I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am not sure how you think we can help without knowing the model or product number. Once we have that we can find the manual which will show exactly how to get to it and what parts you will need. Without it, no way to know.

i am working on an inspiron n7110 that was dropped. now, the batter doesn't charge and the dvd player is not working. when you put a cd on, the icon spins, but nothing happens. if you click on it, it says insert a cd. when it boots, a window pops up and it says that it cannot identify the charger and the battery is not being charged.

the only thing i know about it is a friend said it was dropped, and there is a chip in the cover to the left of the mouse, on the part that comes off so the motherboard is accessible. i had the whole thing completely apart and could find no physical damage at all, reseated all the connections, inspected for signs of damage and found nothing. i thought it may be software related, so i backed everything up and reloaded the os using the factory image and it did nothing except reset the computer. my guess would be motherboard damage that is invisible, but i would hate to advise the customer to pay $200 for a new one and it didn't fix it. anyone have any other ideas or troubleshooting steps i can use to narrow it down further? not sure if it matters, but it is windows 7 home premium, factory image.

Answer:Solved: laptop not charging and dvd not playing after being dropped

Dell chargers often have a central 3rd connector that 'tells' the laptop it's a genuine Dell charger so if it's the charger that came with the laptop I would check that it's not bent or broken off.

Could also be the power socket that got damaged and that's where the bad connection is. Some have a separate power board you can change, not sure about that model though.

The DVD drive could have been damaged in the fall, easiest thing to do is try a known working one, they are usually the same apart from the faceplate which doesn't matter for a test and maybe an adapter on the internal connector you would have to swap over.

EDIT : it seems the power connector on the laptop has a lead that goes to a motherboard connector so it should be easy to replace if necessary. It's on P.112 of the Service manual - download link :- ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod...p/inspiron-17r-n7110_Service Manual_en-us.pdf

Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. Pent 4..

HELP!!!

Answer:CPU runs at 100% when charging laptop battery, when not charging its fine. HELP!!!

Hi, I'm having problems charging my gateway laptop unless I wiggle the charging pin and power brick a certain way. I have tried replacing the charger and battery. It doesn't help. Also If I run on straight AC with no battery the laptop will shut off if it moves due to the contact problem. Does any one know why this happening?

Thanks for the Help.

Also its a gateway t-6859 laptop.

Answer:Laptop has problems with charging unless I wiggle the charging pin.

how old is the laptop sounds like your ac in port has de-soldered from the psu part of the motherboard. its the most common thing to break on laptops since they get a lot of stress from the cables pulling on them or they are built cheap either way. is is it still in warranty?

I found out yesterday morning that for some reason, the battery on my laptop isn't charging. I'm staying at my mother's house for the weekend and since then the problem has occured. At home, it always charged properly and never gave me any problems.  Could I need a new battery? I've tried going to Device Manager and uninstalling and re-installing drivers and the whole 9 yards, yet the problem still persists. Thank you in advance

Hi, My HP 15-AC035TX (warranty was over by Oct 2016), when plugged in - till 30 - 40% it's getting charged without any issues. Then it's charging & not charging intermittently. It's getting charged for 1 min then not getting charged for few seconds.  If i run the laptop without batterires, no issues. Laptop is running smoothly without any disconnection.  I tried with one of my friends charger and the same thing happens. So i guess the problem is not with the charger.  I've tried everything mentioned in this two threads. Nothing worked1) http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/HP-G62-Intermittent-charging-pro...2) http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/not-charging-starts-then-stops/... As far as discharge is concerned, battery is holding the charge as usual (say it it gets charged for 45%, it will run for 2.5 hours) Any suggestions ? Battery test report:

The laptop I am using is an ASUS, model K53S. The chargers port broke before and I had to get it replaced. I am not sure what went wrong with it. The same issues I was having before have begun again; the computer wont charge unless I fiddle with the wire for a long time and when it does charge the metal piece that goes into the port gets crazy hot. In fact, it got so hot that the plastic on the inside of the metal has started to warp and melt. The computer will still charge but it no longer seems safe to continue doing so. I don't want to keep dumping money in this thing if its going to keep breaking; the last fix was only a few months ago. Maybe the last people did not fix it correctly but I am uncertain. Ideas what is wrong with this port and would it be better to just put this computer out of its misery and get a new one? That is I do not want to keep investing in it. It is an ok computer but not that great.

Answer:Charging port is broke, keeps breaking, help plz.

It either wasn't fixed right, or the charger is also damaged and needs to be replaced, or it's taking excessive physical stress.

Most places don't charge too much for fixing DC jacks, it's way cheaper than a new laptop.

Hello.
My Cricket Wireless Nokia Lumina 1320 won't charge. The port is damaged and I was looking for a Charging Pad as an alternative, but I read this phone is not compatible with Qi. The guy at the Cricket store told me to find some place that will solder the pins back in and it will probably cost me around $80, but that does not always work. Or buy a new phone for $249. Cricket Customer Service said they only repair manufacturer's defects and to buy a new phone. I just got this phone 6 months ago and now it is dead to me.
Any suggestions?
I still like this phone and just don't know how to charge it.
Thank you.

Hi there. I bought my laptop Aspire V 13 V3-371-558L not even 2 months ago, and sadly yesterday I accidentally dropped it on the floor and the screen broke. But only inside, the laptop screen case is just slightly dented but the image on the screen now is all white and "scratched" on the area where is dented. So basically I need to send it to repair so I would like to know if this has happened to somebody else or If anyone have any information that might help, for example how the repair process will take place. Thank you so much for your help.

So lately I've been having an issue with my laptop.  The charger is plugged in but the computer doesn't seem to recognize it unless I shift the laptop to a certain position.  This seems to have little to do with the position of the AC plug in the DC port at all as it's not the same positions that will actually get the computer to recognize the charger is plugged in. I don't think this has anything to do with the battery itself as removing the battery does not make the connection more consistent.  The computer will still not recognize the AC adapter is plugged in.  I had the same problem with my old laptop, a V570. It will also briefly lose connection and restore it before my display can process it.  I know this by the CPU throttle in the BIOS (which I can't access to turn off because of the version of BIOS used) will randomly slow my computer down and won't restore to full speed when the charger is making connection again. What just happened lately which is making me wonder about this more is that my laptop stopped recognizing the charger as being plugged in in the tray icon but the charger light on my laptop started flashing orange.  The blue power light was also flashing. Sometimes when I restart my computer to reset the CPU throttle, I will get a pop-up message from the Battery Management Software stating, "Adapter has limited support: performance will be affected ..." Full specs available on the purchase page here. &n... Hi, So out of the blue my Yoga 13 seized up while sitting at the start menu in Windows 8.1. I had to kill the local svc host which had accumulated over 2GB of ram... just so I could shutdown the machine,  but when I shutdown some craziness started. The power wouldn't turn off even after 20 minutes. I held it down forever and finally it did turn off (maybe the shutdown was incredibly prolonged). I did also flash the bios after this craziness, to the one on the suggested download site (version 55).  At any rate, that's when the problems really started: I got the plugged in not charging issue in windowsThe battery charging light no longer turns on when plugged in (though the battery is charging). The novo button doesn't work.Unauthorized battery messagePower button wasn't responsive when off. I have a G560 , when battery is depleted and needs a charge . If I plug my AC adapter in my battery icon shows I have the AC power but the icon shows that it is charging for 17 seconds and then quits showing that it is charging. If I unplug the power supply and then plug it in again. The same 20 seconds thing. I can get the battery to completely recharge all the way up if I plug and unplug. I am wondering if it is a defective voltage regulator problem? I do not want to replace the battery if the battery is not bad. It is just out of warranty by 3 monthes. This just started happening . Thanks and God Bless : )

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

I recently had my Qosmio F55-Q502 repaired by Toshiba.
Two issues were addressed and one is fixed.

However, the second was attempted to be resolved unsuccessfully.

When I attempt to play multi-media games such as Call of Duty IV, even if the system is fully charged, within minutes the system will start to blink the "backlights" and then when I see the charging icon, it says "Plugged in, Not Charging."

This really concerns me as I have read online many similar issues, but none of the solutions seems to work.
To have to restart the machine everytime this happens and your in the middle of a game, really stinks!
I even had it happening with SimCity4 which is an ancient game.

Any good suggestions on this?
They did replace the battery when it was sent in which seems to be what most people say needs to be done.

Answer:Qosmio F55-Q502 - charging icon says: Plugged in, Not Charging

Hello

If your Qosmio notebook was in repair I think you should not discuss about any issue on forums but make a pressure on service and clarify every single problem with your notebook.
Please do this because the warranty is still valid and now is the time to clarify everything.

I am not hardware specialist but it sound to me as some power supply electronic issue but I cannot say for sure. Talk with service. Try to clarify this with them. Be nice, be cool and everything will be ok.

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help
I hope you can ... Read more

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi, My husband purchased an Ideapad Yoga 11S last year. Last month, the power cord stopped charging. I took the system into a repair shop, and they told me that the charger wasn't registering any power activity, and that I'd need to buy a new one. I ordered a new one... one month later, it too has stopped charging the computer! I have NO IDEA why? My son uses this for school, and he can't access any of his work, nor can he participate in classwork that requires the computer. I researched solutions, and found that I should unplug the unit and take out the battery --- YEAH RIGHT... a special screw driver is needed to do that, so we can't get the screws out without stripping them. I am VERY frustrated because the computer is no longer covered under warranty... is the new charger that I purchased covered? Is there something else that I can do? Any help in this matter is extremely appreciated. S_Reynolds

Hi, I upgraded my Sony Vaio to Windows 10. Since the upgrade, battery icon showing "Plugged in, Charging" but not actually charging. Always it is in 3% and when unplug the power, system shutdowns.

Answer:Sony Vaio - shows charging, but not charging the battery?

From: Recovery and Troubleshooting Guide
Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
When you intend to run your VAIO computer on battery power, the battery pack may have run out of power. Connect the computer to a power outlet. For details, refer to Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
If you did not previously follow the standard procedure to turn off your VAIO computer, the power controller may be suspended due to a program error.
Do as follow:
- On the models with a built-in battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, push and hold the battery off button for at least three seconds with a thin, straight object (such as a paper clip), and leave the computer for at least
five minutes. Then, plug the AC adapter and turn on the computer once again. For the location of the battery off button, refer to Locating Parts and Controls in the Startup Guide.
- On the models with a removable battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, remove the battery pack, and leave the computer for at least five minutes. Then, reinstall the battery pack and turn on the computer once again.
? If the charge indictor is blinking or the ? power button does not work, a battery error may have occurred or the battery pack may not be detected.

Hi there, new on the forums. I've just bought my first ThinkPad and can't tell if the charging is complete while the laptop is off. I charge the laptop mostly when it's off but the only chargin indication I can see is a constant green LED near the charging port. I would have expected it to be red during charge and turn green when charging reaches 100%. Are all E320s like this? A very annoying problem

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E320 Charging LED; how can you tell if its charging complete?

It seems that Lenovo engineers decided that Edge users don't need as many indicator lights as other models have.  In my E420 there are only 2: AC power adapter connected (green light next to power connector) and On/Off/Sleep status (red light dot in ThinkPad logo). That's it!  If you want to know the battery status you have to open Windows.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Thank you

Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

Answer:XPS 12 9Q23 Power Charging Disabled / Plugged in, NOT CHARGING

Hi DAEMONROD.
Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

For some time have received the error message regarding under power smart adaptor with newer replacement HP adaptor matching original.  Battery icon lists % charge & "not charging".  Battery tests good in HP Support Assistant battery check.  Power adaptor will power my older Pavillion laptop but not  the Envy with or without battery installed.  Battery charging LED does not light.  Have tried re-calibration by deleting Microsoft devices in Device Manager.  Envy will operate with and without battery while using Dell power adaptor. Computer repair shop says Smart adaptor produces 0 voltage (even though it powers Pavillion) and I need a new battery (even though diagnostic test indicates good). Help!!!

For some reason my laptop once stopped charging, I tried a few different outlets at a library and non of them made the laptop start charging again (charging = organge light glowing). I got home, and my outlets there didn't work either. THen after a while I tried an outlet again, and it worked. Then this problem occured one more time (then I fixed it somehow). And the last time it occured  I haven't been able to fix it. Trust me I've tried almost everything, I tried turnign it off taking the battery out and holding the powere button then trying to charge it, I tried waiting for hours, but  have not tried a new charger.  So here is the problem I see: I plug in the charger, and the charging LED does not glow, instead it randomly (it seems random) blinks.  I once left my laptop to do that for hours, and it still didn't even charge. Also I can't turn on my laptop without the battery (not sure if thats even possible, as I have not heard it is possible).  I'm going to send it back to Costco soon, but before I do, please help me figure out how to fix it, thanks

My laptop suddenly stopped charging since yesterday. It is hovering around the 5-7% range since yesterday and continues to say that it is charging, when in actuality it is not. I have tried to reset the laptop, as well as uninstall and install the ACPI drivers, but nothing seems to work. It has only been a month since I got this laptop.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Answer:Y510P "plugged in, charging" but battery is not charging

hi kanyewest,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.
     - Link to picture

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Answer:T410 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,
Shashi

I'm coming through with this issue because I saw so many people (including dell tech support) struggling with this issue before.
The issue is as follows: you connect your laptop to the charger, the charging light goes on, windows says "charging", even the BIOS says charging, and yet, the battery's voltage just keeps going down no matter what you do about it..
Dell tech support usually try to guide you to reset the BIOS battery by removing the main battery and press the power button. but it's not the case here.
The solution I found was a very strange one, changing the RAM slot seemed to solve the issue completely.
Just taking the RAM card from one slot to the other. on one slot it's stopping your laptop from charging, on the other everything is good.
I honestly don't know why that is (and I'm a PC technician myself),  considering the laptop ships with two perfectly good RAM slots, but I thought the solution needs to be out there.
I'm hoping I managed to help some of you, (Even with my less then perfect English) Sapir.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Hey,

I just got my computer back from having the motherboard switched out because of another problem, but now my battery will not charge. The light is on and it says it is charging, but it isn't. Should I attempt a gauge reset or something else?

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.
Thanks!

Answer:Says plugged in and charging, but is not charging. Just got motherboard fixed.

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

Hi, I have an X220 Tablet that's about 3 and a half years old -- so unfortunately just out of warranty -- and I'm having battery/charging problems. A few months ago the original 6-cell battery that came with the laptop died: Power Manager reported it as dead and needing replacing. It had had 500-something cycles, so it seemed reasonable. I went ahead and bought a new 6-cell battery from Lenovo, the 67+, and then my system was fine again. But one day a few weeks ago this battery suddenly stopped charging. Power Manager reported that "The battery is in good condition", and it was reported as "Status: Charging", but it was not actually charging and was instead very slowly discharging its way to 0%. Something suspicious is perhaps that PM reported "Current: 0.00 A". I thought it might be the battery, so I got another one, but that has exactly the same issue -- now I have two batteries, each discharged completely and with no way to charge them. Charging doesn't happen regardless of whether the computer is on or off, or whether I'm in Windows (7) or Linux. I checked the AC adapter/charger with a multimeter and it is reporting 20V as it's supposed to, so I guess that's okay. Plus, the laptop runs fine on just the AC adapter, even if it's a little bit slower (which I gather is due to it being 65W rather than 90W). The only slightly unusual thing I can remember from the day charging stopped functioning is that I was using the 'always on' USB port to charge my ... Answer:Battery not charging despite being reported as good and as charging

It is hard for me to be certain without seeing it, and Sweden is a long way from San Francisco. The symptom point to a blown fuse or power transistor (mosfet). Either can cause your problem, and usually require motherboard replacement. If nothing was going on when the problem started, (no power failure, lightning storm, failure of power adapter, tripping over the cord) I would guess mosfet. Some shops can repair fuses, but they require fairly good soldering equipment. I have had much poorer luck fixing mosfets, because usually, more than one chip is bad. You might be able to find a motherboard for a reasonable price. I have one for sale on eBay for under $100, but international shipping is expensive and you might do better locally. The new replacement battery for my T40 is not charging at all. in spite of the fact that the T40 battery statistics state the battery is healthy , charging and behaving normally  (with currently 0 % charge, 8.64 voltage, 24 C temperature (not hot)).  The T40 works just fine when plugged into a wall outlet so the problem is not the A/C adapter.  The T40 device manager gives correct manufacturing date 2/09 and correct T40 plug in date of 4/09, serial number, etc.  the design voltage is 10.80 V so it knows what is there.  I am using windows XP prof... This battery is  6 cell..  The original battery was a 9 cell. The manufacturer contends this battery will work on any T40 and the manual indicates that either 6 cell or 9 cell can be used... The only abnormal indication so far is that when I asked  the Lenovo site to automatically identify the specs of my T40, it listed  a 9 cell battery instead of a 6 cell one.   Does that tell us anything about what might be wrong?  with respect to the suggestions on the regular lenovo site, I already did all  that I could do  including sending the first replacement battery back to the manufacturer who then sent a second one to me.  I couldn't upgrade the battery controller because that first required an upgrade of the Bios and I can't do the Bios upgrade without a fully charged battery.  Thanks very much for any help.

I have a Lenovo G580 laptop. I formatted my system and it was working good but slow before formatting. After formatting i got a status of 49% available(Plugged in, Not Charging). I shut down my system completely and removed the adaptar and found that the battery light is still glowing. I remove the battery and inserted. I still found the battery light is glowing. Then i started the system with adaptar checked status as (plugged in, charging) but the power percentage is not going up. I decided to drain the battery and then check, so i was working without the adaptar & the power drained normally in usual time. Then i plugged in to adaptar and Currently the status is "0% (Plugged in, Charging)"  but its not charging.   Please help.

hi Abhijeettiria,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Youre troubleshooting is correct and pointed out the battery.
One last thing you could try is to run the Battery gauge reset via the Lenovo Energy Management software,
If that still gave you the same problem I suggest having the battery Replaced via warranty claim or by purchasing a new battery.

Best regards

I have Toshiba satellite model C875?7304. The battery indicator on the desktop says that it's charging but the percentage is depleting. This is on a brand-new battery that came with 67% full and a new adapter. When the laptop is off the LED indicator in the front is lit like the battery is charging. However it is not. After leaving it plugged in for a few hours the percentage was the same as when I turned it off. Also the adapter wasn't warm at all. I've tried all Toshibas recommendations removing all power from the laptop and holding the power button down for 30 seconds to a minute. Also removing the battery for the bios and reinserting it. Still that hasn't worked. I removed the laptop battery and the laptop will not power on using AC power only. It's almost like the laptop is only using battery power and the adapter is not charging the battery or keeping the laptop on. Laptops only about a year old. Any suggestions anyone?

Answer:Toshiba satellite charging but not charging

As the laptop's only a year old the original battery should be fine and not need replacing. Also if it won't run from the AC power only something is wrong. Look for your receipt and if it's still under guarantee take the laptop back.

So I unboxed my Ideapad Y500 yesterday and it's working wonderfully...that is, everything except my battery. When it was running low at 10% battery life last night I decided to plug in the AC adapter, which, as is normal, caused the battery icon in the corner to read "10% available (plugged in, charging)". However, what's not normal is that when I turned the laptop off and left it to charge overnight, the battery indicator light at the front of the system was still orange/red, occasionally flashing. I turned on my system again to find that my battery life hadn't budged at all despite recognizing that the adapter was plugged in and charging. I know other people have asked about something like this, though most of them say their battery icon reads "plugged in, not charging", so I'm not sure how to solve it. Any help would be appreciated!

Lately my 910 has not been charging consistently. I'm at 46% battery and the charging light keeps flickering on and off as if my charger is bad. Tried my backup charger and same issue - and I don't think my port is bad because wiggling it doesn't have any effect.  When I toggled conservation mode recently it temporarily fixed the issue so I assume it's software. Anyone else having this issue?

Also - this isn't normal behavior. The light isn't blinking in a regular pattern and my battery is just going down.  When the computer is powered off it still doesn't charge.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Thus:

How old is it? Most likely the battery if you use it a lot on battery power, not plugged in.

My dell Inspiron 3420 bios version A09 suddenly stopped charging battery , and the power icon show this message(Plugged in and charging) but my battery does not charge.
I tested another charger and another battery but did not help.
Thinking that changing bios might  help,I am trying to change the bios but can't downgrade even i tried /forceit command.
I can access logic board if for troubleshooting someone could educate me about  voltages of sda, scl and dc jack connector to the board.
Kindly help me.

Answer:G50-70 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hello,

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.

I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.

What else can I do?

Thank you

Edit:
******Solution******

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.

a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

My G50-70 of less than a year just got a dead battery. The battery is constantly at 7%. It says "Plugged in, charging" but it doesn't actually charge. Please help!

Answer:G50-70 Battery says "Plugged in, Charging" but not charging

Hi Mistwild82,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.

Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.

Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.

Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

Answer:laptop charging

Sounds like the battery is dead; often a problem with laptops. How long have you had it? Having it connected to the mains with the battery installed can cause battery failure.

I have an Advent Roma 3000.

Basically i was given the laptop as it wouldn't charge and a relative couldn't be bothered to get it fixed or sell it.

What's happening is when i plug the charger in just a little bit of the way, there's like a faint spark sound and the laptop trys to power on, however as the charger is pushed fully in, the laptop just dies again and doesn't charge.

I can't hold the charger at the point the laptop turns on as any movement just shuts it off.
Things done already;

Replaced DC Jack + Wiring Harness
Replaced Battery
Replaced Charger

As i've already done the above, i think something motherboard level is preventing it from charging. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, My wife has just brought a new laptop and i am unsure about charging it. When the battery is fully charged is it alright to leave the laptop connected to the mains while she uses it? Or remove the battery which would leave a hole where the battery was and run it straight off the mains. Sorry if this sounds stupid.

Answer:Charging new laptop

I never remove the battery unless I want to 'get inside'.It's perfectly OK to have the mains connected when the battery is fully charged.

For a while now my laptop charger won't work and it takes a few attempts of wiggling it around to get it to work. Now, the orange light on the side that indicates charging won't light up, the light is white and a message from HP comes up telling me there's not enough power to charge it. After that, the light disappears and if I plug it in, no light comes on and I'm currently unable to charge it. Not sure if it's the charger or the port.

But when I shut it off the light goes orange and starts charging. Just recently when I turn it off it charges for 15 seconds then the light goes off for a second then stays on for another 15 seconds. I don't understand what is going on can someone please help me?

Answer:Laptop not charging

i know on most computers if the battery is low and orage battery light comes on are you sure its not the low battery light, if not you might just need a new battery or charger, What kind of computer is it, be specific.

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with laptop not charging.

Please check if the charging port is damaged, check with different battery if possible as for some of the model there will no external battery, also check with different adapter. Also check with different power cable if possible, also check in different power sockets. There might be fault with battery, adapter or the power cable.

If still same issue after swapping battery and adapter then it might be issue with the motherboard. Please visit the nearest service center for further details.

Hi guys, absolute novice/village idiot here. Recently updated my Pavilion G6 Notebook's OS, and ever since, when I hover over my battery reading in the bottom-right-hand corner of the screen, it says "Plugged in, not charging". This might be completely normal, and it might start charging once it gets to a certain low percentage of battery (currently at 15%), but I'm worried that it's not charging when plugged in. I don't have enough money to buy a new laptop without selling my limbs on the black market, so please help! Thank you.

Original AC wont charge or pass power to my lenovo2010... electricity goes through for a second before to stop.

So i isolated the problem, by using the ac in another lenovo 2005, which charges when turned off, but not when turned on?!

So AC's the buggger.... but that kinda bug is mesmerizing as, after applying "microsoft acpi uninstall&reboot" fix and the power did go through the boot on the lenovo2010, to finally revert to old issue, which makes me think voltage problem perhaps?! I am in the 3rd world and don't have a regulator, Perhaps it's the electricity?

meanwhile i am using a universal AC that works on both!

Answer:ac not charging in 1st laptop, only charging when off in 2nd laptop?

Hi
From what you discribed sounds like the adapter is faulty as you have a universal adapter just use that one or buy another adapter
