E5-571-563B Touchpad Randomly Sticking

Question: E5-571-563B Touchpad Randomly Sticking

For reference, my laptop is running the pre-installed Windows 8.1 OS. I got the laptop about a month ago, and it's had this problem seemingly at least once every few days or once a week, and has been going on since I took it out of the box. The tap-to-click seems to end up sticking making it as if I am holding it down to highlight or click & drag until eventually the cursor freezes, and nothing except restarting my laptop will stop it from doing that. I don't have the "Device Settings" tab in "Mouse Properties" in Control Panel (there is no "Touchpad properties") where I would think I could change something like palm sensitivity or edge scroll or something. "Mouse Properties" shows that it's using Microsoft drivers for it from 2006, and in Device Manager, the only device under "Mouse and Pointing Devices" is "HID-compliant Mouse", which seems to be the same thing from Control Panel. I was told to install the Synaptics Touchpad Driver, but it did nothing. I found it under Human Interface Devices as "Synaptics HID Device", but it neither upgraded the driver, nor did it show anything for a touchpad in the "Mouse and Pointing Devices", though it did show that it went through the process in the events tab of the Synaptics, it just isn't using the new driver. I went back to Acer Support and they said that I'd have to either do a Factory Reset (which is an issue because I don't know what happened to cause this in the first place), or to send it in for repair which could take 2-3 weeks (which is also an issue because i have no other computers and I use this one a lot). Has anyone managed to fix this? Does sending it for repair actually work? And if not, what laptop should I replace it with (with similar specs that Runs Windows 8.1, preferably.)? I've been trying to solve this for 2 weeks, googling everything I can think of tweaking Mouse Settings in Control Panel and the Metro UI, reading every post I can find, and went through Acer Support to seemingly no avail.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a nagging problem on my wife's G570 laptop which I am using for work (until I can upgrade to a newer Thinkpad). The right button on the trackpad has started to stick. It still works but requires more pressure than the left button. It appears to be crud built up under the button. Is there a way to pull the button for cleaning? Or perhaps flush it out?  My wife wants her laptop back as soon as my "new" Thinkpad gets here and I don't want to return it to her with a buggered button.

Hello! I bought a Lenovo E50 laptop a few months ago and from day 1 I have had problems with the touchpad, but I haven't had time to address it properly.  The issue: The touchpad behaves as if somebody is touching it (as if you would hold the right click down) for a few minutes at random times. The consequence is that it zooms in and out, is very hard to move the cursor and clicks on stuff. What have I tried so far and had no results: reinstall driver, change Elan settings (desactivate all scrolling, zooming etc).   Any suggestions how I might deal with this? Thank you in advance

When using the laptop synaptics touchpad the cursor keeps sticking. Pressing "enter" seems to allow it to move again but only for a few seconds. The cursor works fine if a mouse is plugged in but it sticks terribly if using the touchpad. Has anybody got any ideas for a fix?

Answer:laptop touchpad cursor sticking

Have a look at the synaptics' properties (usually easier to get to via right clicking the icon in the notification bar) and disable multi finger gestures, swipes etc., effectively setting it to one finger operation. Works much better on my HP laptop since I did this.

Hi I have an X100e (dual core turion ybased) which appears to have developed a problem with the left most key at the foot of the touchpad. Specifically, it has developed an annoying clicking sound periodically when in use. I believe the click may be something to do with a bar that may be sitting under the key to ensure that the whole key moves parallel to the keyboard when pressed (much like other wide keys such as the space bar, the shift or enter kes). What I would like to know is whether there is a way to reseat the key to resolve the clicking sound or whether rectification of the problem lies in returning the product to a service centre for the palm rest (part code: 60Y5284) to be changed. Roger

The left mouse button on the U31.70 laptop I have ocassionally will stay stuck down after being pressed.  It is very intermittent and sometimes the laptop is fine for a few days, but then every so often it seems to happen a great deal.  t has done it from a few months old and it will soon be out of warranty,  I have updated the touchpad drivers, but this has made no difference. Is this a known fault with this model?

On occasion, for no apparent reason, my screen will rotate to any orientation. I have to put it into, and out of, sleep mode in order to get the orientation back to where needed. Also, on occasion, for no apparent reason, I lose the ability to use my touchpad and keyboard, and need to use the touchscreen in order to do anything. I also need to put it into, and out of, sleep mode in order to regain use of the touchpad and keyboard.  I've updated all software and drivers out of frustration, but nothing has helped. Help!!

HiI have no idea what kind of memory or how to upgrade my laptop. It now has 6gb ddr3 l memory installed. I read the box it came in and said it can be expanded up to 16 gb and would like to try. I have installed memory before in my gateway intel i3 and also a desktop pc I have. This is my new pc and would like some help. Please. Thanks

Answer:Aspire E5-571-563B How to upgrade Memory?

For this, you MUST check with Acer Support, as warranty tags are everywhere, and they can provide the best info for you and your computer. Memory upgrades can be simple, to very diffcult, due to the placement of them. You can do it yourself, but prepare for the risks involved. You never know if you voided warranty or break/lose a part.

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing (it won't respond to taps and sometimes stops scrolling, but the right and left click continue to work).  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only four days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.  Now Dell says that means the problem is on my end.
I haven't downloaded any new programs, everything is up-to-date, and when I check the touchpad settings, it shows everything as being enabled.  The touchpad stops working randomly, on different websites and in different programs.  I never had this problem on any previous Dell laptops.  I can't think what I might be doing to cause this issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, On my Travelmate B115 (that I've barely used at all), the touchpad randomly stops working. If I deactivate it and activate it (Fn+F7 twice) it starts working again, but I have to do that once every two minutes, and it's really annoying. Sometimes it also is very slow or imprecise in its movements, and it seems sometimes that it clicks without my wanting it to (it could be that I'm grazing the pad without noticing sometimes, but I'm really writing "in the air" with only my fingers touching the computer's keys now to avoid it, and it still happens).I am extremely frustrated since this laptop is brand new. Can anyone help me?Elisabeth

The mouse cursor is either restricted to just moving vertically up and down or it randomly moves itself all over the place. NOT a virus or malware causing it, I've checked it thoroughly. Is it fixable or do I have to get another complete palm rest and touch pad part? Which of course would be used and possibly have the same failure. Just got done putting it back together from taking the keyboard and display off to tighten all the hinge screws. The right hinge inside the lid was just about to come loose completely. Now it's nearly tight as new. While I had it apart I disconnected and reconnected the touch pad cable, hoping it might just be a bad connection there. No change.

I have a new G50-80 that has a strange touchpad issue. Randomy the touchpad will respond sluggishly or not at all. At other times using the touchpad will cause web pages and the like to resize, as if I was using two fingers. The tray icon also shows two or more pressure indicators when the touchpad is playing up. What is the best course of action? I have already tried updating the touchpad drivers with no success.

There as a thread on this but I'm posting a new on because that one is marked as solved, but it is not solved, the solution accepted there is a non-solution as far as I'm concerned (uninstall Ultranav and install software from Synaptics). The issue is, with touchpad enabled, and tapping disabled, at random intervals, it reenables itself. This is extremely annoying, especially as the tapping is so very sensitive and has no sensitivity adjustment, so one suddenly finds oneself accidentally performing actions as unintended click events happen. It is extremely random. Sometime months will pass without it reenabling itself. Other times it starts happening every day or so, and then will revert to behaving itself for another couple months. Docking and undocking seem to make it worse. Sometimes it seems it happens on unsleeping, but not always.  I have a T61, running Windows XP SP3. This problem has happened for me as long as I've had this laptop, over a year, and across a number of UltraNav updates (as other system updates...I generally keep major components updated like BIOS, Powermanager, and Ultranav). PLEASE fix this, it's driving me nuts! Thanks, Eric

Answer:Touchpad tapping renables itself randomly

Similar problem - R61 on XP/SP3, Touchpad reactivates itself after "standby" and has now started to reactivate itself randomly.   Really really irritating.  I never use the Touchpad but there is no way to totally disable it.

Hi! T420 touchpad dies and trackpoint keeps on working. Sometimes after some time the trackpoint may also die. After boot, touchpad & trackpad recovers and is working maybe for an hour, or a day. Then it reoccurs. This happens randomly on some T420's, while other T420's doesnt encounter it never-ever. Any tips how to troubleshoot this one? Ran Lenovo PC Doctor and everything is fine, also cant find anything suspicious in Windows logs. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I have a very annoying problem:
My touch pad is deactivating and activating itself all the time. As if i would constantly press fn+f9 (several times in a row). I had this problem before but it just stopped. It seems the problem occurs more often when using the keyboard.
And the small on/off-Button doesn't seem to work.
I cleaned the keyboard and removed the F9-button in case but the only result was that I can't put it back as it won't stay in position...

please help me. I can barely use the keyboard as I am constantly interrupted by the touch pad on/off-message.

cheers,
kashel

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547 running Win 8.1. Every now and then the scroll feature (two fingers vertical swipe to scroll the screen), and the two finger tap for right click, will stop working. When this happens, all the other features on the touchpad seem to work. If I restart the laptop it starts working again. I've tried going into services.msc and setting 'Human Interface Devices" to automatic startup, but it doesn't help. There's something else pretty weird also... When I go into the system tray (lower right), right click the touchpad icon, and select Touchpad Properties, it takes me into the Dell Pointing Devices windows. Inside this window, there is a sliding switch to disable the touchpad. When I disable it, the touchpad still works. Weird. Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this sorted out. I'm also using a wireless USB mouse on the same laptop, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Answer:Touchpad scroll dies randomly

Hi Jools

Personally I would look to see what touchpad driver version you are using and then either update it with an in-place update, or uninstall (my favourite option, then install new driver) the current driver and then re-install, as it may just be a slight corruption.

Latest driver HERE
Also a thought, when the touchpad stops with the scroll feature, had your laptop been left not used for a period of time, like hibernation?

For the past couple of weeks, the touchpad and keyboard on my laptop have either been shutting down randomly at different times or dont work at all when I start up. Sometimes both work, sometimes only my keyboard works, and then sometimes only my keyboard will work amd than eventually it will shut down too.I just want to know what could be causing this and if I can fix it on my own. Hey guys.

I have never had this problem before so I don't know what to do.

While on my laptop my touchpad will randomly stop moving. I can still zoom in and out by pinching, I can right click and left click, but I cannot move the pointer . As soon as I plug in my mouse, the touchpad works again. I can unplug the mouse and it will still work for a few minutes then the problem will happen again.

I'm running windows 7 64bit,

I also have not installed anything recently.

See if reinstalling the touchpad driver from the laptop's manufacturer's website helps.

The touchpad stops working randomly when the computer is woken back from sleep and it has to be rebooted to get it going agin. An externally connected mouse will work fine during that time. Is this due to a possibly faulty touchpad??

Answer:The touchpad on my V3-331 stops working randomly.

Hi Jithin1,

It is possible to be a defective touchpad. I would suggestion a few things you can try on your own before looking into service options.

Update or reinstall touchpad drivers
Refresh the PC to see if that takes care of any issues.
Reload the PC entirely if possible

If you continue having issues, contact your local Acer support team so that they can help setup services to take care of the touchpad issues you're having.

Minor issue - but annoying....I like to use the touchpad to move the mouse, but I don't like the 'tap to click' feature, so I uncheck the 'enable tapping' option in the UltraNav mouse driver. Life is good. Then ... every few days ... after I wake my computer (I am lucky and don't need to reboot often .... I usually put the computer to sleep when moving the computer)....  I find the the touchpad is acting as a 'mouse click' and when I go into Mouse control panel, I see that 'enable tapping' has a check mark ("tick" in English-English). I then uncheck this box, and everything works fine for a few days.I haven't been able to identify any specific action that causes this ... and the timing can be every couple of days ... then once every 2-3 weeks.Any ideas?

Answer:Touchpad 'enable tapping' randomly gets turned on

I have a w500 and experience a similar issue. I set the Ultranav to Tracpoint only and in a day or two both tracpoint and touchpad are active. My conclusion is it's an Ultranav driver issue. I may roll back the driver and see if it fixes things.

Ever since I've upgraded my dad's laptop to Windows 10, the keyboard and touchpad stop working randomly, and would work only after I restart the computer. (logging off, switch user, standby mode doesn't resolve it.)
There is no pattern to it. Sometimes it would be ok for a few days, sometimes it would happen again after a few hours. I mostly do internet browsing on the laptop.

When the problem occurred:
- The keyboard AND the touchpad would both stop working at the same time.
- USB mouse still works. (I do not have an external keyboard to test)
- The lights on the keys themselves (eg caps lock, wifi) would still remain on if they're activated but cannot be toggled on/off as usual.
- The device manager still showed no problems with the mouse or keyboard.

Things I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- disabled sticky keys
- used the generic drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- reinstalled the drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- updated to the latest synaptics driver
- made a new synaptics trackpad profile
- disabled touchpad when using the USB mouse

Well, probably not at random, because there has to be a reason.
Lenovo S510p Touch, Windows 8.1, Synaptics TouchPad V7.5, Driver version 16.6.6.3 dated May 17, 2013. Microsoft Office 10 and no oddball software installed.
I changed the touchpad settings to ENABLE vertical scrolling and DISABLE the edge swipes function that causes the hideous Windows popups if you swipe from the left edge. Made the settings as shown in image at the bottom.
The problem is the settings revert to the defaults after a time. It's a pain to reset things several times a day. Can't find anything on the Lenovo site specific to this. Looked at the Synaptics site and they say there's probably another device driver that causes the reset. I tried disabling the touchscreen, but no help there. Too inexperienced (i.e.dumb) to know what else to try.
Ideas? Thanks!

Has anyone experienced this? In UltraNav the reverse scrolling isn't checked but sometiems it just starts scrolling reverse (i.e. cycle fingers up to scroll down and vice versa). The only way I can fix it is to actually go and enable reverse scrolling, and then disable reverse scrolling. I did have to remove the keyboard when I was adding RAM, but pretty sure the touchpad is separate from the keyboard. I do have the latest drivers.

I have multiple Thinkpad T510's...  Using the latest UltraNav driver (15.0.24.0) Under Windows 7 Enterprise x64...  For some reason, the Touchpad will intermittantly become unresponsive...  After 6-10 seconds, the touchpad will begin responding again...  When the touchpad is unresponsive, no functions appear to work (cursor movement, tapping, scrolling, multi finger gestures, etc)...  During the period where the touchpad is unresponsive, the touchpoint or an external mouse move the mouse pointer without issue, and all the touchpad & touchpoint buttons respond normally...  so I know it's not Windows holding back the mouse cursor...I've personally seen the issue in multiple T510's... Has anyone else experienced this with the T410 or T510?  Is there something quirky in the driver?  Anyone know of a solution to keep the touchpad responsive?  (Overall it doesn't sound like a bad problem, but really it's very irritating to have the mouse cursor or scrolling functions, etc randomly stop for 10 seconds when you're working along....)

Seemingly randomly, my keyboard will stop responding to what I type, and my touchpad completely stops as well (no, I did not accidentally click to disable it). These problems will never resolve themselves on their own, but as soon as I reset the computer everything works again - to me, that sounded like a driver crash, but nope! I checked the driver menu and it told me everything was running just fine. What's even more strange is that I have the backlight keyboard enabled so that when I type, it lights up. And strangely, the keys still light up when I press them, so I know it's registering my typing SOME how.

You would also think that this would be a software problem since it fixes immediately upon reset, but I've noticed that this issue seems to crop up a lot right after I have moved my computer... I'm lost and I've scoured the internet for clues, but no one else seems to have this problem. Please help!

In order to possibly do testing on what is causing this (via suggestions hopefully, I've tried everything I can think of) I am purposely not resetting my computer (thankfully this is a touch screen, but this on-screen keyboard typing is obnoxious). Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

Found out my BIOS was out of date
When upgraded to 10 my manufacturer updated the BIOS

Sometimes when I start up my computer, more often than not, when it brings me to my logon screen, I can't use the touchpad or the keyboard at all.  I have to physically touch the screen to let me put my pin in.  Still, neither work, so I end up shutting down and restarting, sometimes more than once, before the touchpad and keyboard start to work again.  I've had this problem for a couple of years now, have been in touch with support, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled my keyboard.  My warranty just expired of course.  I'm ready to throw this computer out of a window.

I have updated the driver for my touchpad, but it still randomly stops recognizing any touch gestures or button clicks. If I restart the computer the touchpad will function normally again. Occasionally I can get it to start working again by pulling up task manager and then closing it. Any suggestions on what else I can try?

In this case, you are advised to perform clean boot and check if there is any software conflict. To know how to do this, the following link can be helpful:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135 If the issue persists even after performing clean boot, then you are advised to take the computer to nearest Acer service center to check if there is any hardware issue. To do this, the following link can be helpful:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact Hope this will help you.

Windows 10 Start Menu opens randomly But I'm Not Using Touch Pad.While reading information on internet or playing a game app or whatever, the Start menu will open. The mouse icon is usually over on the left side of screen (far away from Start Icon) and my hands are not touching keyboard. The notebook is only about 1 1/2 months old. It's been doing this since new. How do I shut down this "feature" down?

Don't know if anyone can help me out but i recently bought a P50-A laptop and i am having issues with the touch-pad.

Basically what is happening is that every now and then my touch-pad randomly locks itself and then wont allow me to unlock and will unlock once I have reset the laptop.

I have checked the drivers and everything appears to be working fine and there appears to be no hardware conflicts.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Have you noticed this behaviour from the first day? Can you enable/disable (lock/unlock) touchpad using F5 (FN+F5)?

I just got my ThinkPad today so I'm pretty pissed off about this. Whenever I try and use the touchpad the cursor will randomly, every now and again, start jumping across and around the page, making it impossible to work with. It will also trigger random gestures, minimizing everything randomly too. I am seriously pissed off, this is ridiculous from Lenovo on a new and recent model. What can I do about this? I don't want to have to send it back a day after getting it.

Answer:E420s touchpad randomly moving cursor (even when not typing)

Okay I managed to fix the problem by installing the Synaptic driver. I have a little annoying problem now that if I hold my thumb on the click while moving the cursor, it is a little more laggy and stuttery than if I just do it without my hand on it.

I have put the option of "Do Nothing" on when lid is closed however, I found out that the laptop will just randomly open files/programs/apps whenever I fully close the lid. I double checked and there is no virus/malware on my system, I've updated everything I can think of, and it only happens whenever I fully close the lid.

I tested it by hooking my IdeaPad Y410p to my TV and I closed the lid and watched the touchpad go crazy on my TV's screen. It only happens if I fully close the laptop lid, but if I leave it open a crack it seems to be okay. There seems to be some sort of interference whenever the lid is too close to the touchpad.

It's very annoying and I've resorted to manually shutting off the touchpad before I fully close the lid or I've just manually shut the screen off on my laptop manually.

It's a shame that Lenovo has neglected this issue and I'm very upset since I found this problem out after the return period and I don't want to go through the hassle of getting it fixed.

If anybody finds a fix to this problem please let me know. I've also tried to find a way to automatically turn off the touchpad whenever I close the lid, but everything I've tried so far didn't seem to work.
Any help or other suggestions is welcome!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Y410P touchpad move/click randomly when lid closed

I had exactly the same problem with my Y510P. I changed the 'PalmTracking' setting to 'Maximum' and lowered the Sensitivity a bit. You can change it a bit if you like. When you close the lid and you look at the touchpad pictogram in the taskbar, you can see if it 'detects' movement when the lid is closed. So find your own 'optimal' setting   Hope this helps

I could really use some help with this. I've searched all over the net and there isn't a real solution to this. Most threads are closed or never answered. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 and everything works fine but when doing things fast or under high cpu load my trackpad locks up for a second and if I try to keep using it it will trail slowly until I stop for a second then go and it works again. Something is temporarily locking it up and it can be very annoying during some things.

It is a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. Using "device driver update" produced no new hardware that matched better than what I have currently. The funny thing I noticed is the device drivers for my model on Dell doesn't match what I have..

None of those 3 under Keyboard/Mouse match what I have. Or do they? I matched the synaptic version and it didn't match anything there. Here is a list of my shipped system specs:

Answer:Vostro 1510 Touchpad/Trackpad Freezes Randomly

Ran the Dell diagnostics and using the symptom tree I ran the 2 tests that fit this issue (I guess it's a real common problem for it to be standard in the system tree) and it didn't detect any errors/issues. All passed. By the way, to clarify what I meant by High CPU Load I was speaking of the cylinder light on the keyboard dash. I think that's actually for the HDD not CPU. So again it seems to happen when the hdd is already under load.

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

Hello Lenovo Community, A few weeks ago, my touchpad on my e430 began left-clicking and right-clicking randomly. That is, it will click rapidly and repeatedly on whatever my cursor is hovering over, even if my fingers are not anywhere near the laptop. This is a huge nuisance, as it's rendered the laptop almost inoperable thanks to this clicking causing windows to open and close, internet ads to be clicked on, and the right click options bar popping up several times a second. In addition, I've noticed that my keyboard has begun to malfunction as well, seemingly in tandem with the touchpad problem. Specifically, many keys don't work--or work only part of the time.  I've ran malware scans and virus scans and found nothing. I wonder if it might be related to moisture in the keyboard/touchpad area (the laptop became slightly wet due to a brief rain shower shortly before this problem began), but I am not sure. Can anyone provide insight on this problem and how I might fix it? I would greatly appreciate it. - LS

Hey Lenovo guys: please respond ro this question. It's a serious issue, and we need help. I replaced the HD with an SSD, tried a new memory card, and tried to adjust the settings on the trackpad. For some reason, I try to disable tapping and it keeps resetting the setting on its own. I think it might be a Lenovo software issue. Please advise.

Just purchased the Inspiron 15 7569, which seems to be having serous problems with the touchpad freezing sporadically.
Freezing in this context means no click feedback, can move pointer, no ability to click on anything and sometimes stuck in click and hold/select mode.
The only solution at this point was to disable the HID driver and turn off double tap/drag.
Looking at the drivers installed and available for this touchpad (ACPI\SYN0609),  It seems to have only Microsoft default drivers enabled and there is no available driver from Dell under this model.
Is there an alternate driver I can use? and/or will Dell be publishing specific touchpad drivers for this device.

Guys I've been using this little Thinkpad x120e for years: I can't find a replacement that does as much as well .
I just did a fresh install of win7 x64 home premium on a new samsung 840 pro ssd. it all works swell.

except today: doing absolutely nothing unusual, running on battery, I left my unit closed for a while, came back, opened, started to work, and the cursor was gone. Not just hard to see, but gone. had to use keys to migrate my way out of everything safely and power down to get it back.
I checked the System logs for a related error but see none. I have errors, but nothing relating to the touchpad.

the thinkpad of course uses the combo joystick and touchpad with buttons for each. the driver I chose to install on purpose however is the generic microsoft 'mouse' driver. I have always used it that way since I bought the system because the Ultranav software/firmware is buggy [long story]. never had this issue before now.

how to troubleshoot? logically this would seem to be a power policy thing, but why the random occurrence? I've been using it every day on battery, and every day plugged in also. first occurrence. no updates to the driver: I don't allow auto updates

Answer:Fresh install: Touchpad pointer lost after sleep. randomly.

The graphics driver is also involved. It could be a conflict with the graphics driver or a problem with the graphics driver.

Are you using the same graphics driver as before?
Have you tried uninstalling the mouse and joystick from Device manager and rebooting? (they will be reinstalled with the generic Windows driver)
The order you install drivers can make a difference sometimes.

Hi all, laptop: 580issue: touchPad issueswindows: 8.1driver: elandesctiption:the touchPad randomly gives issues.the touchPad will work for a minute or a few and then stop working, however not all funcionalities stop.and it is not consistant on which functionalities stop. The functionalities that allways stoop: one touch click, left clickSometimes stop: scroll, right clickand this just constantly happens every few seconds, minutes - not predictable. In addition when the issue occurs it will give me wierd bugs like - will act as if it right clicked at random, even though I did not right click, during this period the curser can randomly pop into a different location on the screan even though I did not instruct it to do so. When the issues occur, I can it back to normal functionality for a few seconds / minutes by: long right click and immidiately after a left click. I have sent it in to get fixed allready - it was fixed in a lenovo lab. They fixed it and it was good for a short period after (days - weeks) and then began occuring again at random. any ideas what I can do? If possible - step by step instructions would really help, since I am not a computer genious. Thanks!

Good evening, Every now and then, after using the laptop for a while, or getting it from sleep mode, the touchpad simply quits working as it should. Clicking by simply tapping the pad stops working, and clicking by really pushing in the trackpad itself will only activate either right or left click. Sometimes it even quits working at all. After rebooting the device the issues will be over, which makes me think it is some sort of a software issue. Also every now and then, while working in my student room, my laptop loses its internet connection. While there are many Wi-Fi signals in my student room-complex, it can't detect any of them. Then, after waiting for some time and rebooting the device once or twice, the connection will get restored, and all the other signals are back as well. Both issues aren't very huge, yet very annoying when working on a paper or so. Especially since I bought the laptop a little longer then two months ago, assuming due to it's price and the ThinkPad?s reputation (being able to stop a bullet and yet still work) this is a huge disappointment Anyone who has a solution for me for either one of these problems? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I have also noticed some wifi problems on the W540. I have the Intel AC7260, and occassionally, it stops working - reporting a driver problem. When this happens, it is not working at all and cannot scan for available wifi networks - exactly like you report. However, if I do a quick uninstall and scan for hardware changes within device manager, normal operation is restored, without having to reboot repeatedly. After a while, it will stop working again - this is not too frequent, however. I assume it is a dirver problem.

I have gone through the process of disabling tapping. Sometime later the cursor will send me some place unexpected because tapping has returned. Usually if I go to Settings, Devices, Mouse & Touchpad, additional mouse options, that stops the tapping. Occasionally I have to go to the Elan tab and Options before it will go away. The "tapping" box is not checked. Driver is up to date. I've tried a bunch of different things - disabling the touchpad, reinstalling the driver. I can't find anything in my Internet searches for this issue.

Answer:Elan touchpad randomly activates tapping after I have disabled tapping

There is usually a touchpad icon in the Taskbar. If you right click it you get options. One of those is "Tap to Click".
Have you tried unchecking that there?

Question: sticking Fn key?

last night all I was starting my computer and I could not use the keyboard to type in my password.  I had to use the vitual one to do this.  I have scanned it both once up and running and in boot up and no virus has been found.  It is acting like the function key is sticking.  I can use the fuction keys, arrows and esc only.  you do not need to hold down the function key to activate them either.  The only time the enter key will work is when you want to get into the bios in the beginning, and then once there will not work at all to select any choices.  Anyone know what the deal is?

Answer:sticking Fn key?

hey karnuthian, really hard to say what is going on here, but maybe you could use a flat-head screwdriver and flip the FN key and clear any dirt that might be at the bottom of it.once that's done, see if it happens again.

I am having a strange problem. If I am using my computer after a recent restart, it is fine. But after it being on for a while, I will come back from idle and use the computer, and it will be stuck using 100% of the CPU. It usually takes a few hours of the computer running for this to happen. Being at 100% when it's idle, I checked the task manager, and can't find anything eating up CPU. I look at the CPU column and the number doesn't add up to 100, so whatever is using the CPU is not showing up. When this happens, the computer is unusable, and it takes like ten minutes to minimize a window. If I restart, that fixes the problem until after the computer has been on for a while and has gone idle. I keep having to restart every few hours to be able to keep using the computer.

I thought maybe this could be caused by a virus or malware, so I did a scan with Norton AV. It didn't find anything. I scanned with Microsoft Malware Remover and said that it found something called Trojan?Win32/Alureon!ing, and that it had partially removed it. It said to run my virus scanner to complete the removal, so I did. Norton still didn't come up with anything. I used SpyBot S&D, Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, and Super AntiSpyware, all coming up with no results. So the problem is probably either gone or didn't exist in the first place. I am also not sure whether my problem and the detection of malware are even related.

I hope this makes sense and someone here c... Read more

Hello. As I'm a dogmatic XP-user, with close ties to this OS, and a problem with the way Win7 is set up and the way you work on that system, I'm in a greater problem here. Beause, as we know, the future hardware is only to be made compatible with the newer OS's, and the ones I'm having is gonna bust some day..What do I do?? This situation is just saddening.I've seen there is a supposed Windows XP mode for Win7, but that's only for the most expensive Win7 versions. Or can I tweak the win7 home to do and look the same? Can I bring the visualization of XP and adjust the way of navigation to that of XP's? I assume you have read Adrynalyne's excellent thread about who will be safe staying with XP.

Answer:How many are sticking with XP?

I have 18 installations of XP that monitor and control machinery, no external communication is possible so they will be staying with XP. No support needed.

Answer:Sticking with XP ?

You are sticking your head in the sand I'm afraid. The malware creators may be evil but stupid they are not. The fact that XP will no longer get updated presents them with a massive opportunity to find new ways to exploit it, and they will. Continue to use XP on the internet, especially for financial transactions, and you will be taking an unacceptable risk. It's OK to use it without internet of course, or to install a virtual machine running Linux and do your browsing through that.

not sure if I posted this question here, but I am trying to figure out how I'd need to approach this "issue".

I have a few wav-files that originally belong together (being one, spoken text without interruptions). Now I have 2 - 3 separate sound files, and I'd like to glue them back together, so that it becomes one again (I didn't split them up, I got them that way ).
It'll be converted to MP3, so I can use them for my phone (gotta love custom "ringtones", instead of the fleet of basic things / songs ).

If anyone has tips, suggestions or anything for this ol' bat, let me know?
It's very much appreciated, and Id be incredibly grateful

Thank you in advance :wave

Answer:Sticking wav end to end?

You can join the wav files with a program like WAV Joiner. The trial can only join 2 files at a time. But those 2 files will be 1 which you then can join to the third file.

http://cfbsoftware.com/wavjoiner/wavjoiner.aspx

If this suggestion isn't suitable, post and I'll provide an alternative.

When I click on the button to open my cd rom drive it sticks. Sometimes I have to click on it 10 or 11 times. This is getting frustrating. I think it may need to be cleaned. Do I buy a disc cleaner or do I take apart? Thanks for any help!

Moved post too hardware so it will receive the proper attention.

If I set a movie to open with WMP (or VLC) using

open with - choose another app - always use this app to open .mp4 files

it sticks while my pc is on, but next day when I click an mp4, Films + TV opens (ditto for mpg, mkv etc). Same happens with images. I used a reg file from this forum to enable Photo Viewer and set that as default, but when I click a jpg it uses a different app.

Is this a bug or a feature ? Could CCleaner be deleting my 'open with' settings ?

Answer:'open with' not sticking

Try the old-fashioned way.................

type control panel into the search box > Enter > top right, click View by and select small > select Default Programs > select Associate a file type or protocol...... >wait for loading > left side, scroll down to mp4, click it > does it say WMP or VLC ?
if not, top right click Change program > find WMP or VLC > click it > click OK.

Question: mouse sticking

Hi
I am running win 8 release pre and I am having a problem with my mouse.
Ever so often, too often, the mouse will not move and it will hang there for about 2 or 3 seconds and then suddenly starts moving again.
I have tried uninstalling the driver and restarting the computer but the problem still remains
Any idea what I can or should do next to resolve this problem?
Thanks

Answer:mouse sticking

Wow, finally I found someone with the same problem. Windows 8 Enterprise Final, Core 2 Duo, 2GB, Microsoft Mouse 2000 Bluetrack. Sticking and jerky cursor. I tried uninstalling the drivers, use generic driver, Windows Vista drivers, everything. I found a July topic on Neowin Forum but not solved.

Answer:Pages Keep Sticking

If you get random popups you have malware on your computer. The programs freezing as you described are also indicative of that.Run Adaware and Spybot from safe mode - update them before you run them.Following that that I suggest you post a ?HijackThis? log for expert assistance with your problem.Read the pinned post in our ?HijackThis? forum, herehttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/ Carefully read and follow all directions explicitly.Following instructions run a log, and post it in following HJT forum, at this linkhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/posthjtlog.htmlDo not as yet attempt to fix anything by yourself using Hijack This as even what may seem to be a small mistake can render your op system inoperable. Some files when in one folder may be fine while in another may be malware. Hi all

With regular monotony lately, I'm finding a tan coloured rectangular "bar" in the upper left quadrant of my monitor. Measures about 7.5 x 1.5 cm (3" x 0.5") Always the same size and colour, and always in the same place on the desktop screen. I've tried to establish which site I went to that leaves this "piece" behind, but I'm not at all sure.

Can anyone suggest what causes just this "piece" to remain behind, why it doesn't get removed with the rest of the screenimages, and more important what can I do about it? Rebooting works, but who wants to reboot so much - not me! ? It's only on the desktop - not on any screens I view.

Running XP home with SP2, an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 card and a 19" Mecer CRT monitor. I update Norton 2009 daily and regularly update AdAware and Spyware doctor; full scans once a week so I'm pretty sure it's not Malware or Viral.

Thanks

Answer:Bar sticking to desktop

Right click on your desktop to open Display Properties, click the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop, then click the Web tab.

Do you see anything in Web Pages (other than "My Current Home Page" which is not normally checked)? If other items are there that you didn't put there, click to highlight the item, then click Delete. OK your way out when done.

Question: Keys sticking

First of all. I want to say, I'm sorry if I am posting on the wrong site for this problem. I looked and looked
and couldn't figure out where else to post this.

I did an incredibly stupid [email protected]@ thing-I spilled some pop on my laptop keyboard and now the left side is really hard to use. The keys are hard to push down and the left click on the mouse pad is also hard to use. When it happened I immediately turned the laptop over and then shut it off and left it turned over all night. It doesn't seem to have affected the computer itself, just really stiff keys. I cleaned the keyboard on the outside with some antibacterial wipes, but have no idea how to fix this other problem!

Answer:Sticking Keys-HELP Plz!

Cleaning Laptop Keyboard seems pretty complete, but I'll move this to the Hardware forum, as it clearly has nothing to do with Windows 7 or any other software.

By "left click on the mouse pad" do you mean the left click button on the laptop, or do you mean tapping the touchpad to click? Or something else?

Question: Keys sticking

I have a T61 that is ~ 2 years old.  I have two keys that are not working perfectly on the computer....I don't know how to describe the problem.  They still work--it is just don't work 100% of the time.  For example, with the backspace key I a might have to press the key multiple times before it starts working correctly. Is this something that can be fixed?  Or is it the type thing that it is smarter to just buy a new laptop since this one is two years old? I also own a T41 that is ~ 5 years old.  Never had a single problem with they keyboard.  (The old Thinkpad keyboards are the best ever--bar none).

Both the DVD drives on my desktop computer stick closed and will not open until they have been tapped for some minutes. Is there any way I can 'lubricate' them without taking the console apart?

Answer:DVD Drives sticking

Rather than Tapping them - the small hole on the front of the drives is an emergency opening system - just straiten a paper-clip, push it firmly into the hole and the drawer will open - this will not do any damage.

i have 2 of these drives. and when ever i try to open them they stick. they try to open but dont. i even try to go into my computer and eject them but they still dont open. after i keep trying to open them they finally open. besides this they work. any one know why it does this, and is there a fix?

Answer:DVD/CD drives sticking

if u have this issue try pushing a pointed object like a pen into the small hole that should be on the front of the drive, this is the fail safe eject, i'd just put in the data cables on the computer end and the motherboard end, I can't think of why it would be happening though

Question: Sticking keys

Many of the keys on my Logitech keyboard bind (get stuck) when pushed and don't fully depress. I'd like to know if there's a solution for this (apart from replacing the keyboard). I tried posting on Logitech's forum but so far no reply. From what I've read elsewhere, petroleum-based lubricants like WD40 are to be avoided. Has anyone had and solved this problem?

Question: T500 key sticking

I have a T500 that is about 5 months out of warranty now and the L key has started freaking out on me. I have removed and blown out the keyboard with compressed air. There is no visible debris that I can see so its something wrong with the key switch. It will start spamming L all over the place on occasion. I have really not used the computer that much so I am a little dissapointed. I was going to call to see if there was something Lenovo could do but I see I can be billed for the call if the computer is out of warranty. Is this something I can call about? Where is a good place to get a replacement keyboard? ThanksJustin

First run the following programs to see what might be there that should be.

Ad-Ware Checks and removes spyware
http://www.spychecker.com/download.html

SWAT a free trojan program and free updates for life.
http://lockdowncorp.com/bots/downloadswatit.html
PC Cillion is an online free virus checker
http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Then go to the following site and follow the instructions for cleaning the hard drive.

Also on the same web page are instructions for removing programs that are running in the back ground that are not needed.

They are listed under msconfig. Also on that same web page is a link to a site that will tell you almost all of the programs that you will find in msconfig and what they are and if they are needed.
