Envy M6 hinge/case issue

Question: Envy M6 hinge/case issue

The left hinge and case on my laptop are not working properly. The screw on the case seems stripped. The case pries open when the laptop is opened creating a gap over 1/4". There is an existing forum with many reports of the same issue on different models of laptops. Has this been recalled or can I simply purchase the bottom piece of the case and replace it on my own? My machine is 2 yrs old and not under warranty. I am concerned that the hinge might break or that the screen or other components may have issues if this is not fixed soon. The machine has never been dropped or bumped.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I purchased an HP Envy 15T in August, 2014.   After 20 months, the hinge/outer case has developed a serious stress crack.  There has been no trauma to the computer that would have caused this.I am concerned that this seems to be a popular problem.  I realize I am out of warranty , but I hope HP will stand by its product and repair what look to me like a defect in the unit.  I am an employee and repeat customer of HP laptops (with great success and reliability).  I hope HP can resolve this for me.

I use HP exclusively since I swore I would never purchase another Dell product.  I have either purchased or other's have purchased at my recommendation at least 11 PC's and printers.  However, I am very disappointed with this machine.  The hinges are so tight they broke the case where they mount.  I fear that is I replace the broken part, it will quickly break due to the hindes.  I see this is not an isolated issue and hope that HP will see this is a design flaw and make this right.

I have a HP m6-n010DX ENVY TouchSmart 15.6 Inch Touch Screen Laptop and I take great care of it.  However, as I was opening it the other day, the hinge on the left side pushed the bottom case and broke the screw hole.  Now everytime that I open it, it pushes the bottom case.  I beleive the hinge and the case are both defective and I have seen a lot of complaints on this.  This is no longer under warranty, and I was wonding if there was a product recall for this factory defect?

I too am having problems with my ENVY  dv7 17" notebook, with the case separating, except it's the RIGHT hinge. After reading many complaints in Forums here and elsewhere, I've gotten very discouraged that HP would do anything  to remedy my problem. Yet, I see here that a few people have achieved satisfaction by getting their computers fixed for no charge. My problem is no different than theirs, so there is no reason that I should be denied the same stand-up service. I've been a longtime HP customer, but this hinge problem has me and my computer reaching the breaking point. Must I spend hours on the phone seeking a solution to this problem? I think you have the ability and good sense to fix the problem ASAP.

Left hinge pushes case open. When this first started I would hear a bizarre noise from the cooling fan when I would try to snap the case back together. The problem was bad enough that I stopped opening and closing my notebook computer to prevent further damage. Now the cooling fan appears to have failed altogether. I am out of warranty, but this seems to be a design or material problem as I have seen a number of similar posts on support forums. Please help. I'd love to use my computer as intended.

I recently on 8/2014  purchased a HP envy for my son who just started college, He has been using the laptop gently and has had no falls or intentiontally caused physical damage to it.  A few months ago , the hinge and the part of the case attached t the left hinge broke and he is very disappointed.  I have used HP products for a long time and thought this will be a good tiime to introduce them to him, but he is very disappointed and so am I.  After research, I realize this is a know problem and many other users have had issues.  The laptop is still functional as long as it is left open. Please helpThank you.

My HP Envy also, has the left hinge coming apart.  Each time I open and close my screen, the hinge and notebook base separate.  I would like to have this fixed.  This started about 10 months after I purchased this notebook.  I thought this was just an isolated case, but sounds like a quality defect.  I was just going to go with another brand of notebook in the future due to this issue, but if HP can resolve will continue to remain a customer.

My Envy 17's  left hinge has come adrift and is causing the case to separate. There are no loose plastic pieces in the case or fan issues yet.We are leaving the top open; it is no longer a portable laptop. Through searching I have learned this is a common and long time issue starting with prior laptops models. This premuim and expensive latop is just over 2 years old and has been kindly treated; never dropped.I have been a long time HP customer. Today I spent over 30 minutes & 2 phone calls with HP Techical and Customer service ultimately being 'dropped' both times during transfers. I'm hoping this forum's moderators will do better. Yes, the laptop is no longer under warranty but this is a long term well known design weakness.I expect to hear from HP with a  no-cost to me repair solution.Per HP's motto they are "Here to keep you happy; And your PC, too" I will provide updates to this issue.

One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j013cl laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything (right hand side). It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken... When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge.I read other forums with this same issue (they are closed now). Can anyone please tell me how to fix the problem?

I have had this laptop for approximately a year now, and noticed a while ago that the left hinge seemed to be sitting a bit lower than the right hinge when the laptop is open.  Not too long after, the issue got worse and more obvious as the case now separates whenever the hinge is used. The case closes up again once the laptop is shut.  I have noticed that some of the plastic inside has broken and screws have come loose, as I can occasionally hear fragments being tossed around by the fan.  Some small screws and small pieces of plastic have even fallen out of the side of the laptop by turning it on its side while the casing is separated.  This makes me wish I hadn't strayed from Lenovo's laptops... Would HP be able to fix/replace this for me?  How long would it take?  How much would it cost, if anything? Thanks!

It appears that this is a common hardware problem for over two years, based on  the posts.  This is my son's laptop for college, so we have now had to swap out our home Hp Pavilion laptop with him.  We purchased a two year HP warranty, and it just recently expired.  This is our family's seventh HP desktop or laptop.  How is HP dealing with this issue?

The left hinge casing on my laptop came off and was lost, and the black, plastic case for the screen is cracked and seperates from the screen when closing and opening the laptop. If there is a fix, I need it to be done quickly (I will pay for expedited shipping). I'm not sure if I have a warrantee on the laptop, it was a gift. The laptop is an envy m6. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I would like to understand how my problem will be dealt with as I am now working with a machine which is very physically fragile and I would like to get it fixed as quickly as possible so that no further damage is done to the machine. My machine is covered by warranty, but going through ww.hp.com/contacthp the site didn't agree.  So I put in my details and attached the invoice for the machine which says that I have a Care Pack which means that it still is in warranty.  Now I need to wait for 1 day until I get a response?  Very disappointingly, the page where I filled these details in did not even send me a "receipt" email, so I need to wait 1 day, hope that my warranty validation request was actually made, and hope for a response.  If I don't get a response, how then do I get back in touch (via what medium, I wonder?  it seems that I am not allowed to make a phone call?) So, hopefully this will be resolved by tomorrow.  At that point I can then type in again a description of the fault. Then what will happen?  I wait another day for someone to call me?  How many days will this take?  What can't I just phone someone?  Or even go on a "chat"?  I'm not allowed to do that as my warranty has expired (except that it hasn't actually expired - that's an HP mistake). The problem is that the case has broken at the location of the screws near the hinges on one side.  The scr... When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge. I purchased the factory refurbished laptop in January of this year. How can the laptop be repaired? One source told me that they would have to replace the entire cover ... IF they could find one.  Is this repair covered under warranty? I just found a topic for the same issue with the dv7 "dv7 Left hinge pulling case apart? What the heck!".  It appears that HP have some real widespread problems with the left hinge of their laptop casings!

Hi I've got an issue with the left hinge on my HP Envy laptop which means I can no longer close it, it was very tight and as a result has pulled the plastic frame at the bottom of the screen from the top of the laptop. Seems like this is a very common problem but I haven't been able to find any details on how to fix this in the UK, can someone help?. I had the same problem after about 8 months of having the laptop (despite having taken good care of it!) and this was fixed under warranty but it is now out of warranty. As it was only fixed around 9 months ago and I have taken very good care of it since so I would hope that HP would fix this problem for me. I've always though of HP as a reliable brand so its quite disappointing for there to be such a glaring fault with this model. Thanks

Hi, I purchased my Envy M6 about three years ago. It is obviously out of warranty. Today, the left hinge mechanism failed.I am unable to close the lid without causing further damage, as case is splitting aroud the hinge. After briefly looking for solutions to this problem I was astounded by the sheer number of reports of the exact same malfunction occuring on this device. With countless reports of the problem, I find it incomprehensable that there has been no recall to resolve the malfunctioning parts.  Rather than a recall, the information I can find through these forums suggests that HP is charging customers for the privilage of repairing their malfunctioning product.I'm hoping that HP is able to address this issue!

Bought my wife a new HP Envy, inherited her old Envy 17 inch and realized that when you open the screen the bottom panel separates some in the left corner by left hinge. I guess this is a ongoing problem for these models. Wondering if HP is doing anything about this issue through means of out of warranty assistance? For me the biggest concern is that this will get worse and affect the fan or worse the hinge will break completely.

Hi, I purchased a Envy m6 in 2013 (now out of warranty).  Approximately 1 year ago I noticed the plastic hinges  would make a slight noise when opening the screen to 90degrees. I soon noticed the right plastic hinge was cracked and when open the black screen surround would be separating from the silver outside cover. After time it had progessed to separating the screen approximately 1-2cm. I have never dropped or damaged this laptop, and has had very minimal use over the last 3 years. I used to be able to click the screen back together when closing the lid quite easily. As of today it is very difficult to push the screen back together when closed. I have seen many posts on the internet about this problem. Does hp fix this problem? This laptop doesnt even leave the computer desk. Hardly gets used, maybe a handful of times a month for no more than 1hour at a time.

As this is an additional hinge problem among my household of hp laptops, it becomes most difficult to defend hp's reputation among my circle of relatives and friends. This time it is my spouses laptop.  I was close by when I heard a loud screach/crack/pop as the lid was raised.  Then the fan apparently engaged a piece of loose plastic and began to tap away struggling to recover.  I grabbed it and tilted enough to seemingly shift it so the particle disengaged but surely this is only temporary.   I've little appreciation for the panic it instilled for an issue that should not exist.  Now wondering if I should reach for greater peace of mind and replace all with new and different.   Any suggestions?

I've read a number of posts on this forum, indicating that this is a rather common issue with these laptops, which is likely due to the flaw in the design. I wonder if HP can do something to help. It appears the hinge assembly for my PC has begun to push the case apart, as the top is aluminum and the bottom is plastic, This problem is getting unreasonable. I looked online to see if there was some fix and immediatly found that the problem is pervasive, I'm hoping that there is a way to repair this, because I don't want the case to come completely apart. But, I don't want it to get damaged further, I have always used this PC and it just has out of the blue Started popping apart in the back where the aluminum comes in contact with the hinges. Hopefully even though I am out of the warrenty by about a year there is some fix to this problem, because I have an HP home computer that has worked perfectly for years, while this laptop in less than 2 years the case just starts popping apart. I am about to enroll in college and need a working laptop. So if there is any way to easily fix this please tell me, and If it is fixable at all If any additional information is needed please just ask. I found a picture Of somone with the exact same hinge problem with the back of the case, having the exact same effect on my pc

I have two issues. The first is that my battery stopped charging right after by warranty exprired causing me to be unable to use my laptop unless it is plugged in. The second is that the left hinge is broken, causing my bottom case to come apart. This has also caused an issue with my fan (from a broken piece interfearing?) which causes my laptop to overheat.  This is unacceptable. This laptop was expensive and I depend on it daily to run my business.

I've had this product for a little under 2 years. Today the fourth major problem with it occurred. The left hinge supporting the screen has come loose and is pulling away the base of the laptop. I can hear what sounds like cracking as I open the lid and a screw inside - moving around. I have treated this PC like a new-born baby so it is most defiantly a manufacturing fault. I?ve checked other threads and this problem has been apparent to countless other people with the same model PC. At almost 1000 I expect far higher quality from such a product. Had a known about these issue beforehand I would not bought it and I feel now I have been mis-sold the product as it is clear that it has a clear manufacturing fault with it. The fact that these products were not recalled for the faults with them is ridiculous. I would like to know what can be done about this in order to rectify the problem. Here is a link to the exact product details and an image below of the problem. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04356668 & http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/17-quot-HP-Envy-Coming-apart-at... I do hope that something will be done and I won't have to contact trading standards.

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

All, hope this post reaches knowledgeable eyes.  My college aged daughter dropped her P580 and banged up the left rear corner of the Lap Top.  I am looking for the QIWy9 Power Board UMA FRU 90000332, QIWy9 Upper Cae-H
FRU 90201008, QIWy9 Lower Case -H FRU 90201009, and the QIWy9 LCD Hing-H FRU 90201003.  I contact Lenovospareparts.com but good luck with that.  If it is not on their list they don't have it.  This is a fairly new PC, bought around Sept 2012.  I used the maintenance manual to disassemble the laptop and just need the parts.

Can anyone direct me to a supplier of these parts, PLEASE.  I can't believe the parts aren't available.

The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.

Question: HP Envy 17T Hinge

When I open/close the laptop I feel the left back side shifting.  It looks like the hinge is shifting and then separating part of the upper case from the lower case.   I can push the pieces back in place but the next time I open/close the case the same thing happens.   I received the laptop in April 2014.  What steps do I need to take to get this repaired under warranty.  This is a HP ENVY 17t Quad TouchSmart Product number: E2E11AV. Thanks!!

Hello. My right laptop hinge has been progressively loose in the past few months and the body of the right side has become separated. This is despite completely normal usage, and no tough handling at all. My computer is now refusing to turn on. I was wondering how it would be possible to fix the computer.

Question: Envy hinge

Through normal use, and to be honest, the laptop is only used very sparingly, the left hinge has broken and this has also damaged part of the plastic bezel next to the screen. I am not very happy as I have also seen this on a friends 17" HP and it has completely put me off your brand. These issues are documented far and wide online and I am shocked that you can sell a product with such bad build quality. I always opened the laptop with both handsides and treat things I own with respect and care.

Question: HP Envy Hinge

I bought this laptop about 2 years back and while it was under warrenty had to have it fixed because of issues with the hinge, which, I understand is a common problem for the envies. After a year and a half of very delicate care and no longer under warrenty, the hinge is once again breaking down and likely to become completely unusable again. I called tech support about the issue and was told that repairs would now cost 250 dollars, which is, frankly, unacceptable. I really like this laptop, but this issue with the hinge has been a constant headache. I, like another who I saw post about this issue, would love to see HP stand behind their product and have this mistake in production taken care of.

My HP ENVY m6 Hinge is broken, laptop is less than 2years old. and its used 90% of the time on desk. Not often removed from Desk. used with wireless keyboard and wireless mouse....It has never been dropped!..The Right side hinge next to power plug broken loose.  each time the screen is opened top and bottom pieces comes apart exposing an opening and screen starts to flicker.  Best thing the HP Rep on phone suggested was  pay $220 + tax charge to send in laptop. I am trying to avoid negative comments about this on twitter and Instagram, but not very pleased with the $220 option for something I did not brake with normal use. To make it worse Rep tells me this is not an issue with this model. Do the people in HP know about this forum?? found 6+pages deep on this issue alone..... This appears to be a problem with the hinge poor design, metal screw against plastic wears out and hinge starts to fail. this is the only issue with this laptop. everything else works fine. .. Please forward this complaint to someone in management to do the right thing thanks!

Question: Envy Hinge Broken

I have had my Envy for about four years now - obviously the warranty is gone. I bought it from Best Buy. It has worked perfectly normal. I have never had an issue, the keys dont stick, it looks brand new. I take very good care of it and have been pleased with the product. Today I closed it after I was finished with it and the hinge completely broke loose and the bottom plate of the computer cracked. How could this happen with no damage and no issues? I have tried to contact HP but can not get through to anyone but a computer. Clearly this is an issue with this product and was wondering who I contact at HP for help? Thank you!

This seems to be a common problem.  I purchased the HP Envy Touchsmart 15 in April 2015 to replace the virtually identical computer which had the same hinge problem.  On the first laptop, the HP quote to fix it was exorbitant so I found someone else.  The repair did not last. So I replaced the computer and now have the same problem with the second one.  The left hand hinge is breaking away and gradually getting worse.  I have read a few posts on line giving descriptions of repair efforts.  Tried to repair the first laptop but could not get at the hinge to repair it. Any suggestions

My HP Envy 17 recently started popping the back left hinge cover. The hinge is broken off of the PLASTIC piece it screws in to and a bunch of small plastic pieces came out of the cover. This laptop has been extremely taken care of there's no reason for it to break other than a faulty design. Ofcourse this had to happen right after my warranty ran out.  I'm very dissapointed as this is an expensive laptop that shouldn't have these design flaws!

I've seen quite a few issues with the dv7 hinge, and now it seems to be affecting me as well. I've had this laptop since 2012, and while it's an amazing computer, the hinge seems to be a large issue across the community. Nearly every forum I've searched on HP tends to have an associate help through private messaging, so I can't seem to find a solution that can help me. The hinge on the right side of the screen is making popping and cracking sounds when I open and close the laptop, actually opening the inside of the laptop in the process. I believe this is also causing an issue with the issue, since the fan continues to go crazy after a few minutes of any semi-intensive processes. I've since had to leave my notebook open due to the increasing severity of the hinge looseness. Is there anyone that can help with this? From what I've read, it seems like the hinge needs to be screwed back down into the base, except that I'm assuming that particular piece has been broken off. Most people are saying that the hinges are plastic based, which is causing all these hinge issues.

Hi,I purchased a Envy m6 in 2013 (now out of warranty). As of today it is very difficult to push the screen back together when closed.I have seen many posts on the internet about this problem. Does hp fix this problem? This laptop doesnt even leave the computer desk. Hardly gets used, maybe a handful of times a month for no more than 1hour at a time. I have been unable to use my laptop since November because I'm scared of the screen breaking.

Dear HP!I`m contacting you regarding my girlfriends HP Laptop, the model number is 1178sa. She bought the laptop few years ago and the right hinge has broken causing the screen to begin to split. I saw that so many other people was contacting you guys with the same issue. Actually we cannot close the lid now, because the LCD Screen and the plastic frame is separated, the plastic is broken atually and basically it seems the whole right hinge is braking out of the top panel.  I have heard good things about the HP customer service, so I give it a try. Please help me if it is possible. Any help will be appriciated as this notebook was nearly 700 when she was purcashed it, and like nearly all the ladies, she`s taking care of her things on an extreme level, so even if I know it`s out of the warranty time, I`m sure it`s not her fault and it seems a common problem with the HP notebooks. Thank you very much in advance!Have a great day!Istvan

My HP Envy's hinge is detaching as the casing is cracking open. I have never dropped it or damaged it any manner. Everything else works perfectly. I have barely had my computer over a year now which is not a long time and this seems to be a very popular problem. I will have to pay to get this fixed due to a manufacturing problem and being a college student that is definitely not in my budget especially with the precaution I take with this laptop. I love this product and so far I have had a great HP experience. I would hope HP is going to back their product!

I was still under warranty and was able to have it fixed for free and everything was great. Now, just over a year later, the same hinge has broken again. I don't have the money to fix it and it's at the point where I can't open the laptop because the hinge caused the bottom of the computer to separate. This seems to be a really common problem with the HP Envy and it seems like HP should have some way to fix this (for less than the $350 I was quoted at my local store). Anybody?

Hi,  I've had issues with creaking noises from the the left hinge on my HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC machine and having opened the screen gently as I always do today, the hinge seems to be broken and plastic screw casing has fallen out.  I've checked the forums and this has been a defect issue for a lot of the machines and I'm having the exact same problem with overheating too. (I thought this was a genuine issue with most HP's as per the customer rep who sold me the laptop).  Sometimes the keyboard becomes way too hot in the top left corner to type. Please can someone inform me what I need to do. The laptop is around 18 months old. I've enclosed an image of the problem.

First off, I want to say, I LOVE my HP Envy - it is the perfect laptop for me.  Sleek and light, and has all the processing power that I need.  It's been my best laptop purchase, I've been so happy with it. THAT said - the right hinge just broke.  I'm always very careful with it, but the hinges have always been tight, and have squealed whenever opened or closed.  It finally gave way when opening it.  The hinge broke away from the frame.  The problem and damage seems to be completely isolated to the hinge itself - everything else continues to function properly. I want to keep this laptop, so I took it in to be repaired.   The repair was more than I paid for the laptop.  I was gutted. So, I went online to see if I could tackle the repair myself.  I saw that MANY other HP Envy users were having the same problem from this Manufacturing Defect, and that HP was repairing the hinge. Can you please point me in the right direction to have HP perform this repair?  Even if I must pay a repair fee, since it is out of warranty.  (I would be thrilled if HP covered this repair, though - being a manufacturing defect that so many other Envy users have been affected by)Many thanks.

Hi,HP Envy M6 series laptops have this design flaw and I have repaired an M6 laptop myself. The cost of the repair is basically only the cost of the base enclosure and around 30 in my case but that was caused because the item was bought in the US and shipped to the UK. You have to tell us the product model number such as B4D17EA. Then we can search the right part number and the part itself on ebay or other online retailers. I remember that people with Envy M6 laptops were contacted by HP representatives but have no idea what the outcome was.

I too now have a broken hinge.  I am very careful with everything I own, and am very disappointed in HP and the broken hinge. My computer was purchased August 2014, and rarely leaves my desk.  I rarely close the top, and I don't know what to do next. It was not a cheap computer  at Best Buy and I would hope you will stand behind your prodcut. Thank you

If your pc is still covered by the 1yr factory warranty Or if you have any extended warranties with hp, there would be no charges to get the hinges replaced, as there are no charges for normal wear/tear issues.please call HP via 1800-474-6836 for further support.

Left hinge y the power button is broken and causing issues.  It actually sometimes prevents my laptop from starting.  I have to shut the lid.  press the bottom base cover and keyboard back together and then carefully open the lid and try and start it.  Lots of folks in this forum seem to be having the issue.  How can it be fixed?

Hello, I have an almost two year old Envy 17, and the left hinge has recently broken.  A local repairman told me the entire bottom part of the laptop would have to be replaced, but I thought that perhaps HP had a simpler and less expensive solution.  I've always had good experience using HP products.

Recently, the left hinge has become loose on my HP Envy after having it for over a year and a half with no issues. While my warranty has expired, I have discovereed that this is a common manufacterer's issue for this product, so I was wondering what options HP offered for this problem since it is not the fault of the customer.

Hinges on my HP Envy dv7 were very tight, even when newly purchased.  Over a year ago, the right hinge cracked and now the hinge is dislocated out of its housing.  When I open the hinge, the hinge is forcing the top fascia panel out, and there is separation at the corner.  It appears to me that this issue is a common problem that can be traced back to overly tight and weak hinges (a design deficiency), since normal usage should not result in this type of damage.  I would appreciate if the HP community is aware of any recall on this product or there is any recourse to have it repaired under workmanship warranty.

Sadly, I've also joined the ranks of the HP broken hinge crowd. I purchased a refurbished HP ENVY Sleekbook 6-1014nr. At that time I had litttle hesitation with the purchase due to what I thought was a great reputation for HP laptops. This laptop was handled with care and with pride. It was a great little machine, puchased to support my school classes. Of course a while after the 90 day warranty was up the first hinge popped loose. Handling the laptop thereafter with kids gloves unfortunately didnt prevent the remaining hinge from seperating as well. Some internet research quickly revealed that this is a widespread HP design defect and is very common in HP laptops. Shame on me for doing my due diligence prior to my purchase. The laptop now functions solely as a desktop with the screen propped up against the wall. It is far too fragile to consider even closing the screen and using it in the intended manner. I do think the machine is a great little laptop aside from this major design issue and with school now back in session I'm open to suggestions. Any recommendations on a cheap and effective repair?

Otherwise being a fine laptop, this laptop was not built to last. THE HINGE WILL BREAK. During my tenure with this laptop, both hinges broke. Once, it happened under warranty. The second time, even though this issue happens to many people, it was out of warranty and HP would not cover the repairs. The estimated cost of the repairs were $250. My laptop broke at 8 months old and 2 years old. I have never dropped this laptop, never treated it with anything but the best care.  No laptop should break as often as this  one did.   I mentioned that I have seen many other customers with this problem on forums, reviews, etc. The representative said that they have a list of products normally recalled for said issues.  I will be posting this review everywhere.  Do not buy this laptop.  Two words. Planned. Obsolescence. Do not waste your money on a product that will break. Instead, just buy a Mac or something else.

My laptop hinge has cracked. There has been no trauma to the laptop at all. It simply cracked one day while I was opening the laptop. The border of the screen has a crack in it and is causing a separation from the screen. I actually have had to put tape on this area to keep it together and to keep it from breaking more. I've read a lot of individuals having the same problem with this same model laptop and I'm disappointed. I spent over $1k on this laptop and thought I'd get more than a couple of years out of it. I hope that HP will stand behind its product and repair this without cost to me since this is clearly a known issue in the model.

I just joined this forum when I did a search on HP Envy hinge problems and found so many comments.  I am also having a problem with my left hinge which is causing separation of my case.  My computer is still on warranty for about another week so I submitted a claim through the HP warranty center which was denied (I think. The message wasn't clear but the header said my case was closed). I take care of my equipment with my prior laptop (much cheaper ACER) lasting about 5 years.  The more expensive HP shouldn't be considered a disposable item within a year. Any help or advise on what else I can do to keep my laptop functional would be greatly appreciated!
