Outlook 2007 (IMAP Hotmail Account) Won't Delete Emails

Question: Outlook 2007 (IMAP Hotmail Account) Won't Delete Emails

I have a IMAP Hotmail account running on Outlook 2007 and suddenly it doesn't delete emails when I use the delete function on the toolbar and only sometimes deletes when I use the keyboard delete key, only then after going to another folder and coming back to my in box. I have tried running Account Setting again, even reloading my account. I used my Office 2007 disc to delete Outlook and reload it and still the problem persists. I have used Outlook 2007 and Hotmail for years without this problem. Has Windows 10 done something in an update that might cause this or what else could be my problem?

Preferred Solution: Outlook 2007 (IMAP Hotmail Account) Won't Delete Emails

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This issue just has started. It worked for the 3 years I have owned 20007. I have all the correct boxes checked, I think. The only thing I changed, which coincided with the alerts not working, was added an IMAP account.

Could the adding an IMAP account disable the desktop alert feature?

Thanks

Answer:Outlook 2007: No Desktop Alert on new emails after adding IMAP account

First let me clarify. I don't have Outlook 2007. But I do have 2003 on one of my machines. That said, I don't believe that just adding an IMAP account would have an adverse effect on your alert settings unless you somehow inadvertantly disabled the feature during the setup of the account. Again, I'm working with 2003, but in my main navigation menu, under Tools, I have a category for Rules and Alerts. This includes an interface for setting up the various rules for your email alerts. I'd start there and make sure all of your preferences are still set up correctly.Hope this helps,Bill

Hello,

Here in the UK, Orange turned off their email address system. I have a GMail account and want to use this in Outlook 2007.

However, I have a POP account which receives but does not send. It is for this reason, I use the GMail account from which to send, but then make my Return address to be that of my POP address.

Anyway, GMail is an IMAP account and Outlook tries to send mail from the POP account as opposed to the Defaulted IMAP GMail account.

For Outlook 2010, 2013, etc, there are Registry fixes for this. I cannot for the life of me find a Registry fix for 2007. Does it exist, with instruction?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Win 7, Office 2007 etc etc.

Answer:Outlook 2007 - Make IMAP account default sending account

I have moved a few people off of orange over the last few weeks and then closed down the account on outlook 2007 and 2010

If you have the old orange still set as default account - change to the gmail account as default
also switch off the send and receive - not needed for IMAP

otherwise , not sure what you are trying to do

You can also delelte the account and the POP email will remain - BUT backup and test the PST file first

Greetings,

We setup an IMAP account for someone on their company-assigned laptop. When they delete something, it crosses out the entire row in their list of messages for that particular message ... instead of removing the message. How to fix?

Answer:Outlook 2007, IMAP - Delete crosses out e-mail message instead of delete

With IMAP, a delete action means to add the \Deleted flag to the message. Clients show messages marked as \Deleted in different ways. In Outlook and Outlook Express, they're crossed out. Same for Thunderbird. In Opera's built-in mail client, they're hidden from view and shown in "All Messages/Trash".

Then, when you want to get rid of a message that's marked as \Deleted, you expunge it to totally wipe it from the server and the client. It's often called "purge" in MS products. In Opera, it's deleting a message in "All Messages/Trash" or emptying "All Messages/Trash". Also, by default in Thunderbird, IMAP move operations leave behind the original copy that gets marked as \Deleted. You have to compact the folder (or all folders) to issue a generic expunge command on the folder to wipe out all \Deleted messages in the folder.

So, Outlook sounds like it's working as expected for IMAP.

However, many IMAP clients allow you to set an IMAP trash folder. When you set one, the delete action changes from marking a message as \Deleted to moving (Copy to, mark original as \Deleted and UID expunge the original) the message to the IMAP trash folder.

I don't use Outlook or know anything about it. But, it sounds like you need to set an IMAP trash folder somehow and or configure the delete action. Then, delete will work how you expect. Just don't know if Outlook supports setting an IMAP trash folder.

Hi
After three hours or so of frustration and annoyance, it dawned on me that I have Google 2 tier verification turned on and then used the unique password to configure my Outlook POP3 account successfully.
When I attempted to add an IMAP account, however, I wasn't so lucky. It won't configure automatically (like Pop3 did) so I've gone to recommended manual settings, used the unique password, inserted the recommended port designations for incoming and smtp servers, but as soon as I attempt to initiate the account I get a popup window: The Requested Operation Failed.
I do want to use an IMAP account, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

I run Outlook 2007 with 2 accounts an IMAP a/c and a hotmail account that I also link in (I assume that this is POP 3 - sorry not so good at this). Anyway, neither account will show as the default inbox but not too much of a problem I just go down the side navigation pane on the left and click on the IMAP account or POP 3 as I need it. My PROBLEM is that i cannot remove the IMAP account inbox items to the folders that I have set up. The email shows in the folder but it also still shows in my inbox with a line through it and same if I want to delete it, it stays in inbox with line through it. HELP how do I change this?

Answer:Cant remove deleted emails from inbox - Outlook 2007 (IMAP)

You need to purge the deleted messages, then they will be removed from the Server.

I have a google-hosted account, connected via IMAP to a fully patched Outlook 2007 installation running on a fully patched XP machine (all 32-bit). I have a bunch of labels/folders, with some of them configured to "download headers only", and the others configured to "download complete item with attachments". The main Inbox is in the latter group. Yet when new emails arrive, they don't always fully download. After clicking on those emails, the rest of it downloads, but the computer this is on is not connected via a very quick Internet connection, and it can and does take 20-120 seconds to finally display some emails, and it feels a lot longer than that.

Anyway, this is a new IMAP connection configured with a brand-new (created on Saturday) Outlook profile.

I was using the "Google Apps Sync" utility along with the google account, but I kept getting tons and tons of sync errors, so I had to switch to an IMAP account for email, and I'm trying out a few different options to sync the calendars and contacts. So if someone has a solution for the Google Apps Sync sync errors (unfortunately the errors were all "Generic" errors, so I never could figure out what the problem was - I opened a support ticket with Google support but thus far I haven't heard back from them after sending them the trace and log files they asked for).

Hi all
Note to you guys with IMAP and Outlook 2010.

When you DELETE now it works similar to POP3 -- the delete mail now gets moved to the DELETED folder in the IMAP folder which you then delete via the DELETE option in the menu or right mouse click on the item in the folder view.

On Outlook 2007 the item had a LINE through it which you then deleted via PURGE.

I think I prefer the newer method -- but beware if you run more than one computer as DELETE now really does mean DELETE and the item will appear in the deleted items folder.

If you have one computer with Outlook 2007 and another with Outlook 2010 you won't be able to see or DELETE the items in Outlook 2007 if you deleted them in Outlook 2010.

I don't think it's a real problem -- but just be aware of the differences in how the two releases work. (IMAP only -- POP3 works just like it did before)

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Outlook 2010 IMAP - Delete is different to 2007

I have just the opposite issue. Outlook 2010 eliminates messages from my list as soon as I delete them (and sends them to the appropriate folder, where I can still find them before purging). Is there any way I can get 2010 to act like 2007 and strikeout the deleted messages until I elect to purge them? None of my attempted manipulations under Account Settings has accomplished this end.

Hello all,

I run most of my daily operations off of my iMac and I run Entourage on my Mac for email.

I have two IMAP accounts that I access on a regular basis. In Entourage, I have an option in the advanced tab for each account that allows me to handle how I want to handle deleting messages from the IMAP server.

It's called "Delete Options" and I have selected "Move messages to the Deleted Items folder" selected.

This is great because I always have my deleted messages stored in this file for future reference. Note: I also have the "Purge Deleted Items" option selected to purge this folder every 180 days.

My problem is I use a PC when on the run and I would like it to handle deleting items the same way as my Mac. Right now, when ever I delete an item in Outlook, it does not go to the Deleted Items folder. It just magically disappears forever. Can someone help me out to get Outlook to act like my Entourage. Thanks.

Is there a way to make outlook delete mail in the sent folder with a imap account? I delete them and they stay, albeit with a strikethrough showing they are marked for deletion. But the only way to delete them so they are gone is go to my webmail page of the account and delete them there.

Answer:delete sent outlook mail imap account w/o doing it in webmail?

IMAP protocol's biggest advantage is also its biggest problem: the folders are and remain synchronized. You can move the sent messages to another folder to keep Sent folder empty, but in doing so both the Sent folders (local and server) will become and show empty.

Simple answer to your question: no, it's not possible. Check your provider if it is possible for you to use POP3 protocol, it would allow you deleting locally and keeping files on server and vice versa.

Hi Guys

I have an old hotmail account so I can use programs such as outlook to view my e-mails which is what I have been doing for many years though Outllook 2002,2003 and now 2007. Everything has been fine up until this week when I started getting a 0x800cccf0 error. I have looked this up on google and it tells me that it happens when you have more than one hotmail account I don't and that is only for outlook 2002. I have attached a jpeg so you can see the error message in full. I don't know if it is a hotmail problem or not my NTL account is working fine. The PW is correct as I can log onto the webmail.

Any Ideas

OK...Running Vista Home Basic on my Dell PC...5 days ago at 9:23pm I received my last email in Outlook (2007). Computer was idle at work. No problems for 4 years until now. 2 weeks ago went with a new ISP and did not change the codes for SMTP/Pop3/Imap because it was all working the exact same way--frankly, didn't think about it. Come in and there are no new emails. Hit Send/Receive and nothing happens. NO WAY, I get 50 a day. Go to Gmail account and it stopped at the same time. Find all new messages in Trash folder then all filters were removed to see what happened next. Emails were visible on screen (inbox) after that-and still are. After that, gmail icon started showing bottom right of my screen with my incoming emails--FROM 2009/10/11! All I had deleted last year and I am sure I emtied. My Outlook number of items in Inbox continues to grow every time I hit Send/Receive, lines "bounce" on screen as if items are going to appear but they don't. I get the outlook envelope showing emails from January to March 2012 downloading along with New Items in Mailbox icon as of today. I can hit on the email as it (icon) pops up and read it but if it passes it is totally GONE! Since gmail was fixed, about 7000 emails have gone into my inbox but not one of them are visible. I feel it will continue to download until we get to the present date as it is downloading from past to present. I have since entered the new ISP information, got the Congratulations on my test email... Read more

Answer:2007 Outlook/Gmail Account --Where are my emails going??

Any chance your old ISP was Rogers?

I thought that when you use POP , your email address is hosted and stored by the ISP.
Meaning, say your ISP was called Teleweb, your email address would have been [email protected].

I'm confused as to why you did not need to change the POP settings if you changed ISPs.

Im thinking your old ISP cancelled or disabled your email account, which may be contributing to the problem.

Also Gmail is webmail, so ISPs cannot influence how Gmail behaves. Were you forwarding your mail to the gmail account?

Answer:Need to setup IMAP MSN(hotmail) account

Hotmail does not support IMAP, and the only email clients that work with Hotmail POP are Microsoft's (OE, Outlook, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail).

However, it looks like you can do what you want by using a gmail workaround as described in this TechBlissOnline article.

I have this account setup in Windows Live Mail (WLM) (version 2000). It is setup in WLM as a POP3 account. But, if I send a message via WLM and then sign in to the account via web browser, I see the sent message there. This is clearly IMAP behavior, not POP3 behavior. A normal POP3 account would result in a message sent via WLM being captured in the "Sent items" folder in WLM but not synchronized to the account on the mail server and then appear in the online "Sent" folder.

Am I thinking clear here or has my brain encountered some fog? Is this a unique Microsoft Windows Live Hotmail behavior?

I use 1and1 for providing several email accounts and hosting a couple of websites. I've never had any problems until a few weeks ago, my wife noticed that there were a significant number of emails she wasn't receiving on one of her POP3 email accounts (loaded on Office for Mac 2011 set up on a Macbook Pro) The same account is set up another machine also as POP3 and the missing emails were not received on that one either. I rang the 1and1 helpline and they took a look and said that there were over 7000 messages sitting in the spam folder, but of course there is no spam folder in a POP3 email. I then deleted the POP3 account on the second machine and reinstalled it as an IMAP account and there were all the missing emails as state by 1and1! Is this normal, seems totally bizarre to me? The obvious solution is for my wife to delete her POP3 account and replace it with an IMAP account, but she has hundreds of business emails stored in different folders going back years and cannot risk losing them. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem plese?

Answer:Losing emails on POP3 which come through on IMAP account

I suspect it isn't a proper POP3 account, which would retrieve all incoming mail including spam, but retrieval by POP3 of messages in the Inbox of a web-based service. Messages which have been filtered out from the Inbox won't, as you've discovered, be downloaded.
IMAP will replicate all of the folders on the server in each of the computers with which it is set up.
What your wife could do initially, to safeguard her saved business mail, is to set up Apple Mail with IMAP to see exactly what is there that needs to be retained. If all her business messages are still there on the server, she could then change Outlook to IMAP too, but would have to set up her various existing folders on the IMAP server.

Hi,

I keep receiving notifications that my IMAP mail server is full and need to clean it up by deleting older emails.

I mainly use outlook 2007 to manage my 4 email accounts in 4 seperate folders and so I made .pst backup of all my email accounts but when I delete them from my IMAP and restore the back up there appear again in my IMAP server.

I have tried to make different (offline) folders but it seems I cannot restore a back up in to this. I also tried archiving my folders but since I use 4 different email accounts, the archive keeps overwriting the folders with the last email account selected.

All I want is: place my back up emails in a seperate (offline) folder per account so I can at least access my old emails in Outlook after I have deleted them from my imap server (I understand and accept that than I can only read those emails from my harddrive and not any more on my tablet or phone, but at leas I have one place where I can find them...).

Thanks!
Jappie

I know Outlook isn't the best client to be using, in terms of IMAP accounts, but I'm wondering if it is still possible, in my situation.

I am currently using Windows Live Mail across three computers. Because I have them linked to my Live account (I don't use the Live e-mail, though), my Calendar and Contacts are synced nicely across those three computers. My question is, if it is possible to keep this syncing feature, but with Outlook instead of Windows Live Mail? I know Windows Live Essentials has an Outlook plug-in....so would this do what I want, or is that just for getting Hotmail and the like to show up in Outlook 2007 as regular e-mail?

Hi there
Be careful with IMAP and Outlook 2010 as the DELETE really does DELETE stuff off the server.

In Outlook 2007 you got a line through the items and had to do EDIT==>PURGE to delete stuff off the server so be careful if you really DON'T want to physically delete mail from the server when using OUTLOOK 2010 - especially if you still need the email and are just testing OUTLOOK 2010 on one machine and need the email on other machine(s).

There might be settings to change this but I've basically used the defaults -- there is quite a bit of change from Outlook 2007 to 2010 (it's actually much nicer - more in keeping with the rest of Office 2010).

Cheers
jimbo

First of all, I don't understand PST very well! And, I hope I am posting in the correct forum.

We use Outlook 2003 with Exchange in Windows 2003 Server environment.
In addition to regular user email accounts, we have a couple IMAP accounts that several employees access and respond to the emails.
The primary user for one of these accounts is now not able to receive any new email for the IMAP account nor move an existing email from that Inbox to a subfolder. When we try to move an email, we get a message: "Can't move the items. The file .pst has reached its maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in this file, select some items that you no longer need, and then permanently delete them by pressing SHIFT+DELETE. You could also consider using the new Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) introduced with Outlook 2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders." I found an MS KB article that advised, because this is an IMAP account, it has the 2GB limit even thought it's Outlook 2003.

My question: Can I create a secondary PST file for this IMAP account in order to keep the current full PST file? For business reasons, it is important for us to keep the 2 GB of history that is in the current PST file, as well as to continue archiving email for this IMAP account.

I really appreciate any advice/suggestions/comments!
Thank you!

Answer:Outlook PST with IMAP Account

Im not sure about the not receiving IMAP emails in the inbox, there might be some mailbox size limit setup in exchange, and they are over it.

But for the moving emails from inbox to the personal folders:

You can have as many personal folders as you want, but has to be way below the 2gb mark. Honestly I would make sure the personal folders are less than 500mb.

Here is a link to create .pst folders: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829971

Hello,

I am running outlook 2003 on a windows xp machine. I configured outlook for a IMAP connection to gmail.

It was working fine for several months. Then, all of a sudden I noticed that when I deleted an email from my inbox or any other folder in outlook, it just disappeared. It didn't go the Deleted Items folder as it had been since I first configured the IMAP connection.

I've read many online posts of others having similar problems, with there deleted emails just disappearing.

I know this should work, because it DID work for me for several months.

I'm not aware of changing any settings, so not sure why this started happening.

Thanks for your help!

OK,

Anyone have success with Outlook IMAP in terms of bringing in a Gmail Account?

After reading all the setting I have:

1.  Set Gmail to use IMAP.
2.  Configured Outlook correctly with ports and setting.
3.  I then spin my wheels are messages say user id and password are not correct.
4.  Also set Gmail to "lower" security settings.
5.  Crazy thing is it works without problems with POP3.

Suggestions are welcomed.

I was quite shocked to see that my IMAP emails cant be categorized in Outlook 2007 (the emails dont have the right-click Categorize menu, and it doesnt show in the toolbar on top.)Now interestingly, in the Custom View, on selecting Categories, it then shows up and allows to categorize it. My question is, this looks like an unintentional feature in Outlook so will there be any problems if I continue using this? Also, how do I save the newly created view as the default view?Much appreciated.

Answer:Outlook 2007 and IMAP categories

Not sure.Do you have Office 2007 SP1 installed?  Try that and see if it's available by default.

Hi!

I am having a problem with my IMAP account in Outlook 2007. Most of the time everything works well, as expected. I send an email, the recipient gets it and the email is saved in the IMAP sent folder.

The problem I am having seems random as sometimes when I send an email, it doesn't get delivered and it ends up in the sent folder in the personal folders section. There are no errors when it gets sent and I don't notice anything different compared to when it sends properly.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Many apologies if this has already been discussed. I just switched my account from POP to IMAP because I want to view new email on both my phone and Outlook 2007 on my computer.

When I delete a IMAP message in Outlook, I would like the message moved to the Trash folder, then deleted from the Inbox (not just marked for deletion). You may ask, why not just use POP. First, I do not want to leave the messages on the server when using POP. If I use POP, then the phone will not see the message it it is downloaded to Outlook first.

I am guessing that a possible solution is to use IMAP on the phone, and POP in Outlook. What do you think?

Answer:Delete IMAP in Outlook

Hi wsmyth

If you use that configuration - IMAP on your phone and POP for Outlook 2007, make sure you configure Outlook 2007 to Leave a copy of the messages on the server. Otherwise, Outlook 2007 will delete the messages from the server when you download messages into Outlook 2007.
Tools > Account Settings > E-mail tab
Double click the e-mail account to Change or select the e-mail account and click the Change button.
More Settings button > Advanced tab
Place a check mark in: Leave a copy of messages on the server
OK > Next > Finish > Close to save and close.
That configuration should work, set it up and send yourself a few Test messages to test it.

Okay, I have had this problem several times and now I want to know what is causing the problem. In outlook you can add certain folder to your favorites so that they appear like short cuts at the top of the navigation window. But from time to time different imap short cuts don't appear and then I have to close and restart to get the short cuts to reappear.

Any ideas as to why?

Answer:Outlook 2010 and IMAP account

Also if you go to the inbox, if that is one in your favorites, and right click it gives you the option to remove from favorites even though it is not displayed. After removing and adding will also show them back at the top. But this is a pain in the back side.

I have an Exchange account and an IMAP account, both of which I access using Outlook. However, when I connect remotely to the network using my RDC connection and open Outlook I have problems.

First, I get a message like "file C:\Docs and Setts\blah\Local Setts\App Data\MS\Outlook\[email protected] could not be found" where [email protected] is the name I have given the IMAP account.

Secondly, I can not send emails at all. They remain stuck in the outbox.

If I remove the IMAP account I can send the emails again.

I have no such problems on my own PC running win2000 Pro and Outlook 2003, connecting to the same Exchange server on the same network.

The remote server is using Windows Server 2000 and Outlook 2003.

Does anyone know of a bug which might cause this problem?

I just switched from POP to IMAP for Outlook 2007. I see that there was a thread about my issue prior that is closed.

I delete a message and then it puts the strikeout line and then since I have it set to "Group message for deletion" it groups the deleted message at the bottom. Problem is they end up being deleted and are not in any trash or deleted folder.

I want to be able to manually delete them as I still refer back. Can you tell me how to set it up so that they go into a trash/deleted folder and stay there until I delete them?

Thanks

Hello,

I have a few usrs who are using Outlook 2007 with our IMAP server reporting issues that their Outlook goes into Offline mode, and is not able to send/receive (since it is in offline mode).

How do you all feel about configuring cached mode in Outlook 2007 with IMAP instead of Exchange?

Thanks for your time,

Matt Brown

Answer:Using Cached mode in Outlook 2007 with IMAP?

I'm confused, aren't they downloading the emails with imap? Cached mode doesn't allow you to send when offline. It will just sit in your outbox, just as IMAP will when offline. Then when it connects the email will send.

I am unable to get the Junk Filter to work with my Outlook 2007 using an IMAP E-mail account. The junk filter works fine with pop3.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I do have send/receive setup to download full messages, not just headers.

We are using Dreamhost for our e-mail.

I have tried this on three computers with 2 e-mail accounts. Our OL2007 is full licensed.

I really have no idea what to do. I have tried using google to get some answers. Am I missing something?
Thanks

I have Microsoft Outlook 2007 installed and use IMAP for all my mail accounts. When I updated to Windows 7 I had to reinstall Outlook and thus download all the headers again. I ended up downloading everything again, but I would want to prevent this in the future. Is there a way to import my Microsoft Office Outlook Personal Folders (.pst) or Offline Folder (.ost) files into the new installation, so I don't have to download all the headers again?

I'm using outlook 2007 and IMAP to access my email account. Occasionally, my mailbox reaches >90% of the quota, at which point, when initially connecting to the server (eg: initally, when clicking on an unread message, or hitting the check mail button) I get a popup stating that my quota at XX%.

The problem is, this message just keeps popping up continuously, and every time it does outlook freezes till I acknowledge the message box by clicking OK. For instance, when I first connect, when outlook downloads all the headers

1. The message box appears
2. Outlook pauses the download
3. I hit ok to continue

and this repeats about 10-15 times until outlook has finished the downloading. The problem is the pause in step 2, I HAVE to do 10-15 acknowledgements just to download my mail. Which is highly annoying

What I want to know is

(a) Is there a way for the outlook client to only show these messages ONCE
(b) If this is a server push that cannot be ignored (although I know its probably a bad idea to do so), is there a way to IGNORE any alert messages, or at least not have it block the main application.

Answer:Outlook 2007 not working with imap Gmail

How are you accessing the setup wizard? Do you already have Outlook set up for another email account, or is this the first email account you are trying to create?
If it's the first account being set up in Outlook, go to Control Panel>Mail, then configure a new profile and try setting it up that way. If you are already using Outlook for another email account and want to add Gmail, in Outlook go to Tools>Account Settings.

This may be helpful. I suspect you may be leaving out a step or two: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/microsoft-office/use-gmail-imap-in-microsoft-outlook-2007/

Hi, I did a test to see if I could restore emails to a gmail account via IMAP if they were backed up in outlook and the gmail account was empty. When I backed up the emails in outlook, I did so by syncing my gmail account with the '[Gmail]/All mail folder' in outlook (including email bodies and attachments). I next deleted all the emails in my gmail account. This subsequently led to the deletion of emails in outlook as you would expect. Finally I copied backups of all emails I made from the Outlook [Gmail]/All mail folder back to that folder

What happens next is that the emails sync back to gmail from outlook but they go back to the 'all mail' folder in gmail. Inbox and sent items remain empty. Is there any way to fix it so that inbox and sent items are repopulated in gmail? Thanks

I'm having a strange problem with my IMAP account in outlook 2013. My account does not download my mails after I open the program. I need to go to the send/receive tab and click the  'update folders' button.

I've tried deleting and re-installing the imap account. It also does not fetch the mails when I use the F9 button.
I'm using Win7 (64bit) and Office 2013 Professional Plus (32bit), both office and Windows are up to date according to windows update.

Help would be very much appreciated.

Hi all, again!Does anyone know how in Outlook 97 mail to make an IMAP account the default inbox? At the moment when I open Outlook it opens the default Inbox, which would be fine if it were a POP account.I then have to click on my mail [email protected]...to read my msgs.I've heard that you can't have an IMAP account as the default Inbox, but is there anyway of getting outlook to open my Inbox first? Thanks!

Answer:Outlook default mailbox with IMAP account?

Outlook will create the IMAP inbox separately from the pop inbox. It is a long time since I used Outlook 97 but you should be able to go to Tools - Options - Under Options, select the tab called Other. Under this tab, select the Advanced button. You should be able to browse to change the folder you want Outlook to start up in and that should show the IMAP inbox.

Hi everyone

I tried to use Outlook 2002 to access my hotmail. I used the POP3 settings, got it to work, and hit send/receive. Now none of my emails from my Inbox are in my hotmail account when I use my web login. Why did it do this and how do I reverse it? I tried to find some answers on the Microsoft site but they give pretty generic answers there. The answers I've got here in the past were much better.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Answer:Hotmail + Outlook 2002 = no emails at Hotmail site

Try going to Tools > Email Accounts > View or change existing accounts > Select your account and click Change > Click More Settings > Advanced tab. From here there should be a check box that allows you to set whether you want your emails to be left on the server.

I recently changed my Rackspace email from POP to IMAP; unfortunately, the webmail interface is very limited and we've had to revert to Outlook 2007 for the features we need. However, we're experiencing a problem with outgoing email: mail periodically gets 'stuck' in the outbox. This isn't like the outbox problems I've seen posted elsewhere, as mail will be sent correctly for a time, and then after a while it will begin to bet stuck. Closing Outlook and re-starting it will cause the email to go out, but I often forget to check the outbox to see if there's any mail stuck there. I've turned off outbound email scanning on Norton 2012, but still having the problem. When I do a manual Send/Receive, I get a message saying that the sending was completed successfully, but the mail's still in the outbox. I never had this problem when we used Outlook 2007 for Rackspace POP mail. Any ideas? Thanks -

Hi:

I am using Outlook 2007 with Vista to manage three IAMP e-mail accounts. They are setup correctly and work normally (although somewhat slow). All three accounts are setup so that they download all messages in each of their Inbox to the computer every 10 minutes and sync all folders every 240 minutes also downloading all content.

Every now and then, indistinct of account, the Inbox folder shows that there is an unread message. Clicking on the folder should show all the messages in that folder including the unread one in bold. When clicking, the new message does not appear and the (1) beside the folder name disappears. When I login through a webmail service, the new e-mail is still in the inbox. It never downloaded to Outlook but Outlook thought it did so it never shows.

After a few minutes, the folder appears again as if there was a new message. Again, when clicking on the folder, the message doesn't download or show. It goes on like this for ever. As a matter of fact, I have not been able to get any of these "problem" messages to download. I have to process them through webmail.

I would like to be able to "repair" the folder list. That is, for Outlook to "forget" everything about that folder and download all messages in the folder. That should correct this undownloaded-ghost message. Is this possible in Outlook? How is it done?

Thanks,

Rodrigo

Hi all

I haven't discovered a way yet of switching a POP3 account to IMAP without deleting and re-defining the email account in Outlook 2010.

IMAP is a better way if you access the same email account from multiple machines. If the account was originally defined with POP3 there doesn't seem any mechanism to change it to IMAP without deleting and re-creating the entire account.

This means backing up and restoring all the messages, address books etc before doing this -- a bit of a pain if you have to do this for 50 - 100 users and their email accounts.

Any quick fix or have I missed something.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Outlook 2010 cannot change POP3 account to IMAP

You haven't missed anything, as far as I know there is no way to change pop to imap.

A bit of a warning though, in the past when I have switched users from pop to imap and I added the additional IMAP account then moved the stuff from the pop account folders to the IMAP, sometimes email etc just disappears completely despite saying it had copied.

Hi folks -

I'm using Outlook 2007 and an IMAP server through Godaddy (which I am quickly disliking after many years). I run several accounts, two of which are IMAP (the others are POP). This morning, all of a sudden, the previously retrieved messages on ONE of the IMAP accounts no longer appear in Outlook, despite being on the server -- I can see all of them via webmail. There is only one folder - the Inbox. The other IMAP account still functions normally (which is also through Godaddy), and all my saved folders that reside locally all function normally too -- none of that mail is gone as best I can tell.

I can receive new mail without issue, and send mail as well, but cannot access the old mail via Outlook. I don't get any error messages, I haven't changed any settings, and I've run Microsoft's "Outlook 2007 Inbox Repair Tool" - SCANPST on all my PST files. The tool found errors in all the files, and it repaired them, but that has not changed a thing.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Dave

Answer:Outlook 2007 & IMAP: no longer displays old mail that is on the server

Hello ShrimpBurrito -

Perhaps you have a filter set? Look here:

Click on the View tab.
Click on View Settings icon (near the left side of ribbon toolbar); the Advanced View Settnigs: Messages window opens.
Click the Filter button; the Filter window opens.
Click on the More Choices tab.
Be sure to deselect (uncheck) Only items that are:
Click OK, click OK.

Did that work? If not, perhaps GoDaddy has a setting that they changed.

I am trying to set up my Gmail account in Outlook 2010 using IMAP. In previous versions of Outlook, when I hit "delete" in Outlook, the message left the ?Inbox,? but was still in the ?All Mail? folder (I believe it removed the label "Inbox" from the message). However, in Outlook 2010, the message is moved to ?Deleted Items? and is no longer in ?Inbox? or ?All Mail.? So there is no longer a copy archived to "All Mail." I have read the other posts concerning this issue, none of which work. If there is a solution, please help.

Use Office Outlook on your desktop as your email app instead of windows 10 Mail-Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) and select Office's Outlook as your default. The win 10 Mail app is for webmail and home user use. You might need it for your Microsoft webmail Account but use Office Outlook as your mail email program for POP mail. Office Outlook and Outlook.com are unrelated in spite of the recycled name.

Hi guys, as I am using both a laptop and tablet to check email I have set up both devices with imap accounts.

The issue is that I don't want to lose all my old folders and email from the old pop3 account and I can't find a way to move or copy them to the newly created account on my laptop so I'd like to leave the old account, inactive, in Outlook.

Also, I don't want to get messages into two different folders.

Is there a way to disable the old pop3 account without removing it?

I have tried deleting the password so it won't send/receive from that account but all I get is the constant "enter password" box which is naturally not an ideal state of affairs.

I'd appreciate any advice users can offer.

Thanks in advance,
Jo

PS it probably isn't relevant but FYI the tablet is a Motorola Xoom Android and the laptop is an Asus running Win 7 Home Premium and Outlook 2010 as in the subject line.

you can simply move the emails of your pop account by going to "edit" on the top left corner and "select all" you'll see that all your emails are selected, then right click and select "move to folder" and move it to your IMAP mails location. and doing this may allow you to remove the pop3 account.

either way, let us know what you get.

I have a hotmail account, but I tried setting it up in MS Outlook. I can now recieve emails in Outlook, but I can't send anything, as it just stays in the Outbox.
What is more troubling is that my entire inbox has disappeared from my hotmail account. How can I get back my emails in my hotmail account?

Answer:Emails have disappeared from hotmail account

Don't know what happened with Outlook, but you should still be able to use web mail.

I've scoured the Internet for solutions, and while I've given countless attempts to no avail, I want to give this one last try.

I've mainly tried to use Outlook 2002 (as that's the version I have) by connecting it to my original email account. That went smoothly. Then I exported all my messages to a .pst file. Though that had some hiccups along the way, that also went smoothly. I then connected Outlook 2002 to my new email address - it received the few messages that were already there, so that was fine.

I then imported my original email messages via the .pst file into my new account (still in Outlook). All the emails showed up, in the right folders and perfect. The only problem now, is getting the Hotmail web client to recognize these.

I also forwarded all the messages as attachments as one email message and tried moving the attachments, but (though this sounds incredibly picky), it did not preserve the timestamps.

I've seen Windows Live Mail and am reluctant to use it, though I will if I have no other choice.

So, if there's any way at all to transfer my email messages -no matter how long-winded- that'd be great! If not, I'll have to cope with Live Mail or some other client, or without those timestamps.

If it's relevant, I am running Windows XP (SP2). If there are any other details I need to/should provide, I'm perfectly willing.

Thanks in advance!

hi, could someone help. I am getting double emails. I got screen asking for Pop up email password and wrote there my password, started to receive emails doubled. I am not a technical person, could someone pls help and explain in a simple way, what to do

Answer:double emails from Hotmail account

You need to specify whether you use Hotmail on the web (ie you only use their website for Hotmail) or you have set it up to use with an email client (eg Office Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird) on your computer.

this has been since I updated to windows 10 and I cant seem to find any of my many emails from a date before the date of june 12

Answer:Why have all my emails on my Hotmail account been deleted?

Are you using the email app or accessing it through a browser? If you're using the app, it's likely that you just need to sync your account.

i'm pulling my hair out on this one - I'm running windows 7 64 bit, and i had to do a complete re-install of win 7 and everything else.

I've had to re-install microsoft office outlook 2007 before, on this very computer and have not had this issue, plus i still have it installed on a laptop and copying the settings from the laptop installation do not work.

The problem - when i enter the gmail email address, it automatically finds the server and sets the account up as a pop3 acct. When i insert the comcast email addresses it sets them up as imap accounts and sets up separate folders for them, so to check my inboxes i have to scroll all the way down the navigation pane. On my laptop outlook seven set the comcast accts up as mail.comcast.net accts and incoming emails just pop into the one inbox where my pop3 emails show up.

i've googled the bejesus out of this, and none of the "change" the folder instructions work - there is no "change folder" button where all the instructions show it residing, in the bottom box on the "data" page of account settings. When i try to use the "change" selection at the top of the box listing the email accts, i cannot change the folder address for the imap accts.

When i try to set the accounts up manually as "mail.comcast.net" accounts, they will connect or log on to the server but not succeed in sending a test message.

I'm not a software engineer but neither am i a complete fred flintstone of em... Read more

I have a Gmail IMAP/MS Outlook 2007 issue here that I have been trying to figure out for months now.

Here's the issue: Ever Other message I delete from Outlook 2007 that is using Gmail IMAP service show the following error message attached below

"The item cannot be deleted. It was either moved or already deleted, or access was denied."

After doing some tweaking and research on my own I have seem to locate one odd walk around with this error. Whenever I disable email protection within NOD32 AV the error messages stop. So that told me that it may be a issue within Eset NOD32 AV. However, after disabling every single scanner the email protection I am unable to figure out a solution, other then using a different AV product. Which I do not want to do, as I prefer using NOD32.

Has anyone else had a issue like this one and figure out a fix yet?

FYI: I have also tweaked with GMail IMAP settings within Gmail Settings.

TIA

I may have have found a solution to this problem. Testing it right now for other possible issues this may cause.

How can I delete over 5000 Hotmail emails at once?

Right now I only know how to delete one page at a time which is about 35 emails. I have wireless broadband which is slow, and I don't want to have to delete over 600 pages. I like my email address and don't want to have to get a new one, but I want to start fresh. I also want to delete all my junk mail at once.

I do want to keep my folders and what is in them. If I have to contact Hotmail, how would I do that?

Thanks for your help!

P.S.-What are tags? (Below it says I can add 5 tags.)

Answer:How can I delete over 5000 Hotmail emails at once?

You could download and install windows live mail and setup
your hotmail account on that.
Then download the emails, probably take a while.
Click one email, then click edit/select all and delete them.

Tags are basically keywords that reflect the content of your post.
They help with searching, but you don't have to enter them

I have a 3 year old Compaq Laptop computer that runs the Vista operating system. I generally use the Firefox browser, but occasionally use Internet Explorer.
I did download Service Pack 2 last week. I also updated Firefox to the newest version. Shortly after that I noticed that my Hotmail account wouldn't work properly. It will go to my inbox and I can see all of my new emails, but when I click on them nothing happens. I tried this if Firefox and when that didn't work, I tried it in Explorer and it also didn't work there. I went back last night and changed to the earlier Firefox version and thought the problem was solved. The email seemed to be working correctly. Then this morning, it was back to a frozen inbox. I also lost my Swagbucks and Google toolbars on Firefox and when I tried to download them again, neither was successful.
Please help me if you can.
Thank you.

Answer:Can not open or delete Hotmail emails

The toolbars may not be compatible with the new version of Firefox yet and were disabled because of this when you upgraded. It's up to the toolbar developers to upgrade their toolbars for the new Firefox. It may take a little while since FF 4 just came out last week.

It's possible that the Hotmail website is having problems since it's not working in either browser. I would contact them at this point.

Lumia521 May we know what error prompt, if any, are you encountering?
Whenever I encounter syncing problems, I just quickly turn Airplane mode on and off, effectively resetting all data connections (either both 3G (4G) and WiFi or either 3G (4G) or WiFi). In a few moments, all my email accounts (and other apps) begin syncing successfully.

Hi guys, my hotmail account has recently begun to send out spam mails (I know this because of the tons of Postmaster Delivery mails I get every morning. I have checked my outbox, and unfortunately I see that it is truly this account that is sending out the mails, and not merely a spoof. I have already changed my password, but can't tell whether it has made a difference as of now.

I have not been able to identify what is the trojan/worm responsible for this. I used Spybot Search and Destroy in both normal and Safe mode, but it didn't turn up anything of note. Would really appreciate your help and advice on this issue!

Cheers!

Welcome to TSF gosulation,

The logs show a malware worm startup loading there. Let's start some repairs then check after.

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.
