Desktop don't boot anymore...

Question: Desktop don't boot anymore...

Hi all, as you can see, I have an old HP Desktop Model but it ran well so far... http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c02575960 usually during the night, I put the PC in Power Safe mode by clicking the function key and 2, so the PC goes down into a ?sleep mode? and the led power button on the top front right of the tower changes from blue to amber. To reanimate the PC, I just have to move the mouse or press a keySo, I did the last time, the power button changed to blue again, I could hear the HD spinning, the fan as well but the screen stayed black. After a few minutes, I pushed the power button as long, until the PC turned off. Now, when I push the power button again, the HD starts spinning (but it sounds terrible ?), the fan starts as well BUT der power button has no light. This status won?t change after 1 hours?I found one post, which describes problems with that motherboard?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/n-alvorix-rs880-uatx-alvorix-mot...Is there any help or am I lost?Best regards, Rolf

Preferred Solution: Desktop don't boot anymore...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone.
First of all sorry for my bad english, and sorry if this isn't the right forum. This is my first post here. I hope I can explain myself good enough, so you guys understand my problem, and hopefully are able to help me.
I've a problem since a week. My self build desktop of 2 years old had some troubles while booting. I hit the power button and every led goes on, all the fans were spinning, but the PC itself wasn't booting.
With some patience (30 secs) it would boot after all.
Also the monitor said: No signal, entering sleep mode.
But today he didn't do that. I put it on and waited like 10 mins, all fans were spinning, all lights on, but pc wasn't booting.
So I went searching for solutions and allready did those things without succes.

Remove CMOS battery for 30 mins, put it back in
CMOS reset (button on my mobo)
Remove power cable and hold on button for 60 sec.
Change RAM from slots (have 2 x 8 GB RAM and 4 slots)
I also tried running it on 1 RAM.
Boot without RAM, fans are spinning, leds burning, but than he shuts itself down after a minute and restarts.

I will change the CMOS battery tomorrow, a battery like that is pretty cheap and it's worth a try...
I've no idea what the problem is or how to solve it.
Some extra info:
When the pc isn't booting and I force it to shut down by holding de power button for 5 sec, it shuts down but the LED of my mouse keeps burning.
In the past he also booted itself on the most random moments, so not on a specific time or da... Read more

Answer:Desktop won't boot anymore, no signal at monitor

Hi,
Just to confirm you aren't reaching any sort of boot screen or unable to get to your BIOS options? Are you able to test the hard drive in another machine or alternatively have a backup drive to test in this PC? This would rule out the hard disk as having any issues.

I wanted to set up Ubuntu on my computer, and followed the instructions in the first answer to this thread: dual boot - How to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7/8 - Ask Ubuntu

As instructed, I created a logical partition using EaseUS software. I did this on my H:/ drive, a hard disk drive (whereas Windows 7 was installed on C:, and SSD).

After a mandatory reboot for the new partition changes, I did not immediately go to install Ubuntu, although I had Live USB to do so. Instead, if I remember properly, I booted into Windows to make sure everything was OK, but only to find out that some "Windows could not boot properly", giving me the option to 'Launch Startup Repair' - which I did, but to no avail. All it did was reported that some 2 system files were missing or corrupt.

I then installed Ubuntu on a third drive because I still needed it to perform some benchmarking. I did this using the 'install alongside windows 7' option.
But now that I don't need Ubuntu anymore, all I am interested in is getting back to Windows, while keeping all the files and programs intact.

How should I go about fixing this? Delete the logical partition on the other drive? I also have that Windows installation CD, and I'm thinking its repair options could be useful - but not having a whole lot of self-confidence, I don't know what steps exactly to take to preserve my files.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,
yesterday I wanted to install Windows 10 Enterprise on my T1650 test machine. Before doing so, I successfully updated the BIOS to A20. After updating BIOS, I've enabled UEFI + Secure Mode, saved the changes and... couldn't start the PC anymore. When turning the PC on, monitor immediately goes into power saving mode, there is obviously no signal coming from the PC. Removed the Nvidia Quadro NVS 300 and plugged the monitor into board's VGA slot, no success. Tried to clear the CMOS (battery out, jumpers), nothing helped.
Any ideas?

Answer:I cant even get to my desktop anymore

You might try starting the computer in 'Safe Mode' by gently, continously tapping the F8 key while it is booting.. when the black screen with white writing comes up use the arrow keys to move to 'Last Known Good Configuration' option, click the enter key and let the computer do it's thing. Let us know if this is of any help.

Hi there
for a whole host of apps you don't really need the desktop anymore.

struggling with Win8 for a while it DOES have a logic to it and even with a whole host of apps I never in a million years thought I'd be writing this.

1) Get rid of all the useless metro stuff you don't want.

2) Be TOTALLY ruthless with what you pin to the start menu -- and organise by WHAT YOU USE - rather than application --for example I have EXCEL in the same group as Notepad and Cmd prompt -- if I use these apps like this there's no reason to leave say EXCEL in the MS office group - especially if I don't use very often other programs in that group.

3) Replace IE invasive version (metro) with the Normal IE on the start screen.

Now good to go. At boot you get your customized start screen -- now say I want EXCEL I just click on it.
IF I did it the "Classical Way" I'd have to click on Start, then Ms office apps -- then Ms EXCEL (3 actions from boot rather than 1 !!.
The trick is to arrange the start screen properly for HOW YOU WORK.

This is NOT an OOBE experience so setting it up will take time and effort and we do need more customisation properties for the start screen -- but all those Start button lovers -- try thinking in the new way and you will be surprised.

Enc screen shot of my start screen.

Cheers

Hello,

I am studying for my A+ certification and I wanted to try to install Recovery Console on my PC. I set the CMOS boot order to first boot from the CD ROM drive. I put my XP Professional installation CD in and restarted the computer. Once the XP setup program started running it looked like it was copying files, which scared me because I thought it would ask me before it did anything. So then eventually it got to a menu screen and I decided to press F3 and quit the setup, without installing Recovery Console. I went back into CMOS and reset the boot order to boot from the hard disk drive again, then saved and exited. However now it won't let me boot into Windows anymore, but rather prompts me to insert a bootable floppy or CD-ROM, which is obviously not what I want. I think I may have erased or copied over Boot.ini, and possibly other files. I want to go back to my previous settings before any of this occurred, and I need to keep all of my previous data, settings, programs, etc... in other words I don't want anything erased or changed at all. I'm hoping somebody can provide me step-by-step instructions on how to do this. I would greatly appreciate any help. I am using Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3. I built the PC myself, it is not a store bought PC.

In last night before went to zzz was going to check emails and some game news with my Desktop Pc from Pc Gamer website, but browser didn't get connection to net even Steam was Online and Laptop next to me online as well. Laptop is connected to Modem with Ethernet Cable and was working so went to zzz and hoped that it's similar when only browser can't connect, but Steam can. Today when launched my Desktop Rig it seems that browser still can't connect and Steam notifies about launching as admin, but doesn't go to phase where u put username & pw,but Rig just loads for a moment and then nothing.

Raptr client also doesn't even go to login screen & would inform that can't connect to net,but instead gives pop up window about raptrstub log file for details. This is so weird and never happened before..At 1st i thought that my Desktop Pc's integrated network card is blown cause still after 8hrs of zzz can't connect and espesially weird and scary now when applications don't even go to login phase "client showing on screen".

This scary problem came now just before i've got rest of the components together for building new Rig. I'm only missing Cpu & Motherboard & get them in early next month. Did you run the network troubleshooter from right clicking the network icon in System tray?

Go over your install closely using the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 which will uncover most problems.

Do you have a wireless adapter you can try to compare? Change the ethernet cable? Try another ethernet port?

Let me preface by saying that im not sure if this is the right thread.

But basically my new desktop was working fine for two hours. Now it won't even start.

I have:
ASUS Motherboard
500W PSU
GTX 260 graphics card
AMD dual core 3.0GHz

And Windows 7.

I was halfway through trying to set up a network to transfer stuff from my laptop when my screen went black and my computer just shut off completely. I turn on the switch and it lights up for a second at most and then switches off again. Nothing shows up on the monitor, only the lights on the desktop turn on.

It seems kind of strange that it would work for only two hours!

If you could help that would be great. Feel free to request more information.

Answer:Desktop won't turn on anymore

what about sounds when you power up, does the drives and fans seems to be working properly? Since it is a new desktop, you may want to check with the manufacturers support since it is under warranty and you want to at least get this issue on record in case of further problems.

Last nite, I picked up a worm or virus. It added doser.exe, and a dialer, and some others to my Windows/system32 folder. I went into safe mode and got them out.

But now, I can't get any images on my desktop. It doesn't even show an option to do it from the properties window. The browse button is greyed out. However, it DOES show the background right after it boot up. At that time, there are no icons. Then the background becomes a solid color and the icons appear. Otherwise, the system SEEMS to be running fine.

Wha chu think?

Answer:Cant Remote Desktop Anymore

I've had some luck with this kind of situation (I use RDP a LOT on my home LAN) in going to the Remote tab in the System control panel widget, and toggling remote connections radio buttons (click the "don't allow" button, then click Apply; then click the "Allow remote" button, then click Apply again). I think there may be some use of SIDs in the background to identify remote connections and when upgrades happen, SIDs change. Toggling the RDP settings appears to refresh this stuff, and (sometimes) puts it back to rights.

Try it: it only takes a minute or so, and you'll know very quickly whether or not it helps your situation. If so, good; if not, other fixes will be needed.

Hi all,A while back my computer started freezing regularly and required a restart. I put it down to a loose connection somewhere, but now it won't turn on at all after wiggling wires around, no fans or noises of any sort, only a light on the motherboard turns on. The only things I can think of doing are replacing the lithium battery and the power supply, but I don't really know anything about troubleshooting and don't want to buy a new one if it won't fix the problem.Setup is:ms7681 (ver2.0)hd57704 x corsair xms3corsair tx650i7 2600k (I think, although it wasn't overclocked)Thanks in advance for any help

Hi, I'm using msft broadband network home wi-fi modem with a laptop with winxp and my desktop win98. I can't seem to access my desktop or printer now, I get this message saying..." //desktop is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource, contract the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." what the $%# is that all about??? I been working on this all night, the desktop is accessing the laptop fine, all files and printers are still set as "shared" but the laptop can't bring up the desktop or printer at all, I don't get it! (my msft broadband utility did just upgrade itself recently) I've rebooted, turned off NAV, help!!!

Answer:can't access printer and desktop anymore?!

Sounds like you have a permissions issue. Do you have an account on the desktop with the same name/password as you use to logon to the laptop? Do you have the resources in question shared on the desktop?

So before i'd just watch windows start.....the screen with the fogged out blue windows background and my Circular icon show for a few seconds, then I'm automatically in.

Now 3 months after upgraded to 10, instead of that smooth logon, it takes me to a damn Environmental background (beaches, forests and such, it keeps changing) then I have to click it.....then it bring me to Sign-in.....then i have to click that. It's like a whole damn process when all I want it to do is startup and load to desktop without having to click through menus. Does anyone know how to disable this and I already did the netplwiz thing and unchecked Users must enter name and password.

Hi there,

Another challenge for the experts ! Without going into too much detail, by moving hard disks around etc. I managed to screw up my 8.1 boot settings.
Partition-wise I should be ok as the 350mb "system" partition is still there, containing all necessary files.
System will however go straight for automatic repair and tell me it was not able to repair the problem.
bootrec /scanos returns 0. Bcd file seems fine when I take it through bcdedit. Renaming the bcd file and trying to rebuild one doesn't work either as it says there's no installation found.

I did not touch any partitions nor files btw, everything is still there and in tact as far as I know.

Thx in advance !

Hi,

I just upgraded my router from a b series smc to a D-link Xtreme G.
I am totally happy with the router and it is so much faster, but unfortunately ever since the remote desktop is not working.

Mind you I also reinstalled windows and all the apps.

Here is what I did after I reimaged the hard drive and attached the new router:

0. Enabled remote desktop on the host machine.
1. Forwarded TCP ports: 80 and 3389 on my router to the ip of the machine I would like to use as remote desktop host: (192.168.0.100)
2. Turned off the Windows firewall
3. Added the local ip address of my laptop to the "allowed addresses in Norton Internet Security" (I using the laptop as a Remote Desktop Client)

On remote desktop of the laptop I can enter 192.168.0.100 and it will connect, but when I enter the global ip address it does not find the server.

I can not think of anything else to do concidering it was working smoothly just a few days ago with the same settings on another router (and the old OS)

Please help!

Today, for the first time, when I started my computer, the icons on the desktop (I use the old-style desktop) had shifted such that there was nothing in the top left corner. And I cannot drag anything up there anymore - there's this blank spot where I always used to keep my "My Documents" user profile folder. I turned off the option to be able to point up there and switch apps, and it didn't help. I have googled like mad and can't find anyone reporting this weird issue. Has it happened to anybody else?

I used to be able to Map my Win95 laptop as a drive on my WinME desktop using Ethernet cables to a hub. Now I cannot see the laptop in Network Neighborhood or connect.

I used to have a PCI Ethernet card, but switched to a D-Link DUB-E100 USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter to save resources. I suspect this might be the problem. Deleted the listing for the old PCI Ethernet card from Network on the WinME desktop, in case that was conflicting.

My daughter's WinXP laptop will connect to the WinME desktop, so the network hub and cables, and the WinME Network setup seems fine.
Neither the WinXP machine or the WinME machine can see the Win95 laptop on the Network.

Win95 laptop has a 3Com EtherLink LAN PC Card (3C589D). Light is on on cable that connects to it. Lights on Hub show activity for both machines.

This is ridiculous! By adding entries to both the hosts and lmhosts files, I can now ping by machine name, as well as IP address, BUT I still can't Map Network Drive!

Talk about frustration!

Hi, we have both a desktop computer and 2 laptops connected to the internet via wireless. The internet connection on the desktop has been funny since we put it on wireless, sometimes working sometimes not. Yesterday afternoon the desktop lost the internet connection altogether and is saying its not connected to the internet. We know the internet is working as the laptops are fine. We have tried rebooting the router and that didn't work and also have taken the internet cable from the router and put it directly into the desktop but the computer still says it isn't connected. The only anti-virus on the computer is a few years old but it still scanned and came up negative for viruses. As i said it is an old version but we can't get one off the internet as it won't connect. Not sure what else to do, please help!

Hi to everybody!
Windows Search is not working anymore on my PC. When I search using the box in Start Menu and I click on "search everywhere", it appears Google Deskto Search page in my browser. I want to disable Google Desktop Search and have Windows Search as my default desktop search engine again. How can I do it?
Thanks for helping!
Giancarlo Perlo - Italy

Answer:Windows Desktop search is not working anymore

Uninstall Google Desktop Search in Programs and Features.

In fact I would uninstall everything except Google Messenger if you use it, since you don't need a program to use Google as (recommended) default search in your browser and the updater is known spyware.

Then rebuild the index: Index - Rebuild - Windows 7 Forums

Since recently, I can't drag en drop icons from my start menu to my desktop anymore... When I click the icon and drag it to the desktop, I see it on the desktop, with the overlay that a shortcut will be created there, but when I release the mouse button, the round waiting cursor appears for a second, and then the shortcut is gone again. After that, I can't even start dragging a shortcut from the startmenu, until I restart the explorer process.

Creating shortcuts "from scratch" on my desktop works perfectly.

My system:

Mainboard: MSI H110 PC MATE
Processor: I7-6700

I have an excel file that I use almost daily. I put it on my Desktop as a shortcut. Up until about three days ago whenever I needed to use it I double clicked it and it opened in MS Excel. Now when I double click it all I get is:"The windows installer failed to install the program associated with this file. Please contact your system administrator."If I open excel first and then go to File, Open, and select the file I want (the same as the desktop shortcut) it opens with no problem.I have tried putting another excel file on the Desktop as a shortcut but get another message as"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Microsoft Office Professional disk and click OK".What has happened?

After installing a new theme, I noticed later on that all the icons on the taskbar, explorer, and the desktop were missing. The programs all work fine, with the title showing, but explorer is very laggy and it's incredibly hard to navigate through my picture folder without thumbnails.

And for some reason, I cannot open the start menu from the taskbar.

Photo Album - Imgur

I tried multiple system restores, and that did not fix the problem.

Thanks for answering, it's very much appreciated.

Answer:All icons on explorer, taskbar, and desktop are not showing anymore.

Hello and welcome,

You've done multiple system restores and get the same theme? Or what happens?

Click on start, and on the search bar type in cmd, once it appears right-click it and select run as administrator, upon the prompt type in sfc /scannow, it will request to scan on restart, do so.

Give an update please.

I think the OS is XP Home with SP3.  Once Microsoft support for XP ended, I used it just for old games, and it worked fine, but now when I turn it on, all I get on the monitor is
RV370 P/N 113-A62801-106 BIOS
This is a computer that I bought from Dell, but it's been so long that I can't find the disks that came with it.

What I have tried:
Replaced the internal battery, but nothing changed; and although I was getting in over my head, I burned XP_rec_con.iso to a CD and tried to start with it in the drive, but got the same result as before.  Most likely BIOS is not set up to boot first from the CD drive.  Additionally, although I have tried two different keyboards--one, the one I am using to write this, I am unable to type anything that will show up on the screen. I have plugged the keyboards into two different USB ports, one on the front and one on the back of the computer.

My question is: Whether the message I am getting on the monitor indicates what may be wrong and how serious that might be. Is it likely that even a visit to a PC repair shop would be useless?  (I realize that there may be no definitive answer to that question and will just give up if necessary.)  I would just like to be able to play the last Myst game and a couple of other old ones that won't run in compatible mode on my present Dell Inspiron 660s desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

Answer:Dell Desktop PC with XP won't start anymore after "resting" for 1 & 1/2 years..

After you replaced the battery did you reset your BIOS to default? Is the hard drive detected in BIOS? Tapping F12 at boot will give you the option to do System Diagnostics and also select your boot device.

Do a powercycle. Remove the power cord and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Replace the power cord and reboot.

My photo card reader will not open up anymore on auto either on my Desktop and Laptop both with W7. Both used to work fine. I thought it was my old card reader going u/s so bought a Belkin but have the same problem. I can access the photos through DCIM but that's a pain to go that route. I tried the Auto Select but what ever I tried did not work so I reset back to default. I always used Windows to open the pics from the card and downloaded to My Pictures. It just seems that Windows will not recognise any card reader anymore. I changed the anti virus from Kaspersky to Bitdefender and that done nothing. Any help will be great.

Answer:Card Reader not auto anymore on W7 Desktop & LaptopW7

You can try this, in Control panel, auto play, under removable drive select 'open folder to view files (windows explorer) and the same if you have camera storage, memory card in the list. At the top tick the box for Use AutoPlay for all media and devices and click on the save tab. If the box is already ticked then un-tick it and save. Close Control panel then reopen and go to auto play again. Tick the box again and save. See if that works.

I am getting an error message "the drive or network connection that the shortcut refers to is unavailable.. make sure disk is properly inserted
or network resource is available, then try again"

I am using a new laptop with Windows Vista, and am trying to acess a shared network via wireless Linksys router in the office next to mine. WHen I click the shortcut from desktop to the shared drive it doesnt work. I just came back from a trip and before I left, the connection was fine. The person next door, with the Linksys in his office, can access the shared folders on the Linksys network. My computer is telling me that I am connected to the shared network and the signal strength is excellent, but the shortcut is not working.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!!

Answer:Desktop Shortcut to Linksys Shared Network not working anymore

try resetting the router/or restarting your PC- unplug the power cord for a few minutes. if the pc is off or sleeping that the shared folders are on, you cannot connect.

If others can connect, but you cant. then It is your PC with the issue. Check the network and sharing center. Try a "repair" operation.

today I was on win 10 but needed to reboot to 7. Upon doing so I hit this message:

Secure Boot Violation The system found unauthorized changes on the firmware, operating system or UEFI drivers.

It then gave me the option to boot to win10 as it is the next boot option on the list. Win 10 is now giving me the blue screen "memory management error" although I have been able to get into win10 after some more rebooting.

I ran SFC scanner and it told me that there were some problems that it cannot fix.

Everything is unplugged apart from mouse, keyboard hdmi to screen and ethernet cable. Unplugging the win10 drive from the mobo and switching the win7 drive to another port has not helped.

Has my ssd failed? has win 10 done an update that has caused this problem? It did update today, in fact the first error message I got was after win10 shut down, and when I booted into it again it installed some updates before launching.
thanks for any help!

Answer:dual boot win7/win10 wont boot to win7 anymore +BSOD "memory managemen

Hi @vinvanda.

As far as I can understand from your post that you had W7 and W10 as dual boot in two different disks.

From the uploaded data we could not find a hint of the BSOD that you said (it is not recorded anywhere, probably because it happened during boot); but some other statements are supported by the data.

Windows failed fast startup with error status 0xC00000D4.

Now, it is STATUS_NOT_SAME_DEVICE; reads as .... "The destination file of a rename request is located on a different device than the source of the rename request".

Now I am making a guess. It it is wrong, please rectify and state the proper situation.
You name the Windows 7 Disk as "system" and the Windows 10 disk as "Win 10". You also said that windows 7 is the default boot. So I am guessing that the boot files are in the the windows 7 disk.

The board is set as Legacy BIOS. So Fast Boot is not possible here; and if Fast Startup is enabled, windows7 needs to disk check in every startup. It is desirable to keep fast startup disabled on a computer with W7.

Now Coming to the "Secure Boot Violation". Windows 7 does not support it at all. And, it is the Firmware Validation Process of UEFI; whereas your system is set to Legacy. I think here lies the issue.

BIOS Mode Legacy

Hi everyone

I need some serious help here

The story is a little long
3 weeks ago, I had my computer working, and suddenly, it stopped booting windows, not even the logo show on screen, also no error code or anything. I couldn't enter diagnostic or safe mode (just bios). I had to format and reinstall windows 8 because any restore options worked.

Then a week ago, again it stopped booting, no error code, no anything, but this time, it bothered me that just 2 weeks before happened the same, so I started checking everything, so I took my Hard Drive, and put it in another computer, and it worked with no problem, windows booted, just not in my computer.

I started to look for solutions, and one was to use the command bootrec /scanos, and i got suprised that no windows installation was found. Eventually I had to speak with Microsoft tech, and they said it was my components because they were old, and they actually are (8 years), but I wasn't convinced that was it.

Before getting Windows 8 Pro, I had installed Windows 8 release preview, and it worked for months with no problem.

I thought that of course the fulll version would be heavier for my pc, so I installed Windows 7 again (had it installed for years before w8 release preview).

And now the bad part

after a couple of hours having the W7 installed, it won't boot either.

The same symptoms from W8, windows won't boot, not even the logo shows, although, with a little difference, now it shows a "Missing ... Read more

I just built a new computer about 2 months ago or so. It has run fine up until this point, It started with BSOD's but reinstalling windows fixed that and I have had 0 problems since.

This morning I turned on my computer, and all it showed was a black screen. no intiial beep before loading windows like it usually does. I restart the computer and this time i get the beep, but it just sits on the menu where it shows the stats of my computer hardware (also the menu where I enter bios). It freezes at this point and theres nothing I can do, I try entering bios, nothing. Restart computer, exact same problem. I gave it an hour or so and went back, and now i'm at the origional problem. I turn it on and it just sits there, without loading video, without beeping, and without the possibilty to get into bios.

It was running perfectly fine the night before, I didnt install anything new, or mess with any hardware. Any ideas?

Answer:Can't Boot PC anymore

seems I always seem to figure it out after posting here, and its always something stupid.

Somehow my USB external hard drive had fried either at that moment, or somehow magically last night. I tried to see if there was some sort of hardware problem and booted up the PC with just the PSU plugged in. I heard the beep. Excited i plugged in the monitor, windows was loading. after i plugged everything in I see the error "Windows was unable to recognize USB device" I restart my computer and it freezes on BIOS. Unplug the external HD, unfrozen. Going to leave the post up for anyone that just happens to come across a similar problem, but for me...issue solved.

So, my box was acting a little fragile lately - Stuff falling off my desk onto it would make it blue screen and load back up.
Naturally I opened it up and looked inside and found one of my RAM was a bit loose - It was in there most  the way, but out just enough so that the prong that holds it in wasn't in the slot for it. I pushed it in and secured it properly, screwed the cover back on, plugged everything in.

and now it won't get passed the DELL boot up screen. F2/F12 do nothing, and the loading bar freezes about a half way in. I'm running vista(naturally), all my peripherials are USB, but I don't think its the keyboard just not working that's causing the problem. I'm tried booting it with everything plugged in, and nothing plugged in.

any and all help would be appreciated.

Question: Can't boot anymore

Alright, I've been having some trouble with this laptop.

I turn it on, no disk in the drive, and it eventually tells me: "Operating System Not Found!"

I tried putting in the restore disk and the OS disk to reinstall, but with either one, I just get a "No Hard Drive Found" message.

I really can't get any further than that. Any ideas, at all? All I know is: Things worked fine before he tried to clear some internet files (apparently).

I cannot turn on my PC. When I turn on the power supply it does a repeating, fast, high pitched, but quiet beeping sound (similar to some bird chirping). The power button on my PC doesn't respond at all, even the fans won't start. I tried disconnecting pretty much everything from my motherboard and adding more and more things slowly to no avail. I also tried out a new PSU but the same thing happens. If I disconnect the 24 pin cable, only then do I get a different sound (a continous high pitched sound). Before this I accidently plugged in the old PSU's FDD cable into one of the F_USB slots. Could I have killed my mobo with that? If not what could be the problem? How can I sort out if it's a bad mobo or something else?

M previous boot was a Samsung 840 pro 256gb and it worked like a charm. I'm running the latest version of Win8.

* Ran out of space on my 840 Pro and purchased a 500gb Samsung 850 EVO which had plenty of space and I successfully migrated over to the new drive a couple weeks ago.

* I've been using Acronis 2015 for backups and an external 4tb WD drive for these backups.

* Today I went to backup the NEW boot drive and saw I had a very large backup for the old boot SSD. In Acronis you have to boot to their program straight out of BIOS to access and erase the old backups, which I did.

* NOW I can't boot to the new Samsung 500gb drive for some reason. I've gone into BIOS and changed boot order to the 500GB but I just get a blinking cursor and a black screen when I reboot.

* However, if I change the boot order in BIOS to the OLD SSD it boots fine AND recognizes the 500gb and all it's data! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help you can give~

So I had some problems with AVG antivirus, when booting my pc got stuck on booting the avg processes, so I removed them, then it got stuck on some other processes (like fvevol.sys or so) so I removed them too. After removing all processes that got stuck when booting, I couldn't boot at all! Every time I booted it automatically came in the boot manager, saying it couldn't restore my pc. :(

How can I fix this? Please note that there's nothing wrong with my HDD, it's about one week old, all new. I also did not actually remove the processes, I transfered them to an USB stick.

And BTW, I still have acces to my HDD and bios

Well, I now have an unbootable computer. I don't know what's wrong. When it tries to boot, it gets a BSOD, and it goes by too fast for me to possibly read it. I heard you can change this option by getting into a special menu with F8, but F8 doesn't do anything for me. I heave the option of loading Startup Repair, too, but its SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW! There's no way this can be right! (Maybe I need to put the harddrive on an eternal reader and grab the dumps.)

Prior to this, the OS was laggy. I was playing music with Winamp, and it k.....ept pausing. Prior to that, I had a mess where all the programs became unresponsive and I had to force a reboot. Now, this may be unrelated, but prior to all of this, I had not one but two harddrives start to fail. One of them did fail. Now, I'm being good as far as I know. I have a surge protector on this stuff. Is there a surge coming from within? Is it time for a new motherboard, and is that the only thing that will save me? Am I smarter than I look, or not?

I'm on a budget. I really don't want to have to replace everything if I can avoid it.

I'm running WIndows 7 on a Gigabyte H55M.

My Sat Pro M10 worked fine until yesterday. I removed the harddrive just to check Part number (as i need to install a larger drive and want to make sure I got it right)and then re-inserted it. Now it boots up as far as the XP Pro loading screen (black background) which disappears and then the screen goes blank. This is what normally happens during boot-up, except that there would be a cursor over the blank background for a few seconds until my desktop appears. Also, when it has stopped at this blank screen the harddrive light on the front of the laptop flashes regularly every few seconds. I desperately need some of the data on the hard-drive (and no, it is not all backed up) so I do not want to use the recovery CD which is just a ghost image (isn't it). The drive is formatted as NTFS. I mention this because when I tried to use the recovery disc to check disc integrity it gave an error message that said the NTFS logfile is not loaded. It will not respond to any of the F8 safemode-type options. I think I have messed up the booting up process somehow by removing the drive rather than physically breaking anything. it seems it can read the boot partition but no further. Can anyone suggest how to fix this, or worst comes to worst a way of retrieving the data from the disc?

Thanks and appreciation in advance,
Chris

Answer:Sat Pro M10 will not boot up anymore

Hi Chris

If the system runs stabile you can remove HDD so many times you want and it should have no any influence on anything. I have removed HDD from my Tecra very often and it still works well.

Back to your issue: if there is any possibility try to connect your HDD as external device to other notebook or desktop to see if you can see it and even back up all your important data.

All Toshiba notebooks, I suppose, since two years have NTFS and that is nothing unusual.

Answer:Ssd won't boot anymore

WELL, you didn't say what SSD you have. BAD!
But, it sounds like you had the same experience that I had a few months back, when my three month old PNY SSD decided one day that it didn't want to work anymore. I called PNY, from whom I bought the drive, but they would not do anything without the original invoice. So I was stuck, with a worthless piece of crap that I could do nothing with.
I got right on my backup drive, pulled up Amazon.com and ordered a new "SanDisk, 128GB, SSD" and requested two day delivery.

Now it's several months later and my SanDisk SSD is still working like a champ. It came with the SanDisk Dashboard, which includes the "Trim" program to keep the SSD in top shape.

Sounds like you need a new SSD. I strongly recommend a "SanDisk" SSD.

Good Luck, and Happy Holidays!

Question: can't boot anymore

Well, my wifes sony Vaio laptop just went kaput.
It was crashing while she was using large email files
and also doing some things on IE internet.
This started shortly after updating Adobe Acrobat.
Maybe the cause. We kept it working by turning some of the
services off, but now it says: \windows\system32\config\system
cannot be found.
And we can't even boot off our systen repair disc unless we choose
to erase everything off the C-drive. I have a hirens boot CD, but cant get it to boot
from that.
When we turn it on and press a key it beeps, and we get the choice
of F1 or F2.
F8 wont boot to safe mode either.
Is there any way to get this to boot in safe mode or from a disc so we
can repair or get some data off?

Thx

Answer:can't boot anymore

The CD-ROM needs to configured in the BIOS boot order to be first in the list. It may already be so in your machine since your recovery disk would have to boot that way.

If you can do that, you can try creating a bootable CD with the recovery console on it per my suggestion in post 6 here:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/454300-xp-error-driving-me-insane.html

The beep when you startup and the prompt for f1 or f2 may indicate a misconfigured BIOS -- you might look for an option to reload the BIOS/Setup defaults there, and see if that particular problem is resolved. It is different from the missing or damaged "system" hive.

Hi ~
I feel like I'm going in circles as I've spent so much time on the phone with tech support with both Belkin and Apple and I am no further ahead!! They each think its the others problem! So I am really hoping someone can help!

My son just purchased an ipod touch and so we bought a Belkin Wireless Router F5D7230. I set it up and he tried his ipod and had connection so we thought all was fine...however we hadn't tried our home computer. When I did, we did not have connection. I contacted Belkin who had me add DSN Server Addresses. The problem seemed solved! I had connection with my home computer! BUT I did not have my son check connection on the ipod as I figured he'd soon let me know if there was a problem! Sure enough the next day, he told me he had no connection. I called Belkin again and the guy had me check a few things but basically said everything was fine with the router and that I needed to contact Apple. I did this and they had me reset the ipod. I did this but still nothing. Unfortunately I could not stay on the phone any longer as it had been over 2hrs with both techs and I have 4 kids....!

So I am sitting here with a very expensive little toy that's not working and a very frustrated son who wants to be able to get to the internet on his ipod!

If there is anyone out there who might be able to help me, I would really appreciate it!!

Thank you,
Donna

Saturday when I launched the store it said an update was needed and looked like it was trying to download. Then the window just went away. I launched it again and all I get is the blue store window with the rotating dots. After about 15 to 20 minutes in this state the window just disappears again. The same thing is happening in windows update. The row of dots just move at the top of the page but nothing ever comes back.
Anyone else having this issue?

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) for the last 1 year now and it has been working great. I recently noticed that the feature Desktop Slide Show is not working properly anymore. It used to use fade effect when switching between images, but its no
longer happening. I thought that theme got corrupt or something, so I deleted it and created a new one, but still no effect. I am not sure since when it's not working, may be a few days or months, but it came to my notice when I was comparing Windows 7 features
with my new MAC OS X.

Although it's not much of a big deal, but still it's something which is not working and I am not one of the guys who will let anything stay non functional for long, so could anyone please help me here.

Hi, My attempt to setup my X1 Yoga (20FQ) laptop to dual boot windows 10 and fedora 24 failed and I am not able to boot on windows anymore  More specifically I installed fedora 24 while already having a windows 10 setup. During the installation the fedora installation manager has configured the partitions for dual boot. The installation was successful but to my surprise the grub 2 entry for the windows 10 didn't work anymore.  I inspected the partitions and found that the windows are untouched. However the ' /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi' file is missing from the boot partition. I think I need to recover it so that I am able to boot again to windows. Do you know how I can recover the file? I noticed that there was no windows 10 installation disk in the X1 packaging. Also what's the right setup for dual booting the two operating systems? Regards, Kostas

Here's the deal. I have a custom PC that runs Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and it has worked fine since I built it a year or so ago.

The other day, I reformatted my mom's hard drive for her. It is a SATA II HDD, I connected it to my motherboard, booted to the Windows XP Pro 32 bit disc, reformatted her hard drive, and installed Windows XP Pro 32 bit on it.

After removing her hard drive from my computer, my system is no longer useable. Windows 7 will not boot at all. Insterting my Windows 7 disc and trying to repair the install does not work at all, the disc shows my Windows 7 installation but if I try to repair it it simply says it's the wrong version for the disc, which is absolutely false.

How on God's earth do I fix what I have done? I am ready to dump this thing forever and buy a laptop.

Answer:Windows 7 will not boot anymore

Your mistake was to allow the XP install to see your Win 7 as it booted up for the first time. At that point the system was seeing two drives both with the Active flag set and has probably written an XP style MBR to your Win 7 disk and XP was using that to get started. When you put the XP disk in another computer it almost certainly won't boot either.

The damage is only to the MBR and possibly the PBR and should be repairable but you need access to an expert to carry it out. Bit beyond my abilities I'm afraid.

Hello guys,

After running windows update on win8 it asked me to reboot, after applying the updates upon reboot i get a black screen where I should get the login screen.

Also if I try to press F8, it displays "getting options..."(or something like that) and when it should load the options screen I get just a black empty screen that stays there forever.

Another funny thing is that my dual boot is gone, i cannot boot back to my win7 so i have pretty much an unusable computer...

thanks for any help

Hi,

HP laptop ZE4310 - 7 years old - XP SP3

Although CD-ROM is on top of the boot devices in the BIOS the CD ROM is systematically ignored when I want to boot a bootable CD. This was no problem in the past.
At boot time the drive is accessed (LED shows short activity) but that's all before switching to the HDD (the original 30GB disk was replaced in the past with a 120GB without apparent problem - maybe the boot problem stems from this ?).
The drive is seen allright under "My Computer" and I can play audio and DVD disks but although Autoplay is marked, that does not work either.

Opening up the laptop to find the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS is a no go because I don't want to vandalize the machine. It's not simple to take it apart.

I would like to reinstall XP but without recognizing the CDs it's difficult. I do have an external USB CD ROM drive. Any known trick to boot from this device ?

Thank you for your valuable input.

Hello folks,

my Satellite L40 18P won't boot anymore. All I get is the Power LED to go green. The DVD ROM drive blinks and I can open and close it - but that's it. Nothing else happens.

Any idea in the forum what I can do to get the notebook boot again ? Or please ask questions for additional details.

many thanks, Johi 13

Answer:Satellite L40 18P won't boot anymore

Yes Joshi we need additional details.
Can you see anything on the screen?
Have you tried to test it with external monitor?
Since when you have noticed such behaviour?

What was your last activity?

I cannot run windows anymore, it won't boot. I also am not able to Boot from CD at ALL. At first I was, so I booted the CD but when I realized I had to do a new install (wipe my hardrive) I decided to try startup repair first. It went on for 3 hours so I assumed it wasn't going to work so I restarted the computer. Now when I turn on the computer windows doesn't even load, it just freezes on a black screen after the Starting windows screen comes up. When I try to boot from CD (I even set boot priority to CD first) It will tell me Windows is loading files, and once that's done the Starting Windows Screen appears and it just freezes on that. I have no idea what to do. Please help.
EDIT: Also just to note, a while back I got a USB flash drive, and spent an hour putting it in the front two USB ports, and eventually they broke (the metal inside) So my computer always gives me a USB over current error) And ever since that I have a common problem (tends to happen when I hold the power button to shut off the computer) where once the Dell screen comes up, (the one that says press F2 and F12 to boot menu and setup) it just freezes there, and the only way for me to get past it is if I turn off my power strip that the computer is connected to and back on.)
Also, after constantly turning off the computer trying to fix this problem, I get a Disskete seek 0 drive) error ontop of the usb over current error whenever I try to boot from CD)

Answer:Windows will not boot anymore

I think you have a hardware issue; probably multiple problems. I will move your thread to the Hardware forum, but my guess is that your computer will need hands-on repairs. Good luck.

If you get to where you can boot Windows, or at least the installation DVD, this can be moved back to the Windows 7 forum. Just click on Report and make the request.

Hi all,

I have a Dell 8100 PC running Windows XP Pro/Sp2 with a internal IDE Benq CD-RW drive as the 2nd device on the cable. The 1st device is a Pioneer DVD-RW writer.

I can read CDs okay from the CD-RW drive but all of a sudden I can NOT use the CD-RW drive to boot up system! Last time I tried was probably 3-4 months ago.

I go to boot menu as system is starting to boot up and select IDE CD-ROM Device -- system Beeps twice then it says:
"Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility". I hit F1 -- same thing!

Drive is listed as okay in device manager.

I have double checked devices in BIOS, all is okay. Even set CD drive as first boot device there, but after saving setup and rebooting - system still boots from HDD with a bootable CD in drive! Even tried a Ubuntu live CD and same thing happens.

Does anyone have any idea what problem might be and the resolution

Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Cin

Hello everyone

I recently ordered a new cpu fan (which I have replaced since bearings shot in old one and making lots of noise), for a AMD Athlon (K7) Socket A processor and now the new fan runs quietly but pc will not boot (the mobo is K7 Triton series GA-7VKMP). If I put the old fan back on windows boots no problem. I put the new fan back on and PC hangs and won't let windows boot. It hangs before it starts looking for boot order.
It says that system health is ok and processor ok but it hangs an will not boot to windows. If I try to get into BIOS nothing happens it still just hangs.
The new fan is A.M.B. Model FD06010 Ball Bearing DC 12volts .28Amps.

Anyone have any ideas.
Thanks for any help with this issue.

Thanks

Answer:replace cpu fan but pc won't boot anymore

sounds like the fan is not supported by your motherboard. You can try getting a Molex power adapter converter and plugging the power of the fan into the adapter and using one of the Molex connectors on the PSU. However, your motherboard Bios might report that the fan is not connected. I would find a CPU fan from your motherboards site that is compatible.

Hey =)

My screen randomly froze yesterday (stayed locked, couldn't move mouse or anything) and now W7 is stuck at "Starting Windows". The little icons won't appear and it stays stuck there for hours.

In safe-mode it gets stuck at CLASSPNP.SYS and locks.

Trying to reinstall doesn't work, it just reloops. I tried with another HDD, with new RAM, with another Video-Card, reset CMOS, nothing works.

Surprisingly, I can boot up Ubuntu just fine atm, no problem whatsoever.

I had this same issue when I had Windows Vista....anyone able to figure out what's happening?

Hi - I have Dual Boot on Leopard / Vista

I have not had trouble going between OS' but for some reason Vista has taken to starting with a Black screen (similar to the F8 screen)

Windows failed to start. A hardware or software change might be the cause.

To fix problem
1. Insert win install disc
2. Choose Lang
3. Choose repair.
etc
Safe Mode
Network
Command Prompt (advanced)
Start normally

Windonws will start in 30 secs..

After countdown it starts with the Loading graphic.... and then suddenly flashes up with a message I can't catch as it's too fast but I see a flash of the dreaded blue screen, Rebooting itself back to the Black screen.

I put the Vista Disk in and let the computer reboot but no change - fortunately holdong down Option allows the OS selection screen to appear.. this includes the Vista DVD in the drive.

If I select Vista the computer it would just keep on rebooting over and
I have a Seagate External Drive that was my Auto Backup drive... If I had to delete the Windows partition and redo Bootcamp, would that backup be any use?? Never had to do a repair like this.

Any suggestions????

Answer:Vista won't boot anymore.

Seems like you have a vista bootloader problem. Run your Vista DVD, after selecting language settings hit r to enter system recovery options. Click Startup Repair and go through the wizard. This should help with your boot problem!

Hello,

My PC:

Manufacturer: Acer
Intel Core Quad Q6600
2GB DDR II RAM
320 GB HDD (2x 135)
Nvidia GeForce 8500

My PC is 3.5 years old and had it shares of little problems like every PC, yesterday I got a BSoD, along the lines of "PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA". Had quite a few number of BSoD's before but usually I quickly found out the reason for them. Or some which I never found a reason for, but didn't not have any immediate effect on the computer.

However, this time when rebooting it would get to the screen where you can "start windows like normal", or some sort or Problem Fix. Which ever option you would choose it would loop (usually with a restart) back to that screen, sometimes also changing the language from my native language to English. I attempted to boot in safe mode, but this would not boot at all and more or less go back to the same options. Eventually the computer would be going to a screen suggesting to use the repair disc (Because windows could not be started) saying:

File: \Windows\system32\Winload.exe or various other files, for example at the moment it is a file called uliahci.sys
Status: 0xc0000221 (with the uliahchi.sys)
Info: Can not load windows because an essential file is damaged or missing.

I am currently stuck on this screen and I've tried various things, will list them below. Sometimes there will also be another screen popping up:

i have been working at this for a week and i was finally referred to you guys by a friend of mine. my problem started about 2 weeks ago. i had turned my computer off for the night and the next morning i went to turn it on again and it took about half an hour to boot (no joke). i started it in safe mode and it froze up after it loaded crcdisk.sys so what ever comes next is the problem but i don't know what comes next. i first though it could be a hard ware problem but i changed out almost all the parts and it still won't work. i tried to reinstall vista because this was becoming annoying having to turn on the comp 30 mins before you need it but, the vista disk isn't damaged but it still didn't work, so it must be a driver or something like that. i put in my motherboard disk to install the drivers and it didn't work and i reset my CMOS and that didn't work either. it will get through the whole install and again get to crcdisk.sys and then crap out any help you have for me would be great i have pretty much been defeated on this one. thanks - Matt

Hi people

I have a tecra A4 and started experiencing start-up problems after shutdown. the laptop would take 15 minutes to allow me to restart it if i was starting it straight after i shut it down. when i press the button to start it up it would take 2-3 seconds then just shut down with the hard-drive making a little 'clunking' noise as it did it.

I ran a recovery disk which just screwed it up all together, it just simply would not start at all after that! (just kept shutting off after 2-3 seconds). Sooooo I went out and bought a new HD. I put the hard-drive in and started installing windows again. it got to the part of putting the files into the installation directory. i think it got to 100% but then shut off again. now it wont start-up again!!! It does the 2-3 second thing :-( The difference is that there isn't the 'clunking' noise anymore. just a quiet shut-off as though its losing power somehow before it accesses the hard-drive

Any idea what the problem is here?

Cheers

Answer:Tecra A4 does not boot anymore

It is really not easy to say what is wrong there. my first thought was overheating. Tecra A4 is pretty old notebook model and maybe is shuts down because of overheating.

Can you enter BIOS settings? If yes please enter BIOS settings and leave it. Please let me know if notebook switches off again.

Hey guys,

Today I recently watched a video and it was saying to record with your nvdia gpu in 60fps without ruining gaming experience you use shadow play.

I enabled shadow play and then 5 minutes later my pc crashed and restarted it self. I said ok no problem. It then says starting windows and then boots into a black screen I can see my mouse cursor. 2seconds later the screen goes grey, 10 seconds later the screen says "no input found" and my monitor turns off, 15 seconds later my pc restarts again. This problem has never happened until I enabled shadow play. I can boot up in safe mode (which Im in now) but I can't open nvdia to disable shadow play. I tried uninstall nvdia geforece experience but with no luck its still happening. I've tried restoring my pc. Should I fully uninstall my graphics driver or is that not the cause?  I don't know how to find crash logs. PLease someone help me
Kind regards,

I've only found one reference to my problem and that was on this site in the wrong forum. I haven't found any answers, though.
My IBM 600 laptop has decided it doesn't want to boot anymore.
Instead I get an error 127 message after it tests the memory and reports the 228800KB's OK.
In testing the components from the dialog box that opens I get an "DEV 001", "ERR 42", "FRU 1110" message when testing the systemboard and testing the memory causes the machine to freeze up. Everything else tests OK.
The situation is the same regardless of whether I use the onboard battery or the AC adapter. It's the same regardless of whether I use the HD or my emergency boot floppy.
I've replaced the CMOS battery and reset the date and time.
The machine is identified as type 2645-45U, serial number 78-KNR91 05/99
The platform once booted is Win98SE.
The bios is IBET39WW and the CPU is a Pentium II at 300mHz
The motherboard is model number FC/01/00
I'm going to keep poking at the problem but I'd sure appreciate it if someone could give me a leg up on what to look for.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:IBM 600 127 error, won't boot anymore

This is nearly always a sofware error, meaning requested procedure cannot be found or is caused by very big file tables The size of the data file is actually the main culprit.
But you can see it in a PC when the hard drive becomes defective, or memory goes awry.
This is a serious error requiring some real work. Test your memory and hard drive in an enclosure or another machine.
If the hard drive is older than two years, consider replacing the drive and rescuing the data from the old drive in a USB enclosure.
But since you have already tried everything, you can learn from the Thinkpad forums that old 600, 600E, (not so much 600X) boards fail, and give this error as they do... or the cpu fails... check the fan on your cpu to be sure it is able to cool.

My computer had a little problem with it a couple of days ago and I thought that I could fix it by doing a "SYSTEM RECOVERY" on my computer (because it worked before). Well I did the system recovery and it seemed to be working just fine until I clicked on "Finish". Then after that it seemed to take a really long time to load then it went to a blackish gray screen and there was just a little error message that says " The System is Not Fully Installed. Please Run Setup Again". Then I click "OK" on the error message and it re-boots my computer and then says it is loading Windows, but then it just goes to the same error message, EVERYTIME! I have tried pressing F10 while booting and I have did the System Recovery again by doing so and it does the same thing. Please help me out! I really really would appreciate it!! Thank you all so much!!

Hi. Although I jumped in on this thread I felt afterwards that it maybe better to start a new thread with this issue.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/966631-disk-read-error-occurred-after.html

From about 3 wks ago when swiching on my laptop I find now that I am unable to get past f10. While on the f10 options I have tried the HDD Self-tests both short (2mins) and the long ones(37mins) and they both passed, not to sure in what that means. My laptop is a HP compaq nx9105, running winXP Pro. At the moment I have no clue in what is going on but really feel that the issue could point to a failing harddrive, although both "Self-tests" passed. If anyone has more knowledge of this particular issue more than me I would appreciate that very much, before spending out on a new hard-drive, i.e a particular CD, recovery, boot, diagnostic or other that may help.

At two stages after switching back on I did manage to get past the "a disk error has occured" and got to the "Checking file system on C: The type of file system is NTFS" to in the middle of checking or so "an unspecified error has occured", if that is a clue to anything. Also after switch-on I find that I can sometimes get the "start windows normally" DOS pop-up and then the windows XP logo, but continually loops between the two, if that helps. Thanks for your time and best regards

I can't boot into Windows XP home anymore after I (foolishly) removed a new version of a program called magic folders (used to hide folders) and tried to install an older version of it which didn't work. I then tried to reinstall to new version but after rebooting I find instead of getting into Windows all I get is a black screen! I've tried to use the Last Known Good Configuration from the boot menu which also gives me a black screen. I have been using Windows 7 without issues or at least no issues that cause me to be at a downer like this one since I started using Windows 7.

This is the biggest and most ***** situation I been in.

I need your help.

My last option is re-installing Windows but I'm 100% sure that this is not required to fix my issue.

It all started today around 1 PM, now 8 hours or so ago when I was backing up my C drive with the program:
Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

It froze for some brief moment the first time I switched been my admin account and user account but the second time I was done for. I had my cursor visible and a black screen and that is not changing for hours.

Why did I do this? Because I was trying to fix: I tried enabling hibernate function but no luck

So this is all related. I think I should never have switched between accounts and let the system take the backup I was doing.

Anyway when I try to start up I got now through advanced booting:

status: oxc000000e

My boot system is messed up.

I'm now using my windows disc and:

Rajan : Computer Blog: How to Create a Clean BCD file to fix Windows 7 Boot problem

Some of these commands don't work.

I got a system repair disk of February but I had no luck using that. I got a backup made some days ago on a remote hard drive, I got a system image made some tome ago but all of these I cannot use!!!!

It doesn't list them and I don't know how to use them with my situ... Read more

I recently left my PC in my flat for the summer and when I came back to it 7 weeks later to turn it on Windows XP wouldn't boot up.

I turned on the PC and the Windows XP Home loading screen came up but it was all funny colours and then after that screen where it usually asks me for my password the screen just went black except for some strange lines of colours across the screen. At first I thought it was the monitor but I have since tried that on someone else's PC. The PC will now occasionally boot up in Safe Mode but that only happens once every 10 trys or so and when it does it still has the strange colour scheme all over the monitor. I have no idea what could possibly be wrong whether it be a loose connection in the machine or something. Any sort of help on whats wrong will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Windows will not boot up anymore.

Well, if it's not the monitor, it's probably the graphics.
Do you use a graphics card or intergrated geaphics?

In vista, I was using EasyBCD, and I didnt like how long it waited before booting into the default OS, XP. So I changed the timeout to 3 seconds. Since then, Ive really found no need for Vista. But now that I want to use it, when my computer boots, I dont even get the option of choosing XP or Vista for those three seconds. Ive tried mashing the UP & DOWN arrow keys as it boots to try and get it to stop, but it doesnt help. Ive also tried installing EasyBCD in xp, but it just continually tells me that there is no Vista bootloader installed, would you like to install one, installed successfully, please restart the program. When you restart the program, you get the same set of dialog boxes.

Answer:Cant Boot Into Vista Anymore

I am going thru the same issue right now myself. I am guessing that you installed XP after Vista and that XP is on a different partition.

I am working with ComputerGuru the creator of this applicaiotn to solve my problem. As soon as i get a resolution i will let you know what to do.

I've just finished assembling my first computer, and tried installing windows 7 ultimate x64 on a blank samsung 256gb SSD from an 8gb usb stick, but I got an error on the second step at 1% saying "Windows cannot install required files". I pressed OK and restarted, I get a message saying there's nothing to boot from. Obviously, I made sure the USB was top priority as a boot device.

Any help with that..?

Here's some information about the stuff:

-The components are here:Intel Core i5-4690K, MSI GeForce GTX 970, Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) - System Build - PCPartPicker Canada
-I used Rufus to get windows 7 ultimate on the usb as a bootable device. I kept everything by default once that was done, so MBR for bios/uefi,NTFS ( I think), 4096 and quick formatting, no bad block verification.
-The HDD was unplugged
-I used a usb 2.0 port

The error itself happened on the installation screen, after the screen forselecting to choose partitions and whatnot, as the files were being copied.

This was my first build, so maybe this could be hardware-related somehow. Thank you!

Answer:Win 7 Boot USB first detected, but not anymore?

Put your iso file on the usb stick again using this program, it never fails me.

WiNToBootic bootable usb drive windows vista/7/8 - Bootable USB | Bootable USB

And make sure you didn`t change the boot order in the bios, or else the usb stick will just keep booting over and over again.

Use the boot menu to choose the usb stick 1 time and that`s it.

Hey Everyone,

So here is my problem. I recently deleted a partition on my second hard-drive that had Linux on it. Now my windows won't boot. I found out that my MBR got corrupted some how through deleting the partition. I tried using windows repair, but its not even detecting windows 7 on the HD. I tried going to ASUS to DL the drivers to load up but nothing is working. I am not sure what to do here. Anyone know if maybe i need to mess with the bios or is there a specific driver to load up in repair.

Im guessing its trying to boot from the dvd but cant.I do have an external dvd reader if that helps.I just wantt to get back into BIOS and boot set it to boot from my external reader. Any help is appreciated.is my only option to purchase a internal dvd drive. cuz i already have an external so i dont want to buy one if theres another way to reset bios.

Did you mess around with the RAM sticks? That beep code might indicate a RAM problem.Beep codesThe three most important things in computing:1. Backups, 2. Backups and 3. Backups.

The power to my house went off. I fixed it and turned on my computer again, and the power went off multiple times after that in succession. After the last time my computer no longer boots Windows. I have attempted to start normally (the Windows logo appears and then freezes). I have attempted to repair Windows (it loads Windows files and freezes in a stasis of loading). I have attempted to open in safemode but the drivers stop loading at classpnp.sys. I've even gone into the bios and loaded optimized defaults but still nothing. I'm guessing it's the motherboard? After attempting to repair the usb's lose power so I'm not sure if that would indicate anything. The only thing I haven't tried yet is installing a fresh version of Windows but I don't know where I put my disk and I have a lot of valuable files that I wouldn't be able to transfer at the moment.

Answer:Computer won't boot anymore?

Just out of curiosity, did you have the pc plugged into a surge protector?

Could be a bad power supply or

Hi Guys. I really need your help.
I have 3 drives. Vista installed on primary boot drive (C. Everything used to work fine until I installed XP on my second bootdrive (D.

In fact, when the XP installation finished and the system was booting up for the first time, it really creeped me out with some weird non-standard characters on the post screen. For a sec I felt my BIOS is messed up or something...

It didn't even let me boot into XP until I set D: as my priority1 boot device. XP now boots fine (although it feels like it's taking a lot longer than usual) but when I switched priority1 boot device to C: my system hangs at the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" message.

I then booted back into XP and tried different tools like VistaBootPRO and EasyBCD to fix my boot files but nothing works. I can still read files from my all drives whilst booted into D: (XP) so thankfully my C: is not dead but if anyone has any experience in this area, I would very much appreciate your help.

What I want is to have some boot option at system startup to boot into either Vista or XP, simple (or not so simple) as that.

I've been up all night trying to fix this..

So I have been having issues with installing WOW and AOC due to memory issues, I was getting blue screens that said
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

so I downloaded memtest and prime95 to diagnostic the problem, will it reported back that memory slot 1 had 410 errors, but I was having problems isolating if the it was a bad slot or bad stick. So I ran prime95 torture test and during the test I received a bluescreen and it came up and went away so fast I couldn't notice the error so I had to reboot. When the computer came back up it started going extremely slow, so I decided to reboot into safe mode. It took roughly like 10 mins to just see the windows logo then another 10-15 mins to get to log in screen then another 10 mins to type my password then another 20 mins to see my desktop and this was all done in Safemode.

So now I rebooted again, this time I would get black screen for like 30 mins after Windows logo. So I decided to just re-install Vista it took a very long time to get to Vista re-install screen and next think you know it I get blue screen with the following error

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
nvstor.sys address 863e9395 base at 863e50000 DATAMAP 46671a61

So then I figured it was dvd drive I was install from so I unplug the defective drive and used my 2nd dvd and run install again, this time I managed to install Vista took roughly 3 hours, and now BINGO re-i... Read more
