Question: Thinkpad Yoga 14 battery "plugged in, not charging...

As I'm typing this now im running on about 20% battery and dropping. I've had my Z710 Ideapad for almost 2 years now. within these 2 years I've replaced the battery twice, got 3 new adapters, and had sent it in for the factory to basiclly gut it and replace it with graphics drives that were inferior to the previous ones. So needless to say Its really annoying that now my biggest problem is that my laptop now will randomly stop charging randomly, regardless of if its on or off.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

1: Remove the AC adapter plug.
2: Remove the battery.
3: Press the power button for about 30 seconds. This will clear the capacitors.
4: Insert the battery and plug in the AC adapter.
5: Press the power button.

Hello, My recently bought Thinkpad Yoga 14 recently had this strange problem going on. The battery goes down, even when the AC cord is plugged in. The battery message says "plugged in, not charging". What exactly is the problem, and how do I fix it? The laptop came with Windows 10. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you! ??

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 14 battery "plugged in, not charging...

It isn't a problem.  The battery has a nearly full charge, so the charging turns off so as not to "cook" the battery.  If you unplug the battery and let it run down a while, then plug it in, it will charge.  I tend not to charge mine until it gets under about 70%.  A Lithium battery slowly degrades after a certain number of charges.

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Hello! I am coming back to my laptop after not having used in much over the summer and I noticed that it says "plugged in, not charging". When I unplug it, the battery starts to go down but it will not go back up if I plug it back in. I cannot remove the battery so I am hoping that there is some way for me to fix it through the settings on the computer. Thank you in advance for your help.

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing battery issues in your Lenovo ThinkPad SL500.
 
I would suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps.
 
Go to control panel -> Device manager. Under batteries tab, uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery, restart the system and check if battery charges properly.
 
If the above said didn?t help, shutdown, unplug AC and remove battery. Press and hold power button for several seconds. Then re-install battery and AC, restart and see.
 
Update BIOS to the latest level.

tried most of the solutions here but doesn't work because are either for different model or different OS. can anyone help? really frustrated and thinking of returning and going w/ another brand/model. there's no energy management icon.cannot find maximize battery life vs optimize battery life option.already installed settings dependency package version 2.0.0.11.also installed lenovo power management driver 1.67.04.04 as a last resort (if decide to just return and not deal w/ hassle), how do i restore thinkpad yoga to factory settings? really like device but too many problems (cannot even connect to wifi) but that's another problem...

Hi I have had the same problem - got my Thinkpad Yoga on the 2/1/14. Windows 8.1 OS. The initial power management option in 'Lenovo settings' when I installed the OS provided for an option to 'Automatically optimize for battery life? - which I have just read elsewhere was supposedly removed as it had issues with Windows 8.1 (I could not agreee more) and got it resolved myself through some trial and error and retesting to prove the bug was repeatable for my own peace of mind as to the cause of the error. The only reason I am telling you the above is because you might have got yourself where you are by doing what I did - and that reverting out is not as simple as turning off that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? back to 'Full power'. I assume the 'Lenovo settings' software is dynamically provided over the internet, because that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? power menu option has now (fortunately) gone missing in the past 36 hours. HOWEVER, as I am having numerous OS blue screen of death issues, I reloaded the OS from scratch off the recovery drive to try and stabilise the OS and experienced the exact same issue with the machine not recharging after the OS was reinstalled. My Yoga 500 won't charge. While plugged in, the orange battery light flickers on and off, but the battery remains at 0% and says "plugged in, not charging".  This started when the battery fully discharged after I unplugged the laptop for 10 minutes (from 100% battery power).  Can anyone help? I can't even unplug the laptop for a second now or it shuts off completely.  Incidentally, the battery was replaced by Lenovo after I sent it in about 3 months ago because it was faulty. But now the laptop is out of warrenty. This is getting to be beyond a joke!

I seem to be having an intermittent "Not Charging" issue on my Lenovo Yoga 900.
 
It usually happens when it's fully charged and I unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in. If I let it drop below 93-95% it will usually say "Plugged in, charging" again.
 
Is this some sort of glitch, or a feature? I tried looking to see if I had the "conservation" setting on, and I do not.
 
I have a few days to take it back to the store if I need to. I'd really rather not send it in because we have problems with couriers dropping off packages that end up getting stolen because we live in an apartment with multiple locked doors, so they usually pitch it beside the door and run off and then someone else takes off with our stuff. Had it happen a couple of times with Amazon orders. (grr)

Good day and welcome to the community.This is my experience with my Yoga 900 and Yoga 900S. This way the system isn't trying to constantly top off 1 or 2%, which is not good for the battery. By contrast, Conservation Mode will charge to ~60% and then stop. That has some benefits, also. Personally, I'm not using Conservation Mode, and so far I've not seen any negative effects on my batteries.

Answer:Yoga 13 and battery is plugged in, not charging.

What is the charge level? If it is more than 60%, then the battery will start charging when battery level goes below 60%. This would be valid if the battery setting has been set to maximum lifespan in energy management. If optimize for runtime had been selected and it still doesnt charge or in the eatlier option below 60% it is not charging, then you would have to take laptop to support.

Answer:Yoga 900 - Battery *Plugged in, not charging*

You need to have a look at the battery settings in the Lenovo utilities.  If you have the power setting set to maximise battery life (or similar), you may get that message when the battery is approximately halfway discharged.

Battery is stuck at 5% when plugged in, and when I mouseover the battery icon in the tray it says "plugged in, not charging." I tried uninstalling energy management and then reinstalling in, to no avail. This is quite frustrating

Got lenovo support help. What fixed the problem was unplugging the charger, shutting down the computer, then holding the power button for 20 seconds. While the button was held, the computer turned on, showed the startup screen, and the quickly turned off again. I plugged the charger back in, and voila, charging again!

Hi, i bought this Lenovo Yoga 13 machine 3 days ago, and now the battery is discharging and when i plug the power cord the battery icon shows me the "plugged in not charging" message. The problem began last night. I've read some forums, and tried changing the battery configuration to this or that, nothing works. I've also read that in 65% the battery will start to charge. It doesn't, i'm currently in 56% and discharging. The problem began after a Windows 8 update, so I'm suspecting the OS is the problem....  I dont know what will happen when the battery discharge completely.... but i will discharge it and tell here what happens... Help!!!

I?d like to advise you to try to turn on the machine using the Ac-Adapter only without the battery to make sure if the Ac-Adapter is charging and working fine,
 
If the charger is working fine let me ask you to try to uninstall the Lenovo energy management application and then try to refresh the system and then try to install the software back again and then  check the battery icon status,

Hi!My Yoga 500-15ISK Laptop seems to have a battery issue. For some time now, whenever I plug my laptop into the AC power, I get this message, e.g. "(% charge) available, (plugged in, charging)", however for some reason, the battery level actually stays the same even after a significant amount of time of being plugged in to the AC supply. Moreover, the battery icon initially shows the animated one which indicates charging is indeed in progress, then after a few moments, it will freeze on the estimated level.Before this, my laptop's battery usually charges relatively quickly. Also, I have not turned on the Conservation Mode so it must charged up beyond 50-60% especially if I leave it plugged in overnight. This issue is really bewildering me right now. Any comments or suggestions on how I can address this issue?Thanks!Other notes re my laptop:It's been around 10 months since I've bought it and I have encountered this issue only a few days ago.I have no other issues with it.

A few weeks ago, my Yoga 2 Pro entered a permanent "plugged in, charging" state whether plugged in or running on just the battery. The battery drains as normal, it just always shows the plugged in icon. It also charges as normal. When I turn it off, the "plugged in" LED remains lit even after I unplug the power cord. Anyone else have similar issues? I'm tempted to rewrite the BIOS and see if this fixes it. Thanks for the help!

Yes, this is another thread created because there is a problem with an SL500 and the battery. Have had it for a little over a year (warranty expires after a year). Here is the issue:When my Thinkpad is plugged in and the battery is connected, the battery icon reads plugged in, not charging. Scanned the battery and it says the battery is in good condition. The battery has 84% power. The second I unplug the laptop it immediately loses power and shuts off. Its like the laptop does not recognize there is a battery in it with ample power. I do not think this is a battery issue because the battery has plenty of power.I have seen multiple threads with owners that own the same laptop that have had the same problem. Most of them said they tried buying a new battery and that did not work.To make it even better, I called IBM support and because my machine is no longer under warranty they will not provide support or troubleshooting assistance. On top of that, in order to get the laptop fixed by IBM/Lenovo it is a 575$ fee. This issue has been acknowledged by multiple Thinkpad SL500 owners. This is ridiculous, I bought the **bleep** thing for like 650$. I will probably just buy a new laptop if the problem persists and I cannot fix the issue. We will just have to use this laptop exclusively when it is plugged in only.Any assistance or ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

What happens if you let the battery discharge from the 47% in your screenshot, and then plug it in again?  Will it recharge to ~47%?  Or will it then be stuck at the new (lower) level?

I have a Lenovo T430 running UBUNTU 14.04
 
I have just bought a new battery (official battery) and it was fine for a couple of weeks, but now it doesnt charge, and the battery light flashes amber continually. I checked the battery status and it says 0 for charging.
 
I have searched online and there are suggestions for WIndows about deleting drivers, but with UBUNTU there doesnt seem to be a solution?

After a system update yesterday my laptop battery icon indicates that it is plugged in not charging.  A quick Google search revealed this is a known problem however attempts at some of the suggested fixes have been unsuccessful in my situation.  I've tried:taking out the battery and uninstalling Microsoft ACPI-compliant Control Method Batteryupdating the power management driverupdating Lenovo Settings Dependency Package(The Windows power plan is set to balanced) The timing of the problem (after an update) and the fact that the laptop is 2 months old lead me to think it is a software rather than a hardware problem. Any helpful suggestions for what I could try next?

Hi, I just bought my Yoga 13 few days ago, since it is new i updated the OS and did windows update. I updated my laptop to 8.1, after the update i noticed that the charging get stuck at 60percent and when hovering over the battery icon it shows "PLUGGED IN, NOT CHARGING." Help on this issue, it's frustating to see this problem since it's a new unit.  Thanks in advance.

Answer:Yoga 13 Battery stuck at 60% "Plugged in, not charging" after updating to Windows 8.1

Go into Lenovo Energy Manager > click on the menu button > Settings tab > turn OFF conservation mode. This setting is designed to help conserve the health of your battery if you tend to use your laptop while plugged in.  It's not good for the battery to be held at 100% for long periods of time, so instead this setting stops chargins when the battery reaches 60% to prevent battery damage.

Hi everyone.I hope someone can help me, because i cant find a solution to my problem and its really frustrating. I can't fully charge my laptop, in the beginning it would only charge to 85%, but now it barely charges above 45%(and its declining further, so in some time I cant use the laptop without AC-Adapter and thats a big problem for me).When the battery reaches its "full" potential, it displays: "Plugged in, not charging" I know its a problem with lenovos maximum battery life settings, but theres no option available in the Lenovo settings to go for a full charged battery. Am currently on BIOS 1.18, Windows 10(did a factory reset), updated drivers but nothing seems to work. Hope somebody can help me with my problem.

Have you tried resetting the battery? Power off the laptop. Underneath the laptop, located in the middle is a small pin hole. Using a straightened paper clip or sim card remover pin, press the pin hole. Power on the laptop and check again. As the battery is integrated, there is no physical way to take it out and put it back in. The pin hole (reset) mirrors this process.

a short & simple question:  can the battery be charged by plugging a USB charger into one of the USB ports?  (this is not covered by the manual, but I think I recollect reading a comment in a review that this could be done)   or is the only means of charging by using the supplied power pack?

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. Good day, I bought my Lenovo G580H 1 week before, and before few days i saw, that the battery is not charging. First time the battery was on 61%, later when i was watching the film without AC adapter and after it pluged the AC adapter i saw, that the battery is on 7% and not charging. So no it's not charging too and when you want to watch a film or something without ac adapter laptop is truns off autmatically. So for what i should be angry? I?m sorry to hear that the Battery is not charging and also not providing backup as expected in your G580 Laptop, I suggest you to open the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and perform ?Battery Gauge Reset? to get the issue confirmed.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).
 
2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"?  F2 at powerup to check.

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.
 

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS. 
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue.When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

Answer:T60 Battery ; Plugged in, not charging, I get it to work eventually, but it can drain my battery!!

Oh, and another thing. This happens to my brother aswell (also owns a T60); the laptop would be working fine, until it decides to give us a black screen. Only way out of this is to put it to sleep, and wake it up again. Nothing in particular starts this issue. Thanks

Hi all,I have a brand new i7 Yoga 13 running windows 8 from Best Buy. As soon as it booted up, I have not been able to charge my battery. As I hover over the icon, it says "Plugged in and Charging" but it does not include a percentage. I have had it plugged in overnight, and if I unplug the computer, it will die immediately. I have tried updating my BIOS, energy managment and setting it to "Maximum battery life," but nothing changes. Thoughts?Thanks

I was working on my laptop with it plugged in for a few hours.  Went to unplug it and saw that it was only at 1% battery.  Anyone experience this before? Is this something that I should be worrying about or a random malfunction?  I've had my 11inch Yoga 2 since October and haven't ran into any trouble yet.  Any way to troubleshoot this?Thanks

After a System Updade yesterday, my X1 Yoga is suddenly not charging my battery.  There's a message when hovering over the battery icon that says "4% available (plugged in, not charging)".  Not sure if the update is related or coincidental, but the battery tests as normal, and the power supply is working to maintain power.  I've tried different power supplies, numerous reboots, uninstalling the "Lenovo Settings" app, and disabling/re-enabling, removing and reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery adapter.  Someone please help!

For some reason, my Lenovo Yoga 13 that I just got from Best Buy last week, isn't charging.  I know for sure that it was charging like it was suppose to this morning.  I closed the screen and put it into sleep mode for about 2 hours with it plugged in while I went to class, and when I came back and opened it up, I realized that it was at 31%  and saying that it is "plugged in, but not charging".  I tried a system restore to the previous day to see if that would help, but it didn't.   I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Energy Management, but that didn't help. (I wonder if I did it right?) BTW under "Battery" in Energy Management, it won't let me select "Optimized Battery Health".  I would click it, it would stay for a second, but then it would immediately switch back to "Maximum Battery Life" option. I really don't know what else to do.  I've shut it down, restarted it, and everything.  What else is there to try?  Please help me.  I really want this laptop to work out.  I really love it and I can't get it exchanged because Best Buy no longer carries it. Please!! FYI,  I've already upgraded to windows 8.1.  I did the upgrade a week ago when I just go the laptop.  I don't think windows is the issue, is it?

Hmm, no one replied, but just incase someone sees this and is wondering how I fixed it.  I let the battery drain all the way, and then plugged it in and restarted it.  The battery has been charging like it suppose to since then.  I hope it stays that way.

Hi everyone.I have a yoga 500 14isk. My laptop is well but i think i have a problem. I charged my battery fully after that i start using but i didnt take off the charger. Then i realized that the bettery level is going down to %98. But the  charger was plugged in. I see this eror when you charged fully and start the using about anything,programming,gaming,whatching movie.... I went to warranty for this issue and they changed the battery. But i think this problems source is windows 10. If i take off the charger and contunie the using laptop,when battery level is comes under the %90,i am pluging in again and the battery start charging again.So that i can see the battery level is %100.?f you see this eror,firstly go to warranty shop.I will use my laptop  a little time and if i see this eror again,i will go to service again.

Answer:Yoga 500 14ISK plugged in not charging

Actually this is fine. Thas is the way it should work. Your battery life is calculated in charging-decharging cycles. Imaging that if the charger went on after dropping from 100% to 99% and charged your battery again to 100%...and then it goes off and the level drops again to 99% and then again...the charger is on to charge it fully to 100%, this costs a lot of more cycles that dropping to lets say 96-97%. This causes less wear to the battery

I bought a Lenovo Yoga and after it arrived in the mail yesterday I plugged it in and let it charge today it showed plugged in not charging & after getting help from Lenovo support 8 hours ago I've been waiting for OneKey Optimizer to finish battery conditioning and hoping someone could give me direction on how long to wait or if I should just return it as it's only the 2nd day I've had it and it's already needed to be called in.

This is incredibly poor customer support Lenovo. You clearly have an issue here, and you've done nothing to resolve it. Many solution I see requires you to remove the battery. You cannot remove the Yoga 2 11 battery. There are other solutions that state to use a different USB cable - the Yoga 2 11 doesn't use a USB charger, it's a standard cord and brick. There are no fixes that work. How am I supposed to be mobile with a tablet that won't charge? What is the fix for this issue? The battery has just stopped charging. "Plugged in, not charging" is all it says. Energy Manager says the battery is charged to a high capacity, yet the gauge is at ZERO! I'm at ZERO 0% battery life, I am now stuck without a mobile laptop. This is outrageous. Can someone help? I've installed the BiOS update, to no avail. Made sure drivers are up to date - no difference. Extremely frustrating.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.
 
I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.
 
What else can I do?

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.
 
a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

My G50-70 of less than a year just got a dead battery. The battery is constantly at 7%. It says "Plugged in, charging" but it doesn't actually charge. Please help!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.
 
 Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.
 
Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.
 
Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

My Lenovo Thinkpad is not charging the battery and shows a "plugged in, not charging" message. I have a pending Bios update that won't update since the batteries are not charged.  Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? Is there a way to update the Bios with just power plugged in?

What charging threshold do you have set in either Lenovo companion or Lenovo Vantage app?  For me I have it set at 70% and 80%.  In other words my battery wont charge until it falls below 70% and it will stop at 80%.  So if its at 75% for example it will show "plugged in, not charging"

I have a Thinkpad S431 running Windows 10 (and has been running Win 10 for a long time) that is several years old. Just today I noticed that the battery symbol says "plugged in, not charging." 
 
I tried to research this problem and many suggestions involved removing the actual battery which I cannot do. I tried all of the other suggestions I found and nothing has worked.
 
Any suggestions? The Lenovo companion app tells me the AC adapter is working and the battery is in good condition.
 
I can't think of anything that has changed that might have caused this - no recent downloads or anything or malware.

Hello Everyone, I'm the owner of a Edge E450 (ThinkPad), i bought it 1 years ago. I have problem with my battery and it happens suddenly. When AC adapter is unplugged, the Laptop immediately die. But if the AC adapter is plugged in, the battery status "0% Plugged In, Not Charging".I'm already run Battery Gauge Reset on Power Management, and I tried to step:(1) Power off, unplug power lead, remove the battery.(2) Press power button for ~10 seconds to clear any residual charge.(3) Plug in power lead, power on (without battery).(4) Log in, let the software settle down. It discovers there is no battery.!(5) Power off, insert battery, power on again.(6) Log in, let the software settle down. Now the 'new' battery is charging!but it does not work all.  if I have to replace the battery? While the battery is still new and it happens suddenly, before the battery is very durable. Sorry for my bad english.

Got the brand new Thinkpad W530 and after after couple of days battary is not getting charged and giving message"plugged in, not charging". Does any have any idea on how to resolve this issue? Appriciate your help and thanks in advance.

Mine did it back in 2010, and it was a hardware problem.. they had to change the motherboard. You might want to check in your power management setting to see what is the % left needed to start charging.

Hi, I have thinkpad R61i laptop model 7650 A6G. The charging light is continuously blinking orange. The laptop works normally when AC adapter is plugged and on and shows plugged in but not charging. I cannot turn on my laptop on battery. Power manager reports that battery has failed due to normal wear. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery. Earlier, the battery was working fine. The problem came few hours later after upgrading to windows 7. I have tried plugging out the AC, removing the battery, reinstalling but nothing worked. I have upgraded BIOS. The battery was working absolutely fine earlier. Any suggestion.........

Hi,My SL500 battery is not charging and I am getting the message that "Plugged in, not charging" if I rollover my cursor or click on battery charging icon. I have scanned my system for hardware and software issues using the Lenovo Think Vantage Toolbox it says battery condition is good and scan passed (no issues regarding software and hardware).Should I trust on this test?The problem started when my laptop battery got discharged completely and my system got shutdown by itself (due to discharged battery). I was working till late night, so at the time when my system got down by itself; I did not kept it on charger and I got asleep. Next morning after 8-9 hours I booted my system and it was not charging my battery and system says 26% battery, but when I try to keep my system on battery it just shuts down.I thought there might be some problem with my AC adaptor, so I tested with new AC adaptor and the problem remains same it was not charging the battery.Any suggestions what should I do? BTW I have windows 7(upgraded from vista 3-4 months back) . Thanks?Ruch

Answer:ThinkPad SL500 Plugged in not charging !

First off - if it's under warranty send it back.  It could be that the charging system on the laptop is fried, meaning the A/C current is passing through to POWER the system, but not charge the battery.  It's more likely that your battery is in fact damaged and misreporting the results to you. You could try disconnecting EVERYTHING (battery removed from th laptop, A/C Adapter disconnected from laptop AND the wall) and let everything sit and discharge for a few hours.  Then, plug the A/C adapter back into the laptop (with the battery out) and start the system.  If it comes up OK, power off, add the battery in and repeat.  If it's a simple issue, that will solve it.  Otherwise the problem is more involved and HOPEFULL you have a warranty.

Hello Everyone, I'm the owner of a Edge E450 (ThinkPad), i bought it 1 years ago. I have problem with my battery and it happens suddenly. When AC adapter is unplugged, the Laptop immediately die. But if the AC adapter is plugged in, the battery status "0% Plugged In, Not Charging".I'm already run Battery Gauge Reset on Power Management, and I tried to step:(1) Power off, unplug power lead, remove the battery.(2) Press power button for ~10 seconds to clear any residual charge.(3) Plug in power lead, power on (without battery).(4) Log in, let the software settle down. It discovers there is no battery.!(5) Power off, insert battery, power on again.(6) Log in, let the software settle down. Now the 'new' battery is charging!but it does not work all.  if I have to replace the battery? While the battery is still new and it happens suddenly, before the battery is very durable. Sorry for my bad english.

Hi, I have a 3 year old (ish) T540p which all of a sudden is giving me this message when the ac power adapter is plugged in.  I have two adapters as I have the docking station also which I normally use and neither of these adapters are working.  I have read some posts on here and tried all of the suggested actions to rectify this but none seem to be working for some reason. Funnily enough in the Lenovo Vantage application I tried to do the battery gauge reset and as soon as i set that off the laptop started to charge and got up to 100%, i left it for a good couple of hours and didn't seem to move on to the next part in the cycle which is to drain the battery so I cancelled it.  I thought that the fact that it had started to charge might have reset something but alas I'm back in the same position where I'm getting the plugged in but not charging message. I've recently updated to Windows 10 but the chargers have worked fine since, now for some reason they are not. Can anybody give me any help troubleshooting to try and sort the problem out.  Is it likely to be the battery which needs replacing or is there someting else that it could be perhaps? Thanks.

What about your battery threshold settings? When you're doing battery calibration (gauge reset), it's a common thing that your inducator stucks at some percentage of charging and discharging. I suggest you to turn off any threshold you set, turn off the machine, turn it on with no battery, then turn it off and re-set the battery.What about discharging? Is it normal? Try to discharge it to below 50% and then plug the charger.

Hi, I have read many people have similar issues for other models other than my Thinkpad x240 20AL but removing the battery won't solve my problem. It is plugged in, it says plugged in but battery is not charging (none of the two batteries this laptop has). I have gone to Driver Manager and uninstalled the 3 Microsoft drivers under battery section. After restarting or scanning for new hardware these drivers appear again and the problem is not solved. I have restarted de computer. Problem not solved I have removed the batter and put it back. Problem not solved. After one night, I switched on the laptop and one of the battery has charged. Right now it says plugged in, charging and it shows already 100% although it keeps charging. The other battery still shows 98% not charging.. I believe this must be a software issue, some power management that prevents the laptop from charging the battery. But where is that software and how to configure it or remove it? I have looked for Lenovo Power Management and similar and it is not installed on my laptop. Anybody knows what I am talking about?

For a few months now, at some point my battery would indicate nn% (plugged in, not charging) and would maintain that charge as long as it was plugged in. Running on the battery, the charge would eventually diminish and in order to get the battery to charge again, I have gone through to process of uninstalling the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager. Usually within 24 hours, things would revert back to plugged in, not charging. However, that is no longer remedying the problem. (When this was an issue the indicator light next to where the AC Adaptor plugs in would flash blue. Also, I upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 a few weeks ago, but this issue has been occurring for a few months now). Now the battery reads 2% (plugged in, not charging) and when I use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery, I get the message ?HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery?. I have performed a hard reset, reset the BIOS, and updated the BIOS, all to no avail. If I unplug the adaptor, the computer shuts off. Any suggestions for additional fixes? I have seen one additional suggestion to do a system recovery but I have not yet made a recovery disk for win 10 (I do have one for the win 8.1), and would it make any difference anyway since the plugged in, not charging problem was occurring under win 8.1?

I have a lenovo b40, which isn't charging. Yesterday it showed "plugged in, not charging". Now, even with the charger plugged in, it doesn't display anything. Also, the power light is blinking. I pressed down the power switch with the battery attached, it simply blinked faster. When I tried the same thing without the battery, nothing happened.

At first, I use the conversation mode because I don`t use battery very often.Today I find the battery is only 30% left while it should be 55-60%. Even I shut down this function, the battery still cannot charge.I need to use the battery, but I can`t. A second time, Lenovo!

If the problem is triggered by new Windows update or changes on configuration , you may try this steps:
 
Step 1
First try power drain. 
Turn off , unplug the charger , remove the battery and press down the power button for 20 seconds. 
Restart and check for charging . 
 
Step 2
Else proceed uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method from Device Manager .  
Then restart. (click on highlight for detail step)
 
Step 3
Uninstall Energy Management from Programs and Features similar to this and restart .
Check if charging and then Install new updated version of the Energy Manager from the support site under Power Management component for your Windows version. 
 
With Li-based batteries , chemicals can go disarray / not evenly distibuted for utilization be that any battery manufacturer  that supplies to your model. 
 
None the less  , if this would happen to you often and that you have tried all 3 steps . 
Please call in tech support to best assist you to get things resolved within it's warranty coverage .

I did the followings but did not fix it :

Unplugged the machine
Removed the battery
Plugged everything back in ( except the battery ) and loaded the machine
Turned off the machine
Put the battery back in.

This is the 2nd time. Fisrt time I fixed that by performing the above steps. Not this time.
Google search suggests faulty adaptor, as well as contacting Acer while still in warranty.

After googling, I came across this suggestion :
Device Manager > expand Battery > Right click at Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > uninstall > Action button > Scan for hardware changes

That did not solve the issue either.

Is there anything else I can do without calling Acer ?

The title is the message I've been getting for about the past month and a half. I noticed my battery draining, even while plugged in, until it finally got to 0%. With the power adapter plugged in, the laptop still runs but I just recently had an experience where the laptop was suddenly cutting off, even while plugged in.I've done as much troubleshooting as possible, but I haven't been able to figure out the problem. I managed to switch the laptop over into power saver mode and it's been letting me use it without dying immediately on me. I have an internal battery, so the option to remove and power it on separately isn't an option for me.

1.) Tried a Hard reset using the pin-hole reset button for the internal battery, while completely unplugged.
2.) Tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.

Hi,I am having a strange issue. I was running windows 8.1 and then I downgraded to windows 7 and since I have downgraded to windows 7 I am having this problem battery 0% plugged, not charging. As soon as I remove the power, laptop shuts down. My laptop is less than one year old.I tried all the options on internet such as uninstalling battery driver through Device Manager.Main question I would like to ask, is this a software issue or hardware.I gave my laptop to a friend to downgrade windows and once laptop came back to me after a week, battery is not working. new battery of my hp630 is not charging after 55% though ac adapter is plugged in. tried with other hp ac adapters also same thing happens. testes the battery condition with hp pc diagnostics which shoes it's ok.even tried by uninstalling and installing the microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery according to the suggestion from some troubleshooting blogs.please help.

My battery icon says '2%  available (plugged in, not charging)'.  I have done a battery check on Hp Support assistant and it says:The battery is reporting a failure and needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Based on the age of your PC and battery, it appears it is no longer covered by your HP Warranty. REOOW I'm not sure about replacing the batterry. I read the  previous threads.  I tried uninstalling microsoft acpi compliant control method battery and searching for hardware changes.  It didn't work.  I tried with shutting down and with out.  I tried it with the battery in and without.  I tried with turning of windows explorer and turning it back on.  Nothing works.  Please help

I bought a new battery for my laptop because the original one had lost endurance, it would last only about 45 minutes, anyway. So I put the new battery in and the computer sometimes doesn't recognize it, sometimes it does but most of the time it says : Plugged in but not charging.

I'm not too sure what to do, I made sure to buy the exact same battery with the same model #, etc.

I got my Inspiron 15-5000 series recently notice that the battery charged up to 60% and stop charging after that.
I was trying to change the setting in the Dell Power Management Lite many times but the setting does not work and also try to uninstall the battery drivers several time but it seen does not work.

Any idea who to solve it?

Hi, I found a lot of answers on the topic but unfortunately none resolved it. So it's simple - the charger is not charging beyond 44% and recently it increased to 48%, and it says "not charging". Battery health is good, I updated the bios, reinstalled both battery drivers multiple times in multiple ways. I am using windows 10, desktop and longevity options for battery are disabled. Only thing I didn't try yet is turning off computer, battery out for 2-3h, etc. due to not having clear steps on how to perform it + would like to know if it's needed.

I have been faced with quite a frustrating computer/ battery problem. You see my computer does not turn on, that is unless it is plugged in with my charger in which case it will it will turn on. However, when I click on the bottom right-hand corner battery symbol it will provide me with the statement saying, " Plugged in not charging". On top of this, I did check the battery status on my computer, it provided me with the information that my computer battery is, "Ok", however, needs charging.This leads me to wonder is this a battery problem or an AC Adapter problem.

I cant use my laptop unless plugged in... There is no battery left at all and it wont charge...
I have tried to update BIOS but I couldnt because I got a message that the battery needs to be at least 10% charged.
I have confirmed that the charger gives the required volatge, so the charger is fine..
I have no idea if there is something wrong with the battery cz it passed the online dell test..and I dont want to buy a new battery for no reason. 
So I have no idea whats wrong to fix it... 
any ideas?

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
In the meantime, please check status of AC adapter in the BIOS. If adapter isn't detected in BIOS, the system will continue to received power but will not charge the battery. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off system.
2. Power on system, quickly start tapping F2 key continuously. You should be in the BIOS. The status of adapter usually listed under the main screen.
The adapter should say the adapter type, if it says 'Unknown' or 'None', then it's a issue with the adapter, and most likely needs to replace with a Dell genuine adapter that suitable for the system. Note: Wiggle the adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS

I am getting this error on my laptop and it is only 8 months old and have tried 2 batteries and the same thing is happening and Dell customer support last night told us it is NOT covered under warranty because it is wear and tear which does not make any sense to me i have owed several dells in the past and never had this problem.

The problem is with the adapter, DC jack or mainboard - replace the parts one at a time until the problem is solved.
As long as there's no evident damage (broken wires on the plug, broken DC jack) the warranty should cover the problem.
If there is evidence of damage - broken wires, broken jack, physical damage to the system -- Dell will deny warranty coverage as it'll be considered accidental damage.
If you need parts references we'll need to know what model system it is (i.e., Inspiron 5537, XPS L501x, etc.).

i have been on forums and followed the steps given ( removing battery and ac power and holding down power button for 1 minute etc) and the problem persists. my laptop is just out of warranty and my battery cannot need replacing after only just over a year. ive also seen on forums that this is a common problem with HP, have updated bios and drivers, is there anything else i can do? please help

Battery plugged in, not charging:Age of laptop 27 months My battery doesn't charge anymore.  If I make a HP battery test on my HP Support Assistant it shows me as a result : Battery OK.  Meaning: The battery is functioning properly. If I test the battery with an additional programm it shows me a battery wear level 100%. This means, the battery should not be rechargeable anymore.  - What should I do?- Replace battery?- I have a capacitiy of 18% left. What happens if I reach 0%? The last 2 days I have had this problem with a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and have been using it with the power adapter/charger plugged in. Yet this morning I have started up the laptop with the power plugged in, and now it shows that the battery is plugged in & charging !!
Checking the battery yesterday it showed " battery life- moderate." As everything works fine with the power adapter plugged in, I assume that the adapter is fine.
If the problem arises again, can I use a power adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop which runs Windows 7 ? This Inspiron 1545 laptop runs Windows Vista.
Hopefully someone can advise re the use of the 630M adapter with the 1545. Will it be safe ? I do not want to cause damage to the Vista machine.
