Black Screen Issue on Lenovo Y560 (with ATI hd 5730)

Question: Black Screen Issue on Lenovo Y560 (with ATI hd 5730)

Hello, i have a laptop. (Lenovo y560 ) And laptop's graphic card is ati radeon HD 5730.
(i have no another graphic card like Intel hd graphic)
Intel Core i7-740QM, 1.73 GHz with 2.93 GHz max turbo, 4 cores, 8 threads, 6M cache

I have a big problem with black screen. In a nutshell if i try to install amd grapchic card drive (latest drive, beta crimson drive, first drive of my laptop's manufacturer website , 14.4, 13.3 or others) with plugged in then i see black screen between the loading during.
But if i try to install this graphic card drive with battery (plugged out) then everything can be fine and there is no black screen. Also if i remove the ati graphic card drive on safe mode i can entry on VGA with plugged in or plugged out ( battery) there is no problem. But i have to install amd driver on properly for 3D programs and some games.

By the way i established windows 7, 8.1 and 10 (x64) but there was no solution. I always saw black screen. Also i should say that i tried to install with battery afterthat plugged in but the screen froze.

I searched, read and applied many method as people said to solve this problem. But i didn't solve yet.

I have been really tired to find a solution this awful problem for three weeks. I read many article, topic and i tried to every method what i saw on those places as this pages. Especially i performed regedit method ( change the crossfire 1 to 0 or 0 to 1 i mean ULPS, also i tried change the value of KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 1 to 0 or 0 to 1, and change as this MD_EnableBrightnesslf2 ) , performed to autodetect driver, turned OFF fast startup on windows 10, installed graphic card drive from device manager chose as a folder, besides all these method i looked and changed some power options for instant set to % 5 minimal performance with plugged in and battery, updated the bios on y560 support pages...

Afterthat i want to indicate my problem with this page. I thought maybe some people can help me to find a solution. If someone help me i would appreciate.
Thank you in advance.

Preferred Solution: Black Screen Issue on Lenovo Y560 (with ATI hd 5730)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I got some serious problems lately then I format my notebook. Then I started installing my drivers when  I restart black screen shows up. After searching and trying to much things, I discovered its my graphic card driver. I uninstall from device manager in safe mode and laptop open perfectly in lower resoultions. Then I tried all ccc drivers from oldest to newest betas and same problem every time . Then I found something about energy management. I can start it with on battery without any black screen, when I plugged in it cause laggin and freezing problem again. Then I check some values on advanced power settings and change one thing. at? graphics power settings I took that values to maximize batter life and it open perfectly I checked it in game and it was looking ok. But then I faced with some other problem, where I can't play online videos. Seriosly sometimes from youtube I can play some html5 videos but sometimes its just freezing . Any helps? Thanks. y560i7 1.7 ghs4 gb ram5730 At?

hi all, i got an ideapad y560 0646 with i7 and radeon 5730 without switchable graphics. after starting, the windows logo appears and afterwards just a black screen. no windows logon. starting with standard vga drivers is possible. im currently running windows 7 prof 64 bit. i remember that i installed windows 7 prof 32 bit in november 2011 and after installing the graphic drivers from lenovo homepage i faced the same issue. so i continued using windows 7 64 bit. i think there was a windows update which caused the issues for windows 7 64 bit. i installed the latest drivers but this didnt work. i think this is no hardware issue because ubuntu is running fine. i would like to try the old drivers which came with the y560 on cd. unfortunately i cant find the cd. does some have the old driver cd and could upload the drivers or name the file of the driver so i can download it from the web?

Hi guys,My Laptop configuration: HW: Lenovo y560 with ATI Radeon HD 5730 (no Intel graphic card on the board)         Intel Core i7-740QM, 1.73 GHz with 2.93 GHz max turbo, 4 cores, 8 threads, 6M cache OS: Windows 7 64x with latest updates. Video driver: ATI driver version: 8.752.0.0 Issue: The screen turns completely blank every time when I turn on my laptop and the windows logo disappears. The login window doesn't appear at all and there is no response. Besides, it?s not possible to reboot a laptop by using Ctrl-Alt-Del on this stage and only power button helps. However everything works fine in safe mode. Workaround that works:Start my laptop into safe mode.Reboot a laptop into standard mode without any changes. As a result, everything works fine untill I turn off my Lenovo. What has been tried in order to solve the issue with no success:- installed the latest drivers of ATI Radeon and beta crimson drives;- changed power options to minimize performance;- edited registry's values (enableULPS, EnableBrightnessInterface2);- updated the bios to the latest version. I have been really tired up to find a solution of this awful problem for three weeks. Please help.

I have a lenovo y560 which i was using the other day. I was doing some light text editor stuff and then decided to run a game. The game ran for 30 seconds and then the screen froze. I figured it was a silly overheating problem even though i had the laptop propped up for good airflow. I figured it was nothing but a hang so i had to hard reset the computer. It started back up right away but had a few horizintal white lines going though the screen. I though i best leave it for a minute and let it cool down perhaps. A minute later and the screen goes black and i cant bring it back on. Tried another restart and get no responce from the screen. Not even the lenovo flash screen. I thought it was best to leave the computer so i did not touch it for a day or so. I bought an external monitor and plugged it to the vga port and i am able to see the lenovo flash screen again even though it has vertical blue dashs going through it and then some strange symbols flash over. Now the strange thing. If i boot into windows safe mode i can see windows on the external monitor. If i boot into normal windows i see the lenovo screen then the external monitor loses signal. I thought i would take a chance and do a system restore in safe mode to see if it affected windows which it did not. The main difference i can see is windows aero theme between the 2. Has my 3.5 month laptop crapped itself already? Burned out video card?

Hi, I have this 4 year old Lenovo Y560(config below)The discrete graphic card has probably fried a long time ago, so last year when I did a clean install of Windows, I had to disable ATI Card permanently in the device manager using safe mode and used the Intel integrated card. A few days ago, I booted up windows only to encounter, "A disk read error has occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart" . I tried to boot up using WIN 7 install disc, but soon after the Starting Windows logo , the screen turns black and I am left with a cursor in a black screen. I tried to boot into Safe Mode but still I encountered a black screen with just the cursor . I booted with Ubuntu live usb and was able to access all my partition and did back up and even formatted the Windows Partition. I tried to boot using a WinPe and faced the Black screen with a cursor again. I even reset BIOS to default, changed Graphics Adapter from "Discrete' to "Switchable' and vice-versa, but no effect at all. When I boot up using Ubuntu and ran lspci | grep VGA I can see both cards listed. I even tried to boot up using Windows 10 preview disk, still I get a black screen after the Windows loading screen.I can't afford to buy any laptop presently since I am currently at college, so using Ubuntu for now. Is ther any way to install Windows 7 again? Is it possible to get the ATI Card working properly- reballing, reflow? Any way to permanently disable the ATI card and get windows to boot up using the integrated chip.Notebook... Read more

itle. when i start the laptop up, if i try to run it via normal mode, it'll show a black screen after the windows logo. the computer is still running. safe mode works completely fine. uninstalling the AMD drivers (for my 5730 Raedon) and going with the generic VGA drivers works fine; this issue only appears when i try and use the AMD drivers. this issue only started today. before, the PC worked flawlessly, no hiccups. i was using it last night, completely fine, and when i started it up today, this issue appeared. i was wondering if anyone had a fix for this, or, a certain driver version that would work? i've used the AMD drivers provided on the lenovo site, those were no bueno. i tried the lastest AMD drivers and again, no good. any help with this issue would be appreciated.

Hello guys.

I also have a Y560 - os Win7 64b. Same problems as those presented above. I recently upgraded to BIOS 71 and the message to refresh the windows performance index was not present anymore.

However I have seen that lenovo energy management is going mad. It doesn't change anymore the brightness if you have the laptop plugged in or running on battery. At the same time it changes its settings by itself. Anyone else having this problem? I went back to BIOS 59 and the problem is gone.

Thank you,

(Assuming you've Win 7 32-bit), you can download the drivers from here:- http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/ot/en/DriversDownLoads/APR_Driver_List.aspx?CategoryID=661448&OS=W...

For BIOS update, start with cold boot and make sure no program is running in the background while BIOS you install it. For video driver, install the AMD graphics driver from the list.

Hope this helps.

My problem is as follows, my laptop when booted using the high performance GPU BSODs as soon as it should show the log in screen. It gave me this stop code :0x00000116 and listed some ati driver file.(actually first it goes dark for around 10 seconds, then shows a BSOD) I tried various drivers (official and not) all end up with a BSOD. Once the 5730 is uninstalled the system boots normally (however you know the intel one gets like 17 fps in games a decade old). Opened up the plastics in baseplate, checked if all elements are secure in place, they were. IT IS NOT THE DRIVER, OTHERWISE GOING THROUGH A FEW DIFFERENT SOMETHING WOULD WORK I prefer not to update my bios (unless you are entirely positive it will fix the issue) because Murphy's law is what it is. If something can fail it will, if theres 1 defective item in a pile of a 1,000,000 i will get the broken one. Last thing I want to do is fight with customer support while having a laptop thats entirely unoperatable. Now my question is:Is there any way to fix it under the warranty (I got it around 5 weeks ago) without having to ship to china? If not, how do I actually go about shipping it for repair and how long will it take for them to fix it and send it back? I really doubt this is a software issue, yes I tried the sticky so the love of god don't link me to it.

I need help and suggestions on what to do with this black screen crisis. Mine is a little different that others. so sorry if this is a repeated thread. ive looked everywhere, and no one has the issue when they have dual boot.

laptop description:
I have dual boot on my laptop with windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and windows 7 home premium 64 bit. the home premium came pre installed on the laptop and the ultimate version i installed later dual boot (i needed some capabilities that home premium doesn't have).

Problem: I cannot see anything on my screen after windows logo while booting up my laptop bcz of the black screen after the windows logo. When i boot into WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM. i hear windows logon screen notification noise but see nothing! oddly enough even my built in webcam logs me in with VeriFace software with my face, passwordless! ALSO my laptop boots fine with windows 7 ultimate and i can see everything, and it works great! i need the other version to WORK cause my life is in that other version of windows. i cannot factory restore!!!

What i have tried: the keyboard is also unresponsive, bcz i held down a bunch of keys to see if it makes the beep noise. I closed the laptop lid to see if it goes into hibernation and waited 3 mins to see if it still does, so that when i open it i can see everything (it has worked before). nothing. i rebooted a bunch of times even with a second screen attached, tried to guess switch into projector mode with my function key and switch s... How to run System File Checker (SFC) or chkdsk from the Recovery ConsoleBoot your Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD
When you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", press Enter
At the "Install Windows" screen, click on Repair your computer at lower left
At the System Recovery Options screen, make note of the drive letter assigned to your boot drive (normally C and click Next
At the Chose a Recovery Tool window, click on Command Prompt. You will be sitting at X:\Sources directory
Run SFC or chkdskIf you did not note the drive letter of your boot disk, you can enter bcdedit and look at the osdevice line to see what it is.
For sfc, type sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows and press Enter (use the letter from above)
For chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r and press Enter (use the letter from above).

Let either run to completion undisturbed.

I have a query about the ATI drivers for the Y560. I've got a mobile Radeon 5730, and i'm fairly sure i do NOT have switchable graphics (nothing about it in the bios or anywhere as far as i can tell, i'd probably be able to tell if i did). Currently running the driver version 8.702.5.0 (from device manager). Suffice to say, i'm running the stock driver that came with the laptop. I was wondering what the recommended drivers are to update. Whether i need to update them via Lenovo's own driver site, or whether i should go to ATI's site and grab the latest and greatest Catalyst drivers from here-http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx I want to have them install as perfectly as possible. I was also wondering what important steps i should take to keep the installation process as perfect and glitch free as possible (including avoiding blue screen errors). I've only read the thread about switchable graphics drivers and instructions for it, so i'm assuming the process i should follow will be considerably different. I'm a bit paranoid about all this. Mostly because i tried this already once when i first got my Y560 and got this issue here happen-http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-B-V-and-Z-series/Ideapad-Y560-Driver-Update-Bluescreen/td-p/...http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=141162 I guess the real question is whether updating the driver is worth it. Is there a way of updating my ATI drivers if I have a y560 w/ switchable graphics? Obviously official installer doesn't work.  I read a 'workaround' which involved running the official installer, waiting for it to grab the files then manually updating. However this didn't work, the official installer wouldn't start the download as it thinks I'm incompatible, so I can't even get to the stage where I can work with the raw install files.  Also if I do something like this, wouldn't it break catalyst control centre? and if so breaking the switchable graphics feature?

Hi, I have configured in the BIOS the video card in discreet mode ( GRAPHIC DEVICE [DISCRET GRAPHIC] ).  Supposedly the video card ATI HD 5730 1GB "dedicated" does not share RAM. My question is: if is dedicated, in computer properties says I have only 3GB usable instead of the full 4GB RAM??  Why NOT appear 4GB usable in discret mode?? using only dedicated 1GB ATI?? * While the option in the BIOS GRAPHIC DEVICE [Switchable Graphics] appears in the properties 2.93 GB usable. This is logical, because the RAM missing is used by the integrated Intel video card... sorry for my bad english

Hey, everyone I have a Lenovo y560 that I purchased in 2010 and I've had to get Lenovo to repair the same hinge issue on three separate occasions,  also two of the three times that a technichan replaced the hinge they ended up damaging my computer.  The hinge issue that I had was the left hinge always seems to become loose, because of a design flaw. The exact problem that I've had is explained more in depth here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/543887-y560-hinge-issue-explained.html Anyway, my hinge is acting up again and I feel that it is unfair to me to have to pay to get this hinge fixed again because Lenovo can not provide me with a permanent fix for my problem. My case number is : WN373530 Are my options just to stop dealing with Lenovo and go with another computer manufacterer that can provide quality products and provide permenant solutions? I wanted to know if anyone could provide me with some insight or suggestions as to what I should do next.   Thanks,  -Vlad

Hello everyoneI have a problem with a second hand Lenovo C200 All in One system I've been given. My usual stick with new hardware is reinstall Windows 7, which went fine. It took me a while to find the drivers due to this site, but I did and installed them all. This also went fine. I then noticed when I came back the screen was black and wouldn't respond. I looked it up on here and found a solution suggesting the Intel Graphics update 3150 (working from memory might have the wrong number there) was causing the problem. I uninstalled this and found that it was. This is rememdied by an aparent BIOS update. Now my issue comes when finding the BIOS update for the system. It doesn't exist on this site. I've found one for the C200 thinkpad, c200 notebook, but nothing for this AiO system. If someone knows, or has a download for this from a trusted provider I'd be greatful. I'm not going to give the 2 I found a shot without clarification first... Thanks for any help.

Question: y560 black screen

After starting my computer this morning, cyan/pink/yellow static lines started to appear. A few seconds later the screen went black and I can no longer get my computer running. It powers on and fan turns on, but just a black screen appears. I have tried removing the battery and holding down the power button as some have suggested but that doesn't help the issue. I believe the graphics card is broken and I would buy a new motherboard but Lenovo only seems to sell this part with a CPU installed, driving the price up to $428... At which point I would rather just buy a new laptop (not lenovo after all the trouble I have gone through with this y560). I am shocked there isn't a class action lawsuit on this.

Question: Y560 Black Screen

Hi folks, I am pretty desperate and not happy with Lenovo. After 3 years of good use (no warranty obviously) my 950$ laptop (i7 1.60 GHz, 8 gig ram, 500 gig hard drive, ATI 5730 graphic card) started to show a black screen after the windows logo disapear upon booting. After 20 min, it shut down automatically and start to do the same thing again and again and again until i get enough and boot it in safe mode with networking. But I didn't buy a 950$ laptop just to go on internet with the integrated graphic card; I have the 0646 with no switch graphic card. At that point I suspected the graphic card to be linked to my black screen issur I checked on the Lenovo forum and I there are a lot of people that got the black screen like me. So I followed some of the recommendations mentioned by good samaritans. First thing I did is remove remove all dust present near the heat sink but the black screen still showed up. Then, I try to change the graphic card driver by a chinese driver mentioned to be the issue for some black screen issue but again, no success. Then, I try to place a penny between the graphic card and the heat sink; not successful. I removed the penny a change the old paste by some articsilver 5; no success. I then set the minimum processing speed at 5% playing with active and passive cooling but no success. At that point I was pretty tired so I did a factory revovery using the onekey option; black screen again. Unfortunatly, I cannot install windows on safe mode so I ... Read more

hi gnorin,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, when you boot into the BIOS > Configuration Tab, don't you have a switchable graphics opton?
 - Link to picture

When you re-installed the sysetm via the OneKey Recovery, did Windows downloaded some updates, rebooted the PC and gave you the black screen?
  - if this is the case, try to temporarily turn off WIndows Updates after OneKey Recovery and observe.

Alternatively, If the issue is with the display driver not responding, see this TDR Delay Fix  (see the "Let Me Fix It Myself" guide)

Let me know your findings

I have a problem with my y560. It works ok in the safe mode, but when I try to turn it on normally, the lenovo thing appears, the Windows says that it's starting and then the screen goes black. I hear the notebook working, but the display doesn't show anything. I tried to connect an external monitor but it goes black the same second the display does. I even tried the OneKey Recovery thingy, but the only thing that happened is that now the Windows starts in English. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong with it?

Hello, My laptop has been acting a little strange lately and today it finally decided to stop working all together.  I was using the      internet like normal when my computer froze and then the screen glitched and showed a bunch of random pixels.  Forced it to shut down and when i tried to boot it again the screen refused to show anything. It made all the normal boot sounds and the fan/hard drive make noise but nothing on the screen.  I've tried restarted multiple times and followed some other internet tips of unplugging the cord and battery, holding power button, then restarting.  I reinstalled my RAM, removed the harddrive, but still don't know what else to do?  I think it needs a BIOS reset but I can't seem to get it to go.  Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, After I boot up, the screen turns completely blank.. the login window doesn't appear and there is no response. This happened after my laptop got unusually hot when I was gaming then it shut down itself. However everything works fine in safe mode. Also, in safe mode, I tried disabling and uninstalling the ATI 5730 driver, then went back to normal mode, and everything is fine again. But after I login, windows automatically installed the ATI driver, then the screen goes blank again! This is driving me crazy!I think the problem is with teh aTI card,. Also my ati driver is NOT the latest version (8.752). On the lenovo driver website there is a new driver (8.772) but I can't install drivers on safe mode... I also heard installing the 8.772 version won't change anything cuz device manager will still say its 8.752. All your help is appreciated! ATI 5730 + intel HD graphics switchablei5 460m @2.53 Ghz

Answer:Y560 Black Screen After Boot Up

hey navinahc,

I would like you to uninstall the ATI driver via safe mode, then boot into normal and try to cancel off the installation.

if you're able to cancel the ATI driver installation in normal mode, kindly try the following steps.

1. Go to system properties2. click on "Advance System Properties"3. click on "hardware" then on "Device Installation Settings"4. select radio button "No, let me choose what to do"5. select radio button "Never install driver software from Windows Update"6. click Save Changes.?

once the above is done, restart your system. The steps above is to stop the computer from auto-installing, now go to http://support.lenovo.com and do an update of your computer.

Hello, I've got a Y560 with the ATI (AMD) Mobility Radeon and what happens is the following:- I turn on the laptop, can get into BIOS and safe mode boot menu, etc- Starting Windows- and before the actual Win7 logon screen my screen turns black. Not pitch black, but still dark. It doesn't look like it's just a screen problem - I don't hear the windows startup sound nor can I blindly logon by entering the password. Changes in the last few days:- Windows updates - a whole bunch of important updates installedOlder stuff:- Some time in May I got the latest ATI drivers (v 14.x) and my laptop couldnt handle it so I reverted to the what I had previously (v 13.x)- ~1month ago I upgraded RAM from 4gb to 8gb --> Everything was working fine with the above 2. What I tried so far and DIDN'T WORK:a) System restore before win updates. This worked. But After I left my computer to standby and after shutdown - couldn't start again - black screen.b) Safe mode - delete video drivers - install a fresh copy. - I tried this with v 12.x, 13x, 14.4 and 14.7 of ATI/AMD Catalyst and didnt work (not sure what the actual driver version is) - Last resort - downloaded official Lenovo drivers - from 2011.  What is working:- safe mode- normal mode without drivers What could be the problem? My video card dying? Could it be overheating (though I dusted the inside of the laptop recently)? Any suggestions?

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If your computer is booting up in safe mode. this means that a service or an application in normal mode is starting up with a problem.
Perform a Clean Boot to isolate which one is it and you'll be able to use the system in normal mode again,

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Hello,I am having this pesky 'black screen after windows logo problem', that I see many Y560 users have. Let me start at the beginning; It all started when my computer would freeze and go to BSOD if I was watching YouTube videos (somehow Flash player had some problems with GPU or something) but only in Firefox. So I updated the GPU driver to the newest 2014 edition - no help, only BSOD at bootup of Win7. I put the old driver back and watched videos and flash player stuff in Chrome, which seemed to worked fine. After some time, I had random freezes even without any flash player, so I decided to do a system restore to a previous date. That seemed to work for a while, yet I had random freezes all the time. Funny thing is, most games I played (Guild Wars 2, Hearthstone, War Thunder) did not freeze my computer at all. So after a long and frustrating work trying to fix this problem and after numerous 'power down button' resets, my computer would just start to black screen at boot up. It all ended with the last option on table: One Key Recovery, which did not help at all, since it would not boot up and would have the BLACK SCREEN again. I then tried entire re-installation of Win7, which seemed to work until I updated GPU drivers, then again - black screen in boot up.  I finally had enough, went to official repair store, just to hear the verdict if its dead GPU or dead MOBO or what da hell. The repair guy found a faulty ram sticks, replaced it and then it worked fine w... Read more

For about 2 years I've lived with the problem discussed elsewhere: Y560 blank screen after hibernation, which I've worked around fine by blindly logging in, then Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring the screen back on. I've also had the occasional blue screen, which seemed completely random and isolated (not occuring after installing new software/drivers), but it always recovered just fine. After my latest blue screen, however, the auto-restart brought up a black screen. I tried blindly logging in, but the Ctrl-Alt-Del trick didn't work so I forced a shutdown. Powering up again, same result. Tried different combos of sleeping & hibernation, no success. Couldn't get into Safe Mode either by blindly holding down F8 on startup (on windows 7). Then I brilliantly decided to hook up the laptop to my TV to see what was going on... no signal right up until user login, and the colors/graphics are all off and streaky on the TV (monitor is still blank). I was able to properly shut down then power up into Safe Mode finally. Everything looked fine at that point, so I shut down. I was able to power up once, perfectly fine, but then the next time I came out of sleep mode, everything went haywire: blank screen again, unresponsive controls, forced shutdown. NOW, when I power up, hooked up to the TV, I get the black screen until the streaky login, then after logging in, complete screen of static, multi-color streaks filling the whole screen, then the laptop restarts. Repeat cycle. Is my mo... Read more

Hi hiaphua,

Thank you for Posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

Am sorry to hear about the issue that you?re facing,

I?d like to guide through several steps to see if we can fix the issue:

Could you please totally switch it off and then remove the battery from the laptop and then connect the charger and don?t connect it to the TV and then I?d like to ask you to press and hold on the power for 10 sec,

And then you can reconnect the battery and turn on the laptop as this step is for releasing any extra electric charge on the motherboard,

If still the same I?d like to ask you to start trying the recovery of the system which will return the machine back to the initial state so if you have any Personal Data on C: partition it will be totally erased,

To start the recovery  totally switch off the machine and then press on the OKR Button which is very small button next to the power button with the image of Curve arrow and then if you can see windows loading files this mean that the recovery is trying to start,

After that you?re supposed to get the options for the One key recovery and you will press on the One key recovery option and then Restore from initial backup and then start and the process  will start and take from 20-30 minutes running and you?ve to make sure that the laptop will be always connected to the Ac-Adapter and the battery and without interruption to the process while running and t... Answer:Blue Screen Problem with my Lenovo Y560

grumibien, Have you checked to make sure you have the latest Adobe Flash Player installed, and that you have all the Visual C++ installed. Also you might check to be sure you have all DirectX files. If you have some that are missing that could cause you to have the problems you are having. I had that problem and was able to clear things up by doing those things. Also make sure you have the latest Video Drivers. Good luck

HELLO TEAMI have bought a second hand Lenovo y560, and I have done a clean win7 Ultimate OEM x64 Bit install. After this I couldn't see the ATI  graphics card in the device manager. (im not sure it was there before install). I have done all possible methods to find it using AMD software update tool, but it says no hardware found.. it was showing 2 Intel HD Graphics Cards Later I tried fiddling with bios and changed some values in "Configuration Tab"related to switchable graphics  to "discrete", below that some parameter like VMM ( blame my memory not sure) . Later I rebooted after saving changes and the screen has gone black. I tried bios update recovery (Wincris USB bootable method) option mentioned in the forum, and it did not work.. (Earlier I had tried updating BIOS, it failed and I used Wincris recovery by making bootable USB and it was successful) Can any tech friends out here could help me getting back to screen, Thanks a lot in advance Jakes

You have entered bios here. Here press f9 once and then press enter. ... Read more

hi, this lenovo not only freezes when i'm playing a game, but when i'm using word as well. Some marks appear in the screen and i can't do anything else, just shut it down. I checked the temperature and it seems to be ok, i know is not the screen because if i connect other monitor it freezes as well.

When i restart the screen is usually full with marks since before it gets to windows, even if i try to get to the bios. And if i connect another monitor the same, so i know is not the screen. i have no warranty, and i've seen lots of posts with similar problems, i try their solution but it doesn't work (things like clean the fan to decrease temperature etc) it freezes even with 50C

this is the screen when it freezes

then when i restart it

and after that it never loads windows, usually ends up in a screen like this

Please help!, and thanks

I bought a Y560 today and was running the Windows Experience Index to get the score when the screen went black. None of the function keys turn the screen back on. I've tried restarting, no dice. I plugged it into my monitor and it shows start up, but afterwards it loses the signal. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Answer:Y560 Screen Issue (Not pixel related)

Had you try doing a System Restore with the OneKey Recovery? Sorry, hard idea... but sometimes it's a driver issue that it's hard to figure out; and the easy way to solve the proble: install all over again.

Hi all,First post!  My Dad's Lenovo laptop goes to a black screen when starting up, so is unusable.I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but have started to research things for him and have found that 'black screen' shows up quite a lot for Windows 10 and Lenovo PCs! We were so impressed with my Dad's PC I've ended up with the same model myself:Lenovo YOGA 500 Convertible Laptop, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6" Touch Screen. Also labelled as: Yoga 500-15IBD Laptop (ideapad)  I see some people mentioning hardware failures and others device driver problems with the graphic card etc. but haven't read a definite cause/fix for this so far. I've just found this recent critical BIOS update for this PC which mentions the black screen problem:Software name: BDCN63WW Version 63[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue.http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-500-15ibd/downloads/D...I haven't seen this mentioned in the forums? Has anyone else used this?If the PC always boots to a black screen I'll obviously have trouble installing this! I'm hoping that it will boot in Safe Mode or I'm going to have some trouble installing it?! I don't know whether to install the BIOS update on my own machine which is running fine - I think I'll wait until I see my Dad's laptop first which will be in a few weeks. Has anyone had any experience of this BIOS update or other comments on this?Thanks. &nb... Answer:Yoga 500 'BLACK SCREEN' - BIOS update: "[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue"

I'm still wondering about this... I've just updated the Lenovo Companion after seeing it mentioned in another thread. It looks like this s/w is supposed to scan the PC and recommend Lenovo updates - critical and nice to have ones. Initially the Companion was showing a critical update for Lenovo SHAREit and a recommended one for my BIOS. It says I'm currently on BDCN28WW and offered something like v61 and not the 63 I mentioned in my first post? After letting it update SHAREit and re-scanning the BIOS update is no longer being offered and still shows me on v28 ??? I'm not sure I trust this 'Companion' app!My laptop seems to be running fine so I don't want to break it updating the BIOS if it's not required. For all I know my Dad's broken one may be broken because it upgraded?! Does anyone else use/trust the Companion app?And has anyone else seen it change it's mind on recommended BIOS updates? Thanks.

I bought the laptop a year ago. It has been repaired 3 times. The last time it was taken care of by MichelleCustomer Advocate, Customer Complaint Resolutions,Customer Satisfaction Programs,Lenovo Services in Canada. She said she is going to replace the unit  after 2 unsuccessful repairs. But the third time when I received the laptop it has 2GB less memory and the problem with big cursor, screen flickering, blank scrreen still persists. And now I find that it's the same unit too as confirmed by the technical rep 4 days ago. Wow!!!

This problem started after 2 weeks I bought the laptop and still is going on. But now the customer advocate does not respond to my email neither does she respond to my voicemail. The technical service rep says she can't do anything until customer advocate responds and it's been 4 days now and still no solution.

My lenovo escalation number is  SF36341.

I see that many are experiencing the same problem with this model.

Does Lenovo care????

Hi folks, greetings from a newbie on the 'sunny' [joke] island of Alderney, in the English Channel Islands. Wonder if anyone out there has seen this 'lulu'?
My TravelMate has decided that the letter between \ - forward slash - and x on the keyboard is now no longer a letter, but it causes a green 'Volume \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' sign to appear at the base of the screen.
Let's face it, it must have been me hitting something I really shouldn't , as I know that I'm dumb but , every combination of 'ctrl', 'alt', etc., doesn't seem to work and it's no good Googling it, as I can't type the letter into the line!!
A very sad old fool would much appreciate any feedback on this one.
Thanx in advance
Aurigny

I have a IdeaPad Y560. We have had a strange problem for some time that I'm not sure how to solve. The laptop works fine once you've booted into windows but for some reason pressing F2 or F12 to either enter the boot or setup menu does not work. The screen simply goes black and stays that way. It is almost like I'm in the bios but can't see it on the screen. I have update the bios via the OS without a problem but the issue remains.

Answer:Ideapad y560 will not boot to bios(Black Screen) but will boot to windows 10 and function normally

Same here...the problem started with me trying to update to windows 10.. Initially the update didnt work and i got reverted back to windows 7.. Later, however, i downloaded the win 10 ISO manualy and was succesful in updating to a Windows 10.. Within a couple of days however, all I got was a blank screen on booting to windows(the lenovo and BIOS worked currently until that time). So, I made a live win 10 DVD and reset my installation to a fresh install (kept my files). The installation aborted mid way.. Then, I had to reinstall freshly without keeping my files..Now, Win 10 works alrite but then while trying to go to my BIOS menu, nothing happens and I just get booted straight to the Windows environment..Can someone tell me what happened?

Hi everyone, I have Lenovo y560 (dxdiag here: http://pastebin.com/mYHTd6Je) with ATI drivers from lenovo here. I'm trying to upgrade the drivers from the AMD drivers website. I used both the auto detect and the 5-step process and they both pointed to that driver, but when I try to install it the display drivers are not correctly installed because device manager shows my graphics card as, "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000." As a result the resolution isn't what it should be and I am unable to change it as well. I searched around on these forums, but only found out that a lot of people also have trouble updating the drivers for the Mobility Radeon HD 5730.  Is there someway to get the driver to update correctly? Thank you

My Lenovo Y410 screen goes black at boot, I never see anything other than a faint dim light on the monitor, like what you would see under normal circumstances until the OS started.   I can hear the pc turn on, I can type in my password, even without seeing where it goes, and the pc actually starts fine, I just can't see anything.   Anyone who can help me with this?

Answer:Lenovo Y410 Screen goes black and stays black at startup

Have you tried hooking up an external monitor? Then press (I think) Fn+F3 to toggle between ext. and lcd. This sounds like it MAY be a problem withe the lcd inverter.Very dim screen? You can just barely see images? If so, the inverter can be replaced, or the whole lcd may need replacement. If you have warranty, use it! If not, inverter can be replaced yourself, if you have patience and are careful. Search web for "replace lcd inverter"Here is one good site, different laptop, but you can see the basic steps.

Its a hardware problem of some description. A technician would need to assess it. If its not even getting close to the boot process.Call Lenovo Tech Support who may advise you on something.

Recently i bought a Lenovo y500 laptop with 12 ram and 16gigs of SSD. It came with Windows 8 by deffault and what i wanted was to install Linux Ubuntu 12.04 alognside with the Windows 8. It didn't work out, because i could only log into linux. When i tried to log in in Widonws it said: "unknown command drivemap      invalid EFI file path, so i used the one key recovery. It loaded Windows but i noticed 2 things:1st. After loading the Lenovo logo the screen turns black without the cursor on it and stays that way for about 17-25 sec. That means that from 20 sec boot time now it is 40+.How could i fix that one?2nd. After creating the backup i divided the 1tb disk into smaller discs and after the rocovery they were the way i left them with all the games and media on them. I thought that the one key recovery would undo the partiton i have made. The 2nd one isnt bugging me out so much but the 20 secs extra boot time do. The changes i have made in bios are disabling secure boot and switching boot mode from UEFI to legacy. After that i switched secure boot to enabled and the boot mode to UEFI as it was in the beginning.

Answer:Lenovo y500 black screen after the lenovo logo slows down boot time

hi psskobraa,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1. The additional 17-25sec boot time is probably caused by the UEFI Firmware / UEFI boot loader (see this flowchart) - this probably got modified when you installed Ubuntu. Can you try to boot back into the BIOS, press F9 to load default settings then press F10 to save It settings. If this doesn't work, is the boot time the same when Disabling Secure Boot and UEFI set to Disabled/Legacy first?

2. OneKey Recovery usually reimage the OS partition only (i.e. C:\) and will not affect any other partitions (i.e. D:\)

I just bought this laptop for about 1 month, the laptop work fine before. But after...I don't know maybe after the windows update, the driver make the screen flickering and some dots appear on the screen, sometimes the screen lagging and went black. I'm pretty sure it's because of the driver because if I disable it, everything is fine, but that is just a temporary fix, every games is unplayable when I disable the driver. I tried to reinstall it using driver from Intel, Windows, Lenovo but none of them work(newest)

To make a long story short, I've been asked to help fix a friends mom's U410 laptop which wasnt activiting Windows 8.1 properly (Was Windows 8 OOB). After struggling with the activation for a few hours, I backed up the data and decided to just run the Lenovo one key recovery. During the recovery process, the installation had failed. When I attemped to reboot, no Lenovo splash screen was loading - just a black screen (although i can hear the cooling fan start, and hear the harddrive spin up. I tried to access the boot menu thru the novo button, and nothing would load; still a black screen. After researching for a few more hours, I had found multiple threads about bios updates required to be able to access bios with windows 8, and other threads about gpus on these units booting to a second screen (which i did test, and the second monitor does indicate a signal). None of the solutions on those threads have given positive results.   Basically, I've run out of options and am looking for some suggestions. The only thing that shows up on the display at anytime is the small blue novo menu when the button is pressed (normal start up, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery - all of which just leave a black screen). Thanks.

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop for the past two years.Apart from the famous battery issue with this laptop, I have not had any problems with this unit. Since yesterday, I am getting a black screen after logon to Windows XP.Yesterday, I was able to log on and then the laptop will go black after a minute or two after log on. Today, it has gotten worse, as soon as the Windows XP logo comes on, the screen goes black after a fewseconds. I also noticed that the Lenovo Icon displayed during Power On is also Teal in Color. I tried booting the laptop in Safe mode and the problem still remains.I tried booting the laptop using Windows XP CD and try to repair the Windows XP installation using R optionand still the screen goes black.  Please advice if this is a hardware or software or virus issue.

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N100 - Teal Color Lenovo Icon at Power Up then Windows XP logo then Black Screen

Hi there.  I have the same problem.  My screen is black all the time now with odd spurts of light occuring just after loading. My laptop is sadly out of guarantee so I cannot get any telephone help from IBM, however the chap I spoke to did hint that it was a problem with the LCD cable. Then I phoned my local PC repair man and he said it sounds like the bulb, because I can still faintly see the outline of whats on the screen through the "blackness". So.  Not sure! Have you come to any resolution yet?  Meantime I have my laptop pluggged into an external monitor until I get it fixed.  Susan

Furthermore it doesn't present the problem until next boot. I cannot enter BIOS or Boot Mený due to this problem. See the attached video to understand the problem better. Thanks all in advance.

Hi everyone,

I've been getting the BSD repeatedly when using flash video sites such as Hulu or Youtube. I have no problem when running video card intense applications such as Black Ops or Starcraft II (even for prolonged time), but about 10-20 minutes of watching videos would cause the BSD to happen.

The relevant dump file is attached (which unfortunately I cannot attach..)

I am running on an ASUS laptop, with the Mobility Raedon 5730

Thanks!!

Answer:Mobility Raedon HD 5730 causing repeated Blue screen

Welcome to Seven Forums
First off you didn't attach the dump file.
Secondly you should probably download GPUZ |MG| GPU-Z 0.5.1 Download so you can monitor your temps.

I also noticed you haven't listed your PSU your going to want to find out if it has enough power to run the card and accessories. You can pull off the side cover and should be able to read the ratings off it.

Here is a good guide to go by Planning to upgrade your Graphics Card? Read First... For what Power supply you'll need.

Also you might want to make sure you have the latest Adobe Flash player downloaded,
Adobe - Install a different version of Adobe Flash Player

Then make sure you include your dump file in your next post.

Answer:Lenovo G50-30 : getting black screen after lenovo logo

Hi zoheb_syed ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Doing factory reset would delete everything and repartitioned with new Windows on it just like out of the box .
Lenovo splash screen is a good sign that power goes in the computer and the devices required for a working machine.
For as long as you back up your files , try doing the Lenovo Restore using the Novo key (no.2 page 9).
Just turn off the pc and use the Novo button to turn it on . Novo menu would give the System Recovery

Soon as done , create a local account and proceed.
If it goes to a black screen during the process , I recommend you call in tech support for repair.
Most likely there would be a problem with the GPU since rendering on Windows failed.
You can also check the display on any external monitor to see if the display would work externally to isolate LCD or cable issue .
If the computer finish up with the restoration then run Lenovo diagnostics.

Tech support can give you repair options or if BIOS update is neccessary .
Best check on your warranty for the type of repair service you would expect (either sending to depot or Onsite repair)
Considering the turn around time of the repair , which I know that you need it on a daily basis for work  Try above step and let us see how it works.

Hope this helped you get things done on your issue.

My kid has been using this laptop and loved it, but mentioned a while ago it was difficult to power it back on after turnned it off. However she managed to work around by putting it in hibernate/sleeping mode only, or recycling the system many times (by holding on power button to force it off). The issue was black screen (no Lenovo logo) but computer was on. I didn't pay much attention because she can still make it work, and I was too busy. Last week, there was a windows update (again) and the computer was forced recycle. It never comes back alive again. The same, computer is humming, but no any visual output on screen, just black. Tried novo button, bootable USB, external monitor, all no use. Check the warranty, just over by 2 months! Asked the service store, to fix will cost at least $200-$300 to replace the motherboard! It does not make sense when spent a bit more could buy a new notebook. But my kid liked it and it does not make sense to throw it away either, when it still looks pretty new and only being used very lightly (schoolwork only). It is sad, especially the brand has been gainning my trust. I probably don't expect a "good" solution either from Lenovo or community, but just throw my frustration here (only because have just registered the account and there is no support email or web form). If Lenovo want to make customer happy, the part shouldn't be so expensive for a short-lived laptop! Just by the way, there are many posts about Ideapad's black screen i... Read more

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of all the problems.  Here are a couple of things to try........

First, try a reset of the BIOS.  The procedure can be useful in resolving some hardware conflicts which your computer may have.  Just do this......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If you are comfortable working inside your laptop. try this........

Try the reset again with the battery removed.

If the reset didn't resolve the problem then you may have a failed piece of hardware preventing the bootup. Remove the battery, hard drive, optical drive, memory, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. Now try to power up the stripped laptop. With all the hardware removed you should have lights come on and it may possibly beep since there is no memory installed. If the laptop is showing signs of life start adding hardware one piece at a time starting with a memory module and boot up the laptop. If it doesn't power up try the memory in the other slot. Also try the other memory module separately in both slots if two are available. If it is still showing signs of life add another piece and boot. Do this for each item until it doesn't power up again. The last piece of hardware installed is your problem part.

I am using G410 lenovo laptop. Windows 8.1I always use 'Power Button' to hibernate cos it's start and switch off much faster.I always use AC adapter and only use battery when necessary. It's was working fine until a few days ago when I press power button, and nothing is on screen, totally black and blank. Sometimes I only see the word "lenovo" then blank / black screen.1) What I did was hold the power button for a long time till it power off, then I waited for 5 mins then power on, few days ago that worked, but last night it didn't.I kept doing the same thing last night but it didn't work, I also tried just pressing the power buttton and waited and I felt it went to hibernate, cos I've done that a billion times. So, I figured it was the display problem.2) Today, I decided to plug the VGA cable to my desktop monitor and thank God, it showed my laptop screen on my desktop monitor, so I am very sure something is up with my laptop screen. What I did was to restart the laptop and thank God again, the display came out on my laptop, so then...3) I change the "what the power button will do", I've selected "Shut down" instead hoping that if it shuts down and power up my display will show.Question:Will I have to get my laptop monitor checked?Should all data in my laptop should also be backed up?cos I will need to buy a big external hard disk now.. Answer:Lenovo G410 Laptop Blank Screen Black Screen Problem

It sounds like either the LCD cable or Backlight are needing to be checked, and possibly replaced.  This is not somthing most users can easily accomplish and would require the unit be sent to a service center for diagnosis and repair.

I would advise contacting Lenovo Support via phone and determine the nearest service center that you can use, then get a quote.

Previously it showed Blue Screen every time I boot my Y460; few seconds after the Window Logo. No matter how many times I reformate, it still showing Blue Screen, indicating STOP 0x00000116 and atikmpag.sys error. Subsequently, I went into the BIOS and changed the settings on the graphics switchable to discrete graphics. However its getting worst now because there is no display (totally black with no background light) every time I on my y460. Hence I need assistance and solutions, thanks.

I have looked through the board and also seen this issue mentioned previously in this thread, where the OP also mentioned other users with this issue. I don't have much hope for a resolution, but I thought I'd post just in case someone would be able to provide additional insight. I purchased my U410 (no touch) in the Lenovo Outlet about 1.5 years ago refurbished, and it was working like a dream for the most part until this incident. I noticed yesterday evening that as I was using Chrome, my computer began to slow down drastically between switching tabs in the browser and applications on the bar, until the computer completely froze. Thinking it was just a regular crash, I held down the button for 30+ at which time the screen did not darken. After leaving it for a couple of minutes, I tried again and pulled out the power outlet and it finally powered down. When I powered the computer up again, the screen was backlit and I could hear the fans running, but no visual output. I also do not see the Lenovo logo screen, so I have no option to boot to BIOS. Troubleshooting already performed:I have performed the following troubleshooting tests:- Powering on / off- Powering off after disconnecting the power source / powering on with the source plugged in Troubleshooting not already performed:- BIOS, because I cannot see the Lenovo screen on startup- taking out the battery, because it is encased in the back, so I would have to take th... Answer:U410 Black Screen / No Visual Output, No Lenovo Screen on startup

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Try unplugging the charger and then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.  After you are done then plug in the charger if needed and see if the laptop will power up normally.

If it didn't, anything else beyond what I mentioned above will require the opening of the back of the computer and the removal of various hardware components to try and remedy the problem.  If you are looking into your credit card's extended warranty then further disassembly of the laptop may not be something you wish to do.

For local service on your laptop try the locator website.  After entering in your city and checking the box for Warranty Service Provider you can then search for a local Lenovo authorized service repair center near you.  Just use this link to find a local facility.....

Hi!  I do have trouble with a Lenovo Flex 2-14 (Model 20404).The Lenovo turns on, shows the Levono Boot screen and finishes with a black screen.  - I am able to enter the Bios (working screen)- I am able to run the internal recovery with a working screen - after recovery and a new boot up - the screens gets black again  How is that possible? I am not able to boot from a usb-stick (with working Linux or Windows installation - tested on other systems) cause I get a black screen (the USB is being recognized).  So... what are the next steps? This seems wierd, since the screen itself seems to work. I found some forum-topics saying it is a GPU-failure. Maybe thats the case?  I would appreciate any support!

Answer:Lenovo X201 laptop black screen and LCD screen doesn't detect after booting windows

This is then due to inverter from screen that has stopped working, it controls the backlight part of LCD/LED screen when it breaks it cause the backlight to turn off and wont go on so you would need to have inverter re-placed with a new one. Here is a example of how it looks like: it may look diffirent on each model but this is just an example from a T41 from lenovo.

Please help. My Ideapad has basically stopped working.  My operating system is Windows 7 Home Edition.  A few days ago, my computer froze up and I got the blue Windows screen that says: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.  A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated..."  The blue screen went on to say that I should restart Windows with safe-mode and remove any recently added programs.  I did this and I believe I successfully removed Java, which is the only new software I updated recently (although I wish I had not).  I was also able to restore my computer to about a week before the crash. However, only rarely am I able to get windows to start again at all, whether in safe mode or not.  I'd say 4 out of 5 times, I am seeing the Lenovo boot-up screen for about 3 minutes, and then I get a black screen that says the following: Intel UNDI.  PXE-2.1 (build 082)Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation This Product is covered by one or more of the following patents:US5,307,459, US5,434,872, US5,732, US6,570,884, US6,115,776 andUS6,327,625 Realtek PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller Series v2.26 (090219)PXE-E61:  Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F:  Exiting PXE ROMOperating system not found That message repeats itself if I press any key, and if I press the power button the... Answer:lenovo b460e lapton screen just bright black screen

Hi valasudurai .

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have a display on the BIOS ( use the Onekey button  page 1-2 to turn on for BIOS setup)  screen ?

Try to power drain first , turning off and removing the ac adapter and battery then prss down power for 20 seconds and restart . Any changes?

As external monitor works ok , most likely it would be the LCD and / or cable is the point of failure and reseating the cable is done first.  This would require technical know how and tools . best try to check for warranty coverage and call in tech support for the inwarranty repair needed .

Hello everyone,Recently, I got a Lenovo yoga 14(with Nvidia Geforce 940m and intel(R) HD Graphics 5500) on windows 10. I have one problem with it which is the screen flickers on and off if I have software such as store, bing news, google chrome and microsoft word open on maximised screen. I've tried turning down the resolution, turning of panel self-refresh and updating the video drivers, but it didn't work. Also I've noticed that when the screen is flickering the mouse moves back to the centre of the screen. Instead of pushing the maximised button, if I drag the borders of the software window and make it full screen, it doesn't flicker at all. Some advice would be much appreaciated, Roger
