I want Windows 10 Sign-in Screen to show which users are signed in

Question: I want Windows 10 Sign-in Screen to show which users are signed in

Hi, everyone...

I'm trying to find a registry hack or something to address the change Microsoft made going from Windows 8.x to Windows 10.

Here is a quick run-down of what Microsoft changed:

My wife and I have 4 children. One of our PCs is used by all of the children. There are 5 Microsoft accounts set up on that PC, one for each of the children plus one that I have set up as the Admin account.

Windows 8.x indicated on the Sign-in Screen which users were already logged/signed in. So, if the Sign-in Screen was displayed, you could see right there if anyone was signed into their account. For example, if 2 of the 5 accounts on our PC were already signed in, then right there on the Sign-in Screen below the picture and name of those 2 users that are already signed in, it says "Signed in" for each of those 2 users. You know right there at the Sign-in Screen if anyone is already signed in that might need to sign out before a restart or shutdown.

Windows 10 removed this information/indication. If you are already signed into an account, then you can look and see which users (if any) are signed in and there is no guesswork needed. However, if you are at the Sign-in Screen and want to restart or shutdown the PC while one or more users are signed in, then you are told users are signed in but have no idea which users are signed in. The only way to know which users are signed in is to sign into one of the accounts and find out.

I am looking for a registry hack, group policy, or some simple program/application that will turn on the ability to have (or force) the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) Sign-in Screen to indicate which, if any, users are already signed in like Windows 8.x's Sign-in Screen did. That information/indication on the Sign-in Screen was quite helpful.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:I want Windows 10 Sign-in Screen to show which users are signed in

Windows 10 changes a lot. To see currently logged on users, you can click on the Start button, click your user icon on the top left side of the Start Menu. It will display all signed in users in the list.

Just that: Why do you have to sign in to see who else is signed in on that computer? Wouldn't it make sense to show that on the main screen? Is there a tweak to fix that?

Answer:Show All Users at Sign in to Windows 10

Hello esmache, and welcome to Ten Forums.

All users already show on the Sign in screen by default like in the two screenshots on the right side below.

Did you mean how to disable the lock screen (1st screenshot) instead?

Hello Jamal,

If you like, Option One in the tutorial can have your sign in screen show all users by default.

Windows 10 v1607 displays the lock screen image on the sign-in screen too, which is pretty cool in my opinion.
But if you wish to display a plain login screen, Open Start Menu, click on Settings.
Open Personalization settings and select Lock screen from the left panel.
Here you will see Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen.
Toggle the button to the Off position.

I've been using Windows 10 for just over one year. For some reason the Lock Screen/Sign-in screen shows three users. All three are me in three iterations. I find also that when trying to save some excel and word documents I receive messages saying that i am not allowed to save to this folder or that folder. I am able to save to the desk top and then drag and drop the document into the folder that I need to place it in. I know that this must have something to do with "permissions". Not sure how to fix that. One of the accounts that shows up is the initial account that I created back when hotmail.com was around. Any ideas/advice on these issues? When i updated to Windows 10, pretty certain that i followed all of the instructions, although that has been over 1 year now. Thank you in advance...cheers and beers to all!

Somehow I end up with extra user names on the start up screen where I sign in with my MS account. I created a local account as administrator, I have my MS account as administrator & I created an account for my husband as administrator. However when the sign on screen comes up there are 2 other users on there. The other problem pertaining to this is that in File Explorer my User Folder is MKJ30. It shows as MKFJ in command prompt when I bring up net users. There vs no mkj30. In netplwiz the MKFJ shows up as my user name for my MS Account. I am getrting 2 sets of documents, pictures, etc under user name mkj30 in file explorer. Please can someone tell me how to staighten this out? MKFJ is not showing in File Explorer at all.
These are the registry profiles & Commands listed:

Answer:I keep getting extra users on my sign on screen

List the names you see on the log-in screen and in C:\Users (use un-hidden view). Your 'wmic useraccount get name, fullname' command brings up normal list but I also have a defaultuser0 between DefaultAccount and Guest
Also, reg entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList should only show the 3 accounts you created. Not sure what the other profiles, like .NET ones point to.
Are the 2 sets of This PC folders under 'mkj30' duplicates or different from each. I take it 'mkj30' is your Local Account name ?

When I first installed WinX it showed a different picture each day in the "pre sign in" lock screen, either for a second or two or until I clicked the sign-in spot. Since I am the administrator I don't have to use a password to sign in, and WinX seems to sometimes, but not always, recognize this and automatically bypasses the sign-in process and goes to the normal wallpaper background after a maybe 1 sec delay. I am using the latest version of Classic Shell and maybe this adds to the OS "confusion".

Since the last Windows Update some days ago (around 2.3 GB if I remember) it shows the SAME picture every day now. In the Personalization lock screen panel it shows:

Background
Slideshow (I selected)
Pictures
"Get fun facts ..." Off
Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen > On

and "Help" does not help

How can I get back the original set-up which changes the sign-in/lock screen picture to change each time or each day?
note: I will not use System Restore and have to reinstall the last update, as I am on a metered Internet access and limited to 1GB hi-speed Internet each day, without which my use of the Internet at 128 kb/sec is basically useless nowadays (as in, almost nothing works these days at that low speed)

When I start my laptop, I get to the screen where I can select a profile to begin with, but when I select my profile, Windows tries to start and then automatically logs me off and I end up back at the profile selection screen. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I've tried starting in safe mode, but I get to the same spot every time. Thanks in advance for anyone that might have suggestions.

Doug

Answer:XP sign on/automatically signed off

I suggest you try Safe Mode again but this time as Administrator then go Start>Control Panel>User Accounts and either delete your own account or at least change the password. Reboot in Normal mode and re-post if this doesn't change the situation.

I have Windows 10 Home on my laptop. I have created Local Accounts by going to Start > netplwiz and creating some users. Most of the users do not have a Password and are not Administrators. I have also checked the option "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Now the problem is that after a reboot/restart or a boot (i.e. Shutdown and then Power On) the last user that was logged gets automatically logged in. So if User A was last using the laptop, he Shutdowns the laptop and then User B starts the Laptop, the OS directly logs into the User A's account. User B has to log out and then log in as User B. This is contrast to what used to happen with Windows 7/Vista/XP.

Please note that this is a fresh Windows 10 laptop and is not an upgrade from Windows 7/8/8.1.

Can you please suggest me how I will be able to get all the users listed on the Login screen at the time of reboot or boot (i.e. Shutdown and then Power On)? The user has to select his ID and then login. Rather the last user login should not happen automatically.
Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Win Home 10 does not show login/sign in screen after boot or reboot

Hi Addverma, welcome to Ten Forums.

The easiest way is to add passwords to all user accounts. If Windows is shut down or restarted from desktop of a local user who has no password, by default Windows will sign this user in when started next time.

Adding password to all users prevents automatic sign-in of last user.

Another option is to not display usernames in sign-in screen as told in this tutorial: Sign in Screen - Do Not Display User Name in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Notice that Option One in above mentioned tutorial does not work for you because you cannot edit policies in Windows 10 Home. The registry method, Option Two should work in Home Edition, too.

When method in tutorial is used, Windows will not show usernames. All users must enter their username manually, as well as possible password:

Well I started up my laptop today (Acer Aspire 5100), and it acted as usual, but no users show up. Its just the WindowsXP logo, no users or options.

One thing that does happen if left alone for a few minutes, the "Protected by Kaspersky Labs" shows up on the top right corner.

I tried booting in Safe Mode, but it just hangs, never gets to loading Windows.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

My home pc (Win7 Ultimate) is part of my business domain, but I also have local user accounts for my wife and kids.

At the login screen there is a icon for the last user that logged in and another labeled "Other Users" for the rest of the users, so that if a different user needs to login they have to select "Other Users" then enter the DOMAIN/USERID and password to logon.

Is there a way to have it show all three users with their icons at the login screen so they can just click their icon and enter their password (all have passwords) to logon. Getting them to enter the DOMAIN/USERID correctly everytime is a challenge since the slash has to go the correct way and the domain name is somewhat long.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have several Windows 8.1 computers with more than 8 user accounts in a small business environment. At the login screen, you have to scroll to the right to see some of the user names. How can I either make the user login icons smaller so that they all fit on a single screen, or make them show in multiple rows so they all fit on one screen?

Poll aimed for Windows RT/8/Pro users.

Out of interest, how do you log in to your user account?

User Password
PIN code
Picture Password
No Password

If you use Windows 7, Vista or XP, choose "I use another OS".

Answer:Windows 8 Users: How do you Sign-In to your User Account?

I've recently decided to change to a PIN code password.

Benefits over User Password:
- Never need to enter Real password for Microsoft Account.
- Easy to remember, 4-digits only.
- Instant Logs-in after correct code, no need to hit Enter.

PS: If you switch you can still log in using the other options, if set.

I've loaded Windows 10 in a VM running on Windows 8.1. I've created multiple user but can't seem to figure out how to sign into a second account while still signed in to the first account. In Windows 8.1 this was easy!

Sorry for the (maybe) dumb question.

Answer:Multiple Users Signed In at One Time

If you're running in a Hyper-V VM and using the Enhanced Mode session, then the viewer is actually running in a Remote Desktop session. In that mode, many normal features are disabled, such as Switch User, and many Display properties settings.

If you exit from full screen mode, then under View uncheck Enhanced session, then log back... you will find that Switch User still does not appear on the User in the start menu, but if you click on the desktop and press Alt-F4 you will get a shutdown dialog and one of the options is Switch User (you get "disconnect" in Enhanced Session).

Hi. I have a Dell 310 with XP Media 2002 Edition. I have 4 users authorized/named. I also have a Dell XP Pro, with 4 users (the same 4). With the XP Pro, more than one user can be signed on at one time; I need to "switch user" and response time is a bit slower, but it still works and I can access all programs. However, with the XP Media, I can only have one user logged on. If I try to log on more than one, and run any program, I receive a "runtime error! message - "The application has requested the RUntime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Is this an XP Media issue - that OS can only accomodate one user at a time? Or is there some way for me to configure the OS/system to allow for more than one user to be logged on?

Thanks,
stuarth

On the Windows 8/8.1 platform, they have this annoying process of signing in to the last logged in user by default rather than showing all users so every time if the last user wasn't you (and they don't have a password to their account) you have to sign out from that account to get to yours. What I want to know is does Windows 10 now show all users by default rather than this login to the last signed-in user stuff?

I have been having problems with Media Center, not downloading the guide.  I have been trying to follow all of Microsoft's recommendations for a fix.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  The advice told me to go into Services and find two files on the list and make sure they were both started:

Windows Media Center Receiver Service (was started), and
Windows Media Center Scheduler Service (wasn't started, I started it).
Then it told be to go to Show Processes from all Users.  And find six files on the list.  The instructions assumed the files would be there.  Only one of the files is.
How do I get the missing five files on the list?:
ehmsas.exe (missing)
ehrecvr.exe (on the list)
ehsched.exe (missing)

ehtray.exe (missing)

Microsoft's directions d that these files would all be there.  It did not say what to do if any were missing.

When I go to HKCU\ControlPanel\Desktop and change PaintDesktopVersion to 1 it shows build number only to one user.
But I want to it show that to all users and when I create new user.

How to do that think?

Answer:show windows 7 build number for all users?

I'm not one to recommend messing with the registry, and I can't tell you where exactly to change the setting you want to change, but I *can* tell you that HKCU stands for HKCurrentUser. That means the setting will only change for the person modifying the registry, as he/she is the "current user."

Good luck!

You asked this using identical wording as Milan777 on MSFN three days ago. Did you try the suggested method?QuoteYou need to edit the default user hive. Set explorer to show hidden and protected operating system files. Open regedit and highlight HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click File, Load Hive... and browse to C:\Users\Default User\NTUSER.DAT. Give it a name. Now go to this new area that you named under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and edit <name you gave it>\Control Panel\Desktop. Then simply highlight the loaded hive and click file, unload hive.

I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.

So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.

Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?

Answer:Show processes from all users, with no other users

All users includes not only other users, if any but the System as well.

Hello, Windows 10 Pro, fully fully updated. The following happens on two completely different machines (desktop and laptop of different manufacturers).

Up until some time ago (I believe, before Creator's Update, but not 100% certain about that), I used to have Windows Spotlight activated, so that almost every day or every other day, on lock screen, I get one of those lovely photos from Microsoft world archive. However, I not only used to get them on the Lock Screen, they were appearing on the Sign-In screen as well on the first boot-up and Sign-in, as I thought they should, as Windows Spotlight works that way (right?). And I really liked it.

But as of one update, that stopped happenning. Windows Spotlight still works fine on Lock Screen, new photos just fine, but on the sign-in screen, I keep getting the Windows 10 default backgroud photo, the beach/cave one.

Needless to say, I changed nothing in the Sign-In or Lock screen settings at all.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I've already tried the "Brinx fix". Also, needless to say, I've tried resetting the Windows Spotlight back to Photo, and reboot and back countless times.
Cheers

Answer:Windows Spotlight Lock screen photo not coming up on Sign-in screen

Same here & has been happening since a CU in June, I've put it down to MS possibly breaking Spotlight with that CU or they've removed the feature.

Whenever I log-in from hibernate or boot, the start interface shows. I had this enabled in Windows 8.1 (start screen), but now I'm on 10 (no start screen) and it still shows.

There is no option to disable it. Is there a registry key to disable this?

P.S. My start screen is normal, not full screen.

Hello all, this is my first time posting. I receive a BSOD upon startup, once I reach windows login screen. After a couple of seconds, input will lock up. Usually, this is followed after a few moments by a BSOD, though occasionally, input is reallowed, and computer functions normally. This continues until windows tries to install updates. When signing off to reboot, configurations reach 30%, and computer attempts reboot. At this time, before reaching the sign on screen, I get what I can best describe as a bunch of staggered blue and light blue lines across my entire monitor, which requires me to hard boot my computer. To restore functionality, I have to go into safe mode, where I'm informed 'failure configuring windows updates' and my computer automatically reverts the updates. Afterwards, I can boot normally, and I'm back up to the login (which occasionally allows me to proceed.)
I've updated several drivers, uninstalled recently installed programs, and have backed up all files I care to keep. I've tried to do a bit of research, but I'm not getting very far, and this has been going on for several days. My most recent BSOD info is posted below... please help before my computer bites the dust for good!

I use to be able to switch users on AOL and see how many e-mails each user had, along with their sign on names. Now working with Windows 7 and I can't see all my AOL usernames. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Answer:Switching users to sign in to AOL

Take off the training wheels, drop AOL and really use the internet. Your ISP can offer you a number of email accounts, or you can use gmail, yahoo, or other free email accounts out there. No one really needs AOL anymore. When AOL was first around, the pure internet was scary for many so AOL put in place simple controls and hid much of went on behind. Long before even XP came around the internet and browsers became more friendly (as long as you had a good antivirus program) and easier to use, basically making AOL obsolete. Today, there is really no reason to use it any longer. Try it with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or others. Email accounts can be web based where you log in through your browser similar to the way you probably do today, or one that uses an email client like Outlook, Windows Mail, and Mozilla Thunderbird to name a few where you open your email program and it downloads your emails for you and you keep them on your computer. Thunderbird has options for independent multiple email accounts as well as multiple accounts that feed into a single inbox. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Here are my specs.
Mobo: ECS G31T-M7
CPU: Intel Celeron Dual Core E3300
Memory: Elixir DDR2-800 1GB

I've already tested my PSU by shorting the green and black wires, they're perfect. The power switches, I don't know but I'm pretty positive that they're okay. No beeps occur, since my case doesn't have any speaker. I've also tested the cases' indicator lights, they're good too. And then I also made sure I got the connectors on the front panel connected correctly.

The CPU fan doesn't work, no lights, no anything.

It's been quite okay this morning but I have to attend to something so I shut it down and when I returned to turn it on, it just won't.

I think it's my mobo, the chip that has the manufacturer's name on it heated up like crazy and then it won't turn on. Still, I don't know what happened, because the specs are all new. I also tried resetting the CMOS but nothing happened.

Help!!!

Answer:Help! My computer does not show any sign of power

Try shorting the power switch header pins on the motherboard to eliminate the case switch as a problem or, if you prefer, connect the reset switch to those pins. There is no practical functional difference between the reset and power on switch.

when i boot my computer it goes to the screen where i have to choose the user it was doin this until i installed crysis. Also when i go to screen saver then i go back to my computer it doesnt go stright to desk top it goes to the sign on screen.

Answer:windows xp doing the sign in screen how do i remove it??

This usually has something to do with the installation of one of the versions of .NET Framework.

To fix the screen saver issue, go into your Desktop Properties > Screen Saver tab: Uncheck "On Resume, Password Protect".

As far as the login issue...try visiting Windows Update and ensure you have all of the .NET related updates. That works most of the time for me.

If that doesn't work you can install TweakUI XP and turn on the Auto Logon feature.

My password did not work on the windows startup screen.

I ended up boot in safe mode, and doing a memory test, and now it works fine.

But I know a memory test would not of fixed it? Am I going to be getting this error again? Is this a sign of something about to break down on me? or by going in safemode, did I get a better driver load?

I did try rebooting it several times before doing the safemode boot, and nothing worked. But all is fine now... for now. should I be concerned? or did I just get lucky? lol.

It was a windows 7 on a Sony Laptop. (caps was off, password was correct)

Answer:Did not let me sign in to the windows startup screen

Hello jim54729 and welcome to Seven Forums,

I'm not sure why you had this issue and how it sorted itself out...
What you might want to do is create a password reset disk.

I'm having an issue where, at the lock screen, it occasionally won't allow me to click the "Sign in" button. I try to tab over to the button also, no luck. In every case, within 60 seconds or less, it eventually allows me to click the button. This only happens maybe 15% of the time that I am at the lock screen but it is still very annoying.

I have Windows set to keep my monitors on for a long time at idle, so I can be over at my workbench and still glance over at my main monitors. To help compensate for this, I have gotten into the habit of hitting Winkey+L every time I walk away from my computer. The lock screen has it's own idle settings, and turns the monitors off after 60 seconds or so.

After I log in, it takes a few seconds longer than usual then loads put to a black screen. I am able to move the cursor around and start the task manager. Multiple programs seem active as if attempting to start, but it's been sitting like this for 20 minutes.

Answer:Why is Windows 10 going to black screen after sign in?

If this is a recent issue, do a system restore. Pick a date when you did not have this problem as your restore point.
You will need to access system restore option BEFORE you sign in.
Restart computer but do not sign in.
At the login screen, bottom right, there should be 3 icons........
Networking, Ease of Access and Power.
Left click at Power icon will give you a Restart option. Yes ?
Press the SHIFT key and HOLD it > click Power icon and select Restart > release hold.
If asked, click Restart anyway > wait > click Troubleshoot >click Advanced options > System Restore is on the list.
Please post back the result.

My problem is pretty much summed up in my title. :) I have a Dell Latitude laptop, and it runs fine until the sign-in window, and then the keyboard (99% of the time) and the mouse lock up, and it seems all that works is shutting down the computer. Microsoft has an article concerning a problem that sounds similar to this, [URL="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;294427"] but I tried running Windows using the F8 key, and I received no error message. I could really use some help!! If you have the answer, please post! Thanks!

Hi all,

I'm using Classic Theme, and in Windows Explorer, when I mouseover in the left-hand pane (Navigation), the plus signs (to expand folders) appear/disappear. They only stay displayed if I have a folder highlighted on the left. As soon as I select anything in the right-hand pane, the plus signs disappear again.

Does anyone know a way to display them permanantly?

TIA

mac

PS Apologies if this has been asked already. I searched, but couldn't find anything.

Answer:Show Navigation Pane> Expand Folder? (+ sign)

Welcome to Seven Forums Mac.

The arrows/+ signs should show up when you move the mouse over the navigation pane. When you move the mouse over the right pane, they disappear. I guess the idea is that if the mouse isn't nearby they aren't of much use. Sorry, but I don't know of a way to change the behavior.

Dell 3000 PC
Windows 8,1 64.bit
4 GB RAM
When the computer boots it gets as far as the Windows 8.1 welcome screen but no further. I have tried to use a bootable Windows 8.1 installation disc to troubleshoot the problem. The Refresh option results in the error "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again". The System Restore option fails to restore an earlier restore point. The Automatic Repair options results in an error message "Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC".
I thought I might be able to do a repair install but that is not possible unless the computer is already booted into Windows. I cannot even boot in Safe Mode. I am hoping I do not have to completely install Windows 8.1 as I would need to install all my other application software.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions to fix this problem. In particular, how do I unlock the Windows drive?

Recently installed Windows 10 and having sign in problems-see recent posting, although this is a new issue with sign in. PC is shared between 4 family members. Windows 10 has started randomly skipping the sign in screen where individual family members can log in and instead goes straight to log in the last user. This is annoying as another user then has to wait for that users page to load before signing them out and logging in themselves

Answer:Windows 10 randomly skips sign in screen

..........skipping the sign in screen where individual family members
can log in and instead goes straight to log in the last user.

That's normal behaviour for Windows 10 (and Windows 8) where there's more than one local account and no passwords are used.
Unless anyone knows differently, the solution is for the last user of the computer to sign out at the end of the day then use the Shut Down option bottom-right on the Welcome Screen.

My black screen problem is after I sign into Windows, there is display and everything. Once I sign it, the black screen problem can occur anytime. Can be after a few minutes, or few hours. Never know. But what I can confirm is that, if I'm playing music, although the screen is black, the music is still going. So what I think is that the Windows still running but there is no way to wake up the monitor. I also disable the "Allow to turn off this device to save power" options and enable the mouse and keyboard to wake the computer up.

Also let me describe the hardware problems, which is, sometimes when I switch on the main switch and press on the power button to start my desktop, there is no response. I need to open up the casing and maybe remove and reinsert something, switch off the main switch, turn it back on, then only it will work, or maybe sometimes this also doesn't help.

Thanks! Hope to see any reply soon!

Yesterday I did a windows update and my login screen went from the windows default screen (which I liked) to the windows spotlight screen. (you know the one that changes the photos daily) and the lock screen went from the spotlight screen to black.

I have partially fixed the issue: I now have the login screen with the spotlight feature on and I also I have the lock screen with the spotlight feature. I am also able to make the lock screen with the spotlight feature on with a solid color for the sign in screen but I cannot figure out how to get the sign on screen to the default windows picture. See photo.
How can I make this my login background & my lock screen the windows spotlight.

Thank you!

I am having a problem getting my laptop to boot all the way. It will boot up to the Windows log in screen but the cursor/mouse freezes and can not move to activate log in box to sign in.
I am able to boot and use safe mode but this is the only way I can get a complete boot up.

I would appreciate any help I can get as I do not want to lose all the info I have on computer.

Thanks in advance
Don

Hi All -

I've spent several hours trying to get this to work. I have 2 different accounts on my desktop. One account the same spotlight image is displayed on the sign-on screen and lock screen as expected. On the other account, I have everything set the same, but the sign-on screen just shows a picture instead of the spotlight lock screen image.

I've tried turning it off, checked that Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing was selected. Everything looks the same as the other account.

I'm at wits end. Anyone have any ideas what else I should look at?

Windows build version: 14393

After the update, I have Windows 10 installed on my laptop. I was not asked to change my password to a pin. I thought this was odd, because that was the process with another laptop at work that I have successfully updated. Thinking nothing about it, I proceeded, and it looks as if everything is updated properly. I don't have anymore current updates to install and have shut down and restarted this laptop several times using my password. I was wanting to set a pin, so I went into Settings/Account/Sign-In Options. The screen never shows any information and the active circle indicator just keeps gyrating in a circle. Wondering if anyone can help. Here's a snip:

Answer:Sign-in Option screen is blank after Windows 10 install

Fixed this issue. Apparently there was an update ready to be installed. Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3081436) Once I downloaded, installed, and restarted. I can access my Sign-In options window and it is not blank. Has all the options there.

I loaded Windows 8 and used my email address as asked and it appeared after my name and before the password request line at each boot up. I believed the Laptop was running very slowly so I carried out a clean re-install of windows 8. Stupidly I misspelt my email address this time and did not notice it until I was asked to verify that the email address was mine (I had done this successfully the first time I installed Windows 8) so I again asked for the email from Microsoft to be sent again, when it did not arrive yet again I started looking and found my error.
My problem now is I cannot find a way to rectify the error. I just get more and more confused with the Microsoft help screens, I do not understand the terminology, I am sure I will end up with what I do not want. All I want is my email address spelt correctly at the sign in to Windows 8 screen, and for my Microsoft account to be accessible to me. Help Please.

Answer:Windows 8 sign in screen misspelt emails address

You could create an admin account (without an email name) using the wrongly spelled email account. Log in to the non-email account then follow section 4 here. Worth reading it all really.

Had a virus.  AVG could not remove.  rpcss.dll was infected.  I replaced it according to a fix I found online and it ended up in the black screen with a cursor.  I switched the files back and the virus was still there.  Using information that I found on Bleeping computer I tried a few fixes.  After running Farbar, a fix, and then Rougekiller in safe mode, I am back to the Black screen with cursor and can't get back to windows.
