Erratic Mouse/Screen Behaviour.

Question: Erratic Mouse/Screen Behaviour.

Hope someone can help and this is in the right place, please move it if not - but in words of one syllable please for a computer idiot if possible.

Last few weeks my mouse (MS wireless 1000) has acted strangely in that sometimes, if I scroll down then the screen will shoot upwards again so I have to scroll down again but sometimes works fine and it's driving me mad! Not sure if it is a mouse problem or something else. Computer says it's working correctly. Also makes no difference if I change to new batteries. Some help would be very much appreciated; thank you.
So glad I've found this forum, I've missed the ComputerActive one since it shut down!

Sorry, Zoostorm W 7, Home Premium x 64.

Preferred Solution: Erratic Mouse/Screen Behaviour.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Erratic Mouse/Screen Behaviour.

I think that your scroll wheel encoder has a fail. Did you dropped any liquid over the mouse?
I would try any other mouse with scroll wheel (wired or wireless).

It is a logitec laser mouse, I even tried thier software but it was the same, so deleted it.

After I have used the computer for a while, my mouse changes behaviour. It requires that I do another click to deactivate whatever action it was doing.

For instance, when scrolling down a directory of photos, if I don't click before moving the cursor from the scroll bar to the photo icons, it will highlight all the photos it passes over...

Same kind of behaviour when I clone part of a photo in Photoscape. If I don't click after finishing the cloning, the cursor will hang on to the cloning brush and drag the cloning over everything it goes over, even the function buttons (undo, redo..) at the bottom of the screen.

Is there a way to avoid this?

My computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad T520 with Windows7. Thank for for any input regarding this issue.

I have a 9 month old HP dm1, (Win7 / 3GB / AMD Fusion Processor), that is driving me crazy with it's erratic mouse behavior that I hope someone can help me with.

I have tried many different makes of wireless and even 2 different makes of BlueTooth mouses, I have tried it with the computer's touch pad turned off, as well as turned on. I have checked and installed all known updates to the system and the drivers. Scanned for apparent IQ conflicts and even signal interference. Yet, it continues to exhibit a "mind of it's own" regardless of which program is running. And yes, it does the same thing if no mouse is attached and I'm just trying to use the built in touchpad all by itself.

What happens is that the mouse pointer just randomly jumps to some totally random part of the screen, and begins entering my typing there. Or, it will randomly highlight a block of text, and as I continue to type, it erases what I had previously entered and over writes it with what I was in the process of adding. Or it opens up some menu, or even "click on" a link ! IT IS SO ANNOYING !

Any ideas what to do to stop this erratic behaviour ?

Thanks

I have been using PS/2 mouse for a long time. I threw my old PS/2 mouse because it was acting weird. The mouse icon would automatically move to the left side of the screen and stay there. Sometimes a jerk used to fix the problem. At other times I had to plug in the SERIAL mouse because the mouse stopped responding to the side scrolls. It would move up and down but not go sideways. So I thought it was a problem with the mouse and threw it away. I got a new PS/2 mouse and after like a month the old problem resurfaced. Now I think there is a problem with my PS/2 port. What can be the problems with the PS/2 port and how can I fix it?

Thank You.

I recently acquired a second-hand desktop Dell Vostro with wireless keyboard and mouse. I am running Windows 7. Recently, the wireless mouse behaves erratically before ceasing to move altogether betwee 2 and 5 minutes after boot up. Sometimes, pushing the wireless reconnect button on the receiver fixes the issue for 30 seconds or so.
After Googling the issue, I've tried the following:

connected wired mouse - works fine
connected wireless keyboard and mouse to another system - also works fine
new batteries
move receiver
remove anything which may be causing interference
removed and reinstalled mouse driver
using different USB port

This is slowly driving me insane. It seems others had the issue but no clear resolution from my searches. Any help is much appreciated.

Answer:Wireless Mouse - Erratic Behaviour

If you have PS/2 connections then get a wired keyboard and mouse. Bin the wireless shite.
If you don't have PS/2 connections then get USB keyboard and mouse.
I'm a firm believer on saving someone's sanity.

Hi:
The PC did not shut-down upon clicking 'turn-off' in the middle of the screen. Also, I.E. and O.E.6 both can not be opened.

However, strangely, other programs, i.e. Word, Excet and the like are perfectly able to open upon clicking them.

Any clues on this would be truly appreciated.

thanks,

I recently purchased a Qosmio DX730 and the wireless mouse behaves erratically. It jumps about the screen and is just about manageable for basic use but practically useless for any detail work such as graphics manipulation. This isn't related to any particular program, happens with all software and windows desktop. Things I have tried but it doesn't solve the problem;
1. changed the batteries and resync'd
2. talked with toshiba helpline, uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled
3. searched for updated drivers (none)
4. tool wireless keyboard, mouse and transceiver back to shop and exchanged - still go the problem
The wireless keyboard works fine

I was wondering if I was getting some wireless interference but have turned off all other electric and electronic devices in the local area = no difference. I am reluctant to just give up and go to a plug in mouse because it is brand new. Any help appreciated.

Answer:Erratic mouse behaviour on Qosmio DX730

in the events of a faulty hardware it is always a good idea to see if the hardware behaves in the same erratic way on a different computer. so i would advise you to do this - if it's still erratic, theres nothing wrong with your software setup or hardware in your computer like the USB ports and most likely its a fault in the mouse itself

if its not erratic, we can get cracking on your problem =]

Often but not always, ON. greys my target but does not transfer to its page on the first attempt. I had tried waiting patiently for the transfer without any success. I discovered that, when it seems to hibernate like this, I can get my desired result by re-requesting the Screen Clipping feature. 2nd attempt always works -- never fails. Any ideas why I have to repeat so often ?

I received the Envy for Christmas and it started right out of the box.  I don't see the HID Compliant Touchscreen driver mentioned above, so can't delete that.. any other suggestions.  It doesn't seem support has been helpful for those that have called.  I hope they release a patch for this at some point.  I have to 2 "orbs" in the upper and lower right corners of the screen.  Then there is a flashing one that overlaps the lower right "orb." Sometimes my cursor will lock on one of the orbs/circles. Everything else about the Envy I adore, but these circles are annoying.  :/

Try re-installing the touchpad driver. You can download it from the Acer website which is appropriate for your country. Their UK website is here: http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/cont...If you need a different country, scroll down to the bottom, and on the right-hand side click "United Kingdom" which will bring up the complete list of countries.message edited by phil22

I have been using and UPS with my PC without problem for more than 20 years, but for the last few months it has caused eratic behaviour. My current UPS is an APC Back-UPS RS 1500. This gives me a good 22 minutes breathing space when the power is cut according to the countdown on the LED screen. However, as soon as the alarm goes and the UPS seamlessly provides power from its charged battery, the control of my mouse becomes increasingly more erratic and it takes several minutes and much patience, not only to place the cursor over relevant parts of the screen, but also to wait for those places to become active before I can save work and turn off. Only with a reboot does the problem disappear. The UPS is not totally useless, as I can save work, but its usefulness is only a fraction of what it should be. I'm assuming this is hardware related, but if anyone thinks my thread should be moved elsewhere, feel free. Any ideas?

Hey guys,

Ive recently encountered a strange problem on my laptop, but what it is i cant describe properly. I start up my computer, and ill find things like my mouse going on right click uncontrollably and my desktop icons and toolbar is frozen. This sort of stops after i exit from windows live messenger 9. But afterwards my mouse seems to spring into a life of its own, uncontrollably flashing with the right click option.

All this happened after i 'blue screen of death'ed once and received a virus link from one of my msn contacts which i DID NOT open.

Malwarebytes scan and AVG 8.5 showed no infections. Im not going to attempt ComboFix just yet

Please help, thanks in advance

Question: Erratic behaviour

Hello guys. I think I might have a problem. About 2 days ago I started getting errors about different Windows services not working (can't remember exactly which, but if needed I can dig up the logs). After I got these, I also got a series of BSOD's. I managed to restore my laptop to a previous checkpoint via System Restore, as Windows downloaded some updates and I thought these were the cause. I also did a check disk and a defragmention of my drives, together with a Spybot and NOD32 scan. Cleaned what I found, and I thought that was that. After all of that, I started getting warnings from NOD32 of attacks, coming in from the C:\Windows\TEMP folder, all blocked. They were about 25 threats in the last 24 hours or so, and before all of this happened, I never got any.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi to all.... I've been using Nero 6 reloaded for ages now, to convert avi files (divx) into dvd playable format. So far i've had the odd error now and again as everyone does, but now its pretty much unusable. It'll usually transcode the movie but not burn onto a disc... it just spits the disc out.
I've tried various possible solutions such as updating nero, which didn't change anything..... then i decided to try the free trial of nero 7 which just restarted my PC halfway through trancoding. So then I uninstalled all nero products and re-installed nero 6 which gave me the same results as before, although i used it to burn a data DVD.
I then upgraded my firmware for my DVDRW drive, which didn't help either.
I also used housecall web scanner which found loads of worms that it cleaned form my PC.... as my antivirus (ntlnetguard) has proved itslef to be total crud.
I've tried intervideo dvd creator which also restarted my system halfway thru transcoding.
Just to clarify... I have tried different video files (not the same one) all with the same results. Also, I use good quality media which i have used for quite some time now.
I was thinking that maybe something has got in my PC and is corrupting everything as I very often get a pop-up to tell me that windowsexplorer or nero or internet explorer (etc) has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I hope someone can shed some light on this:
In the last 2/3 days I have found the following issues on my PC running 2000 SP4:
a wallpaper icon of the Bee Gees (!) flashes whenever I shutdown or use ALT/CTRL/DEL; sometimes (at random) multiple windows are opened and the mouse will move in directions not wanted.

I believe this to be caused by a virus of some sort, however my AV (CA eTrust) is up to date, has not detected anything during scans. I ran Spybot and AdAware and the issues reported were fixed, I also run ZoneAlarm Pro and this has not alerted me of anything. I never open mail attachments unless I know where they come from and delete any SPAM emails I may receive.
I have searched extensively the best known AV sites, but none seem to list this type of behaviour...has anyone out there?

Answer:Win 2000 Erratic behaviour

go to here and download 'Hijack This!'.
First make a folder on your computer in my documents called Hijackthis and then Unzip it to that folder.
Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I'm hoping somebody can help me out on this one. I have a model 36984SU Helix with the keyboard attached. Whenever the device is plugged into another monitor and then the laptop is closed, the cursor has a tendancy to start behaving erratically (jumping around on the screen in what I would describe as jolts). I have not seen this behaviour when the laptop is left open. I have, however, seen this behaviour both with the laptop connected to dual monitors via a docking station, or connected to a single monitor via the mini display to VGA. There is a bluetooth mouse installed, however it is turned off and rarely used. When the laptop is closed a USB mouse is used. Regardless of whether the USB mouse is plugged into a docking station or directly into the Helix, there are still issues. I've run through all the driver updates that I can think of, including Synaptics drivers both directly from the Synaptcis website and from the Lenovo website. I've also installed the mouse software here http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/pd005570. I also tried thoroughly cleaning both the screen and the trackpad to no avail. It's especially frustrating given how intermittant the issue is, and how I don't have a method to reproduce the issue which I can use to verify that a fix was effective. I completely disabled the trackpad and the issue stopped occurring, but that wasn't a good enough solution as the trackpad needs to be used at times. One of the driver updates se... Read more

Answer:Erratic cursor behaviour

I actually just thought to update the BIOS, hopefully that will do the trick, but I might not know for certain for another week or 2 given the intermittance of this issue.

Hi,  9mth old G50-70 Laptop,  the touchpad has a mind of it's own. Every now and then the touch pad seems to think I have left a finger on it.  This obviously causes issues with multifinger gestures and makes the laptop virtually unusable while it's in this state.I've removed and re-installed the latest elan driver, and even ran the laptop with the windows driver only and also removed the multifinger gestures and the problem still happens.  Saying that, I don't believe it's a driver issue, to me,  it's more a electrostatic issue.  If I lift the laptop off my knee, desk or sofa arm or press a few keys like space bar, the problem disappears after a few goes - but in the meantime,  I've lost the screen I am working on because it's resized, or links I haven't intentionally pressed have been selected.  Also I cannot actually select anything myself as when I eventually get the cursor over the X for instance, double click,  then the pointer just moves away.  It only seems to happen if there is a lot of disk activity - so as you can imagine, it happens when I intend on using it and it's very annoying.  This problem happens for about a minute, every 30 minutes.   I think static is building up on the facia. The problem happened in Win 8.1 and still with Win 10.  Does anybody have this problem?

Answer:G50-70 Touch pad, erratic behaviour

The touchpad on my ProBook 450 G3 has behaved erratically on and off for the three months I've had it.The problem:Sometimes the touchpad freezes if I rest my hands/arms anywhere on the brushed metal top (the keyboard tray, for want of a better word). The cursor won't move, scrolling and clicking doesn't work. If I hold my hands so that no part of my hands or arms touch the metal, not even on the edges, it will work ok (but I look perfectly ridiculous doing it). After a while (usually only a minute or so), it starts working normally again. And then, a few minutes later, seemingly at random, it happens again. At first, I thought I must be just a freak occurrence, then, when it kept recurring, that I'm doing something wrong. But the exact same thing happens when other people use my laptop.I'm guessing it's a hardware issue, because the only explanation I can think of is that my hands somehow ground the touchpad through contact with the metal casing (or something like that, anyway), and I'm fairly sure it's not supposed to do that.Any thoughts on what may be causing this, wheter there are som settings that might fix the issue, or any helpful hints?Apologies if the topic has already been covered - couldn't find posts that seemed to fit when I browsed the history.

Hi,  I am facing the problem of touchpad erractic behaviour the cursor keeps jumping around. The problem happened after I cleaned the touchpad with wet tissue. First I thought it was the moisture that maybe causing this issue however it has been 4 days now the problem continues. Over the threads I have seen that re-installing Synaptic Touchpad driver has resolved this issue for some people but it did not work for me. Any other suggestions?  How can i deassemble the touchpad only of the top cover in order to clean it? If there is any dirt that made into the frame of the touchpad. Thanks

Answer:Synaptic Touchpad erratic behaviour

Hello and welcome! Sorry for the wait.  Did you change out your battery lately with another one or have the original charger to your laptop? Those things can cause issues with the touchpad. I wouldn't recommend taking out the touchpad yourself, it is not very easy to do and plus you will have to take out a million screws to do it. I would take it a local repair shop or try out a USB mouse.

PC3 is an older machine on ground floor running Win ME. I have installed the same linksys usb wireless adapter. I have spent hours on the phone to Belkin & Linksys! PC3 sees the router/modem but cannot connect to the internet. However, by some fluke yesterday it did connect and all was fine. Today for some reason it will not find the net again. Ip address etc and settings remain the same, have rebooted modem/router and PC1/2/3 to no avail. Can the weather affect it?? Signal etc seem to be good. It's driving me mad! Thought I'd cracked it yesterday only to find that it's back to square one today. Suggestions/tips appreciated.

Okay, I've fiddled with this for a while now, a couple days ago when I turned on the computer I would get an error message saying how system/config (something like that) was corrupt. I then googled this and did not really find a solution for it. Almost all of the people that encountered this problem did not know where the source of the problem was. I figure I would give reformatting a shot. After formatting, I figure that I can now use my computer with no worries about more problems but then now different problems appeared.

When I turn on the computer sometimes it would boot up nicely with no problems at all but sometimes it would not boot. The computer hangs right before the windows xp flag appears with the loading bar under it. What I see instead is a different loading bar (DOS style) that spans the entire width of my screen. I thought maybe this was just a problem with my installation of XP, so then I go and boot into my Ubuntu installation (I use grub bootloader and the two OS's are on their own partitions on the same physical drive) and the Ubuntu freezes at the loading screen as well. I went through testing each component of my computer afterwards.

I figure that my processor should be okay since I managed to get this far while loading the computer (I could be totally wrong on this part). I also tested the RAM with memtest86+ that was on the Ubuntu disc. I finished one pass with no errors so I guess the memory is okay. The graphics card should also be okay si... Read more

Hello

Very often but not always, when I boot the portable (Satellite M40X-186 Windows XP SP3) , after a while, the window Windows Media Player pops-up. I shut it but it reappears etc...very often also there is an erratic behaviour : the keyboard is inoperable or the letter which appears on the screen is not related to the key etc...or the cursor moves in an irrational way.
I have scanned all files for viruses (Avast tool) I have reinstalled XP, updated the ATI driver... but that does not seem to have solved the problem.

Any idea what is the cause of this malfunction ?
Thanks if you can help

Hi, People,

Just joined in the hope someone has a solution to this. My wife has a Vista Home Premium laptop on which she runs Quickbooks 5 for our Church accounts. In the past when sending printouts of balance sheets etc. to other members by email she was only able to use text files. For correct layout and formatting, it had to be snail mail. But I realised (yesterday!) that by using the xps document writer the printouts could be transmitted as email attachments and retain their original layouts and format.

BUT

When attempting to print using the xps writer (which happily appears in the printer choice box) we get the error message " Could not print to printer. Check your printer selection. Printing may have been cancelled by another program".

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling dot net 3.5 also the xps document writer itself to no avail. The xps writer works correctly with other programs for example Microsoft Word.

I thought it might be a problem with Quickbooks, so tried it with an installation on my XP laptop. I had to install dot net 3.5, but then it behaved perfectly, although if I cancel the save dialog I then get the error message which would appear to be particular to Intuit - the suppliers of Quickbooks. It does not appear if I cancel the save dialog in Word.

OK, for the occasions when the feature is needed I can transfer the files to my laptop and produce an xps document there. But not exactly satisfactory!

About the only difference in... Read more

Answer:xps document writer erratic behaviour

No response so far alas. But it seems strange that the file will 'write' in XP but not in Vista. Does anyone know where the Vista xps writer driver loader is located? Maybe if I (temporarily!) remove those files, I can get Vista to use the files supplied in dot net 3.5 They obviously worked in XP so maybe..... Incidentally I now have a 'true' printer installed on my laptop, and the xps writer still works ok, so no conflict there.

Cheers,

Peter.

I haven't used my PC for a while and after booting it up and applying all the Windows 7 updates I find that my keyboard defaults to CAPS lock and when I press 4 I get the $ symbol regardless of whether I have turned off the CAPS lock.
Also, my mouse middle scroll wheel button acts as a double click on the mouse. For example, if I am in a directory and want to scroll up or down the upward motion selects one of the entries!
Something else I noticed - when I try to open Firefox it now will try to open in Safemode or gives me another option to Refresh Firefox.
I wondered if my PC was getting interference from my MAC so I turned the MAC off but this did not rectify the issues.
I have rebooted numerous times but the same problems continue. I have also uninstalled the mouse / keyboard software and reinstalled as well as checked to confirm that my language and keyboard settings are all set to English UK which they are.
I then thought about using Restore Point to go back to before the updates were applied but the only Restore Points available exist after I made the changes. So all restore points prior to yesterday have gone.
I have conducted a full virus and malware scan and all appears OK.
Any ideas as to what has caused this and how I rectify?
Thanks.

I am having some strange problems.... the power snapped off in the neighbourhood causing restarts of my computer.  I have no idea how many times it happend.. My symptoms are varied and intermittent:  the wacom tablet freezes but I can use the regular mouse;  I can access MSn but not google: my monitor blinks brighter in the blue menu areas,  photoshop froze when webroot started a scan, and when it ended, the photoshop workspace was missing except for the images and the palettes!   it was still frozen an hour later.  when my monitor flickers, my cpu fan seems to change momentum...i did a check for damaged ram and that seemed fine.  this morning the computer was its spunky old self, but then after an hour I had trouble receiving email and accessing sites...... verrrrrrry slow.are these symptoms of the beginning of the end??    is it just the power supply? or are these virus spyware symptoms?   I keep getting clean scans with webroot and trend micro.  I finally uninstalled adaware and spybot and microsoft beta in case they were conflicting. they didn't find anything either.I don't want to ahve to reformat my drive if I don't have to.help!

I just rebuilt a R40 for a friend using an XP Professional SP3 CD.Once I had XP installed and the security updates loaded I installed the Lenovo System Update and got the drivers installed through that method.  It installed the current version of the UltraNav driver V14.0.18.0, but something screwy is going on. Sometimes during boot up the cursor will start hopping horizontally to the right edge of the screen.Trying to "force" it back doesn't work well as it keeps trying to "hop" off the right side of the screen. Also the UltraNav icon does not always show up on the taskbar even though I have it turned on. It does this (but not all of the time) either with or without a USB mouse installed. Just now it was behaving properly and I was using the USB mouse to change settings within the UltraNav control panel. I changed one of the settings and the cursor went into "stupid" mode right away and hopped off the right side of the screen. I now have it set so that the touchpad IS enabled and the trackpoint is DISabled. If I check the box to enable the trackpont the cursor immediately starts to hop off the right side of the screen and can not be controlled. I have to use the keyboard to turn off the trackpoint function and regain cursor control. Have I got bad hardware here or .... driver issues....Again the cursor "hops" off the screen in about 1/2" increments and is not drifting "smoothly" off-screen.... Thanks for any help!Jim

Answer:cursor / mouse hops horizontally across screen to the right - erratic w/ trackpoint enabled

Hi Jim,I suggest downloading and booting from a Live CD of any linux distro, if the curser also hops in linux then it definitely would be hardware issue.I also recommend running lenovo PC Doctor's diagnostic test on the keyboard.Hope it helps.

The DVD drive for this model is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT30N.

From a previous post I was lead to understand that it is normal for the drive to click on boot. Once I have logged into W7 (after about 2 minutes) it will click again.

If I go into the PC Diagnostics Tool, it will click again.

It has also started clicking at random moments, which is very annoying.

I think this changed when I was fiddling around with one of the TOSHIBA options. I am guessing this could be either:

Toshiba TEMPRO
PC Diagnostic Tool
PC Health Monitor
Service Station

This really could be anything, but it is now so irritating that I have disabled HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT30N in devmgmt. I would rather not do this as I will have to keep enabling and disabling.

Any experts out there who understand the weird workings of this setup?

Hello

I have done some extensive testing on my Windows 8.1 Tablet downloads speeds and its extremely slow. The download speeds vary greatly from second to second; it will achieve 50kb/sec then the next second jump to 30kb/sec then back to 40kb/sec and continue this erratic behaviour. *It also looses connection or experiences very slow speeds when you move more than 5 metres from the Wireless Router.

Is there anything others have done to improve/fix download speeds on their Windows 8.1 tablets? By inspecting the hardware specs below; could the cause be the hardware or is it a software issue? *See my note about how our previous tablet and laptop also experienced these issues but resolved them itself.

Some important information:

I have tested the download performance of my tablet against another tablet (with half the RAM) and a Laptop. All devices are on the same networkAll devices use wireless connections to downloadI am in Australia where our internet speeds are terrible. So a good/great download speed is anything over 500kb/second. My ISP is Telstra BigPond. An interesting thing to be aware of is that the Laptop and the other tablet also suffered the same symptoms when we first got them; ie, weak wifi strength and slow speeds. Eventually the problems ceased (for the tablet - after about 6 mnths). Maybe the router or wifi adapters learns? Or maybe Windows Updates fix the problems? My tablet seems to always be using 99% of the Disk or 99% of the CPU even though I am not doing... Read more

Everything seems offline, problems only occur when trying to access certain websites i.e. Adobe, Java, Youtube videos etc. There were also strange start up programs with Chinese characters. This applys to both IE6 and Firefox (latest version). Exact same problems on my Mums computer that runs off the same router.

The problem first occured yesterday (19th) when Spybot search & destroy picked up a trojan called Win32.AutoRun.tmp. I deleted this file and everything seemed fine until today. I ran all the tools as suggested and will put MGtools.zip in a new post.

OS Windows 7
Windows Live Mail (one account)
Until recently all email messages received appeared in the inbox of the email account. However, recently some of my emails do not appear in my inbox even though I can see that emails are being downloaded. I have not set up any filters to block email messages and indeed some of the emails that "disappear" are from friends in my Contacts. One further quirk, the messages that do not appear in my inbox DO appear briefly in Quick Views but then they disappear immediately after they are viewed. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows Live Mail Erratic Behaviour

Taking into account these e-mails are from your contacts, are you sure the new e-mails are not being grouped with old e-mails from them? Try looking in a previous e-mail from them and see if a new one is there, a bit like 'conversation' mode. You can try this by getting a friend to e-mail you twice to see if you get two e-mails or they are group.

Also, try:
> Click on the View tab,
> Click on the Conversations button/drop down,
> Change the value to Off by clicking on off.

The WiFi of my ASUS Zenbook UX303 works only erratically. Touching it or slight movements may improve signal strength.

To explain, I need to tell the whole story.

In September, just 9 months after purchase, the mainboard broke. I had to send in the notebook and the German technical support center replaced the mainboard. Fortunately they did not wipe the hard drive.

When the notebook returned I noticed that the lid was not assembled 100% properly, it was off by just 1mm. A little ugly but I do need to get some work done and it did not appear to inhibit functionality. Two weeks later the right hinge started to break because of this error in assembly. I had to send in the notebook again. They fixed both hinges, replaced the screen bezel and wiped the hard disk.

When the notebook returned this time I noticed that they had heavily scratched the hinge cover. And here is the core of this story:

Also the WiFi did behave strangley, the connection was a lot worse than before and sometimes only worked when I lifted the notebook 2 inches up from my lap. The behaviour is erratical. Just touching the notebook might boost the signal strength from 1 to 4 bars.
My suspicion is/was that during the hinge assembly they had forgotten to reconnect the WLAN antenna which is mounted in the lid. Or maybe they failed to mount it properly.

I reported those errors and, yes, had to send it in again.
This time they replaced the lid cover but did not bother to fix the WLAN. They did not wipe t... Read more

I have used Malwarebytes and OuptostPro Security suite and MS malicious removal tool to check my machine but nothing has been found. However when running Combofix the problems I experience are temporarily pacified then a day or two later the problems start to manifest themselves. The unusual behavior first began (that I noticed) after an unattended Windows update that forced a re-boot. From that point onwards I experienced the following misbehaviour of the PC;1.On shut down or request to enter sleep mode where as before my PC would wind down within less than a minute, now the process can take three or four or longer. More often than not Windows will announce that some service  continues to run in the background and presenting me with a choice to kill it but I can't because the (wireless) mouse cannot move. So the OS just hangs there at the same time fading out the desktop.2. When coming out of sleep the initial process is prompt. However once I've entered my password the action response of Windows can be; the screen contents comes up fast but there is a long delay - several minutes sometimes - before mouse activity is possible. BTW I notice that when this happens the mouse comes active shortly after the audio manager announces, on the task bar,  that speakers have been connected. It's as if device drivers are being held back. The other route the system may take (when coming out of sleep) is that all open applications appear as empty frames, black in the middle. Again... Hi all

My father recently had a spyware problem with his laptop that I've tried my best to solve. Chrome seemed to be hijacked. On opening it, there was nothing but a white screen and no menus etc would load. A clean install of chrome resolved this.

More sinister was AVG failing to load since it was 'blocked by a group policy'. Malwarebytes uncovered some threats, but AVG stayed non-functional. I edited the registry to get AVG to start and ran a scan on that that uncovered some examples of JS/Exploit and removed. Both AVG and MWB say the system is clean and all seems functional, but I'm not 100% convinced.

Answer:AVG Blocked by Group Policy/Chrome erratic behaviour - still spyware?

Hi FranMar67

Your post is two days old. If you still need help-- download, run and post a FRST log and we will go from there and see whats going on.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system, download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version. Looks like you can get the 64 bit version.

Right-click FRST then click "Run as administrator" (XP users: click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
    When the tool opens
    click Yes to disclaimer.
    Press the Scan button.
When finished, it will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool was run from.
Please copy and paste the log in your next reply.

The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory the tool was run from). Please also paste that, along with the FRST.txt into your next reply.

Troubleshooting a fairly new HP laptop. Had been infected with a virus. Cleaned it all up but was experiencing erratic mouse behavior. The customer claimed the behavior started when he got hit with infection. While the pointer itself moves fine the left and right mouse buttons intermittently act like they are being held down causing the pointer to drag and highlight everything in site. At other times the buttons do nothing at all. At other times the left mouse button triggers a rightclick menu. And at other moments all mouse control is fine. This occurs equally on the touchpad or when using an external USB mouse. I tried disabling the touchpad completely but the problem still occurs when using the external mouse. I tried updating the sypatics touchpad driver but that made no difference either. I finally resorted to wiping and completely reinstalling windows but the problem still persists. For the hell of it I then updated the BIOS firmware but that made no difference either. All keyboard function work fine so I have been having to resort to using the arrow keys and alt tab and such to navigate around. I ran a Passmark Burn in Test and everything passed.

A couple of additional points. I ran the Hirens Boot CD which is similar to the Ultimate Boot CD. I then booted into the Mini Windows XP and the same erratic mouse behavior occured so this is clearly not an operating system issue. Also when I wiped and reloaded Windows I used the HP Recovery partition and ran thei... Read more

Hi,

I recently found my Windows Explorer working erratically at random times. I would use Windows explorer and it would be fine normally unless I was spending lengthy amount of time with an open folder in Windows explorer and opening another WIndows for a different folder and copying, moving or saving new or current files from other folders and/or from new pdf files saved for example and it would usually start to act behave erratically which could occur after an hour or more when I would suddenly right click to save or perhaps move a file and then it would start highlight in grey or black that part the cursor right clicked and suddenly another, and then I might try closing it and when it re-opened the same behaviour would occur again. If I tried continuing doing so it would get to the point where the cursor for Windows explorer just goes round and round continuously or just freezes and won't close and I have to restart my computer.

I have scanned my laptop using my own security tools, Avast Premier and Malwarebytes Anti-malware, as well as the online security scanners Panda Cloud Cleaner and ESET online scanner. None of those found any issues. I then ran sfc /scannow and no integrity violations or issues showed up. I then also ran Windows Memory diagnostic test which showed not issues with my RAM.

I have attached two files showing examples of what happens, and would appreciate any help and advice on what I could do to fic the issue.

Answer:Windows Explorer's erratic behaviour - Windows 8.1

If this problem did indeed start recently have you tried doing a system restore to before the date it started ?  Depending on whether or not you have the 1703 Creators' update installed it is either 'Win key+X - Control panel - Recovery' or 'Win key - Settings - System - Control panel - Recovery'.

Once you get to 'Recovery' start the 'Restore' process but pick a date that is from before the start of your problem. You will get a warning that this is irreversible, just accept the warning and continue the restore and let it finish before you try to do anything else.

Question: Erratic Mouse

Recently both my Wireless Mouse and my ordinary Mouse are behaving rather erratically, there is no apparent reason for this.I did try Restoring ro an earier date, and this did work for a short time, but it has had a relapse. Can anyone advise a cause of action.Trilby2

Answer:Erratic Mouse

When a wireless mouse starts getting erratic,it is usually a low battery problem. Best to use rechargables, if you haven't already done so.Erratic movements can also be caused by 'fluff' etc on the ball rollers. Unscrew bottom of mouse cover, remove ball and clean.

Question: Erratic Mouse

I'm not sure what kind of issue this may be. I have tried replacing my mouse Marble Logitech with a new wireless Logitech one but the issue is still there.
While playing games on facebook the mouse pointer has shifted(you have to move the pointer around to slightly below or slightly to the side to click what you want-Some games I cannot even open because of this -Its also hard to close game windows since the "X" doesn't work where it should you have to move the mouse around and find the area that works to close it.I am using windowx XP and google Chrome as my browser.
Yesterday I posted on Major Geeks Facebook page and they told me this "Get SlimDrivers from our driver section and update your drivers. Odds are the USB drivers are out of date compared to the mice you are using." I did download it and it said the drivers was out of date I fixed it and rebooted and the issue remains .I posted on the wall 2x's but noone seems to be answering so I came here.
Hope you can guide me in the right direction

Answer:Erratic Mouse

HI

What Windows Service Pack is your XP at?
What is the exact model of your Logitech mouse? (generally the wireless mice form Logitech are called Wireless Mouse Mxxx where xxx is the model number)
Are you using a Desktop, Laptop, Netbook?

Have you uninstalled any software or driver that was installed for your old mouse? what I would do is uninstall all software and drivers linked to the mice and then reboot and install the latest mouse's drivers.

Reason I ask about laptop/netbook is maybe disable the touchpad.

What surface are you using the mouse on, try a different surface to what you are using now, different mouse mat, or a dull none shiny surface.

Since loading Vista Enterprise, I experience an erratic mouse whilst typing.
It is all over the place and it jumps all over the text, resulting in typing wherever it goes.
This is very frustrating!!

1. I have set the mouse settings to have the mouse cursor not visible whilst typing and only appear when Ctrl is pressed.
2. I am not moving my hands over the touch pad - the mouse seems to have a mind of it's own.

is there anyway to fix this?

Question: erratic mouse

Just after start up my mouse becomes erratic with a mind of its own. It clicks on things opening and highlighting everything it touches. It becomes totally unworkable and I have to close down and reboot. Often it is still the same when I start up again. I have been told by one department at microsoft that it is a microsoft problem but they want me to pay to sort it. Is there anything I can do myself. Would appreciate some help with this annoying problem. Thankyou

Answer:erratic mouse

I would only guess one of a few things could cause that. Try a restore point to a time when it worked maybe for the first try. See help and support for restore point. It should allow you to go back in time when the mouse did work. I guess you could get a new mouse too and try it.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. Everything was fine until this morning. When I fired up my laptop running XP, my mouse was behaving badly. It now double clicks on its own, refuses to move windows, and fails to drag anything including text and files. I am a massive halo fanatic and my itch to play will soon turn into a full blown psychotic episode if I can't fix it soon!! So for my comps sake (not to mention the unfortunate people around me) please help!

So far I have ran every antivirus and spyware check possible. I have even uninstalled the mouse driver to no avail. Im running XP Pro so it automatically reinstalled it for me on reboot. I have also tried scolding my naughty little mouse. I even raised my hand in an attempt to horrify it but it merely sat there unflinching! Well anyways I tried the mouse on my sisters comp and it works fine. The only thing that I did out of the ordinary last night was defrag my system before I went to bed! I cant think of any other solutions so anything anyone might suggest could help! Thank you!

Question: USB mouse erratic

Hello forum, it's my first post. First of all, I've tried multiple mice, this one is a brand new Logitech, works fine on the other computer. Sometimes it works fine, but other times it is very erratic. I've turned off some of the default touchpad drivers and it helped a little, and I've gone into add/remove programs and msconfig to delete or turn off possibly conflicting processes. Is there any way I can prioritize my mouse above other processes? It almost makes me want to get a different computer, which is a Dell Inspiron. The Intel Core i5 processor was a huge let down; I thought it would be much better, and this mouse issue makes me want to throw the computer in the trash.

Answer:USB mouse erratic

There are a variety of possible solutions for this issue.1. Have you tried another usb port?2.Do you have the latest mouse driver?3.Is there a battery in your mouse if so is it in good condition?4. Have you gone to the system tray on your Inspiron and disabled the touch-pad  function?truenorth

Question: Erratic mouse

I installed Windows 10 on day one or two of the upgrade and have been using it since on my Toshiba 64 bit laptop. It was an upgrade from 8.1. A note that this laptop is a touch screen that I cracked, disabling the touch function a year or so ago. No problems on Windows 8.

I use Chrome as my browser and initially could not open any tabs on Chrome. That quickly resolved with some uninstalls and reinstalls I think, but no longer an issue.

From the beginning however I've had problems with what I call "erratic mouse". I've been looking but have not seen others id this as a problem. It was a frequent problem in the beginning but seems to be resolving, maybe?

It is an all of a sudden problem. The mouse will not stay where it is. It jumps to the top of the screen and starts clicking on other tabs or, seems to right click on the url setting up boundaries with big tear drops then bringing up cut and paste windows. Answer:Erratic mouse

I'm replying to my own post to update it and to document for later reference what is going on. Since I've had no replies on my original post, I assume this is an original problem.

On 8/18, the "erratic mouse" happened again on a couple of occasions. I can confirm that the "Windows Button" does NOT resolve the problems as I originally thought, I needed to unplug the laptop to reboot it a couple of times. I also think I can cause the problem to repeat. When I shut the lid to put the laptop to sleep, the failure occurs within a couple of minutes of bringing awake. I was able to repeat it 3X already.

Trying to explain the erratic mouse a little better .... as I said earlier, the mouse starts doing it's own thing. Many time it "brackets" a section of text in the URL on a web page with what I will call "bubble sliders". They look like bubble type markers with points on the top that delineate a section of text to copy or cut. After the delineation occurs, a small rectangular box appears with grids containing copy, cut and paste sections to click. I have never seen anything like it in any application or app. Other things and clicks occur also, just cannot get control of the machine back needing to power down.

I also looked in the event log log for items around the time of failure and am seeing nothing giving me any clues.

I just "Cleaned up" (registry repairs, etc.) my R50, and now the mouse cursor does not follow my mouse in real time, but runs all over the place when there is any significant disk activity. Does anybody know of a cure for this? I uppose it is related to the priority of pointer input interrupts vs. HDD interrupts vs. display update interrupts, but I have no idea where to start finding these priority levels, or how to change them. Please help. Kron.

Mouse movement is erratic and jumpy, often times skipping to the sides of the screen in arbitrary directions. When not jumping around, the mouse moves normally and controllably.

Hello FoSho,

This is my first post to a reply on a forum so take it easy on me :)

From what I have researched from Microsoft Support and Help site that there have been issues with optical mouses not functioning properly in Windows Vista. You can refer to the Microsoft support article at this url:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932653/en-us

They do have a hotfix for it, but you have to submit a request to Microsoft Online Customer Services to obtain the hotfix at:

Question: Erratic mouse

Hi
Ive just joined this forum and would welcome some help please.
My mouse jumps all over the screen, opens up programmes and drop down boxes on the desktop without me even touchin it, sometimes the pointer disappears totally. I can sometimes cure this by ctrl/alt/del and then just close the task mgr box, other times I have to reboot. I'm positive this is not a hardware problem, but a virus type thing. I've actually changed the mouse and no difference. I did have the same problem some time ago, got help from another forum, had to run various programmes, including Hijack, posted logs etc and after deleting files as advised, the problem was solved. Unfortunately the person who helped is no longer on that forum, and nobody else seems able to help. I run XP, semperon 3000, 1 gig ram.

Question: Erratic Mouse!!!

For two days now, the Trust Optical Wireless Mouse that I use has been playing up (I have an Acer Aspire 5105 laptop, and generally use this mouse rather than the built-in touchpad). This 'misbehaviour' seems to be limited to those occasions when I'm using Windows components, such as regedit, msconfig etc, and have to choose options from drop-down menus; I scroll down, release the mouse and the menu returns to the beginning, as if there were a spring there. Same thing when I use the bottom scroll bar; if I drag the bar towards the right with the mouse, when I let go of the mouse, the scroll bar returns to the left. I end up having to use the keyboard arrows or the touchpad to choose menu options. The only real change to my pc, apart from the usual Microsoft updates, has been the removal of Comodo Firewall and AVG antispy ware.Florio

You presumably have a driver disk for the mouse - try loading it again - it should only take a few moments to do.

actually a trackball, Microsoft Explorer 1.0 that is. Running on Win2k, SP4, Dell Precision 360 PC, usb converted to PS2 connection.

I have gone thru the Spyware Trojan Removal process at http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 thru step 4. HAve not completed Step 5, did run Hijack This and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Ran Bitdefender, ADS Spy, adn maybe another from the list after Step 6. No issues. Windows Update has been run, but am wary of removing MS Java since a work product definitely uses JAVA and I don't want to break it.

Problem is: the mouse (trackball), at times, jerks around, even gets stuck in a spot, but then eventually recovers. Acts as if something is so taking up the CPU time that there's no extra for the mouse to use/move.

I had this problem a few months ago and was sure I had some nasty infection, so I used it as a motivator to rebuild the system from scratch (SW). Even wiped the boot sector (cause a rebuild w/out that step had the same problem show up). WOrked for a while, and now, it's baa-ack.

A regular mouse, Dell/Microsoft Intellimouse 1.3A works fine. THe previous iteration of this problem had the regular mouse also going to erratic behavior eventually.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse driver. Same w/video (nvidia) driver (since the mouse started acting funky after an upgrade to the video driver - I think but am not 100% positive).

Question: Erratic mouse

Hi.

I've got a mouse problem that has developed independently on two different computers, one Win98, the other Win ME.

The mouse works OK when it is moved slowly, but behaves erratically when moved quickly. For example, if the pointer is in the middle of the screen and the mouse is moved quickly to the left, then the pointer will typically move crazily about in the middle third of the screen and usually end up on the right.

Drivers and mice have both been changed to no effect. The ME computer now has an optical mouse, so it can't be a mechanical problem.

The Win98 mouse is on COM1, the ME mouse is a PS/2.

I've fiddled about endlessly with the port settings on the Win98, changed ports etc. No effect whatsoever.

Any ideas?

Regards,
psmyth

Answer:Erratic mouse

I am not sure this will help, but it is something to look at.

You didn't specify the mouse brand, but usually most come with software to adjust the mouse.

What you want to do is look for the mouse speed and acceleration. Be sure the speed is set to medium...and that acceleration is set to low. It sounds like the acceleration may be set too fast, causing the mouse to act erratically

Hope that is helpful

Ok well I just finished reading all of the mouse threads I could and nothing seems to help my problem. This happens when I am on the internet usually, but it will occasionally happen off of it also. Question: Erratic Mouse Pad?

Every now and then my mouse pad begins clicking erratically when just trying to move the mouse elsewhere on the screen.Perhaps it's due to sweaty fingers or what not, but I've tried changing the mouse's pressure sensitivity and found it to not really solve the problem. To diagnose the problem, I've simply just shut down the laptop and turned it back on and wiped off my fingers. However, why is this a problem to begin with? Is it because oils from the skin are left on the pad and causing deviations in pressure when I have my finger on it?Thanks

Hi Guys

I recently bought a Logitech wireless mouse. It worked fine at first - but lately it seems to stall when I try to move the pointer. I replaced the AA battery with a new one - but it still has the same malady. Sometimes it works fine - for a few minutes - (ten?) then the pointer stalls on the screen no matter how I move the mouse. At this moment it works fine.
Any thoughts

I have a wireless mouse that has a mind of its own. It is a Logitech Performance MX mouse. The mouse acts normally for a few minutes and then jumps all over the place, and it is frustrating and hard to control. Sometimes it even gets temporarily stuck in position. Then it seems to "snap to" and act normally. I replaced the mouse with a wireless Microsoft mouse, and exactly the same symptoms prevailed. I changed ports for the antenna. I reinstalled the Logitech mouse software and I brainstormed the issue via Google.

But the problem persists. It definitely appears to be an "internal" problem. Is there a system setting that could be affecting it, some interfering software, what? I had a similar problem a few years ago and it seemed to correct itself by itself and I never discovered what was causing the jumping and lagging.

Has anyone else experienced this mysterious erratic behavior? I would appreciate any suggestions to fix the issue.

After logging in, as soon the desktop and my mouse appears, the mouse movement starts to be very slow. It respond a bit late and I get only 2-3 new mouse image (the position where the mouse is) per second. After some time everything goes back to normal. WHen at the logging screen, it goes well too. I don't think I changed something before it started to happen, but I could be wrong. It does it with both my wireless mouse the the synaptics touchpad one. I have a laptop. Finnaly I think it started to happen when I beginned to use it without the battery in when on AC. But I'm pretty sure I tried to boot it with the battery back in and it did't solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated since the only time I goes back on vista (from linux) is to play games and I don't want to wait for the mouse to be back to normal to play.

Answer:Erratic mouse at startup

I changed the video driver for another reason and it got rid of the roblem by the way. Stupid vista

About a month ago my Microsoft wireless optical mouse 2000 started behaving erratically. When I would first turn on the computer, it would work fine for awhile and then start its tricks. I read solutions and first changed the batteries. Whoopee. problem solved - for perhaps a day - and then it was back. I then changed the USB port and same story. It worked fine for a day or so and then the same problem was back. I did not try it in another computer as I didn't have the time to wait to see if the fix was only temporary. I also cleaned the darn thing and got a different mouse pad. I ran internal problem solving and got a good report. I concluded that the mouse was just worn out so I bought a new mouse MS 5000 which again seemed to have solved the problem. Yes, you guessed it. This one is behaving erratically, too, but its behavior is somewhat different. This one is jumpy. I am presuming it is a software problem but I don't know where to turn. I have downloaded the TSG SysInfo but don't know how to add it to this post unless it is done automatically. In case, I am using an H-P desktop running W-7.

Some weeks ago I asked for help on an erratic MicroSoft mouse and received helpful replies. After working for a short time after my last report the mouse became unusable. Since I had some work that had to be done, I went back to a wired mouse and keyboard. After catching up, I held my breath and tried the optical again. I have been using it for about a week and so far so good. Well, almost so good. Occasionally it will not obey me all that well - much like my children - but when I lift the mouse up into the air and then set it back down, it behaves. This makes no sense to me and may not work if things are really bad but I have my fingers crossed.

Answer:Report on an erratic mouse

Lifting the mouse up shouldn't make any difference...

I suggest cleaning it (make sure there isn't any hair or lint inside the mouse). Take the mouse apart and use a can of compressed air to remove any debris.

Also try using it on a difference surface, even just putting a sheet of non-glossy paper down.

I went back to a wired mouse and keyboard.Click to expand...

From this I take it the erratic mouse is wireless, yes?

If so it will have a battery, I suggest replacing the battery with a new one and cleaning the contacts with an alcohol based (fragrance free) cleaning fluid.

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (bought from BestBuy) which I understand is identical to Thinkpad Yoga 460.  I have been using it for the last few weeks and everything was fine. In the past few days, the mouse has started behaving erratically.  Specifically: When I drag a window to move it, the mouse loses its grip half way through the motion, and then re-activates itself.  When it does that, the window I was moving stops, and the mouse clicks on (or selects) whatever happens to be below where the mouse cursor is at that moment. When I try to select some words or a paragraph in an editor, the mouse will reset itself and my selection gets reset.  I have try over and over again just to select some text (so I can do copy/paste, etc.).  Again, sometimes it will reactivate itself halpfway and select (or auto click on) random and unrelated stuff. Now, normally I am not moving the mouse very fast, or very slow.  I have varied the speed and movement but to no avail. I see this behavior with an external USB mouse (on different surrfaces), with the trackpad and trackpoint, as well as the touchscreen. It started recently and it is infuriating to say the least.  Lenovo Companion says everything is up to date and I haven't updated anything in the last couple of weeks. Has anyone seen this behavior?  I would be grateful for any recommendation to solve this issue. Thanks!

About a week ago, my mouse, at random times will go crazy and open random things. The pointer will jump jump from one end of the screen in fractions of a second, too fast to see. It will also open various windows. When I try to move it again it continues on with the erratic movements. I can not figure out what is triggering this, or if I have some kind of virus. Usually I hit escape a couple of times and it goes back to normal. Any ideas?

I have been experiencing erratic mouse issues for the last couple months and feel like I've tried everything yet nothing fixes it. I've spent hours reading forums & blogs, googling etc and still the problem persists.
The mouse (movement AND scrolling) hesitates then jumps drastically across the screen. 70% of the time it's just annoying & bothersome but mostly functional, 20% it's non-functional and the other 10% it works fine. After switching mice numerous times, at this point I'm sure it's the computer, not a mouse issue.
I have an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. My current mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000.

Here's what I've tried already, none of it has worked:Rebooted (numerous times, duh).Tried a different mouse (on my 4th mouse).Removed former mouse software.Removed & reinstalled and checked online for new drivers (Intellipoint 7.0 software).Tried different mouse settings including checking and unchecking "Hide Pointer While Typing" and "Display Pointer Trails".Bought a high quality mouse pad.Changed batteries.Cleaned lens/used canned air on lens.Tried different USB ports for the receiver.Tried Microsoft "Fit It" troubleshooter (Microsoft article 321122).Ran spyware/malware via my Microsoft security software, no issues found.Since this is a desktop, not laptop, it's not a touchpad issue.I've tried many other google tips found as well but can't remember all of it.If anyone knows what ... Okay.. I do not know exactly how to explain this, and I have seen there are a few out there that have this same problem...however, I haven't found a solution and I am beyond frustrated for spending the money on PSE9. I use PSE9 for scrapbooking and sometimes when I resize, move, draw, erase,....pretty much do something with the mouse, it is as though where ever I am clicking, the mouse is clicking somewhere else. Has anyone had this problem, and if so, is there a solution? I have done the ctrl + alt + shift...and it still happens. I have uninstalled and then downloaded from the site and used my serial number....I have it on disk. I have updated it, and still nothing....any help will be much appreciated!!!! Oh, most time I see the problem...people have some kind of tablet...I do not.

I'm on a laptop running Vista Home Premium, no optical mouse, no external anything, and the mouse is jumping all over the place. I primarily use this system for email and it takes 20 attempts to get through typing an email. because the cursor randomly moves and next thing i know I'm typing in the middleo of a sentence I've already written. I've got McAfee running, so shouldn't be any crud on the system.

What am I missing? Is there a simple fix to this? I've searched forums and not seen a clear, concise answer for this.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:jumpy/erratic mouse

Hi, not sure if this applies to you, but toshiba has a thing out about having the mouse problem. They said it is fixed when you use a 3 prong plug instead of the one they supplied which is a two prong. It still may be something completely different for you though.
