Spectre x360 stylus

Question: Spectre x360 stylus

I have an HP Spectre x360 Convertible with Product Number K8P19LA#ABM. I want to use it as a drawing and sketching tool. I have read several reviews from other x360 owners and decided that my best option was to buy a Dell Active Pen PN556W to use. Similar qualities as the HP Active Pen (which are not sold on my country) but with better reviews. I have had no opportunity to use my pen, as it is not recognized in any way by the screen.I have also installed the Anniversary edition of Windows 10 with better Pen Support and it still doesn't recognizes my pen. My configuration is:Windows 10 ProPen and Touch Support with 10 Touch Points

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Spectre x360 stylus

Hi, Is Dell stylus support HP machines mentioned on its specs ? You are asking HP to support another vendor's product here. From my view: No HP won't support other vendor's products unless HP does not have equivalent products.Dell may be very happy for HP (or other competitors) to support its products, it will sell more and laughing to the bank.Regards.

I have the Spectre model X7V20UA#ABA and based on this answer bought an HP Active Pen.  I cannot get teh machine to acknowledge the pen in any way. I've followed what instructions I could find (basically have the pen near the computer when you turn the computer off and then back on) and it will nto use it in One Note.  Is this an incompatible device?

Hi, just ordered the Spectre x360 after a lot of googling around about it's active pen support.  I haven't been able to find the official "HP Active Stylus" in my country (Norway), which I've read quite a bit of negativity about anyways, however I found one named "HP Pro Tablet Active Pen" (K8P73AA) which according to a reply by an HP employee in an older thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Spectre-x360-Active-Pen-Stylus-C...) is supposedly supported by the Synpatics digitizer in the x360. The official documentation however, has no mention of this. I've also read an overwhelming amount of feedback that a recent firmware update disabled the support for the Dell stylus which many apparently found success in, so this is another reason I am uncertain. Could this update have disabled the support for the other HP styluses as well? Before i go out and spend a lot of money on this pen I was wondering whether someone has tried the HP Pro Tablet Active Pen themselves on the x360, or whether any HP employee could confirm this compatibility. Again, this is the black stylus (K8P73AA) (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/tablets/product-detail.html?oid=7530365) im looking at, not the silver/white one found here: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-active-penThe lack of synaptics-supported styluses (and documentation thereof) was almost a real deal-breaker for me since im going... I received my HP Spectre x360 - 13t-4200 CTO one week ago as well as a new HP Active Stylus.  I purchased both directly from HP.  I have tried four times with tech support to help me get the stylus to work.  Despite being assured that the stylus in indeed compatible with this laptop, they have not gotten it to work. The only solution they have come up with is to reset the computer to factory settings wiping out everything I have spent hours doing to migrate to this new laptop.  In asking them what doing the reset will resolve, they do not know, but that is the fallback answer.  I have received so much conflicting and silly information from tech support staff who actually are not famililar at all with the problem.  They have updated the Intel video drivers and attempted to install firmware for the 15" Spectre but still no success. Does anybody know the steps to getting the stylus setup? Thanks very much.

Hello I am having alot of trouble finding good advice and a list of compatible devices for my X360. After reading alot of forum posts I purchased the Dell Active Pen PN556w which was said to work with the laptop and be excellent. I have bought it and it does not work.  I am unsure if this is a drivers issue, hardware issue or what. i Suspect that many of the reviews are for the G1 which has a different hardware componeant. HP have replaced the screen on the laptop which they reported as faulty but I have tried a bamboo and a surface pen on it and neither of them work.  I bought this exclusively for use with one not and meetings and as it stands it is a lovely laptop except for this crucial point. if the purchased pen does not work, then what pens will? Any and all help given will be appreciated.

If you have one of the new 2017 HP Spectre x360 with the stylus, either model number 13-AC013DX or 13-AC023DX or 15-BL012DX.....Have you experienced any battery drain when the device turned OFF completely? This was a known issue for the 2015 Spectre x360 and the late 2016 Spectre x360. It would drain about 1% every 2 hours when turned OFF. I had a late 2016 Spectre x360 that had that problem and I returned it because of that problem. There is a lot of topics about other people having the same problem. But its only for the 2015 and 2016 Spectre x360 models. I have not seen any one with a 2017 stylus model report it on here yet. So I wanted to check if anyone that has 1 of these experienced this?

Dear HP support / communityI entered university a while ago and for several reasons, purchased a HP spectre x360 13-4290nz. Possibly the most important one being able to take notes digitally (typing would lessen the learning effect). Therefore I am very dependent on stylus support. Now, I wasn't able to find evidence which confirms that pens will not work with my model (except for my experiences of course). I have tried various styli (like the active pen for Windows surface or the Dell active Pen, which works fine with other spectre models (as stated in some forums). The PC Tablet Settings show a "Limited Touch Support" for this convertible and according to the HP assistant, my PC is fully updated. The piece that is missing here - as far as I was able to understand the conversations in several forums / threads - is the firmware, which recognizes pens. Some days ago (I think around Nov. 26, 2016), I saw that some other models of the newest HP series got a firmware update on their support page and some users wrote, that this fixed the problem and they were able to use the pen from this point out. I have checked the support page for my model and wasn't able to find a firmware update or something in this direction at all (http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Spectre-13-4200-x360-Convertible-PC/10862116/mode...).Now my main questions would be if the firmware is indeed the problem and if there will be a update that will enable sytlus support in the future or if there ar... Hi! I have the new HP Spectre x360 AC-series that comes bundled with a pen. I've been using it for about a month and I've been satisifed with the pen performance, but I JUST NOW realized that the pen tip is REPLACEABLE! That's a "wow" moment to me; I never knew the tip could be removed. One minor thing I noticed when I first got the pen was that the stylus tip is hard plastic, which doesn't give a ton of friction with the screen. It's not a dealbreaker, but I owned a Surface Pro 4 in the past and I really dig the additional friction of the Surface Pen to the screen with its soft nib. I don't think shelling out $50 for the Surface Pen was worth it though, but instead, are there replacement tips available for the bundled Spectre x360 pen? Or, can someone tell me if the $10 pack of Surface Pen replacement tips is compatible with the Spectre pen? Thanks a lot!

Hello, I just bought a Targus stylus (http://targus.com/us/stylus-for-tablets-and-smartphones-black-amm01tbus) to use with my HP Spectre x360. Unfortunately it doesn't work very well with the touchscreen; I have to press it so hard that the screen wobbles back and forth. I find this strange because it is very sensitive when I use my finger; a light touch is enough. Is there a setting where I can remedy this? I tried Calibrate, but it seemed to only calibrate for location, not sensitivity. Or, would anyone recommend a specific stylus other than the HP Active Stylus? I just want a simple, non-battery-operated stylus to use to draw and take notes without smudging my screen with fingerprints. Thank you,Chuck

I am having a same issue and still discussing with a HP Customer Support. My warranty will expire in 3 mo and I really need to resolve this issue.I purchased my Spectre, x360 13.3 in OLED model in June, 2017. I also purchased HP Active Pen (the product name is actually HP Active Stylus which is Synaptics compatible. HP compatible table has a wrong picture. Check product manual for each HP Active pen). I does not work at all. I could not send my PC to HP Cust Support because this PC was for my daughter and she needed it while school was on going. I finally sent this PC to HP Customer Support about a month ago. They changed display and main board. Now I need to test this again, which means I have to re-purchase the HP Active Stylus (Synaptics one) for testing. Then I found this posting. If any of HP Active Stylus won't work with my x360 w/OLED display, then I am thinking about filing a complaint to FTC for a false advertisement.

I recently bought the 2016 version of the HP Spectre x360, and I'm trying to look for an active stylus to use for it, specifically for the palm rejection. My problem is that I've been finding very conflicting information on its compatibility. Some say that it is compatible with only the HP Active Stylus, others say that a Dell stylus works, and others say that the stylus compatibility was removed completely in the 2016 model. (To make it even more confusing, there is even a reddit page claiming the problem only comes from a faulty firmware installer.) Tl;dr: What active styluses are compatible with the 2016 model of the HP Spectre x360? (Or has that functionality been removed completely?) Thanks so much, any replies are greatly appreciated

Hey all! I just bought a brand new HP Spectre x360 13-t touch OLED display in ash silver (specifically the P3A84AV) with 8GB RAM and 256 solid state drive. 6th gen intel i7 running Windows 10. Just after purchasing this I came across a forum posted back in February that discussed the fact that the Spectre computers say they are stylus compatible, but really they do not come with the correct software or firmware (I can't recall which) needed to respond to a stylus. In fact, you must uninstall something and then install a different firmware in order to add the compatibility. My question is: Is this still the case with the new Spectres, or has HP fixed this? If it arrives and is not compatible, does anyone know the steps needed to add compatibility? Stylus compatibility was a HUGE selling point for me here... Thanks much for all your help!

With the spectre the HP stylus goes from working  to not working. Have to constantly shake it, unscrew the cap and then re tghten. My other tricks are to close it of one mate and then reopen or completely restart the computer. Been over a year year and I butt he computer because the the stylus capability. It seems to me there is some stating that puts the stylus or the tablet n sleep mode.  Note issue occurs not only in one note but also when on desk top point at icons. Yes I am using the HP approved stylus. Also have the Dell stylus from last year that experiences the same issue.  What at is the fix to this problem. Answer:Does HP Spectre x360-w053nr support stylus pen ?

If you mean the 2016 model with thin side bezels (that didn't come with a pen), no, there is no hardware support for any kind of active pen. If you have a the older 2015 model with thicker bezels, then yes, it has a (pretty horrible IMO) Synaptics digitizer, and you can purchase a pen from HP. Most of the customer reps I spoke to couldn't give me a definitive answer, so this knowledge is my personal research by testing the laptop out myself. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hello, I've looked up how to get a stylus/pen to work now on the horrendous touch screen software for the newer x360s. Or will it be incompatible? But more importantly, CAN HP PLEASE RELEASE A TOUCHSCREEN FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR THE 4193NR AND ALL OTHER SPECTRE MODELS? Like so many posters here, I am now a among the ranks of those complainants that active pen Stylus will NOT work with this model.  HP.  Is there a simple answer, a a clear declarative sentence, for this reported problem by many, many buyers? Frustrating things more is a call to tech support. 1st call:. " I can confirm no pen Stylus will work with your model.". Then, "Checking further literature, only three models of touchscreen HP computers are compatible with a stylus". Next call to tech support on a hunch no two answers will be same.  This time, "Oh, yes.  I can confirm all touchscreen models are compatible with pen sylus". Me:. Are you sure.  Second tech: "Yes, I assure you".  Me: "Can you explain why the first tech stated none are compatible then found documentation that only three were and mine was not one of them?" Answer:. "No, don't worry.  It is compatible".  Me: "When "Pen and Touch menu is accessed in control panel, only provision shosing as active is 'touch', not pen.  Does this mean drivers are needed or not activated unless stylus contacts the screen".  Answer, "Yes". Me: "Which is it".  Answer:. "Both".  "Let me transfer you to pre-sales which will have more details on your particular model".  Pre-sales:. "Why are you calling pre-sales", in father-to-idiot" lecture. Me:. Hello, I just got this computer as a gift. Its intended use is for school. The dual tablet/laptop nature of the product seemed like it would be perfect for school/note taking. I am looking to use a stylus or 'active pen' of some sort for precise note taking (e.g., on one-note). From what I have seen there seems to be no consensus online about whether or not this model is compatible with the active pen. The sales rep who sold this computer said it was compatible but everything I see online suggests otherwise. Many say that the 2016 version is no longer supporting this function--or that to make it work, you must "extract the .bit file," I wouldn't know how to go about doing that. This function is the primary reason for getting this laptop, and I may have to return it if the function is not available. Before I buy any product, I would like a definitive answer. Do these types of stylus's work with this specific product?  If yes, which product(s) should I look into getting that are promised to work? If not, are there any *specific* steps I need to take to make an active stylus work?  I look forward to hearing a response from the community. I will be very dissapoited if I am told a specific pen works, and I purchace it and it does not work. I would prefer not to have to return this laptop, and I would prefer it not be to late for me to do so if I recieve a run-around. Thanks,Happy Holidays.

Additional product info:HP Spectre x360 - 13-4129na (ENERGY STAR)Product X5X71EA#ABU Hi, I purchased the Spectre x360  convertible laptop in September 2016. I am now looking to buy a active pen or stylus which is compatible with my particular model. After looking around on various forums and stores, it seems that there are no active pens which are compatible for my model (my model number is never on the list of compatible devices). Does this mean that my model is not compatible with an active pen/stylus? Are there any active pens which may work and can be sourced from a UK based store? Thanks

Hello, I've been using the Dell Active Stylus (750-AAGN) with my HP Spectre x360 for the past few months and it had been working great.  Recently, the stylus stopped working, despite having new batteries in.  I changed the batteries and still it did not work.  It was the most bizzare thing, as it literally just cut out while I was writing and did not show any signs that it was defective beforehand. On top of that, I checked my laptop with an old Active Stylus that my laptop had always been able to recognize, but could not write with it because of a faulty tip on it, and my laptop did not recognize that pen as well.  This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with my laptop (hopefully I am wrong about that). My laptop is fully updated and I checked for driver updates on the HP page for my laptop pertaining to stylus, but could not find something.  PLZ HELP.

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Answer:HP Spectre x360 vs HP Envy x360

Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare.  For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. Regards.

Hi, I just purchased the x360 13-u108na convertible notebook and I was interested in buying a stylus to do some drawing/sketching, however I cannot find any information on supported devices for this model. I have also heard that the HP Active Pens do not work on the Kaby Lake models (which this is as it's a 7th Gen i3 processor) so does that mean I won't be able to use a stylus for this model and should I return for the older or a Dell 2in1? Thanks

Hi, I have struggled with this topic since the day I received my laptop.  But last night, on TV I saw a commercial for HP's Spectre 360 and the whole commercial was about using an active stylus.   I grew increasingly furious.  I have been told (after buying the laptop from HP) that my model does not support using a stylus--although when I bought it I was told that it was compatible. Is there any chance that a fix will ever be provided?  I have the HP Spectre x360 - 13t-4200 CTO Thanks, Brett

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. I contacted HP support and I must admit that they were polite, friendly and had my return materials sent very quickly.  My first bad sign involving the shipping process was the fact tha... Read more

HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing. It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Question: HP Spectre x360

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

I'm looking for a 13-inch laptop for myself and have narrowed it down to these two models. Need your help in choosing :)
I'm thinking about such config for both: i7-7560U + Iris Plus Graphics 640 + 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD. As for the screen, I'm still on the fence about it, not sure if I want the best possible res (QHD for Dell, 4K for HP) or the best battery life by going FullHD. Can you guys share your battery life experience with the best screens for these? I'm going to use it primarily for browsing / office work / coding (VS and VS Code) / light photo editing (Lightroom, Photoshop)
For the x360, I like Windows Hello camera (and webcam at the top ) and build quality. And it's a bit cheaper.
For the XPS 13, it's battery life and better port selection
Let me know what you think

Question: HP Spectre x360

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

Question: HP Spectre x360

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Answer:HP Spectre x360

I have the same problem but in the front, in the back of the touchpad... really annoying. looks like the lid doesn't have nothing to lay on and the aluminium is very thin. poor quality for such expensive machine.

So I've been researching for a few months now but have still to no avail found a viable solution/answer anywhere I looked. I have been looking for a stylus to use with my laptop which is a 2-in-1 so I figured it should be able to use one. But if possibly I would really love it to be pressure sensistive so I can draw in Photoshop with ease. It doesn't seem that any pen has been actually tested on this device though: all the Wacom ones haven't been tested, some say the HP Active Stylus may work but everyone commenting have the Hp Spectre so I would like to have a definitive answer if someone wouldn't mind helping.

Two days ago, I bought at Best Buy a Surface stylus and found out that it comes with battery and need to setup HP Stream x360 Bluetooth in order to have it work.

The stylus pen blinks when powered on. Setup of HP Stream Bluetooth took some time, then finally I was able to get a message that Bluetooth was able to recognize device.

At Best Buy, the staff said it works with Microsoft OneNote. I never used OneNote. It came bundled with Microsoft Office. I tested it out Surfce Laptop - Surface Stylus on OneNote and it works--fine lines, soft to the touch, bold lines also...

What else could it be, if HP Stream x360 is not able to detect a stylus pen?

-Damaged stylus pen
-Software for the stylus
-What the distance for Bluetooth

I also bought a stylus thinking that it's just a mouse touch pad. The one with an eraser. The eraser works, but I need to do some fine pen work and not blotches or when you used an empty air can to spray paint look.

It;s frustrating to find all these things and still have no stylus to use. If I am able to get the Surface Stylus to work, I wonder how long can I work until the battery goes dead.

I am currently using a mouse with Infrared, a USB connector and it's cordless for three years now.
