Preferred Solution: can't see my gobi 1000 in device manager

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: can't see my gobi 1000 in device manager

@Isic? Please try Qualcomm Mobile Broadband Drivers - Gobi1000 for Windows 7: Regards.

Flash the latest BIOS to your system, even if you already have it. This fixed an issue I had with not being able to turn my Gobi on.

In device Manager, an entry for Other devices, with a sub-entry for Unknown device, each with a yellow question-mark. The only information I can find is for the Unkown Device, which, under Properties, says :

root\legacy_lavasoft_ ad-aware_service\1000 device manager
What is this, and should I disable it? As best as I can tell, I do not have AdAware running on my computer.

I've Gobi 1000 card installed on T400 running Windows Vists 64. The card is not yet activiated to use with a service provider but I came to know that it offers GPS function. Does anyone how to enable the GPS function? Thanks

Answer:Qualcomm Gobi 1000 and GPS

You need to install Thinkvantage GPS software, but without phone provider, it will work like a stand-alone GPS (outside with line-of-sight to satellites).

So during our image building process for the Lenovo T410s we discovered that the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Mobile Broadband Device 9205 is not compatible with AT&T Communication Manager version 7.2 The Lenovo Access Connections software must be used in order to connect to AT&T.  We create our own custom image for our laptops here and try to keep bloatware to a minimum. The Ericsson F3507g card which we use on our X301 work with the AT&T Communication Manager. Is there any particular reason why a mobile broadband card was chosen for the T410s that is not compatible with a carrier's own connectivity software?

Answer:T410s - Gobi 2000 HS-USB 9205 incompatibility with AT&T Communication Manager

Note that you don't need either  Communication Manager or Access Connections if running Windows 7. A 'non-bloatware' solution is to just use the GOBI drivers from the Lenovo site and Windows itself.

Dear all I have a x201 and build in a Gobi 2000. If I connect via Sim card, the connection is always "GPRS" only, even though there are faster connections like edge and 3g available. What should I do? How can I change the connection to be faster? Thanks a lot in advance!

What connection manager do you use? If it's an Access Connection there is prefered network type settings within profile settings.

Hello, I'm experiencing massive problems with the BIOS versions newer than the 1.10a release. As soon as I apply the two newer versions 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW), the WWAN device Gobi 2000 isn't listed any more in the device manager and a connection using this device isn't possible any more. The newest Access Connections states that the device isn't found.Applying the setup defaults after updating the BIOS doesn't resolve the problem. Searching the internet shows, that multiple people are struggling with this problem. As soon as I roll back to the 1.10a (6XET31WW) BIOS version, the problem doesn't exist any more. System details:* Thinkpad Model: 2876-27G* all newest thinkpad/thinkvantage packages installed* all currently available windows updates installed* Working BIOS: 1.10a (6XET31WW)* Problem causing BIOS: 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW) Regards,rotorhead

Answer:X100e BIOS Problems with WWAN Device Gobi 2000

Hello rotorhead, welcome to Lenovo forums!
Please try this:
1. In BIOS under "Security" / "IO Port Access" disable the devices "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN" 2. Reboot 3. Shut down the machine completely. 4. Go into BIOS and enable "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN"
If that doesn´t work please uninstall WWAN-driver, Access Connection und Hot key driver, then install first the hotkey driver, AC and WWAN driver.

Could anyone tell me the difference between Gobi 2000 and Gobi 3000? Thank you

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Driver signing? Or Bios whitelist?Any help much obliged

Hi, eyeland
Do you have a SIM card inserted in the machine? If not, this will be needed for WWAN access. Also, which version of Windows are you running, and what drivers did you download to get the card to work?
Thanks in advance,Adam

Two of my USB external Hard drives, a Fantom 600 GB and a Western Digital My Book 500GB cannot be seen in My Computer. I can see them in Device Manager and that says that they are working properly and the drivers are up to Date. In Disk Manager the 2 external drives had a black bar unlike the other drives which had blue bars. The 2 external disks had a number assigned to them but no letter.

I have tried diskpart in the command prompt, was able to assign a letter, then had to format the drives and they did show up in My computer as valid empty external hard drives with the correct amount of space on them. But when I tried to recover the backed up data for one of the disks (less than a third of the capacity of either drive) they went back to not being recognized by My Computer ans in disk manager had a black line with no letter again.

I just went through that process again, got both drives back and tried to recover the backed up files to my Fantom drive and lost the Fantom drive once again.

I am attaching screen shots of my current My Computer (Computer in 7) Device Manager and Disk Manager. In Device Manager you can see the Fantom. The My Book is the WD 5000AAV. In Disk Manager the My Book shows healthy with Disk 1 and the letter L. The Fantom is Disk 2 with no letter and a black bar. In My computer, the My Book is there but not the Fantom.

Any ideas for this. I am about to just recover my computer to factory setup and start new. I have sa... Read more

Answer:External drives show in Device Manager & Disk Manager but not Computer

Hi Dick1030,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Please do as follows:

1. It is unusual for the System Reserved Partition to have a drive letter. Please remove the drive letter.

2. Please remove (always Safely Remove) all the external drives including any card reader and do a drive cleanup as indicated here. It will clean your system of all non-present devices and you will be starting with a clean slate.(Incidentally this can resolve many drive letter assignment confusion of Windows OS, as you can see in the referenced thread.)

3. After you reboot on completion of the drive cleanup, plugin only your WD My Book and the Fantom drive. As you plug-in the driver for each device will be installed ab-initio. You can watch it.

4. Now take a screenshot of the Disk Management and post. While taking the screenshot, click on "Show/Hide Console Tree” and “Show/Hide Action Pane” buttons on the toolbar on top to hide those and also pull up the center partition line up as much as possible so that we get a clear and full view.

5. Also tell us whether you are sure that you had formatted the Fantom drive and it contains data and whether you want to recover the data..

(Your statements and the screenshots are so confusing - atleast to me - it is necessary that you do the above and restate the problem.)

Yesterday, I started a download and kept the pc on with my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex External HDD 1TB plugged in. After I woke up I realized that there was a power cut and the computer went off unexpectadly (I had no UPS or any backup system). And, I found that my Ext HDD was not seen in my computer anymore (It was working perfectly until before I went to bed).
In device manager, under 'Disks' it shows 'GoFlex Hard Disk', but in BIOS or Disk Manager there is no sign of this HDD.

I really need the data in the HDD badly. Please help me recover it.
P.S. I read somewhere that keeping the HDD in freezer might help and give a little more time. Is that true? Worth the risk?

Answer:External HDD gets detected in Device Manager but not Disk Manager or seen in 'My Computer'

Power outage probably killed something in the enclosure or its PSU. The drive in the enclosure is probably fine. I would remove the drive from the enclosure and put it in a dock or install it in a desktop computer before considering freezing it. Freezing is usually reserved for click of death drives, and a last ditch effort.

The AUDIO FADE PROBLEM is an issue with this laptop and I am wondering if it is related to the above.
I have upgraded to the latest BIOS and drivers using the Dell Product Support pages.
Every other day I have to reinstall the Realtek Audio Device to get audio from streaming media.
The current Driver Version is from Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Date 12/08/2016 which is what it defaults to upon reinstall.
I suspect that for whatever reason Dell has not yet come up with a fix. Has it something to do with the fact that although I bought the laptop new, it had been upgraded from Windows 8 to 10? (A fact that I only discovered later)

I'm trying to fix an hp pavillion dv6704nr laptop running windows vista home premium. It has the little red x on the speaker in the lower right hand corner. The owner said it has been there for some months. I have tried downloading the current audio drivers for the computer but every time I try to install the driver, I get an error that says the device couldn't be found.

The first time i restarted the computer, after the driver installation failed, the audio came back and worked fine, until I had to restart the computer. Now I keep getting the same error and nothing i have found so far online has helped.

There are no yellow triangles in the device manager and the device list isn't showing the category for "sound, video and gaming etc." at all.

Please help. I did a search but the other threads didn't solve this problem for me.
Thanks in advance.

I see three different audio driver packages at need to find the right one to install. If you install one and the system doesn't work properly...please uninstall it before trying the next one.Installing the wrong one won't do anything harmful to your just won't do any good to leave it installed.Louis

hey manugautam000,welcome to the forums, disable to camera from device manager and remove the current driver installed to it.reboot your unit, re-enable the camera. windows should then install its own generic drivers.test your camera with the generic drivers.later on, head to , download the latest camera driver for your unit. set your unit to diagnostic mode via msconfig and then install.

Dell Vostro 1400, Core2Duo. Installed Windows 7 64 bit a year and a half ago. For those not familiar, the Vostro is not entirely compatible with 64 bit, so the drivers are a little hit and miss.

Computer runs slow sometimes, has since the install. I don't think I've ever seen the yellow triangles before, but I may have never looked at the device manager ... the computer is a secondary machine in the house.

My question is, do these indicate a performance problem or can I ignore them and assume the computer is working as best it can?

Answer:Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

please check out this webpage. it may help you to get started: Device Manager - yellow exclamation point

The yellow icons showing an exclamation point can indicate missing or improper drivers. The system does not seem to recognizing your hardware. Hope this gets you started.

Answer:Lenovo Solution Center Shows Unknown Device But Device Manager Doesn't

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to inform that it is a false indication from Lenovo solution center. Since Windows doesn?t detect any missing device drivers within the device manager, there is no driver that is missing.
If the warning keeps popping up, change the reminder settings to ?never?. Probably, you have to wait for an LSC update in which the bug would be fixed.
Refer here for further information regarding the issue.
Hope it helped!

We have a Tablet M700, which was supplied with Vista, but reverted to XP using the supplied re-installation disk.

The machine works fine for the most part, but occasionally suffers from a lockup, which appears to be related to the touchscreen.

Examination in the device manager reveals five generic "HID-Compliant device" which appear to be duplicates for five other entries in this section - the other entries appear to be the correct devices as they have specific names - "Toshiba tablet buttons type N" "USB Human interface device" "Virtual Touch Driver" "Virtual touch interface" and "Wacom Penabled dual touch" - if the properties of each device are inspected, the settings under "Driver" "Details" and "Resources" are identical.

I have tried to remove the redundant entries by deleting in normal and safe modes, but the devices re-appear.

Is there a way I can remove these entries and eliminate a conflict between these elements as a source of the lockups.

Many thanks

Answer:Portege M700: device manager reveals five generic HID-Compliant device

Usually there shouldn?t be a resources conflict between these different devices.
The Windows OS should assign automatically different resources if it would be needed.

> I have tried to remove the redundant entries by deleting in normal and safe modes, but the devices re-appear.

You can disable the single device in device manager.
You have to mark firstly the device and then have to disable it using the option ?Disable?.
It?s a red circle with the small PC.

Hi Malware Specialist!

I started out in the "Am I infected?" Forum and a junior specialist sent me here to get further help, here is the link to the 4 logs I ran for him:

For several days I have been trying to complete the preliminary steps required by this forum, I can not back up to windows/microsoft program (Backup Configuration not valid 0X8100029), but hopefully the two other programs I used were successful, namely cobaine and driveimage. At the end of the driveimage session, it frozen and there was "Globalroot\device" followed by various endings. Then it completed and said finished. Also it went to blue screen the firsttime I tried to run GMER and rebooted.

The main problems of slow programs from startup, no devices in device manager, no audio device and no printing capability began after I ran some kids software games that kinda of frozen the computer, although I believe whatever is making my computer upset has been there for awhile and may have something to do with remnants of roxio 2009 and other shared folders. In services it says "Configuration Manager machine selected for remote communication is not available at this time."

I'm having a printer installation issue.  I have Win XP and am trying to install a Canon MP830 All-in-one printer.  I've worked on this for weeks and usually 3 to 5 hrs. a day.  I had some help from computer gurus and still not fixed.  Basically, as soon as the power button on the printer is turned on and the printer is connected to the PC with the 2.0 USB cable the PC will lagg on any operation.  A friend recently told me to manually delete any old drivers that may be in the system.  This was the best approach so far because, I found a web page that explained how to delete possible other printer drivers in the PC.  I deleted the files and then downloaded and installed the driver from the Canon website which took longer than normal.  At least the drivers did load and in the Start... printers & Faxes the drivers were listed and in ready mode.  In Device manager the Canon Mp830 printer was listed under image device.  The printer worked fine!  I printed from word and the web with no problems.  As soon as I do a reboot the system will lag terribly if the printer is on and pluged into the USB.  I then have to shut down and leave the printer powered off so I can boot up the PC normally.  I have noticed when I did reboot and the printer is off and USB cable connected the system boots up perfectly but....In the Device Manager there is NO IMAGE DEVICE listed or my MP830 printer.  Can someone help ... Question One! ~~~ I have a USB to XLR studio microphone converter, the Blue Icicle that's not working correctly anymore! Very odd. It worked before, than I reformatted my entire computer and it had stopped working. I have not tried the device on another computer yet. I updated my BIOS to latest version, installed for the most part important drivers. The Blue Icicle is not supposed to have any downloaded or installed drivers besides it's basic ones. When I try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers from device manager, but to no avail.

The Blue Icicle+AT2020 XLR Mic doesn't appear at all!

Uninstalling from device manager and re-plugging in the Blue Icicle still leads to trouble, saying the installation failed. I also tried download the device drivers of USB Multi-Channel Audio Device from CNET, yet to NO FIX.

Question Two! ~~~ I am still confused on how to install certain drivers on my desktop aswell, that you usually install on a motherboard's manufacturer website that doesn't have a setup or install, but usually contain only .txt and .bat files. I'm not dumb when it comes to computers but this has me stumped for hours now.

My 7270 latitude touch screen stopped working shortly after first use (after win update worked again but for a short time).
All drivers are up to date.
In device manager a USB device shows as unknown (yellow warning triangle), otherwise there are no indications to the source of the problem.  There is no other touch screen device showing in device manager.
How do I perminently solve this?

Hello Fellow Geekers,

I am really at my wits end trying to find out what is going on with my new laptop and its hardware, Its a brand new Acer Aspire V3-571G Laptop, the 2GB Dedicated NVidia GeForce 640M GPU, Alongside the normal Intel HD 4000 Display Adaptor.

Overall, I like the laptop, but I cannot seem to fix this Base System Device issue, I have gone to Acers website and downloaded EVERY driver their is, and installed every single one that is required by my system specification, however, the base system device error just wont disappear, I have tried searching high and low with google, to see if I can find anyone else with the same or similar issue, but absolutely no luck, it gets to me that much after spending countless hours and nights trying to study the problem, that I eventually have to stop, and walk away for a while and leave it alone, otherwise I will probably break the basted thing, its annoying me that much, I am just hoping its not a defective issue with the laptops mainboard or something.

Also, I cannot flash my BIOS, I tried doing that using the latest BIOS image offered by Acer for my specific model laptop, but it says its not for an BIOS Upgrade, which I don't quite understand, but I tried flashing anyway, no luck, the bios is still dated for early 2012.

I am running Windows 8 Professional (Legit Version from MS) and I have applied ALL system updates via MS Windows Update.

Does anyone know what it could be? or any suggestion on trying to fin... Read more

I had some trouble last night and today with getting rid of a virus. Now that it is gone, I am having sound problems (maybe related, maybe not). This morning, when I opened iTunes I got a message that there was no audio device detected. After trying several things, I rebooted. Magically, I could play music again. However, a short while later, I again got an error message telling me that there is no audio device found, even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly. The problem goes away for a short time after I reboot, but returns. It is Realtek AC 97. Why won't my computer keep recognizing it?

(It tried going to Realtek's site to download an update. It has updates for Windows 98, 95, etc., but not for XP. Or at least I couldn't find it.)

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

Oh and is it appropriate for me to use this topic to ask another question regarding explorer.exe as while i am inside a folder i delete (by choosing delete from the context menu in the tree view) while inside that folder on this particular laptop PC explorer. always crashes, collect information, sends it and restarts explorer. This post poses a SERIES of many questions. Please try to help, greatly appreciated. I've been scratching my head with this for days now and finally reached out for help..

I am just hoping with someone who has had similar problems with their computers to be able to aid me. I'm not sure if this information will be of any aid but this is my current motherboard

I'm trying to set up the SD card reader on my Portege 2000 running Windows XP operating system.

I have downloaded and installed the common modules and my BIOS does not need updating.

I have downloaded the SD host controller driver, but can not install it as I have no base system device in device manager as per the read me.

How do I get this so I can enable my SD card reader?

Thanks, happy New Year

Answer:Portege 2000: How to add base system device in device manager?

Base system device is usually the SD Card Controller. If you just install that it should fix the problem.
The SD host controller driver should be installed first. After installing the SD host controller driver, you can install the SD memory card driver. The driver can be installed as follows:

SD host controller driver,
1. From [Start] menu, select the [Settings], then click on the [Control Panel].
2. Double-click on [System] and choose the [Hardware] tab.
3. Click on [Device Manager].
4. Double-click on [Base System Device].
5. Choose the [Driver] tab and click on the [Update Driver] button.
6. Click on [Next] and choose [Display a list of the known drivers...].
7. Click on [Next] and select [Network adapters] in [Hardware types].
8. Choose the [Have Disk] button.
9. Locate the folder "{CD-drive}: Windows XP Pro\Toshiba SD Host Controller Driver" and follow the instructions on the screen.
10. Finally, restart the Windows

For SD memory card driver,

After installing SD host controller driver,
1. Insert the SD memory card in the SD slot.
2. OS detects it and starts to install the SD memory card driver.
3. Specify the inf file ({CD-drive}: Windows XP Pro\Toshiba SD Memory Card Driver) and forward the setup process.
4. Copy the SDDEVMGR.dll file under the Windows System directory.
Note that System directory means \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 for Windows XP.

Hello there!

I would be very grateful for any help/hints if somebody has an idea what to do....

My gf has the above mentioned laptop (w/o preinstalled OS) and we can not get the display adapter to work properly - situation is as follows

1) mobile intel 4 series express chipset family and an unknown device with a question mark in device manager
2) both are on the same PCI BUS 0, device 2?
3) intel is not working because it has no free resources (should I delete the unknown device?) to work with
4) HW ID for the unknown device is pci ven_8086&dev_2A43 and for intel is pci ven_8086&dev_2A42 (so basically the same, right?)
5) last, but not least, if I go to Desktop-personalize-advanced (first of all no 1280*800 resolution) i see under adapter type: . Exactly, nothing... under properties, this appears: non plug and play device, Super VGA and under driver, I see just the status and option to Stop, Disable, Automatic, Demand.... the device on startup... .If i disable it, the display just does not light up when the laptop is turned on....
Any ideas? I am going insaneeeeee......

Vista Home Premium, all other Toshiba SW installed (value pack, intel, BIOS 1.9, etc... - maybe BIOS did this?!)

Thanks in advance!!!

p.s. maybe SP1 that I am installing now will help?!

Answer:Satellite L300 PSLBGE - Unknown device in device manager

Wait a moment: I have checked Vendor ID and Device ID on and this device is the Intel graphic card. So I think this is the reason why you can?t change the screen resolution.

I assume that you have forgotten to install the display driver. Check the Toshiba website because there you can download the driver: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

After this you shouldn?t have any exclamation marks anymore.

You can install SP1 for Vista but this will not solve the problem with the missing display driver. But you should install it because it contains a lot of security updates they are important. Furthermore I would recommend to install SP2 for Vista.

Not sure which forum category I should use, thus using software (for Driver Problems).  Various times to fix a device you can go into Device Manager  and uninstall the driver, go to top of page click on Actions and click on Search For New Devices.  I am under the impression this will uninstall the device driver, then reinstall the exact same driver (code).  Why does this work?  It appears that the exact same code is now reinstalled and many times fixes a problem.  I have used this technique on mouse driver, internet driver, keyboard driver.  THis is a good and easy first process to try and make a quick fix.
Again, I am just trying to figure out why it works - I know I am missing something.  As an ex-programmer trying to figure out why the same code now will work when it had stopped working.
Why or under what circumstances does the driver code stop working, and then why does a reinstall of it at times lets it start working again.

The drivers can become corrupted, which is why a re-install will fix the problems. As to how they get corrupted, that's anyone's guess...

i have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1

but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it.

i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update.

i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.

i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it..

i would be greatful if any1 could help me on this..

In my opinion this device has something to do with chipset and therefore you have to install the Intel chipset driver. You can download all drivers on official Toshiba website:

Check also the exact vendor and device ID in device manager to identify this device. The PCI database website can help you to do this:

Hi everybody.

I just bought myself a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 yesterday. After installing the card and the required drivers everything works like a charm. However, every time I start up my PC I get a message saying that a new device has been found on my system. On checking Device Manager I found an "Unknown device" entry under "Other devices".

I'm attaching a screenshot of Device Manager.

Are there any drivers I'm missing? It only happened after removing my old card (after uninstalling all its drivers) and installing the Radeon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Unknown Device In Device Manager After Installing Radeon HD 4890

I have a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 (I also have a Gigabyte 4890 and XFX 4890 in two other PCs). I think you need to install the latest ATI Catalyst Suite. You may have installed the driver only package. Anyway, I think it has to do with the HDMI capabilities of the card. High def sound is built into the card (the HD part of the card name) and the HD sound driver is part of the Catalyst Suite. When you use an HDMI cable to an appropriate display, HD sound is also transmitted through the same cable from the Radeon graphics card.

Of course, be sure to install .NET Framework 2.0 as it is required before you can install the full Catalyst Suite. The HD sound driver won't install without it. At least I had trouble before I installed .NET 3.5. I went to Windows Update and installed .NET Framework 3.5. 2.0 is included in that update and 2.0 wasn't available separately.

I recently put together a new computer, and in the process of of installing the USB 3.0 connector from the front of my GX500 case, I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB 3.0 header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse. Anyway, that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable.
Since I don't really need the USB 3.0 functionality, I bought a USB 3.0 -> 2.0 adapter cable, connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB 2.0/1.1 header on the motherboard. Unfortunately, when Windows 7 boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case, Windows detects the front USB ports as "Unknown Device" within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed. I've already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard, deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers, and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it's just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB 2.0/1.1 ports via the adapter cable.  I've tried both USB 2.0/1.1 headers on the motherboard, and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports, and this problem still persists.
I've ensured the connection inside the case is solid, yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports.  However, I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via m... Read more

In the list USB Composite Device doesn't mean much but matching the ID seems to indicate that it's the webcam.

hi i would like to know
i would like to enable or disable a device from device manager without opening device manger is there maybe a script or a shortcut

Answer:shortcut to enable or disable device in device manager

DevCon (Devcon.exe), the Device Console, is a command-line tool that displays detailed information about devices on computers running Windows. You can use DevCon to enable, disable, install, configure, and remove devices.
DevCon runs on Microsoft Windows 2000 and later versions of Windows.

I haven't tried it myself but with DevCon(Windows Device Console) you should be able to do that. You don't have to install the WDK as that page says. Here's a solution to extract only devcon.exe from the installer:
Where to find DevCon.exe - The Deployment Guys - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

And here's examples of how to use it: Device Console (DevCon.exe) Examples (Windows Drivers)

Let us know how it goes or if you need help.

I recently tried switching from a USB wireless headset to a audio jack set of headphones, only to realize none of the outputs on my PC are working. I checked the device manager and the only audio devices listed are my GPU and 'intel display audio'... my mobo's audio device isn't listed there so i'm guessing this is the reason none of the outputs are working.

Anyone know a way around this? I only noticed this after installing windows 10.

Answer:Mobo audio device isn't listed in device manager

Looks like you have posted a picture but i can not access it.
What mobo do you have? you should be able to download the drivers from the mobo manufacturer's site.
but first try Start - Power - Restart (not shutdown) this sometimes forces windows to see hardware and install new drivers.

It WinXP Pro + SP 3.
In Device Manager display, as an unknown device. Try all drivers, who were on a disk along with the laptop, nothing helps. Give the solution!

Answer:Re: Satellite 5200-701: Unknown device in the device manager.

who should give you THE SOLUTION? I mean, you tried all drivers and nothing did installed... So, does your machine run properly? Does some device not work like it should?

Please check this firstly before installing all drivers without any success. Try to guess which device it could be, so then we can search for some solution.
A good beginning would be to check the device in the device manager and write some of the information which is contained in the Properties window of the device.
Please post the details which are in the properties of the device, maybe someone here in the forum can find out which device won?t work.

I assume also that the SP3 makes some problems, so another good option would be to deinstall the SP3 and go back to SP2.

Webcam was working a week ago. Suddenly Skype cannot detect my web cam . I went to Device Manager , selected the web cam under Imaging devices , then uninstalled the driver . Then went back to Device Manager and scanned for hardware changes. Now even the Imaging Device category is missing. Tried Hardware troubleshoot , resetting Camera etc . no luck.

Computer is an old Sony Vaio BGC-JS190D running latest update Windows 10.

Why is the category Imaging Devices not showing up in Device manager?

Does this mean my web cam is dead? Will installing a ext webcam fix the problem ?

Hi there,I recently installed Win7 Home Premium on my Dell Inspiron 1525 which previously ran WinVista Home Premium (both are 32-bit.)However, in Device Manager, there are two devices named as; Base System Device, each with an (!) mark for them. When I dig deeper to see what these devices are, I get the following name for each of them;1) PCI, bus 2, device 9, function 3 and,2) PCI, bus 2, device 9, function 4When I then look at the Physical Object's Name, I get this;1) Device\NTPNP_PCI0024 and, 2) Device\NTPNP_PCI0023I'm not really sure what is going on! I tried using Win Updates to find the drivers, but it cannot find anything. I have a feeling that they may be devices for the integrated webcam and the card reader; however, I know I installed a driver for the card reader, so I am not sure what the other device is for... :sAny help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.J

Answer:Unknown Device Base System in Device Manager.

One more yellow ? to go.  Thanks to the good advice rampant on this forum, I was able to figure out how to install the other drivers I needed.   This last one is messing with my mind tho.  It's unfair for a problem to not even have a name, doncha think?   About all I can fathom about this 'Unknown device' is its location:  'on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller'. I tried the driver for 'Embedded Controller' and when I double click, it takes over the computer and tells me not to shut it down and begins installing 49 fixes.  When I did it, the program got to the 21st fix, and that was as far as it would go.  I shut down the computer after about 20 minutes.  It did not remove the 'Unknown device' remark in Device Manager. What's a poor boy to do? Also, Windows is taking forever to load. This was not the case yesterday.  Thanks for all your help. 50GreenDodge in Phoenix

Answer:What is my 'Unknown device' in Device Manager? - ThinkPad T40 2374-75U

Hello, Have you tried installing the Lenovo System Update software to see if that detects any missing device drivers and offers to install it for you? The latest versions for your ThinkPad T40 Model 2374-75U can be found here on Lenovo's web site. If if that does not work, you could try going back into the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC), selecting the Unknown Device to view its properties and then go to the Details tab, where you should see several values listed in the property sheet for things like "Device Description", "Hardware IDs",  "Compatible IDs" and so forth.  Try using these as search terms in your favorite search engine to see if doing so leads you to a more detailed description of the device, including a manufacturer, brand, model or part number. Once you have that information, it may be easier to find the appropriate device driver for the unrecognized hardware. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

If you have ever wanted to change that boring "HID-compliant Mouse" title to something more descriptive, this tutorial is for you. The name of any device can be modified with this method and can help you organize your devices better in Device Manager.

First, open Device Manager by opening a run prompt (Windows Key + R) and typing devmgmt.msc. You can also access the Device Manager via the Control Panel.

Next, find the device that you want to change the name of. Since I want to change the name of my "HID-compliant Mouse", I will look for that. The devices are organized nicely into categories, so you shouldn't have any issues finding the right one.

Right click on the device and select Properties. Then go to the Details tab and pick "Driver key" from the dropdown list. Copy the value by right clicking it and selecting "Copy".

Open the Registry Editor by opening a run prompt and typing regedit. Grant administrator privileges if prompted to do so.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet001 > Enum

Right click on the Enum key and select "Permissions...".

On the screen that appears, click "Add..."

In the "Enter the object names to select" text field, type the name of the user currently logged into the computer. For instance, my username is "Brandon" so I type Brandon and press the "Check Names" box. If entered correctly, the rest will be filled ... Read more

I've made a fresh, clean install of Windows XP on my toshiba portege m200 (tablet). I've got most of the devices drivers installed, but there's one that I can't figure out. Device Manager says I have an "unknown device" on my "Intel 82801 dbm lpc interface controller".

What is it? I thought it was the chipset, but I had installed the Intel chipset drivers (twice, just to make sure I had really done it), but it still reads as "unknown device" on "Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC Interface Controller - 24CC ".

Answer:Portege M200 - Unkown device in device manager

To fix this problem go to device manager, right click on the unknown device and select update driver.
When the hardware update wizard comes up, select the advance option.
On the next window, select the "Do not Search. I will choose the driver" option
Now go to the Intel listing and select the correct "82801DBM LPC Interface Controller - 24CC?
Click OK and now it should work.

Make also sure that you have all drivers from the Toshiba website installed: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

What should be happening: I plug in my headset to my controller on my windows 7 x64 PC (wired controller)
and sound comes out of the headset and not the computer

What is happening: No new device shows in device manager underneath sound video and game controllers audio

Problem: not able to use headphones on my controller

How do i solve this problem? When I restart my computer or "scan for new hardware devices" nothing happens and i dont get a headset audio device showing up

And it also doesnt appear in volume control icon > right click > playback devices
so i cant enable it there even when (show hidden/disabled devices) is enabled.

Answer:Xbox One Headset Device not detected in device manager

Hi realflow100,

what USB port are you plugging in the Headset in? I've noticed that sometimes depending on if you plug the headset in a USB2 or 3 port matters for some devices.

What is the audio driver you have for the moment, if you haven't got the latest here is the Acer support download page for your PC:

Okay, here is the sort version. I have 3 laptop hard drives that I wanted to access and purchased an IDE USB device to do so.

Two of the 3 were recognized under the "my computer" icon as a seperate hard drive, and I was able to interact with them just fine. The last one is a different story.

The hard drive powers up, I can hear it spinning. Windows recognizes it in the device manager as the "fugitsu" hard drive and model number. It is also recognized under the USB section of the Device Manager as a "mass storage Device"

The problem is, there is no icon under my computer to access the drive.

I checked the manufatures website for trouble shooting and fAQ's to no avail. I also tried the laptoprepairguys website, and somebody else had a similar problem with no follow up. I also tried to use command line prompt to access the drive, and wasnt able to find it.
Since it is being read in the device manager, i am assuming there has GOT to be a way to get into it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a bunch of old files on here i want to extract. Any help is greaty appreciated.

I performed a clean install of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit using the flash drive shipped to me by HP. The prodocut ID of this flash drive is N3B20AV#ABA. The operating system installed without issue. However, the DVD drive is missing from file explorer. The BIOS recognizes the DVD drive and is able to boot to discs from the BIOS. I have checked device manager and the drive does not appear under the category "DVD/CD-ROM drives". In fact, this category does not even appear. Rather, it is listed under "Other devices" as hp DVDRAM GUB0N with a question mark. When going to the properties of this device, selecting the driver tab, and the driver details button, a message appears stating "no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device". Any suggestions on where I can find the driver so the DVD drive can be used within Windows? Images below show what is seen in device manager.

I have a x200 that I am just setting up. I have one Unknown device in the device manager, after downgrading it to Win Xp. The only ID i can see is ACPI\Intc0102\  I have already installed the intel chip set updates, TPM , Fingerprint reader.Anyone have a good guess what driver I need?

Answer:X200 Loaded with Win XP Unknown device in device manager

All you have to do is download Lenovo Update.  A list of other updates you'll need after that are the following: Bluetooth Manager from X200 Driver Page (if you bought it)Intel 5100/5300 Drivers from Intel Webpage (if you bought it)Intel Matrix Storage 8.5 Drivers from Intel Webpage. That should be everything.

As soon as I bought my M40X-309, I've upgraded to Win XP Pro. Everything else is working fine, but I can't use my wireless device.

I can't find it at the Device manager, it only shows a network device (other than the 'real' one).

When I tried to change it's drive windows keep looking, but didn't find the correct driver.

I tried install intel driver and atheros driver (I don't know which is the right one), but the device still apears as "?" and doesn't work.

Someone can help me? Thank you

Answer:M40X-309: I can't find wireless device at the Device manager

This unit was delivered with a Intel minPCI WLan 2200bg.
In this case you need a Intel driver. Check the Toshiba website or you download the driver from the Intel site.
