HP Spectre X360 loose trackpad and hinge issue?

Question: HP Spectre X360 loose trackpad and hinge issue?

So I got a brand new13 inch HP Spectre X360 on August 24. I really wanted this laptop over the Mac because I felt it was lighter than a Pro, more powerful than an Air, had a great display, plus was more vessatile than the two due to its rotation capability. To my disappointment, I quickly found out the trackpad seemed loose (you could feel a slight rattle by lightly pressing down the middle). 15 days later, I exchanged it at Best Buy only to find, low and behold, my new one having the same exact issue with the trackpad. Not only that, but I feel that even the screen hinge is ever so slightly loose. Not that it moves in laptop, tent, or presentation mode -- but when I type quick I feel the screen shake just a tiny bit. Moreover, when in tablet mode, the two halves of the computer (the screen and back of the keyboard underneath it) don't stick together. They pry apart about an inch. I called HP and they said it could be my particular local Best Buy bought a bad bunch or something? I did see other threads on here with people complaining about the trackpad, and some have suggested that there are some 'malfunctioned' unitss and that if one were to keep exchanging, they would eventually get a good one. I also have slight cackling of speakers without headphones when playing music. So should I exchange for a second time? Would Best Buy be upset -- do they have a limit on this sort of thing? And if it helps, I have the three year warranty/Geek Squad tech support package. Thanks a lot.

Hi, I bought my HP Spectre x360 on February 1st, 2016. In the past few weeks I have noticed that both hinges have become loose and pull away from the lower portion of the computer. I am worried it will break completely in the next few months. I tried going to the support page on the HP website but contantly get a 404 error when I select my computer model. This was a large purchase for me and I am not happy that this premium product is having hardware issues in less than a year.

The left hand hinge on my wife's HP Spectre X360 is loose. It looks like the right hand hinge is taking most of the weight and the screen leans slightly as a result of this. It has been like this for a number of months, but is starting to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn't report it previously and the warranty ran out just over 2 weeks ago. My concern is that not only is the left hand hinge getting looser, the additonal weight on the right hand hinge will lead excessive wear and the risk that this hinge will fail as well. is there any way HP will repair the faulty hinge, as it appears to be a known issue.

Hi,So recently i started noticing that my hinge on my spectre was loose. Whilst i decided to try look past the issue and use the laptop normally, over the past couple of days the issue has magnified and i have noticed that it is at the point that when my laptop is closed. The screen doesn't align with the base.I haven't dropped it, nor have i excessively open and closed the lid or even for that matter used the 360 degrees tablet function.I am still well within my warranty and was interested in seeing as to what my options are, given the amount i spent on the laptop.Regards,Dylan

After I have been using spectre x360 for a couple weeks, I noticed that the hinge is quite loose particularly at 90 to 180 degrees. And I can wobble it at some point without using any force. Moreover, when I hold the base while the screen is more than 90 degrees and shake the notebook a little bit, the screen will bend far to the back. It looks like the hinge is too loose and can not hold the weight of the screen. Is there any way to tighten it?Thanks.

Hi,  I have had my spextre for just over a year now. About 6 months or so ago I started to notice the screen wobble a little more, I played it off as nothing. Not so long ago I notice the left hinge is loose, and that is the source of the wobble on the screen. It seems as though the left hinge can be pushed in towards the laptop a couple of mm signlalling to me it is not properly secured. Is there a fix for this? TIA!

I purchased a Spectre x360 almost two years ago (Sept. 2015) and the laptop worked fine. After about two months, I noticed the hinges did not line up as cleanly but the laptop still opened, closed and folded back without issue. I recently opened my laptop and noticed that the right hinge is shaky and that the screen wobbles a lot because of it. This seems to be a purely physical issue as I "pop" the hinge back into place and it secures. While the screen is still shaky, I am less worried about it this way. I have never dropped my laptop, haven't travelled with it and it sits flat on my desk 99% of the time. How should I proceed? Thanks for your help in advance.

Just got the 13 inch HP Spectre x360. Latest model with the pen (2017). What a beautiful machine. Love this thing. BUT, the trackpad is completely horrendous. Has a rattle when you even touch it lightly. Annoying. Is this a common problem? I don't want to keep exchanging this laptop if i'll just get another one with this issue. Is anyone else having this issue with the 2017 model. Is it an easy fix? I dont want to return this thing, but, I just might. I come from an Apple Macbook Air. That was the best trackpad I've ever used. This trackpad isn't even close to that. Everything else about this laptop is awesome. Any comments would be helpful in making a decision here.

Hi, I have bought my HP Spectre x360 Convertible for a week and I have an issue with the screen hinge. When I open or close the screen, one of the hinge makes a low noise like it is cracking. After I checked on it, I realised that the hinge are slightly uneven, which makes it touch the metal body. Not sure if this will makes an issue later on, but it already makes a scratch on the metal body when I open or close the lid. The sounds it makes is unpleasant to hear as well.Is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks  Regards,Syed

Hi there, I am having an issue with my touch pad on the spectre x360 where if I try to make slight movements (i.e. a very small swipe or movement of the cursor) the cursor automatically snaps back to the position it was in before I touched the pad.  This makes precision extremely difficult because I have to make a larger swipe and then bring the cursor back around to what I want to click on in order for it to not snap back.   I have updated all the drivers for the system and I have tried cycling on and off most of the Synaptics settings to no avail.   I performed a screen capture so you can see the snapping I am talking about (it is a little hard to see because the screen capture is low fps).  http://screencast.com/t/mBEJCmmWge6 Does anyone have any suggestions for this?  It is extremely annoying and would greatly appreciate any help!

Thank you for the screen shot and I do see what you are talking about. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot the mouse and Touchpad sensitivities. I would restore the defaults on the TouchPad.Hope this fixes your issue with the mouse.Thanks.

Product: HP Spectre x360Product #: L0Q59UA#ABL Hi, I'm having a problem with the touchpad's sensitivity and responsiveness. My father bought me this laptop a week or two ago and it's been great. By far the best laptop I've had thus far, but now it is having a major issue with the touchpad. I've scoured and googled this problem and these forums and found similar things but all the solutions offered were ineffective and I'm also having some problems I didn't see reported about. The touchpad was fine at first, and whenever I restart the laptop, it's fine and works as intended. However, a few minutes into use, if that, it starts to act up. By this, I mean the following: The cursor does not go where I intend itIt's laggyLeft click results in that omni-directional scrolling icon and trying to move the mouse means scrolling/moving the page.Right click moves off to the side and is generally weird and cannot click accurately.I can no longer soft tap to click/select something. The mouse moves on its own. As I was typing this, it tried to select/move/edit stuff. It's very erratic and makes typing or clicking or selecting very difficult. The page scrolls down on its own.I'm starting to think my laptop is haunted. There's more I can't think of right now, so I might edit the original post/comment with more info or make a subsequent post in this thread. I've tried to clean the touchpad with a lightly wetted towel (to get rid of any oil finger stains or whatever), and follow... Greetings, I just bought the HP spectre x360 with the i7 processor, and I've tried over 100 times to register a right click on the trackpad and it has failed to do every single time. I have read several articles complaning about the width being the problem to the right click, but mine has failed to register. period. I went into the control panel to try to disable it then enable once again in hopes to it working, but nothing has changed. I have only been able to register a "right click" by holding down on the touchscreen which is fairly inconvienent. I would like to see this problem fixed because I do enjoy everything else about this laptop, but that is a major flaw for me. Thank you.

I recently purchased the new 15 inch x360 that is being sold by Bestbuy, model # 15-BL012DX.  The store did not have a display model to get some hands-on time with and I have not used other HP devices but I have noticed that the tension in the space bar is different from the rest of the keys on the keyboard. I am wondering if anyone knows if this is normal for HP  devices or if this is a defect in my computer and it will need to be returned/exchanged.   While it is not unpleasant when typing I am afraid that if this is not normal that the space bar will be more likely to break after limited use.   I look forward to hearing back from anyone regarding this issue.  Thank you.

Does anybody know when HP is going to sort out the trackpad issues on the Spectre x360??? I have had two different Spectre x360 machines and both have been rife with trackpad problems, one went away for "repairs" and came back the same. Problems inclue 3 finger swipe up/down to show/close open windows not working, finger side swipes not working to switch between windows, tap to click unresposive and sometimes even mouse click opens notification center rather than what you click on!!! The trackpad on this "premium model" functions worse than a basic trackpad on a netbook. And beforesomeone from  HP comments to turn off and on again, no that doesn't work, settings have been checked and all the gestures are set on, and yes all drivers are up to date. So seriously HP, when are you going to sort it out???

I am buying the HP Spectre x360 and need to know if its trackpad can be turned off, such as with an F (function) key press.   Using the unit in laptop mode with a mouse, I will not want to use the trackpad and my hands will otherwise touch the touchpad and move the cursor all over the place as I type.  My current laptop has an option F4 key to disable the 'internal pointing device' (the trackpad) but I want to know if the Spectre x360 has such an option.  I will be getting my machine with WIN 10 pre-installed.  Thanks.

I recently bought a HP spectre x360 15'' touch screen laptop from best buy. Within 2 months of my usage , while opening the laptop last week, the screen got cracked from the centre . This was totally unexpected. Just by opening the laptop , the screen has a crack in it. I have found several people with the same issue. Also , the hinges of the laptop are way too loose. The screen looks a bit slant . I have found this issue common with alot of people. This is not the problem. I have been to bestbuy , given my laptop for repair. They are charging me $514 for it. This is extremely expensive , given that the laptop cost is around 1000$. The screen repair costs me $514 which is way out of my budget. I dont think this is done and fair. I am ready to spend a bit of money for repairing it even while considering the poor design of this laptop which i realize now , after using it for a while. I cant spend half the laptops cost on only my screens repair. Please look into the matter and give some positive feedback. This has been dragged way too much and its urgent as per my situation.

Hi everyone,  I'm having problems with my brand new HP Spectre trackpad. It seems like a 30% of the taps i do (not clicks)  are not received by the trackpad, so I have to repeat the tap. This issue mostly comes up with the one-finger-tap, whereas with the double finger tap it is less frequent. When i check for possible available new drivers i'm told the drivers of the Synaptic pointing device are perfectly updated to the latest version, but as far as i've been reading online this is a common issue between Spectre owners, therefore I don't think it's an hardware problem. Is there something i can do to fix it? I really like this Notebook but this issue is very frustrating. Thank you.

Hello, just today I've discovered an issue with my laptop (recently acquired). When closing it, the screen will hang over the bottom portion of the device by maybe about 1-2mm, sloping from the left to the right where it does properly rest. I notice as well that the medial joint of the left hinge where it connects with the screen is jutting out slightly, rather than resting flush as the right one does. I haven't had this device long and have pampered it as one would their own child, so this is of great concern to me. I can't recall whether or not I have insurance at this point, but I do have a copy of my receipt on my home desktop.I am trying to include photos I took demonstrating my specific issues with measurements, but they exceed file size limit. If one would wish to see said images, I will happily supply if presented a means to do so. I wish to hear back soon, thank you for your time.

So i got my x360 and I loved it, everything was going fine and no problems at all with it. But after about a month i noticed that the left hinge(looking at the screen in normal laptop use) was starting to wobble. It has gotten more loose since then and now if i have the screen at about 120 degrees and i hold both the screen and keyboard in separate hands and pull, i can see the gap between the screen and keyboard get bigger. Maybe around 2mm. In addition if i shake the laptop back and forth just a bit i can hear the hinge squeaking. Basically it feels like some gears are loose or and is just not normal because the right hinge has no problem what so ever and functions perfectly. I never droped my laptop or hit it in to something so i hope there is a fix for this because i realy need my laptop for college and i love the x360. Thanks.

I'm having problems with the hinge on my HP Spectre x360, it's crooked and appears to be a manufactoring problem. This might seem like a small and unremarkable problem but It's my understanding that because of this problem I'm also having problems with my laptop creaking like crazy. I've been trying out the same laptop at a local department store and that one does not have the same problem. It's really sad seeing as the laptop feels very premium in the material/build but the creaking makes me scared it will fall apart at any secound. Seeing as HP is such a large company I'm guessing that there will be no way for me to get this fixed but I decided to ask here before using some annoying fix like glue to stop the creaking. This is in-excusable for such an expensive product as this one. I'm not prepared to have paid around 2000$ to get a faulty product. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I have a HP Spectre x360, and whenever I try to put the laptop on its side to watch videos or read on my bed, it turns off the keyboard and trackpad even though the laptop itself is still in 'laptop mode'. It even rotates the screen. When it's on its side, it doesn't say that it is in tablet mode, but it does rotate the screen and only allow touchscreen. How do I make it so that it doesn't turn off the keyboard?

I have another year for the legal warranty but the problem is that the HP Service Pack is just expired. Probably there's something i can do before paying another Service Pack and sending my computer to the assistance. Thanks for answers!

Aside from the below trackpad issues, coil whine and fan that likes to spin up even when doing basic tasks, I quite like the new Spectre x360. Issue 1: When using the entire trackpad as a click, the cursor will sometimes move just before I actually click down, which is something I never experienced on my MacBook Air's trackpad. This results in either missing what I originally wanted to click, or clicking on something entirely different. Issue 2: Two-finger scrolling doesn't work in the bottom 20% of the trackpad. I can use two fingers in that area, but scrolling won't actually start until I get towards the middle of the trackpad. So, until I hit that area, it'll just be single-finger pointing. Given the trackpad's wider than it is tall, this can become a problem. I tried messing around with the dated-looking Synaptics settings program, but couldn't get anything to help. Maybe it'll get better with time on its own? Otherwise, hopefully software updates will fix it...

Hi dears,I've bought in my country (Italy) the Spectre x360 (2015 edition), model 4102nl, 8gb RAM, 256 SSD, i7, QHD display in september, so it's two months old.Since first day I've unboxed my Spectre, I've noticed what looks like a manufacturing defect, despite it's very tiny.My right hinge isn't aligned with the display lid, compared to left hinge and it sticks out from the lid less than 1mm. The left hinge doesn't sticks out.Furthermore, when I open the display lid sometimes (usually when I close the display totally) I can hear a very faint noise coming from the right hinge.Could this lead to breaking itself in the immediate future? Can this cause the display glass to break because of its misalignment?I'd like to avoid to send it to service because I need the laptop for work, only in the case it doesn't cause any problem in the future.I've attached some images examples and a video with the faint sound when opening it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2j6u3jpL6M left hinge from top  left hinge from side (the good one) right hinge (assumed to be defective) from the topright hinge (assumed to be defective) from the side. It sticks out about < 1mm on the top part

Hello.  I noticed that the two hinges are slightly uneven.  The right one is slightly higher than the left (which is flush with the base).  It doesn't make the screen uneven or touch the desk.  Just before noticing this, I had applied some pressure directly to the left hinge. Is this OK?  Is there a cause for concern? This is my first 360 laptop and I'm particularly concerned about the durability of these hinges. Thank you!

Hello, I purchased a new spectre x360, w013dx model number, from best buy on Feb 11 2017 and I seem to be having an issue that has popped up on this forum, YouTube, and various other Google searches, namely the loose, or more appropriately, the overly noisy and clicky touchpad. I am wondering A) is this a condition that becomes worse, progressively that is, or does it get better over time as the touch pad and other components get "broken in" so to speak, and mate together better, like using lapping compound on machine parts? B) If this is considered an issue, is there a fix for it if I send it in to HP? It is moderately bothersome to me, and in haven't really experienced it before on other laptops. I really like to use the 2 and 3 finger swipes and scroll features, and when I push down on the touchpad without clicking it, it feels loose and there is an audible click when I press down on it. I am coming from and Acer laptop that had an extremely smooth and oversized glass track pad so I may be overly aware because I got used to that one and it was very solid. I do not want to return it and plan to keep it because otherwise it is fantastic, but I have seen other people say this and I will echo it here, this is a 1200 to 1400 dollar device and  I want to make sure it is in peak condition because I plan to keep it for at least 2 to 3 years. If someone from HP could respond I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Hello, I bought the T61 in 2008 with 3 year warranty in USA. My T61 is showing the loose hinge problem which has been encountered by many other forum users. Right now I'm in Chennai, India and the Lenovo warranty center in Alwarpet, Chennai says the hinge problem is not covered under warranty. Could any one from Lenovo confirm this for me. Thank you, Thaniks

Answer:T61 Loose Hinge - Does the warranty cover this issue?

Well i was once told that Lenovo don't cover hinge problem by the Lenovo service personnel, but then on my second attempt and through some coercion they said yes. Mark_Lenovo did mention that the loose hinge is within the normal repair parameter, while many people in the USA have the hinge problem repaired under warranty. This is the message that Mark_Lenovo sent me regarding the issue of hinge and warranty. ------------------------ The hinges should be covered under warranty.  Sometimes the staking of the pin inside the hinge fails - we have several designs - some are "D" shaped which can become rounded, and some are epoxied I believe.   It is also possible that the screws have loosened which hold the hinge to the LCD frame or to the chasis - the locktite did not hold.  If you are in warranty, I would expect us to cover this unless there were visible signs of abuse (like dent or abrasion from being dropped). ----------------------------

The left hinge of my laptop has suddenly come off due to which the whole screen and back cover keep opening up. This is ridicculous since i have used the laptop very carefully. This looks like a design flaw and HP must repair the laptop or replace it for me.

Answer:Spectre laptop left hinge issue

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

I am still not confident that the Spectre x360 will output 4k on an external screen. I would think there would have to be an option for higher resolution when going to the settings menu on the machine. It would be great if someone that has the Spectre could let me know if there is any option for higher resolution in settings for an external monitor. I am debating how necessary 4k is for my needs and if it would be worth the extra cost and potential problems. I say problems becuase I saw where Bestbuy offers a 13'' spectre with a 4k screen and yet there is no mention of a 4k screen option on HPs website. Is the 4k version discontinued due to technical issues? I have noticed even 1900x1080 content seems to look better on my Samsung 4k tv. I have a camera that has 4k movie capability and this is the only reason I want a 4k screen even though I rarely use this option. I am thinking I can still edit 4k media even though it will not display in 4k. I could copy it to a dvd to display on tv.  I really like the specs of the x360 and am hoping there is a practical work around to display the little 4k content I may use.

Answer:Issue not resolved concerning Spectre x360

The settings menu will only have options for the resolutions enabled for monitors actually attached. I actually have a Spectre 13, which is essentially the same motherboard, with a 1920 x 1080 built-in screen, and have connected it with a USB-C to DP adapter to my 4K monitor and it displays at 4K.  If the only monitor is the built-in 1920 x 1080 full HD screen that is the highest resolution settings will show until you attach a higher res monitor.  I also am a bit underwhelmed by 4K at the present but it is the future.

I have had my notebook for about 8 months. From almost the beginning I have been having a small glitch with my touchpad. Sometimes when I highlight text to be copied and pasted (especially more than a few lines), I lose touchpad control. The only way I've found to get it back is to put the screen down - briefly, like a second - and then lift it back up. Driver is updated. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Problem still present. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My hp spectre is less than two years old. The past 3 days the keyboard has been malfunctioning. A full disc cleanup resolved the issue at first and gave me back a fully functioning keyboard. When I opened my laptop tonight all of the keys between a and enter did not work, besides the letters g and h. I ran a scan and received the failure id: U4QKMQ-7QP8HU-MFPWMF-G06C03 I have tried every single solution in the guided tutorial given by HP support and tried upgrading the BIOS, nothing works. My product ID is K6C19AV

I received a Spectre x360 about a week ago now, and have noticed that under even light use (only 2-4 chrome tabs open) the bottom of the laptop gets hot and under moderate stress (watching a 1080p YouTube video) the bottom gets practically untouchably hot. I had heard that it got "warm" under medium use, but this seems a bit unusual, especially for a "premium" laptop.  I've looked around on the forums to see if there's something I can rectify, so have tried updating the BIOS to no avail. I also doubt there is any dust clogging the fans, considering the issue has been occurring since day 1. Is there anything else I could try without having to open it up, such as a way to make the fan kick in sooner, as I'd hate to send back what is otherwise an excellent laptop.

I think the usb-c ports on my Spectre x360 convertible laptop are faulty. I just bought the computer at Best Buy in late Dec. 2016.  The reasons I think this may be true are: Whenever I move the laptop while the usb-c is plugged in to an external monitor, the monitor temporarily disconnects, even though the movement may be slight.A couple of times per week, I will find that the laptop did not charge overnight, even though the charger was plugged in. The computer will begin charging once I unplug and replug the power cord.I have had great difficulty connecting to an external monitor, which works fine with other computers. I have tried multiple usb-c converters (one for hdmi, one for displayport, and now, a universal hub that connects power, hdmi, and usb in one place). I have also tried different hdmi and displayport cables, so the problem is not with the connectors or the cables. The monitor cuts out frequently (when the computer is moved, but also when it is not being touched).  Many times, I will plug the hdmi or displayport cable in to the computer, and the monitor simply does not receive a signal. If anyone else has experienced similar issues or may help me figure out how to fix these issues, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Greetings for the day dqthehoang, Regarding the battery life and battery backup that has been mentioned here, when the unit says battery upto 12hours, on a idle situation the battery life is upto 12hours or when you are using minimal applications, There are certain applications which would use more battery power, check when you are using any particular application if the battery drains, try updating BIOS through HP.com and Try running battery test through HPSA to check the functionality of the battery, Perform battery calibration on a timely manner to keep the battery in good shape. Regards,Zoan  Please click ?Accept as Solution ? if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.Click the ?Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say ?Thanks? for helping!

I've had a handful of issues with my Spectre but this one is definitely the most annoying. While listening to music, particularly on YouTube via Chrome, the audio playback freezes when either a new video is automatically or manually played. This is characterized by the video being stuck at 0:00, and no sound can be played from the browser or the system itself. The only way to "fix" this is to right click the sound icon, go to playback devices, and disable/enable the "speakers" device (Intel Smart Sound Technology). This has been getting much worse in recent time, where I'll have to disable/enable the speakers device after almost every video I watch. This isn't a problem at all when my Spectre it connected to my monitor via HDMI (in which the speakers are connected to my monitor, so I get the audio that way). It's only a problem when I'm using the notebook speakers or earphones via the earphone jack. Has anyone who has experienced this issue been able to fix it? I've tried updating the sound drivers but have had no success (and don't even get me started on the garbage DTS control panel bs). Any help with this would be much appreciated.

I bought the Spectre x360 about a year and a half ago. I'm a college student, and this was a major expense for me. Yesterday, the computer stopped charging and eventually died. When I try to turn it back on, the power LED blinks three times, but the computer will not boot. I tried a hard reset, but it did not work. After doing some research on this forum, I realized that I have very similar issues to other people who discovered motherboard problems. The price of the motherboard is nearly that of the computer. For a top of the line (and again, expensive) computer like this, I should be able to use it for more than a year and a half before experiencing such a major technical problem. Finals are coming up, I have important documents stored on this computer, and I really need this to be resolved quickly.

I've had the HP Spretre x360 for a good couple of months now, and I was loving it until one of the keys on the keyboard key begin to stick, specifically the "tab" key. I popped it off thinking no harm would be done (not a smart move), but I think I might have damaged the very small plastic hooks that were holding it in. This is my first Ultrabook, and I had no idea that the construction for the keys was so fragile. Anyone with sticking keys on this machine should not pop off the keys or risk damaging those small plastic hooks you can see in the image below (that got rotated for some unknown reason).  If anyone from HP could tell me how to get a new "TAB" key, that would be great. Also, guidance  about putting a new key would be nice too.  Those with sticking keys should be cautious if you plan on taking the keys out.  The Product Model is HP Spectre x360 - 13-4002dx.

I found that almost all other laptops have four finger gesture to swap vitrual desktop but spectre x360 is the signature edition of Hp and still they are missing this. I tried to manually download click pad drivers from synaptics website, i can successfully install it to my laptop but at the clickpad settings still show me the old version.

Hi,

I have an HP Spectre X360 which I bought less than a year ago.
The computer was functioning perfectly up until a couple days ago, when I turned it on and noticed the display not working correctly. It is hard to describe the problem, but basically there is very intense burn ins, which are especially pronounced around the edges, and there is also severe display lag. The colours in general are also inaccurate and look unusual. Videos are practically impossible to watch (everything looks extremely dark, and colours look almost inverted).
The laptop is an HP Spectre X360, with 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, i7 Processor, and Intel HD 55o0 Integrated Graphics.
At this point I'm not even sure if it is a hardware or software problem.

Thanks for any help guys, I always do appreciate your help.
Thank you.

Hello, I just bought a new Spectre x360 (13-4101dx, pre-loaded with Windows 10) and I'm having issues with the Synaptics touchpad. After a Windows update, the driver was updated to version 19.0.12.95.  I have reverse scrolling disabled but for some applications, the two finger scrolling is still reversed. Applications like Google Chrome and Device Manager work fine, the reverse scrolling is disabled. However, for applications like Windows settings, Microsoft Edge, and pretty much everything Windows-related, it seems to be permanently reversed. Also, every time I restart my laptop, all of the settings are reverted back to default. Now, on my HP Envy 15-j000, I have the same driver (19.0.12.95) and I don't face the same issues with reverse scrolling being "permanent" on Windows-related applications. However, the settings do still reset itself after every reboot. How can I fix this? Will Synaptics be releasing a fixed driver for this or am I just missing something? I absolutely hate reverse scrolling and only a small handful of my applications actually run with it disabled...

Answer:Spectre x360 (13-4101dx) Synaptics Touchpad Issue

I have this same issue with my HP OMEN using driver 19.0.12.95, windows update says this is the latest driver. Scrolling remains inverted in some apps/settings.  I fixed this issue by reverting to an older driver (18.1.30.2), scrolling is now uniform. Kinda annoying that I had to fix it this way, but I had to go the HP Omen driver/support page and download the driver for the synaptics touchpad (even though HP's website insists you use Windows update for Windows 10). I then had to install the old driver, go into device manager and roll back the driver to 18.1.30.2 - you have to do this otherwise Win 10 will just use the latest driver. After that you can change the setting in the synaptics clickpad settings and it will be uniform. This was what worked for me.

Hi there I own a HP Spectre x360 - 13-4070nz (ENERGY STAR) and I just acquired a Bluetooth Headset from Bose, the new Bose QC 35. The headset works like a charm any Windows 10 PC I tried (Dell XPS13, Lenovo Yoga) and with my Android Nexus 5X. However, I have a blocker issue if I use it with the Spectre x360. Pairing works, even if I had to repeat the process several times. Once paired, listening to music works mostly fine ? in stereo mode. The problem arises when I try to perform a call. The problem is the same with any program, Skype, Skype For Business, Skype Preview or my Softphone (Bria). I can hear the counterpart, but they can only hear a really loud static noise. I tried an Echo / sound test service with Skype, and the recorded sound is exactly as my counterpart described. I can record and attach it if you want.I have updated all drivers, soundcard, Bluetooth, BIOS, I have updated from Windows 10 to Windows 10 Anniversary update, and I have update the QC35 from 1.0.3 to 1.06. Nothing helps. I have tried all possible setting configuration, remove the Bluetooth device, added it again etc. Still static noise. It is clearly an issue with the Spectre x360, and as far as I know this model had several other Bluetooth issues before. Therefore my question to HP: could you please look into it and update the drivers to support the Bose QC35, which is a hit on the market?Thank you and best regards

Hello,I've recetnly bought brand new hp spectre x360 13and it has a obvious problem with a battery.  The battery is getting drained when the laptop is shut-down(yes, complytly shut-down not in a sleep mode). It can drain about 8-10% battery per night, what is kinda annoying and unacceptable for high-end laptop.I'm wondering if this is due to a problem with the battery or if it is caused by some kind of setting that causing the computer not shut-downing properly.I've already disabled USB power option in BIOS. It didn't help.  Would really appreciate your help. I think this is not a common thing in a new laptop.

Hi!Have an issue that the screen is flickering. Usually the bottom half and its seems to stop when I turn of wifi (flight mode) . I have tried different drivers and made sure the Bios is updated to the latest version.  It comes and goes and get more intense in certain situations but always stops directly when I turn on flight mode. Tried with different combos of WIFI (abgn) but only turning it off seems to work.  It can begin after a few minutes or an hour and can go away for hours and then come back.  For me it seems as its insufficent sheilding or something like that.   Is there some driver that can solve this or is it an hardware issue? I really like this machine but its really anoying with an error like this!  I have been reading and can see that I'm not the only one with this issue.

Hi Folks,    I have a spectre X360 and I am really happy with it.  Great product.  I recently updated the bios and it was really nice to be rid of the glowing keyboard light LED. There is an issue that has popped up though which is incredibly frustrating, like incredibly annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.  The keyboard response to typing a double letter (such as the t in letter) has gone down.  In other words my typing speed is now limited because the keyboard isn't as sensitive as it was prior to the bios update.  Does anyone know of a setting somewhere where I can increase the sensitivity of the keyboard so I'm not constantly going back to correct a missing double letter?  Please! argh it sucks so bad.  It has ruined my experience with this machine.  -Sam

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare.  For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. Regards.

Dear All:   I called in a service request for fixing my X1C's loose trackpad.  i have what many have witnessed: that the front edge (entire front edge) of the trackpad is loose, and can maybe be pressed down 2-3 mm roughly with minimal pressure, while the rear of the trackpad is properly secured. a part was shipped to me (unknown to me till it arrived) which is a thin keyboard with everything BUT the keypad, so it looks like a wafer thin keyboard with all the keys minus the entire area where the trackpad would have fit. my understanding (just a guess but an educated guess as i've been following these fora often) is that some part on the trackpad had been bent incorrectly, hence the lack of a proper grip or leaf spring type of pressure was improperly applied in the front portion of my trackpad, hence the looseness. my concerns: the guy who called to offer to come for at-home service call was very nice on the phone, but, when i asked if he has ever worked on this issue (loose trackpad on the X1C), he wouldn't answer.  when i asked if he's worked on an X1C, he also wouldn't give me a straight answer.  all he said was that he has been doing this for 12 years. granted, he does sound nice on the phone, i.e. a gentle person as opposed to someone yelling gruffly, the fact that he's never opened an X1C gives me concern.  this can't be a good thing that he's learning on my X1C!! furthermore, i'm doubtful that the part they sen... The touchpad seems to be a bit loose. When you put your finger on it, it moves down about 0.5mm. This might not seem like a lot of movement but it's still enough to be annoying. And you also hear a dim click sound when you put your finger to it when the touchpad "hits" the surface below it - which is especially noticable when 'tapping to click'. Is this enough reason for to use the warranty to get the laptop repaired? The video below illustrates my problem exactly on another model of laptop, in my case it's not nearly as severe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfN752lZ8rY Any advise on what to do? I don't want to be picky but this is a really annoying problem for me, makes the laptop feel like it's made badly and I can't ignore it.  The laptop is only a couple of days old.

One of the hinges on my two week old Yoga 11s is looser than the other. As I open the lid and push it back, the left hinge rotates somewhat, but the right one stays firm. Finally, once I reach 180 degrees, they level out. I can also equalise them by closing the screen back up somewhat after opening it. It's not a huge difference between the hinges, but I'm aware of it, and it's kind of annoying given i've only just bought it.  Is this single-hinge looseness normal? Is it worth getting serviced, or are both hinges going to be as loose as barn doors in a few months time?

Don't risk it and get it fixed, imo. If the hinge breaks, your computer is useless.

Hi guys, Would like to ask any of your beloved T400 starting to develop slop or 'play'  on the top of the LCD after opening the Thinkpad already ?

Answer:T400 hinge getting loose

The Thinkpad hinge are renowned for its toughness any play or sloppiness in a new hinge, means problems, even my old 4 year old already dead T42 have no play in the hinge whatsoever. My T400 does not have any play in the hinge whatsoever.  I had a hinge in mine T60 replaced under warranty due to the play, and now it is wonderful once again.

I have a Spectra 360 laptop.  Bought about a year ago.  Although the hinge still holds my screen open it is loose at the internal connection.  One side came loose first, now both sides move about 2 mm.  Is there anything I can do? (The loose part is on the keyboard half.  Where the hinge connects to the screen seems tight.)

Question: X230T Loose hinge?

I am constantly moving my computer between laptop and tablet mode.  After all of the twisting, the hinge doesn't seem to be as sturdy.  The screen is a bit floppier.  Does anyone know if there is a way to tighten the hinge?

Answer:X230T Loose hinge?

Hi Bjc92,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that hinges of your Lenovo X230T had become loose after continuous switching between tablet and laptop mode.

Please refer to pages 67 & 103 in this user guide to see how to remove or fix hinge cap/ hinges.

Also, note that the hinges on laptops often become loose through wear and tear and will result in a screen that will not stay in place. In that case, tightening the hinges alone might not help resolve the issue. The hinges may have to be replaced.

Hope this information helped!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I have had my HP Omen for about 8 or 9 months and slowly the hinge is becoming loose on the screen. So basically if i grab the screen to tilt downward it will move about and inch forward before the grips the hinge and start moving. LIkewise if I hold the laptop by its base and tilt it back and forth the screen will loosely flop back and forth about an inch without affecting the position of the actual hinge. Please advice me on how I can rectify this. I plan to have the computer for at least 2 or 3 more years. Best regards, Scott Georgson

Question: Loose Laptop Hinge

I notice my left laptop hinge is loose, as the screen has become wobbly and it is starting to become harder to open or close it. I am scared if I do not fix this the continous stress on the hinge will eventually cause the lcd screen to fall off the hinge and that if I do not fix this the other hinge will wear out faster by having to do all the work of the loose hinge.  I have looked everywhere online and could not find a video of how to get to the screws on my laptop.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The right hinge on my M 30 is to loose. I have tryed to dismantle the keyboard without succes, what to do?

Answer:Hinge on Satellite M30 is loose

Hi there,

the problem is that you cannot repair it only by tighten some screws. If the hinge on this model is loose then you will need new hinges and to exchange them, the whole machine must be disassembled since the hinges are partially under the palm rest and on the lcd installed.

So, if you want to fix that you should search for an technician which can fix it. Better solution would be to contact an authorized service partner:

This is how I fixed my wobbling screen. My laptop is almost 4yrs old and it is the Y550p(i7). Within my 4yrs I have dropped my laptop and even chipped my slide nav. Now I have it in desktop mode, because my iPad replaced it in portability. The problem I had was screen not staying open in the position I wanted, because of the loose hinge. http://youtube.com/watch?v=fzmjH1rM1DY

Hi- I've had my ideapad since late february. Its been a great laptop and I've generally been very happy with it.Unfortunately, about a month ago the hinge that connects the screen to the base of the laptop has become so loose that the LCD portion of the laptop will no longer stay upright without being propped up against something solid.  I purchased it from Newegg and they don?t except returns after the first month for laptops. Anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks

Answer:Loose Ideapad hinge

Hi, Bets thing to do at this point is to send the laptop for service, never thought that an IdeaPad would have such an issue. Call tech support and have it repaired or replaced.

Recently, the left hinge has become loose on my HP Envy after having it for over a year and a half with no issues. While my warranty has expired, I have discovereed that this is a common manufacterer's issue for this product, so I was wondering what options HP offered for this problem since it is not the fault of the customer.

Hi HP, Product Name and Number:            HP Pavilion g7t Notebook PC  LX514AVOperating System installed (if applicable):       Windows 7 64-bitError message (if any):         NoneAny changes made to your system before the issue occurred:Routine updates from Windows I'd like to start off by saying that I am a big fan and a good customer of your laptops! I had been enjoying my Pavilion but unfortunately, that was short-lived. Even though I am a very caring user of electronics I was surprised when one day the left hinge for my Pavillion's lid came loose (I think a screw might have fallen off). From researching online I understand that this issue has been happening, a lot, to others as well. Before it gets worse and affects an otherwise well functioning computer, if you could please fix this issue. Before this issue occurred to my Pavillion, I have been regularly recommending HP laptops to family and friends. Going forward, as well, I would like to do so. I hope you are able to expeditiously fix my Pavilion's issue.

I've had my y550p for 8 months now, and I just recently started noticing a huge ammount of wobbling. I just called in customer support to send it in for a fix, but the guy wasn't very clear on whether or not I could remove my harddrive before sending it in. He just said remove the battery and a/c adapter. I'm pretty sure I can remove the harddrive but I just want to double check to make sure. Also, After my warranty wears off, I eventually want to be able to fix a wobbly screen myself. Does anyone know where I can find a set of instructions to tighten the hinges?

Hi, I've noticed over the past couple months that my laptop's hinge on the left side was coming apart, which was concerning. I just recently realized that this was not my fault, but instead that 2 screws on the bottom Near the hinges are actually missing. I don't know if they have always been in there or if they fell out, but according to these forums, replacement screws won't work because the part they screw into is broken or something? My warranty has been up for awhile and I don't really know what to do about this to get it fixed? Any help would be great!
