Battery OK, not charging, no charging LED, replacement Smart...

Question: Battery OK, not charging, no charging LED, replacement Smart...

For some time have received the error message regarding under power smart adaptor with newer replacement HP adaptor matching original. Battery icon lists % charge & "not charging". Battery tests good in HP Support Assistant battery check. Power adaptor will power my older Pavillion laptop but not the Envy with or without battery installed. Battery charging LED does not light. Have tried re-calibration by deleting Microsoft devices in Device Manager. Envy will operate with and without battery while using Dell power adaptor. Computer repair shop says Smart adaptor produces 0 voltage (even though it powers Pavillion) and I need a new battery (even though diagnostic test indicates good). Help!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I recently bought a replacement battery for my dell xps l502x. Now its saying "Warning: The battery is not recommended for this system, the system will be unable to charge this battery". Its not a genuine dell battery either, so maybe thats the problem?

The strange thing is, Ive bought two new power adapters for it recently too. The first one worked fine in terms of charging it, but I got an error that I needed a 130 w one (this one was 90 w) and as a result I couldnt access the internet or my home network. So now the 130 w does access the internet, but it wont charge..?

Anything I can try to make it charge again?

I ordered some ThinkPads for work and during transport the batteries were stolen. Since February we have been trying to get new batteries for Lenovo SA without success. We have now found some replacments locally, but the machine tells me that it is not original and will not charge the batteries. Is there any way around this?If they insist on original batteries they should make them available!

Try to buy from the Lenovo website and you get directed here:http://www.buylenovo.co.za/; it;s a dead link. Great job!

I'm from the US but am currently studying in the UK. I purchased a power adapter and had been using it to charge my laptop for about a week before I noticed a few days ago that it was no longer charging, but rather had the message "plugged in, not charging". I did a battery check through HP Support Assistant, which determined that the laptop's battery has to be replaced. I've only had this computer for a little over a year, so I'm not sure if I've been using a faulty adapter or what to have caused the battery to need replacement.  Is there a different fix known for my predicament? If not, what're the steps in obtaining a new battery with an expired warranty, and will the same thing just happen given that I'll be in the UK for another few months and need to be using an adapter? Thanks!

Just replaced the battery in my XPS 1340 and found out I have charging issues. When I plug in a charger, Windows sees it but won't charge the old total depleted battery, instead, runs off ac power. Tried a different charger and a new battery with 30% charge but same results. As a last chance effort, I replaced the male prong power adapter in the computer. Now Windows doesn't see the charger and will not run on ac.
Is there something in the Bios that needs to be done to fix this or am I to assume it's a motherboard issue and retire this little workhorse.

Answer:Battery not charging after power adapter replacement

Dead batteries cannot be charged. Remove the dead battery and try using just the original dell adapter that came with the laptop alone. You cannot use other models adapters or batteries.

Hello, I found out that my battery icon has told me to consider replacing my battery. So I order a replacement battery from Amazon(the cheapest they had), and it isn't a Lenovo one. I got the battery a couple of days ago and I tried putting it in. I realized that my battery indictator was off, but I turned my computer on and it did boot normally. The battery icon came up and read "60% (Plugged in, not charging)  I tried letting it on battery power and see if it may recharged, but it didn't.  I didn't actually realize that my Lenovo B570 may reject such a battery, so I didn't know that detail when I bought the battery. I read people with the same problem yet their problems were with a battery manufactured by Lenovo, not one from another company.  So my question is: Has anyone done the normal techiques like the power button or uninstalling Microsoft ACPI control Method on a Lenovo B570 or should I just return this replacement battery and get a Lenovo one? Thank you. =)

Answer:Replacement Battery "Plugged, not charging" on B570

As a saftey precaution, your B570, will not charge third party batteries. I would suggest replacing this battery and getting a lenovo one

So lately I've been having an issue with my laptop.  The charger is plugged in but the computer doesn't seem to recognize it unless I shift the laptop to a certain position.  This seems to have little to do with the position of the AC plug in the DC port at all as it's not the same positions that will actually get the computer to recognize the charger is plugged in. I don't think this has anything to do with the battery itself as removing the battery does not make the connection more consistent.  The computer will still not recognize the AC adapter is plugged in.  I had the same problem with my old laptop, a V570. It will also briefly lose connection and restore it before my display can process it.  I know this by the CPU throttle in the BIOS (which I can't access to turn off because of the version of BIOS used) will randomly slow my computer down and won't restore to full speed when the charger is making connection again. What just happened lately which is making me wonder about this more is that my laptop stopped recognizing the charger as being plugged in in the tray icon but the charger light on my laptop started flashing orange.  The blue power light was also flashing. Sometimes when I restart my computer to reset the CPU throttle, I will get a pop-up message from the Battery Management Software stating, "Adapter has limited support: performance will be affected ..." Full specs available on the purchase page here. &n... I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Hi there, I recently purchased a replacement battery for my Satellite L850-1D5 as the stock battery was fried. The stock battery could not hold full charge for any longer than 10 minutes.

The replacement battery fits perfectly into the battery slot, however the laptop does not turn on when the new battery is in. It doesn't even turn on if I plug in the charger AFTER I insert the new battery.

Basically this new battery does not register at all with the laptop, it does not charge or anything at all... Is it possible that it is just a dud battery?

Any advice or help is massively appreciated!

Thank you

Answer:Satellite L850-1D5 replacement battery - not charging and not detected!

> It doesn't even turn on if I plug in the charger AFTER I insert the new battery.

In my opinion the new battery isn?t fully compatible.
Probably its an ?cheap? china product and not genuine battery released for the L850 series.

I have no other recommendation for you as to purchase new, genuine and fully compatible battery.

The Toshiba 6 cell battery PA5024U-1BRS (and PABAS260) should be compatible.

Hi. I have a Dell XPS 15z which I have newly replaced battery. The battery came in with 79%, it shows charging but the percentage does not increase. It will work on battery alone. The weird thing is that when I plug-in the charger, the charger lights up even before I switch on the wall switch. It is like power draining back to the charger.
I don't see any wiring loose or damage to the board. Is there anything I have missed? Please help. I have paid good money for the new battery.
Thanks.

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

Hi, I upgraded my Sony Vaio to Windows 10. Since the upgrade, battery icon showing "Plugged in, Charging" but not actually charging. Always it is in 3% and when unplug the power, system shutdowns.

Answer:Sony Vaio - shows charging, but not charging the battery?

From: Recovery and Troubleshooting Guide
Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
When you intend to run your VAIO computer on battery power, the battery pack may have run out of power. Connect the computer to a power outlet. For details, refer to Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
If you did not previously follow the standard procedure to turn off your VAIO computer, the power controller may be suspended due to a program error.
Do as follow:
- On the models with a built-in battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, push and hold the battery off button for at least three seconds with a thin, straight object (such as a paper clip), and leave the computer for at least
five minutes. Then, plug the AC adapter and turn on the computer once again. For the location of the battery off button, refer to Locating Parts and Controls in the Startup Guide.
- On the models with a removable battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, remove the battery pack, and leave the computer for at least five minutes. Then, reinstall the battery pack and turn on the computer once again.

Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series.  We have 280 X131e and X140e (AMD) notebooks that are 4 years old.  The Lenovo batteries in the units needed to be replaced.  Lenovo batteries cost approximately 36% more than the BTI batteries.  We order two specimen BTI batteries before placing an order.  The specimen batteries were tested over the course of a week to 10 days in the X131e and X140e systems running Windows 7.  There were no "not charging" messages during the testing.  In August of 2017, we started school with 260+ batteries installed in the X131e and X140e systems.  All appeared to be going fine until approximately 2-3 weeks in to the school year.  Each day approximately 3-5 students using the BTI batteries appeared and indicate that they charged their notebook overnight (or all weekend) but the BTI battery was still dead within the first hour of school or less.  So on any given day approximately 240 batteries are charging without issue overnight. The student notebooks that appear have the following symptoms: 1.  The BTI battery has a charge of 0-8% or less based on the information reported in both Lenovo Power Manager and Windows Power manager.2.  The units indicate in both the Lenovo and Windows power management applications that the charger and battery are present but that the battery is "not charging."3.  Known good systems, chargers and batteries have been used for all testing.  BTI has confirmed that 20 of the batteries sen... I saw a warning about trying to replace my Sony Laptop battery...that it wouldn't work with Windows 7, but the battery sales person convinced me it would. Now I've spent all day trying to figure out a solution, and have found none.

The battery came with a driver disk which won't load cause it was for a 32 bit, mine is 64 bit.

I tried uninstalling the "Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and reinstalling, but it gave me an error message saying it couldn't install.

I went to Microsoft and downloaded all the updates.

I tried this...but could not find "ISBmgr.exe" under the start up tab.

From either the Start menu or command prompt run MSCONFIG.exe
On Vista machines, Windows will prompt you for permission to continue
In the System Configuration window, click the "Startup" tab and find the item containing "ISBMgr.exe"
Uncheck the box for the "ISBMgr.exe"
Click "Ok" to save and accept the changes and restart the laptop
You may be prompted on restart that Windows is running in selective mode. Just uncheck the notification option on bottom right.
I followed a few other iterations of those above steps with battery in, battery out, and other pokie turn yourself around things and am now stuck.
The new battery does not charge even when everything is shut down and plugged in. Yet, my old battery charges fine. It just won't hold a charge for longer than 20 minutes. T... Read more

Hi, I have an X220 Tablet that's about 3 and a half years old -- so unfortunately just out of warranty -- and I'm having battery/charging problems. A few months ago the original 6-cell battery that came with the laptop died: Power Manager reported it as dead and needing replacing. It had had 500-something cycles, so it seemed reasonable. I went ahead and bought a new 6-cell battery from Lenovo, the 67+, and then my system was fine again. But one day a few weeks ago this battery suddenly stopped charging. Power Manager reported that "The battery is in good condition", and it was reported as "Status: Charging", but it was not actually charging and was instead very slowly discharging its way to 0%. Something suspicious is perhaps that PM reported "Current: 0.00 A". I thought it might be the battery, so I got another one, but that has exactly the same issue -- now I have two batteries, each discharged completely and with no way to charge them. Charging doesn't happen regardless of whether the computer is on or off, or whether I'm in Windows (7) or Linux. I checked the AC adapter/charger with a multimeter and it is reporting 20V as it's supposed to, so I guess that's okay. Plus, the laptop runs fine on just the AC adapter, even if it's a little bit slower (which I gather is due to it being 65W rather than 90W). The only slightly unusual thing I can remember from the day charging stopped functioning is that I was using the 'always on' USB port to charge my ... Answer:Battery not charging despite being reported as good and as charging

It is hard for me to be certain without seeing it, and Sweden is a long way from San Francisco. The symptom point to a blown fuse or power transistor (mosfet). Either can cause your problem, and usually require motherboard replacement. If nothing was going on when the problem started, (no power failure, lightning storm, failure of power adapter, tripping over the cord) I would guess mosfet. Some shops can repair fuses, but they require fairly good soldering equipment. I have had much poorer luck fixing mosfets, because usually, more than one chip is bad. You might be able to find a motherboard for a reasonable price. I have one for sale on eBay for under $100, but international shipping is expensive and you might do better locally. Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Answer:Y510P "plugged in, charging" but battery is not charging

hi kanyewest,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.
     - Link to picture

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Client's relatively new Yoga 500 is exhibiting a weird problem in Windows 10 anniversary edition. The battery is currently at 47% but keeps flickering between charging and not charging. The icon changes every second, possibly faster. Tried swapping power supplies so it's not that. When first reported, the battery was at 40% but then got to 47% during a reboot. The battery on the Yoga 500 is internal so not possible to try swapping batteries. Any ideas or suggestions?

My G50-70 of less than a year just got a dead battery. The battery is constantly at 7%. It says "Plugged in, charging" but it doesn't actually charge. Please help!

Answer:G50-70 Battery says "Plugged in, Charging" but not charging

Hi Mistwild82,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.

Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.

Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.

Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

The new replacement battery for my T40 is not charging at all. in spite of the fact that the T40 battery statistics state the battery is healthy , charging and behaving normally  (with currently 0 % charge, 8.64 voltage, 24 C temperature (not hot)).  The T40 works just fine when plugged into a wall outlet so the problem is not the A/C adapter.  The T40 device manager gives correct manufacturing date 2/09 and correct T40 plug in date of 4/09, serial number, etc.  the design voltage is 10.80 V so it knows what is there.  I am using windows XP prof... This battery is  6 cell..  The original battery was a 9 cell. The manufacturer contends this battery will work on any T40 and the manual indicates that either 6 cell or 9 cell can be used... The only abnormal indication so far is that when I asked  the Lenovo site to automatically identify the specs of my T40, it listed  a 9 cell battery instead of a 6 cell one.   Does that tell us anything about what might be wrong?  with respect to the suggestions on the regular lenovo site, I already did all  that I could do  including sending the first replacement battery back to the manufacturer who then sent a second one to me.  I couldn't upgrade the battery controller because that first required an upgrade of the Bios and I can't do the Bios upgrade without a fully charged battery.  Thanks very much for any help.

To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Answer:G50-70 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hello,

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.

I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.

What else can I do?

Thank you

Edit:
******Solution******

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.

a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Thus:
1. The problem is som... Read more

ASUS G75VW-DS71 LapTop, 64 bit OS, Win7
I noted posts as long ago as 2002 re same issue. Here it is...
My tray battery readout says "96% available (plugged in, not charging)". I bought a new battery, and it showed "100% available (plugged in, charging)". For about 2 days.
Then it showed "96% available (plugged in, not charging)". I thought 'faulty battery', and exchanged it again.
While waiting I placed the original battery into the laptop, and it showed "96% available (plugged in, and charging)". After 2 days it returned to "96% available (plugged in, not charging)".
The new replacement battery arrived. It showed 100% available, charging for 2-3 days, then reverted to 97%, not charging.
Oh... once it gets to the "not charging" point, the laptop battery light flashes orange continually.
Is this a problem? Or, should I just ignore it? I like things to work 'right', so any input would be welcome.
Thanks.

Answer:Battery charging / not charging

Can you run it on the battery or is it left plugged in all the time?
I have a lenovo laptop at work that is left plugged in most of the time, always shows 97%, but does work if I unplug the charger.

I have a G560 , when battery is depleted and needs a charge . If I plug my AC adapter in my battery icon shows I have the AC power but the icon shows that it is charging for 17 seconds and then quits showing that it is charging. If I unplug the power supply and then plug it in again. The same 20 seconds thing. I can get the battery to completely recharge all the way up if I plug and unplug. I am wondering if it is a defective voltage regulator problem? I do not want to replace the battery if the battery is not bad. It is just out of warranty by 3 monthes. This just started happening . Thanks and God Bless : )

Hi, So out of the blue my Yoga 13 seized up while sitting at the start menu in Windows 8.1. I had to kill the local svc host which had accumulated over 2GB of ram... just so I could shutdown the machine,  but when I shutdown some craziness started. The power wouldn't turn off even after 20 minutes. I held it down forever and finally it did turn off (maybe the shutdown was incredibly prolonged). I did also flash the bios after this craziness, to the one on the suggested download site (version 55).  At any rate, that's when the problems really started: I got the plugged in not charging issue in windowsThe battery charging light no longer turns on when plugged in (though the battery is charging). The novo button doesn't work.Unauthorized battery messagePower button wasn't responsive when off. Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

Hi, I set my laptop to "Battery protection mode" which is supposed to limit charging to 60%. I noticed that once my laptop is at 60%, it switches to A/C for a few minutes, then it discharges by 1% and then charges again to 60%. This process repeats every few minutes. Is this supposed to happen? I'm worried that each time it discharges and charges again, I am wasting a charge cycle.  When I allow it to charge to 100% under "Battery Fully charged mode", it will switch to A/C when fully charged and does not discharge again so I don't think there's an issue with my battery.  Thanks for any help!

Answer:Battery Protection Mode - U410 Battery fluctuates around 60%, keeps charging and discharging.

It is fine for the laptop dont worry.

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Hello

I just purchased a Satellite L775-15q and I want to know the best plan to charge my battery, so it can last as long as possible.
Should I leave the laptop always connected on the charger power cord, no matter if it has full battery or not? Should I always let the battery drop to 10% and then charge it up to 100% and then remove the cord? Or should I do that from time to time and not every day?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite L775-15Q - Battery Charging plan for long battery life

Hi,

I think the best that you can do is discharge the battery two-three times a month not everyday.

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500: battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery

Hi, Denkendale ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Do this test -

1) Switch off the laptop.
2) Disconnect power supply. Keep the battery connected.
3) Try to Turn ON the laptop.

If the laptop does not turn ON, the battery is faulty.

Also, Try turning the laptop off, removing the battery, unplug the AC adapter, press and hold the power button for thirty seconds, install the battery back into the laptop but don't connect the power cable and try to start the laptop on battery power.

Update us how it goes.

Hello.  I would be grateful if someone can help me with solving the following battery issue.
My XPS13 9343 (with Windows 10, 2015 model) recently stopped charging when connected.  I have conducted BIOS test, stress test, system test, battery test recommended on Dell forum, but could not find any issues.
Then ran device manager and checked & updated drivers, tested for virus, scanned the system, but could not detect any issues.
Lights on AC adopter is on (static) , and the front light under the touch pad turn on white briefly when connected then turn off immediately when plugged in (when disconnected, orange light comes on).
It seems charging is disabled...I might have touched keys without realizing (I checked whether there were hot key to enable/disable charging, but could not find one).
Since it is an ultrabook, and the battery has no issues, I have not opened the back to take out the battery.
I brew into the connecting hole, but it did not solve the issue.
Please help!

Answer:XPS 9343 (2015) battery not charging - no issues with battery or AC adopter when tested

If the system doesn't detect the AC adapter correctly, the battery won't charge.  That's the first thing to check - F2 at powerup.  If the adapter shows unknown, either it, the DC jack, or the mainboard is bad.  Replace parts in that order.
If the system DOES correctly identify the AC adapter, but the battery won't charge, odds are (particularly given the amber light), the battery is the faulty part.

Answer:Helix Tablet battery problems - invalid, 0%, not charging, battery error

hi, I'm exactly similar problem.  it is really annoying. I have sent it to service centre once, they simply don't know and just reset the unit by pressing small hole at the tablet, the they do full recharge.  some how it works. later, at the same day occurred again and I tried replicate same process but no luck. then I follow instruction from one of the suggestion in this forum, it solved. it was 2-3 mth ago. now, after I upgrade to windows 8.1, the problem came back. all of this problem created from lenovo power management software together with their metro apps which setting what power management should do. the real culprits when you have setup some setting, then you undock or dock the tablet.. so I believe the software got confuse between the current setting with two unit (keyboard and tablet) especially if you ever play around with setting to extend the battery life which the power management will allow the battery to be charged not more than 50%. what the bad idea ... may not so bad but bad execution... we dont want this stupid geniuses ... we just want our unit working as when we purchase it. your latest driver is suck... big time... u should fire your engineer. .. pay 2k but got monkey ....

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

Answer:XPS 12 9Q23 Power Charging Disabled / Plugged in, NOT CHARGING

Hi DAEMONROD.
Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I recently had my Qosmio F55-Q502 repaired by Toshiba.
Two issues were addressed and one is fixed.

However, the second was attempted to be resolved unsuccessfully.

When I attempt to play multi-media games such as Call of Duty IV, even if the system is fully charged, within minutes the system will start to blink the "backlights" and then when I see the charging icon, it says "Plugged in, Not Charging."

This really concerns me as I have read online many similar issues, but none of the solutions seems to work.
To have to restart the machine everytime this happens and your in the middle of a game, really stinks!
I even had it happening with SimCity4 which is an ancient game.

Any good suggestions on this?
They did replace the battery when it was sent in which seems to be what most people say needs to be done.

Answer:Qosmio F55-Q502 - charging icon says: Plugged in, Not Charging

Hello

If your Qosmio notebook was in repair I think you should not discuss about any issue on forums but make a pressure on service and clarify every single problem with your notebook.
Please do this because the warranty is still valid and now is the time to clarify everything.

I am not hardware specialist but it sound to me as some power supply electronic issue but I cannot say for sure. Talk with service. Try to clarify this with them. Be nice, be cool and everything will be ok.

Hi there, new on the forums. I've just bought my first ThinkPad and can't tell if the charging is complete while the laptop is off. I charge the laptop mostly when it's off but the only chargin indication I can see is a constant green LED near the charging port. I would have expected it to be red during charge and turn green when charging reaches 100%. Are all E320s like this? A very annoying problem

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E320 Charging LED; how can you tell if its charging complete?

It seems that Lenovo engineers decided that Edge users don't need as many indicator lights as other models have.  In my E420 there are only 2: AC power adapter connected (green light next to power connector) and On/Off/Sleep status (red light dot in ThinkPad logo). That's it!  If you want to know the battery status you have to open Windows.

Hi, My husband purchased an Ideapad Yoga 11S last year. Last month, the power cord stopped charging. I took the system into a repair shop, and they told me that the charger wasn't registering any power activity, and that I'd need to buy a new one. I ordered a new one... one month later, it too has stopped charging the computer! I have NO IDEA why? My son uses this for school, and he can't access any of his work, nor can he participate in classwork that requires the computer. I researched solutions, and found that I should unplug the unit and take out the battery --- YEAH RIGHT... a special screw driver is needed to do that, so we can't get the screws out without stripping them. I am VERY frustrated because the computer is no longer covered under warranty... is the new charger that I purchased covered? Is there something else that I can do? Any help in this matter is extremely appreciated. S_Reynolds

I am facing the below given 2 problems with the battery of a brand new lenovo U41-70 i5 Red model.

1. The plugged in but not charging error. Some suggestions in the web ask the user to remove the battery and change some stuff in the device drivers, but in my model the battery is not removable.

2. The battery dissipates a lot of charge while in complete switched off mode (not in sleep, nor hibernated). I have also disabled the windows fast boot mode from the power options, but doesn't work.
To give an estimate, in approximately 9 hours of shutdown (and the charging removed) the battery dissipates from a full 100 to 70%.

Note: I have updated the laptop which came with Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Hence, the system is running on windows 10 now. The laptop is 10 days old.

I do same things after doing these things many time I become able to turn on laptop back. Now again my laptop is not charging battery because I changed the mode. I've had my Yoga 13 for a few years now, but it wasn't until last fall or so that I started to get 'Unauthorized Battery' warnings upon start-up from the Energy Management program. This is a bit ludicrous to me, as the Yoga 13's design makes it impossible to switch out the battery on your own (ie. it's the original battery, and not an unauthorized replacement). As a result, my laptop stops charging, which is a concern for me as I am a university student who doesn't always have a power outlet handy. I understand this is a serious bug or issue. The first time (and subsequent times) it happened, I found a similar thread here on the community board which advised numerous fixes which have worked for me in the past whenever my laptop starts displaying the unauthorized battery warnings. This time, however, nothing I do seems to work and I'm getting ridiculously frustrated. The things I have tried thus far (that previously worked, but this time around, did not):- Uninstalling and reinstalling Lenovo's Energy Management program - NOTE: Usually uninstalling this program removes the 'block' on battery charging, but this time around it doesn't seem to be working. - Fiddling around with the Energy Management program's power settings - Uninstalling Notebook FanControl (which I used to control the random fan accelerations that the Yoga 13 is prone to)- Doing a hard boot by holding the power button - Booting from BIOSThe last time this happened, I had the unit sent i... Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue. When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

Oh, and another thing. This happens to my brother aswell (also owns a T60); the laptop would be working fine, until it decides to give us a black screen. Only way out of this is to put it to sleep, and wake it up again. Nothing in particular starts this issue. Thanks

Hello All, I'll try to keep it brief. I recently purchased a B560 system and noticed the Battery Indicator (located on the left side palmrest) is flashing orange constantly. In addition to this, the Windows Battery Icon (on the system tray) is indicating that the battery is not charging at all. I've done some basic troubleshooting: Rebooting the system. Removed the battery, reseated it. Unplugged the system from the power connector etc. and the system still indicates the battery isn't charging. More details:The system was manufactured March 03, 2011 and purchased new from on Bestbuy May, 2011.Windows 7 64bit, recently upgraded to SP1, no other issues to report

Hello, The connection on the power jack for my Y450 broke after a few years use. I bought a new power jack online to replace the broken one. I opened up the computer, switched them out and put it back together. Computer will still not charge the battery or turn on without the battery. If I use just the battery, the computer starts up no problem, so I am sure I reassembled it properly. Any suggestions why swaping the broken power jack didn't work? I also ordered two seperate power jack replacements so I doubt both do not work. Thanks for any suggestions

Answer:Ideapad Z-500 - Battery firmware updated but still battery not charging

hi Aledef,

If you have the Lenovo Energy Management installed, can you check the following:

1. For Windows 7:
Ensure that Maximum Battery Life is selected

For Windows 8:
Ensure that Conservation Mode is disabled.

2. Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method under the Device Manager > Battery
   - Link to picture

When finished, reboot the machine and observe if the battery is now charing above 59%. If the problem remains, try charging the battery while the computer (about 30mins) and see if it goes pass the 59% mark.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about getting a replacement battery.

Hi sasman20,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To answer your question first.
(Yes the battery is covered under the Base warranty of 1 Year)
Call Lenovo Technical Hotline for assistance

Also try this step as this helped other with battery problems
1. Turn OFF the Computer and Remove th AC adapter (Leave the battery connected)
2. TURN the computer back ON and start hitting F2 (This will boot the computer into BIOS)
3. Let the computer ON inside the BIOS and let it turn off by itself due to Battery loss of Power.
4.  Now charge the battery again and check.

Hope this helps

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. Before the problem began, the battery charge LED would be off when the battery was installed and the charger was not being used. Now the battery charge LED goes off only when the battery is physically removed. What I have tried:Cleaned the contacts.Bought a new HP battery.Tried the complete discharge method of turning the laptop off, removing the power cord and battery and holding the power on key for over 30 seconds.Have done safe restarts.Reset to HP recommended settings.Suggestions/recommendations?

I am becoming more and more concerned about my laptop's battery each and every passing day. When I check the bottom right of my computer screen to check if my computer battery is completely charged, it says "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". I have had to buy two new batteries because of the same thing and they also read "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". When I unplug my laptop from the power source, it turns off automatically. I cannot even bother calling Dell to check this issue for me because I bought this computer off the street for $35.

My question in general is how do I get this problem fixed and how do I keep an eye on how my laptop computer charges correctly (or not)???

I have just replaced my CMOS/BIOS battery today, as , I have faced some critical problem regarding regular BIOS date/time reset after system shutdown. But I want to know how do i recognize, that my new batter is totally ok or functional.

Battery Meter gadget shows that "battery Not charging"
Is it a gadget problem?

Is there any method available so that I can track that my new installed CMOS battery in PC is working fine?

Please help me.

Answer:Battery Meter shows CMOS battery not charging

The battery you have replaced is solely there to maintain the clock and other BIOS settings (if you have changed them from their defaults). It will not prevent you from booting your system if it is dead/missing; all it means is that you will have to enter the BIOS each time and make the correct settings and time. This battery is not rechargeable.

Do you still have to enter the correct time, or is the BIOS maintaining this now you've changed the battery?

I have an old T23. Two months ago it suddenly stopped charging the battery. It seems as an IC problem. Therefore, I decided to buy an external battery charger (ThinkPad Multiple Battery Charger II, P/N: 22P9040), and a new battery, since the old one could drive the T23 for less than, say, 15 minutes. After receiving the charger and a new battery (from two different suppliers in USA), I found a strange problem: the old battery is charging normally, but operates for 15 minutes, or less, and the new one is not charging - the orange light flashes permanently. After that, I decided to buy another new battery, this time from Hong Kong, but the whole story repeated. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I have an older SL510 laptop, which has been working very well. But recently the battery power was continuing to diminish until recently, it stopped holding a charge altogether. At this stage, the orange battery indicator started to blink continuously at a rapid rate. I am still able to power up the laptop with my power cord connected. Purchased a new battery to replace the old and assumed light would go to green after charging. Unfortunately, after several hours connected to the charger, the battery light continues its constant orange blinking. Went through the process of uninstalling the ACPI file as noted in another post. Followed these steps:1. Disconnect AC2. Shut down3. Remove battery4. Connect AC5. Startup6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of Microsoft's ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall (note that it is all right if you only have one).7. Shutdown8. Disconnect AC9. Insert battery10. Connect AC11. Restart your computerAfter completed this process, battery light continues to blink rapidly and battery doesn't seem to want to charge, or provide any indication that battery is inserted in computer. This happens whether I'm using either of the 2-power adapters I have for this laptop. What can I do to get this fixed??? Thank you in advance for any assistence provided!!!

My laptop suddenly stopped charging since yesterday. It is hovering around the 5-7% range since yesterday and continues to say that it is charging, when in actuality it is not. I have tried to reset the laptop, as well as uninstall and install the ACPI drivers, but nothing seems to work. It has only been a month since I got this laptop.  Any help would be appreciated.

I am not sure how you think we can help without knowing the model or product number. Once we have that we can find the manual which will show exactly how to get to it and what parts you will need. Without it, no way to know.

Hi, I'm having problems charging my gateway laptop unless I wiggle the charging pin and power brick a certain way. I have tried replacing the charger and battery. It doesn't help. Also If I run on straight AC with no battery the laptop will shut off if it moves due to the contact problem. Does any one know why this happening?

Thanks for the Help.

Also its a gateway t-6859 laptop.

Answer:Laptop has problems with charging unless I wiggle the charging pin.

how old is the laptop sounds like your ac in port has de-soldered from the psu part of the motherboard. its the most common thing to break on laptops since they get a lot of stress from the cables pulling on them or they are built cheap either way. is is it still in warranty?
