Elan touchpad glitches on ideapad 710S-13isk

Question: Elan touchpad glitches on ideapad 710S-13isk

I like my ideapad 710S-13isk except that I hate the Elan touchpad which really damages the whole experience. I am hoping it's a configuration issue--it is certainly a software rather than hardware problem, but I have not been able to find a way around it. Three (software) issues: 1) there appears to be no way to configure the ENTIRE touchpad to respond as a one-finger-left-click, two-fingers-right-click touchpad. The software breaks up the touchpad into three different sections, and that is that. So two fingers on the central area will right-click, or two fingers in the lower left corner will right-click, for example, but one finger in the lower right corner and one finger in the middle-right will NOT right-click. This is a huge pain unless one makes a point of only using the top portion of the touchpad, which is ridiculous. 2) I am used to being able to select an item with one finger, and then stroke with another finger to move the item in preparation for dropping it. My other computers have worked that way. This touchpad does not. UPDATE: this seems to be working now after updating to the latest drivers. 3) Tapping to click only works with one finger. It'd be nice if it worked with two. That is more complicated for the software since fingers never tap truly simultaneously, but other devices can figure it out. If anyone can help me with settings to correct these issues, I would be grateful. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello there!I'm planing to buy a new notebook, and found the 710s-13ISK (80SW003NGE) interesting. There are 5 different configurations of it, with different CPUs and memory amount. The cheapest one is the only one i could afford, and it has the weakest CPU i3-6100U, which is no issue at all, but this one has only 4GB of DDR3L. I'd still like to buy this one, but only if I'm able to upgrade the memory some day to 8GB, in case the 4GB are not enough for my usage scenarios. Unfortunately i cannot find any specific information, whether the mainboard has a RAM slot (so the 4GB could be replaced by bigger 8GB), or the memory is soldered directly on the mainboard (means not replaceable). Does anyone have this particular notebook, and could give me some information about this one? Many, many thanks in advance!

Hi there, I've been trying my best to find the ideapad 710s-13ISK with the i7 processor and iris 540 graphics. However this has not been easy at all. I live in Belgium and I have not found a single (web)shop that has this product. In the Netherlands (close to Belgium) I can only find this product on the Lenovo website, nowhere else. I've been told I can't purchase it from the NL website, so do I have any way of getting this specific laptop? (http://shop.lenovo.com/nl/nl/laptops/ideapad/700-series/710s/) I know it's not really a good question to put on the forums, but I have been struggling to reach Lenovo (both BE and NL). Thanks in advance, Sam

Hello there! I bought the Ideapad 710s recently but i'm experiencing a serious WiFi issue. After cold start the wireless network adapter cannot be recognised. There isn't even an entry in the device manager pointing to an unknown device or a missing driver. It is absolutely not possible to allow it. Restart doesn't help either. After many restarts and attempts to switch th adapter on, I've succeded, and from that moment on, it stays active with no further issue. Countless resarts later it's still on and the function is okay. The problem is, that on the next day (i think that means, when the notebook is cold) the issues appears again. There is no network adapter, and it appears much later. What i've tried by now: 1. Did a full Windows update2. Reinstalled every single driver from the Lenovo support center3. Turned every single energy saving feature off4. Did a BIOS update5. Did a full system recovery (and repeated the steps 1, 2 and 3)6 Made a clean Windows 10 installation (and repeated the steps 1, 2 and 3) After each and every of the steps mentioned above, the issue appeared after cold start on the next day and disappeared after about an hour of being turned on. The wireless adapter is UEFI ENABLED all the time. Well after two weeks and countless attempts to solve the problem i have no idea, what more could i possibly do. Does someone experienced such issue, and if yes, what was the solution for it. Best regards and happy new year!

Hello lenovo community.

I just got my new Lenovo Ideapad 710s-13sk yesterday.

I've used it for 2 days now, and it seems that the 2 finger scroll up and down triggers the 3 finger function from time to time?

So when i want to scroll, sometimes the task view shows up or everything minimizes depending on what direction i scroll of course.

Have anybody else experienced this and found a solution for it?

Best Regards,
Christian

Yesterday I bought a new Lenovo ideapad 710s and already I'm experiencing difficulties with the touchpad. It occasionally just gets stuck for a few seconds, which is very frustrating, and also the touchpad scrolling doesn't work, even though I have enabled it in the mouse settings. I've also made sure the drivers are up to date, and the problems are still there. Does anyone know how to deal with these problems?

My Ideapad has Alps touchpad which was working fine before the Windows 10 falls update. Suddenly one fine day the two-finger scrolling and right-click button stopped working. I have tried the One-key Recovery and reset the laptop to how it was shipped(with windows 10 installed), but the issue has not resolved. I have seen someone posting about the similar issue where changing the registry value has resolved the issue, but the solution or exact registry values were not provided. If anyone has come across the similar situation and has the solution for the same, please reply to this thread. Thanks.

I've had my y510p for about 3 months now (after it was replace because the first one I recieved went all crashy and insane). I "upgraded" windows 8 to windows 8.1 in a funny moment about a week after I got it - which over all seems to have gone totally fine. The elan touchpad has always been a little anoyingly "wooly" but basically functioned well. But about 3 weeks ago it started making little hops as I tapped meaning I clicked on the wrong thing and then it started sometimes wandering and jittering while my fingers were resting on it (especially anoying when using 2 finger scrolling). then it started going into a little dancing about mode where occassionally it starts hopping about and clicking on things. which is a total pain. It doesnt do it all the time but it seems to get more frequent. it also seems to increase with sonsistent use (like if im clicking arround on pinterst or something then it seems to get worse and worse - grounding issue?) Its anoying enough now that I dont trust it and as often as possible turn it off and use an external mouse - but obviously that not good enough. I have downloaded and installed the more recent drivers for windows 8.1 64bit from the lenovo website here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=DS037924 and its hard to say really but if anything that has made it marginally worse... Any help gratefully recieved - I really hope its a fixable software problem as I'm in the middle of a big p... Answer:Ideapad y510p elan touchpad erratic jumping and clicking

Unfortunately the drivers on the Lenovo website are quite old.  I got fed up with how the track pad works in the Y510P so I started experimenting with a variety of drivers.  The ELAN drivers I am using now are intended for Toshiba laptops but they work fine on the Y510P.  You can read more info starting here. http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/720343-ideapad-y510p-359.html#post9622928 I find that the track pad is a lot better with these drivers.  There are more adjustments and more features so you can get it working like how a track pad is supposed to work.   Lenovo has ignored this problem for months.  You will need to fix this problem yourself. I plan to write a clear guide this weekend with lots of pictures to show you exactly what needs to be done to install these drivers into a Lenovo Y510P.

Hello everyone, My IdeaPad Z500 has already been sent and have returned from service, THREE TIMES IN A ROW!!! 1) I initially sent it for service because the SYNAPTICS touchpad had stopped working (it did not click, that is, physically, it was broken). They replaced it with a touchpad which was not recognized as some specific device. It said something like generic or something. It did not have any settings to adjust. I called the Lenovo technical support and after restoring the computer and downloading and installing the drivers (which I had already tried but didn't work, they didn't believe me however), they decided that it should be 2) sent back for service. Came back from service EXACTLY AS IT WAS, NOT WORKING, with a Bios update, thank you very much. 3) After apologizing, they asked me to resent it. I did. It returned this time with A MOTHERBOARD CHANGE and the touchpad this time had only these two options in its settings: "Left button" "Right Button". It seems, that in the mean time, the Lenovo site has updated the drivers, so this time they did work simply to tell me that the touchpad is (probably) functional but it is now called ELAN. My questions are the following: a) Did, in your opinion, this mashine need a motherboard change?b) Do they have the right to install an ELAN touchpad (without even themselves realizing it...), when I had bought and sent them to fix a laptop with a SYNAPTICS touchpad?c) When you are bying a compact device that i... The camera on my 710S laptop haven't been working for a long time, though I don't remember whether any updates/new softwares caused it, or it was like this from the beginning. The issue is, that basically all apps are saying, that the camera is used by another application, or give an error message. For example in Skype the cam feed does not load at all in calls. When I go to settings in Skype, it loads the camera image for a second, then reloads and reloads. In Windows's Camera app I get the following error code: 0xA00F4271(0x80070001). I have tried to restart the computer, reinstall the driver, etc, but nothing works. When I go to Device manager, it looks like everything is perfect, though I don't understand why it shows two Imaging devices (Easycamera + SEC8425190013F4). I have even tried to disable one of them, but it didn't work either.

Im trying to reinstall Windows 10 on my Lenovo 710S. I want to format the HDD in the installation and install a fresh copy of Windows 10. I have created a bootable USB but the installation program cant find my HDD. I have downloaded this driver from Intel, https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver... When I browse for a driver it find Intel Chipset SATA RAID Controller but it still cant find the HDD. I have tried to list the drives in the command line using Diskpart but it only finds the USB-disk. I know that the HDD works perfectly because it the same drive Im using now. What should I do?

I have been having issues with the touchpad for over a year on my Lenovo Yoga 900. I used to be able to fix it by uninstalling/ reinstalling the drivers but this no longer works reliable. If I didn't have a touch screen I wouldn't be able to use the computer at all. I also have to carry a mouse with me every where I go for when the touch pad fails. I have tried every fix that I have read in the forums. It has stopped working right in the middle of me using the computer and not just after start up. BIOS: Up to dateSynpatics Drivers: Up to dateF6 function doesn't even work when the touchpad is working so that's not the problem. Error: I2C HID Device - error 10 This device cannot start on Intel Serial IO I2C Host Controller - 9D61When I go to the driver details it says it's from 2006 even though I have the synpatics one installed. I have tried getting it to update to the synaptics driver but it won't and windows update doesn't work either. Other observations: The touchpad completely disappears in the system settings as I only see options for a mouse and no touchpad. The synpaptics icon in the taskbar also disappears when the touchpad stops working. I don't know what else to do but I use my laptop for both of my jobs and having to rely on a mouse at times is super inconvenient especially I am working mobile without a desk. Please help!

Hi - the current version of the ideapad 710s BIOS does not allow changing of the SATA/drive mode from RAID to AHCI. As a result, it is pretty much impossible to install Linux onto these systems. I've tried multiple combinations of things - completely wiped the drive, disabled UEFI, Secure Boot and enabled Legacy mode, etc - and nothing works.  The currently locked SATA mode basically prevents Linux from even seeing the SSD.  I've tried the latest versions of Ubuntu and Gentoo - both with the same result. Is there any reason why this setting is not exposed?  Are there any plans to expose it?

Okay so I've had this computer less than 3 months and it's given me nothing but problems. Now it refuses to even turn on. The power LED turns on but the screen remains blank. This is an non removal battery type before anyone says remove the battery and use the adapter. I've drained the battery which has worked before but this time when I try to charge it the orange battery LED blinks three times. And still nothing on the screen. Any Lenovo stores are quite far away. Anyone knows what's going on?

Less than a month ago I bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad 710s, today it suddenly turned off even though it's battery was at 64%. I then plugged in the charger and tried turning it on - nothing happened. Then I held down the power button at it turned on. Only to turn off again after about 15 minutes. Now, it won't turn on at all.If I hold down the power button, the light behind the keyboard blinks, but the screen stays black. When I plug in the charger, the light that shows it is charging is on, so the charger is working.I just can't turn on my computer at all. I don't know if this information is needed, but I have used it almost every day, around 6 hours every day I've used it (I'm using it for school only). The only things installed on the computer was Office 365 and a driver so that I could use my printer.Any idea how to get it working again?

I recently upgraded my Lenovo Yoga 13 (which I loved) to a Lenovo 900 13ISK. I had absolutely no issue with the touchpad on the Yoga 13, but the Synapics touchpad is driving me mad. As I swipe the mouse across the screen, lift my finger to swipe a again it frequently registers the next contact with the touchpad as a click and if this corresponds to something clickable it will switch context. There appears to no configuration option to change this undesirable behaviour. Is this a hardware problem? Do others experience this problem? Disabling the the "Tap to Click" option is NOT a valid solution. Any feedback greatly appreciated. My OS is Windows 10 Home Insider Preview 14352, Synaptics Pointing Device 19.0.17.57

Hi,  My Ideapad 710s which is only like 8 months old is currently with Lenovo for a warranty repair.  The comma key became loose and fell off the keyboard, the little clips on the back were broken so I was wasn't able to clip it back on.  I sent it to Lenovo under my 3 year warranty and now they are refusing to fix it under the warranty.  What can I do about this?  Why would anyone break their comma key on purpose? The rest of the laptop is in perfect condition so it is clear that I have not abused the laptop, every other key is absolutely fine.  Seeing that it was simply a matter of clipping a new key on, I asked Lenovo to just post me one out and I would do it myself. They refused, and made me send it in. I did this, and now they are going to try and charge me for the postage which I didn't want to pay for anyway because the repair was so minor!!!  This will be the last Lenovo product I ever buy if they are so petty and treat their customers so badly over such a small repair that any reasonable person can see is a manufacturing fault.  I am furious about this, and hopefully you guys can give some advice.  Thanks

Hi My 710s' fan has started making more noise lately. I've checked, and there's nothing caught in the fan. The temps are also fine. I think it's just running on dry bearings, which causes it to make more noise. Is there any way to oil the fan?

I bought ideapad 710S after research and survey, but the performance of 710s is really disappointing. The computer has strange problem and unstable performance. After my first week, I sent it to the maintanence center. Lenovo maintenance center was nice enough to change the mainboard for me. However, after 3 weeks of using, the problems reoccured again. the computer has slow processing capability.  I use simple word program and my typing does not show on the screen simultanously, instead there is the waiting cycle icon keeps apperaing. Plus, there seem to be extreme heat release problem with lound fan noise. I returned to the maintenance center and after that 3 weeks, the shop replaced ROM and heat fan.
When I got home, I started working on the document and recognize heat problem is gone. However, the delay processing problem remains. I have a problem getting my work done with this 710S because everything delays. By everything I mean my typed sentence delays by more than 10 seconds, my access to internet website consumes more than 30 seconds, program opening takes almost 1 minute. I feel disappointed, frustrated and mad with the quality of ideapad. I was a fan of thinkpad and this wiped off and torn down my believe of lenovo brand.

Randomly I got the Blue Screen of Death error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and apparently this issue occurs because the iastor.sys driver, is not compatible with Windows 10. So I changed the storage controller from Intel Rapid Storage sata controller to Intel mobile express chipset sata controller which was the other driver already on my 3 week old laptop. However, after this the laptop would not boot! It just kept saying 'automatically attempting repairs'. I then went into the BIOS and changed the SATA from RAID to AHCI and then the laptop would boot. But now the driver is just 'Standard NVM Express Controller'. I tried to reinstall the intel rapid stroage sata controller driver but then the laptop would not boot in RAID or AHCI! So I had to do a system restore and now the laptop seems to be working on AHCI and it has a boot loop on RAID.  My question is, should I put the laptop back on RAID (original factory setting) and after the boot loop should I reset the laptop to install a fresh copy of Win10 from recovery? Or should I leave it as it is now on AHCI with Microsoft Standard NVM Express Controller driver? Are there any disadvantages? My SSD is a Samsung PM961 (samsung mzvlw512hmjp) I need some help quickly before my 30 days returns period runs out. I really like the laptop but are there any problems with it?

I live in Toronto, Canada. I bought Lenovo Ideapad 710S (i5-6200 128GB SSD 8GB Ram) in August 2016. Used only 2 weeks, the laptop couldn't recognized the hard drive. It was sent to MIAD (local Lenovo certified repair center) and diagnosed as hard drive dysfunction. The technician told me since it is a "consumer" laptop (vs. business laptop such as ThinkPad), they don't have the part to repair/replace. I waited 4 weeks until the new hard drive arrive and the laptop was still not working. MIAD told me it was not hard drive problem and beyond their ability to repair. The laptop was later sent to Lenovo repair center (US).A week later I got a notice from Lenovo said the laptop had arrived but the part they need is in back order.5 weeks later still no sign of getting the problem fixed. Contacted Lenovo and get the same answer. Only compensate so far is extension of my warranty for 2 months. However, no compensation about the usability. For about 10 weeks, I have to use my old Pentium M Thinkpad. If I bought a new laptop, it might already arrived! Conclusion: Don't buy Lenovo "consumer" laptop (Ideapad, Yoga etc), at least in Canada.

Upon installing Throttlestop and Intel XTU in order to undervolt the package and squeeze more performance, my surprise was high upon finding that the package consumed no more than 10W at very low temperatures with the fan barely spinning, all while running Doom 2016 at 720P Low settings at 20FPS.Changing power use settings in the Intel Graphics control panel and in the Windows power use utility raised the FPS to 30 and the power use to around 13-14W, but the temperatures barely reach 60C and the fans aren't even spinning at full blast, and actually turn on and off all the time while running the game. Eventually the power consumption stabilizes at 13W, and Throttlestop states that it's due to a TDP limit. Is there a way of increasing this limit in order to attain the full performance of the laptop?

I know there are couple threads about the touchpad drivers already but in my experience old threads tend to get ignored even if you post new information in them. Just posting this to help someone who may be experiencing the same problem I am.  I've looked around a bit and found people complaining about the fact that the Lenovo ELAN driver doesn't have an option for two finger tap to click. I've found a couple of registry hacks that enable the functionality but I prefer not to use them. I've also seen people use the ELAN dirvers that ASUS provides. This is the direction I choose to go.  Alot of people suggested using the 11.5.0.9 version driver. With this version it gives the two finger tap to click functionality but I found that two finger scrolling became unbearably jerky.  The best driver I've found is one listed on ASUS's site. It is driver version 11.5.11.3. No jerking when two finger scrolling the the two finger tap to click works perfect.  Here is a link to their touchpad driver download page

Hello,

I'm using a MSI GP60 Leopard Laptop and have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
My touchpad in Windows 8.1 worked fine but when I upgraded it seemed to stop working. I went to the mouse settings
and the Elan tab and enabled it back and everything worked again. But then the next day it seemed to have stopped working again. Yet, this time I went to the Elan tab and nothing was there. Any help?

The touchpad automatically moves the cursor and start clicking. when i try to m ove the cursor using the touchpad it acts very unresponsive and only goes sideways. Now the problem is i dont know what kind of problem this is, is it a software or a hardware issue? NB: I Uninsstalled and reinstalled different drivers with no luck.

Basic story is that I bought my lenovo laptop about a year ago. I was excited when I received it, however, I quickly realized that the right mouse click button did not work correctly. You have to press it very hard and it regularly fails to work. As far as I can tell from reading around, the synaptics version of the pad had issues that were resolved by a driver update. Has there been any sort of fix for the ELAN version? I've tried both uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers available (as far as I can tell) to no benefit. Would really love to get this fixed so that I can use this laptop as intended.

Hello everyone, bought an Ideapad 500-13isk with 128gb ssd some weeks ago.after a windows update the computer started to give me problems after start-up, so i decided to restore the cpmuter via the integrated system and recovery partiton.everytime i try to restore the computer starts back the recovery and can't finish.so, at the moment i'm stuck.i have other computers but i need this one for a trip next week so i can't depot it for repair.i think that the recovery partition in corrupted.i have already prepared an USB disk with windows 10 ready to be installed but i'm alittle worried about the warranty.  if i delete all the partitions and reinstall windows 10 do i void my warranty?do i need a product key or the system will grab it form the bios?is there a way to restore the current status of the machine? There seems to be no way to diffrentiate internal speakers from headphone jack volume on this machine. When I use the built in speakers I usually have the volume on 60-80% to be able to hear things normally. However that level of volume is making my ears bleed when I plug in the headphones. On every computer I've used you can go to sound options and choose "show disconnected devices" then set the volume for that device (being headphones in this case) but nothing shows up. Even when headphones are plugged in (and working as intended i guess) the sound device still shows up as speaker. This must be an oversight? I have also downloaded the most recent driver from the this site. Currently I have to turn down volume to around 20% before connecting the headphones.

Dear Lenovo Community, I've just bought my Lenovo Ideapad 710S two days ago. Bought the highest-end configuration with 16GB RAM + 512GB PCIE SSD. I got to say I'm absolutely in love with the form factor and its performance. I decided upon this laptop mainly because of its portability and the combination of 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD at less than $2k. DesignAt 1.1kg, it is really light - I can hold in up effortlessly with one arm. At home, I use a Dell monitor (U2715H) which is almost borderless; looking at 710S's edge, it is equally slim and is key to making it look stylish. The matte screen display has very crisp, clear text and is very comfortable to look at. PerformancePerformance wise, there is no complain. It lives up to what it's spec-ed on paper. Every application and operation (e.g. startup, shutdown, boot from sleep) loads at breakneck speeds thanks to its PCIE SSD. I've yet to try running more intensive software e.g. the Adobe suite but at this rate, it looks promising thus far. AccuType KeyboardAt first, I thought the flat keys have really little travel to bottom-out but as I spend more time typing on it, I gradually grew to like the keyboard. It's well spaced-out, typing on it can be very accurate. Key travel is reasonable for faster typists. Only thing is the placement of backspace, enter and shift button at the right side needs some extra time to get used to it as I find they placed more to the right than it is on comm... Read more

I am having difficulty removing the back panel. The hardware guide says "Remove rubber. Remove screws". There are 9 visible screws. The hardware guide shows 13. Some of the screws might be under the rubber. However, it provides no way to remove the rubber. It appears to be glued on so removing it will break the back panel. Has anyone removed the backpanel of their 710s? If so, did you need to remove the rubber and if you did can you provide hints on how to do it without breaking it?

Answer:Ideapad 710s - How to remove back panel?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Please check out the link below for the Lenovo Training Video for the 710s model.  What is shown in the video regarding the back cover removal is different than what the Hardware Maintenance Manual shows.  I believe the problem you are having is releasing the plastic clips that hold the cover in place after the screws are removed.    Here is that video course for your reference.....

Hi all, I am thinking about buying the Ideapad 710s with the i7 7500 processor. But I was wondering, if there will be a KabyLake Version with the new Iris Processor in the near future. Or should I just get the 710s with the Skylake/Iris combination and be done with it? Maybe the difference in processing power isn't that great?! The graphics chip should be better than the 620 anyway. A helpful answer would be greatly appreciated! Thank you. Greetings, p.s. maybe i should mention, that I'm from Germany.

Hello Xia0yi1990Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try to download the Fingerprint and Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.

Make sure to reboot after an update on the unit. Also, try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hi and hello there,  I just bought a new Ideapad 710S and I absolutely love it. Great design and great performance, except for one thing: WiFi speed. I checked it simultaneously with my phone and old laptop and they both have around 40mb/sec. The laptop manages to get around 15mb/sec. Now I already updated the drivers (Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165) and windows 10 update, however, this had no effect. Also, when I tried downloading various items it's about half the speed of my old laptop (also running Windows 10).  Any help would be sincerely welcome!! Thanks in advance and all the best,  Jan

Hi there!  I purchased a Ideapad 710s about 9 months ago. I haven't used the USB ports very much in this time (maybe once a fortnight max). I tried to copy some photos from my phone last week and it wouldn't recognise it, previously it did. I have an Aspire ES1-711-P14W and have build 10240 of Windows 10 and the Elantech touchpad does not function in 10, This is not a hardware issue because it functions fine in Windows 8.1. I have tried the drivers from acer, looked in the bios for anthing mouse related. It does not show up in the device manager, when I unplug my Logitech mouse the "Mouse and Other Pointing Devices" tab dissapeares. It looks like Windows 10 is not even loading a generic driver. When I unplug my external mouse the cursor dissapeares as well.

Answer:Elan touchpad not working in Windows 10

I have a Aspire S7-392-9439 and I have the same problem after installing Windows 10. Type Mouse into the Start Menu and run the mouse control panel.  Go to ELAN Tab on Mouse Properties. The problems I see are that     1) the "Enable Device" is ghosted (whether or not any external devices are plugged in)     2) "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in" is checked, even after I uncheck it and Restart.  it sets this back to "checked" status no matter what. If I click on "Enable Device" it runs the driver software, however the two buttons don't work.  i.e. left button, right button.  You can move the pointer around just fine using the Touchpad as normal.  Also, multi-finger gestures don't work like two finger scrolling, etc.. Also when you click on Options to bring up the "Elan Smart Pad" options for the Touchpad.  You will notice that this button does nothing!!! I have noticed that after setting things up correctly and Restarting Windows 10, and logging in as normal, the touchpad will operate correctly for a few seconds.  I can move the pointer around and close Explorer windows that are open, for example.  However, as system tray icons continue to load in and other programs start up e.g. Sticky Notes and so on... the touchpad breaks down and you can't see any pointer or get anything done.  Something breaks it after it was working! The ELAN softwa... I just wanted to pass on to Acer support that I was unable to install the Windows 10 preview build 1030 on my ES1-411-C1WD with the touchpad set in the UEFI to Advanced mode. If I left it on Advanced mode, Windows 10 installation would not have a mouse cursor and at one point just locked up. I had to change the setting to BASIC mode in order to get Windows 10 preview to install. If I change the setting to Advanced mode, Windows 10 loads but without a cursor, so I am left using the touchpad in Basic mode.

Hi ShowsOn,

I'm sorry that you're having trouble with your teouchpad. For the sake of troubleshooting we would need to do that under Windows 8/8.1 to determine if there is a hardware issue. We're still a few weeks from releasing supported product list for Windows 10, but I would expect that once that's out it will easier to get drivers.

Just ordered and received a new y510p but I'm having problems with the touchpad.  It is difficult to get it to recognize when I'm touching  it and then when it finally does, the cursor is erratic.  The image below is taken from paint and shows the mouse cursor movement from me just holding my finger in place.  It happened with the default drivers 11.4.14.1 and I also installed the 11.4.17.1 drivers from the lenovo site.  Running Windows 8.  I tried disabling all of the multi-touch, edge swipe, etc. features and turning palm-tracking and sensitivity up and down.  Any other suggestions on how to fix this?  Has anyone else had problems this bad with the touchpad?

Hi I have a Samsung RV510 laptop and I have a problem with the elan touchpad. It can scroll up and down but I when I click or tap on anything it doesn't do anything. I am using a USB plug in mouse but I am working on an university assignment and I need the USB portal to save my work on an USB key. Before Christmas I had the same problem and I went into the tech support in uni and he said that I had set the left click button to right click function or something like that and he went into control panel and mouse to resolve the problem. He fixed it by doing something in Mouse under Control Panel but I just can't remember what and by the way I have the setting where the elan touchpad is disabled when an USB plug in mouse is inserted. I really need help today if you can ! I have tried to adjust the settings of the touchpad in Mouse in Control Panel but even switching the buttons does not do anything to solve the problem. Sometimes when I start the laptop the touchpad works fine but an indication that is going wrong is when I am scrolling the screen with the touchpad the pop up that appears on screen when one right click appears by itself and keeps appearing whenever on the screen I move the touchpad mouse. After that the tap to click as well as left and right click buttons fail to work at all and I do not know if this is a software problem or is it a hardware problem as I said I encountered this problem already and now it's returned. Thanks

Hello guys,

great feedback so far so I wanted to iron out another issue I have with windows 10.

Namely after getting around windows 10 constantly installing synaptics touchpad drivers over my elan touchpad Ive gotten it to work semi properly. The things that dont work are swipes, minimize or show desktop swipe and that switch to another task left - right swipe. Id like to get those to work. Is there some registry tweak or a new driver around?

The drivers from acer website restored my touchpad to near full functionality, the things that are missing are those windows 10 gesture swipes etc. two finger scroll, double tap to right click, 3 finger tap to email, 4 finger press to open assigned program, multifinger support....All work fine. So this is a pure driver issue/win10 conflict

Any workarounds?

Thanks guys.

I am wondering if anyone knows why the Elan touchpad does not offer two finger tap support like every other touchpad of any worth? I love my U530 Laptop, but am reminded of this shortcoming every time I use it.

Answer:Why is there no two finger tap option for the Elan Touchpad?

hi tsfine,

Don't you see the twp finger gesture under the Multifinger options on the ELAN Properties?
  - Sample image

If you don't see it there, try to reinstall a different ELAN touchpad driver and or apply the registry fix from the solution in this thread and observe.

Let me know if this works for you.

Regards

I'm running the most recent driver on my Elan touchpad (v. 10.7.6.2). With this update came automatically activated PalmTracking, which causes a 2-3 second delay on the mouse after every keystroke. I can't find a way to disable the PalmTracking. Everything I've seen through searches so far shows how to disable this with older versions. The only available 'properties' screen looks like this:

Having the PalmTracking activated is really frustrating - particularly since it used to be possible to disable it. Does anyone know of a way to disable it with this driver version? I'm also including the rest of my computer's information at the bottom. Thanks for any advice!

Answer:Elan Touchpad Disable Palmtracking

That does sound like an annoying feature.

If there is nothing within the settings/properties window you included in your post, I can think of three options:

1) Disabling the trackpad drivers entirely. This options will fix the delay problem, but you will lose all the other useful functions of the trackpad.

2) Rolling back to a previous version of the driver.

3) Editing a registry value to turn off the feature (this may not even exist).

-------------------------------------------------------

Assuming you'll want to try out option 3, I'll need you to make a System Restore point first.

After you've done this, proceed with the directions below.

-------------------------------------------------------

Click Start.

In the search bar type regedit and hit Enter.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPadDisplay.

Click File.

Click Export.

Save the file to your Desktop as a .txt file.

Copy and paste this export and include it in your next post.

I have a Y40 which has an ELAN touchpad.  I did not see a way to enable two finger tap in the configuration application included with it.  There has been some discussion here about a fix, but that only applies to the Synaptics touchpad.  Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Hi,I own a Lenovo G700 Windows 8 laptop.. which I truly like, except for the ELAN touchpad. I've tried several settings with palmtrack and sensitivity and still de trackpad register tab events at random times or when hardly touched. After a while it gets a little better, but still... very annoining. It seems very very buggy, the driver (in windows 8)? I checked the driver of the ELAN trackpad and that is the latest one available through the support centre? Anyone any suggestion how I can better the trackpad behavior on my G700 with (buggy) windows 8?? Thanks in advance, hgr

Answer:G700 and Elan touchpad sensitivity

hi hgr,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try uninstalling the driver under Device Manager. on the pop up asking to delete Driver Software place a check on it.
    - Check Control Panel for other related ELAN/Egis Software and Uninstall it.

Try using the touchpad after restart and check if the response is more ok with you.

As an alternative try downloading and installing this one
http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_v16_3_15_1_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Signed...

Some users were able to install synaptics and reported to work fine

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

After Windows 7 reinstall, the Elan Touchpad doesn't work at all. It's completely unresponsive. I reinstalled the drivers after the OS reinstall and the touchpad doesn't show at all in control panel -> mouse. The only thing that shows there is the extenal mouse I'm now using. It also doesn't show in device manager.  I've put images below. Any help to get touchpad back up and running is very much appreciated. CONTROL PANEL -> MOUSE:   DEVICE MANAGER:

It looks to me like Elantech is recognized in control panel and mouse properties. They both have a Elan tab and that's a Elan driver. The PS/2 is your trackpad. You sure you have a Elantech Trackpad and not a Synaptics?TouchPadELANTECHTouchpad Driver11.6.4.001180.3 MB2012/08/31DownloadTouchPadSynapticsTouchpad Driver16.0.2.0101.7 MB2012/03/30Download If you're not sure, run this and id it:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14387/~/hardware-vendor-detection-utility If it is Elan, try uninstalling the driver, check delete software and reboot.Try it and if needed reinstall the driver.
