I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have two Lenovo Y40-70 computers that I purchased within a couple weeks of each other.  They came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to Windows 10. A few months ago, I noticed that my computer battery meter was reading 100% for an hour.  I continued to work unplugged until the battery died while still reading 100%.  I recharged and the battery again read 100% for more than a couple hours, then died.  So the battery lifetime is as good as always, but the reading is not right.  When I reboot, it still reads 100%. Strangely, the second system, whcih I had not used for a while, was OK, but a few days later, it started doing the same thing (though it was reading 87%, the charge when the computer last worked right.  I suscpect that this happened after a critical update, which the second system went through later. Recently, I downloaded from the Lenovo website the newer power management software on both computers, and it did not help. Then I noticed the Battery recall so downloaded the "Lenovo Battery Utility 2015" to see if my system was afffected by the problem.  When I run the utility, I get the mssage "No Battery Detect."  So it would appear that there may be an issue with the software detecting the batter. Since I can't know the state of the battery (it appears to not want to recharge until it's empty, I gues because it thinks it's 100% charged), I cannot count on this computer when it's not plugged in. Now I ... Answer:Ideapad Z400, Z500, Z510 battery will not charge -...

Hi CuriousFox ,

Greetings.

To isolate fastest is to have another battery to use or charging the original battery on a known working compatible laptop.
The power checkout guide of the hardware machine manual provides steps to check battery charging integrity (example form Z510 manual page 21) .

You can also try plugging the laptop but not turning it on for 1-2 hours checking if there would be changes with the battery indicator LED.

Would it be the same using similar energy manager and operating system that came originally with the machine?
How is the battery health and battery report?

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 battery is out of juice and it wont charge

Hi thePirate,

Welcome to the community,

The fact that the laptop has an internal battery limits a bit the troubleshooting I can provide.

Are you able to get a hold of another power cable to try completely rule out that it might be the charger?

If not then realistically the only thing I could recommend is to get in touch with support and to arrange a repair.

Sorry I couldn't offer more help.

Hi, I have updated my laptop z500 with the latest energy management software from lenovo. I am mostly using my laptop on AC charging. I have read in some forum topics that we can lock the battery at 60 percent charge and then use the laptop on AC power. I am not able to find the options in my version. Please, let me know the steps to do so. By the was I am running on Win 8.

Answer:Ideapad z500 energy management how to lock battery at 60 % charge

hi danish_jpr,

Can you try to:
1. Open Lenovo Energy Management on the system notification area and set battery status to "Optimized Battery Health"
 Link to picture

2. Use the computer just with the battery and drain it up to 10% or until the system goes to sleep/hibernate. When the unit turns off or reaches 10% battery life, plug the AC adapter and observe the battery status (the charge should now be halted at 60%).

Hi there! I just recieved my refurb ideapad z500 and not only was the battery not working ,but it has a wierd small white/bright spot on the screen. Will waranty replace it? Also what is it? Thanks!     I picked up my laptop last Friday from UPS. As soon as I got arround to opening it, I noticed that it would no power on without being pluggen in. That is strange because all my previous laptops had at least enough charge to power on, and it said it had 34%(when I powered it on with the power cord). That was the first strange thing. Then, after about a couple hours, I checked to see if it had charged anymore and it still said ?Plugged in, charging 34%?. I left it all night. The next morning, I went to see if it had moved. It hadnt. Then I thought maybe it was just saying that so I unplugged it. It still wouldn?t come on without the power cord. Then on Sunday it finally told me ?Plugged in, Not charging 34%. Somethings wrong with it. Then, I noticed a strange white spot on the right side of the display. It was really annoying me so I called in and added that to the repair list. I just Googled it and it seems like a problem with some lenovo laptops. I also talked to my friend (who knows a lot about computers) and he said it was something behind the display. Will they fix these issues since it was supposedly "inspected" and was as good as new. Thanks!

Its been almost 6 months now that my battery has died, and i bought this Z510 laptop 1.5 years ago. Ever since then i have used my laptop with it plugged in 100% of the time. My laptop is now outside warranty, i think. I recently realised that i had the 0.77 ghz problem and noticed that lenovo released a bios update for it over a year ago. So now i will have to install the update. But the problem is: my battery is dead. It needs atleast 30% charged battery for it to update the bios, and my battery is stuck at 0% charge. I searched the net for a way out of it, and somebody has requested to make a bootable USB drive using the bios update setup and then boot from that USB to update my bios without having to charge my battery. I'm basically looking for ways to update my bios without going, buying and getting my battery replaced. So how do i make a bootable flash drive using the bios update without charging my battery? Can you suggest any other way?

AFAIK you only need that you have a constant or steady source of power while updating it. So this can be realize if you are using AC. However, if you don't use AC what you have stated regarding the battery having at least 30% charge is true.

Hi All, I have a concern regarding my Z400 idepad laptop. I bought it last February 16, 2014 and just today I noticed thst even after my laptops battery is charged, when I hover over my mouse to it, it would say 7 hours then after a couple of minutes, if I hover my mouse over to the battery icon again, it will already say 4 hours, then again after a few minutes if I would be checking on it would say 2 hours then again, after a few minutes it will now say 3 hours. It seems that it's not displaying the correct battery time. What can be causing this or what can I do to have the battery icon display the right number of hours that my laptop can be used? I know that brightness affects the battery usage coz my brightness is set to full though it's strange to have the battery icon display incorrect number of hours every after 5 minutes if i will check it. please leneove community, i would need all the help I can get and would appreciate your response to this. thank you! Oreo

Answer:Lenovo Z500 Disable battery charge

There is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. Then select the mode and voila!!

Dear All, I recently got an annoying problem in my Z510.A couple of weeks ago power manager suggested me to block battery charging to 40% to keep battery safe. Now after two week I got a message that the battery is weak  and need to be replaced. I bought this laptop in june bus since I changed the HDD with and SSD (I had to open the laptop) i guess the warranty is gone (or not?). Moreover, i tried to look online where to buy a new battery but I didn't find anything. Do someone know where to buy (Amazon preferentially since i need a really fast delivery cause i need the laptop ready for work in 10 days) a compatible battery? It's really urgent so any answer or help is welcome.  Many thanks in advance,Ventu

Hi niels194,

Thanks for Posting!

Try resetting the Battery gauge meter.
Turn OFF the computer and unplug the AC adapter.
Press the Novo or OKR Button to boot up with options.
Select Set up utility or Enter Setup
You should arrive at a page like this

Now Stay on this screen without the AC adapter plugged in until the computer shuts off itself due to power loss.
This will drain the battery to zero (May take couple of hours)

Now Plug in the AC and charge it till 100% and it should be good to go.

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery in your Lenovo Z510 laptop.

Try to perform the battery gauge reset, to perform the gauge reset go to energy manager and select the maintenance and guide and select gauge reset option and check if the battery charges.

Also uninstall the ACPI, to uninstall go to device manager select batteries option and right click on the Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery and select uninstall and restart the machine and check for the issue.

Best regards,

I bought my Ideapad Z510 in March 2014, its Windows 8.1. Last few days it shows "battery is weak, needs to be replaced". The battery does not charge, I have to power through AC cable, whenever I disconnect AC, its power is gone. In order to fix the problem, I did the following taks:1. I removed MIcrosoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and also Microsoft AC Adapter from Battery option. But after restarting the laptop, those options always reinstalled automatically without notifying. When I open Device Manager, those options are always there though those are removed and laptop is restarted.2. I reset the Gauge, but nothing happened.  I cannot understand why Lenovo provides such a poor quality battery. It is gone after 1 year!!! I cannot believe it! I have 10 years old DELL laptop and still I can use that battery for an hour. But my new Lenovo's battery has gone just after 1 year! Its a shame. Lenovo should respond about explanation that why they provide such poor quality battery. Any idea about resolving it?

Answer:ideapad Z510 "battery weak" issue

I have the same issue, bought the laptop around march of last year, and started experiencing the problems during the start of June.  I've seen many topics with this issue, with the same response from Mods and Admins. It's basically a substandard battery issue, and the only solution Lenovo gives us is to replace the battery (which are expensive with the relative cost of the laptop), and that doesn't even give us assurance that this issue will not happen again in a year or so. Very disappointing.

Hi.I have some issue with my Ideapad Z510.When AC adapter is plugged in, everythink seems fine, and work properly.Problem starts when i disable AC adapter form my komputer, then performance of it drasticly low. It doesnt matter that i have put my charge pan on high performance, every single options is on high performance and still its lagy and low. When i put AC adapter, everything back to normal. Dont know if its issue only by me ? or by this model ? how to chenge it to get full performance on battery ? i dont care than energy will be eaten very fast, it doesn matter. What matter for me is that i need to have full performance on battery, same as like on AC adapeter switche on. Thank you for answer and help.

Answer:Ideapad Z510 low performance on battery mode

I have some info. I tested it. And what i found is:When i put AC adapter in laptop i have full power, then i disable AC adapter and power is lost, then i chage power managin to low, and change again to high performance ... and what i get ? i get full power without AC adapter. Next i put AC adapter into laptop and disable it, and again...low power, and again i change in power management to low and to high...and again i get high without cable. So what i can tell you ? Its not battery issue, because i can make it that it will work on battery on high performance. Its software problem. Tell me how to repair it ? Becuase when i turn on laptop without AC adapter, it doesnt matter what i switch in power management, it will dont go on maks power, after plug in ac adapter, power is back, and now i can disable it and change managment to low and high performance and its ok. Pls help

Before I begin, I have to admit that I tried to find a solution in these forums but nothing worked so far or I m not sure if the firmware/bios is compatibl with my specs . So here is my issue. -I was working on my laptop without the power adapter when suddently it switched off. I had at least 40% of battery according to the indicator. -After that the battery indicator stucked to 100%, even thought you could understand that this wasn't true -Two days later the battery indicator shows 0% and some times it goes to 100% for after a short time after  I reboot. So here are my questions. -Is there any z510 firmware that solved this issue ? ( windows 8.1)-Bios upadate ?-If not, .does Lenovo work on a solution? Or knows what is wrong?-I Think I bought my laptop 11 months ago. what proceess should I follow for having the battery replaced ?  kind regardsMiko

dear sir, my name is nikhil in my laptop z510 ideapad i am facing battery problem it is not showing correct battery % and also not show batterey low warning message and it is stable at one position 99% please sir help me out from this problem .many of them his having this same problem please give some battery firmware update so to resolve this problem.it is not a hardware problem because it started from two days before previously it is working fine but now it is not working          I purchased the z510 last  july and while the battery life wasn't great on it now it has stopped working altogether. I have tried every conceivable fix for it from the forums here and none has worked. The problem that I am having is that the battery is stuck at 99% while charging and when it is off charge it will stay on for half an hour and the shut off hard without warning, it has caused me to lose progress in work. The battery gauge reset is no longer working either as it was on for hours and just kept showing 99%. I would appreciate a response back. This seems to be a problem with this make of laptop as far as Ican see.

hi brice572,

The battery on that Z500 is showing a sign of imminent failure. Can you try to perform a battery gauge reset to fully dragin the battery and reset the charge capacity. To do this, open the Lenovo Energy Management > Battery > Battery Gauge Reset (see spoiler)
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If the above steps doesn't work, you need to call lenovo on how to go about replacing the battery.

Hi, I have this brand new z500 and it's been useless couple of months, today I take it back in use and of course plug in charger. After about half an hour I'll start the computer and battery icon says 28% and charging, usually icon is animated but now nothing happens. Also when I unplug power cord, computer shuts down immediately, same like if  you remove battery. Could the battery has been died during the time computer was unused? Is there any way to bring it back to life, or do I have to send this machine to warranty service?

Answer:ideapad z500 battery charging stuck in 28%

Under Energy Management set the battery setting to "Maximum Battery Life".

Hello,I have 3 quick issues.  I own a Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 laptop, which I recieved in December of 2013. When I first turned it on, everything worked, except that a screen popped up that says that the adapter is not fully capable of charging the laptop, and had a hyperlink to open  a windows to buy another battery/charger. Which I didn't particularly care for, until I went to the website. After looking around, I realized that there was, in fact, no available adapter/charger/battery to purchase for the Z510. After owning for several months, it no longer appears every time I turn it on. However, it will sporadically reappear and I wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem. When I turn my laptop off, it says that some programs are still running, and proceeds to show me what appears to be a picture of a blank window (it has no identification stating what the program is). I cancel the shutdown, but everytime I look for the program, I can't seem to find it. After scouring the internet, I have concluded that the said program is Intel Services Manager. I am unsure how to either uninstall/turn off the program so that it will stop showing up everytime I try turning my laptop off. Last question!Recently, when I started turning my laptop on, it wouldn't go to the lock screen. (I am running the most up-to-date Windows 8). It shows that black screen with the white Lenovo print, but does not go on from there. Only after I turn off the laptop and hold down th... Read more

Hello, I have a 3 yr old Ideapad Z510(that came with Win8)which worked absolutely fine until recently. If I plug in the charger when the laptop is on, it abruptly turns off and would never boot again until I remove the charger. However, this is not how it behaves every time. There are some rare instances where I could still operate the machine with charger plugged in.  When turned off, battery is charging and also goes to full 100%. When turned on(battery mode) it does not drain rapidly - I could still get a fairly decent stand up time. So I am assuming the battery is good. I don't see any thermal issues either. Things I tried:-------------- > Tried with a different charger - no help.> Updated the firmware - no help.> Update the entire driver pack - no help.> Applied windows patches, reinstalled and also upgraded windows to Win 10 - no help.> Reseated the battery and associated cables - no help.  I am not sure if there is anything that I could do to at least diagonize the problem before I give it to the service station. Any pointers on this is much appreciated   Thanks much in advance.

i got an ideapad z500 a couple of days ago, and the laptop is giving me around 1.5 - 2 hours of battery backup after a full 100% charge..the laptop is also overheating and gets really hot around the touchpad and under the keyboard..i called up customer care, and they checked it via some remote access software, but didn't give me any solution other than a battery gauge reset and dust removal, both of which i had already done. they also gave me an address and a phone no. of a service centre , but no one answers the phone there.. also, the dealer told me this laptop was covered with a 2 year warranty, first year on site and also a 2 year adp, but the customer support guy said that the latop only had 1 year carry in warranty and no adp..wth is this???

Answer:ideapad z500 overheating and giving 1.5 hours of battery backup

hi nipun1989,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Overheating issues are commonly caused by dirty / faulty fan or a dried out thermal paste. If you get 80-90C+ @ approximately 25C-30C room temperature and you're on normal usage (i.e. browsing the web, watching video, opening document files, etc.), then you may need to send the unit for service to correct the overheating issue.

As for the ADP (Accidental Damage Protection) warranty, did you purchase this directly from lenovo? Normally, a unit will have an OEM warranty for 1yr. If you:

1. Purchase the ADP warranty from lenovo, you will need to scan a copy of your proof of purchase and contact lenovo support on how to go about updating your warranty

2. Purchase the ADP warranty from the retailer (i.e. bestbuy, etc.), this warranty will kick-in after the OEM warranty expires and you will need to take the unit to the retailer if you get any problems on the unit.

Hope this helps

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

Hi, I bought a Z400 last August 2013, and I recently bought a Z510 both having 4GB of RAM. I want to upgrade both into 8GB for now since I kinda have a short budget for now. My question is:1. Can I transfer the 4GB RAM of Z510 to my Z400 or vice versa? and buy an 8GB RAM single one for the other one.2. If yes, Will it be able to run dual channel? Thanks. Answer:Z400 and Z510 RAM

Try to determine the processor used in both unit. From this info try to go to Intel's website to look for the specs of the processors. Pay special attention to the type of memory module to be use. From this you will know whether you can swap the memory modules of both units or not?

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

Thanks in advance

I plug it in and it stays at 5%. It acts like it is going to charge, for less then 30 seconds and stops. I keep it plugged in but the percentage of charged power is slowly dropping. Just received my new notebook and am extremely happy with it, execept for the battery indicator. The effective charge reamining, fluctuates by a wide margin, suddenly jumping from 4 hours remaining - to 3 hours - to 6 hours in a matter of minutes! The PC was left in idle state with no processing happening whatsoever. at 100% charge it shows 5 hours 6 mts of remaining time, as the charge drops to 97% after 5 mins of idle, the remaining time changes to 2 hrs 34 mins and at 94% charge after another 5 mins, it shows 7 hr 20 mins of remianing time! I called Lenovo service and after one hour of trying this and and that, they offered to replace the PC with a comment that battery takes 1 week to settle down and stabilise! I find that a bit out of the ordinary. My config is 710S, i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 10, with Lenovo optimiser loaded. (The battery gauge reset, suggested by service is missing in this version - the service staff themselves could not find it).  Is anyone else having similar issues?

My 3 year old Lenovo Y560 i5 laptop won't charge When I power it on with battery in it everything works normally, but when I plug in charger nothing happens. I checked charger and it works fine, it's output is stable 20V. When I take off the battery, and try power the laptop with charger only, LED indicators light up for half a second and nothing happened. With battery in, laptop closed and charger plugged in, battery LED indicator blinks orange, about 3 seconds on and 10 off, without charging battery even after several hours. I didn't have problem with jack for charging so far, so I think it isn't cause to a problem. I tried a trick with holding the power button for 30 seconds and it didn't work. I had my laptop battery die on me, and when I plugged the AC adapter in, it would not charge. No light on the laptop, nothing. I tried the adapter on a different machine and it was charging, so the adapter was fine. I plugged it into my own again a few minutes later and worked. I noticed that the machine was hot at the time when the battery died. Do these laptops have some kind of feature built in that does not allow you to charge the battery if it's too hot, or is this perhaps a just an unrelated defect that will worsen over time if I don't have it checked out? Thanks in advance,Eric

Hello, I've had my IdeaPad s405 for over a year and I've mostly been happy with it. However, after updating to Windows 8.1 a few days ago, my battery will not charge past ~50%It's very frustrating. One solution I've seen is to download the "Lenovo Settings" app, then, in the power settings, make sure the battery is set to "always fully charge." I downloaded the app, and found that that feature had been removed in the current version. I downloaded an earlier version ("Lenovo Settings Dependency Package") and found that it could only beused with ThinkPads.I also cannot find any solution "power options" that are built into the computer. If anyone can help, I would be very grateful. It's incredibly aggravating to be unable to fully charge a perfectly good battery.Thanks.

Can anyone help with why the battery suddenly wont take a charge I have done the usual and checked the mains plug, supply and all functioning correctly. The charger box lights up as normal when plugged intob the mains and but lap top when running from the operating system (windows 7) shows %zero and not charging. The charging jack point on the laptop does have some movement and I suspect that could be the problem? if thats the problem i thought I would be covered under warranty having purchased from tescos in dec 2009 but for some reason the warranty check on the web site reckons it ran out on the 19/08/2009..Anyone shed some light on that...might help. Many thanks

The lates update of the Lenovo softwares are installed, but it gives error messages. I tried to call the local service center, but it does not answer.  After 10-15 minutes of the mucic from the call center pfone (tried today several times!) I give up. Does it exist ANY working contact with the local (Hungary, Budapest) Lenovo service people? I bought the IdeaPad B590 laptop on 24.07.2013 in Budapest, and have a  (possibly) valid warranty for it. Any prompt solution?

I recently bought a new battery on Amazon for my IdeaPad z580.  It's a Lenovo branded battery, not a cheap generic one.  When I plug the battery into the laptop, it shows 69% charge, but indicates "Not Charging" even when the laptop is plugged in.  I also notice that on the front of the machnine, the battery LED fast flashes an orange color. If I use the older battery, it charges fine and no orange LED. Bad battery or I have I missed something?

Got the same issue that windows users had but, I can solve the same way cuz I did Install Linux on my s400, is there anything that  can do under linux?

Answer:ideapad S400 battery charge until 60% and stop charging, on Linux

Hi Yasumitsu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your S400 Laptop is charging only upto 60%, this issue in windows will get resolved by install the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and by choosing the (Optimized Battery Health), the Battery charges only to 60% and stops charging the battery and then it take its power from the charger, so if you want to charge the battery to 100%, you need to choose (Maximum Battery Life).

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

I tested my z510 HDD (ST1000LM024) by Hd tune 5.5 pro and I received calibration retry count warning
I searched a lot about this warning and tested again with other software , fortunately there was no warning in other software like Acronis Drive Monitor and Hard Disk Sential about calibration
but
seagate hard drives have a special software (SeaTools)  for test and fix
Download SeaTools for windows from Seagate

I tested again, unfortunately short generic test failed

According to my research the most of z500 and  z510 which have a seagate hdd receive these warnings

what are these warnings exactly?
I am really concerned about SeaTools's warning

Answer:Thinkpad T440s internal battery won't charge beyond 80% and external battery won't charge at all

Hi Nicktr,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I think the problem you are running into is Power Manager conflicting with the 80% BIOS threshold. So to avoid this, either keeps the Power Manager threshold for both batteries below 80%, or else both batteries above 80%.

Hope this helps.

Hello all, I recently recieved my IdeaPad Y410p from the Lenovo repair centre and they changed my system board for a different issue, but now I have a new problem. I updated Windows to 8.1 and did all the critical updates and then tried to uninstall some of Lenovo's bloatware and now my laptop won't turn on or charge the battery. I tried to do a power drain (remove the battery and hold down the power button), but still no luck. The laptop won't turn on at all with the battery or the plug by itself.  I then waited a few hours and tried to turn on my laptop again and then this time it powered on for some reason! I quickly restored my system back to Windows 8 thinking there was a problem with an update or bloatware uninstallation and then all seemed well until  I powered down my laptop again, but then couldn't power it back on. I called Leneovo and they said it was impossible for it to be a hardware problem since they just repaired it and since I updated everything and then restored it back, which then it still had the same power issues means it most likely isn't software. The only other thing I could think of is there might be a problem with the power adapter, but I've had this laptop since July 2013 and the adapter was working perfectly fine and this problem only started once I received my laptop back from Lenovo after a "repair". Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated at this point. Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p won't power on with power adapter plugged in and won't charge battery.

Hi there -  I wanted to add that I am having the same problem. I sent my Lenovo in for warranty repair (rear left hinge broke) - I got it back Friday May 16th and ever since then it won't stay on and sometimes won't turn on. I called Lenovo warranty support and (of course) they denied it was their problem. However, I complained enough that they're going to send me a new one. Of course, you have to be in-warranty for this to work. Just a suggestion Hope you get your straightened out!!!

Hi Aizenheart,

Welcome to Lenovo forums.

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not charging in your Lenovo Z510 laptop.

Try to perform a power drain by disconnecting all the external devices and shutdown the system, now remove the adapter.

Now press and hold the power button for 30seconds and connect the adapter and try to power on the system.

Also check with other adapter, as this has a inbuilt battery you can find a reset button where a tiny hole in the base cover try to power on the system through the reset button. Let us know the finding

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Answer:My Z400 battery is dying ,what should i do?Battery jumped from 30%+ to 0%

hi SamYap,

There are findings that some of these systems (including the Z400) contain a function which can electrically disconnect the battery and a battery firmware fix was released to correct it.

See this article:
Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging

I recommend you apply the fix ASAP and observe the battery status. If it still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset under the Lenovo Energy Management tab and observe.

If the issue remains, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about replacing the battery.

That is the easy part. The hard part is the recovery scheme employed in every Lenovo system including yours. If you just clone the hdd using a third party program the recovery program will no longer work. So take extra precaution before implementing your plan if you want that recovery scheme to be functional. Placing that SSD with an OS already installed might solve the problem of the product key but it will not solve the recovery scheme. To get the product key of your OS run a program that will extract it from your unit. Example MsKey, there are others available. Use google to search for them

Hi Urza,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with touchpad and keypad in your Z400 laptop.

Try to update the touchpad driver and check for the issue, also try to boot the system to safe mode and check for the issue. The touchpad driver is a inbox driver i.e inbuilt in the operating system.

For the keypad issue check if the issue persists in command prompt, also tries to reinstall the operating system and check for the issue. Also boot the system to the safe mode and check for the issue. Try to uninstall the keypad adapter and restart the system and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Update: Just found the thread for the Z500 and was able to fix the problem thanks to DraKal. Switched to Microsoft Basic Graphics Driver and it instantly corrected the problem. (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Z500-Brightness-Problem-in-Windows-10/td... My cat somehow messed up my screen brightness such that it dimmed and I cannot make it brighter. It sounds a lot like what another user experienced in Windows 8.1 when the F11 key was hit. I followed the basic instructions for the solution (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Can-t-adjust-brightness-in-Windows-8-1-for-Idea... and updated my Intel graphics driver and downloaded Lenovo Energy Management. With energy management,  I wasn't quite sure what to do because there was one for the ideapad for 8.1 but apparently not supported for the Windows 10 version. So I tried downloading the 8.1 version. I restarted my computer twice and nothing has changed. Screen is at least half as bright as it should be and it is very difficult to read. I need this fixed ASAP as I use it for my home business. Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this? Is there anything else my cat could have hit to lock out the adjustment function? Neither physical brightness buttons or control panel adjustments are working. The computer things my screen is at 100% brightness. Thank you!

Answer:Ideapad z400 Brightness Windows 10

I had this problem over 12 months ago on my Z500 when I had Windows 8.1.After lots of searching I found out I needed to get an earlier video driver which fixed it for me.I since then I've  "upgraded" to Windows 10 and its still been working fine. However just this week I was foolish enough to hit the dimmer key and the screen instantly dimmed to minimum and is barely usable. I guess a W10 update has replaced the video driver again.Rolling back the driver didn't fix it.I'm still looking to find which earlier driver to install. What bugs me about all this is how this problem can still keep turning up and Lenovo haven't yet worked on the driver to solve this problem once and for all. I'm very disappointed. Is a roll back using the very early driver on the D drive the only solution?

I have an IdeaPad Z400 Touch and it just died.  With the AC adapter plugged in it will not power on.  Doesn't seem to be any power in the battery and AC adapter doesn't seem to be providing power.  The same adapter DOES work on a different IdeaPad.

hi! i'm keen and i have been using my Lenovo Idea pad for about 11 months now. i noticed that there are times, though not that frequently, the right side area of the trackpad (where you usually put your hands while typing) heats up. i could not say of it is at an alarming temperature but it heats up and i am kin of alarmed with it. i did not have this issue before. was it supposed to be like this? what could be the possible explanation for it?  i hope someone could answer in this thread. thanks.
