Windows Essentials 2012 won't install on fresh Windows 7 install.

Question: Windows Essentials 2012 won't install on fresh Windows 7 install.

I swapped out the HDD on my wife's laptop with a new SSD, and did a fresh install of Windows 7.

My wife liked the live mail, and the photo viewer, and had the 2009 version on the old system, I think.

Anyway......you can only install the new Windows Essentials 2012, or it's individual components....or so I thought.

I tried doing that, and first it hung on the "install", until I got fed up and cancelled. A couple more attempts, and it said it couldn't install mail, movie maker and photo viewer. I tried the offline installer, tried finding an older version....with no luck.

It would keep installing OneDrive though, if I tried to install the entire suite.

One thing I found out is, that if there are any components/program files from previous versions, it won't install, or so I read. If I go to C:\Program files, and/or C:\Program files(x86), there are folders for Live essentials components. Obviously it came with the fresh Windows 7. I'm pretty sure that is the reason, but if I simply try to right click and delete those folders, it tells me I need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to the folders.

It's ridiculous.

Any help/feedback GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Windows Essentials 2012 won't install on fresh Windows 7 install.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here's the latest in a long series of unsolvable problems where Windows Essentials 2012 can not be installed.

The repeated error message - error 0x80040609 - source WLX suite

Installation stops when installing Messenger. There are no previous Messenger installations on the computer.

The computer is running 64 bit Windows 7 . Windows was freshly installed on the computer a few months ago with no problem.

To save the time of asking me to take steps that will not work:

Windows firewall is turned on.

I've downloaded and tried running the offline standalone installer.

I'm running current DirectX.

All Windows Live directories and files have been removed. Uninstall advice does not work because the programs were never installed in the first place

I've downloaded the installation fail fixit and run it.

I've run Windows update.

I've found and zipped the installation log file but so far there's no place to send it.

There are no viruses or malware

Windows Media Player already is installed.

I've run msiexec /unreg
msiexec /regserver

The Windows Installer service is running.

Answer:Cannot install Windows Live Essentials 2012

While waiting for anyone to respond to the original message, here are two other alleged solutions that did not work.

Ran MSCONFIG and set it for only start up services. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Ran CCleaner twice. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

I started Revo Uninstaller. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.
I checked Control Panel. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.

I've used Regedit to remove all reference to Windows Live. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Still no solutions and no responses.

I reset my computer because Windows Live Mail was not connecting to the internet and was getting an error message saying that I have used the wrong password. Now, I still can't use WL Mail and Windows Essentials is still "installing" for the last several days. Consequently, I can't uninstall WL Mail or Windows Essentials or fix them. In addition, I think, because WLE is not installed officially, I can't see my saved videos and still get the same error message when I try to connect to WL Mail...error 0x80280006. I tried to reset my WL Mail password to no avail.
BTW, I'm using Windows 10 and maybe it is partly to blame?
I want to be able to use WL Mail and see my videos, but I don't know how. Please help. Thanks.

We have an important LOB application (QuickBooks 2018) that requires that requires Internet Explorer 11 for QB to operate correctly.  Unfortunately our server runs Windows Server 2012 Essentials as an operating system (not R2).  From reviewing
various Microsoft documents, I realize that IE 11 is not supported on Server 2012.  However, we need to be able to run QuickBooks, which requires that version of IE.  Upgrading the server OS to 2012 R2 would take hours, because there is no in-place
upgrade option.  We would have to reinstall and configure the OS again from scratch.
Is there anything we can do to resolve this problem?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

I've looked pretty everywhere but I couldn't find a solution.

I also tried to install the messenger or the Photo gallery and Movie maker alone, without mail.

HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.

Answer:monitor drivers unable to install on fresh windows 2000 install

Are you really referring to the monitor drivers or the Dispay Adapter drivers? The symptoms you describe sound like the latter issue.

Monitor drivers are no big deal to install, and even if you don't, Windows should use compatible plug and play drivers. Still it's a good idea to install them -- but you get them from the Monitor vendor site. You get the Display Adapter drivers from the Display Adaptor vendor's site.

What Display Adapter model do you have? And are they properly installed?

To install a Monitor driver, you download and unzip the .inf file from the Vendor. Then you select "update driver" and browse to the location of the file you unzipped. Once installed your Monitor should be recognized by model number.

I've been extremely frustrated with both the screen flickering and crashing during sleep issues.  I figured before I buy a laptop from another company that I would at least try a reformat. I was expecting devices to not be fully installed after the reformat but Device Manager does not show any issues.  PC is also running fine besides the fact that the trackpad doesn't right click properly and the resolution is off which probably can be addressed by installing the proper drivers.  What else should I install, though?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - fresh install of Windows 10 - what should we install from Lenovo's download page?

Download/install Lenovo System Interface Foundation for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit)...IdeaPad.... That should install, among other things, Lenovo Vantage (ex-Companion.) Use its System Update function to find drivers/updates, download and install them on your system. You don't have to install everything but if you have "screen flickering and crashing during sleep issues" then I'd make sure to at least get the latest chipset, display, video, power management, etc. drivers.

P.S. If you suspect that particular driver(s) may be causing issues, then install them one at a time to identify which one(s) are bad.

Hello there!
Okay I have a problem that I can't seem to solve.
I bought a new computer that did not come with a operating system.
So I set up windows 7 64bit. All that went smoothly.
Then when it came to driver installation the problems came.
The computer has no CD drive, so I cant install it from the cds I got with it.
Tried with wired internet connection, nothing. Missing driver
Tried putting the driver for the Ethernet thingy on an usb. Computer did not find the USB drive. Tried all ports on the machine.
Sooo, I basically need to get internet into the computer so I can setup the rest of the drivers.
Tried a wireless WiFi USB stick, but again, the computer does not find the USB's.
BUT it did find my wireless keyboard and mouse assembly? Weird.
Cannot seem to get the computer to recognize a usb memory stick.
Any ideas guys and girls?
Thanks in advance!

After another format, I tried to install windows 7 and upgrade from there. I had some success, but the windows 10 would log in with a black screen and working mouse and keyboard shortcuts. After 5-10 minutes the Rest of the interface loaded, the start menu however did not work, nor did windows update or the search bar.

-Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Service Pack 1

Hello there, I've just built a new computer and am having trouble installing Windows updates on my fresh install.

When I go to Windows Update, I get the following message:

--
Install new Windows Update software

To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update. Your automatic updating settings will not change

To install the update, Windows update will automatically close and re-open.
--

When I click 'Install now', the window disappears and I am then confronted with the following message:

--
Windows could not search for new updates

An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.

Error(s) found:
Code 800F081F Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
--

Does anyone know how I can get updates to work? Is there some way that I can manually download and install this update for Windows Update?

Thank you.

Answer:Unable to install updates on fresh Windows 7 SP1 install

I'm guessing that your installation media already contained SP1, is that correct? Since this is a clean install my first thought is something happened during the installation process to damage or corrupt some system files. I'd try the Microsoft troubleshooter first.

Troubleshoot problems with installing updates - WindowsUpdate_dt000

If that doesn't work I'd try running the System Update Readiness Tool.

What is the System Update Readiness Tool?

If still no joy, and only because this is a very recent clean install, I'd just reinstall Windows 7 again. If the problem persists I'd start looking into the possibility of a bad installation disk, hardware issues, etc. Please post back if any of this helps or not.

Just wondering what everyone rushes to install on a fresh install of Windows. If this type of thread has been done already, sorry feel free to merge.

I tend to format and reinstall so often that I keep all my apps on a USB stick install them all then use File Hippo's update checker to update anything that's been updated since I put the installers on my stick, I also copy the new installers over to my stick for the next time I reinstall.

My first install is Anti-virus, which used to be Avast but i'm now using MS security essentials. I let it update and scan then reboot install any available Windows updates.

Second install is Firefox which is my favorite browser and I use to surf around while windows update is running.

After closing Firefox my third set of installs are plugins: Java, Flash Plugins (IE & non-IE), Shockwave, Adobe Air, and Python.

The rest are:

7-zip: Great utility for handling all kinds of archives (doesn't integrate into the shell well on Windows 7 yet)

Abiword: Light weight word processor. For the most I use this to compose longer blog posts and replies to private messages. It beats launching Open Office.

Audacity: Program for manipulating audio files. Mostly use this to cleanup intro and outro gaps on rips.

Any Video Converter: Pretty simple and easy to use video converter so I can play them on my Zen.

Ccleaner: An awesome temp/internet files cleaner.

Google Chrome: I use this as my secondary browser.

This isn't so much a "things aren't working" post, as it is a survey of people's recommendations on this topic. I got a P50 for work, removed the HDD it came with, installed a different one, and installed my company's corporate Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit image on it. Things are generally working fine.  Obviously I'm aware of the P50 drivers download page, and so far, in the process I have installed: BIOS 1.19Intel Wireless LAN DriverIntel PRO/1000 LAN DriverIntel Rapid Storage Technology Driver No other devices are currently appearing "unrecognized" in Device Manager.  So I guess my question is, does anyone have any suggestions or feedback regarding what other drivers I should (or shouldn't) install?  Any useful functionaliy I'm missing out on (fingerprint reader, perhaps) without another driver?  Any drivers that will likely make things work a lot better?  Any that are pretty unnecessary or bloatware?

Answer:Which drivers should I install on a P50 with a fresh Windows 10 64-bit install?

If your system is running fine, and all the devices listed in Device Manager are clear (no Unknown devices), then you do not need to install any other drivers for they will be installed as needed when new devices are detected.,   If your Fingerprint reader is not working, and you want to enable its functionality, you can find the driver for it, and other devices at the link below.    Some of the itesms listed on the Lenovo site below help keep your sustem up to date ,or check for hardware issues, so look at the read-me files for and decide if you want that functionality or not I let personally them run and find that they do not have any noticable impact on performance...   http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-p50...

Hi.
You've tried installing it using "Turn Windows features on or off" in Control Panel>Programs and Features?

You could download it from MS and try installing that way.
Download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1 (Full Package) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Or, you could try using Powershell OneGet. The Chocolatey repository command is

C:\> choco install dotnet3.5

Other than these options, I'm not sure how else you could do it.

Hope that helps.

My music computer started having problems with Windows 98 locking up at irregular intervals, and after a while the thing simply wouldn't boot up all the time. The lockups had been getting worse, so naturally I thought I had been vicitimized by some spyware/adware/virus infection and took measures. After countless hours, I finally gave up and bought a new hard drive, installed it, and put on a fresh copy of Windows 98 SE from my recovery CD.

It worked fine - for a while.

Now the computer is exhibiting the same symptoms with the new drive as it did with the old drive. I tried running the Seagate SeaTools to see if I could find any abmormalities and it checked out fine. What is odd is that the computer locks up at no particular place, with no particular interval of time. Quite often I can't even get it past the Windows splash screen.

My uneducated opinion is that this has to be a hardware issue, and I'm feeling frustrated by my inability to isolate the problem. If anyone can make suggestions as how I should proceed, I would be very grateful, indeed.

I am thinking about zeroing and reformatting my desktop and then reloading. My XP OS has about 4-5 upgrade CD's. I have an early version of Vista before it was commercially available, but installed then immediatly uninstalled that piece of &*^%.

Can I buy Windows - 7 and simply load it as a brand new installation? Or, as I've been warned, do I have to bring all the XP versions back up to date?

Can anybody make anything that isn't a pain in the ass?

Thanks.

From what I can see, you can not upgrade from XP but you can from Vista. So if you have XP you will need to do a complete install, probably haveing to format, but I'm not positive of that. I don't have Vista, but I did pre-order Win 7 from Newegg. I figured it's only $99, (sale ends today the 20th) so what the heck.. I'll give it a try..

Hello

please can you help me?

I run Windows 8.1 and have installed Windows Live Essentials but the install seemed corrupted as I couldn't open the program. The error said that wldlog.dll, wldcore.dll, uxctl.dll were missing. I installed them back using Dll-Files Fixer but the program still didin't work.

I then tried to uninstall Windows Live Essentials with Revo Uninstaller but it said some files are missing. I tried forced uninstall but it failed too, it said some files are missing but didn't say which ones.

If I try opening Windows Live Mail it gives an error, it cannot find an entry point to msmail.dll

I want to completely remove Windows Live Essentials so that I can try a clean re installation but I cannot manage, I think some files are either missing or corrupted and whatever I try fails.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:What Is The Proper Order To Install "Drivers" During Fresh Windows 7-10 Install?

First step use the media creation tool to make a USB upgrade copy of 10 instalation. For your initial Win7 install just a fresh installation of Windows 7 SP1 and LAN drivers then activate no need to install any other updates or drivers. Once you are sure it's activated then run the USB install you made earlier. The installation and subsequent updates should take care of everything else. If not then you can install any drivers it misses.

Hi everyone!I have this frustrating problem with an installation of Windows Live Essentials on a Windows 7 (64bit) machine. I previously had Windows Live Messenger and Mail installed, but then installed Microsoft Office Outlook to replace Windows Live Mail. I attempted to uninstall Windows Live Essentials to no avail. I think messed around it and have tried ever so many registry tweaks, cleaners and scripts to try and remove all traces of the Essentials suite. It seems completely uninstalled (even now I can see no sign of any Windows Live product). On reinstalling Windows Live Essentials, I now get an error which is highly frustrating:I have tried the fixes for similiar errors but yet again to no avail. I appreciate any answers ThanksJay

First, I have been running running Windows Security Essentials for about a year or so. When I did an update about 3 weeks ago, it refused to restart. I decided to do a repair/re-install. The install said that I needed to remove any anti-virus/anti-malware software I had. So I uninstalled my Malwarebytes, A-squared, and Spybot. I attempted another install. No go. Same error. When I checked my Security settings, I found that CyberDefender was installed. I cannot recall installing this and what's worse, I can't uninstall it! I tried to do a manual removal. No such luck. After a few hours of frustration, I installed Windows Defender (it works fine, it just won't do a daily scheduled scan for some reason), Malwarebyutes, and A-squared. Evrything works fine, but it bugs me that I cannot uninstall CyberDefender. Anything that refuses to uninstall worries me. What else is this thing doing? I tried Tom Coyote Forums (I used it years ago) and was directed to this site. I guess Tom Coyoyte Forums is no longer around.

Anyway, here is my dds.txt:

I'm pulling my hair out!

I installed a fresh copy of WinXP Home on an IBM T22 laptop. As soon as I plug in my ethernet cable, I get an error saying NT Authority Shutdown. I know it's the Sasser/Blaster worm, but still... WTF?!?!?!?

It's a brand new install... I didn't go anywhere on the web with it yet. As soon as I go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com, it comes up w/ that message. What... the... fuck?!?!?!?

I tried the Symantec tool... it said it couldn't find the worm; that my PC is NOT infected. I tried the MS patch, but it says it needs other patches prior to that. It's SP1 damn it! And if I try to download 19.1MB of patches from windowsupdate.microsoft.com, then I get that error message within 2 minutes. I can't even freakin' download them.

Any ideas?!?!?!?

I've reformatted the HD 3 times already. I even tried reinstalling WinXP w/o having my ethernet cable plugged in. It worked, but as soon as I plug in the cable, it comes up w/ that message. I only have 1 other PC on my network, it's my main rig, and it's NOT infected.

Any ideas???

ALSO... when I tried to get patches from there, it gave me an error saying that my system time/date is incorrect. But, it IS correct. What's up with that? And, it won't let me download any more patches from windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Damn it!!! Why is it so hard installing a fresh copy of WinXP Home w/ SP1 on the IBM T22?!?!?!?!?!?!? This s... Read more

Answer:Fresh install of WinXP Home; NT Authority/Shutdown; it's a fresh install! Why? Plz!

It can get the worm within minutes of attaching to the internet. This is why you need a firewall of some sort. This is actually a pretty common occurence. Download the standalone blaster and sasser hotfixes to CD, for later use, or get a firewall.

On a brand new ASRock A75 Extreme6 with an AMD A4-3300 Llano APU, 4GB DDR3-1600 Corsair, 4x Seagate 2TB drives, and 3x Samsung 2TB drives, I am able to install Windows Home Server v1, WHS 2011, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7 without a hitch. Despite being an A4-3000, it's actually a pretty snappy processor, probably thanks to the Radeon HD6410 integrated GPU.

But when it comes to Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, the installation freezes at the first blue Windows logo screen. I use a thumb drive to install Windows - the very same thumb drive I used to install two other Windows 8 machines. I tried every USB ports in that computer with the same results, but I don't think it's the USB port because I install all of the other Windows operating system using USB as well (I didn't install a DVD drive in that media server).

I tried waiting for awhile in case it's just slow. When Windows 7 first came out, my game rig also took ages to install until a BIOS update fixed it, but still, that "ages" was just 60-70 minutes. The blue Windows 8/2012 logo sits there all night long and the light on the USB flash drive isn't blinking anymore, which indicates it's not being read.

Anyone have any idea what I might need to do to get the installation working? Tonight I'm going to check on the BIOS version and see if there's any new updates for it.

Hello, I have a user that purchased a Lenovo laptop and is having problems downloading drivers to support the machine now that it has Windows 7 (via Volume Licensing) on it. When running System Update after Windows updates, it will tell me that "There are no drivers that are applicable" when I know for a fact that he does not have touchpad software or the ability to light up his keyboard. When trying to install the Synaptics UltraNav Touchpad Driver it will tell me that a touchpad doesn't exist. Any help would be great, -Bobstod

I have a number of Dell 8700 Towers as well as a number of laptops, everything runs Windows 7, as I need it to for work related things.

I just unboxed an 8700 tower that was mistakenly sold as a Windows 7 computer from new. It's Windows 8.  From what I read online (tell me if I'm understanding it correctly) as long as it's a Windows computer with the Windows 8 key properly licensed in the bios or wherever it's tucked in from new, that the Windows 7 will load and work with my Windows 7 disc. and automatically work with some generic key...  Is this correct?    I'm in a pinch, and can't wait for a new key to arrive from Ebay or wherever, (I'm working on this over the weekend) and the last time I asked Microsoft for any help with something like this I was on the phone for 2 hours and didn't get anything solved.
Thanks for your input!

Answer:Can I install Windows 7 on a Windows 8 desktop if I have the disc and a fresh hard drive?

Windows 8 Pro carries 7 downgrade rights - if it's Windows 8, non-Pro -- you'll need to purchase a new license to use Windows 7.
You can also upgrade systems to Windows 10 if they came with Windows 8.

Hello and good day to everyone on the Forum,

I was hoping I could get some help, with regards to my HP Pavilion Media Center Desktop..I recently had to perform a clean/fresh install of Windows XP, using the system recovery disks that came with my computer..Once everything has been re-installed, my computer is equipped with Windows XP Media Center Edition and Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 2..The problem I'm having, is once I go into Windows Update to re-install all the necessary updates..I receive the message: The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view - Error Number: 0x8024400A ..No updates are shown or given to me..Also not sure if it helps, but my recovery disks come with Norton Internet Security 2006, which is outdated..So, I'm not sure if this is causing some kind of conflict..Or maybe I'm doing something wrong when I'm performing the clean/fresh install of Windows XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..Also, please keep in mind that my computer skills are average at best..Thanking everyone in advance for their time and patience.

I built up a new PC before Christmas. These were the components:

Asus P8Z77-V Motherboard
Intel i5 3570K 3.4GHz
2 x G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
PowerColor HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card
OCZ 120GB Agility 3 SSD

Not really used it that much and have had random crashes since built. Today, I decided to start afresh and reformatted the C drive and re-installed Windows. Although the OS installed without a hitch, at various times throughout the Windows Update process, the machine would crash a BSOD would appear.

I have attached the files as requested.

Can anyone advise me on what is the best approach to resolving this issue?

Cheers

Whereas ntkrnlmp.exe and win32k.sys, none of them cannot be the real probable cause of a crash. Do these tests, one by one.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Stress test the CPU.
Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

It has been very frustrating to rebuilding a Windows 7 desktops last year or so.  After the installation of Windows7 Home or Pro SP1 disks click on Check Updates and it could run for 2 days before it lists the 240 updates to install.  Anyway
to speed this up?  I know Microsoft wants us to use Windows 10 but some businesses and older home hardware have to have Windows 7.  I wish and hope this torcher will stop soon and Microsoft comes up with a fix.  Any help is appreciated!!!

My specs are:

Gigabyte GA-P55-UDR3 Motherboard
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD
Corsair RAM (sorry don't have specs right now)
i5-750 CPU

I think I have ruled out all other components. I have a new SSD (which is used for my boot/programs drive), I have tried a different optical drive, I have nothing plugged into the motherboard other than my graphics card, I have tried reinstalling Windows several times and I am getting all the proper voltages in the BIOS.

After I successfully install Windows and it reboots I get hung up at the Windows boot logo. It just sits there and the logo is actually moving slightly but I cannot get past it. I have tried flashing new BIOS on my MB, I have run a MEMtest and my RAM checks out fine and loading the optimal defaults. What is strange is I can take my SSD out and load Windows on another PC and it will boot fine. :??:

Check the OCZ website or contact OCZ tech support to be sure you have the latest firmware version installed on your SSD.

My dad had this issue a few months ago. Turned out OCZ had shipped a bunch of drives that had the same problem; the firmware update solved it.

Hope this helps.

Hello all,

My computer recently caught a virus and I had to reformat my computer. I have reformatted this machine before without a single problem.

First problems appeared after the initial re-format and install. Installing various games and drivers would wind up alerting me that various dll files were missing. After following a 10? step guide to troubleshoot these errors nothing worked and the final step was to conduct another fresh install of windows.

I was also considering that maybe my hard drive was going bad so I did a fresh install on my second hard drive and the same problems occurred.

I did however, manage to get one of the installs to remain relatively stable, but it still has the same problems.

And finally, I purchased a brand new SSD (samsung 830 series) and did a new fresh install to it. Everything seemed to go fine until I began running windows updates (after getting Security essentials installed and my video drivers). Windows updates got hung up on the on screen in application install screen in the middle of approximately 130 updates. I then clicked the stop installation button and nothing happened. The updates screen would not change. I left it alone for awhile and came back. Still nothing. I then told the computer to restart. It then proceeded to hang on the shutdown screen. (i let this remain overnight hoping it would shut down) It did not. I was forced to hard reset the system and now the same issue is happening after installing microsofts fix it app... Read more

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

If you didn't follow the Best Practices for Clean Reinstall after resetting BIOS to defaults, setting SATA controller to AHCI, unplugging all other HD's and peripherals.

Drivers are handled differently in Win7 than before so make sure to read and understand that part. If you changed out any from what Win7 wants then I would do it over. If you're running with the installer chipset then you can try the one from the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC or mobo.

As you work through the Troubleshooting steps post back results as there may be other steps suggested.

Hi all

I am new here and apologize in advance if this question has been asked but I cannot seem to find threads regarding my question.

Recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro a few days back from Win 8.1 and all went perfect but now I would like to make a clean install.

Will my current Windows Storage Space Drives (4) be recognized automatically or will I have to start from scratch.

Answer:Will a FRESH install of Windows 10 recognize my Windows Storag Spaces

Hi there

I'm a big user of storage spaces. No problems at all with new W10 install. W10 storage spaces are reasonably robust so you can clean install with no loss of data.

(Storage spaces created from W8 / W8.1 are fine too when doing a CLEAN install of W10 as well as an upgrade).

When I launch the update, Windows Update just keep looking for updates withtout finding nothing and then after a long time, it show an error msg, I got two different for the moment : 8024400a and 8024402F
I have attached the CBS logs if someone can have a look.

I don't want to upgrade. I just want to do a fresh copy to 64 bit. Can I do that without having to boot my PC with the DVD? Can I instead mount an image of Windows 7 64 bit on my Windows 7 32 bit OS and do a fresh install that way?

Answer:Quick question: Can I install fresh copy of Windows 7 x64 on my 32 bit Windows 7?

That 64 image has to be from that computer. Porting any OS to another system will confuse Windows, all it's hardware settings are all the sudden changed.

Hi all,

Just have a quick question about installing Live Essentials 2011. I've tried and got the error message: Couldn't Install Program - You already have different build flavor of Live

So I need to uninstall my current version. But I want to be sure I won't lose everything (emails, contacts) I now have in Windows Live Mail. A new install will simply transfer everything into the 2011 version?

And I can deselect Messenger during install? I hate Messenger...

Thanks,
Tuck

Answer:Windows Live Essentials Install Question

E-mails and contacts should remain on your online mail account servers; as long as you don't have them set to delete the mail there after downloading, which I don't think anybody does anymore since e-mail account space allocation is usually very generous. You'll probably have to download/import them again to the new version of the client.
After uninstalling the Messenger, yes, indicate you want to choose which components of Live you want to download and leave Messenger off the list.

Upon several fresh installations of Windows 7 SP1 on a formatted HDD, on a new computer that I have accumulated my windows will not update. I usually get a 8e5e03fa on the windows update window. All other software installs and works flawlessly.

At first I thought it was a rootkit or some sort and after scanning with Malwarebytes, GMER, DDS, Combofix, TDSKILLER, and even after changing hard drives the problem persists.

I have ran sfc /scan and attempted to fix errors to no avail. I ran it 3x as directed. I am not able to look or copy at the log file, it says I do not have permissions even though I am the only administrator and even tried to manually change the permissions, I do not have access to this log.

I have done the new root2 folder, the problem persists.

I have ran 2 microsoft update fixit tools. the problem persists.

I have ran the update stand alone installer and it crashes immediately with 0xc80003fa error.

I get this error when I try to install .net 4.0 so my graphics card drivers would work, HRESULT 0xc80003fa

Other tutorials that I have followed to no avail:

Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2

I am exhausted, can someone help me?

I don't get it. Twice i've tried to install windows live essentials, and both times is says that it succeeded. However, when i go to my start menu, there is no entry for Windows Live essentials, its not in "Program files" OR "Program Files(x86)" and its not even listed in "Program features". Its basically non-existent on my machine. all i wanted was to install movie maker. I open the installer, select the photo viewer/Movie Maker package, and click install. Then after a two minute wait, it tells me the install was successful and for me to click the close button to start using live essentials. I'm stumped! I only have one partition on my HDD, and the files are not there, so that rules out the files being my hard disk. And they were not installed on my flash drive. So does anyone what happened or where the files went?

Now it says that I have an earlier version of Windows Essentials installed, Error 80280007, and i have to uninstall those programs.

I can't find where those "newer" programs are on my computer. I uninstalled them from the programs list and deleted all the cache folders out of my App Data. I've restarted my computer, but nothing works. It still gives me the same error message.

I was having problems with Windows Live Mail in Windows 7 so I deleted the Windows Live Essentials from the computer. I subsequently could not reinstall. After much effort I gave up and upgraded to Windows 10 where all programs appear to work except that once again I cannot install Windows Live Essentials. I have turn ON the Windows Firewall and removed all Windows Live folders from my computer. The program gives the error message "It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working." Error message 0x80040609. In addition to turning Firewall on, I disabled Norton temporarily but the program gave the same message. Any idea what programs might be interfering or how I could get the program installed? I am most interested in Windows Live Mail and need to get it up and running as soon as possible.

Download Windows 10 Client Connector Update for Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2 as it now available at Microsoft.

Windows Server Essentials Connector is software that helps you connect your PC or Mac client to Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Windows Server Essentials Experience server role enabled. It also enables and manages key client-side functionality of Windows Server Essentials Experience. On a PC, it provides client backup, a tray icon and the Launchpad, the Dashboard for management of remote servers, and a VPN profile with the capability of auto-dialing and monitoring client health from the server side. On a Mac, it provides health monitoring and the Launchpad.

Really I know to update drivers from manufacturers websites, but mainly just curious as to what programs are favored with everyone. Anti virus, registry cleaners, disk defrag, whatever else. Also wondering if Windows Defender is worth keeping or if any other Windows programs that are preloaded should be removed.

Answer:Fresh install of Windows 10 what next?

Hi, you don't need to update drivers manually unless you have a clear problem. Windows does that for you.
It's hardly worth bothering removing some of the universal apps you don't use, but you're welcome to do so.

What you should do first is start routinely using disk imaging to protect your PC, your data and perhaps your sanity.

Here's my write-up on the value of disk imaging.

Everyone who contributes regularly here uses and recommends disk imaging.

If you use it, you can recover from:
- a failed disk drive (restore to a new one)
- ransomware (which encrypts your disk)
- user error
- unrecoverable problems from failed updates to problem programs
- unbootable PC (hardware faults aside)

Images also act as a full backup- you can extract files too.

You can even use images to help you move more easily and quickly to a new PC.
Can be used with Laplink software to transfer your build automatically to another PC

Imaging can even help you sleep at night knowing you have a second chance.

Creating disk images lets you restore Windows and all your imaged disks and partitions to a previous working state from compressed copies you have created and kept updated on external storage media, quickly and probably without technical help.

Many here recommend Macrium Reflect (free) as a good robust solution and more reliable than some others. It’s
- more feature rich
- more flexible
- more reliable
than Windows Backup and Restore system images.

It's well supported with videos, ... Read more

I have a new T510 laptop and, although it seems like it should be fast on paper, I'm not really impressed with the "out of the box" Windows 7 performance (it's running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit). Boot time and loading the desktop are particularly unimpressive; I have seen lower-spec'd machines that boot/load the desktop faster. Usually, whenever I get a new laptop, the first thing I do is wipe the pre-installed OS and put a fresh-install of the OS on. Of course, there is no Windows installation media with this machine, although I'm aware that I can create recovery DVDs. Is it possible to do a fresh/OEM install of Windows 7 (using the license I paid for when I bought the machine) from the recovery volume? If not, what are my options? I have Windows 7 installation from MSDNAA, but I'm guessing the key wouldn't work with that. Thanks.

Answer:Fresh Windows 7 Install

Hi, you are right, MSDN installation media will not work with Product key on your Lenovo laptop. I have used clean Winodws 7 fro MSDN as well (but if you have MSDN, you must have product keys my friend, so what is the problem???) and after half year i have returned to standard preinstalled OS from hidden partition. There are some for me not necessary apps and utils preinstalled, so i have uninstalled them and honestly, there is no big differenc ein boot time. Keep in mind, you have to install some applications anyway, nobody use just clean Windows OS. After several months of usage you will find, there is no difference. And honestly, several secondsa in boot time make no sense, important is overall performance during work. And there is absolutely no difference. Thats my experience. Its only psychological effect more or less.

I received my free upgrade to Windows 10 Home from Windows 8.1. I am highly considering purchasing an upgrade key for Windows 10 Pro for $99. My question is: If I were do perform that upgrade, and later on in the future I have to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows, will I be able to use that Win10 Pro key to perform the fresh install, or would I need to install Windows 10 Home first, then upgrade?

Answer:Fresh Install of Windows 10 Pro

I don`t see why you would have to start all over again, you should just be able to do clean installs and Windows 10 Pro should auto activate.

Others please correct me if I`m wrong.

Why not just make disk images so you don`t have to re install ?

So i currently have 8.1 and i would like to reformat my Partition and do a clean install of windows 10. I have downloaded the windows 10 CD boot from here Windows 10 i have windows 8.1 home so i downloaded windows 10 home. And when i was doing the installation. it was asking me for my Product key. I typed in my Product key but it said " it did not recognize my Product key" So i quit the installation. I was wondering why it did not recognize my product key when we have the upgrade for free.
Is there any other way to do a fresh install on windows 10? because i really would like to reformat my main partition and then do the installation of windows 10

Answer:How to do a fresh install of windows 10?

Hello, and welcome to Ten Forums.

When you upgrade with the free reserved copy from the GWX app on an activated Windows 7 or 8.1 PC, Windows 10 has a generic key included that will activate it.

If you clean or upgrade install Windows 10 without doing the above first, Windows 10 will not be activated.
Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading with free upgrade?

Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation. You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

How can I do it without buying a new copy of windows 10?

Answer:Windows 10 Pro fresh re-install

It's tied to your system. Or your motherboard. So if it's activated now, when you reformat it will stay activated.

OK, PC I'm working on is a HP m8200n with integrated video card. The PSU fan was inop causing over heat condition, case fan was noisy and the HD had corrupt files for boot up Bsod. I replaced the PSU from a 300 watt to a 430 watt, new case fan and new HD WD from a Seagate 500g. Now at the very end of installation completing, the screen went to a smaller size as though it was adjusting from video driver, then again adjusting to a screen that could not see (all lines ). I left it alone but it did not reboot, cold boot just made me have to reinstall OS. I have never seen this before and assumed it was due to the windows 7 drivers it was installing.I ended up reinstalling Vista.Any thoughts or has anyone run into this before?

My problem is that I am unable to do a fresh install of Windows 7 over and existing installation.

I've been working on this problem for over 2 weeks and can't make any progress. I won't bore you with all the details but here's a brief summary of the background:

-I'm working on an older computer that was being used as a back up.
-It had Win 7 Ultimate and Win XP installed in a dual boot arrangement
-After a Win 7 crash, the system wouldn't boot past the Boot Manger screen (it froze)
-After a lot of different attempts, It finally would boot to Win 7 but the Boot Manager screen was still frozen. (It timed out to Win 7)
-Win 7 operated like it was stuck in molasses (CPU usage at 100%)
-I removed Win XP and formatted that partition and using tutorials from this forum and changed the bootmgr to remove XP as a choice
-Win 7 boots but still runs like molasses.

I decided to give up and reinstall Windows.
-I have the BIOS set to boot first from the DVD drive, 2nd from the HDD
-When I try to boot from the Windows DVD, I get the message "Searching for boot record from CD"
-Then I get the message, "Press any key to boot from CD". I do this but the system still boots from the HDD to Win 7

I have attempted F11 & F12 from the POST screen but the system seems to ignore this and still boots to Win 7.

I have searched for suggestions but most recommend booting from a system restore disk or the Win 7 disk which doesn't work.

I suspect that my pro... Read more

Make and use a Partition Wizard boot cd.

Boot from the cd.

Delete the entire drive down to unallocated space.

Then create a Primary Partition, then align, format and mark it active ( all done with PW cd)

Click apply in the top left corner.

Remove the cd, put your install disc in and restart the PC.

Use the 1 time boot menu key to bring up the boot menu and choose your cd/dvd drive.

Hello, I have Acer E1-470-6806 from BestBuy Montreal, Canada in 2013/14. It came with preinstalled Windows 8. I want to reinstall Windows 8 as Linux was installed on it and it does not have any recovery partion as well. I don't see any product key sticker on the laptop, wondering how could use an Windows 8 ISO to install it and then download all acer drivers manually to have my Windows 8 machine ready. Please advice.

Answer:Fresh install Windows 8

acerck, Your Windows product key is stored on a chip on the mainboard.  When you install Windows 8, the Windows 8 installer automatically retrieves it.  Windows will automatically activate when you connect to the internet.  There's no need to enter a product key. Here's vanilla Windows 8.1: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 You can also purchase your eRecovery media from Acer: http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/ https://store.acer.com/store/acerna/DisplayDataValidationServicePage http://store.acer.com/store/acerna/en_US/home/ThemeID.30483300 There's lots of posts on this forum that give step-by-step instructions on how to install vanilla Windows 8.1 or Acer erecovery media.

I am looking for some help with a windows xp fresh install. It's been 2 days of unsuccessful attempts for me.

I changed mobo and processors in my computer as well as update ram. When I went to install windows xp, it would get to 8% of the install and then tell me that an error has occured and windows will shut down. I tried several times over and got the same error. My hard drive was formatted for the fresh install so there was no windows program running on the harddrive. I search the net and found a thread that said to check the memory. I removed one of the modules from the mobo and low and behold, I installed windows.
After installation completed, I installed the drivers for the mobo, video card and other things. I started to install some software and when I did a restart on the computer, the system just started constantly rebooting after it was running fine. Threads indicated a possible memory prob. Changed the memory stick and still nothing. I was able to go into safe mode and turn off the constant reboot to get and error message and then searched that error message. I checked for more threads and found that there may be a Netgear wireless problem with the driver and sp2. They suggested removing the wireless card and then restarting the computer. I did that and nothing. I changed power supplies thinking that maybe power was not getting to all of the hardware for some reason. Now when I started my computer, it would show the mem size and video card in... Read more

I've just purchased a ThinkPad T450s with Windows 7 Pro (installed through downgrade rights of windows 8 pro), and I'd like to: 1) dump the recovery partition into an ISO file so I can back that up and get rid of the partition2) have a fresh vanilla windows 7 Pro install, with my own partition table and without all of the lenovo software for 1) I'm having trouble in that it seems not to be possible to make a backup media onto an ISO file directly, and that windows is for some reason not recognizing the only thumb drive I have (it does appear in the disk management tool, but it's not shown in windows explorer, and the recovery media backup tool is not seeing it. for 2) the problem I'm having is that the only place I've found in microsoft.com to download a windows ISO is asking me for the product key, and there's no sticker on my computer, I read that the key is supposed to be embedded in the BIOS, and while that's all very nice for activation, I cannot download the ISO I'm quite computer literate, and I'm not afraid of doing complex things, but I'd really want to avoid losing my windows license and the recovery media, although this is more or less optional thank you

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any place to download MS Windows 7 media without entering a key these days.  There isn't a key in BIOS for Windows 7 activation.  There's a Windows 8 key.  Lenovo Windows 7 media will activate automatically but not MS media AFAIK.

The MS-sanctioned way to activate a clean Win 7 install on a "7 by way of downgrade rights" is pretty strange:  use MS media (if you can find it) and an existing already-in-use key.  Let activation fail and call.

I want to fresh install Windows 7 on my new SSD. My Windows is OEM version with product key on the laptop. Can I download Windows 7 ISO and enter my product key for Windows 7 OEM? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Fresh install of Windows 7

thunderstorm773 Basically -- no.  Most likely, since the HP OEM versions are not available for download, then any version you do download is likely to be Retail, and those will not activate using the HP OEM key that came with your laptop. What will work is restoring your machine to its original factory condition using HP Recovery Media. This is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks.  You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update".  If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entty and click on Order Media for details.Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you ge... Windows 7 installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates.

Only provide your own drivers if any are missing in Device Manager, or performance dictates.

This is not XP or even Vista. MS spent a fortune getting Win7 drivers in the installer and via Updates.

Hi guys,

I've been wanting to ask this for a few weeks but felt I needed to search properly before creating a new post, but after not being able to find one, i have decided to ask....

I am looking to perform a clean install of Windows 7 on my desktop. (wipe the hard drive clean). Now the PC is a custom built one, IE not a specific model.

I have had problems before when reformatting my laptop by wiping the hard drive with drivers for everything (wireless being the worst!) and only managed to get around it by googleing the laptops make and model and downloading the drivers off the manufactures website.

Since my desktop  is a custom built one (Build by overclockers), is there any 3rd party software, or even better, Windows software, which will allow me to extract all the drivers installed on the PC and burn them onto a disk so I can just install them off that once I have formatted the hard drive?

I hope I have explained this properly and that someone can help. It would be greatly apprciated.

Kind regards,
