Asus touchpad how do i disable

Question: Asus touchpad how do i disable

I had the touch pad disabled on my asus N76V when an external mouse was connected - which is 99% of the time. It was pretty simple in my mouse settings.
Since installing W10 it no longer shuts off. I even went so far as following an instruction to go into startup and disabling a setting.
When i use the key board I continuously move the pointer all over the key board and at time click it by accident.

thank you for your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How can I disable the ASUS touchpad on my ASUS laptop?

The latest Windows 10 upgrade restored the functionality of the touchpad, which I had disabled. I have uninstalled the touchpad driver and restarted the computer three times from Control Panel, but it still works. I can't find the software in MSConfig.

Answer:How to Disable ASUS Touchpad?

Edit: After posting it struck me that you might want to disable the Touchpad completely (not just Smart Gesture) to use a Mouse.
? Does FN+F9 keys work to disable and enable Touchpad
? Control Panel > ASUS Smart Gesture > Mouse Detection then tick Disable touchpad when mouse is plugged-in

I guess you mean you wet to Device Manager and uninstalled the driver ?
Have you gone to:
? Programs and Features
? Select ASUS Smart Gesture
? Select Uninstall
? Restart you computer

Note: ATK Package is also associated with the Touchpad but it is also essential for the functioning of various other items like the FN keys and more, so uninstalling that can cause problems.
Having said that, if Smart Gesture is being installed again after Restart you could try uninstalling Smart Gesture and ATK Package then Restart then install just ATK Package

In case you are unsure how to get a copy of ATK Package:
? Go to your local Asus website @ ASUS
? Click on Support On some sites you must click on Service first then Support
? Enter the Model Name in the Search field and select from the results
? If necessary select Drivers & Tools
? Choose your OS (Windows 10 )
? Click on ATK
? Select the latest version (there is probably only one)
? To the right of Downlo... Read more

Asus P52F, O.S. 7 Professional.
Had problems with hard drive which was replaced and new Windows 7 installed.
All Asus references were removed.
I use a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical instead of the Touchpad. I have found that the pad is so sensitive that when I type emails, word files, etc. that the letters jump about. I have tried to disable the Touchpad via the Mouse settings, also Fn + F9 but nothing works. there is no reference to the Touchpad in Device Manager also, so I can't disable the driver!
Help please....this has taken a long time to type as the letters are jumping about!

Answer:Can't disable Asus Touchpad

In Device Manager it should be under Mice and other pointing devices.

This issue was raised in another thread which was closed out before it was resolved. I have an ASUS Notebook K53e and I want to disable the touchpad on it which the specific make/model is ELAN PS/2 Port Smartpad. You should be able to do this with Fn+F9 however that keyboard function does not work on my computer as the guy in the previous thread. When I got to devmgmt.msc->Properties on the device->Driver , the "Disable" button is greyed out. I did not receive a driver CD with the machine I purchased . I need this thing disabled because it interferes with the typing very badly. Where do I go from here? Thanks,

Answer:Cannot disable ASUS Notebook Touchpad

Well, I just found the fix myself after posting this thread. You have to go to Control panel->Hardware and Sound->Devices & Printers-> Right click on the PC device->Mouse Settings->ELAN tab there is an option to Stop Device. Pain the arse mate

Hi guys,

Am not sure if this is the right category for this post, but here goes.

I want to disable the touchpad of my laptop whenever I plug in a USB mouse. So far, I can't disable it in anyway.

I've downloaded and installed the touchpad driver from the ASUS website, and installed it. I believe I'm supposed to see a Synaptics tab on my mouse properties window, but I'm not seeing it anywhere.

Even the Fn+F9 function isn't work. Then I realized even the volume control function keys aren't working too. (Brightness and wifi function shortcuts are working, though).

Can somebody help please?

Thanks in advance.

I need to disable my touchpad. I've tried in the control panel and tried the suggestions from posts on this site. Nothing works. My cursor jumps up to the right corner when I'm typing, when I'm using the mouse or even when I'm not touching anything. I use another mouse but that does not help. If it helps you, this computer originally had Windows 8. I had it removed and Windows 7 installed.

In Windows 8 the option is called SmartSense. Disabling this worked for me.

Press Win+W to bring up Settings Search
Type "synaptic"
Double Click "SmartSense"
Slide the Slider all the way to "Off"
Click "Close" and then "OK"

This will Disable the Anti-Palm detection which prevents simultaneous Keyboard and Mouse use. I recommend you re-enable this feature when you're not gaming as otherwise you risk problems while typing.

I'm so frustrated I'm about to throw the laptop into the wall. I keep disabling the touchpad tapping from the mouse ultranav settings on this t430u but it doesn't get disabled. As I keep working, the mouse keeps getting tapped and destroying everything and slowing me down.  Even tried disabling the touchpad altogether but it keeps on working.  Whats wrong? What can I do to reverse this ? I'm on windows 8 pro of course

Answer:Can't disable the tapping on the touchpad or even the touchpad itself on the T430u?

What I do is install ThinkPad touchpad driver and uninstall thinkpad touchpad utility.  You may need to go to an older version of the driver, as Lenovo obviously doesn't bother with regression testing when releasing updated drivers.

Dell 2-in-1 3147:
The "DELL Pointing Devices" dialog shows a "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" checkbox. If this checkbox is clear, the touchpad works properly. When this checkbox is marked, the touchpad does not work at all.
I have tried both USB and Bluetooth mice, and neither one allows the proper action: the touchpad should be enabled without a mouse, and the touchpad should be disabled with a mouse.  That's how it works on other systems.  It just doesn't work at all on this system.
I suspect there is some interaction between the touchpad and the touchscreen that is interfering with this setting.  But I have another laptop with a touchpad and a touchscreen, and the mouse detection works there (it's not a DELL).
Yes, I have toyed with the idea of deleting the DELL touchpad control application and installing a "stock" Synaptics touchpad driver.  But I don't want the DELL  "update" app to overwrite it with the DELL touchpad control app every time it sees "the wrong driver" loaded.  And I don't want to take the chance that the touchpad driver and the touchscreen driver are somehow linked together, thus disabling one when I disable the other.
Any ideas on how to get the "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" action working would be welcome.

I do not like the touch pad. When I had Windows 8.1, I simply disabled it. But Windows 10 has a mind of it's own. I go into settings for touch pad and put a check mark where it says "disable touch pad". But as soon as I restart, the touch is enabled. I go where I put the check mark and it's gone--Windows just un-checked it. There are a couple of places where I can disable it, but upon restarting it goes back to where it was. I even went in Device Manager and disabled it there, but the same thing happens.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad R500 laptop on which Win 10 hasbeen installed. The laptop was given to me just to try Win 10. I dislike usingthe touch pad and want to disable it but I can't do it. One way that issupposed to work is to go to Control Panel and bring up the mouse icon. Whenyou click on its Properties it should bring up "UltraNav" tab. But thetab is not there. No matter what I do the tab is not there. I finally went on aweb site that said to install UltraNav and the site gave me a link to down loadthe installation file which I did. But as I tried to install it finally came upwith a message that said, "Synaptics device not found." I did asearch to see if I had a file named UltraNav but there is no such file. Just got new yoga thinkpad ultrabook at work and i cannot turn off the touchpad.  the f6 trick doesnt work and i tried every combo of FN keys to be sure. IT installed the thinkpad software that gives you al the options in mouse properties but there is no button to turn off the touch pad. closest i can come is "use trackpoint only" and even then, if you press down on the pad it clicks. i was able to uncheck most boxes so most of the incidental issues while typing go away but i still do rest my palms on there and i have issues. i'm convinced its some kind of driver issue but maybe not? driver is synaptics 18.0.7.103 under synaptics device properties under device manager the only thing is synaptics pointing device and no option to disable it even when IT was on as admin.

Question: Disable Touchpad??

Toshiba laptop running xp sp3. The cursor jumps to random places in any word type program; notepad, Word, email replies, etc. Very annoying. I am thinking that maybe my wife is touching the touch pad while she types. However, I can't find any way to disable the touch pad. Under Device manager, the only thing showing is the USB mouse. Same in Control panel, only the USB mouse is shown. No icon for the touch pad in the tray. Anyone have an idea?

Answer:Disable Touchpad??

Yup. She is most definitely hitting the touchpad while typing. And while it isn't a problem that the mouse moves around. It is that "Tap to Click" is enabled. I had to download some really old synaptic mouse driver, since the driver windows wanted to give me wouldn't let me disable it.

I take it you have a USB mouse plugged in.

Have you tried unplugging it and checking the Device Manager to see what it says?

I have a new HP Pavilion 17-g101dx with a Logitech mouse installed.

My problem, shared by numerous people, is that I cannot keep the touchpad

The cure seems to be dowloading driver 19.0.19.1 from Synaptics's website.
I download it and unzip then run the exe file and it says it is installed but
when I go back to the Device Manager it does not list the correct driver
number. This is after I do the required restart.

I have even uninstalled the driver which does no good.

Any suggestions.

Anyone know how I can disable the touchpad ? It has never worked properly on this machine - too long list of problems to get into... I tried the function hot keys - that does not work. I reinstalled the Hot Key drivers Fn F8 still does not work to turn off trackpad I went into BIOS and the trackpad option does not even showup under Mouse/Pointing Devices. Lenovo tech support has no idea (they can't fgure out why the hot key does not work and the BIOS does not list...) Anyone???

Answer:How to Disable Touchpad

I would assume that you are using a Thinkpad Edge, as that is the forum you posted it in. If you are using a thinkpad edge, then you have Lenovo Ultranav. If these are true, then here is how you disable the trackpad: 1) Click the start button.2) Click "Control Panel"3) Click "Hardware and Sound"4) Under the top heading, which is "Devices and Printers" click on the link "Mouse".5) In the diolog box that opens, click the tab that says "UltraNav"6) There will be two sections, one for the TrackPoint and one for the TouchPad (Trackpad). Uncheck the box next to the words "Enable TouchPad". I hope this helps. Thanks,SonofNun

Hello. Long time no see. My mom has a Gateway mx-3230 laptop that she only wants to use a mouse on. The computer has had a fresh install of XP SP3, and I'm unable to disable the touchpad so she will only have mouse control of the computer.

I've gone into device manager and seen that the only things listed under mouse is the usb mouse that she wants to use, and an item for Microsoft PS2 device. The mouse can be disabled using the "usage" feature at the bottom of the screen. But when I switch to the PS2 listing, "usage" is ghosted out and I can't change that setting. So presently, both the mouse and the touchpad are functioning.

I'm not at her house right now, and can't run SIW etc. to find out the particular touchpad info. Until I can do that, does anyone have a suggestion for disabling only the touchpad? Thanks. Jim

Answer:Disable touchpad in XP

Laptops which don't automatically disable the trackpad when you plug a mouse in usually have a 'switch' in the form of the Fn key and one of the 'F' keys. Look for a key that has a representation of a mouse or a trackpad on it or even both. I've seen all three variants. And I can't tell you which 'F' key it will be on, this is one aspect of keyboards that is not standardised !

When you do find the relevant key, press and hold the 'Fn' key and press the relevant 'F' key at the same time, then let go. You should get some notification that the trackpad is disabled and it should stay that way until you press the same key combination to switch back at some future time.

Question: Disable Touchpad

I'm looking to disable the touchpad from within windows. I can disable in BIOS but would rather do it from within windows. Most drivers have an option in device manager to disable but the touchpad doesn't. Presently, Microsoft has installed it's official Windows 95 driver with it's updated version number, date and digital signature. Another option would be Synaptics driver but I'm not really into downloading and installing 14 mb's just to disable the touchpad. On the other hand, if I could get just the synaptics driver without the extra bloat, it might would work. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi

I have an Advent 7204 laptop running Vista Premium. It's one problem is the touchpad. Double tapping the touchpad is the same as clicking one of the mouse buttons which is infuriating as it happens frequently when I don't want it to whilst typing!!!

I'd like to disable this feature but cannot find any option for it (I can't even seem to disable the touchpad entirely and use a mouse instead?!?!). None of the Fn buttons seem to do it and there is nothing in my system tray.

Anyone ideas greatly appreciated...!

I take it that you are referring to a laptop or a notebook. Check your user manual for details on how to enable/disable the touchpad. As you have not provided any details on your machine (manufacturer, model number), I cannot help you any further as the method used varies. If you reply with the necessary details, I should be able locate some instructions for you.

Incidentally, if you scroll to the very bottom of the page you wil find a section 'Similar Threads'. You might like to check these out to see if they are of any help.

No matter how many times I double-clicked the little dot on the top-left corner of my touchpad, the light would not come on, and I could not disable the stupid touchpad. To fix this, I downloaded the newest version of the touchpad driver from HP.com for my laptop. After installing the driver, my computer rebooted, and then I was finally able to double-click the little dot on the top-left corner of my touchpad, and it was disabled!  So now the cursor no longer jumps around all over the page as I am typing (b/c my hand barely touches the touchpad).  YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I hope this helps anyone else going through this struggle. It took me several hours to figure this out today.  Amy

Question: Disable touchpad

Just got a new HP Pavilion Notebook. I didn't like using the touchpad, so I plugged in a mouse. Then, I went to the Control Panel and TRIED to disable the touchpad. The mouse works great, but the touchpad keeps enabling itself again. It really gets ugly when I'm using the mouse and stop to type something in and the weight of my hands causes the screen zoom to adjust and jump.
Nasty... Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad until I really want to use it? Thanks.

Answer:Disable touchpad

Have a look at this HP Forum thread: How to Disable Touchpad - HP Support Forum

Coincidentally, I had exactly the same problem with my Sony Vaio laptop - disabling the pointing device and using a wireless mouse instead does for me.

Question: disable touchpad?

PLEASE can someone tell me in words of one syllable how to disable the touchpad on my Toshiba L450D without taking it apart and disconnecting it? I installed a wireless Microsoft mouse (superb) and now cannot get past the intellipoint mouse properties in order to disable the touchpad. The cursor flying all over place drives me NUTS. But what's the point of having a flexible portable laptop if I have to constantly take a wireless mouse everywhere? NO, FnF9 does not work either despite being labelled as being able to do so.

Answer:disable touchpad?

Hello Ian Rigby. Welcome to the Forum.

Normally that is quite easy:

Right-click on Synaptics Pointing Device icon on the Taskbar > pointing device properties > device settings tab > disable synaptics touchpad > apply > ok

If you do not have the Synaptics icon available then search for Synaptics from the Start search box.

I have been trying to disable my touchpad...I never use it.  I have uninstalled Synaptics device multiple times...it is currently not installed.  I went to settings and went to "mouse and touchpad" and under "further options" I used to have something that at least temporarily stopped it...now that setting isn't available.  I read somewhere that holding the touchpad in the upper left corner for a few seconds would disable it...nope, didn't work.  I have tried various things I have read on internet, and nothing works. I am now hating using this computer...HELP please!!!

I've got the HP Pavilion dm3 1020ed.

It has a button to disable and enable my touchpad. Unfornately this won't work...

How can I create an other shortcut to disable / enable my touchpad? (or fix this button)

Thank you!

Answer:Disable touchpad

What touchpad software do you have installed? In Synaptics or Alps, you should be able to click on the driver icon in the system tray or on mouse settings in control panel, then go to the device settings tab and disable the touchpad from there.

You can probably disable it, but need to know which service runs for it. Open a command window and type the following at the prompt: sc queryex > c:\services.txt

then attach the services.txt file in your c:\ folder here.

....if a USB mouse is present?

My users have Dell Latitude D630s with Synaptics Touchpads. They run Windows 7 Pro x86, and I was wondering if there's a setting/option/app that will disable the touchpad if a USB mouse was connected to the system. Many moons ago, the touchpads would be disabled when a PS/2 mouse was connected, but I haven't come across that functionality with USB mice.

Answer:Disable Touchpad...

I'm assuming the option isn't being displayed under:

Control panel> Mouse > Device Settings tab > Check the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB device is attached"

It depends on what Synaptics driver software is installed for that option to appear though.

Answer:Disable touchpad with Windows 8.1

I searched for months trying to find a fix for this problem. This page provides the solution.
Just following the instructions above. You will download and install new touchpad driver which somehow got removed or disabled. After install and restart, go back to control panel and then mouse properties. The touchpad tab will be there after the download. Just turn it off and save and apply. Test the touchpad and it should be disabled. I hate microsoft and dell for putting me through this. The answer is so obvious but for some reason it throws people for a loop.

What Lenovo model do you have and operating system installed?  Example Ideapad 100, Lenovo Z50..... Windows 8..... Windows 10.

If your laptop has the ability to disable the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in, that option will be found in the settings / properties for the touchpad.  I have a couple of older Lenovo laptops using Windows 7 and 8 where the touchpad software / driver will allow disabling.  Where as my newer Lenovo laptops with Windows 10 does not have that feature.  The disabling is really dependent on the software / drivers for your model.

Hi DallasSteve and welcome to the community,

Should be able to.  That's how I have a U160 set.  Is there a touchpad icon in the taskbar?  Right click it and click properties. Then click device properties.  There should be a little box to check to disable touchpad when a mouse is plugged in.  Click apply then okay.

I have a Sony Viao VGN-SZ61WN/C. I couldn't stand Vista, especially Windows Mail, so i have "downgraded" to XP Home. All that is fine and I have all the relevant drivers-- I think! BUT, when I was using Vista, I was able to use an external mouse and disable the touchpad. Now however, I can't find any way of disabling it, resulting in text jumping all over the place whenever I accidentally brush it. I have asked Sony tech support and they have no answer. There is no button on the keyboard.
I have been into Device Manager and tried just uninstalling each of the pointing devices shown there in turn, to no avail.
2 devices are shown:
PS/2 Compatible Mouse
HID-compliant Mouse

If I uninstall the driver of the PS/2 Compatible mouse, the external mouse stops working.
If I uninstall the HID-compatible mouse, the same thing happens—the external mouse stops working. There is nothing there about a touchpad.
Problem is, this Viao had a link in Vista to Sony for configuring it. It is no longer there in XP.
Is there ANYTHING I can do, as I hate touchpads and want to use a mouse but this is driving me crazy, even if I am REALLY careful!
Help please—nice techy people!

Is there any other way to disable this annoying feature? My fingers are far to bulky and clumsy and it seems like the touchpad is really sensitive.

The touchpad is controlled by the mouse drivers. I'm not sure what the tapping activates but you may find something in Control Panel>Mouse options that would make it less sensitive.

I have a Lenovo G570 notebook that I love except for one little detail. I hate, loathe, detest, and just don't like touchpads and there is no way to permanently turn the stupid thing off on this machine. I can turn it off after booting by hitting FN/F6 but, of course, I never remember to do so until I mess up whatever I'm typing by dragging my thumb or hand over the idiot touch pad. I've tried the usual "solutions" without any luck (leastwise, not the good kind).

What would be nice if there was some kind of script that would run during boot up that would, essentially, "press" the FN/F6 combination. Can anyone help me with that?

Our organization recently invested in a large batch of 250 G4 notebooks. I'm wondering if there's a way to quickly enable/disable the touchpad, modify something in our group policy, or distribute a driver update or something to allow for this option. Due to the environment many of our staff are working in (frequently out in the community or even operating off of mobile hotspots in their parked vehicle), many users don't use a mouse, but would like the option to turn the touchpad off while typing to avoid misplacing the cursor. Naturally, they'll need the ability to easily turn the touchpad back on without the use of a mouse in this case. As a result, I don't see navigating to the mouse settings to disable the touchpad as being a viable option, as they wouldn't have the ability to turn it back on when they were done typing. I'm used to seeing a Fn + F key option to disable the touchpad, but this doesn't seem to be available on this model. Is there a solution that would result in functionality with that level of simplicity? If not, what other options are there?

I cannot disable the mouse touchpad. I unclick "enable" and click "apply" on the UltraNav tab. The touchpad still works, even after a reboot, and I see that the mouse touchpad shows enabled.  What can I do? Thank-you, Philip

I've tried most everything (device manager, control panel mouse, touchpad software...), yet I still can't disable the touchpad on my new EliteBook 820. It's crazy sensitive, and makes typing a basic sentence nearly impossible unless I slow down to a crawl. Surely HP has a means for controlling this piece of hardware -- what is it?

Answer:How can I disable my EliteBook 820's touchpad

On the upper left corner of the touchpad there is a small rectangle. double tap it quickly to disable the touchpad. It will turn an amber color when the touchpad is disabled.

I have an HP 550 with Win XP SP3. I need to disable the touchpad on it.I've tried double clicking on the top left hand corner of the pad, pressing the left hand corner for several seconds and Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Mice and other pointing devices. I have no touchpad showing anywhere under any of the logical (or even illogical device management categories, including Mice, Human Interface Devices, System Devices, Keyboards or even USB devices and Computer. Nothing, zero, zip. I've tried disabling the mouse via Device Manager per some instructions and then had to use the touchpad to renable the USB mouse. I have the updated HP drivers for this machine installed. I really need to get this disabled, because I'm only using a mouse and the touchpad is actually a serious liability.I've also Googled until I'm blue in the face and searched the HP forums extensively.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
