I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Win7 RC1 installed on three machines. Two are 64-bit and one is 32-bit. On the 64-bit desktop and the 32-bit laptop, everything seems to be running OK in the Devices and Printers window. However, on the 64-bit laptop, the Devices and Printers page doesn't load. The green bar moves across, then stalls after several minutes. I can install a new printer or device, but I can't configure or delete an old device. Any assistance is appreciated. The two laptops are identical Dell Latitude D830s, except that one runs 32-bit Win7 and the other runs 64-bit. It's the 64-bit one that's having problems. At the very least, if there are other ways to install, configure and -- especially -- delete printers and devices without using the control panel applet, I would greatly appreciate learning how to do it. Is there a good way to connect a bluetooth keyboard to multiple PCs w/o having to remove the device and repair?
At the moment, I have a Microsoft Bluetooth Wedge Keyboard that I use with my Samsung Ativ 500t tablet. However, I recently bought a USB bluetooth adapter to use w/ my laptop at home (which I use as a desktop b/c of its size). It worked, but when I went back to connect the keyboard to my Samsung tablet, the tablet couldn't find it. I was already out of range from my laptop, so I'm fairly certain my keyboard was not still connected to it. The only way I could get it to connect on the tablet was to remove the device, and repair. Is there an easier way?

Answer:bluetooth keyboard to multiple devices

No. A Bluetooth HID device will only Pair with a single computer to reduce confusion and mistakes. It is possible that moving your USB BT adaptor to the tablet might transfer the pairing if you disable the Samsung internal BT, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Microsoft has announced a new compact Bluetooth keyboard with a dedicated switch to jump between Android, iOS, and Windows modes. The Universal Mobile Keyboard was built with portability in mind. It?s easy and quick to set up, especially on the go. Simply open the protective cover and the keyboard automatically turns on, and connects using Bluetooth. Shut the cover, and it instantly turns off.
The cover has an integrated stand that can easily be detached, so you can position your tablet in the most comfortable position.
The Universal Mobile Keyboard will be generally available in October 2014 for the estimated retail price of $79.95 at the Microsoft Store and at various other retailers.

Ok, I'm probably not the first person to ask about this.
Why on earth, can I not see any of my connected network printers under 'Devices and Printers' of Windows 8? The devices are without question, 100% connected and registered with the OS, as evidenced from their presence within the 'Print Queues' section of
Device Manager, and various software packages, when accessing the 'Print' dialog. I can't even find any evidence of the printers within Print Management! What is going on?

I finally came up with a solution to this problem.

No printers were showing up under Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
All printers were visible using print command in any software. I just couldnt set a default printer, remove obsolete printers, etc.

I then found the "Print Management" utility and it solved all my problems.

Answer:No printers visible in Control Panel > Devices and Printers

How did it solve your problems? What did you do once you got there?

I know, another question about Windows 10!
I have several devices that, according to the 'Get Windows 10' app, will not work or might not work after upgrading, all under 'Qualcomm Atheros Communications'.
They all refer to Bluetooth, and I am using a wireless Mouse/Keyboard combo, HID, that I fear may not work after upgrading to Windows 10. They work fine on 8.1. I'm running a Samsung all-in-one desktop that was released 2-3 years ago. I checked the Samsung software that came with the PC, and apparently my Bluetooth drivers are up to date.
So, multiple questions really;
- Has anyone had issue with HID Mice/Keyboards on W10?
- Has anyone had the same flagged issues as me?
- Are my keyboard and mouse even anything to do with this?
Thanks for any help, peace of mind would be great! I've included the list of flagged devices below;
Devices that aren't fully compatible:
- Bluetooth Audio Device
Devices that may not work correctly afterwards:
- Bluetooth Hard Copy Cable Replacement Server
- Bluetooth AVRCP Device
- Bluetooth HID Device
- Virtual Bluetooth Support
- Bluetooth LWFLT Device

I've got the same fear with my Acer. It's got similar messages about it. I found a newer driver than what Acer has on their site(8.0.1.314 compared to 8.0.1.308) and installed it, but it made zero difference.

Hi
I have installed the following printers:
Epson LX-300+II, HP Laserjet 1010, HP Colour Lasterjet 1515, Canon IP5200.

The printers work and are all displayed from Word, IE, etc, but only one printer shows up in Windows 7 Devices & Printers - usually whichever is selected as default printer. If I remove the displayed printer, it shows me another one. When I first installed, it showed me all the printers, but problems started after I had to remove and reinstall my printers.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

As the title says, I have a user's machine here that is displaying some weird behavior. There are multiple printer driver's installed, but only a single HP printer is showing up in Devices and Printers. Printmanagement.msc shows a single printer, but 5 drivers (including PDF, OneNote, etc.). No amount of reinstalling and uninstalling has done a lick of good. I've gone through and uninstalled all the bloat that comes with the multiple printers he had installed in the past, no dice. I've checked the registry (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Devices and PrinterPorts) and everything appears normal. I've reset the spooler, stopped it, cleared the windows\system32\spool\Printers, restarted, nothing. I've gone through everything I can think of. I really, REALLY don't want to format this machine over a printer issue (especially a virtual printer), but I'm getting to the point where the time i've spent on the task is outweighing the time it would've taken to reimage.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Answer:Devices and Printers - devices being displayed multiple times

Looks like Ghosts of DLNA devices. Start by taking offline any DLNA capable gear, reboot the Gateway and also clear its IP Table.

Also clear out those ghosts from Devices and Printers.

For some reason this started in Windows 7, when Microsoft started to play games with DLNA and media Shares.

This is the second time I have had this problem and I cannot remember what I did to fix it the last time. I have been searching for the last couple of hours and nothing is working.

When I try to print I get the message that no printers are installed.

What I have tried:Found print spooler was off. I re-started and the printers re-appear but then disappear again.
I "started" the bluetooth services and set to auto per the threads I found while searching. No change.
Tried the MS fix printer tool. No change.
Re-booted about 100 times (slight exaggeration).
Re-installing drivers does not help.
Something is causing the print spooler to turn off. Help!

New printers do not display in Windows 8.1 Devices and Printers (no icon):
New Dell, clean install:
- Reinstalled Dell Factory Image
- Updated to Windows 8.1
- Installed Office 2013
- Added BUILT-IN Windows Driver for LaserJet 5P/5MP
- Added Epson driver for Windows 8 64 bit from Epson website
Neither printer shows in Devices and Printers.
Rebooted. Stopped and started print spooler. Checked registry and all printers, including the new ones, appear to be listed in all the correct registry areas.

Open Notepad, select Print, both printers are listed.
Both printers print. When in Notepad, select Print, I can right click on the printer, select properties, and control the printer, print test pages, change drivers and preferences, etc.
The ONLY PROBLEM is the printers do not show in Devices and Printers, so I cannot control them from there. Problem is reported in Microsoft Forums but of course replies are stupid ... like "did you try to reboot?" and "try using a supported driver". In my case the LaserJet driver is a Windows 8 built-in driver.

I've been trying to use Windows 8.1 from the Desktop, and the printers don't show up. I just found that if I go to the idiotic Apps screen, use the Charms bar (Windows +K), and select Printers ... all the printers are listed there. So it appears Microsoft broke Windows 8.1 Devices and Printers?

My friend happened to look in Devices and Printers, and in the Multimedia Devices section he had about 10 devices showing up that he never heard of. Six of them were computers with names that he had never heard of, the others were devices that we could not tell what they were.

I expect that these entries mean that at some time they were on the same network that he was on. Would that be correct?

If so, then it is a matter for concern because he never goes on public networks. He only goes on his network at home, and a network in a small office that he rents and shares with one other person. They have their own router with security set up on it, and that router is connected to an Ethernet jack that most likely goes to a switch on a network that also provides internet service to some other offices in the same building.

This computer is only about 2 months old, so these entries can't be too old.

When I looked at his computer, he was on his home network and all those other devices showed as Offline. I right clicked on them all and removed them. Would it be a good guess that perhaps the security of the network at his office was compromised, and those devices were connected to that network at some point?

I told him to monitor and see when they reappear, but he won't be back in that office for 2 weeks.

Thanks

Answer:Unexpected devices appear in Devices and Printers

I occasionally see seemingly random devices show up as well on some of my herd here. I can always sort out what they are though since I know my network well.

Having said that;
Windows found these devices over the network at some point. From what you've described, it sounds like the office is where this happened. I'd see about swapping out the router there if they continue to show up since some older cheap routers actually allowed traffic from their WAN side to pass to the LAN. Haven't seen that in some time, but I'd still consider the router to be the prime suspect.

Because we've had the machine for 2 years, it's very difficult to find any information on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated: I confirmed that we purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad EDGE 0301CTO with bluetooth -- but until now, we have not ever tried to use it. [We're running Windows 7 [64-bit] on it.] There is no Bluetooth Control Panel with which to add a device [in our case, a bluetooth mouse]. The only information I can find lists using the Fn+F5 key to access a window to enable it [yet, this was for a different model]. Using these keys doesn't bring up any such window. I would suppose adding a bluetooth mouse would be much less of an ordeal than this is becoming. I must be missing something. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad EDGE 0301CTO - Enabling Bluetooth and Adding Bluetooth Devices

Hi, musesupport

If you enter the BIOS of your machine by tapping Enter at the splash screen (screen that says Lenovo while starting up), there should be a tab called Security. Open this tab and then select I/O Port Access. Is there a Bluetooth setting in this list? If so, is it set to Enabled?

If the Bluetooth is set to Enabled, then I would recommend making sure all the drivers (Bluetooth, BIOS, and chipset, in particular) are up to date. All drivers for your machine can be found here.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

Answer:Changing the names of my bluetooth devices in the bluetooth section of my lumia 1520

Go to Settings -> Device hub (located at the bottom of the list)
Once the Hub is up and running you can pin it to the Start screen. In the Hub you can rename your BT devices as you please once you have connected them and the Hub recognises them.

Hi all: I recently purchased a second-hand X61 Tablet. It shipped with Windows Vista and still has about 75 days left in the warranty.I installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it, but now I cannot connect to my Nokia cellphone. With Vista, I could connect to it very easily. But in Windows7, I go to "Add a device" and it just keep searching for a device without showing my cellphone. I have done extensive googling/binging and the following are the things I have tried: - Both Bluetooth services are up and running and set to automatic- My cellphone is set to bluetooth ON and radio discoverable- My cellphone can see the computer. But cannot pair with it.- I have installed various bluetooth stacks so now the 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device" driver not found error, is not an issue. I am at a wits end with this problem. I am actually debating going back to Vista.Anyone here who can help me with my misery?

Hello Webadict,

As far as I know, you can't change them yourself manually. However, you can check the Replace generic device icons with enhanced icons box in the Devices and Printers settings to allow Windows 7 to download custom icons for the devices instead if they are available.

Hope this helps,

Hi KLYNN,

I saw your post and would like to help if you are still having trouble.  If you do need help, can you answer some questions?

You have an HP Touchsmart computer.  What is the operating system for the computer including 32 or 64 bit?

What is the full name of your printer?  What is the Model # for the printer?

Can you explain, with as much detail as possible, the steps you were taking to install the printer?

Were you using a disk or download from hp.com?

Can you describe the "troubleshooting mark" and are you saying it is over the icon for the printer?

Have you ever been able to send print jobs to the printer from the computer?

I Have PC running Win 10 Pro, i5 6300 Skylake CPU, 16GB RAM, SSD Main Drive.
I have read a number of posts relating to my problem her, but none of them have fixed my issue.
Since upgrading to WIN 10 from WIN 7, I don't think I have ever had to look at Devices & Printers.
Just the other day, I installed my old HP 5280 Photosmart in place of my Epson XP630 witch is being serviced for Ink Smudging problems.
The Install went well and the Printer works fine.
I went into Devices and Printers to confirm which Printer was set to Default; the result was a Blank Screen. I tested this a number of times with the same result.
I checked Device Manager and the C5200 Series Printer was listed.
I have gone into Settings/Devices and it is listed there also.
I Googled the problem and found numerous post about Bluetooth Issues and Device Management, all of which when tested, failed to fix the issue.
On this Forum I found a Registry Fix, which when applied, made no difference.
Troubleshooting Printers found nothing wrong.
I would have thought that if Device Manager can see the Printer, surely Devices and Printers should also see it.

Surely this cannot be such a difficult issue to resolve - there must be a Setting or Value somewhere that is causing this.
I have not found anything put out by Microsoft in relation to this fault.

Can someone with experience of this problem provide me with advice that will correct the problem.

What is the significance or usefulness of this item? When I selected it, it showed several devices, but only one of my two DVD burners (LG)...the Samsung doesn't appear. The drive is otherwise visible and usable in the OS. I selected Add Device from the menu and a search window appears and says that it is searching, but it has continued doing that for over 10 minutes now, with nothing changed, except a higher than normal CPU activity. Bottom line is what is this feature's purpose?

Answer:Devices and Printers

I'm not sure of its purpose.

Mine shows my PC, monitor, printer, Microsoft XPS document writer, and fax. The last 2 are apparently part of the OS. No sign of my DVD burner. Right-clicking my PC brings up a lot of choices.

I'm having the same problem. Searching the internet seems to indicate the problem is related to a large number of generic volume shadow copies listed under device manager (when view hidden files is enabled). I have thousands of them that are grayed out but a few are not. I can delete them one by one but am having trouble finding a way to delete them all at once.

Windows 7 Professional 32bit, Gigabyte x86 PC.

Windows bluetooth discovery is not finding any devices. On my android phone I can turn on discovery and locate the PC, and it prompts me to enter the passcode on the PC. However no devices show up.

I have tried three different USB dongles and installed the generic Windows bluetooth driver. (One of the devices prompted me for a different driver which was downloaded and installed, but then the radio was not recognized) I've tried three different devices as well (a mouse, a trackpad, and the android phone).

I've installed "Bluetooth Command Line Tools" and it tells me that the radio is installed and working properly, as does the Windows device manager. Bluetooth icon shows in the system tray when the dongle is plugged in.

I've changed the settings in services.msc as detailed in other posts (changing to local account with my username and password).

I've turned off firewall and antivirus, no change.

Constructive ideas, suggestions, and opinions are welcome. I can't just throw it out the window, though, as this is a work computer. All I want to do is add a Bluetooth trackpad.

Answer:No bluetooth devices found, but other devices find the PC.

I've just installed BlueSoliel (trail version which will expire in 30 days) and now all my devices can pair and connect.

At this point it appears to be a Windows software / driver issue. I'd really like to track this down and fix it myself, I don't mind actually paying for the BlueSoliel software but I'm stubborn about 'stupid computer problems'.

Hello, my headset just broke which was USB...I have a laptop which I sort of dock on my desk with a dozen things plugged into it, and normally I have my computer speakers plugged into the headphone jack, which I use those for music, and then my USB headset for gaming/voip at the same time.

Anyway I went out looking at headsets and I found an awesome one but it was just copper rather than USB...however my laptop does have 2 headphone and 1 microphone jacks on it, so I'm wondering if its possible to have each of the headphone jacks as its own device so I can have different things playing to each one.

I'm googling and messing around with 2 different headphones plugged into my laptop right now, but they are both just playing the same thing And I only have 1 Audio device (which tends to be whatever is plugged in...Forexample if nothing is plugged in, it will come out the Laptop's Speakers, and If I plug something into the headphone jack, it will come out that and the speakers will mute. I'm using the Windows 7 default audio driver, because the manufacturer of my laptop (HP/IDT) was having major issues with Windows 7...However its been quite a while since I looked into that.

Update, just installed the latest Realtek driver, In Devices I can see both Speakers and Headphones, however the headphones are set as communication device, If I try to make them default device nothing happens.

Right now in playback devices it shows this:

Another example of how I want it to work is there's a racing game I play called iRacing, in Audio options you can select the device for game sound, voip sound and 3rd for spotter sound (computer voice that tells you when a car is on your left or right, things like that).

Right now on my laptop I have computer speakers plugged into 1 port, and a set of headphones plugged into the second. By default the game was on "Speakers and Dual Headphones", and it was coming out of the computer speakers and the headphones I had plugged in. When I selected VOIP to be "Independed Dual Headphones", the game sound switched to my laptop speakers, and the VOIP was now coming out of the plugged in Computer Speakers and Headphones.

I've just installed the all-in-one Canon Pixma MG5320 (under Windows 7 64-bit). When I check out Devices and Printers, the printer is listed three times:
Canon MG5300 series Printer
Canon MG5300 series Printer WS
Canon MG5300 series Printer XPS
These three choices also appear when I print anything. Why are there three? Which one should be the default printer? Which one do I choose when printing under what circumstances?
I believe that WS and XPS refer to specific drivers. Why is more than one needed? What are the differences?

I have a W500 with Win 7 32 bit, 4058-CTO.  I use a Lenovo Bluetooth mouse that works good.  But I cannot see or connect with any other Bluetooth devices. This laptop first came with Vista and I could connect to our cell phones via Bluetooth for data transfer.   I upgraded to Windows 7 and had not tried to connect to a cell phone until recently. I have tried many things - updating drivers, etc.   I have "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer" checked.  There are no errors.   When I click the Bluetooth icon in the system tray and select "Show Bluetooth Devices", I can never see anything. On my cell phone, when I try to pair it with the computer, it sees the computer, and asks for a passkey, but then times out. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:W500 cannot see any Bluetooth devices in Win 7, but Bluetooth mouse works

After trying many things in Windows 7, I decided to install Virtual XP Mode.  I had to enable the hardware virtualization in the BIOS to get XP Mode to work. After that, I was able to install the W500 Bluetooth drivers for XP in the Virtual XP machine.  The Bluetooth works perfectly with my cell phone.  So it seems that my hardware is OK.  I will keep trying to get Bluetooth to work in Windows 7 - maybe do a clean install in the future.  For now, XP Mode does the trick.

Okay, so I don't really know if a solution is out there, but here is the situation I'm in. I only have one available USB port left which I am currently using for the Logitech Bluetooth dongle that came with my Logitech K750 solar keyboard. I would also like to attach my Samsung wep410 headset for Skype calls.

I have tried to discover the headset with and without Logitechs software installed with no luck. I then checked device manager, which does not show the dongle as a Bluetooth receiver/device. My assumption from that is that Logitech has it setup to only receive from their own devices.

Since I have no room for another dongle (and a hub isn't really ideal). Is there some way to force the dongle to detect normal Bluetooth devices? I've searched for a custom driver or other work around with no luck so far. This is on a computer running Windows 7 64bit.

Hi

I've just upgraded to build 10240 and have found I cannot access Devices and Printers and I need to install a new printer driver as well as remove unwanted drivers for devices I do not have. I've tried all sorts of ways to access the dialogue but none of them work. I've tried accessing it via Settings|Devices, the Control Panel, the USB icon in the System Tray and the Run dialogue entering control printers. Nothing has worked. The previous build (10162) worked OK but now I just can't access Devices and Printers whatever I do.

Can someone please help?

Tracey

Answer:Can't Access Devices and Printers

Hi

Sorry guys it all seems to be working now. Straaange. In fact I was in the process of writing a message about another problem I had when I noticed that particular problem had gone away. I then installed my printer driver and then checked to see if I could open Devices and Printers. It came up sweet as you like and allowed me to do what I wanted to do. Since then everything seems to be working just fine. It was almost as though it was waiting for something else to happen before allowing me to open it. Still eveything is OK now but it does make me feel a bit of a fool for even asking the question!!!

As you see in the footer, I have Win 7 on my desktop. Something is wrong with it. If I click "Devices and Printers" on the Control Panel, I get a blank page/no icons or anything, and a green progress bar appears in the folder bar and progresses slowly to the end. Never stops, never shows anything. I tried to boot into Safe Mode (hold down F8 after restarting), but the computer also will not go into Safe Mode.

Ran sfc /scannow. No missing or corrupt files.

What's wrong?

Whenever I click devices and printers, the green loading bar gets to a certain point and refuses to load past there. It's been persisting for a few months now.

I've tried checking device manager and everything is working fine. I also went into bluetooth services & bluetooth support service and changed them both to automatic, but this didn't solve the problem either.

Hi all,

I am really stuck I have read everything I can find on this topic and tried all of them.

Our devices and printers console hangs and won't load at all.

Please don't mention the bluetooth services or bluetooth support services it doesn't work!

We are a domain running server 2k8R2 with all clients windows 7 32bit.

We have 300+ users.

We are having problems with just one user (will call this user1). I can log in on the same laptop with another profile(user2) and it all works fine but as soon as i log into user1 again its not working.

I have tried this with a different laptop and the same thing happens. This to me sounds like it with user1's profile but i have no idea on where to look.

Any ideas?

It sounds like the User Account or Profile for User1 has been corrupted.

You could try creating a new User Account and then copying USER1's profile info to the new account.

Hi.
I have a Win 8 (not 8.1) 32-bit installation and I can not get the devices and printers box to populate. The green bar across the top just keeps running. At times I can stop it, after a while, and I might see "2 devices" noted at the bottom, but nothing in the window. When it tries to populate, explorer.exe uses up to 99% of my CPU. I've run sfc /scannow a few times, always getting "Windows resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". I even booted into safe mode, and it still won't populate. I've read a few posts on the web that said to enable bluetooth, which I did, even though I don't have any BT devices, but that made no difference.

I just don't know what else to do. In order to access my printers, I have to go into Print Management. All my printers show there, and, of the ones I've tried, they still work - I can print to them from any program.

TIA for any help.

I have the problem probably for the past 2 o 3 months and never noticed it until I needed to access devices and drivers.

I'm hooking up the G53 to a HP Deskjet 6988 via USB and it won't print or even let me go to Devices and Printers so I can delete all the printers and let Windows recognize them fresh.

I tried searching my registry for all keys "m50vm-B1" and deleted them, then restarted. It didn't help.

Hi all

I have a windows 7 machine and I have been having problems with setting up my wireless printer. I have been able to sort the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling it (at least 10 times in the same day) but my question here is why I cannot see it in the printers and devices folder(control panel). In fact no devices appear in this folder.

Is this a known fault with windows 7 or just something I have done?

I probably never would have noticed except when having communication problems and various troubleshooters referred me to the the printer properties.

First I want to applogize if I posted this in the wrong forum, but I'm at my wits end! My mom is running Windows 7 and I installed and hooked up (wireless) her HP8600 printer in October and it worked fine. Since around November 29 programs hangs when you go to print a job. 'Printers and Devices' also hangs, displaying the green loading bar at the top, but never loads. I looked up the problem online and found a suggestion about starting and enabling 'Bluetooth Support Service', which I did and it worked for about a day. Looked online again and followed the recommendation to start in Safe Mode then in Regular Mode, which worked for about another day. I tried the safe mode/normal mode trick again, but it didn't work. Uninstalled Dymo label printer, but can't remove device from 'Devices and Printers'. I looked up her most recently installed Windows update (KB2762895), which was installed around the time all of this started, and found that it caused different application errors for some people, so I unstalled that, didn't work. Tried the hotfix KB2486635 after turning off 'Bluetooth Support Service', didn't work. Uninstalled the Hotfix and reinstalled the Update. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and turned Bluetooth back on. Also read to check enable bidirectional support, but that option doesn't always show up. I check it when it does, but it doesn't stay checked. The Hp8600 printer is the on... Read more

Why is it that i don't see my network listed in that area of the control panel?
I do however see a wireless setup NETGEAR WNDR4300 RangeMax N300 Wireless Router, which i can't seem to removed. I right click, hit remove and nothing happens. And it says its connected. Which is weird because I'm not using wireless and the only thing which is using wireless is a tablet. Could that be it?
also the netgear modem is not plugged up, so any ideas what is going on?

I happen to believe the netgear thing listed if messing with my internet speed. Idk for sure, just wondering could it be. My internet drivers are from intel, so shouldn't the intel network thing be listed there instead of the netgear thing?

My Devices and Printers won't load - most of the time. (When it isn't going to load, I get the green bar that goes on and on and on - and nothing happens.) If it doesn't load, I can't use the printer with my laptop. I have tried restarting the computer. Often, if I do this 2 or 3 times, the devices and printers will load and everything is fine. However, sometimes it won't. I need to fix this. It is extremely frustrating to take up to 30 minutes to start my computer with everything working.

Hello muppie. Welcome to the forum.

The green bar is Windows looking for and discovering devices in your system. If it is hanging on discovery that strongly indicates a failed/failing device, corrupted driver, or conflicting drivers.

Can you take a look in your Device Manager and see if any devices show a yellow (!) symbol?

I downloaded the latest Windows update just a bit ago. When the comp rebooted I had an Adobe Flash update (which I installed). Rebooted, then opened Word to print out a document and it couldn't locate any printers. Tried to "Add printer" and got the error "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable."

Perplexed, I decided to check my printers in Devices and Printers--and it is no longer there! Not that I click on Devices and Printers and it is black--the Devices and Printers option is no longer there when I click on the Start menu.

I uninstalled the Flash update and rebooted but that didn't bring anything back. Do I need to uninstall the entire Windows update next (it was a big update).

I'm using Windows 7 32 bit.

Hi, when I access Devices and Printers on my Samsung Workbook I just get the blue progress line which never gets to the end. I've run sfc /scannow, but get only a fleeting glimpse of a dialogue box which I can't read.

What started this off was trying to connect a wired HP printer which Win7 couldn't find the driver for. I found the driver at HP and downloaded it. The driver installed but didn't work. It was only when I decided to delete the driver and start again when I found this problem. I looked in Device Manager for Printers but there's nothing there - is that right? Where else do I delete drivers from if not from Device and Printers?

I also use a wireless Canon printer which I have no problem with.

My first question is if a device in this case is a SD Card shows up in Device Manager, but DOESN'T show up in Devices and printers, is this something to worry about? I installed the drivers from Dell for my built in card reader in my notebook. Then I put a new SD Card into the drive. Everything worked/works fine. It shows up in my Device Manager, and all over the place. However, the one place it doesn't show up in is the Device and Printer section. Any clue on why not? Thanks

Answer:Devices and Printers in Window 7

If you look in Computer, you will see it under Devices with Removal Storage. It will have the same icon as a hard drive, because although the SD card can be removed, the card reader can't.

The Devices & Printers folder shows hardware such as your printer, external hard drives etc..

Providing the device shows up in Device Manager the card reader is working OK and you have nothing to worry about.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that I had to restore to the factory Dell settings recently. After formatting the hard drive and re-installing windows 8 I noticed that the computer name in the devices and printers panel was Dell, Inc. instead of the computer name that I put in when re-installing windows. Is there a way to change the computer name in the devices and printers panel so that it matches the computer name in the system panel? I can change the computer name by going into the system panel but that doesn't change the name in the devices and printer panel.

Answer:Computer name in devices and printers

Hello jpk717,

Just to let you know that I have also tried to find a way to do what you are asking and I have come to the conclusion that it can't be done safely. I have searched the registry and the OS hard drive and was unable to come up with anything specific to that view. However, I was able to change the computer name and description "everywhere else" but there. With that said, my advice is to leave it alone because I have a funny feeling that information is/was embedded in a DLL during the installation process and cannot easily be changed; however, I have been wrong before so here's another chance for someone to prove me wrong again and earn a rep from me in doing so. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask if it's possible to remove the Device and Printers pop-up whenever I inserted my Nokia E5-00?

Here is a screenshot of what I mean. Taskbar icon and when it's clicked, this windows opens:

http://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...1&d=1327474611

I do not have any use whatsoever with this since I'm using Nokia Suite to manage my device and other applications to sync my media. Hope someone can help me resolve this.

Answer:How to remove Devices and Printers Pop-up?

I have absolutely no idea if this will help you or not. I found a similar complaint concerning an HP all in one printer. Every time someone in the office opened the scanning bed or inserted a page in the feeder to be copied, every computer in the office had the HP Device Manager pop up appear on screen. The solution was within the printer's own "Information and Settings" icon. The trick was to uncheck the setting to "Show HP Device Manager when document is..."

When your Nokia is plugged in, see if you have an "Information and Settings" icon or something similar, either in the Nokia Suite or perhaps within the pop up itself (like a "do not show this message again" box.)

Sorry I can't be more help.

I have recently purchased a new HP Officejet Pro 8620 and am currently having problems actually using it.

I have already installed the full-feature driver from the HP website but the printer does not appear in devices and printers. However my printer does appear in print dialog and the device manager. I have tried adding the printer through devices and printers but it has no effect.

When I try to print anything through print dialog or any application for that matter no print job is sent. Basically I can't print anything from my computer now.

I have already re-installed the driver multiple times only to come up with similar results.
Please note that this is for my main computer which is a HP Envy dv7. Also I have connected to the printer via the wireless router option.

However for my second computer which is a Dell XPS 12 everything worked fine right from the start which also connected to the printer wirelessly.

Answer:Printer does not appear in devices and printers.

Hi Bozodo and welcome to the forum. Have you tried uninstalling and deleting the drivers then doing a add printer in Devices and Printers to see if it finds it and installs drivers that work?

Also if a secure network you will have to go into the menu on the printer and enter the security pass phrase. You should get a message on the printer screen that it successfully connected to the network.

Work in a small business environment where we use roaming profilesSome users work in a different geographical location to where our file servers are keptConnection speed differs across all offices, from 2Mbps to 80MbpsRandomly, across any site, the devices and printers control panel can fail, simply will not load anymore
I have tried the following solutions:

Restarting/Starting the Bluetooth Support Service (unsuccessful) Rebuilding the user roaming profile from scratch
(successful, not practical)
The profile rebuild, is as follows:

Log off from the machine as the user, log in as an administrator and rename the C:\Users\user.name to _oldLog into our file server, move the profile folder for the user, to a new profile_old folderIn the file server, create a new profile folder (leave empty)From the user machine, access the ProfileList registry keys and delete the user.name keyLog in as the user, re-configure all settings/preferences, copy over all old profile data from the local drive back to it's rightful place in the new profile folder
After a profile rebuild the user is again able to open Devices and Printers.... Read more

Hi.

I've installed Windows 7 Beta 7077 several times now, and every time when I installed the drivers for the system (just UPEK Fingerprint reader new drivers, rest is Windows own drivers) it causes "Devices and Printers" to freeze up, not showing anything. Also I have noticed that the Bluetooth unit can't find any devices after that. As I can understand I can't install my printer now either?

Any solution to this problem?!

Answer:Devices and Printers freezes

You might try right clicking "computer" click the "hardware" tab and choose to adjust hardware installation settings. There is an option there to let Windows install drivers or ask you before or let you do it. I wonder if this is the solution to the problem you are having. Hope it helps.

Hi guys,

I have noticed that half of the icons under Devices and Printers have vanished
http://imgur.com/fwThQ.png

I have the 'yes automatically' option clicked in this option screen http://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...s-settings.jpg

Is there some way to force windows to download the icons again?

I would even be happy if i could get the default non enhanced icons back.

Have you tried system restore?

I joined this site because the thread on this does not fix my problem.

I installed Win7 Professional and the devices and printers windows was loading just fine. Then I noticed that it wouldn't load at all, and just get the green status bar thing across the top of the screen. Here is what I have tried:

1. Restarted the Bluetooth support service which is the preferred fix, and that didn't work.
2. Created new profile, and the windows appeared. However, as soon as I added a network printer, though the printer works and I got no errors installing, the Devices and Printers window is back to the not loading situation.
3. I have downloaded Win7 specific drivers for the printer and still the problem occurs only when I add a network printer.

Edit: I did want to add this was an upgrade from Vista Business that I performed. I have not, and am trying to avoid, reinstalling the entire OS from an image on the server. I did use CC Cleaner when in Vista, but I wouldn't think that was the issue carried over to 7 when the devices and printers screen works until you add a network printer. Just adding more info and glad to be here!
I am on a domain, though I don't think that is the issue. My partner has the exact same rig I do and is connected to the same printers and he doesn't have this problem.

HELP!

Answer:Devices and Printers not loading.

Updated information:

I completed wiped my machine and reimaged it with an image made from a clean install of Windows 7. As expected the Devices and Printers screen showed up without issue. I even added a network printer and things are fine, even after a reboot.

Now, awhile after the reboot, it's back to the same old thing again. Everything from the other articles are set right, but this is still a problem. I am installing EndPoint Encryption for the HD so that could be an issue. If anyone knows, please give me a shout.

Devices and printers just continues to search without finding anything. I have read in other threads where this is a Bluetooth support service problem and can be rectified by setting Bluetooth support service to automatic in local services. When I go to services and then try to set the Bluetooth support service to automatic it comes up with a message saying the specified path could not be found. How can I set the Bluetooth support service to automatically start when it says it can't find the path specified?

Solution found here.

Answer:Devices and Printers Not Loading

Ok, you set me to lookin When you right click on the Bluetooth Support Service, and choose properties, what is the path listed?

C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k bthsvcs

Now navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\bthserv

and see if the path there matches

%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k bthsvcs

As you can see, mine both match, they use a different method to list, but it is the same path. If your are different, let us know. Post screenshots if you can.

I have two Smart Samsung TV's. The firmware and internet functionality is updated via my wi-fi, but I can't recall ever having and connection between the TVs and my Desktop or Windows Tablet. The capture below shows that 40" set grayed out (it is currently turned off), and the 46" set is currently turned on.

Answer:Why do my TVs appear in the Devices and Printers window?

This is the picture that should have been in my message above.

Dear Win7Forums,

I am having an issue with accessing the Devices and Printers page in Control Panel. Each time I click on it-it never loads (look at the screenie to see my point). This may be due to an issue with my Bluetooth drivers. They install successfully but they can never find a device nor can I open any settings page for the Bluetooth. If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful....This is what is keeping my Windows 7 experience from being perfect.

Answer:Issues with Devices and Printers

I should have read beforehand but it seems that CCleaner (which I use regulary) does something to Devices and Printers which kills the page (probably will have to reinstall now....grr.....) but it doesn't fix the Bluetooth issues....any thoughts?

Hi,

I can not find a way within Windows7 to display a printers location. I have searched for the option to enable a location tab however I can only enable the following tabs/details about my printers:-

- Name
- Model
- Classification
- Device category
- Manufacturer
- Status

Is it possible to display a printers location within Windows7 like XP?

PS. I'm also having the same problem enabling the "comments" tab/field.

Many thanks

Nigel James

Answer:Devices and Printers. No location tab

Windows 7 v6.1 32 bit. PC on home network, Two PCs on cable and up to five on wireless. Network Printer. The Devices and Printers page of Control Panel will not load. Green bar starts across the top of the screen but does not complete. Printer still works with MS Office programs. Logitech Web Cam also works. The page opens in Safe Mode. The page does not open when all startup items are disabled in MSConfig. Any ideas?

Answer:Devices and Printers does not load

Normally because of a failing/failed device in your system.

Open up Device Manager and see if anything in the system has a yellow triangle on it.

I have "four" printers installed - one Canon MX922 printer with wif-fi, usb2, pdf, and send-to-kindle drivers. Computer is a Dell XPS 8500 with Win 8.1 and all updates installed. In Control Panel, whenever I click Devices and Printers, I get a progressing green line at the top of the screen. This goes on for about 1 minute before the screen populates. Not life-threatening, but certainly an annoyance. Can anyone help me get rid of the green line? I have tried unplugging and replugging suggestion in another post, with neg results.

Answer:Win 8.1 Green Line in Devices and Printers

Go to Search and type Services.msc and press enter. Find Bluetooth Support service double click it and set the Startup type to Automatic and Start the service.

The pc I am on shows up under the Devices and Printers window. From recollection, this did not happen in the past. I tried contacting Microsoft support and they ended my session before resolving the question. Do any of you know when this became a feature?

How to change icon in devices and printers ?
Is there an easy fix or step by step guide or even tutorial somewhere ?

Answer:How to change icon in devices and printers

Are you talking about these icons?
If so they are in the DDORes.dll in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 for 64-bit
You should work on copies of the .dll on your desktop using a resource hacker of some kind. After you have made your changes you will need to take ownership and give yourself permission so you can rename the old .dll and replace it with the new one
look at post #6 in this thread and it will tell you how

When I go to Control Panel > Devices & Printers, it takes a good 20 seconds for the progress bar to move across the window and the Devices & Printers window to open.

How long does it take everyone else here? Is this normal?

Looking at your specs could be your hard drive, which is slow, not windows 10. I have an SSD takes me about 2 secs and I show no progress bar at all. Their are much faster drives available then the one you have listed.

Hi guys, well I'm having issues with my win 7 laptop after resetting it. My video card is not been recognized and also does my ethernet and something called PCI Simple Communications Controller.

My graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.

I'm posting because I have read thousand of people posting in this forum, it really helped me with many stuff but I can't find a solution for my problem and I'm running out of patience. Ethernet and the other one simply says it has not the drivers. Now the funny thing is that I downloaded all drivers from Acer and AMD. Including ethernet and graphics. It says I have the last driver.

Can someone help me? I will really appreciate if you explain yourself step by step to how to solve it.
Attached to this post you will find:

From your screenshots, I believe you have an Acer Aspire 5740 laptop. You've done a reinstall of Windows from scratch, and you're now missing some drivers.

I believe you can get the Acer-provided drivers for your 5740 by going to the Acer download site and entering "Aspire 5740" in the product. If you haven't gotten all of these drivers downloaded and used them as part of your Windows reinstall, you need to.

In particular the "chipset" driver will most likely solve your "PCI simple Communications Controller" issue. The "Ethernet" problem will be addressed by the LAN driver. And the "graphics card" problem will be addressed by the VGA-ATI driver.

Try this. Most drivers may be automatically installed during the Windows reinstall by Windows Update. But other drivers need to be retrieved from the vendor site, as these appear to be.
