can you try the following?

Press Fn+F5 to enable the wireless card (ensure Current Status is set to "ON")
If pressing Fn+F5 can't turn the wireless status to ON, ensure that the physical wireless switch is on the ON position.
If same problem, boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 on startup and ensure that the WLAN Device is Enabled.

Update us how it goes.

After experiencing Wireless issues I tried to upgrade my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13" with Windows 8.1 64Bit to the latest drivers from the lenovo support site. Ever since I cannot connect to the WLAN anymore. What puzzles me is that the driver status in the device manager shows a different driver version than what I have installed (uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it doesn't change anything here). What puzzles me is the Lenovo Website shows driver version 16.6.0.8 (released 25.Jan.2014, see link below), whereas my system display version is 16.6.2.1 (dated 31.10.2013). Hence I thought I have another version from somewhere else on my and removed all driver versions I could find.Checking driver details I get the follow file versions:   C:\windows\system32\drivers\NETwbw02.sys    version 16.6.2.1 Intel, dated 2011   C:\windows\system32\drivers\Netwfw02.dat       no version or publisher   C:\windows\system32\drivers\vwifibus.sys          version 6.3.9600.16384 Microsoft Still, whenever I deinstall the driver, install the files from lenovo and click "Detect new device" my system pulls the drivers as listed above and is incapable of connecting to any WiFi. Windows 8.1. shows no connections available and doesn't connect anymore. How can I get my WLAN back? regards   Florian Lenovo Driver URL: http://support.lenovo.com/e... Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro: WiFi doesnt work after driver upgrade

hi Florian,

If Windows Update is configured to automatically fetch updates from Microsoft then the machine most likely have installed the Intel driver update for Intel(R) Wireless N-7260 as discussed in this article (which explains the different driver versions).

Things that you can try:
1. If the machine comes with the Intel(R) Wireless N-7260, navigate to:
 - Device Manager
 - Network Adapters
 - Intel(R) Wireless N-7260 (right click > update driver software)
 - Browse my computer for driver software
 - Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (you will then see a list of drivers, check if you have the version 16.6.0.8 from Lenovo and choose it and observe.

2. Restart the machine and boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2 on the Lenovo screen). Once you're in, navigate to the Configuration Tab and ensure Wireless is set to Enabled (if applicable).
 - Link to picture

3. Perform a System Restore and choose a date before the issue began. (this will restore the unit to an earlier point in time where wireless connection is working fine)

4. Perform a Refresh / Reset or press the OneKey Recovery button (this will restore the unit to factory settings - ensure that you backup important files first).

hello there, i have recently upgraded my service to 200mbs with a dual band smart router, modem and router capable of 1000mbs, after upgrade i come to find my wifi card only recieves 2.4ghz channel, its pitiful that my cell phone can get 140mbs on 5ghz and my new laptop can only get 100mbs via ethernet and less than 20mbs wireless, i took it to the local computer store and he did not want to touch the machine because this model is extremely hard to get into and i have read that if it only has One antenna i would have to disassemble the display aswell , so i am basically asking several questions, (1) can i upgrade to a card that is 2 x 2 A/b/g/n/AC 867mbs  like the intel 7260 or 8260 (2) does this machine have the required 2 antennas so i do not have to take apart the display?. i find it ludacris that this machine came out in 2016 and is not capable of reaching passed 100mbs, i would have never purchsed it, i intend to keep upgrading speed as long as my ISP keeps giving me good deals on service, i pay $60 for 200mbs.....card is realtek RTL8723benf Single band 2.4ghz 100mbs......thank you in advance

I bought the Yoga 3 Pro - 1370 80HE laptop from USA and using it in India. After using a month it started showing problems with WiFi. Whenver WiFi is enabled in the device manager, system hangs. When contacted the Lenovo support they asked to contact the local service provider - Qbic solutions, Chennai for servicing. Initially I was told that the device is having some contact issue and handed over the device after escalating to the Services Executive Director. It worked fine for 2 days and again started showing the same issue. Again I raised service request and special services team contacted me. They asked me to contact the Qbic solutions and assured that senior technical person will look into it to provide a permanent solution. Few days after I was told that the WiFi card is having issue and needs replacement. I agreed to replace the card and asked them to observed for few days after replacement. I got the laptop back after the service but this time I'm facing another issue. Wifi is not working when the router is more than 10 feet distance. Also the laptop was mishandled in the service as I can see lot of scratches on the device. When I contacted the special services team, they asked me to handover the device again to the same service center to look into the issue. Since I'm not satisfied with the service, I requested for the refund or replacement, but Lenovo is not ready to do that. Now I've contacted the US support team and waiting for them to respond back ... So recently updated my computer with the latest Windows 8.1 Update. Turn my computer on today and I'm getting a symbol with an X and a screen and a cable for the internet connection. I cannot locate my WIFI card and my WIFI card is not showing in Device Manager (disabled or enabled) it's just missing.. Did my WIFI card burn out randomly?? What could of happened?? Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro No Wifi Card Showing in Device Manager

A few things to look at.  In Device Manager, look for anything with a '?' or for any unknown devices.  It might be there as an unknown device.  Up at the top of Device Manager, also click VIEW and check 'Show Hidden Devices'.  It should not be a hidden device, but it can't hurt to look.  If you do see a device in there with the '?' unknown device, that may be your wireless card with no drivers so it is totally unknown to Windows.  Get the driver in ZIP format, unzip the file into a folder.  Right-click the unknown device and 'Update Driver'.  Click 'Browse for driver' and navigate to where the driver you unzipped is and choose it.  Hopefully it will install the driver and become known again to Windows. Other than Windows just not knowing what the device is, I don't know.  It would be terrible luck to have it go out when you updated Windows.

Hey all,

I bought a TPY from Newegg, which shipped with the Intel Wireless-N 7260. The laptop finds and connects to my home network fine, but can't find my work WiFi network at all. I've tried a few different drivers to no avail. Would buying and installing the dual band version of this card, or getting the Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 make a difference?

And if so, can someone double check that this is the right part? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106190

I know there's a whitelist in the BIOS, but I assume that if other models ship with the AC card then I can swap it in.

The model type number is 20CD-0033US S/N **********

Answer:Manually upgrading Thinkpad Yoga WiFi card

Hello and welcome,

The whitelist requires the correct model and a Lenovo FRU number.  That NewEgg card looks to be generic Intel and won't pass the whitelist.

The  FRU's are available in the TP Yoga part list:  http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/yoga_fru_bom_20131107.pdf

I'm having a hard time figuring out which one is dual-band.  Hopefully someone else here on the boards can provide info.  Price and availability is going to be an issue

Before you go down that road, have you verified that your work wifi is 5GHz-only, and that there isn't some other problem?

I have asked this question multiple times in the wifi problems thread about yoga pro 2, but it seems like no official representative seems to be answering our calls of whether it works or not. I want to buy a 7265, NOT 7260 intel card for my lenovo yoga pro 2. I will buy it from wherever Lenovo will advise me to buy. Can you please just tell me which one it works on my laptop and I will buy it immediately! By the way, my Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 is made for the Croatian market I think(even though I'm a Macedonian and I bought it from an official Macedonian Lenovo reseller and now my keyboard layout is messed up with croatian letters, but that's another story). Is this BIOS lock active on my model as well like the US models have? Can I exchange my wifi card for whatever wifi card?

Answer:Will the Intel 7265 Wifi Card Work on my Yoga Pro 2 ??

I also have the Yoga 2 Pro and want to upgrade to the 7265. Been looking everywhere and it looks like the form factor and everyting are compatible, the only issue I could see is the card not being on the BIOS whitelist, which seemed to be a problem with people trying to upgrade to 7260s in the past. I called Lenovo tech support and the rep assured me that it will work as long as I have the proper drivers. I am a bit skeptical because he didn't directly confirm that I wouldn't have any issues with the 7265 being on the whitelist.  Either way, I just ordered the card from Amazon. So we will see and I will update when it comes.

Hi, I changed the wifi card to a Intel Wireless-AC 7260 to have 5Ghz and decent speed. The BIOS does not accept this as it is not whitelisted. Manually modifiying the BIOS would not be a huge problem but i refuse to do this because I bought this laptop with my money, don't want any company (neither Lenovo nor FCC) to limit what I do. I live in germany, so FCC is not my part. I bought this laptop and can do with it whatever I want. I am just pissed about this and dont want to spend my own time to fix this. I never had a Laptop with device whitelist before. Would I have known this before I bought it, I would have chosen another device / company. Is there anything I can do to avoit manipulating the BIOS on my own? Thanks for help. Silberling.

I was wondering if anyone has upgraded or swapped out their hdd for a solid state drive on the Ideapad 305 15IBD? My specific model number is 80NJ00F5UK, I have been able to find an mSata ssd drive which says its compatible with the 305 IBD, but not the exact model number above.  To be honest Im pretty happy with the performance of the 1TB hdd that i have but just want to confirm whether its possible or not to swap out for an ssd if I wanted to in the future.  The main reason would be to squeeze a bit more battery life, as its one area where the laptop is a bit weak. mSata SSDhttps://www.ipc-computer.eu/notebook-spareparts/lenovo/300-serie/ideapad-305-15ibd-80nj005j/hdd-12

Answer:How to upgrade from hd to ssd on ideapad 100-15ibd 80qq

Hi jamienffc ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can use the hardware manual for disassembly guide (page39) and likewise follow the steps advised on this thread:

" 1. Install the ATIH on the HDD2. Insert SSD into the external USB box. Yes, this advice is in opposite of goretsky's one. That box costs 10...20 bucks3. Launch the ATIH, select the clonong process:a)the whole driveb)in manual mode (leave the size of partition System_DRV as is, partition C: will be resized in proportion, as well as the Q: )4. The app will reboot the laptop for the cloning process.5. Wait several hours . After finish replace the SSD and the HDD. Boot from the SSD.6. If you have Factory Recovery media already you can delete Lenovo_Recovery partition on the SSD. Resize the system partition (add the free size from the Q: ), even make the new partition7. Reinstall Lenovo R&R applicationn in order to get working ThinkVantage button at the laptop boot stage."

Some vendors have their own cloners offered free with the SSD , on this thread Acronis True Image 2014 (Home) was used but you can freely choose one that you are more familiar with.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

My Yoga 13 came with a Realtek RT8723A 802.11n Wi-Fi card, which apparently does not support 5G, only 2.4G. Is there an upgrade card available that supports both 2.4G and 5G?       Omission of 5G support inexcusable for this top of the line Yoga, a product management blunder IMHO..

Answer:Is upgrade available for yoga wi-fi card?

What's G?This isn't cellphone networking, so you probably mean GHz.Any specific reason why you require 5GHz?

HI There, I have a Yoga 2 13 bought late, last year with the foll specs: Intel i5-4210U CPU 1.7 Ghz -2.4 Ghz4 GB RAM64 bit Win 8.1INtel (HD) GraphicsModel No: 20344 Would anyone know if I can upgrade its graphics card to a professional Graphics card? Thank you.

Answer:Graphics card upgrade for Yoga 2 13

You can't upgrade the video, but it has the Intel 4400 integrated video chipset so it'll handle any usual 'professional' work unless you are a professional gamer or a professional 3D modeller or some such.

Hi there, im currently using a Lenovo Yoga 500 (laptop) which is rocking an 8gb intel core i5 ram and ,sadly, an Intel(R) HD Graphics 520... i find that the graphics card really bottlenecks the laptop's potential when gaming, and have found that its high time to replace the graphics card with something better.
My question is: is it safe for me replace my graphics card, and what card shall i go for? how easy will it be? i have lots of questions, would really appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Answer:Yoga 500 - Help - Graphics Card Upgrade

Good day and welcome to the community.Intel HD Graphics 520 support is integrated into the CPU chipset. There is no discrete GPU or removable graphics card to upgrade on this machine.

Looking at one of the Yoga 500 hardware manuals: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/yoga_500-14isk_500-15isk_hmm_201509.pdf there appear to be system boards that offered discrete graphics (still soldered), so your only option would be a full system board swap.

Hope this helps to clarify.Regards.

Hello.  Certain games I play on my Lenovo Yoga 900 crash and the reason is that I think the graphics card is not powerful enough. The display driver often stops responding. I was wondering if I could upgrade the graphics card from the Intel HD Graphics 520 to the GeForce GTX 980 or something else. Thanks.

Answer:Upgrade graphics card Lenovo Yoga 900

Good day and welcome to the community.

There is no way to upgrade the graphics subsystem on your machine. The Intel HD 520 is integrated in the chipset package. Though some laptops have discrete graphics chips, almost none were socketed. They're soldered, instead.

Hope this helps to clarify.

I am trying to upgrade my wifi card in my laptop and i have almost decided which card to buy, the IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Plus Bluetooth. however due to the whitelist issues on some of the hp laptop bios's i am unsure if it will be compatible. does anyone know if this card is whitelisted or not for the hp g56 130-sa?

Answer:hp g56 130-sa wifi card upgrade

Hi: Unfortunately, your notebook's BIOS has the whitelist which means you can only install one of the supported wireless network cards listed in the service manual for your notebook. It also must have the HP part number on it or it will not work. The Intel 7260 AC card will definitely not work in your notebook.

Hi I want to upgrade my Wifi card to a dual band so i can use 5ghz Wifi. I currently have a Broadcom BCM94313HMGB fitted which I would like to upgrade. Can annyone recommend which one would be suitable? Thanks

Answer:Wifi Card Upgrade

Hi, From the first manual of the following link:      http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-g6-Notebook-PC-series/5145704/model/5172313/manuals Your machine was built in year 2011. The chance to upgrade to 5GHz wireless card is very slim to none. There is a list of wifi cards supported on page 5, none of them is dual band. You can use:           http://www.netgear.com.au/home/products/networking/wifi-adapters/a6200.aspx?cid=gwmng or         http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology/networking/wireless-usb-adapters Regards.

We are experiencing wifi interference between our probook and Netgear AC791 Jet Pack in some RV parks where we stay. The jetpack can use 5 ghz as can all our other devices, our probook can't. The jetpack can transmit on both, but is much slower on dual band than on either 2.4 or 5 ghz. so, how much effort and is it possible to upgrade the wifi in our probook to 5 ghz? Thanks for any direction you can provide.

Answer:Is it possible to upgrade my wifi card

GrumpyOldTimer Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Sorry, but with laptops, the WiFi is integrated into the system board with a chipset. This is not a customer-replaceable part.

Question: wifi card upgrade

Hi, I want to upgrade my wireless 801.11/bg for a new intel 5100 draft-n card. Why all models offered of these cards have a special mention that they are not made for Lenovo's and HP laptops? Do i have a special model to looking for? Third question, if i find the model of card i need, do the antenas are in place already in my computer?  From what i read, i have a GM45 chipset.  PS: I know i should have ordered with the 5100 option but did'nt know what it was. Brand new Lenovo SL500. Thanks! Enrique

Answer:wifi card upgrade

The Intel 5100 is listed as FRU 43Y6493 in the SL500 HMM [go to page 176 to verify if it is compatible with your model].

Hi recently my lenovo z585 has been slowing down in term of internet speed and after trauling the internet and trying most support options ive had enough so ive looked into purhasing a diffrent wifi card to replace my currentQualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG wireless network adapter and ive settled on the:  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-7260-HMWWB-Wireless-AC-802-11ac-Bluetooth/dp/B00E7QGHE6/ref=sr_1_1?s=c...  by intel it seems to have everything i want ina card but i just read on a forum that some sort of whitelist exists in the bios of all machines and if i buy one not covered by that my machine wont accept it. so can anyone tell me if the bios of my lenovo z585 ideapad will accpet this paticular card and if not is there a way to update the bios so that it will be accepted?

Answer:Can i upgrade my wifi card?

Typically Lenovo whitelists every network adapter asides from the ones they use in your model of laptop.

I have an Inspiron N7110, which came with an Intel centrino N 1030 wireless network card. Intel just updated the drivers for the 1030 on all OS's except windows 10. My internet connection goes on and off constantly. I found a pretty short list on intel.com of windows 10 supported drivers:
IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
IntelŽ Wireless-N 7260
IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160
IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265
IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-N 7265
IntelŽ Wireless-N 7265
IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165
IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 (64-bit only)
IntelŽ Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265
IntelŽ Wireless Gigabit 11000
I'm hoping someone knows if any of the above wifi cards would be fit for a replacement of my 1030.

Answer:Must Upgrade Wifi Card

I was hoping the Service Manual would indicate that, but it doesn?t seem to. This thread shows pictures of them side by side though, so if you want to open up your system, you can see which you have: communities.intel.com/.../60858
Mini PCIe = HMC, which Intel identifies with HMW in the model name.
M.2 = NGFF, which Intel identifies with NGW in the model name.
