Adapter for X1 Carbon (Type 3444-CUU) M.2 SSD

Question: Adapter for X1 Carbon (Type 3444-CUU) M.2 SSD

I'm having trouble finding an adapter for my X1 Carbon M.2 SSD. The laptop is fried, but I'm hoping to get some of the files out of the SSD. The model number is Intel SSDSCMMW240A3L and I've found that it's a "B Key" 6 pin connector, but it seems like around the pins is different (less space alloted between the 6 and the next 20 pins). So standard M.2 adapters won't work Is anyone aware of any type of external adapters that I can plug this unit into? They can be Sata, USB, PCIE, doesn't matter. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: x1 Carbon 3444 b8u

Hello! I need help. I have a thinkpad x1 carbon 3444 b8u. It has a broken screen and I need to purchase a replacement. What screens are compatible with my laptop? I am having a hard time finding the information elsewhere and I am afraid I will get one that do not fit or work.

Answer:x1 Carbon 3444 b8u

What's broken?  Just the panel?

The panel FRU is 04x1756.  If you are looking for a new screen from Lenovo, in U.S., replacement parts can be ordered from IBM online here:

My X1 Carbon doesn't seem to want to power on after I turned it off yesterday. When the AC adapter is plugged in, the power button lights up for a split second, and the light right next to the AC plug stays lit as long as it's plugged in. No other lights seem to turn on. I've tried using the battery reset button on the reverse side (held it for up to 30 secs), opening it up and disconnecting and reconnecting both the main battery and the CMOS battery, but no change. Any other ideas? Or is it likely to be a fried motherboard?

Hi all, I happen to have a spare power adapter from my former W530. Can I use it with my X1 Carbon 20A7? Connector is the same but of course the W530 one is much more powerful, so I guess the question is: is the X1 protected against more Amperes than expected? Thanks and regards

Answer:X1 Carbon 3444- WWAN Option

http://support.lenovo.com/en_AU/Enter the entire model number into the QUICK PATH, this will say whether you machine is WWAN upgradeable or not. If it is, then you have the 2 WWAN antenna, and all you need is to do is to get the correct WWAN card. http://support.lenovo.com/en_AU/product-and-parts/detail.page?&DocID=PD025329This parts list tells you the part number of the required WWAN card, you can get the part from IBM parts. Remember the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and Carbon Touch uses a non standard mPCIe WWAN card. If your machine is not WWAN upgradeable, then it means you are missing the WWAN antennas. You can get them and install it yourself, but requires disassembling the LCD screen too, which may cause damage to the machine and is not recommended (warranty doesn't cover these self services and resulting damages). If you are adamant that you are skilled enough to do the WWAN card upgrade, you can study the HMM, which shows you everything that needs to be done for the upgrade. http://support.lenovo.com/en_AU/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM015748

I can't seem to find this information anywhere.  What revision of the DisplayPort standard does the 1st Gen X1 Carbon (3444-CUU specifically) have for it's mini-displayport output?  I'm trying a MST DisplayPort hub to drive two external displays and both displays are showing the same content.  I suspect that the 1st Gen X1 Carbons are not up to DisplayPort version 1.2...is this correct? Thanks in advance!

Hi all,
Need help please.
I bought my X1 Carbon 3444 June last year. It seems like I do have a WWAN adapter as well as the antenna. Please see attached
I hope I am reading it correctly.
I have also downloaded the Ericson Driver.
I need to know what else i need to do to make this work. Other than obviously inserting a SIM card.

Answer:X1 Carbon 3444 1st Gen WWAN setup

Good day.

Using your image as a guide and looking at the Gen1 Carbon's FRU BOM:
http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x1_carbon_gen1_fru_bom_20141210.pdf
I'm not seeing any indication of a WWAN card in your machine.

From the file:
04W3769 = Intel SFF 2x2 11abgn WLAN Card
and
04Y1463 = Antenna Kit w/WLAN w/o WWAN WNC04Y1464 = Antenna Kit w/WLAN w/o WWAN Yageo

Further searching on 04W3769 leads me to believe this is an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2).

Is there another item on the list that you believe denotes a WWAN card?

Regards.

Hello all, my X1 Carbon is acting up. Trackpoint and Trackpad are not working together after a week of use. However after reading some threads the only way I could get the Trackpoint to work was to disable the Trackpad via "Enter" when the computer boots up (Bios Menu). I've tried everything now, uninstalling drivers and installing new ones, rebooting laptop from factory. The only way for the laptop to have any control over the mouse cursor is through the Trackpoint by disabling the Trackpad which is annoying to just know that the pad doesn't work. Any solution? Help!

Answer:X1 Carbon Model 3444-2DU Trackpad and Trackpoint

if this is the case, then you should call up Lenovo and ask for repair or replacement. The Trackpad buttons must be acting up or there is a shortcircuit somewhere in the trackpad circuitry.

I purchased a MiniDP to HDMI cable that is capable of 4k resolution. I hooked it up to my X1 (Gen1, model 3444-G7U) laptop into my LG TV (which also supports 4k). I can't get the TV to go above 1080p! Again, the TV is brand new and 4k capable, the MiniDP to HDMI cable is 4k capable, and it's connected from my X1 laptop's MiniDP port.

Hey everyone, I have a X1 carbon 1st gen (3444) running windows 7. I had to get the keyboard replaced as not all the keys were working. I was able to get a brand new one without issue however after installing it, it is still having the same issues as my old one. The numbers 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,0 will not work however all other functions of the keyboard do. I have tried updating all drivers and getting all of the windows updates and this has still not solved the issue.  Does anyone know what might be causing this and a way to fix the problem? Thanks,

Answer:X1 Carbon 1st Gen (3444) numbers 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,0 will not work on keyboard.

Option one:Attach an external keyboard, and turn off NumLock, and then detach. Option Two:-  Or open regedit (Start /Run regedit.exe) and browse to:HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard\ - Right click on Keyboard and select export, name the file Keboard and save it where you can later find it.  Note:  This creates a backup of the settings under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard, that can later be restored by double clicking the keybard.reg file if needed. -  Change the InitialKeyboardIndicators value from 2 to 0Note:  The value may be set to 2147483648, but still change it to 0 and test-  Restart your system This update is fairly new, and may apply to your systemHotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPadhttp://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds029026 Good Luck

I was recently given a Lenovo X1 Carbon and it has Windows 10 version 1511 (OS Build 10586.104). The USB port on the right side, which I believe is the 3.0 port doesn't function. When I connect a flash drive to this port, the light on flash drive comes on for couple of seconds and turns of. I am not sure if this is a hardware or a software issue. Here is the screenshot of USB controllers in Device manager. I read previous threads with similar issues, but did not find a solution. (I tried to unisntall device drivers, restart and re-install the drivers. It did not help)

The USB port on the right is on a separate audio card. I have seen them fail. I would first examine the port and look for bent pins

I have recently received my X1 carbon 3444 it was with windows 8 pro, although our IT team installed windows 7 on it to comply with internal policy, I want to restore to windows 8 as it came although I am struggling to find how to go back to company installed windows 8 as there is no recovery media came with the laptop moreover I didn?t even found windows 8 key with it, furthermore I also want to know my laptop is touch screen or not

Answer:Thinkpad X1 3444 carbon factory restore windows 8

1. Lenovo's recovery media has to be created from the computer when it was first shipped to you. There was a recovery partition. Otherwise, you have to order the recovery media from Lenovo service. 2. Windows 8 key is in the BIOS, once you install the right OS, it will automatically pick it up from the BIOS. You don't need manual activation. 3. The touchscreen model, has gorilla glass over the screen.

Hi, After installing Windows 10, I began to have issues with the left click button on the touchpad.  The left click suddenly stops functioning, and it does not work again until I reboot the computer.  It is not a hardware issue as I have tested this by changing the functionality between the left and right buttons, at which point the left button works again.  My sense is there is a bug in the touchpad's driver software under the new operating system.  I have tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers, I have scanned to ensure the computer does not have a virus, and I have reinstalled the operating system.  None of this solves the issue.  The left mouse click on the touchpad will still suddenly stop working at some period of time after using the computer (generally after leaving the computer idle and later resuming use).   Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions are welcome.  Is it a bug in the driver software for the touchpad that needs to be fixed for Windows 10?   Thanks you!

I've just ordered a new X1 but I'd like to install Linux on it but keep the W7 install as well. I was going to try to clone W7 to an external drive and boot from that (apparently it is possible with limitations) but I've read that the WWAN card is a standard M.2 card. I've checked out the Sierra company that supply the wireless cards but I'm still waiting to hear if it is a B or M type connector. Looking at the image and checking other technical docs it look like a B type connector. I need to know if the WWAN card socket will accept only B type cards or M or even B/M cards. Thanks in Advance.

You can find keyboard assembly FRU P/Ns in this parts listing:

The keyboard and bezel look like they are all one assembly.

Hi, I have a 2nd gen X1 Carbon (Type 20A7) that I bought about 3 years ago. I bought it configured with a 256GB SSD, but I'm quickly running out of space and would like to upgrade the drive. I have a few questions about this: I believe this generation of the X1 Carbon came with a max SSD size of 256GB, but does the system/motherboard, etc. support larger sizes? Is there a limit? I'm aiming for either 512 GB, or possibly 1 TB.Will the size of a new drive I choose impact speed/performance in any way?Lenovo doesn't seem to sell a 512 GB drive or larger drive for this system. Can I use a non-Lenovo one (i.e. bought from Newegg, Amazon, etc.)? I searched around on the Lenovo forums and it sounds like it's a stanard M.2 drive in the 2nd gen X1 Carbon, so should I be fine as long as I get an M.2 drive?M.2 drives have a few different connector types: B, M, and B+M. Does anyone know which connector type I need to get for the 2nd gen X1 Carbon?I'm planning on cloning my current drive onto the new larger one. What kind of adaptors, etc. would I need to do this? Also, I've never cloned a drive before so please excuse me if this is a dumb question, but are there any issues cloning a smaller drive to a larger drive (i.e. the system only recognizing 256GB on the new larger drive)?Any other things I should keep in mind? Thanks in advance!

Answer:X1 Carbon Gen 2 (Type 20A7) SSD Upgrade

Lenovo lists 512GB drives as available, but there is no motherboard limit.  On that model, you need one that is described as SATA-3 (not NVMe) and size 2280.  Drives have B + M Key.  Not Lenovo drives should work, but I always suggest checking the seller's return policy in case of problems.

Dear Friends,I have a persistant issue that neither local lenovo techniciens or myself could resolve. As the entire computer was changed and the problem is still going on, this is probably a serie issue. Although, I couldn't find anybody having the same issue on forums. Description of the problem:The bluetooth is pairing and connecting well. But when playing music through bluetooth speakers, whatever is the receiver (UE Boom, Logitech BT Received, Bose...), I experience persistant lagging. Sometimes, it can work well for 10-15 minutes, but usually it lags very frequently. Strange thing is that with any other transmitting devices (T400s, smartphones, low cost computers...) I've never got this problem. A bit frustrating considering the price of a Carbon X1. I also noticed the exact same problem when being in different places. Attemps to solve to problem:I reinstalled Windows 7 and Windows 10 many times, as well as several versions of bluetooth and audio drivers (whether featured by lenovo and intel). Got no improvement. Lenovo service changed the bluetooth chip. No results. Then they changed the mothercard. No results. They even send me a entire new computer. No changes. I must confess I'm out of ideas. Would be the community and/or the support team kind enough to help me? Thank you.

Hi there Last week, my laptop (Windows 10 x64) crashed into a bluescreen ("SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED"). I googled the error and tried several fixes. The bluescreen does not occur anymore but the computer always freezes after several minutes and gets stuck in a boot loop. The strange thing is that when I unplug the battery, the laptop runs without any problems, but only with the one link (and not with the regular charging cable). Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Thanks in advance!Best, groovi

X1 Hangs on restart after a software update:  Windows 10, Norton, Lenovo, etc. After several forced power-offs (holding the power button) the X1 again reboots, with sometimes the update intact or as todays failure, Norton was being updated and my Norton is no longer installed.  This is the 2nd time this has happened to the Norton install.  Usually the Windows Update is in place after I finially get the X1 to boot normally to my Windows 10 install. I have removed the docking attachment before the restart to see if this helps, but it does not seem to help.  I have both attahced the HDD or removed it, but that too does not seem to prevent the problem. Is this an SSD bug? X1:  SSD 256 GBDocking Attachment1 TB HDD USB 3.0 with backup copiesMS Windows 10 (current version, (its updates have caused restart hangs also))Image size:   Used Space 60.2 GBFree Space:  36.7 GBCapacity:  97.0 GB Regards, DOGGONE

Hi, I bought an X1 Carbon 20FB a few days ago. Since I want to use it for work, I need to change the machine type from 20FB to 20FC. Does anybody know a way to change machine type? I tried already the bios update utility but it only allows to change the machine serial number, not the machine type. Thank you!

Answer:X1 Carbon change Machine Type 20FB 20FC

Hello and welcome to the CommunityLet me ask you - why do you need this operation? Machine-Type means "laptop platform". I hope you haven't replaced the systemboard in new machine.

I attempted to update the BIOS on my X1 Carbon type 20A7 using the bootable CD option. The previous bios was 1.09 and I tried to update to 1.26 (file gruj23us.iso).Booting from a USB gave me the error: ASSERT c:\edk2\MdePkg\Library\BaseLib\String.c(166): String != ((void *) 0) and then the update froze. The machine will no longer boot from the hard drive. However, it will still boot from USB.  Is there any way to get a working BIOS back on this machine? Has anyone else seen this error when doing a BIOS update?

Hi, During my visit to US in January and February 2014 I purchased the X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (Type 20A7). I got back to south Brazil where I live, it worked fine until October 2014. Suddenly the X1 Carbon didn't boot anymore and the backlight keyboard keep flickering. I realized it was a known issue and several customers had the motherboard replaced or even the equipment replaced.  I planned to reach the US customer service in a future visit to the US but I could not travel to the US from that time, so I tryed to reach the Lenovo customer service in Brazil and check with them to pay for the service and parts replacement so I could have my X1 Carbon working again. I called and told the problem, they said it was possible to fix and they would send me a budget proposal in 4 work days. The customer service took about two weeks to get back to me and surprisingly the budget I received was of U$ 3,650.00 which is the cost of a new X1 Carbon in Brazil ( I paid U$ 2,180.00 in the US for the top version). I am very upset with Lenovo, I lost all the confidence I had to the brand. My only hope is that a senior executive of US Lenovo headquarter would take this matter and help me get my machine fixed or replaced, even for a reasonable value as I could not use it since October 2014.I really do not have much hope that this will help, I am sure it would be different if I have had the opoortunity to get back to the US just after the problem arose but it is so sad, I was ve... I've had the X1 Carbon ThinkPad for around 9-10 months, and after about 4 or 5 months I began experiencing issues regarding the USB ports. I use this laptop for gaming as well as school work. The issues began very intermittently, with both USB ports failing (I use a microphone/headset, and a mouse), by seemingly turning off for 1-2 seconds, followed by them turning back on. 90% of the time the USB ports turned back on, but lately there are times where they do not, and I need to restart my computer to be able to use them again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Drivers for my mouse and headset, as well as the USB drivers under Device Manager. Additionally, I adjusted my power settings to disable USB selective suspend settings, but that did not fix the issue either. By this point, the USB ports will both fail essentially as soon as I begin playing a video game, and at times when I have several tabs open using Google Chrome. Any advice on how to fix this issue?

Hello people, This is my first Lenovo PC (have always been a Mac user ever since i learned how to handle PCs) and I am trying to get used to windows UI. The user experience is improving day by day. If there is something that I simply can't stand so far, it is the tapping (instead of left or right clicks in trackpad) in my touchpad. It is pretty jumpy from being sensitive to no response and back again. I have tried uninstalling Synaptics drivers, getting the generic one from windows online but nothing seems to help. Any ideas? And please guide me to page where i can find useful tips/tricks on other customizations.

So this is my second X1 Carbon and I had no problems whatsoever with the first one. With this one the problems started after I upgraded to Windows 10: more and more frequent BSODs, sometimes 10/day. I upgraded all the drivers, ran sfc /scannow, used also the DISM resotre health command, no issues found and it still gives me every now and then the blue screen.  What I also noticed is that when it's not plugged in, so relying only on battery, video and sound playback is very choppy and performance slows down. Again, I found no fault with the video drivers and they're the latest version. What am I to do with this one?

The Gen3 Carbon does not support NVMe. That was introduced in the Gen4.
The AHCI drive may/should work, but I'm not 100% positive. I seem to recall some discussion in the community about specific PCIe AHCI models having difficulty. If I find the discussion, I'll edit this post.

I have been encountering this issue for sometime , specially when i travel. When I shutdown by laptop and try to power ON again without the AC cord, it will not power ON. Then I have to connect it to the AC outlet, when the power button lights up with Green. If I disconnect the Power cord after that, the laptop will still power ON with the battery. The battery is fully charged.  This problem is intermittent, but is happenning more often now, hence I like to know if this issue can be resolved just by resetting the laptop or is this a hardware/configuration issue. I have Windows 10 running on the system.

Both of my USB ports are not working after upgrading to Windows 10. I tried them with thumb drive and USB mouse, both can be found as connected device, but indicates missing driver. Both devices can work properly on other machines. Bios and all the drivers are all updated to the latest version. Lenovo Download page has USB3.0 driver for windows 7 and 8.1 only, nothing for Windows 10.  I called technical support, but it was not helpful at all. They just checked update using Lenovo Companion and went to the Download page to look for driver, which I have done myself before calling them. And the only suggestion I got is to downgrade to Windows 8. It is clearly that Lenovo should release USB3.0 driver for Windows 10. I asked the technical support person if there is anyway to report this issue to Lenovo to releasea new driver. I was surprised that he seems to have no access to provide feedback to Lenovo, and I was told filled up the "website satisfaction survey" to report this myself.  Since this is a 3rd Gen machine bought just 3 month ago, and I see this machine is now sale with Windows 10 installed, I don't think it should be unsupportive to Windows 10. Please let me know if there is a better place to report this or get help with this issue.

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter.  PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061.  It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330.  Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative.  It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance".  So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts.  If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Answer:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

So the X1 Carbon is 3 lbs, but they are selling it with a 90W Adapter, which from what I can find weighs in at ~0.79 lbs.  Why does an Ultrabook, which by design has a lower power CPU, need a higher watt adapter than an X230/T430/T430s?!  The 65W adapter that those can use is ~0.57 lbs and they are physically smaller too. I just don't get a design oversight like this laptop.  Why change the power adapter connector but make the adapter itself big, heavy and not unlike most ThinkPad adapters besides the new connector.  The ASUS Ultrabook adapter is small and light so why can't the X1's?

Answer:X1 Carbon ships with a 90W AC Adapter?!

Hi there,

the unique 90w adapter for the X1 Carbon probably has something to do with the new Rapid Charge Battery that it comes with. The 90w adapter allows it to charge up to 80% in about 30 minutes so I'm postulating that a 65w adapter will not enable this feature, or may not even be able to adequately power the system to it's full capabilities. This would need to be fully verified, but from what I've read so far, seems logical.

Best regards,

Ed

*Edit* okay, so it does look like the X1 Carbon will support a 65w adapter but will charge slower. I don't think older 65w adapter will work though because the plug is square shaped.

I don't have a Carbon, but I just checked three different IBM/Lenovo power adapters: 72W - T43 era series, 90W - T60p era series and 65W - Yoga13, and all of them are labeled Input: 100-240V 50-60Hz. So, should be ok. You'll just need the appropriate adapter "prongs".

I bought a X1 Carbon 4th generation latpop here in New Zealand and it did not come with any sort of ethernet adapter cable. The documentation that came with this laptop is virtually non-existent and the Lenovo support site is utterly useless. When I search for accessories for my laptop by serial number it doesn't even give me an option for an ethernet cable / adapter. Anyways /end rant.... I see there are two different ethernet adapters for an X1 Carbon, but I'm not sure which one to buy and whether both will work with my X1 Carbon 4th Gen? I see two options: 4X90K06975 - ThinkPad OneLink+ To RJ45 Adapter4X90F84315 - ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Cable Both are listed on http://www3.lenovo.com/nz/en/accessories-and-monitors/cables-and-adapters/adapters/c/adapters and both pages say full compatibilty with Carbon X1 I have a sneaking suspicion that is FALSE and I can only use the Onelink+ version, which is the more expensive of the two. Can anyone advise if I can use only one, or both, and if both, is there any benefit to using one adapter versus the other? Honestly, I like the laptop but the customer experience with Lenovo is dreadful.  No after hours support, no support on the weekends and only support during Australian hours....they really don't seem to care about their New Zealand customers AT ALL

Answer:X1 Carbon 4th Gen - which ethernet adapter?

Hello and welcome,

The connection has changed based on the generation of the X1.  Please confirm that the documents linked below apply to your generation.

Based on the (English) User Guide - ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Type 20FB, 20FC), X1 Yoga

"You can connect your computer to a local network or a broadband connection through the OneLink+ Ethernet Adapter or a supported ThinkPad OneLink+ Dock."

And PSREF: http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20X1%20Carbon%20(4th%20Gen)/ThinkPad_X1_Ca...

"Adapter (optional) OneLink+ to RJ45: ThinkPad OneLink+ to RJ45 adapter"

I'd say it's OneLink+ to RJ45.  Another option might be an inexpensive 3rd-party USB 3.0 -> GigE adapter.

Thus, I downloaded the approprate Intel USB 3.0 driver from the Lenovo support web page: "http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-a?nd-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1... But it is not possible to install this driver: The error message occurs: "This computer doesn not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software". I can provide you with the log file on request. How can I solve this issue? Thanks in advance, and kind regards.J. P. S.

Hi,  I'm looking for a teardown guide for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon SecondGen, but i can't really find anything good. I've read the PDF from Lenovo, but I'd like to know how hard it is to change the keyboard bezel. The reason for the part change is switching from US keyboard to norwegian keyboard.  I know it is a FRU, but it should be possible to do it on my own. Anyone with experience? Here's the manual from Lenovo: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x1carbon_2_hmm_en_sp40a26110_01.pdf N

Hi Lenovo, My X1 have Winsows 10 (x64) with all latest drivers and BIOS update and with Onelink dock helper app in system tray ver:1.10.16. My issue is, that whenever i attach an USB device (even on the laptop itself) the dock disconnets and reconnects. Meaning, the network  flaps and audio too. The external display however remains turned on and does not glitch. I have attached a PC/SC smartcard reader on the dock thru USB and happens the same thing when the smartcard is removed from the reader and reinserted.Attached is the picture of the system notification that pops up. In windows logs there are no alerts too. Regards Aljosa

All, We are having issues with an X1 Carbon USB to Ethernet Adapter.  We have logged multiple support calls with Lenovo, and all they do is send out new adapters. I now have 3 adapters..!! The issue are having is that we connect the USB to ethernet adapter to the machine, and everythings works smoothly for 3-5 minutes.  It then drops the network connection and stops working. We have updated to the latest drivers for Windows 8, changed power management settings, tested on a Windows 7 Machine, tested on 2 different networks, and different cables and we all get the same issues. Lenovo is hopeless in supporting this, so i am looking for other ideas from the community no how we could fix this.  We have another called logged, but guess what, they are sending me another adapter..  Ill have enough spare parts for life at this rate.  Any thing you guys suggest that we can try, or is anyone else expericencing the same issue? If their is any Lenovo Representitives on here, i would love a call from you to help us out.  We are a large business with over 150 laptops from lenovo, and right now, im ready to stop buying lenovo aftert all the issues we have with support on this case. ThanksScott LancasterIT Manager

Hi, try disabling all USB ports power saver (4 of them) in device manager. In Windows, click on Start >Control Panel (or Start >Settings >Control Panel).Double-click on System, then open the Hardware tab.Click Device Manager.Click the + at Universal Serial Bus Controllers.Right-click USB Root Hub and select Properties.Open the Power Management tab.Clear the checkmark from Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.Click OK.Repeat this procedure for the USB 2.0 Hub.

There is a small black plastic part that covers the pins on the X1 carbon's AC adapter port. I noticed this plastic piece was no longer in the computer, but rather stuck inside the AC adapter plug. I pulled it out and put it back in the computer.  I am concerned because this problem happened before and shortly thereafter, my computer would no longer start up. I sent it in for repairs and it turned out the motherboard was fried due to an undisclosed hardware issue that the Lenovo personnel were familiar with. At first I was told I would have to pay $1000 to replace my motherboard, but ultimately Lenovo replaced it for free. I was without my computer for a week.  I'm not sure the plastic piece coming out of the adapter port is related to the motherboard getting fried, but now I am worried about plugging my computer in. Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Thanks

Hi,

I have an X1 Carbon. I recently had trouble plugging the AC adapter into the laptop. On closer inspection, I noticed that a piece of the AC Adapter port from the computer was loose and lodged in the AC adapter plug. I have included a picture. Now every time I plug in my computer I have to use tweezers to remove the piece from the ac adapter and put it back in the computer. Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,
Daniel

So I have an X1 Carbon and have attached the Lenovo USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter.  After booting to my WinPE environment, I am unable to connect to our network as the driver for the adapter is not available.  I have tried the drivers for Win 7 and Win 8 from the Lenovo site but they do not work.  I have also tried drivers from ASIX with no luck.  Is there a Vista driver that I can load and inject into our WinPE environment for the Lenovo USB 2.0 Adapter?  If so please point me to the correct URL.

The one end of my USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter for new X1 Carbon has broken, I need to buy a new one. Do I have to use a Lenovo? Or can I buy a generic one? Where is the best place to buy?   Best Buy?   I really can't wait to buy online, any suggestions for stores t buy it at? Thanks

Answer:USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter for new X1 Carbon - can I use a generic ?

A generic adapter should work just fine although you may need to install drivers for it.

Incidentally the new 2nd gen X1 Carbon uses a proprietary connector, not USB. You can buy a replacement for it from Lenovo or less expensively by googling on the FRU number and buying from an independent seller. The advantage of using the proprietary adapter rather than a generic USB adapter is that it saves the USB ports for other uses.

Hi guys, We have a brand new X1 Carbon where I work, and we bought the Ethernet adapter USB 2.0 to use cable connection. We use Win7 x64.The thing is, we cannot get it to work. I've tried the following: - downloaded drivers software for the adapter via lenovo.com / uninstalled drivers and tried again- updated BIOS- used the troubleshooting for network connections The adapter is just not visible -ANYWHERE- on the computer. Not under Device Manager or under network connections.. only wifi as far as the eye can see. Any idea what I'm missing here? Could it be adapter itself is faulty? It's brand new, right out of the box from Lenovo. Cheers, Daniel

I bought a Lenovo travel power adaptor with slim tip for my X260, which plugs straight into the mains ie there is only one cable from the adaptor to the laptop and means I don't have the power brick on the floor/desk. Does anyone know if Lenovo has/will produce one of these for the Carbon X1 5th gen ie with a USB-C tip? (I need one for the UK)

Hi, I received my X1 Carbon (20A8S07T00) last week and with 45W AC Adapter included in the package.I understand that the 45W AC Adapter does not support Rapid Charge. So should I now purchase a 65W or 90W AC Adapter to get full Rapid Charge functionality? Will the 90W AC Adapter charge even faster than the 65W AC Adapter? Thanks
