Keyboard typing the wrong keys, not registering others

Question: Keyboard typing the wrong keys, not registering others

Hello, I went through the process of cleaning my mouse while the monitor was off and I'm fairly sure I clicked something maybe I shouldn't have but after that the whole keyboard was messed up..

E shows up as ]
D shows up as ''

Esc, start, [ , n, y, I, F1-F12 keys don't register, among a few others..

Things I've tried so I don't waste anyones time.. [Windows 7]
Changed Location, Keyboard Layout (English - US) is the only language
Ctrl - Shift x1/2, Alt - Shift x1/2, and pretty much any other variant I could think of.
Plugged another keyboard in, same thing.
Plugged keyboard in another computer, works like a charm.
Restarted, plugged and unplugged. Uninstalled and tried to update driver..

Nothing worked so far, hopefully you can can make something happen.
Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Keyboard typing the wrong keys, not registering others

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

Apologies for what is probably a stupid question.
I have a Tecra A2 and run XP proffesional.
Suddenly some of the keys are typing symbols different to those indicated on the keys.
Pleeeeze tell me how to reset the keyboard to default.

With thanks, Danny.

Answer:Keyboard keys of Tecra A2 typing wrong symbols?

Hi mate,

it could be that you have a wrong keyboard map. A keyboard map is like a draft for your hardware which identfies which char is displayed when you hit a key on your keyboard.
Keyboard maps a depending which language you use so if the symbols on the screen do not match the input of your typing then it could be that a wrong keyboard map is set.

In such case you will have to set another keyboard language.

To change the keyboard map you must do the following:
Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language options -> Click on the Tab "Languages" -> Details -> Choose your input language which matches your keyboard

Good luck and nice weekend

I have a Gyration RF mini keyboard. There is a cluster of keys to the right of the space bar, including the space bar, that do not register with the receiver when depressed. The rest of the keyboard works fine. I figured it is a cleaning issue, so I tried that. I even took the keyboard apart to see if there was any visible dirt or obstruction. No luck. Any ideas. I doubt it is worth getting fixed. I would assume the repair costs are close to the cost of a new unit. Maybe I am wrong.

Answer:Keyboard keys not registering.

Visit the manufacturer's website and download their driver for the keyboards

Hi,

I am using a Razer Arctosa keyboard on my desktop computer running Win7 (keyboard is approx 2 years old).

I am experiencing the following (recently, and sometimes it occasionally goes back to normal):

Pressing "w" registers "w4"
Pressing "W" (shift + w) registers "W$"
Pressing "4" registers "w4"
Pressing "$" (shift + 4) registers "W$"
(As if "w" and "4" are linked; occasionally it registers as "4w")

Pressing "u" registers "u" and F5.
(which means when I am typing and press the "u" it refreshes my page... this is the second time I am writing this...)

Pressing the Windows key registers NumLock toggle.

Pressing "7" registers "/7"

This is all of the weird ones I have noticed. All other keys seem normal.
As I type this it has done the above, but now it is back to normal. Cannot find a pattern when it decides to change from crap to normal. It is back to crap again.
This is the 4th day since it started and the computer has been restarted/shutdown various times.
I have also checked for malware and it is all clear.
The most recent keyboard drivers have been downloaded and installed, but did not fix it.
No liquids have been spilled.
Have searched the web and have not encountered a solution (or someone with the exact kind of problem).
Anyone has any idea of a fix or what may be affecting it?

Thanks,
Destinknee

Answer:Keyboard: some keys registering 2 keys

Pretty much every time I see this it's due to something spilled on the keyboard that has damaged it or just a keyboard that has failed.

Test it on another computer, if it does the same thing then it needs to be replaced. On the other computer don't load any drivers or software for it just plug it in and wait for Windows to install it's drivers for it and test it.

Answer:x300 keyboard - number 3 & 4 keys not registering

Sounds like you may have a defective keyboard (the discussion about X300 keyboard problems I saw concerned flex in the keyboard). You could try using compressed air in case some debris is stuck under the keys, and also removing the keyboard and reseating the connector following instructions in the hardware maintenance manual http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69207.html Otherwise, I'd request a replacement keyboard from lenovo,

Hello Lenovo Community, I recieved my Flex 2-14 about 2 weeks ago. Right after I took it out and began using it I noticed the keyboard was really "flexing" when typing, especially in the middle and left side. Also, when typing, sometimes the keys won't register which causes letters to be missing in words. In almost every sentence I type there are letters always missing. I noticed that I have to press in the exact center of keys or else they will not register. Even if I press a key all the way down on the sides, nothing happens. This is a really disappointing keyboard from Lenovo, definitely the worst I've used. Is anyone else experiencing either of these issues? What can I do to get this fixed? Thank you.

Answer:Flex 2-14 keyboard flexing in the center and left. Keys not registering.

Hi, yes having exactly the same issue syptoms as you hve described. Took it back to PC World - advised that was the design!

Hello all i have been having a problem off and on with my keyboard on my asus laptop, sometimes when i press the L key i get a/ instead and when i press the o key i get yt instead of O, I don't really know what is wrong with or making it do that, it is annoying. Sometimes when I hold the shift key for a few seconds and turn on the filter keys and then turn them right back off it goes away but comes back later, has anyone else had this problem, or know what i should do to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. I am running windows 7 on the laptop and purchased it new in feb 10

Answer:keyboard not typing right keys

"purchased it new in feb 10"It should still be under warranty...sounds like you have a hardware problem and I would contact them immediately and request service on the laptop. Just make sure to save all your important docs and files before sending it away.Chances are they may reformat your drive and lose all, or they will replace the keyboard and still set it back to a factory installation.Too many people send their laptops off and lose all their valuable files not knowing ahead of time.Good LuckSome HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

When I use the spacebar / appears. When I press return # appears, when I use the back delete button a [ appears. How can I restore the usual setting?I have done a system restore, switched the laptop on and off. It has not restored the usual keyboard. I have tried all the function keys. Please could someone help me with a solution to restore the keyboard's usual settings. Thanks

Answer:Keyboard typing different keys from what it normally does

This just started suddenly? No spilling of any liquid or other "abuse" of the computer? It sounds to me like the keyboard gets the wrong signals - not even enabling num lock or anything of the kind should result in such behavior - the space bar, return and back key are all pretty much the same on all keyboard-types - unless you've installed some sort of key-remapper (which is highly unlikely, given you've done a system restore) - which makes me wonder - have you run a keyboard test from the BIOS/startup diagnostic? Most likely it's a shot keyboard, given that no abuse has taken place - run the diagnostic test on the keyboard, and see what turns up.

My laptop keeps typing numbers as opposed to letters on certain keys.

I have run my antivirus programme and it is clear ? I am running Windows XP.

Any ideas as to what to do? I have checked the languages and all seems ok there. I have run my spyware and privacy guardian. All reports clear.

Basically, I am now stuck as to what else to try........

Hope someone can help.

Answer:Keyboard typing numers, not letters on certain keys

Hi,

Many laptop keyboards have a section which can be used for numeric data entry only.

These keys are normally just a block of the main QWERTY keyboard and accessed by using a Function key.

You have probably got the keyboard into this "mode"

I have a Equium L-20, just bought it and every so often it is missing characters while typing, these are random, it isn?t as if certain keys are sticking can go through and type the alphabet and every 2 or 3 times it will miss letters or characters out as if I hadn?t pressed the keys, also the space bar can miss now and again.

Would this be a keyboard fault or software, it?s kind of got me puzzled and almost to point of returning it for a replacement.
During this short post it missed 4 letters out, had to check it and fill in the blanks

Answer:Equium L-20: Keyboard random keys not typing

Hi

Well, I have read some topics about the similar issues in this forum and I think it?s not a keyboard drive problem. In my opinion it?s something wrong with the keyboard hardware or with the cable connection.
I think the best way is to contact the ASP for the detailed informations. If the warranty is valid, all replacements will be done for free.

This has been happening every other day for me recently where I will be typing and my keyboard will randomly start typing the wrong letters or pressing certain keys will open the menu bar, but my computer to sleep or just type completely random letters. I've googled it once before and found that I should change the settings in control panel > regional and language settings which worked for me once but lately it doesn't.

I've even purposely added a foreign language and then re added my normal one (UK) but hasn't helped, it was already on the proper settings anyway. The last two times it has happened was on the night and left my keyboard unplugged, the next day I plugged my keyboard back into the tower while the computer was still loading up and it has been working fine now and did the same again last night. I don't know why it does this? Also google suggested a FN key but my keyboard doesn't have one.

Most of the letters come out ok, but some of the keys writes wrong letters e.g. key with letter 'I' gives '5', 'O' gives '6', etc. And it's not the problem of keyboard layout, it's U.S. English and never been changed to another one. It is necessary for you to replace the keyboard. It is not sending the correct signals to the motherboard. Yes, even a notebook computer has a replacable keyboard. It's a job best assigned to a qualified computer technician, to find and order a compatible keyboard, and to disassemble the laptop far enough to be able to swap the keyboard.

My mother's computer started having issues with the keyboard, recently. I'll say it how i see it, but obviously, i might be missing something.

When typing the letter q on the keyboard, "qt" comes up. w and e are fine, r types "re". This happens with two different keyboards. I brought by my (this) keyboard, and it worked fine, but i only tried for a minute. On her computer, i tried both a ps2 and usb keyboard (native for both, no adapters).

Right now, if i try to login, when i click on a user, it fills in the password field (as if there was a stuck key) and tells me the caps lock is on. Capslock button does turn it off, but it did not look like backspace was doing anything. The bios did not complain of a stuck button. Safe mode (i happened to try with networking) has the same issue. No issue using the keyboard before windows loads.

Using teamviewer from my computer to hers is tough. I can hit capslock with sometimes works, keys sometimes work and sometimes don't, if it types in two letters, i can use the mouse to highlight one (to overwrite) when continuing. With a lot of effort and time i can login. Clicking icons on the desktop does not work, from the start menu does.

I tried hitting the helper menu to get the on screen keyboard for logging on. The first time i tried, it came up and worked. Now the button doesn't do anything.

I went into Device Manager (early on, when i could still do things) and deleted the keyboard. It made me reboot, but didn't se... Read more

Answer:Keyboard typing wrong letters

Just tried again via TeamViewer. I can delete in the password field, but it acts as if there is a stuck key. (This is different than the last time i tried.) The form with the option for the on screen keyboard now does come up, but the keyboard is an empty frame and the mouse cursor (while over the frame) shows the circle of waiting.

This is weird. It's like Schrodinger's cat or something. The problem changes every time i look at it!

That is most likely a virus, you need to run a full scan with your antivirus and make sure it isn't compromised. I would also recommend you move this to the malware forum, then you will get it touch with people that are certified to help you with this.

Hi there, and thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer! This problem is really frustrating because I have important things I need to do asap and I am prevented from doing them.

EDIT: It seems the problem is exclusive to Firefox... I never use IE so I didn`t think to check until now, but yup, it`s just Firefox.

The problem is my keyboard. I was just posting in a discussion forum and going to hit the square bracket again to quote someone. But I think I hit something at the same time as pressing that key, as I was going for the A key but instead I hit around the shift key. Hello Bleeping Computer people!

Computer with the problem is a desktop. HP Pavilion Model number a4327c-b. Windows 7.

My problem: Keyboard keys unexpectedly stop tying text and instead, pressing a key, activates a function.

For example typing the F key opens the File menu. Tested with a second keyboard and had the same problem.  Problem started unexpectedly, without warning. Problem occurs when surfing the web and playing free online games at MSN and other popular sites.

Mouse works. Norton Security Suite working.

Temporary fix: Opened the On Screen Keyboard and pinned it to Task Bar. Opening and minimizing the On Screen Keyboard fixes the problem for a few minutes but then the problem reoccurs. Problem seems to reoccur when surfing the web and playing free online games at MSN and other popular sites.

Descriptions: Of how the problem effects these programs:

Outlook: Can’t open New Message. When forwarding an email can’t address it or type text. Keyboard keys act as if they are function keys. For example typing F opens the File Menu. Other keys open other Outlook functions/menus.

Word 2007: Can’t type in a Document. Type F key and Office Button opens.  Other keys activate other Word functions.

Internet Explorer: In all Search boxes, can’t type. F key opens File menu. Other keys effect other menus.

Thank you for any help you can provide,
Craig

Hi, my Down Arrow key, Spacebar and  Backspace does not work as intended.
Down Arrow: Pressing it moves the cursor down at the same time inserts a space where it was in the beginning

Spacebar: Inserts space and brings the cursor down (only if characters are present below)

Backspace: Can not delete by long pressing but instead has to press every single time.
What could be the possible cause? Hardware or software? Can editing the registry bring about a solution?

Thank You

This is a laptop Advanta brand. After keyboard crush I exchange for another one. Part of the keys working fine, part not. Some of them shows upper marks, which usually goes with Shift. Other shows numbers instead of letters. Totally mess.

I connected regular keobard just for the test and works fine.

Is this a keyboard problem? (Seller assures 100% work ) Or rather computer system?

What eventually I can check?

I am having a problem where my keyboard displays the wrong keys. For example, the "K" key displays "2" and the "P" key displays "." It is mostly on the right side of my keyboard and mostly numbers interfering.
I have attempted to adjust the regional settings but they are all set properly. Also I tried to update/reinstall the keyboard and its drivers and that did not help either.

Please someone help soon, I am using a different computer to submit this or I wouldnt be able to type this out properly. The computer with the problem is a laptop so I have not attempted to use another keyboard on it but im sure that wont solve this issue.

The keyboard keys are Correct as far as I can tell pre-login when I type my password to login to windows the keys work fine. After logging in is when some of the keyboard keys start acting up.

Answer:Keyboard Displays Wrong Keys After Logging Into Windows

Sounds like your Number Locks is on.(Num LK)
Typically you can turn it off by pressing the Num Lk key, or by using a key sequence - ctrl + Num Lk.
Depends on the make and model of the laptop. Do you see a Num Lk key?

If you still have problems, let us know the make and model of your laptop.

My Sony Vaio vgnsz660n misses keys often. I don't think it is hardware because I had a VGN Vaio before this, which had the same problme, and Sony checked the hardware and found no issues. Then they let me replace it with this Vaio, but it is still missing lots of keys. As I type this I have to go back many times to retype missed keys. I have lots of programs open, but also have 4GB Ram, and Centrino Duo, and the problem exists with minimum programs open as well. I never had this problem with my slower computer using Vista. When the computer is busy it pauses, but always remembers what has been typed. Not so with this faster, newer computer using Vista. Anyone know what might be the problem?

The keyboard on my month-old Satellite C660 often doesn't seem to work 100% properly - misses characters, doubles up, and typically doesn't register the capital letter when using the shift key (i.e. shows apital rather than Capital). It's intermittent so maybe a software issue - something running in the background and taking up resources (though surprising as it's a fairly fast machine).

I have Office 2010, Kaspersky, and it's usually connected to the internet via a USB router.

Has anyone else experienced this problem or found a solution?

Answer:Keys not registering on Satellite C660

Please check if new BIOS version is available and update BIOS.

Some forum users have noticed similar behaviour on Satellite L and it was fixed with BIOS update.

Multimedia keys not registering when I try to modify them
I have a weird, specific problem. I'll start by saying I have an HP Multimedia Keyboard (P/N: 5188-6077) running on Windows Vista 64-bit. My media player is the latest version of Winamp.

I'm having problems configuring my multimedia buttons, specifically my volume up and down buttons. Right now, they are working just fine, but my problem is that when I turn the volume up, it increases both in the player AND the main volume, when all I want it to do is to adjust the main volume. I want it configured that way because I game and I like to keep the music low relative to the game I'm playing so I can hear it in the background with it overbearing the other sounds.

I've tried to resolve this through Winamp by configuring around the problem, but to no avail. I can turn off all global multimedia hotkeys, but that turns off everything, and I like my play buttons. So I come to the part that I need help with. I tried just Enabling hotkeys and adding the multimedia buttons as the hotkeys, but the porgram doesn't recognize that I'm pressing the button. In the hotkey part, I press N, it shows N, but when I press Play or Next, it shows nothing. And it's not just Winamp that has this problem. I tried other programs to work around that, and they all have the same problem.

If you can help me out that would be bloody fantastic, as this small problem is driving my completely mad.

The "United States-International" keyboard layout option is supposed to let you type accents by pressing the right-alt key at the same time as ' " ~ ` or ^ followed by the letter you want to accent. For some reason on my computer the right-alt key does not work for this purpose, but left-alt and left-shift do. Unfortunately this is conflicting with all sorts of things so I really need to figure out how to get it to work with the right-alt key as it is supposed to. I have no idea what could be causing this problem so I don't know what other information to include. Any idea how to get this working properly for me?

Hi guys,

This is a bit of a long winded problem I've fixed and found new problems!

Basically, i got that virus that pretends to be anti virus software etc etc and asks you to buy it and does fake scans bla bla blah, i finally got rid of that damn thing, but while running Dr.Web CureIt, it crashed and nothing was responding, the only thing i could do was restart the pc because of that extra protection mode in Dr Web CureIt!

So I did that, and then Windows wouldn't boot properly, it would get to the black screen that says Windows XP and has the load bar below it, but then beyond that it reboots, I tried various options like booting from last good config etc etc, wouldnt work, so, I reinstalled Windows on my other partitioned drive, and I could log into that fine and dandy, turns out my winlogon.exe file was missing from the original windows on C drive, so, I copied the one from the new windows drive (D) in the hope that would sort it.

Ta daaaa, it did, but now I can only get to the login screen and my keyboard wont work, so i cant log in as i need to type my password! Thing is, keyboard works fine in BIOS and everything, it just stops responding when it comes to the windows loading and login page! Mouse still works mind! But the keyboard is obviously still seen by the computer as I can use it in BIOS and the lights come on etc!

Really annoying! Any solutions? Cheers

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Essential G580 on 15th May 2013. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday when my keyboard started to type random characters. I had just put my laptop to sleep on the night of 20th July 2013 and when I switched on the laptop on the evening of 21st July 2013 the keyboard started typing random stuff. There has been no spillage on the laptop as its safely covered on my table and I am the only one living in my room. Also to make sure its not because of a software glitch, I tried the following: 1. Restarted the system multiple times2. Went to an earlier System restore point. (Tried 5 different one's)3. Refreshed the system4. Took a backup and Formatted the whole hard disk and reinstalled Windows.5. Switched off the laptop for the night and tried switching it on today morning. None of the above helped. Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.
EG:

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

Hello there. Yesterday, I bought the Ideapad 310-15isk, and it's phenomenal in many aspects. However, I'm a bit bothered by the extensive keyboard this laptop has, most importantly, the pagination commands on the arrow keys. I've been meaning to find a solution to disable those and just make them work on the Numpad since it's really bothersome to type on and then go all the way back because of the return pagination key. Is there any solution for this to unbind those commands only on the arrow keys?

This is an odd issue that I have not found anyone else having. I am not sure as to the cause of it.

Basically, when I press certain pairs of keys, the computer acts as though another key is being pressed as well.
Some examples:
q+s: qws
w+d: wed
r+y: ryu
k+u: kui
l+i: lio

There are others, as well as ones with 3 keys triggering a fourth. They follow no general pattern (although wd, qs, ku, and li are the same pattern
on the keyboard, that pattern doesn't cause a similar response on other keys, like ef, rg, th, yj, etc.)

This problem has persisted as long as I have had this laptop. I got it used on Amazon. It said that, in terms of condition, it just had a few minor
scratches and such, which is accurate.

This occurs every time the keys are pressed at the same time (in fact, while typing this, I was constantly having to correct typos such as "everyu",
"lioke",  and "whiole".)

Several days ago I noticed that these keys were having difficulty in responding when they were struck. Sometimes I had to press hard on the keys to get them to work until eventually they stop responding. I am wondering if it's a hardware or software problem. I used an external keyboard as well as the onscreen keyboard and they work fine. So should I replace the keyboard???......

I have an HP laptop with windows 8.1. My keys are typing multiple letters at a time. For example, when I type "e" it comes up as "ec" when I type "t" it comes up as "tv" all the letters make 2 letters with 1 click. just the numbers are working right. I cant even log into it because I can't get my password to type in correctly. Any suggestions?

Hey there,

I have a Logitech G510 keyboard, I never had any problems until i upgraded to windows 8. If i am typing and try and use the arrow keys to move around with in my text it will just put 3's and w's. I am unsure of what is causing this or what I would really call this problem. If anyone knows how to fix this problem that would be great thank.

Answer:Arrow Keys Problem While Typing

Have you checked the keyboardsettings?

You should find the options here ==> Configuration Screen/ Clock, language and country/ Language

Then chose for Options and check the keyboardlayout. A normal keyboard should be "US International" or "US".

You can also try to download the newest drivers from Logitech. Perhaps the old drivers are confusing Windows 8.

Good luck!

Bought 2 Lenovo B570s in late October, and noticced about 2 weeks after I bought them when I started actually using them, that the keys would frequently repeat at random while typing.  Some keys do it much more than others, and in facct some keys don't do it at all I don't believe.  The worst offenders are on the left side of the keyboard in the middle and bottom rows, though I believe all the keys on the left sside do it to some degree, some keys just aren't used nearly as much as others.  I think I've seen the problem on the right side too, but very rarely and maybe not even all the keys.  I'm intentionally not correcting the duplicate keys that appear as I type this so you can see exxactly what I'm talking about andd how often it occcurrs.  BOTH of my brand new Lenovo B570s bought at the same store 1 day apart have the samme problem, so I find it very hard to believe that others out there haven't experienced this, it can't possibly be that much of a fluke, though it could be batch related.  If anybody has seen this, please reply (don't reply if you haven't).

when typing sometimes when i press a key it wont type. ive plugged in 2 different keyboards and the same thing still happens. at first i thought it was just terrible user error, but ive watchd myself type the keys and noticed that my key press wasnt registering. i noticed that it helps a lil to type slowly. (again its not just user error lol). i only have these typos when typing online.

i updated Acrobat reader, Java, and upgraded to ie9 platform. im still having a lil trouble with it, although it does seem to have improved a bit. i checked for updated drivers and i couldnt find anything.

need help troubleshooting this

thx

Answer:Random keys not typing when pressed

Sometimes, a thorough cleaning of socket and boards with a can of Dust Off or other treated canned air can resolve the problem...
Try a very simple keyboard from any source that you know is working well... Keep a record of the keys that work improperly.

Maybe you have enabled the numpad?!
You can press FN+F11 key to enable/disable the numpad.

Furthermore can you notice this behavior on an external keyboard?

Hi guys,

I'm running Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC, Service Pack 1.

Basically what happens is whenever I type 'b', it comes out as 'b4', 'B' comes out as 'B$', 'n' comes out as 'n7' and 'N' comes out as 'N&'.

This was a pain to type because of this problem. Wondering if you guys have a fix. Thanks.

Note: Sometimes this will go away for a day or two, but always comes back. Literally just now as I am typing this sentence it went away, but it always comes back (lol). I was wondering if you guys have seen this and have a permanent fix. Thanks :)

thinkpad keyboard problem - some keys generate multiple keys when pressed For example, "t" generates "tr", "y" generates "yu", "backspace" generates "backspace" plus "IBM access connections", "m" generates "mn" and "n" generates "mn".  Not all keys are wrong.  For what it's worth, the odd behaviour started shortly after a trip to Miami in which I had a meeting at a cafe in which we were undercover but it was pouring cats and dogs - it was like having a meeting in a sauna - so I am wondering if the high humidity could have caused the behaviour. I tried replacing the keyboard but the new keyboard has the same problem.   The machine in question is a Thinkpad T23 running Windows XP Pro Any help would be appreciated as I am now in Los Angeles using a borrowed Mac! :-)

I just finished building my PC, everything looks fine. After starting up for the first time, i get the motherboard message on the monitor but when i press the keys nothing happens. I tried with all the USB slots and the result is the same.

Answer:Keyboard not registering after initial boot up

Have you installed your OS yet? Are you able to get into BIOS? Not sure what motherboard you have....but if you can not get into BIOS, then you might need a non-USB keyboard get into your BIOS and change the setting for USB devices to be detected by BIOS and not by your OS.

My Dell Inspirion 3148 (Intel i3) laptop's certain keys are not functioning, I have updated all the drivers now what can be done?
performed all steps as asked by agent here....

but still the issue

Answer:Dell Inspirion 3148 keyboard (left side keys like 1, Q, A, Z, Caps Lock) keys are not functioning)

I'm assuming you have windows 10 on the system.....
I'd suggest you check Sticky keys in control panel. You might have mistakenly turn it on.
At the left bottom of taskbar, right click windows icon, click on Control Panel, Ease Of Access, and then Change How Your Keyboard Works. If there's a check mark in box - Turn on Sticky keys) then uncheck it and click Apply.

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K
