Lumia 950 randomly restarting, sometimes black screen on wake, sometimes no touch on wake. why?

Question: Lumia 950 randomly restarting, sometimes black screen on wake, sometimes no touch on wake. why?

I've started to have a number of debilitating problems with my lumia 950, which is a shame because they are the same problems that made me leave android for the WP platform. To start off, my phone has been randomly restarting. The restarting seems to have started after the anniversary update version 1607. There's nothing common between one reset to the next, just that they become more frequent as battery life reduces (starts at around 80%). This is also sometimes accompanied by a streak yellow across the screen. I don't know if this is relevant or not.
My second issue, which has been happening the longest, is that the screen will sometimes be completely off when I wake up the phone. I will put the phone into sleep with the power button, and when I wake it up with the power button the screen is black. I know the phone is awake because windows hello will try to sign me in. I have reason to believe that the touch digitizer is also still working. This is fixed either by trying to sleep cycle the phone or by holding down the power button until the phone prompts me to power it off. This seems to wake the screen up. the screen also sometimes wakes up when windows hello signs me in, but this is rare. This problem has become less frequent since the anniversary update.
My third problem is that sometimes the touch digitizer doesn't work on wake. This is similar to my last problem, except that it always goes away by sleep cycling my phone. This problem has also become less prominent since the anniversary update.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm probably going to take my phone to a windows store this weekend to see it they can do anything about it, but I'm not hopeful exactly. I've had bad experiences with my last windows phone, a lumia 930/icon, so I'm starting to lose trust with Microsoft.

Preferred Solution: Lumia 950 randomly restarting, sometimes black screen on wake, sometimes no touch on wake. why?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi after replacing the screen on my Lumina 520 tap to wake stopped working. Now the seller send a replacement screen with the same issue. The seller has let me know it is a tested device and I should look at other faults. According to the description it is a genuine screen.
Any ways to test, like reverting back to windows phone 8 or other reasons for defected tap to wake?
Thanks for all the help.

Answer:Why don't I have the tap to wake after the screen replacement Lumia 520?

It just has to work on your current OS.
If tap to wake does not work then I would say that this part is not a genuine original OEM part manufactured by Nokia but a "copy" or look alike or whatever.
During the assembly you could have damaged it but then you damaged it 2 times and only the tape to wake part so that is possible but not very likely.

I am having a problem that is driving me nuts! I have an HP Presario x1460CA laptop about three years old. Occasionally it will not wake up from sleep or standby mode. The computer works as I can connect it to an external monitor to see the screen. The screen is black and the back light works as when I press the button that turns off the screen when you close the lid, the screen gets darker. I have upgraded the BIOS and XP is upgraded to SP2.

SP is Home Edition V2002 SP2
Processor is an Intel Pentium(R) M at 1500 MHz
598 MHz, 512 MB RAM

Eventually it will come on after a hard boot. I have had several technicians look at it and they can't seem to find anything amiss.

Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

I am having an issue that only started at the weekend, and doing system restore hasn't solved it.
Running Windows 7 Ultimate, fully patched up with hibernation enabled.
If I wake my computer using my remote it works fine, but during the night my computer wakes up to do some maintenance/updating. Normally it would go back to sleep using MCE Standby tool.
Only changes made this week were some MS updates, and now it doesn't go back to sleep. When I turn the TV on all I get is a black screen, and I have to do a forced reboot.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Black screen after maintenance wake

Look through Computer lags every couple seconds, and especially the parts referring to the event viewer logs and system file checks. Those logs should include information regarding the power/sleep cycles and any errors associated with those cycles. That would be the first place to check. Also, make sure all drivers are up to date, and re-install your graphics and network drivers even if they are up to date. It is possible you have corrupted drivers that are preventing the system from entering sleep again, and the network and display card adapter drivers are likely culprits with these types of problems.
To fully re-install a driver, use the following steps.Click Start Menu
Right Click My Computer/Computer
Click Manage
Click Device Manager from the list on the left
Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
Right click the device
Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
Restart your computer
Install the latest driver for the device once Windows starts.

Alternatively:Login as an adminstrative user.
Click Start Menu
Click Control Panel
Click Hardware and Sound
Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)

All right, I can't figure this out. I got all the lenovo updates and all windows updates.  SL500 with Vista home basic.  Putting it to sleep is fine, but when waking up, it goes into a black screen which then I have to hold the power button down and manually restart.  Seems this has happened before, and now it's happening on the SL.  Anyone with simliar problems?  Any workarounds?

Answer:Black screen on wake up from sleep

I have the same problem with my SL500 too, quite alot of times since i bought the notebook.... Occurs when i try to wake it up after sleep or hibernation mode. Do you sometimes get a blue screen too? Does your error log record the crash as a 'Bluescreen' problem?  I've read that its due to the Vista OS. How retarded is that... not sure how to fix it, it's **bleep** frustrating..

Sometimes it does work, sometimes doesn't, its very bad. Microsoft HAS to update that very SOOON! Update the touch, double tap, audio and screen (because sometimes my screen flashes! And the audio is lagged!

Answer:Why double tap to wake up screen doesn't work properly on my Lumia 735?

cant say about those other problems for sure - but make sure the proximity sensor above the screen isn't obstructed because DDTW is disabled when the sensor is blocked, like when its in a pocket.
I also feel that device might not be working right anyway - so I would soft reset, maybe hard/factory reset and even consider taking it to support.

This is an older laptop - a Lenovo 3000 C200; I never had this problem with XP or Win7; after updating to 10, I get a black screen after waking up from sleep and have to to hold down the power button until the machine shuts off and reboot.
This machine has Mobile Intel 945GM Express graphics; I've tried
- updating system BIOS
- reverting to Lenovo intel drivers (were older than the Win10 ones)
Is there perhaps a way to force a graphics driver reload/power on after wake? Anything else I might try? Thanks.

So my laptop has the latest drivers and updates installed but ever since I've installed Windows 7 I get a black screen after trying to wake it up from sleep mode. When I put it to sleep (close the lid or do it via the start menu), everything works fine. It gos to sleep and the light starts blinking. But once I open the lid I can hear the sound of the hard drive starting & the wi-fi button starts to glow, it literally resumes from sleep but the screen stays black. Everything else works fine but not being able to put it in sleep mode is really a big problem for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi fellow HP users and forum moderators, I am using a Spectre X360 purchased in Australia and currently using it in Australia. My problem is that the laptop sometimes does not wake up from sleep/hibernate. The screen is pitch black and keyboard lighting button is functional but I tried every single button on the keybpard and pressed the trackpad. Nothing happens or responds to this. Is this a software issue? HP software or Windows 10 64bit issue?Maybe a hardware like SSD playing up? My SSD is a Samsung 256GB one. The only way to make my laptop work again is to press the on/off/sleep button for 5 seconds then it would force to shutdown then I press again to boot it up. This is getting annoying. I am writing a report for university and suddenly after having a short break or so and opening my laptop the screen is black does not want to wake up. Any solution(s) to this? Thanks in advance!

I am the owner of a ThinkPad X121e - Notebook Type 3051-5QG (AMD E350 Processor). After a BIOS - Update from 1.07 to 1.16 I have a problem to wake it up from the S3 - Suspend to RAM function. The Notebook restarts and the fan is working but there is no beep and the screen stays black. There is no way to get it working except a complete hard shutdown pushing the on/off-Button.  Does anybody know the problem and has a solution? Or do I have to wait and hope for the next BIOS-Version to solve the problem? I would like to downgrade to 1.07 BIOS, but I am afraid that this is not possible.

Hi

I have win 8 installed for a few weeks now which I have been working on and off playing in a bios duel boot setup to see if I like win 8. (while keeping my win 7 setup)

Every thing has been fine until for the first time I put the computer into sleep , after I tried to wake it up the computer, started up but the screen was still in the standby state. I then had to do a reset as this was the only way I could get the computer to start.
It went through the boot process and opened to the desktop it a state which showed it had booted from a hibernation state (doc left on desk top open how I left it)
I tied a few options I had read in the forums like turning off "powercfg -H off" and rebooted. but this did not fix anything.
I tried a selective start up in misconfig like a safe mode start and this time when I went to try sleep then tried to wake the computer, the monitor at least started up from its sleep mode but was black (blank)

The win 7 x64 on the duel boot sleeps/wakes fine with no problems. I guess the only difference between them is the win 8 is installed on a SSD

any further information you need please ask

Answer:Win 8 Pro x64 After wake from sleep black (blank) screen

Just an update, Been doing a lot of searching of the internet about my problem and I was about to give in, I kept thinking it was my GPU drivers. But I was wrong

I was thinking I might have had some ideas off people from my post, but I guess without it crashing and giving a bsod it made it hard to find what was the problem.

Just to give help to anyone else reading this post I think I have found the answer . I though I had the most up to date drivers for my ACHI controller from the Asus website which where newer than what I had installed.

But once I found out that I had a Intel 5 series chipset, I found some more up to date drivers on Intel's website. Even though when I went there before and ran an online scan it did not offer any updated drivers (I guess Asus had changed them so Intel did not know them to update?)

So the moral I guess is if you think you might have up to date drivers maybe sometimes you need to keep looking, Hope this helps someone as this is a great forum.

Since a few days, I had wake up stalls (black screen) on my Z830.

Once I thought I thought it had to do with the eco utility, then maybe the Toshiba Power Saver, then possibly the function key utility. Support wrote I should reinstall from scratch (Win7pro - Win8 pro - Upgrade Assistant etc.) but since they said to get rid of the recovery partition when moving to Win8, I cannot do that so easily.

So what I did is to in place refresh Win8 pro and let the Upgrade assistant put all the Toshiba software.
The issues remain though and I can only use the computer without eco utility and function key software installed (which is sort of OK but not exactly what I expect from 6 months old system...).

To answer your first question: no, I didn't do anthing, it happend from one day to the next...

BIOS is 1.8, I also tried now some Z930 software, that doesn not seem to change anything, it is interesting though that those things work well for the most part but don't get released for the Z830...

Any hints? Thx guys, appreciate your efforts!

Answer:Black screen why wake up on Satellite Z830

Hi

Please describe your wake problems you experience.

Are you resuming from standby / hibernation or are you cold booting?

Are the symptoms related to both start-up methods (resume / coldboot)?

Are the symptoms intermittent or constant?

What do you need to do to get started to work on your unit?

Is there any pattern in the use <> symptoms?
f.ex.
- always on standby you experience this
- issues NEVER seen when cold booting
- etc

Did you install additional memory in your unit?

I purchased a new X230 tablet in August 2013.  I'm running Windows 7 64 bit ultimate, Office 2010 Pro, and all updates, Microsoft and Lenovo have been applied.  I have, or at least I believe I have, shut off the option of the screen dimming or the machine sleeping in battery mode and while plugged in.  I've noticed this since I first purchased the unit but haven't used it in tablet mode enough to worry about searching out a solution until now. My problem is when put into tablet mode, typically running OneNote, but I've also seen it occur with just the default windows screen up, after a few minutes of inactivity, the screen goes black and I've not been able to wake it back up and am forced to perform a hard shut down. I sure hope there is an easy fix for this.

Answer:X230 Tablet Black Screen Won't Wake

Oh, and I have the Gorilla glass outdoor screen model and all power management functions in the Bios are shut off. Please help, as right now tablet mode is essentially worthless as the black screen now is appearing right in the middle of writing with the stylus.  After a couple hard shut downs, the Synaptics drivers appear to be blown away and the NavPoint stops working and must have the drivers reinstalled.  Please help.....I'm missing my tablet functionality!!!  Please help.

Hello,
I thought I already had my portion of "luck" with Win 8.1 but it's not over yet.
My other two threads:
Windows 8.1 RTM installation fails on Dell XPS 1340 (Solved)
http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-h...ps-1340-a.html

Second one still not solved, I can't seem to find correct drivers or way to get both BT + Wifi working.

And now I found another problem. When I close lid of my laptop and open it again the screen is black. Nothing helps to get it out of this. I have power options set to "Do nothing" for both On battery and Plugged in.

So I press power button which sends the laptop to Sleep. Then I press it again to wake it up. And this is when I see the BSOD and laptop restarts.

In minidump I see athwnx.sys and ntoskrnl.exe reported.
athwnx.sys is driver for Dell Wireless 1515 minicard (Wifi and BT). Current driver is from Microsoft, version 3.0.1.155, dated 03/05/2013.

Attached is required info created by SF Diagnostic Tool.

I hope somebody will be able to help me resolve this.

Answer:BSOD after wake up from Sleep (+ black screen on lid open)

Where did you get your 8.1 from? If not from a legitimate Microsoft source, you may have a "remarked" version that really isn't legitimate. If that's the case, we may not even be able to fix it.

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

1 Windows Update installed. Most 8.1 systems have 26. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

D: drive only has less than 1% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

As you have noticed, the memory dumps blame athwnx.sys. This appears to be the most recent version, so a couple of possibilities exist:
- the current version could be corrupted (to test this - remove the wireless and test while on a wired connection) If so, download a fresh copy, uninstall the current version and then install the fresh version.
- the current version may not be to blame (run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: http;//www.carrona.org... Read more

Seems like ever since the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers update (I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think it's the case), my screen stays black upon being woken up from sleep or hibernation. I know it's on, and it's not a matter of the computer being slow, because it's not, and even if it were, leaving it on for many minutes and it remains blank, and the power button and keyboard and everything light up and it starts heating up, so I know it's doing something. Hitting FN-F2 for the backlight does nothing, so I don't think that's the issue. The only way to resolve it is to hold down the power button and reboot, which **bleep**ing pisses me off because sometimes I have important work up and am forced to lose it. Anyone else seeing this issue? Could it be related to the new graphics drivers, or is this something worse and hardware related? My screen seems A-OK when it comes to everything else. Thank you!

On the X1 carbon, i7 - I am having a few challenges, not sure if they are related, but I do see this WAN miniport yellow error. I am not bothered by the error popping up - but here are the challenges. 1. USB is not responsive. Using win8, and when I plug in apple devices, they do not pull up, despite a complete shut-down and start up. The USB on one side sometimes will work while the other doesn't seem to often. 2. When opening the lid to pull the computer back to wake, the screen stays black. I tried changing the 'dim the screen' in power settings to 'never' and hope that fixes it but I have a feeling it will not.  Moderator note: off-topic post moved to its own thread.  Subject edited to match content.  Was:  Re: X1 Carbon WAN Miniport (Network Monitor) #2 Code 31 Error

Hello all,

I've scheduled my PC to wake up at a certain time with vista's task scheduler, and when it wakes up, I always see black screen on my monitor instead of desktop.

If I move my mouse or type any key during a black screen, it turns back to desktop.

I've searched around the net, but I couldn't find a solution...so I've decided to ask.
I really need help on this one.

Does anyone have any solution for this?

Thank you.

Boot the computer and press F8 in the Advanced Boot menu choose Last Known Good Configuration.
What is the make and model# of the computer? Go to the manufactures support/download drivers site and download the Chipset and the Video driver for the computer.
Go to Start/Search and type powercfg.cpl. Right click the powercfg results and Run As Administrator. Click Change Plan Settings/change Advanced power settings. Reset your power settings to your liking.

Hard disk is working as well as processor ( I hear fan is working) and power indicator didn't flash red. By the way Hibernation is still alive (powercfg /h on) and hybrid sleep mode is off as it was before in power management. So I did not make any changes in BIOS and in registry.

Just have regular Vista soft upgrades. And thinking about it I?ve tried to recover system status that was before problem. No difference. I used in command line powercfg /a it shows S3 is active, S1 and S2 is not supported.

I?ve tried to change power management settings and didn't get any results. I can use hybrid sleep mode but i don?t want it. Now sleep mode means only screen is off.

Can you help me with my problem? I didn't find similar problem in forum...

PS. I turn off LAN, I haven't any updates are running and other applications. maybe some service is hunging this mode and in this case why is hibernation working?

Answer:Satellite A200-1IW doesn't wake up from sleep mode - black screen

I think the solution is easy.
You have to update the BIOS and the graphic card driver.

I read here in the forum that this must be a solution for such issues with sleep mode.

Access the Toshiba driver page and choose your notebook and Windows Vista.
Update the BIOS, then the graphic card driver.
Reboot the notebook, update the latest Vista hotfixes and reboot again.

After this procedure the notebook should run properly

Hello all. I recently received my new T540p running Windows 7. Although I probably would have qualified for receiving Windows 8 recovery media from Lenovo, I went ahead and did the upgrade myself since I had a copy of Windows 8 laying around (and because I'm impatient). I'm fairly tech-savvy and expected the process to go smoothly; boy was I wrong. I decided to write up this little guide after having a thoroughly annoying time upgrading in the hopes of saving someone else out there from the hassles I underwent.NOTE: The most troublesome part of the whole process was figuring out why the screen brightness was no longer adjustable and the display would not turn on after waking from sleep (black screen) after upgrading to Windows 8. Skip ahead to step #9 if that's the issue you're having.Step #1: Make a bootable recovery disc or USB driveThis is important in case anything goes wrong during the upgrade or you decide you despise Windows 8 and want to bring back Windows 7. The T540p comes with a recovery partition in the hard drive (like most laptops nowadays I assume) which allows you to completely wipe your computer and reset it to its original factory state (the same as when you first received your computer). This is normally done by restarting your computer and hitting the enter key to interrupt normal startup and selecting the recovery option from a menu. I wrongly assumed that I would still be able to conduct the recovery after installing Windows 8, but for some reason after ... Read more

All help appreciated

My new Windows 8 machine frequently, but not always, displays a split screen with vertical black lines after waking up. When I say split screen, I mean it appears that the screen has 'rolled' to the right, with the right third of the screen or so disappearing and rolling around to the left. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, between the two issues, it renders the machine unusable. I can just about find the restart button, but it means I'm forced into it against my will.

Graphics driver up to date. (According to windows device driver)

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro L870-17X: Vertical Black lines and split screen after wake up

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue. I think you are the first one who reports about that.
Maybe you should back-up all your data and reinstall OS using HDD recovery option.
After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again and test it if the same happen again.

For how long do you have this machine?

K430 won't boot after tyring to add another partition to hard drive, adding SSD and rebooting. Fan runs 100%, no other noises or monitor response, and keyboard F12 does not work. I rebooted about 50 times and was able to get it back up only once and reinstall windows 10, and have not been able to get it to reboot again after many tries. I have tried unsuccessfully with both drives, SSD only and HDD only, and cannot get any response. How do i get back into the system or get it to reboot successfully?

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

Since I did not get an answer here, I went ahead and ordered the machine anyway, and took a chance. It does NOT have either feature in it.

It passed my other tests, so I'm keeping it and the next computer I get will probably have both of those features, but for this one, I guess I'll live without, since the network isn't finished to the point where I could actually use it anyway yet.

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Hello,

First time posting here, so please bear with me as I attempt to upload the requested files created by the SF program instructions.

I will get a BSOD when restarting or waking from sleep. I'm in the process of getting my video card replaced via RMA from EVGA. They're sending me a GTX 460 SE. Also, I'm working on getting the PSU replaced as the voltage was showing a bit shallow in the 11.82-11.88 range according to HWMonitor. Thermaltake says it's within ATX specs but they're willing to RMA anyway. System is about 4.5 years old that I built myself.

Reckon we'll start with y'all suggesting how to resolve. I've resorted to shutting down and powering down rather than putting to sleep which seems to have stopped the BSOD that occurred during restart. I can restart without a BSOD now. SFC doesn't show anything but these 2 entries with everything else reporting OK:

Hey guys I'm experiencing a series of issues involving my windows 7 based system.

System:
Windows 7 Ultimate
Intel Core 2 Duo
4g ram
ATI radeon HD 5850
650W power supply

-My computer crashes at random times, particularly when I am either multi-tasking or playing world of warcraft. At first, I assumed it was my graphics card oveheating that was causing the problem, but seeing as having itunes and youtube open at the same time could also cause the crash, that may rule the graphics card out.

-Second, whenever I try to shut down my computer, all my hardware (mouse, keyboard, screen) turn off, but my case fans and motherboard fan continue to run. They are hooked up directly to the power supply yes, but I have never had this issue.

-When I put the computer into sleep mode, all the hardware once again turns off, but pressing my keyboard key only restarts the keyboard, the computer remains in a dead state. Note by the way that the motherboard and case fan are STILL running while in sleep mode.

I have no idea what can be causing these issues, they have only recently started up. I use to have dust issues before, but my computer is dust free at the moment. I ran speedfan and it seems that my processor temps are running up to the low 70's (celsius) while simply watching youtube videos.

I am contemplating getting a new case with better ventilation as this case has been nothing but a dust magnet and only has 2 fans.

Hi All, I have an occassional issue where upon waking my Z830, the screen will go black, the computer restarts, and I get the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen.

It only happens occassionally, but I believe with the following sequence of events:
1. Put computer to sleep by closing the lid
2. Wake computer by opening the lid

Once I restart using the "Start Windows normally" option, all is fine.

Anyone else experiencing this?? I love this laptop, so hate to think it's having any issues already!

Answer:computer crashing, restarting, won't wake up from sleep

Ouch, 70 C on low cpu usage. That is very high and pretty much stretching it. Most motherboards will shut down automatically at around 73-74 C to prevent permanent damage to CPU.

When it crashes, how does it do so. Does it bluescreen, restart, or simply turn off? If it bluescreens, grab a dump file. If it restarts, it may have bluescreened but done so too fast to see it (may or may not have dumped a file). If it turns off, you can attribute that to a power issue or to cpu overheating. With heat that high and if ambient case temp isn't high, you may have to reapply cpu fan and new thermal paste onto the cpu. Or perhaps get a new fan altogether.

As for the strange sleep/shutdown behavior, that sounds like power state problems, but I don't see what could cause such strange behavior for it. Try checking your power options in Windows 7 (Control panel) as well as seeing any power options on your BIOS. Perhaps re-seating your CMOS battery on your motherboard (the disc battery) could also help, though make sure to go back through your BIOS again to reconfigure options.

You won't find driver properties there.

Right click start and select device manager, then go to your KB and Mouse items, right click and select properties, but I've looked at mine for my laptop, and there is no power management tab there.

Are you sure it may not be asking you to check a BIOS setting for power management to allow KB/mse to wake it?

By default KB /mse should wake it with no further action.

List your laptop make, model, screenshot of device manager with what's listed for KB and mse.

Windows Vista Hybernates/Won't Wake Up without Unplugging PC and Restarting

That pretty much sums it up. The problem began last week and has gotten progressively worse. My wife would be working and suddenly the screen would go black, as if the computer was going into sleep mode. The power light stays on, but if you try to do a hard shut down (pressing and holding the power button), nothing happens. Finally, I unplugged the computer, waited about a minute and plugged it back in. It starts up fine, you can work on it again, but after awhile the problem starts all over again.

I thought it might be a Windows Update problem, so I tried to do a System Restore to the day prior to the last update, but the restore failed. I then did a Disk Check, which took several hours, and it seemed to resolve the problem. We had no issues all day on Saturday or Sunday, but this morning it started all over again. I'm at my wit's end. If anyone has any idea, they'd be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I need to have my Dell XPS 9360 on at a specific time so that my server can back it up.  I have set a wake up timer the same way I have on several other computers and it will not work.  Wake Timers cannot be enabled in "Power Options>>Change advanced power settings>>Sleep>>Allow wake timers" because the "Allow wake timers" option does not exist!
I am running the Windows 10 anniversary edition as it came from the factory.
Is there any way to get this computer to wake up, other than using the BIOS to wake it up?
Thanks!

It started a few months ago that after sleeping for a few hours it would fail to wake and have to boot up from scratch. This problem has been getting more frequent and now it sometimes simply shuts down out of nowhere. I couldn?t pinpoint any software as the cause, it?s simply random. I tried updating the BIOS and tightening all screws, but it didn?t work.

Answer:S7 191 shutdowns randomly, often fails to wake up

Shutting down without warning is usually a overheat problem. Blowing it out may not be enough. It may need to be disassembled, cleaned, and new thermal paste applied to the Processor heat sink.Failing to wake could just be a symtom.

So my computer goes to sleep mode a lot but when I try to wake up by clicking the mouse or the space bar it won't. I know the computer is still on because I can hear sounds from the screen but the monitor will not wake up too. I've turned off sleep mode, hibernation, and power saving and it still does it. I ran the energy report and it showed 14 errors. I've pasted it below. Someone please help...I can't afford to buy a new computer right now. Thanks.

I have this issue for more than a year.

I have tried many things including updating windows, updating drivers, rolling back drivers, uninstalling programs, etc. I have a sneaking suspicion it might be my Nvidia Graphics driver as that has had issues before.

Problem is when I put the computer to sleep, my monitors turn off and then randomly the pc will try to wake (probably some device triggers the wake) but then fail without displaying any info on the screen. I will then have to manually power down the pc and power on again.

I have attached the logs as per the instructions. Sincere thanks for helping with this.

Answer:Custom PC won't wake from sleep randomly

Just commiserating with you but I end up turning Sleep and Hibernate off to avoid problems such as you are seeing. I'm on my computer more frequently that most and don't need the hassle of having to reboot every time I need it.

1 day, DK how long after,  Bitdef automatically updated to Win 10, my pc wouldn't wake from sleep no matter what I tried.    All lights on except hard drive.   Have to hold power button 5 sec till lights start going out, let up, then press it again.   At 1st it would cycle thru like hard reset.  I tried so many things that I DK what changed it,  poss letting screen turn off early but lengthened sleep to 5 hrs & not allow deeper sleep,  but now when it reboots it doesn't make me sign in all over like a real start up.  It looks like it,  starts w/ Acer screen then everything loads and I don't have to log in every time now.   It was annoying due to having to login to Windows but also Bitdef, and I feel like I am damaging my pc by hard re-setting w/ power button everyday.   I wasn't able to try the Intel Managemt Component update. I can't update graphics from Acer b/c they don't offer one for my pc & Intel read my drivers & said that Acer has modified them & to get them from Acer. But I rolled back driver once to no avail and the next time I chked it,  no rollback was available & Intel is the driver that updates.   I couldn't use a restore point b/c all that was avail were 5 RP but only w/in the past few weeks,  2 or 3 were on the same day resulting from Intel.  Now device driver gets graphics updates from Intel w/ no mssgs from Intel. My built-in touch mouse stopped work... Okay, so the Lumia Cyan update finally dropped on AT&T a couple days ago. I installed it the night before last and everything was great yesterday. However, this morning I woke to find that several apps had auto-updated and now, every time I wake the phone, I get a resuming screen for a couple seconds before the lock screen appears. This is rather annoying, as it was not doing this yesterday. Anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?

I have ASUS G72.
Logmein software is able to wake the computer up with On Board Wake up is disabled or enabled in BIOS.

I have also Toshiba L505D.
Logmein software can wake the computer up only if Wake up on LAN is enabled in BIOS.

What is the difference between ASUS BIOS's On Board Wake up option and Toshiba BIOS's Wake up on LAN option?

UPDATE: I found out that ASUS's Option was for diskless boot and using network hard disks as hard disks. Nothing to do with Wake up on LAN.

Answer:Difference Between Wake up on LAN and On Board Wake up on LAN ???

One thing that could make a BIG difference here is the fact one is a PC and the other is notebook. The ATX Form Factor standard for PCs calls for the power supply to deliver +5Vsb standby voltage to various parts of the motherboard, to include the front panel power switch, RAM (for hibernate modes), and various devices (keyboard, mouse, NIC) for such "Wake on...". commands.

A notebook, however, does not have this standby voltage because obviously, it would run down the battery if the charger is not plugged in.

Over the weekend, I purchased a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and keyboard for my Inspiron 3847 PC, which is running Windows 10. While they both work great (and the keyboard has an amazing feel, BTW), I can't get either to wake the computer from sleep.
I've looked at solutions on the web and found nothing yet. Does anyone have any idea how to wake up a PC using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

Answer:Inspiron 3847 won't wake with Microsoft Bluetooth Arc Touch Mouse and Surface Keyboard

Do they connect directly to a BT card in the PC or do they use a BT>USB dongle?
Have you tried this?
Look in Device Manager for Human Interface Devices and expand the list. Double-click each HID entry and click its Power Management tab (note: not all HID entries have this tab). Uncheck the box "Allow PC to turn off..."  Reboot when all are done and see if that helps.

Hello, I have 3 HDDs on my PC. Two WDC 640 GB Blacks (manufacture date June 2009) and a 1 TB Black (manufacture date November 2009). I use the 1 TB Black for storing my documents while the two 640 GB Blacks are for OS/Apps and Scratch files respectively.

The problem is when I wake up the PC from S3 sleep mode. The 2 640 GB Blacks spin up fine and I could get to the desktop but the 1 TB Black fails to start. Has anyone had issues similar to mine? Any suggestions?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-55P-UD4PA.

Ever since I installed windows 8.1 Cyan update on my Lumia 1520,this issue of taking a long time to wake up from sleep has cropped up. When the screen goes to sleep and I press the power on button or double tap the screen to wake up, i get this message.." resuming..."" after a substantial gap of few seconds the lock screen gets displayed. This is quite irrititating and kills the very purpose of a high speed processor. This problem did not exist in the windows 8 version.
I have tried soft and hard reset both, put off the wifi, changed screens, uninstalled heavy apps etc.etc.....nothing works... help please

Answer:Why does my Nokia Lumia 1520, Windows 8.1 takes a long time to wake up?

Do you have the Live Lock Screen beta installed? That or any other lock screen app?
If so, there's a known issue with that, and a trick to fixing the "resuming" problem. First uninstall the Live Lock Screen app (or any other lock screen app), then enable Kids Corner just for a second and turn it off again. Should clear up the "Resuming..."
Other suggestions are the Cortana live tile. Remove it from your Start screen. (though I haven't had any issues with the Cortana tile myself.)

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

Hi all Previously I considered my x121e suffer from overheating issue and causes real time clock error (RTC). However, after more testing and investigation, I believe the problem is related to other hardware issues and I like to hear people opinion before sending the laptop back to Lenovo. The machine goes into suspend status either pressing the power button or closing the lid from Windows7 (clean install) without problem. However, it would wake up itself randomly, "beep" twice and screen shows RTC and CMOS checksum error. This happen more often when I am holding the machine (i.e. some movement/vibration). I wonder:- Is it the RTC battery problem, cause the RTC to wake up the machine?- Other hardware failure? The laptop has a clean OS installed/recovered. Latest 1.16 Bios installed. No USB or memory card attached. Ram replaced and not the cause. Please advise Howard

Answer:x121e randomly wake up from suspended status and real time clock error

Hello,

In my experience, reports of CMOS and clock problems indicate that the CMOS/RTC backup battery is bad almost all the time.  If you replace it and problems persist, it could be that the motherboard has a bad BIOS image loaded, in which case I would try reflashing it.

My main system has Windows7 and I have an HP Proliant Microserver with Windows Home Server 2011 (probably irrelvant) and Wake on LAN hardware. The server is "off" right now, but the LAN activity light is blinking, so the LAN card has retained power (for the W-o-L function).

Do I have all I need to wake the server from my desktop, or do I need to install extra software (to send the "magic packet", to wake the server). If I need 3rd party software, then what is recommended?

I've tinkered with WoL during my professional IT career, but never really had much serious use for it, but now I have systems of my own, I'm more interested in getting it working.

Answer:Wake server with Wake on LAN

It has been a long time since I played with WoL. You might already have what you need to send that "magic packet", but this little 3rd party tool might be easier to use:
