Question: Carbon X1 SIM card not detected (Sierra EM7345 WWA...

Dear All, I have a X1 Carbon with Sierra EM7345 WWAN modem. It is all installed perfectly - drivers etc. But id does not recognize the SIM card. I have googled a bit and I can say that:1) I have the drivers OK, I have the WWAN network adapter etc.2) I have inserted the SIM card correctly The SIM card works perferctly if I use the USB 3G stick instead. So the problem is not in the SIM card.I think there is some configuraiton of the Sierra modem which should be done - to switch to 3G/2G or something. Please help - one of the main reasons to buy this laptop was the embedded WWAN. Thanks. Here are some screenshots with the config:

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows just updated again and now my LTE wireless card no longer works.  In the device manager the Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE hardware has an exclamation mark and the device status lists. This device cannot start. (Code 10){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful. I tried updating to the latest driverfrom July, but to no luck.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS040771?LinkTrack=Solr I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, but no change.  It seems to prefer the "Generic Mobile Broadband Adapter" driver from Microsoft when I try to update. Any suggestions?

Hi Support, I would like to change a setting, so that the Sierra Wireless Adapter only connects to 4G networks. In Windows 10, I cannot see anywhere where I can easily set this. I would expect there to be mobile management software where these settings could be changed. I never want to connects to GPRS, and would like my Sierra Wireless mobile card to only connect to 4G or not connect at all. This would prevent the card dropping down to GPRS when the signal is temporarily weak and force it it to try for a 4G connection. I have had similar functionality on prior USB mobile data cards I.e. Vodafone, and hence the expectation that there would be similar settings on the Sierra Wireless. Thank you, George

Just my 2cents, but have you tried putting the SIM in a regular handphone/cell phone?  Sometimes, some carriers may require you to "activate" the SIM.  You may also need to put in APN, etc information in the "Advanced Options".

Answer:X1 Carbon - Driver Sierra Wireless EM7345 ?

Hi, jkuengWhat's the OS installed on your laptop? For win8/8.1 there are no needs for drivers if the card is in MBIM mode. It must work natively in OS. Let's check it. Look at the Device Manager, open Network Adapters item. You should see something with AiarCard. Open Properties, Details tab, pull down Options list, find out an item Compatible ID. Looks like USB\Class_xx&SubClass_xx&Prot_xx). Copy the values and past here. Will look.

Also, could you, please, post here USB IDs of this card? Find it at the same list under Hardware ID item (looks like VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx).

Hello everyone, I'm a bit desperate because I already tried so much.I'm running Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo X240, BIOS version 2.3 and the WWAN functionality broke about two weeks ago and I'm quite sure that this is related to a few updates that came either with Windows or more likely with Lenovo System Update which had a BIOS update and some driver updates alongside at that time.I cannot even try to establish a connection to the Deutsche Telekom LTE network, because all I'm seeing is "Insert a SIM" in the connection bar. This is what I tried so far:Use a different, well known working SIM card.Re-Install the driver packageUninstall and re-install the driver packageuse the "repair" function of the driver package setupBIOS downgrade from 2.3 to 2.29Disable and enable the WWAN functionality in the BIOSReplace the mainboard (lenovo service technician just went away an hour ago)And I'm still having the same issue. Now it's really nailed down to be either the BIOS or the driver in win 8.1 x64. One thing makes me wonder:When I choose to update the driver in the device manager and the Sierra card details, I'm pointing Windows direclty to the directory that contains the inf files and the device manager tells me that "The best driver software for your device is already installed." and shows me a "Generic Mobile Broadband Adapter". Is this an indicator for Windows completely ignoring all drivers in the setup directory of the driver package? Also, when I lookup the driver details, i... Read more

Hello! I have a T450s with a Sierra EM7345. After a vanilla installation of Windows 10 and Update 1607 I don't get a stable connection with 3G/HDSPA/LTE to O2 with this card. I have used the latest drivers 2.25.10910 and software 2.21.10890. The card shows firmware FIH7160_V1.2_WW_01.1528.04. Energy-Option is set to maximum performance. The connection to O2 is established very quickly, but I have a plenty of time-outs over this card.Does anybody have the same problem or has a solution? Thanks Axel

WARNING!!! The instructions in this post are applicable only to EM7345 installed in Lenovo laptops!! For example, models T440, X240, X1 Carbon 2nd and 3rd gen, X250. For tablets or other devices don?t use the firmware given in this post, you can brick your EM7345! Unfortunately, the default factory EM7345 firmware version  (1.1) has some bugs. For example, after connecting to a LTE network and then disconnecting manually, the network status of the connection was changing for me to ?No service? until device restart. Also, the device often disappears from Device Manager and reappears there with the name ?1 CDC? and does not work until you disable and then enable it again in Device Manager. All those issues are caused by some bugs in EM7345 firmware. But there is a newer version of firmware, namely 1.2, where the above bugs are fixed. But by default, you cannot flash it, because firmware updating is supposed to work unattended. And this is not nice of Intel and Lenovo. The users must be able to do firmware updating when they need or want it! Bad, bad Lenovo, very bad! Here?s the instructions of how to flash your EM7345 to the latest version:Make sure you?re using Windows 8 or 8.1Go to the control panel and uninstall Sierra Wireless EM734x 4G LTE Software from Program and Features.Reboot your laptop.Download and install the latest EM7345 driver package from the Lenovo website. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-l... How to flash the firmware of the sierra wireless em7345 on windows 10 ?  Its not possible through the steps i could find which was only for widnows 8.

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 windows 10

HiOnce the modem drivers are installed, including Intel flash tool, and the sim card inserted, during laptop cold start the flash service checks out whether newer firmware is available according to current modem fw and the sim card data (more clearly, cellular operator MCC/MNC values), and performs the flashing process if it's needed, in auto mode. You should see appropriate notification from the flash service in the system tray.

I am using the EM7345 in my X1 carbon 2014 on a daily basis. It works flawlessly with my local 4G SIM. (No need for APN settings)I went to Spain for a week and tried 2 different providers: Labara and Hits mobile. They are both guesting in Vodaphone's network. In the network connection dialog they both indicate Vodaphone ES with an additional roaming indicator. When trying to connect they both ask for an APN string: gprsmov.lebaramobile.espc.hitsmobile.es After clicking connect it takes like no time till it says "cannot connect," I wonder,Windows bug? If I have understand correctly EM7345 is made specifically for Lenovo based on their requirements and specifications. Lenovo is also responsible for this firmware....on Carbon X1 etc...   I found an interesting AT command for Sierra Wireless EM7345. The command is ?AT+XCIQ?. There?s the following text string in EM7345 firmware file (it is present in any version so far): +XCIQ CIQ: Carrier IQ enable/disable.Let?s try to get ?help? about this command:  AT+XCIQ=? +XCIQ: (0-1) OK1234AT+XCIQ=?+XCIQ: (0-1) OKSo, we can suppose that 0 disables this Carrier IQ feature, and 1 enables it.Let?s read the current setting of this feature: AT+XCIQ? +XCIQ: 1 OK1234AT+XCIQ?+XCIQ: 1 OKLooks like it?s on by default. Let?s try to switch it off?NOTE: If you?re running firmware earlier than 1522.02, don?t enter the following command! If we try to enter: AT+XCIQ=01AT+XCIQ=0i.e try to disable Carrier IQ, EM7345 will have a fatal crash and reboot into boot flashing mode and it will be stuck there for good. So, Carrier IQ is always on and if you try to turn it off using the above AT command, that will kill the device! With firmware version 1522.02, AT+XCIQ=0 returns OK and there?s no fatal crash like in previous firmware versions. Also AT+XCIQ now accepts 3 possible values with 1522.02 firmware: AT+XCIQ=? +XCIQ: (0-2) OK1234AT+XCIQ=?+XCIQ: (0-2) OKSo, 0 must be disable, 1 enable, and what is 2? Hi , I have updated to the 1607 Anniversary Update in August and noticed that my WWAN Sierra Wireless EM7345 had problems starting up after reboot. Because of other problems with the 1607 I reverted back to 1511 and everything was alright again.A week ago I upgraded again to 1607 and again, my WWAN sometimes cannot start when booting up. The error log shows Miniport Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE, {b343453c-24e6-493d-ba47-33eaec4de5e3}, had event Fatal error: The miniport has detected an internal error (details see below). So this clearly has to do something with the 1607 update or the drivers for the WWAN. I am using the latest drivers from the Lenovo website and have also tried to update drivers in device manager. But no luck. What helps to finally start the WWAN is either a reboot (the chances the WWAN is started properly are about fifty-fifty) or clicking WWAN off and on in flight mode options of Windows.  Maybe someone has an idea other than waiting for Microsoft to fix this stupid 1607? Thanks and best regards,Martin  Log Name:      SystemSource:        Microsoft-Windows-NDISDate:          10.10.2016 06:37:19Event ID:      10317Task Category: PnPLevel:         ErrorKeywords:      (16384),(16),(4),(2)User:      ... Hi all,I've really been helped by this forum in the past, and really hope you can help with this issue.I've installed the card and installed the driver - all of which has gone down without a hitch. The compute recognises the card with no issues. Unfortunately, however, when a simcard is inserted it does not register the simcard whatsoever - 'Insert sim' is still present. In my searches on this forum it seems this problem is Windows 10 specific - the system does recognise the wireless card but does not recognise the simcard reader. Anecdotally, it seems to work for others when using Windows 7 (although that wouldn't be a fantastic solution in my situation.)Is there any solution for this?Thank you in advance for your time and any responses!Jack

Hello, jraynerwin10 doesn't need wwan card's manufacturer drivers for the normal mobile connection, it has a native support that. Additional drivers are needed for the legacy location features via NMEA port, for the custom wwan card virtual devices configuration (like NDIS port etc). So, the 1st thought modem firmware is outdated. Check it out:open command prompt window (cmd) and type in the following stringnetsh mbn sh cap int=*Copy and past an output here (remove Device ID for your privacy).Another version is connection settings, APN mainly. Do you see a cellular network item in the win10 network settings?Anyway, I hope mobile device em7345 is present in the Device Manager w/out errors.

It came with the laptop, so I'm sure it's supposed to be compatibile. I think it's a driver compatibility problem. Unfortunately, I've just chalked it up to the "Windows/Lenovo" tax - some things work, others just don't. HelloI got a totally new T450s with Windows 7 preinstalled. I did immediately an updgrade to Windows 10. Now the Sierra cellular modem is not working properly after inserting a SIM card (which works fine on another laptop). It says "Cellular No Service". The driver that is installed is "generic mobile broadband adapter" and not the Sierra Driver. I downloaded the lates Sierra Driver from the Lenovo website and installed it. Without success, it always installs the "generic mobile broadband adapter".Anyone any idea? ThanksAlexander Avidan

Answer:t450s Sierra Wireless EM7345 not working after upgrade to Windows 10

Welcome, Alexander Do you see broadband item on the cellular settings pane? The most likely cause of issue is APN setting missing in the connection profile. What is your operator name and what profile settings do you see?Win10 doesn't need modem manufacturer drivers for broadband access only, it uses built-in drivers. Also, there are default connection profile settings in the OS. If your operator is missing in that base or connection profile settings differ, you should edit profile on the cellular pane under administrative privileges.Anyway, I'm not sure em7345 modem in the Device Manager's "Network adapters" category in the win10 with OS built-in drivers installed should look like "generic mobile broadband adapter".

I have a T440 with Sierra LTE. It works just fine for connecting to mobile networks. But here in New Zealand, one of our providers also provides free wifi hotspots to customers on certain plans. In order to use this though, I have to enter a password that is sent to me by SMS.Is there any way that I can view SMS messages sent to the SIM card that is inside my laptop? At the moment, I have to remove the SIM from my ThinkPad (with all the hassle that involves), stick it into my phone, get the password, then transfer the SIM card back into my ThinkPad (and often as not, there is no power socket nearby, so I can't restart because I had to disable the internal battery when removing/replacing the SIM card). So, if someone can point to a way that I can simply view those SMS messages on my ThinkPad, I will be enernally grateful.

I upgraded my Helix Gen 2 to Windows 10 with few problems except for the Sierra WWAN interface to Windows 10 settings. The cellular button on the wireless menu is greyed out and the cellular option page in settings shows no devices. The adapter setting shows the adapter, and on the Settings, Network & Internet , Airplane mode page show both Mobile broadband and Wi-Fi buttons. WWAN can be enabled by truning off Wi-Fi and turning on Mobile broadband on Airplane Mode settings page. With these settings, I can connect to WWAN Verizon and get to internet but:1. Settings, Network & Internet , Cellular shows no connections2. Wireless pop up menu shows Cellular and Mobile Hotspot greyed out. So, in summary, I can connect to WWAN, but only via Settings, Network & Internet , Airplane mode page using proceedure above. By the way, my upgrade to Win 10, switched on the rotation lock, but I was able to fix that in Win 10 settings in table mode.

Hi there, I have a W541 with Sierra EM7345.I had and now have a lot of problems with the WWAN-Card, and more like you can read here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/W540-Freeze-on-boot-screen-when-connecte... And now i cannot reinstall the driver because it's not supported for Windows 7 x64 any more:Sierra Wireless EM7345 Software for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad Now I have supported hardware with no driver available?!

Answer:ThinkPad W541 no driver Win7x64 support for Sierra EM7345 any more?

Hi aschulte,

If you have a W541 then you need the driver for the EM7355 card; that's what should be in the system unless the parts list and psref are mistaken.

What is the impact on battery (Windows and Linux)?6. Is AliExpress a good place to buy? Thankyou

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

After installing Windows Fall creators update 1709 my Sierra EM7345 almost doesn't work. When I establish the connection everything works fine, but only for 15-30 seconds, then connection goes away. Ping 8.8.8.8 starts throwing error: General failure. I tried installing newest driver from lenovo support, but situation hasn't changed. Driver properties screenshot attached.

Hi!I have a Thinkpad X220 with the BIOS whitelist removed. I just installed a Sierra Wireless MC7304. After installing the drivers from TechShip, the card is recognized as well as the inserted SIM card. However, it says "turned off" and I can't get it to turn on.Now, I have one more detail to share. The built-in SIM card holder on my X220 got broken previously due to a NANO sim adapter trashing the connectors. With a SIM in this slot, it doesn't get recognized. To get around this problem, I have installed a SIM Card adapter for mini PCI Express modules (https://techship.com/products/sim-card-adapter-for-mini-pci-express-modules/). With this fitted to the WWAN card, the SIM gets recognized. However, I see two Cellular connections (see attached screenshot). In device manager, I also have 3 Sierra Wireless network adapters.I assume I should disable some of these adapters to get this working by looking at hardware IDs. Any idea how to identify and diable the adapter coming from the broken sim card slot?

Hello.I just received my X1 Carbon gen. 4 laptop with a factory installed Sierra Wireless EM7455 WWAN card and provisioned with Windows 7.  Unfortunately, I have a very persistent and annoying problem. Almost every time it resumes from hibernate mode the WWAN card device fails to restart---the Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A QDLoader Port has an error: "This device cannot start. I have just taken delivery of a B50-30 All in One and it doesn't recognise my Telstra 4G Broadband Modem Device which plugs into a USB port and imports a Connection Manager which then initiates connection to the internet.. Although the machine makes  a tingle when the modem is plugged in (have tried all different USB ports) - this would seem to indicate that it recognises a new device - the Connection Manager icon doesn't pop up. The modem User Guide says it can be loaded manually by finding and clicking on the file "setup.exe". Couldn't find this file even though there is virtually nothing on this brand new computer. Any help appreciated.

I have an x131e laptop that I recently added a Sierra wireless data card to.  It has been setup for use with verizon.  When I access the software to use with the card " Vzaccess" , it recognizes the card model but tells me it is not inserted.  I tried using the Thinkpad Access Connections , that seems to work and allows me to access the web.  The problem is that the software we use to transfer data uses the vz access in order to transmit.  I downloaded the correct drivers from Lenovo's website and am using the correct vz access software from verizon.  I am wondering how I can get the software to recognize the card?  It says on verizons website that only one connection manager may be present, either vzaccess or access connections.  Just wondering why I can get it to work with one and not the other.  Any help would be most appreciated. thanks

Has anyone been able to get that working? Does anyone else have this card and also have problems?

Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problem...
It seems that the PCI to USB Hub drivers of the IBM hardware is not compatible with Windows 7 system. I think the solution is replacing the card or wait to October 22nd hopefully it will be resolved with the offical version.
If you found any other solution I'd love to hear,

I have a T23 that is not the wireless model. I have no intention of dismantling it to install any internal wireless gizmo's, so I am considering 2 options... 1. Sierra GSM PCMCIA 2. ZTE USB Broadband GSM Stick I have just purchased a GSM data plan from an ISP but I am confused over what hardware is best for the T23. I am concerned about the power pull on the T23, but not sure if I should be. Also, would there be a performance difference that I should consider, re: USB versus PCMCIA solution? NB: My T23 has USB 1.1 ports, but I own a Sabrent USB 2.0 card bus...if this helps with the recommendation.

Answer:T23 USB Dongle or PCMCIA Sierra Card

Well nobody seemed interested in helping me out on this, so I decided to take a chance with a USB dongle (Rogers Rocket stick). On the Sabrent USB 2 card, the dongle did not work.On the T23  USB 1.1, the dongle worked but it was not happy there. Slow response times when on the internet.Got a Sierra 881 PCMCIA card (cheap now) and it worked great. Better than the dongle by far and the Watcher software that comes with the Sierra is far superior to the Rogers Communication Manager. So anyone looking to using an old T series on the new Rogers Hi-speed GSM network, the Sierra would be my recommendation.   I use the dongle on my desktop and it works very well there.

I have an X1 Yoga 20FQ with Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit and a Sierra Wireless EM7455 WAN card that came with the unit from Lenovo and an AT&T micro SIM card (also in the unit when it came from Lenovo). I also have the latest Lenovo software for the Sierra Wireless card (v. 7.47.4743.0105) from the Lenovo web site. The WAN card will connect to HPSA on AT&T (using the "default APN" and "broadband" in the Win 10 settings) but it will not connect to AT&T LTE. The AT&T web site at https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1218316 says to use NXTGENPHONE as the APN, but when I input that as the APN the card does not see it at all. I know that NXTGENPHONE is the LTE APN because that is the APN that my cell phone uses for its LTE data connection. AT&T tech support told me I the Windows 10 and NXTGENPHONE APN settings are correct and the AT&T diagnostics show I an LTE connection is available to me.I realize that there can be sources for this problem (Win 10 or AT&T) but I thought I would ask here to see whether anyone has experienced the problem or has a solution.Thanks.

I am planning to buy Lenovo X300 and use in Thailand. Does anyone know about the different of the 2 WWAN modules.Sierra Wireless MC8775 and Lenovo FRU 41T0901. From what I knoiw the Sierra make the module for Lenovo. Is the two things exactly the same (it look the same) or the Lenovo has the FRU embedded on the card ?I am affraid of having problem with BIOS if I install the module that I buy direct from Sierra.

Answer:WWAN card 3G Lenovo branded or Sierra Wireless

Hello,I have done some deep research on this matter for myself, I have an x61 and would like to swap the factory installed wwan card with a gsm card by Sierra but not with Lenovo FRU. The Thinkpad bios will not accept parts other than the ones approved by lenovo and on which there is lenovo FRU#, even if from the same manufacturer, the "Whitelist" is here:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62906 if you would install a generic part non lenovo approved, the bios will not boot the system, give you an error message  and tell you to remove the card. There is a solution for this issue, it can be found here:  http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=55837&start=300 but it involves flashing your machine with a modified bios which could be risky. I am going to try it because my preinstalled wwan card is for services by Vrison in the USA, I need a GSM card for Europe and other locations with GSM providers only, I will remove the original which is useless for me and replace it with a non Lenovo Sierra MC8775 WWAN HSDPA 3G card and flash the bios. Hope this helps Message Edited by pandavi on 01-28-2009 12:55 AM

My X1 Carbon (model 20A7, 2nd generation I believe) suddenly stopped detecting closure of the lid.  Previously, when I close the lid, it would put the laptop into Sleep but now it just continues running.  I checked the Control Panels setting and it is still setup to go into Sleep when lid closure is detected so it seems it is smply not detecting it.   In addition, I often work with this machine docked and previously when it was docked, it would not use the attached LCD screen but would only display on the two monitors I have attched to the Lenovo docking station.  Now, when I power up hte laptop on the docking station, it displays one monitor on the laptop LCD even though the lid is closed and only on one of the monitors attached to the docking station.  I fix this by going into the Control Panel -> Display where I know see three monitors (two external and once LCD on the laptop) and I can disable it from there, but I shouldn't have to do this everytime I dock.   I don't see any mechanical switches to detect lid closure so it must be a magnetic detetion.  Any ideas on how to diagnose this? Thanks,Matt

I bought two brand new X270's WWAN upgradable and bought EM7455 cards separately. I installed the cards as directed. I have a T61 and I've successfully physically plugged in the internal EVDO card, but the antenna cables are no where to be found per the instructions.  I ordered the Lenovo EVDO card, the only thing in the static bag was the EVDO card (and a few stickers with the card's ESN info). Unless I missed a creative location for these cables, is there another part I need to order?  If so, what is the part number, and where are the installation instructions? Many thanks for your time and effort to help me resolve this. Thanks.

Answer:T61 - Adding Sierra Wireless EVDO WWAN Card (Cellular Data)

Lds, Yes, you will need to order the antenna which comes with the cable + connector attached.  The antenna is located in the lid along with the LCD display panel and WiFi/BlueTooth/WUSB antenna(s) and other various other components. Installation is another subject, which I don't have enough experience to comment on. I happened to purchase the WUSB option for my T61p but have not installed it yet. I had to buy both the card and the antenna. Good luck. CobraRGuy

Help! I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen (model 20HRC) that's about three months old. I've successfully used it with an Anker USB 3.0 hub that offers an Ethernet port and three USB 2.0 ports. After upgrading to Windows 10 build 1709 in October, the Anker Ethernet connection is no longer detected when I insert the USB C connctor. Neither port works. If I put a USB memory key into the Anker hub, it is not recognized, either. The same USB memory key is recognized if I insert it into the USB 2.0 connector on the right hand side of the laptop. When I connect my phone to the USB C connector, it is not recognized, either. The Anker USB Hub and my phone are both recognized when I connect them to my other laptop, so I have no reason to believe they're defective. Before I call Lenovo for support, what else can I check?

We received 2 brand new X1 Carbon (type 20A7) models and neither have been able to detect the Gobi 5000 WWAN card (Sierra Wireless EM7355, Lenovo Part# 0C52902.)  The X1 Carbon's are running the latest drivers (including BIOS update), Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1- it doesn't matter: They will not detect the WWAN card in the WWAN slot. Tried 2 different WWAN cards straight out of the box from Lenovo (these happen to be the Verizon variants, I don't have any AT&T ones handy) and it's like it doesn't even exist. Yet I can remove either Gobi 5000 card and install it into a T440s and it comes up without any issue. I've tried taking a working and activated Gobi 5000 card out of a T440s and putting it into the X1 Carbon, yet the X1 Carbon refuses to recognize the device exists in Device Manager. I spent about an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support who ultimately told me my question was "Out of scope" and something they would not handle. The tech even agreed with my frustration that it's listed right on the **bleep** Lenovo product site: "Mobil [sic] Broadband: Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000" and couldn't explain why A) It wasn't working orB) Why Lenovo feels a feature listed on their own marketing materials was "out of scope" for support. She also confirmed the part number is exactly the same and the T440s and the X1 Carbon use the identical part. The tech ultimately speculated that some type of magical "system board upgrade"... Hi, The SD card reader in my laptop is not working. I have a Carbon X1 laptop (machine type 3443CT0) running a fresh install on Windows 7, 64-bit Ultimate edition. This is not the Win7 image that comes with the laptop, but rather a fresh installation of vanilla Windows 7 ultimate from a Microsoft DVD. I installed all of the relavent drivers for this machine from Lenovo's drivers page:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT074689 Under the "Camera and Card Reader" category, I installed: Media Card Reader Driver for Windows 7, version 2.14.18.01, released Aug 13, 2012. The installer seemed to finish successfully and asked for a laptop reboot. However, the SD Card reader is still not working. Under Device Manager, in the "Other devices" category, I see "Base System Device" listed with missing drivers. Under the details tab of that item, I choose "Hardware Ids" under property. The vendor ID is 1180 (for Ricoh) and the Device ID is E822. By searching the pcidatabase.com website (below), I found out that this is the "Ricoh PCIe SD/MMC Host Controller" http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_details.php?id=1648  Are other people having problems with installing this driver? I also tried the Windows 8 64-bit driver, just in case and that is not working either. The SD Card reader works under Linux, but not under Windows 7, so I'm pretty sure it's a device driver issue, not a hardware iss... First off - warranty is out apparently.  Even though I remember checking the box for a 2 year extension, I am now being told I didn't and that I am SOL.  So that's one thing I'll deal with later...When trying to access the BIOS, I would only see a black screen.  I tried hooking an external monitor up to it, nothing, the monitor doesnt register until after the initial boot sequence. I then figured something must be up with the BIOS.  Went to Lenovo.com and found the updates, updated the BIOS along with everything else.  Still broken.    So I opened the bottom, disconnected the battery and the CMOS battery, held down the reset button on the motherboard for 10-15 seconds, did the same for the power button.  Put it all back together.  Hit the power button, see the Lenovo logo and then: System Security:  Bottom Cover Tamper DetectedSo now I am assuming it is asking for the password and the date, but the screen is blank.  I am now left with a completely bricked computer.  Whats even more awesome is that I noticed this when I was trying to fix the suddenly inoperable fingerprint scanner, tried updating the drivers/uninstalling/reinstalling/etc, then I was going into the BIOS to make sure it was setup properly in there....and thats when I noticied the BIOS only provided a black screen. The diagnostics screen did work before I opened the bottom cover, I ran a full diagnostic on everything anf found no... Can anyone say if I purchased the Sierra em7345 card for my x1 Carbon, which carrier (in USA) will I have to get a service plan with? Can It work with any carrier?

Answer:X1 Carbon 3rd Gen WWAN Card

HelloIt's simpler to answer about carrier and access mode (LTE, 3g) you prefer as this modem supports dozen of the US operators as well doesn't support a big part of them, including market leaders like Sprint, or supports partially (i.e.not every frequency band the carrier operates in). Also, not every operator's network covers entire US area.

Hello, genealogyxieYou are right, only Sierra em7345 (LTE/3g) and Ericsson n5321 (3g) wwan modems are compatible with x1c gen3. Note, they must have Lenovo FRU p/n, 04X6014 and 04W3842, respectively.em7355 (Gobi 5000) isn't in the compatibility list.

Answer:X1 Carbon 3G SIM Card problem

Hi, rickycrc

Can you please take a screenshot of Device Manager? This will allow the community to see what the hardware configuration of your machine is. Did your X1 Carbon come with a WWAN card installed so that it can connect to mobile networks? Also, when posting the screenshot of Device Manager, please have the tree for Network Adapters open so we can see all the network adapters in your machine.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

How can I add a wireless card to the Carbon X1?  The original answer was "can't be done" becuase the computer is a sealed case and has no capability for it.  I call BS!!  The computer obviously has a slot for it, a Sim card holder, and the option to order it from the factory with wireless.  How to add wireless to a non-wireless Carbon X1?

Moderator note: edited subject to match content.  Was:  Docking stations for X1 Carbon.

Answer:X1 Carbon: add WWAN card

You don't say which generation X1C you have, but AFAIK you can add a WWAN card.  Instructions are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your particular model.

The challenge will be antennas if they aren't already installed, and finding a card that passes the BIOS whitelist.

This isn't something I can address in detail, but if you'll list your MT-M - like 20FB002SUS as an example of a WWAN-upgradable unit - others will probably be able to help.  (Upgradable means that the antennas are already in place.)

I believe the WAN card in the X1 Carbon is the Ericsson H5321gw - from what I can tell that card only supports 3G (see http://www.techship.se/products/ericsson-h5321gw-101/). It seems foolish (and frustrating) that Lenovo would only put a 3G card in the X1 Carbon. At the least it should have been an option as to which carrier/service you wanted. bert

So I've read many comments regarding the X1 Carbon 2015 models SD Card Reader missing. Or is it missing really? Also many people compared it to the Macbook Pro and pointed out that it still has one. The way I see it, the Apple solution has a card reader because that is a big convenience for some of the target audience of that machine. As you might know cameras and such store their data on cards and people who use cameras alot tend to prefer Macbook Pro more so than any ultrabook (or even Macbook Air for that matter) due to some extra horsepower in case they do video or photo editing etc. It needs to be portable, last long on batteries and have a little punch. So few ultrabooks have this and in such a premium package and that is why it is popular. I have a similar reason to look at X1 Carbon, it is portable and now with 5th gen even more powerful with a 1440p screen and premium build. I don't care about MacOS so I ruled out the Macbook and that leaves me with very few options in terms of powerful ultrabook-ish solutions one of which is X1 Carbon. I might opt for a Razer Blade 2015 refresh if it becomes available soon due to similar reasons and I don't even require the extra gaming power as this will be my work laptop. (I am a self employed programmer) I think outside of testing once or twice, I have never ever used the SD Card readers on the laptops I owned. Most, no sorry ALL of the devices that use a card as storage, also provide means to connec... Read more

Answer:X1 Carbon 2015 - About SD Card Reader

I find the whining bizarre and ridiculous-and if you actually look, the overwhelming majority of posts about it are from one or two individuals. They just make so many posts that it seems like an issue. It's not. Most people never use it. I know I haven't. This is just the classic case of internet amplification.  As you mention, removing the card vs. connecting a USB cable? seems like a no-brainer. As far as trading it for an HDMI port? I'm all for that, since I use an HDMI cable almost every day to run an external monitor. If one really needs an SD card reader, the new XPS13 looks like a great option. I'm too wedded to the trackpoint and Lenovo keyboard personally, but otherwise it looks like a great machine.

Since a few weeks ago I have several BSOD's especially when I am launching games.I have updated all the possible drivers from the lenovo website and also from the Intel website. I also updated the BIOS.I scanned the pc with sfc / scannow and it found a corrupted file, namely Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB. I fixed it withDISM, run sfc again and no error found after that.I scanned for malware and viruses but nothing has been found.I scanned the memory with memtest86 at least 3 times but no problems found.I scanned the system with the lenovo diagnostic tools, built on a bootable usb driver and nothing has been found.I cleaned the registry with CCleaner. I still have BSOD (I can upload the windows minidump if you want). The only test so far which triggers a BSOD is Furmark. So now I am starting to think that there is an hardware problem with my graphic card. Since the system is unfortunately out of warranty, is it still possible to remove the graphic card and replace it with another one or is it integrated with the motherboard in which case I have to replace also that?  my specs are:X1 Lenovo Carbon, model 20A7OS - Windows 8.1 x64 Age of system (hardware) 1 year and 3 months CPU Intel i7 4600 U , 2.10 Ghz Video Card  Intel Hd Graphics Family thanks

Answer:faulty graphic card in X1 Carbon

hi, sorry if I reply to my own 3d, but I am still experiencing the same problems here...could it be related to a GPU Power problem, in the sense that the GPU does not receive enough power or something like that? btw: in the meantime I refreshed my windows 8.1 OS, updated from scratch all the possible drivers from Windows update and from the Lenovo website. I tried today to change the amount of RAM dedicated to the video card in the BIOS: it was 256 Mb (but in the Advanced settings in Screen Resolution, I have:Total Availabel Graphic Memory: 1920 MbDedicated video memory: 128 MbSystem Video memory 0 MbShared system memory 1792 Mb) and I changed it to 512 Mb. After I selected Exit Saving Changes, the system was not able to reboot itself and I had to hold the power button to shut it down (only the light was on). Similarly when I changed it back to 512 Mb: I had to force the system to shut down and then turn it on again. Is this behaviour normal?

Question: T440s with EM7345

I've got a T440s running windows 7 with a em7345 4g mobile module installed, the drivers install correctly and it recongnises the sim but fails to find the network (upon trouble shooting the connection windows suggests that there is no signal, however my phone uses the same network so I know this to not be the case). My best guess so far is that it's either something to do with the apn settings (I'm based in the UK and use the giffgaff mobile network which does require apn settings to be set) or there's an issue with the antena. No connection shows up in the VAN UI. Anyone with any ideas about how I could go about testing either of those things?

Hi Guys,So using EM7345 - I was using 1415.09 firmware which seems to have really good download/upload speeds but seems to loose the connection every now and again Switched to 1442.11 which is new firmware for my carrier (EE UK) in the UK just pushed with the latest driver but the download speeds have taken a hit, not sure if its more stable.Anyway what are you lot doing firmware wise ? Are you changing it ? If so what firmware are you using ? There's a new 15XX variant in the new driver release but it says NAND so guessing North America market - that said seems to work fine on my modem anyway. Let me know

Answer:EM7345 Firmware - Best One ?

the lastest firmware is 1.2.. and here are the AT main secret programming codes and commands...(I do not want ...etc..publish more secret codes etc..do not ask for more..)..because they are too dangerous etc..to change the commands etc..use this software..PuTTYhttp://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html AT commands are very helpful for troubleshooting your device and changing the settings that are not available from standard Windows settings. For example, you can choose the access technology ? 2G, 3G, 4G and even stick to particular frequency bands.EM7345 is using Intel (formerly Infineon) AT command set and it?s not compatible with Quallcomm AT command set. All basic AT commands like AT+CFUN are more or less the same for all 3G/4G devices, but advanced ones, starting from AT+X, are unique to Intel XMM platform devices. No official documentation for AT commands was released by Intel, all I was able to find is some source code fragments for Samsung phones (that are based on the earlier XMM platform, like XMM 6380, or so)  on GitHub.To use AT commands, first you have to enable EM7345 AT command port, There are many cases when your newly installed EM7345 doesn?t work. Let?s start step by step.AT+CFUN?should return: +CFUN: 1,01 means the device is turned on. If it?s not 1, make sure your EM7345 is turned on in Windows Connection Manager. Or try to turn it on using the AT command:AT+CFUN=1Let?s check if the SIM card is working and recognize... Read more

Hi all. I am new to this forum, so I hope I don't break any rules.I have 2 questions about the Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen4 for you all; 1. Has anyone here successfully installed an operating system with legacy boot on an SD-card in the card-slot without touching the internal SSD:s boot block, and then be able to actually boot directly from it? In other words making it bootable only if you interrupt the boot sequence and manually choose another boot device.2. Will the SD-card reader handle the relatively new 256GB capacity microSD-cards? Can anyone confirm? I am aware it can handle the new UHS-II rated low voltage cards, but I am unsure about the maximum storage capacity. Any input on these matters will be greatly appreciated. I am having a hard time getting answers out of my buddy google on these issues. Cheers!

On my X1 Carbon G4, when I insert a microsd card, it no longer clicks.  Are there any quick do-it yourself fixes?  I'm hesitent to do a depot repair because of the time and hassle. My current workaround is that I insert the card and close the cover on top of the card, the cover is barely strong enough to keep the card in place.  I don't use the slot often so the workaround is ok.  If I ever wanted to use it for an extended period of time, I would not trust this workaround.
