system was stuck in lock screen after sleep mode. windows 10

Question: system was stuck in lock screen after sleep mode. windows 10

i was stuck on the lock screen after setting power saver mode for both the system and screen, as well as turning on the screensaver. The screensaver did not have login enabled. i had to restart to login. What might cause this? recently, i did not have "turn off screen" enabled, but i had wanted to protect the screen. Also, screen saver was never on. But i changed "turn screen off" to 1 hour, while sleep mode was still 3 hours. screen saver is less time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a custom built PC (built last year) and recently when I lock my windows screen, after a few seconds it tries to go in sleep mode then it wakes itself up on its own then few seconds later it tries again.

1. I lock my screen
2. after i lock it, it brings me to my lock screen shows me the time and the temperature (its how i configured my lock screen via windows settings)
3. after about 8-10 seconds my dual monitors go pitch black (the power buttons remain blue and don't go off).
4. on its own, its as if its waking itself up, the monitors come back to my lock screen (also the monitor displays HDMI as if the monitor shut down and showing you the input its currently on).
5. repeat steps 2-4 (if I leave my computer locked it just repeats this cycle on its own)

I dont know if its related or not, but when ever this happens, in my event viewer it shows "event 10016" The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID.

I have all my power settings to tell the PC not to sleep, I have all power savings options related to monitor and PC off. I have no screen saver. When I am logged in windows, if I let the PC just sit there, I don't have this issue. Its only when I lock my computer.

New user, so apologies if I've made any mistakes in the formatting of this post.

I get intermittent freezing on waking from sleep mode, and indeed occasionally it wakes up immediately after sleeping.

I looked in the event manager and after 2 separate occasions of it freezing on waking up, it's come up with vwififilt as the culprit. I hope I've uploaded a screengrab correctly.

I can't find anything online which distinguishes why this file is not loading and causing a freeze on waking from sleep mode.

Any ideas on what I can do to remedy this problem? And also why I might be getting this sporadic problem of the system waking immediately after sleeping?

Answer:computer screen stuck in sleep mode

You should try another monitor to see if that's the problem but my guess is it's the computer and not the monitor. The monitor is acting like it's in sleep mode because it's not getting any signal from the computer.

Purchased in Navy Exchange last year (around July 2013)

I have dropped it once or twice from at most a 3ft fall inside a padded case. I mostly use my computer for school work, some gaming, extensive video/photo editing, internet browsing. I've installed some debatable programs but have been installed long ago. Most of my programs included Microsoft Office, Adobe suite, Steam, iTunes, uTorrent, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Winrar, VLC, etc. But are now gone due to the refresh I had just done last week for prior problems, but still experience problems.

I recently been having issues with my computer where it just won't respond at all. Like today, I had it working for a few hours, but then went out and left my laptop on the lock screen, and came back to it being completely stuck. Completely stuck as in, no keys or clicks would unlock the screen to the login prompt. However, my cursor was fully able to move around the screen, and my caps/num lock buttons work as they display the lights enabling/disabling them. The time when it was stuck was 8:03pm, but the clock was stuck on 7:55. But on the bottom of the front of the laptop, the HDD orange light is not lit up at all, which I believe suggest that the HDD is not reading/properly reading. Oddly e... Read more

Hey guys,

Recently, when I try going into sleep mode on my laptop, sometimes the screen just goes black/grey, but the computer doesnt fully go into the mode. Shaking the mouse, or just waiting for the long time does not work and the computer is stuck between being on and being asleep (I cannot go back to the desktop).

Do you have any idea of how to fix this?

Thank you!

Answer:Sleep mode leads to being stuck on black screen

Seen a problem like this before what you can do is try this. open services by going to - start - services.msc (in the search bar) - when this opens look for a service called "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" and if it is on disable it and try that.

Sounds like your video drivers don't come out of sleep.

Did you upgrade your video drivers from the Fujitsu website?

I'm having loads of trouble with Windows Vista's sleep mode:

I put my vista into sleep mode last night by accident (meant to select shutdown) and now i can't get it to work - the fan is whirring away as if it was on but it seems as if all of the USB sockets and anything plugged into the pc is getting no power?

The keyboard doesn't work (no lights on it)
The mouse doesn't work (tried a wired and a wireless one)
Tried putting a CD into the drive to wake it up - nothing
Neither of my monitors work (checked and swapped cables)
Switched it off at the switch on the back of the pc tower itself and swapped power supply cables - nothing

Short of opening it up and messing around, which will void my manufacturer warranty i'm stuck as to what to do.. i currently have a computer that's on but is completey inactive - any USB things i plug in briefly light up and then cut off

I've seen countless threads on how to avoid this happening again by going into windows settings etc, but none as to how to rescue my PC from its current state as i can't even see anything as the monitors won't work!!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

After a power outage 3 weeks ago I was having issues with the system going down at around 5 minutes and then less and less time after that. I was told it was a display issue and to uninstall and reinstall my display drivers. I uninstalled my drivers and it was still the same. I felt like it was temperature related. I found my graphics card (Radeon 5700) was dirty. I cleaned it and thought I was back in business. Everything was back to normal, all I needed to do was update my graphics drivers. Once that was done, my computer would no longer load past the Windows splash screen.

I used Puppy Linux on a flash drive and I have access to everything. I can use the internet and access all my files. This to me says that it is not a hardware issue.

The fact that when I try to go into safe mode it gets stuck for more than a day on classpnp.sys (when I finally give up). I understand that classpnp.sys has loaded but, there is something after that that the computer can't load. I have seen some people have atipcie.sys load after classpnp.sys and it makes sense to me that it would be a graphics driver that is causing the issue.

I need my Windows 7 up and running for school and work projects. Any ideas, thoughts, or help would be greatly appreciated.

Have no clue what it is. Ive done some reading on Mup.sys. It requires me to remove some 'USB card'. I dont really see any . Any advice would be appreciated or if you have anymore further queries let me know.

Hello everyone,
I have a toshiba dx1210 PC. About two years ago I upgraded the OS from 7 to 10.
Everything was running smoothly until a few days ago when I started the PC and couldn't get past the lock screen.
I then booted from a 10 repair disk but it was unable to automatically do a startup repair. I tried a system restore but it said that there were no restore points. I was unable to boot into safe mode by the usual methods but I eventually did it from a command prompt via the repair disk. I ran sfc /scannow but it showed no corrupt files.
Also I tried to restore from a system image on an external disk but it couldn't be found when plugged into a USB port.
I called Microsoft support and their response was that it is a driver issue because the Toshiba dx1210 isn't compatible with 10 despite the fact that it had been running smoothly for the last two years.
All replies welcome.

Answer:Windows stuck at lock screen

Hi, Please check your Update History. Have you had an update around the time this started to happen?

If it's a driver update, you could roll back the relevant driver and block that particular update.

I was unable to boot into safe mode by the usual methods but I eventually did it from a command prompt via the repair disk.

- I'd be interested to know how you did that!

Also try a disk check. As you can get to Safe Mode, you should be able to run the portable version of Crystal Diskinfo

I have a new computer that I just installed Windows 10 Pro on. (It's still not activated though.) It has all the latest updates.
So once in awhile when I try to log in after the box was locked (WinKey+L sequence), it gets stuck on this screen (just took the picture):

I saw this happen already twice. The first time it happened, I let it spin like that the whole night. Then in the morning, I tried Ctrl+Alt+Del, or quickly pressing the power button. The message changed to "shutting down" but that was it.
So eventually I had to press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds to kill the power to the box. That rebooted it...
Does anyone know why does it get stuck like this? And if it does it again, is there a way to "un-stuck" it without killing the power?
PS. This is a local desktop. It has a single local Windows account that is an administrator. The Windows account has a password, but is set up for autologon during boot. I installed this Windows 10 literally two weeks ago. So it's almost mint-fresh with the stock setup.

So actually I had a virus and looked up is to get rid of it.
Then I downloaded something to get rid of it and tried to do safe mode.
I did the msconfig thing clicked on network and clicked ok.
then it asked if I wanted to restart or restart the laptop.
So I restarted the computer and it lead me to the lock screen.
I then tried to connect to my wifi that does work and entered my 4 character long password.
And the wifi nor password work.
Please I need help Super urgently

The whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?

Answer:Windows 10 stuck at lock screen for a long time

Welcome to the TenForums @Taukonza

Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?

You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type

powercfg -h off

This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing

powercfg -h on

After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

Windows 7 sp1 to Windows 10 upgrade went well at first**. I was poking around the Windows 10 OS for a little while looking at an App or two. . . .

I chose to reboot. Now my machine boots to the lock screen. I see a photo background, the correct time and date (time updates properly) and one icon in the bottom right corner: the ethernet connection icon.

Of course, the mouse and keyboard work fine in the BIOS environment.
**At first, my full setup with multiple monitors, ATI Radeon 5770 video card, gaming mouse and keyboard worked perfectly well. This issue happened after my first manual reboot: start menu>reboot

Once I'm looking at the Lock Screen there is no response to the usb keyboard's input, nor usb mouse's input.

My PC setup at the moment:
(video card/multiple monitors removed, gaming keyboard and gaming mouse removed)
One monitor connected to the on-board video DVI output
basic usb keyboard and mouse connected (MoBo does not have PS/2 ports)

All systems are fully updated and well maintained:
CPU: Intel i7 (I don't remember the specific kind - Sandy Bridge generation, I think)
C: drive: Samsung 840 pro SSD
mother board: P8Z68-VGEN3
16gb RAM

I have a T61P type 6460-7EU, upgraded from factory original with Win 7 and a Corsair SSD.  This problem occurred months after those upgrades. The overall problem seems to display itself in several ways, so I'm not sure what is the root cause and whether or not the system can be repaired. A few weeks ago, I found that I couldn't resume after sleep or hibernate.  The system would start to restore, but then the screen would go blank and the "half moon" icon would light up.  However, instead of going completely to sleep, it would seem to start to restore again, because the caps lock and num lock indicator light would blink and the DVD drive would "click," just as they do when the system first startup. In other situations, when I first try to boot up, the ThinkPAD splash screen is very dim.  This occurs  before I see the Win 7 menu to select Win7 or an older OS to boot into.  After I select Win 7, the screen flashes between normal brightness and total black during the boot process. Usually the system never quite completes to where I can log into Windows. Or, I may be working away after 5 minutes, or an hour, and then system suddenly goes to sleep At times, I've noticed that the vent near the top left of the system is very hot.  But then I had this bootup problem even when the system was off all day and presumably cold. Or, I may be working all day with no problems. Can anyone advise on what could be the problems... Read more

Answer:System goes to Sleep/hibernation mode suddenly; sometimes THINKPAD splash screen dim

hey philburton, hard to say what's going on, i would suggest using this Hardware Maintenance Manual >> clean the unit, especially near the air vent area. it could be clogged. thus making the unit heat up. and sometimes heat can cause a lot of issues.

I have a pentium 4 2.6 Gig 512 K 400 MHZ cpu with a LG 1512 Flatron monitor.Last night my wife's kids were MSN'ing, which doesn't happen often on my cpu. After they were done no one used the machine. The machine was left on overnight and this happens often. This morning I tried to use and discovered the machine looked like it was in sleep mode. The power was on but the monitor stated 'sleep mode'.Usually you can just press the power button and it comes to life but it didn't happen. Fiddled with the front four buttons of the monitor and now it says 'Burn in' when you turn it on and then proceeds to display different colors screens and nothing else. I can't get it to change back to displaying 'sleep mode'.Anyway, the cpu still powers up to look like it's in sleep mode. There's no reboot, no beeps, no nothing but a cpu that looks like it's on.Tried resetting, taking apart and cleaning any dust in the machine and uplugging everything and turning it off but to no avail. Anybody have any ideas?

The power is on, its hooked up and everything,& the mouse is hooked up. I tried restarting, turning off all power to everything, and trying a different monitor but it did the same thing. After fooling around with the monitor reset buttons it shows an error message saying "Out of range" right before it goes into standby. Please tell me how to fix this. Thanks!"More information: IT DOES NOT SHOW ANYTHING AT ALL, except when I hold down the power button it shows the 3 color bars; red, green,& blue. That's it. Please someone tell me how to fix this. And yes, I am using a different computer to write this.I WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL IF YOU CAN HELP ME!!!!Derrick

I have windows vista. My computer is a Desktop Dell Inspiron 530 it is stuck in sleep mode. I can't find anyone with any answer that has fixed this issue. The unplugging waiting holding power button all that stuff hasn't worked. I have taken the Ram cards out and tried turning it on, i have taken the battery out on the mother board and tried turning it on. It still stays in sleep mode when it turns on, which means black screen that only says the computer is in sleep mode. I am at a loss. I thought about installing something on a disk to try to fix it but will it even do anything since i can't get to any kind of menu with it in sleep mode. ANYONE with a way to fix this please PLEASE help!

Hi, I have an IBM tower & keyboard & an LG monitor. A friend just brought it to me to use. It worked fine at her house. When I got everything plugged in & turned it on i get " Power Saving Mode" across screen & thats it. We are wondering if the crescent key was accidentally pushed during set up ? We did try to look it up & found one answer that said to start it up & hold crescent key down for a few seconds & that it would wake up. Needless to say it didnt. We are not teenagers & def not techy but can usually follow directions if you can help. Running windows xp on it.

Hey guys. So this might be the wrong place for this thread but I didnt see a computer specific section so i picked this just incase it is related to my windows. Anyway the problem i am having is that every so often, more often then not actually, when my computer hibernates from inactivity, it cannot be woken up. I click the mouse, press everything on the keyboard and nothing will happen. I even try pressing the power button yet that does nothing. The power button just keeps blinking as normal when in sleep mode. I also tried Holding down the power button, in hope to force shutdown the computer but that did not work either. The only way anything happens is if i unplug the computer and then plug it back in. Unfortunately i know thats really bad for the computer but i dont really have a choice. Any ideas?

I have an:
Acer Aspire X1430G
AMD E-450 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.65 GHz
8.00 GBs RAM (custom, didnt come with computer)
64-bit operating system with windows 7
In addition, i have restored my computer to factory defaults, aswell as installed all the latest drivers, none of which helped the issue.

Thanks in advance =D

My pc appears to be stuck in sleep mode. Earlier today I put my pc in sleep mode before going to the gym. When I came back and clicked the mouse the fans and lights came on but nothing appeared on the monitor. I turned the power off and turn it back on and the lights and fans come on again but nothing appears on the monitor. No boot menu, nothing. Also after turing it on, the fans and lights randomly goes off and on, usually with an interval of 30 seconds. During this nothing appears on the monitor.

I have had the same exact problem happen once before - about 4 months ago. When me and my friend tried fixing it we tried some of the following with no result:

- Using a different monitor.
- Using a different graphics card.
- Using different RAM.
- Removing dust.

He eventually took it home with him and managed to fix it. I don't know what he did and I have no means of conntacting him at this point in time.

I am sorry if this is poorly worded, seeing as english is not my first language.

I hope some of might be able to help me with this (Keep in mind that I can't get into the BIOS because nothing will show up on the minitor at all).

I would REALLY appreciate if someone could help me on this computer problem I am having with my DELL pc. Operating system is Windows XP.

When I turn on the computer, it seems to be booting correctly and then all of a sudden the screen goes black and says the computer is in sleep mode. I cannot do anything except hold down the power button on the tower to turn it off and on, I can't get into safe mode, click on anything, etc.

I took it to the Best Buy Geek Squad and they totally ripped me off. They said the problem may be the video card, so I bought a new one, had it installed and again the same problem is happening.

I read someone elses same situation on this forum but I did not understand any of the computer language that were given in the answers. I do not know what a jumper is? If someone could please reply and try to use the simplest language possible!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:Stuck In Sleep Mode - Help!!

What model of the Dell PC do you have?

Probably you will have to check Power Managment in the BIOS.. Or you could just symply reset the BIOS to default settings.

You should be able to access the BIOS as follow:

While the system is booting press F2 key. This should bring you to BIOS settings.. Should be an option called reset BIOS to defaul or something similar.. Choose that option, then press F10 to exit and save settings...

I have been haunted by the consistent failure of my computer’s sleep mode. I have an HP dv2000 laptop and every time I put my computer into sleep mode it will never resume from that state. The fans roar, but the screen remains blank. I have to hold the power button down and do a hard restart.. And my reboot takes about 5 minutes now!! I have Vista on my computer; However, I do not have the Service Pack installed. I know that the Service Pack has also been known to cause a number of sleep mode problems as well.
As far as I know all of my drivers are up to date. I also downloaded a BIOS update from the HP website.. I went to the event viewer and noted some performance problems.. This is what I found out:
This program is causing Windows to standby or hibernate slowly:

Name: HP Digital Monitoring
File name: hpqtra08.exe
These Drivers are causing windows to resume slowly:

Name: NVIDIA Compatible Windows 2000 Mini Port Driver. Version 98.15
File Name: nlddmkm.sys
Publisher: NVIDIA Corporation
Device: NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150

This problem is driving me nuts… Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I just bought a new power supply and video card for my computer and everything was working perfectly. Until I stepped away from the computer long enough for it to go into sleep mode. I came back to it and wiggled the mouse as I usually do. It sounded like it started to come out of it because I heard the fans start spinning again. But nothing ever happened it just stayed there trying to come out of sleep mode.

I decided I would just shut it down and start over. But when I pressed the power button to turn it back on it glowed orange (instead of blue) to indicate that it was in sleep mode. I tried turning the hard switch of the power supply on and off but the same thing happened.

Luckily my much more knowledgeable brother was around and he removed and put back in the battery on the motherboard which reset everything and got me out of this kind of computational limbo.

My question is, what caused this? And will it happen again? Or was this some strange fluke?

When either the wireless adapter is powered on or the Ethernet wired connection is connected and you try to enter sleep mode, the screen goes blank but it does not enter sleep.  If you wait, it will power off and the OS says it was not shutdown properly.  If you turn the power ot the wireless off and don't plug a cable in, it works fine. If you have either active and then power off, it will hang / power off. Power driver was updated along with power manager. both were removed, rebooted and re-installed. Any ideas?

I am working on a ThinkPad E520 and it will not turn on.  The red dot in ThinkPad just blinks slow, indicating to me that it is in sleep mode. I've tried all I could find and it did not work: - disconnect the power and battery, hold the power button down for (30 seconds, 60 seconds, 90 seconds).  Reconnect: nothing.- disconnect all again, press the power button 10 times, then hold down for 30 seconds on the 11th time.  - disconnect, remove the RAM, power it up (try).  Reinstall the RAM, start up normal.  Nothing. After anything I've tried, that red dot just keeps blinking at me (I know it's laughing!). Any other suggestions?  New laptop time? Ed

Hello there!
I'm trying to fix my friend's Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15iby.
He accidentally tripped over the USB cord that was connecting the laptop and his phone, and at that moment the laptop just went kaput (the phone is ok btw).
The power LED on the laptop just keeps blinking, the manual says that the blinking LED indicates that the laptop is in sleep mode.
When I connect the AC adapter the battery LED turns on, which is what it normally does.
Holding the power button for more than 5 sec turns it off.
Holding the power button for more than 5 sec, with the AC adapter plugged, in briefly turns it off, and then it goes back to being all blinky and stuff.
I opened up the laptop and have tried the following:
-disconnecting the battery and holding the power button for 30 sec
-clearing CMOS
-reseating the RAM stick
-pressing the NOVO button
Also the CPU gets hot when it stays in the sleep mode for a while.
I'm really scratching my head over here; it's a curious problem it seems
Thanks for your time

Ok, whenever I turn on my computer it all sounds ok, but my monitor just shows up with "DSUB Power Saving Mode" for about five seconds then goes back to black. I've tried a different monitor, and I've tried plugging it into different sockets, but nothing works. I had the same problem a while ago, but it kind of sorted itself out, and I don't know how.

It might be down to the computer itself being knocked a bit, but I doubt it, since its been through much worse.

Has anyone else had this problem? Help would be much appreciated...

1 gig of Kingston RAM
ATI all in Wonder X600 Pro
Windows XP pro

Ok now let me tell you the situation.

I just bought this stuff last week Feb 18 2005, and I got everything running it has been working for a week then I turn it off last night(everything was working smoothly). I come in the next morning to turn it on and the Monitor stays in sleep mode(I thought that since it was an old monitor that it was the problem but when I grabbed the new monitor and plugged it into the video card it did the same thing) So My motherboard has a CMos reset button that is the next thing I tried but I still get the same problem. Stuck in Sleep Mode.
I would try another Video card but I dont have an extra x16 pci express slot video card laying around. But I may have an old pci slot one(I just have to dig deep for it).

Does anyone have any other good ideas to help me?

Thanks Humungus

My computer is only 2 months old (and so is all the rest of the hardware), it is specially made for recording audio, and that is all I use it for. The other night I accidently hit "sleep" rather than "shut down". So I tried to get it out of sleep mode and couldn't. I eventually decided to hold the power button so it went off and then I unplugged everything for the night.

I plugged everything in and turned it on today, and the modem shows signs of life: it's flashing, the fan is going etc. but my monitor and other hardware all have an orange light, and don't go if the computer is still in sleep mode. Nothing comes up on the monitor at all when I turn the computer on.

Hi everyone!

I've been having a problem with Windows 7 recently on my new computer that I just got a couple weeks ago. The problem is that my computer will have a blue screen error when waking from sleep mode. I don't see the blue screen at all, instead, when waking from sleep mode, I see the BIOS screen and then it goes through the typical startup process as if the computer had been powered OFF instead of put into sleep mode (however, I know it was properly in sleep mode, as the power light on my tower flashes continually rather than shutting off during this mode). I get the message that Windows did not shut down properly and have the option to boot into safe mode, etc. When I boot back into normal mode I receive a message in Windows saying windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down. I follow the prompt to check for a solution, but get no solution.

Answer:Windows 7 Blue Screen on Sleep Mode Wake Up

Hey, sometimes I get a blue screen when I come back from sleep mode (has happened only twice). I ran my virus programs and everything is clean. I then performed error checking and checked for file system errors and bad sectors - everything is good. This narrowed it down by telling my it has to be a driver problem. I checked for Windows update and all the important updates are done and correct. The only recent new hardware I got was my monitor so I upgraded that driver and I'm sure that that fixed my first blue screen. I guess my question is is that is there a way to update all my drivers at once? or do I have to go through device manager and update each one individual? also in my windows update I have the option of installing NVIDIA - system - nFORCE memory controller. the date of this driver is 10/19/2008. should i update this? If worse comes to worse I can just shutoff sleep mode altogether (I rarely use it and most of the time when I leave I turn my PC off anyway). How would I go about doing that? If wanted I can supply the Blue Screen info I guess. Anything will help!

Hi there.

I've recently built a new computer, and have been having some problems shutting it down. The computer shuts down fine if I don't put it into sleep mode, but as soon as I put it to sleep, the next time I wake it up and shut it down, it hangs on the shutting down screen.

I'm using a gigabyte z77 ud3h motherboard, and have had some problems with the usb ports so far, with certain ports being fussy about what I plug into them even though I've installed and updated all the drivers. Although I've got the usb devices I need working now, the shutdown issue still persists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Hello and sorry for the intrusion or any inconvenience.

I am running a "Windows XP home edition version 2002" Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4CPU 2.80GHz, 2.00GB of RAM

The problem persists after a while on the computer. My computer restarts, and/or freezes and sometimes when I try to restart my computer screen acts as if it is in sleep mode and never turns on, only after a while that I have my computer off does it start normally. Only recently have I had this problem where my anti-virus doesn't want to start up. Also when I tried to run a "GMER Rootkit Scan" my computer automatically restarted itself, so I can't do one.

I have a windows XP installation disk, would you recommend me to send my computer to a fix shop?

I buy Lenovo thinkpad edge E531 few months back and initially, I noticed that laptop becomes unresponsive if I leave it in idle state and mouce pointer can move on screen but laptop becomes unresponsive. Then I started locking screen in order to avoid this situation. However since last week, laptop becomes unreponsive even in lock screen. I can not do any thing except hovering mouce pointer. I am annoyed. I am suspicious that may be some driver is cretaing this trouble. Does anyone has any clue. Thanks

Answer:Think pad edge E531 becomes unresponsive in idle mode or lock screen mode.

Hi Ahmadbilal,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
We understood that your query is about system not starting up after idle mode on ThinkPad Edge E531.
Make sure the Windows and Lenovo drivers are up to date too.
Please download ThinkVantage System update application from Lenovo driver link and update all the drivers.
Try clean boot to find out which program is causing your pc running slowly or unresponsive
Instruction here:
Basically you have to disable all startup items and NONE-Windows services through msconfig then restart your pc then put it back to sleep or idle mode and see if the problem is solved?
Hope this helps.
Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hi, Every now and then when i wake my Lenovo T430 laptop from sleep with no program running, i notice the System process in the task manager goes to 10-12% CPU usage and won't stop that until i do a restart of Windows. I read online that this behavior can be caused to a faulty driver. Anyone is experiencing the same problem? i am trying to find how to fix this.

Answer:Windows 8.1 System Process hogging CPU at 10-12% when starting computer from sleep mode.

I have the same problem here with a T520. I have a fresh Windows 8.1 installation + Lenovo Power Management Driver I "cold" boot my system everything is fine. But when I wake the system from sleep I have a process in the taskmanager which is using 10-12 % of my cpu (Or around 100% of one of my cores...) The process is jsut called "System" and the corresponding file is "ntoskrnl.exe"  I would realy appreciate a fix for the problem, or at least a workaround. With this problem, my laptop has a battery life of around 40 minutes, which isn't that usefull.

When I start my computer everything seems to be working fine but after login it says Please Wait then freezes at Welcome screen and the cursor can be moved around the screen and shows the loading icon and the screen also flashes black every few seconds. I've restarted and attempted to access Safe Mode however it also freezes at Welcome screen. I went into the repair system screen and tried a system restore but it says there are no restore points available and I know I haven't deleted my restore points. I've tried disconnecting any of the hardware I've had installed but that hasn't helped either. There also isn't any faulty hardware. When it was last working it said there was a Windows update so I installed the update but when I tried to turn on the computer the next time thats when the problem started and I don't remember what the update was for. I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit about 2 months ago and up until now I've had no problems with it. What can I do?

Here are the system specs:
Dell Inspiron 530s
Intel Celeron 2.00 Ghz
3.00 GB DDR2 RAM (I added 2.00 gigs myself came with 1.00 gig from factory)
Windows 7 32-bit upgrade from Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit
250 Gb Hard Drive

Hi All!
I have a windows 7 laptop (can't find my original Windows 7 CD's that came with the comp).
I turn the computer on, enter my password, and everything loads up.
But, I can't open anything once I'm there... Not the desktop icons, not the toolbar icons, not even the start menu! Ctl-Alt-Del doesn't work either!
I had some malware that I removed using malware bytes.  After I removed it, these problems started!  Before then the only problems were some lagging and random video ads playing on pages I was visiting.
I also found "MyPCBackUp" program, which I was told was a virus.  I deleted that too.
The only way I can get ANYTHING done is to open in "Safe Mode with Networking."  I can use most of my programs including anti-virus and chrome.
I've been told that a virus may have corrupted the operating system.
I'm not sure what to do!

Answer:Windows 7 - Stuck after log in screen. Only safe mode works!

Can anyone on here help?!?!!?

Greetings All. Tipping a nod to Eister who is also having this issue with an Aspire 5534.See this thread I am building Acer Aspire S7 with a Windows 10 image and they have all been exhibiting this behaviour. If left unattended they go in to sleep mode and there is no way to gain access again except by performing a hard reset. Not good if you didn't save your work. It seems there is a change in the way Windows 10 behaves in sleep mode as we have seen a similar issue in Travelmate P645 models where, once in sleep mode, the Keyboard will not bring the device out of sleep.Only clicking the mouse (or touchpad) and moving the mouse (or your finger on the touchpad) will allow you to access the login screen. Performing some Google-Fu has shown a lot of Windows 10 users having this experience regardless of the hardware on which it is running. However, for the Acer Aspire S7 (and The Aspire 5534) it would seem there is a different issue. We have various BIOS versions on the S7 devices so am unable to determine if that might be a cause. I'd like to try and download the latest BIOS (once the Driver downloads service is back up), to see if that resolves things. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution please? Regards David

I got my laptop not three months ago. One day it was working perfectly, then the next morning it won't come out of sleep mode. The power button is flashing, but no matter what I do, hold it down, press it and wait, it just won't turn on! I don't have the time to take it somewhere to be looked at, but from what I'm seeing online I'm not the only one with this problem. Has anyone solved it? I need this computer!

I have recently bought the "Lenovo Ideapad flex 2-14".It got into a really weired state:1. The power button is blinking (sleep mode as I have seen in the manufacturer paper), nothing on the screen- screen is black.2. It doesn't respond to anything, short power button, long power button, key presses, nothing.3. Tried to connect and disconnect the power adapter, also tried the Novo recovery button, still nothing.I would have removed the battery but i don't want to open it.Any suggestions?

Answer:ideapad flex 2 stuck in sleep mode

So, even if you long press the power button, the power light keeps blinking?
Try pressing the power button for upto 30-40 seconds. The system should turn off.
what is your battery indicator color? (or the charging light)

I have an H 30-05 desktop running Windows 10. I leave it running 24/7 and use it several times a day. When not used for any length of time it moves into sleep mode, from which it is awakened by clicking on the mouse. I've just been away for 10 days, and left the machine running. But upon my return it now seems stuck in hibernate (?) or hybrid (?) mode, and there is no signal reaching the monitor. The power light constantly flashes on an off, and if I hold it down (to switch the machine off) it always simply re-starts in the same mode. Most grateful for any thoughts or suggestions on how to get it back working properly. many thanks Nick

Answer:H30 stuck in sleep / hibernate / hybrid mode. HELP!!!!!

hi Nick,
Can you try these steps:
1. If clicking them mouse doesn't wake up the machine, try to use the keyboard or another USB keyboard and press the space bar or any key to wake up the machine.
2. Hold the power button longer (approx 30secs to 1min) to do a hard shutdown. If successful, reboot the machine and observe.
3. While the HDD/SSD light indicator is flashing, unplug the power cord from the outlet to do a force shutdown. When the light goes out, open up the H30-05 and remove the RAM module then power up the machine
If you have 2 RAM sticks, remove only one
if you have 1 RAM stick, remove it, reconnect the power cord then power up the machine (this should give you No POST). Wait for a min. then re-insert the RAM stick back and power up them machine and observe.

My ~3year old toshiba laptop is not working anymore. When I boot up I don't see anything on the screen. The white light shines that shows that the laptop is on, i hear a fan blowing (but it keeps blowing in the same rhytmn, like you hear when you startup the laptop but normally this stops once you actually are booted up). I can open the CD-drive (don't know if this could be of any help but I thought i'd share it ! ).

I've tried a lot of things already, things i found people suggesting online.
- Put an other screen on it (the screen stays black, but says that there is a connection, well rather, the external screen doesn't show an error message 'no connection" or something like that.
- Tried getting the battery out, putting AC in, holding power button 2min while no battery/AC.

This problem started about a week ago, but then randomly my laptop would start up (after opening and closing it for like 50 times (<- probably not the smartest thing to do but it did the trick back then).
Now nothing seems to work!

Thanks in advance

Upon start up computer goes into sleep mode, light turns yellow, screen is black, screen flashes up "Going to Sleep". Pressed every button, no change. I chnage monitors and this still happens. Please advise of options to rectify.

Answer:Acer desktop stuck in sleep mode?

Is this a laptop. If so a this happens every time you turn off and turn on the computer then chances are your power pack has failed. Does the charging light come on when you plug the power pack into your computer? If it is a desktop then it sounds like a bad driver or screen setting. If this is the case then do an F8 boot and boot to safemode. If it happens in safemode let us know.

I've had this computer for roughly 3 years now and really haven't had any problems with it other then the occasional accidental hit of the sleep mode button. Now usually when I hit the sleep button, the computer will be very difficult to get out of sleep and I will normally end up turning it off completely and then turnin it back on. This has worked fine for me up until the last time I restarted the computer. Now when I go to turn the computer on the light on the computer starts orange (normally blue when started) which normally shows me the computer is sleeping. The monitor also does the same thing. I can hear the fans running but have no other options besides completely turning the computer off via the power button.

Hi, I recently purchased a (lower end) gamer iBUYPOWER desktop computer (April 2012). It was suggested to me that I put it in sleep mode at night, as opposed to turning it off every night. I put it in sleep mode last night via the keyboard half moon button (as I've done every night since 4/26/12). This morning when I clicked my mouse to wake it up, the tower, blue lights in the tower and fans turned on. My screen, however, was black with a white/blue box that said "No Signal/Check Signal Cable". I waited a few more minutes, it remained the same. We turned it off at the power button on the front of the tower. Waited a few minutes, turned it back on. Still the same, fans tower & light inside tower worked, black screen with error box.

Thinking it was the monitor, my son plugged his monitor into the tower. Black screen with error box.

I looked up my warranty info (2 yrs service warranty), called the place of purchase (Walmart) who directed me to the manufacturer (1 yr warranty). iBUYPOWER's tech support said it could be a number of things and that safe mode is a microsoft issue. He wanted to sell me a new graphics card and I'd be reimbursed once I returned the old one. I had an unused GeForce graphics card here and asked why I couldn't just try this one and call him back if it didn't work. It would save time and temporary money.

My son swapped the cards. The monitor still appeared black with the error box. He tried using his monitor to ... Read more

a lot of my friends have this problem. It doesn't matter what type of card they have. My problem is more difficult. When the screen turns off it happens quite often that it doesn't turn back but otherwise the pc (windows) is in working ("blindly" i deleted my icons from the desktop) If i press the power button than for instance the screen comes back and than the computer turn off. I operated with the power setting and i found a newer driver for my intel 4000 vga and new dell '06 bios, but the problem come back always. (+I tried on windows 7; always is ok!)

Turn off the display: 3 min
Put the computer to sleep: never (on battery 1 hour)

Answer:Black screen after sleep mode and screen off (in power safer mode)

I dont think it's your touchpad specifically.  It will go out whenever the i/o is interacted with.  It will probably go out even if you plug your cell phone.  Since removing Mcaffee I havent had any problems.

Please advise how to fix Sleep Mode and Screen Saver problems. I tried so many things (updates BIOS/drivers) myself, but they were not very helpful.
Recently I installed the motherboard. OS is Windows 7 64bit Professional.

My current configuration:
- CPU Intel i3-7100 3.9GHz
- 8GB DDR4 2133 Hyper/Kingston
- 240 GB SunDisk SSD with Windows 7 and 2 additional HDD archive drives
- 2 DVD optical drives
- Wireless mobile mouse
- Wired keyboard

Everything works well except above stated problems.

Thank you,

I would see if replacing the CMOS battery helps. Some CMOS batteries are soldered to the motherboard. What is the model number of the Asus?
You can try the following though. Remove the main battery, unplug the adapter and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Attach the power adapter but do not replace the main battery and then press the power button.

My Notebook Stream 11-r015wm with a Windows 10 operating system (which I have had for less than two months) went into sleep mode while I was away from it. When I returned I was unable to either wake the computer back up or shut it down. The screen is black and the power button is lit up as though it is still in sleep mode but as I've said I cannot get the computer to respond to anything I try. I have ALREADY attempted a hard reset but even after nearly 2 minutes of holding the power button down, it will not shut down. I do recall that it was wanting to update something shortly before this happened. Is there anything I can do to get it to shut down, restart, or wake up, short of sending it in? I need the computer for my studies and only have the weekend to fix this before my classes resume.

When I close my laptop screen and reopen it, the desktop automatically opens up on my windows 10 and skips the password and sign in part.

Answer:Why don't my screen lock after sleep?

I was having the same problem on my laptop. My other computers also upgraded to Win10 are locking just fine.
To fix the problem, I did this: Go into Power OptionsClick "Choose what closing the lid does"Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"Select "Don't require a password"Save ChangesGo back into "Choose what closing the lid does" and change the setting back to "Require a password"
Apparently the setting got stuck during the upgrade and resetting it gets it unstuck.

So I've had this monitor for about a year now, and i got it for free. It worked perfectly fine until as of late in which it has been stuck in sleep or standby mode. I confirmed that it wasnt my computer as it wont even turn on, even when unplugged from my computer. It says it was manufactured in march 2007, which makes it kinda old, but i would still like it to work, without anything too hard to do as im quite inexperience in saudering and other such things.

I left my laptop alone for a few minutes and when I came back, my display was off and the power led was blinking. I tried [ressing the power button, but the screen did not turn on and power led continued to blink. At the time the charging led was white, meaning the battery was fully charged. I waited a few days to see if draining the battery would allow me to turn the commputer on but that hasn't worked. Now, when I plug the adapter in and try to turn on the laptop, the charging led (now orange, not white) and the power led blink on and off simultaneously. I tried plugging the display to an external monitor too and since the computer has been stuck in this mode, nothing has shown up. I have viewed the HP page for hard reset but it did not work for me: I have also viewed the HP led flashing page and tried the steps. They did not work: Can anyone help me fix this asap? This laptop was going strong and I've taken really good care of it. I don't see why this computer should die on me after using it for 4 months.

Bought a fully-loaded XPS 15 9560 about 3-4 weeks ago and am having issues w/ CPU clock speed, specifically after returning from sleep mode. It will get stuck at a particular ceiling and won't throttle higher, and performance is terrible. A reboot makes the problem go away. Frustrating, as I don't reboot often and like to keep applications running/open while working on several projects, simultaneously.
I'm having a hard time re-creating the issue consistently. It seems to happen most often when I let the PC sleep overnight and return to use it the next morning. I just tried triggering it by going into/back from sleep mode, both plugged and unplugged, and could not make it happen. I did have the problem this morning after leaving it in sleep overnight.
All drivers are up to date, as well as BIOS. I ran the full Dell Diagnostics and everything passed. No malware or viruses, and all unnecessary background services are disabled. It absolutely screams when running properly, after a issues otherwise. I'd just prefer not to have to shut it down after every session.
Here's a good description, though I'm not able to re-create the issue the way this person was:
I contacted support but received a very Level 1 Support response (malware, too many background services, etc.) - nothing helpful yet. Will continue w/ them as well.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I received a brand new Flex 3-1480 for Christmas and have had several technical issues with it. First, the touch screen only works about half of the time when I turn it on. When I restart the machine, it sometimes fixes the issue, but that's not my main concern. The biggest issue is that it will not wake up from sleep mode. This problem began back in February (6 months ago) and has not been resolved. I called Lenovo support on 6 or 7 different occasions, each answered by a different technician who assigned me new case numbers. They all tried various things (BIOS, hardware, screen brightness, drivers, etc.). These solutions all worked for a few days, maybe a week on occasion before the computer when back to not working properly.  The computer was sent to the repair depot back in April to be fixed. When I got it back, it worked properly for 2 days before reverting to the previous sleep issue. At that point, I called support again, tried more fixes (none of which worked). I got fed up and tired of those solutions at the end of May, when I called and told them I wanted this escalated. I was assigned Crystal as a case manager. She has been absolutely abysmal and non-responsive, but looking at this forum and online I see that she is always like this - I am surprised she still is employed and just goes to show how terrible of a company this really is. This is my first and last Lenovo machine and will recommend people NOT purchase Lenovo when they are looking for produ... Read more
