I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Am looking for a hardware solution: Pavilion DV7 1270 usUPGRADED TO WIN 10  64bit from WIN 7 64bit My current WIFI Wireless/Bluetooth card is an INTEL WIFI LINK 5100 agn. ( Original card) This is NOT SUPPORTED in Win 10... WIFI  no longer works. There are no solutions offered in HP Web assistance or via INTEL or MICROSOFT. I would simply like to find a compatible(upgrade) card that works in this system  with WIN 10? The card is accessible and replaceable ( in RAM Bay... as i remember) INTEL no longer supports this card (to and through win 10) HP Laptops are notoriously finicky with WIFI card replacements...? Short of adopting a usb dongal WIFI/BLUETOOTH option, I would like to effect an internal upgrade to the original card... seems simple enough? Thank You for whatever guidance you might afford

Answer:after win 10 upgrade, intel wifi link 5100 no longer support...

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

list of mini pci-e wifi adapters with 5 ghz support?

does it exist? thanks

Answer:list of mini pci-e wifi adapters with 5ghz support?

Are you just wanting 5gHz or 802.11ac support?

Unless you have a gigabit gateway, or are doing large massive storage moves...you barely need either one.

I ordered an SL500, and selected Wifi 5100, yet when I checked the device manager in vista, it said 5100 AGN.  So what's the difference?  And if there's no difference, why do they allow you different selections: 5100 vs. 5100AGN on the lenovo website when you customize your thinkpad laptop?Message Edited by lenovousersl500 on 12-11-2008 03:01 PM

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

This is a new machine (to me). It is a T-500 2242CTO with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I successfully VPN using Ethernet from this machine and wirelessly from other machines in my home network.  However, wireless VPN connectivity from this machine fails 100% of the time.  Current drivers and updates are installed.  I am using the Windows VPN client and receive the following message: Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed.  I turned on logging and found no useful information, to me, in the mounds of data generated.  I've also un-installed the wireless driver, re-installed it, un-installed Lenovo Access Connections and the same error continues.  Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggested fixes?

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

I have two PCs running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, and two USB wireless adapters. Both are having the same connectivity issue with either wireless adapter. The adapters are:

Neither wireless adapter works in either PC. Here's the specs of the PCs:

WD 80GB SATA HDD + WD 120GB IDE HDD
Rosewill 550W PSU
Soundblaster Audigy 2 SPU
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Sylvania L17 monitor

After inserting the wireless adapter into either PC, I installed the necessary drivers for the devices. After the driver installation was successful, I click on the icon in the taskbar for the internet connections and see if there is a wireless network nearby - but the window says no connections are available. I opened the Network and Sharing Center and clicked on the Manage Wireless Networks link on the left - nothing is displayed. I clicked on the Change Adapter Settings link on the left as well and it displays my Wireless Network Connection as enabled. I right-clicked it and selected connect / disconnect, and it only brings up the same window in the corner that should show the wireles... Read more

I've got a Linksys WUSB300N adapter which Linksys admits through tech support, that it will not work with Win7 64-bit.

So I ordered a Rosewill RNX-N180UBE because it supposedly has Win7 64-bit compatibility, but it doesn't work either.

So I spent a couple of hours on Newegg digging through the feedback of various wifi adapters, and it's starting to look like just about all of them have problems with Win7 64-bit.

Does anyone here have any solid recommendation of one that does? I would be particularly interested in one that works with a Gigabyte motherboard with the realtek chipset.

Answer:Do any Wifi adapters for Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit actually work?

Hi all!

I cannot seem to get any WiFi USB adapter I plug in to my new PC with a fresh install of Win 7 64-bit, to work. Weirdly enough, they work fine on all the other computers in the house, including Macs and PCs w/ Windows XP & Windows 7 32-bit.

- I have tried a Linksys WUSB54GC adapter. I have manually installed the x64 drivers for it. That one is recognized, but when I try to "Enable" it, it will go through the whole process of enabling w/o actually enabing.

- I have tried an Airlink 101 AWLL5077. I have installed the drivers sucessfully (I think). This one works, but it doesn't detect any WiFi networks in the area, but only on my new PC. It detects them fine on other PCs even if they are placed in the exact same location as my new PC.

- I have tried a nameless brand of WiFi adapter, shows up in device manager (on other PCs) as RTL8187_Wireless. Again, this adapter works on every other computer but when I have plugged it in to my new PC, and have installed the drivers, nothing happens. It isn't even recognized.
Original mobo drivers are fully installed. Regional settings are correct, to my knowledge.
Anyone have an idea?
Thanks!
Serra

I've had experience this problem for a while now on my newly built windows 10 rig. Every few hours, my Wifi simply stops working; the connection is lost. Sometimes it reconnects after a minute or so. Most of the time, I would need to manually disable/enable the wifi adapter in my Network Settings to get it back up again.

It happened with a relatively expensive adapter that I bought not to long ago - Netgear A6210 USB 3.0 dual-band wifi adapter. I found a thread about this issue here. I've not been able to resolve it with any of the tips provided (including downloading a generic 3rd party Mediatek driver). I've used this same adapter without this problem on my older Win7 machine. I thought maybe this adapter "went bad".

So I tried to replace this adapter with an older Wifi adapter made by Rosewill, using older Rosewill drivers. The same issue occurs. (Again, this Rosewill adapter worked perfectly in my Win7 system) So I have a hunch the problem is Windows 10 itself. Does it not place nicely with existing or older wifi adapters on the market? Would I need to buy a new adapter specifically certified for Windows 10?

Anyone have any insights on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have E420s (Type: 4401-2RG) with "1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter".I'd like to replace the adapter to a one that works in GHz (in the same time or separately).I tried one from my other laptop but I receive an error while booting about unsupported device. Does anyone have a list of supported WiFi card adapters working with 5GHz for E420s?Does it need to be "Lenovo branded" adapter or anyone from a list? Many thanks/ jahro

Answer:E420s replace WiFi vs. matching WiFi adapters list?

you mean you want to get a wireless card that can operate in 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz bandwidth in MIMO mode? You can get:Intel 6205, 6300, 2x2 11 b/g/n wireless card, but they are all need to be from Lenovo. Aftermarket cards won't work, since there is a bios whitelist that blocks any aftermarket card from working.

Hello, I have a connection speed problem, I'm not able to use the full 300Mbit bandwith provided by my D-link DIR8. I have a Sony Vaio with intel 5100 AGN wireless adapter & Vista OS.

The problem I have is that 9 times out of 10 it will not connect to my home or office wireless network. Eventually it does, though only after switching the adapter on and off several times or rebooting the machine. Sometimes I also have to restart the wireless router.

It will always seem to connect in that I get the connected icon in the notification area (though often without the internet globe symbol) though it will not connect to the net or to any other machine or printer on the network.

Some other useful info:
Both the home and office routers are the same model (Comtrend) and both work fine with other PC's

I often have bluetooth problems also - can take a while for bluetooth to start (I use a bluetooth mouse) and I have 3 unknown bluetooth peripheral devices in device manager

I have McAfee internet security installed

I have tried:
Disabling the firewall
Removing and readding the wireless and bluetooth devices
Disabling IPv6
Driver & OS update
A clean install

Nothing has resoved this issue which is becoming a pain as I can now spend up to half an hour each time trying to connect.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Hello! I have a R500 Series ThinkPad with the Intel 5100 AGN WiFi adapter. The driver for the card has been updated as of today (September 7, 2010). I have a D-Link DIR 655 WiFi router (replacing an old Linksys 54g WiFi router). The firmware of the router has also been updated today. I'm running the router under the WPA-2 standard with AES cipher type, channel width of 40 Mhz on 802.11n mode only with auto channel scan (just as Intel is recommanding). I also followed Intel indications for the WiFi card. Problem is : the laptop just can't connect to the WiFi network...? I tried all sort of things, but to no avail. Can anyone help? Note that when I tried  to use the router under WPA with TKIP and AES as cipher type, the laptop was able to connect at the slow 54 Mbps rate. Thanks.

Answer:Wifi connectivity with intel 5100 AGN

Hi -

The Intel 5100 is one of the best wifi's available. I have one in this system and it performs flawlessly.

I think you'll find McAfee to be the problem here. I suggest that you remove it. Download the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the MRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot.

MRT - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Make sure that you have the most recent Intel 5100 wifi driver. Go to Intel's site -

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=3062

You can check your system manufacturer's site, but I have found they are ususlly 8-12 months behind.

Recently, my Intel Wifi 5100 has stopped working on windows. For no appearant reason, Windows decided that my Wifi card is not good enough to be read. When i open my Device Manager, my Ethernet port shows up, but the Wifi card does not. The wierd part is that the Wifi card gets read in "Splashtop" which came on my laptop. I can use Wifi on the Linux bases OS, but not windows. I've tried installing all drivers, but Windows refuses to acknowledge the presence of my card. Any clue on how to fix this?

Answer:Serious Intel Wifi 5100 problem

Hey, welcome to Vista Forums!
Assuming the wireless card is removable, you could try re-seating the wireless card, also, you could take the card out, and boot, then shut down, and put the card back in, then boot and see if it made any difference.

If it's not removable, check to make sure any wireless switches are turned on.

Please post back with what you have tried, or even if you managed to fix the problem and how!
Hope this helps,
Daniel

Maybe this problem is not the Mobile Intel 4 family express chipset but thw wireless card? I just received an R400 with the above intel media graphics accelarator. Unfortunately, when playing an game like Second Life, it completely locks up the laptop. When in wireless mode, the wirelss connection shuts down. There is no way to get it back without rebooting the computer. The same is true when connected by a LAN. I checked to make sure I have the latest driver for the chipset. As I am sure everyone is aware, millions of people use Second Life for work and play. Its too bad I cannot use this laptop. Any suggestions? Mac

OK so, I have a Netgear N600 (WNDR3400) router, it supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

My laptop is a Thinkpad T410s with a 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II.

I have enabled both of the wireless networks on the router, and given them different SSIDs. I have updated my wireless drivers to the absolute newest ones. My issue is that my laptop cannot even see the 5 GHz SSID. I was under the impression that any N enabled device would be able to communicate on the 5 GHz network.

Can anyone help me out?

Answer:Do ALL wireless N adapters support 5 GHz?

It's common for lower-priced 802.11n gear to not support the 5Ghz band.

The fact that your laptops wireless card apparently does not support 802.11a should be the tip-off that it does not have a 5Ghz radio.

Dear Sir or Madam, I have a Lenovo 4446-25U G530 running XP Pro and equipped with WiFi Link 5100 AGN with driver 12.2.0.11 11-17-2008.  When I attempt to update my system using the Lenovo Care, I get a message to update my WiFi driver to 12.0.0.73.  During installation I get an error message:  c:\PROGRA~1\Lenovo\SYSTEM~1\session\52wi07ww\Vista\Docs\Icons\Thumbs.db  Access is denied.  At this point installation is halted at 80%.  When I click OK on the "Access is denied" window, the installation continues until I get a messge from System Update stating "1 Package was successfully downloaded and installed"  When I view installation history, the updated driver (12.0.0.73) is listed as having been installed, however when I check for system updates using Lenovo Care, it continues to show the WiFi Link 5100 driver as a pending update.  Apparently the installation is not sucessful. Is this a Vista only update that I should ignore? Regards,  Lou

Hi, since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

I Have a Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN, and i was wondering why i am not receiving the draft (N) quality i'm supposed to get i currently own a Belkin N1 Wireless Router.., Please help me with my problem, i also dont have as good connect to my router even though m bro has b/g he gets greater speeds.

Bump, srry i need help, here are the settings.

Answer:Help/Question? Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN

hello ebartolon...
it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

I purchased a T400 (which I LOVE so far) but like a fool, didn't opt for the 5300 3x3 WiFi for $15 more... after some post purchase research, I'd much rather have the extra antennae's for picking up those barely in wifi signals around my house.   Does anyone know if the 5300 card can simply be plugged in to replace the 5100?  It all comes down to whether the 3 antennae's are installed on ALL models, with the connectors ununsed when a laptop comes with the 5100.  Anyone know the answer to this? Regards,-Owen

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

I have a W500 (i.e. product type 4058), with an Intel 5100 Wifi Link 5100 AGN adapter, running Vista 64 SP2 currently running 802.11G. I want to replace my current router with an "802.11N" but want to know whether my current laptop configuration will enable this change to wireless "N"..Can anyone advise me whether I can:        a) upgrade my router only (i.e. to N)....with the current laptop config ?        b) upgrade my router and upgrade this laptop hardware internally to "N" ?? (is this possible or cost prohibitive ?)        c) or is my only alternative to upgrade the router and purchase a Lan Adapter card for this laptop ??? (Note: I have suspicions that my laptop will NOT allow wireless "N" because after updating the 5100 adapter with the most current driver from Lenovo (i.e. 13.1.1.1, dated 1/13/2020), I find that this drivers' properties only provide wireless a, b, and g protocol choices for selection.....no "N" choice is available.) I am not sure whether this laptop's configuration is not capable of "N" or whether some driver and/or parameter is incorrectly set. Does anyone know for certain????(Incidentally, I have also updated this laptop with all required Microsoft Vista and Lenovo 64 bit SP2 drivers.).Thank you for your help.Regards,drc123

Answer:W500 w/Intel Wifi 5100 AGN compatible w/802.11n ?

Drc123, the Intel 5100 card does support 802.11n at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but isn't a very strong performer. For more info, see the following FAQ:I've seen websites that mention other Intel WiFi cards -- what about those cards? What is 802.11n WiFi, and why is it any better than the older 802.11b or g WiFi?I have an HP or Lenovo netbook -- can I swap a better WiFi card into it?BUYING AN 802.11N WIRELESS ROUTER - KNOW THE FOLLOWING OR SUFFERIf you're NOT able to use the Intel 5100 card to connect to an 802.11n router that's sitting next to you, then you probably have a driver issue. Good luck!

Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

Hello!

I recently bought an Acer Aspire laptop (18.4" monitor). I am having difficulty connecting to the internet with this computer, and perhaps someone here can help me out. Here is some information:

Network Adapter: WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Router: Verizon Wireless (Model Name: MI424-WR)

Wireless network connections are detected, and the connection is "strong". However, when I try to connect, it always fails. When I go to the command prompt, and type "ipconfig" I see "Media Disconnected". I know there is a wireless button on the Acer's, but this is automatically turned on during startup, so I know this is not the problem. For some reason, my router is just not connecting to my network adapter, and I am unsure how to resolve this problem. Thanks for any insight of this issue!

Answer:Media Disconnected (WiFi Link 5100 AGN)

Maybe perhaps my wireless router is just not compatible with a Windows 7 64-bit system...

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

My computer is running on Windows 7 Professional 32bit. It has worked fine for the last 2 years. But recently, my wifi card has started me giving me problems. It detects the wireless networks but connects to them only for around 10-15 minutes after which the connection is not even visible in the list. Then after 30-40 minutes, it can connect but the same problem is there.

Also, I tried to make my own ad-hoc connections and saved them. These connections do work and my friends are able to connect to it and the connection remained active for hours. I did it to check whether the Wifi card is working or not. It does work but only with the outgoing connections that are made by my computer. The networks that in range and are giving problem with my wifi card are working fine for my friends. So, I guess it is not the network's problem.

When I tried troubleshooting it, it gave the problem 'Problem with wireless adapter or access point'. I also tried installing all different driver versions and rollbacking to the default version for my wireless card but the same problem is there. Although in device manager, It says the device is working properly.

Please help me in solving this problem. Exact name of WiFi Card in Device Manager- Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN

The same complaints and problems with this 5100AGN adaptor has been around for a long time.

There are countless threads about this on the internet. It seems that disabling the 802.11n Only setting in the routers settings and running in mixed wireless mode can help. Updating the drivers can also help, try the Intel site. > Intel? Driver Update Utility

There are plenty of long threads about this ongoing problem with some possible solutions, so your not alone.

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

After hours and hours of researching why 1) my laptop cannot see the 5 ghz antenna on my Nighthawkx6, 2) researching a solution/ordering/installing a "compatible" Intel 7260 AC chip, 3) reading about whitelists and other nonsense, and 4) spending all day on forums and Lenovo support to fix a known issue, I have finally reached a solution. The phone support technician I spoke with said his software engineers have a fix for the u430 (and MANY other models) that have the "invalid network adapter" black screen problems.  The solution is.....pay for 1 year of advanced lenovo support and they can walk me trhough installing the patch!!! Are you serious? He said my laptop is out of warranty....I said it is not an issue related to any warranty, he would agree, then repeat he can fix if I pay for support.  He somehow couldn't explain why his "go-to" rebuttle is referencing the laptops warranty, even though it is irrelevant.   Can someone help me and the many other people who are having this problem with unknowingly buying a high performance laptop that doesn't support current wifi technology and PLEASE provide the patch so I can install the part I purchased (even though this laptop should have included)?? Any solution, advice, philosophical rhetoric, or useful response in any way would be greatly apprecited! Thank you so much in advance -  Chris

Answer:u430 support for network adapters

Don't waste your time and money paying for support, you would be wasting more money than the cost of an upgrade and get nothing in return.Your questions have already been answered in this forum but I'll sum them up below:1. This laptop (as well as many more expensive ones, Yoga 2 Pro comes in mind) have been outfitted from the factory with an Intel 7260-N card (single band 2.4 Ghz). I was just as surprised as you are to discover it's only single band N but it was listed in the published specs so it's our fault for not checking the specs before buying it. Not that it would have stopped me from buying it just as the 4GB one memory slot didn't. I got an 8GB crucial stick for my U430 and upgraded my wife's laptop from 4 to 8 GB with the 4GB stick.2. Wifi is easy and cheap to fix. Go to ebay and search for FRU 04W3814. This card is an Intel 7260-AC & BT 4.0, dual band AC. This FRU has been confirmed as whitelisted by several forum members and it's only about $27-$30.Install the latest Intel drivers for 7260 (all variations of this card use the same drivers) and you should be good to go.

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.
When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.
Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.
Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

Hello everyone,

It is my first thread on this forum and I want to thank you because you indirectly help me so many times.

I just installed new bios 1.25 on my notebook because of usb issues. Everything works fine but suddenly my wifi device stops working on windows 7.
It is well installed, the connection under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections is enabled, but It doesn't see any WiFi spot.

It is not a device hardware problem because it works under ubuntu.

I tried all the usual ways: reinstall drivers etc but nothing happens.

I don't want to reinstall my OS because I'll have too many settings to restore after.

Is there anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone who fixed it?

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

,Thanks guys

Dear all,  About 2 years ago i upgraded my win 7 to win 10 version and wirelss stopped working. this problem is well known. Many attempts with netsh id config, reset IP, reinstall drivers, trough a USB whatever, nothing worked. I must conclude that the intel WIFI 5100 driver is incompatible with windows 10. I cannot anymore revert my win 10 upgrade sadly.  My question is whether i can install an older version or another driver type that is compatible on windows 10 ??? if so i would gladly have the driver link or zip file posted  Thanks PS, also my touchpad scrolling feature stopped working, i dont know if this could be related, just in case it could help figuring out where the problem is but i guess its just incompatibility.

Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

Hello folks. I have an X61T (7764-CTO) in which the wireless card seems to be failing intermittently. I'd like to replace it with a more modern one, preferably of the 5100, 5300, or 5350 variety. Are there any card w/ these chipsets that are known to work in the X61T? The only card that the Support page lists for this machine is the "ThinkPad abg wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter", FRU 41A4071.  Thanks,Andrew

[quote]The only card that the Support page lists for this machine is the "ThinkPad abg wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter", FRU 41A4071.[/quote] I was able to run with an Lenovo branded Intel 4965.  I don't have the fru handy...I would think if it were supported, and if lenovo still sales the device it would be on the accessories & updates page after you insert your model number on the left: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/accessories But since the X61 is replaced by the X200, I don't see a lot of options under wireless & networking anymore. I would also like to know if anyone has had any luck with these lenovo branded wifi/wimax cards in their X61?

i slapped on vista ultimate 32, the intel 5100 will be in device manager without any problems.  the only for me to get the blue led to light up again is to do a uninstall in device manager and reboot.  vista will then detect new hardware and reintall the wifi all over again.  this does work but to do it every week suck.  i dont want to buy a new internal or external card either.  this happen to anyone else?

Answer:Y430 intel 5100, blue wifi led doesn't come on. Not fn + f5 problem either.

To clarify, the wireless works, but the blue LED doesn't and the fix you described only temporarily fixes it?  Have you installed all the other drivers as well; the ones located on the d:/ drive?

I saw the version for my intel wifi link 5100 to be of version 12+ but i understand that the latest driver is version 13. I downloaded the latest firmware from the internet and intel website but after updating/reinstalling, the driver is still version 12+. Hello. We are receiving T400 laptops.  These laptops do not hold a wireless connection for any length of time.  They also have a hard time connecting at boot up.  Item that have been tried...01) Removed and re-installed Drivers.02) Removed and reinstalled Access Connections. (Leap Authorization is used)03) Removed and replaced the Wireless Card. FRU 43Y6943. We are using Windows Xp with SP 2.  The laptop runs fine and we have no complaints with the exception of the wireless.  I might mention that we had the same issue with T61 Models.  To resolve this issue, we removed the B/G/N card and installed B/G cards.  We do not utilize "N" Band, so we do not need this capability.  I was looking for a way to do the same to the T400 Laptops, but I am unable to find a compatible B/G card to use.  The BIOS generates the 1082 error if we attempt to use a card that is not approved for the model.  Any assistance would be appreciated... Thanks. Hey guys firstly thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

Recently completed a custom install of Windows 7 64bit version. Have installed all the Windows updates and drivers from HP.

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

1. Reset router and apply settings again. (**Remember to write down any user names and passwords used for your ISP**)

2. Use WPA2-PSK security rather than WPA

We're in hospital, she's I'll, I am 24/7 carer.

My Vostro 1720 connects promptly at home, WiFi or LAN.

Hospital has public use WiFi provided on each floor. Transmitter has TP-Link on the cover and twin aerials.

The Vostro can see transmitters for 4 floors, the signals come & go and, regularly disappear.

2 iPads & an iPhone stay connected unless, the signal disappears, in the same room. Signals are described as excellent or good.

The Vostro when I bring it in, after using at home, connects automatically. Twice has reached the stage when all 3 links I can see with a decent signal, can't connect, sometimes get asked for the password, run trouble shooter multiple times with no success. First time internet connection worked for 2 days, 2nd time for an hour, then couldn't log on to any link.

I'm puzzled why the Vostro doesn't hold the connection and the IOS devices do.

Public holiday over in a couple of days and I plan to catch the lady chief of the hospital and the IT manager.

I would be most grateful for queries, comments or, references to help in these encounters.

Thank you and regards

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... Acer Aspire 5930g laptop with Intel 5100 WiFi adapter. Been testing Win 10 Tech Preview, switched off WiFi via built-in system switch and since than it completely disappeared from the laptop. Which means when I press WiFi button on the laptop there's no light, the adapter itself is missing from the system ? even in hidden devices. But all the other buttons (Bluetooth, browser) work well. I've tried switching back to Win7, running WinXP from LiveCD, various Linux distribs ? no result. Tried other adapters (all of them Intel), it didn't help. Actually the system found Intel WiFi/WiMAX, but only WiMAX drivers were installed. Tried flashing BIOS, also didn't help. Been advised to install native ACPI utility with hardware buttons drivers. While trying to find it I stumbled upon a software called Acer Drivers Update Utility. It's a third-party software which scans devices and proposes to download driver updates for them. For some money.Yet while scanning it found the card (at least, listed it among devices). When I was scanning the laptop was connected via LAN, and after scanning Windows notificated about installing some bridge and PCI drivers. The button was working, and so was the WiFi card. The next day, when I opened my laptop (as far as I remember, I didn't switch it off then), WiFi disappeared again. I've tried reinstalling the system and repeat the "magic" with Update Utilty, but failed. Of course, I've tried force-installing the driver... Read more

Most of my computers have linux on them, exept my new netbook. This laptop already has an internal wifi card, but I found several unused external ones. I was starting to wonder if having those plugged in and working along with my internal one would speed up my connection at all. The internal card isn't that fastest thing in the world so I am just trying to find a quick solution to it. Thanks.

Answer:Wifi adapters, More than one any help?

Nope. Your computer will just select the fastest and use that. The others will remain unused.

Courtney

P.S. The computer will use the fastest reported card. That is, if one Wi-Fi reports 300 Mb/sec, but only goes as fast as dial-up, it will get selected over a 54Mb/sec that is actually faster.

We have fairly new HP DV7T laptops, with the internal Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN card..

We have been through 3 access points at this point, i just now confirmed that i dont think our issue is access point related, at least not the type etc...

Frequently these laptops will suddenly not find ANY networks (wireless ones) to connect to..

Other laptops (dell, asus, iphones) still work fine during these periods.

I've tried playing with configuration settings on the nic itself with no luck.

Currently we have a Dlink Dap-2553 access point.. set to the 2.4ghz mode (since we still have devices that need 2.4ghz)..

I'm not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, short of using express cards, which we dont want to do..

Anyone else ran into this?

Thanks

Hello Guys ,
I have Asus K550L Laptop
Working on Windows 8.1

my issue is that i installed more than wifi adapter during last few months to try which of them works better for me and stuff...

well i finally decided that ALFA AWUS036NHV is the one i want to use as my wifi adapter so i installed it and started working on it but i get many connection hiccups and issues.

and i been recommended to disable , deactivate and delete all the old wifi adapters
and also disable the wifi adapter that built in the laptop and to get my new adapter to work successfully.

the problem is i really don't know much about this stuff so i actually don't know which are the old ones that needed to be deleted and how to do so..
so can you please guide me to disable all the old stuff and reinstall my new adapter?

Regards

Answer:wifi Adapters issues

Go in Network and Sharing, click on Change Adapter Settings on left side, right click on an adapter not being used and select disable, it should then appear with a red X. When only the adapter you want to use is active and enabled, do you have good signal strength, does it drop connections, can you see other connections available?

have been trying without success to search if the small usb type wifi adapters are secure.
the instructions do not state this, the only information referring to passwords, is when connecting to a secondary device, e.g. a wireless internet gateway.

when using the adapter other users devices are found, is it possible to snoop around my computer through the usb adapter, (not the gateway) without my knowledge, or are these usb adapters automatically secure.
confused about this as the only information about security deals with wireless routers, which only makes it more confusing.
had assumed any wireless device connected to a computer could be a possible entry point into the computers files.
came close to purchasing a second usb wifi adapter to test (from another computer) if it was secure, or if it was possible to create a connection between both computers without a password.

if it is possible to connect without a password, cant understand why this important information was not in the setup instructions.
the device is a netgear wna 1100 adapter, using vista sp2 home premium.

posted a query in another forum, the answer refereed to a router, but no clear answer whether or not the adapter needed to be password protected.

any clear advice would clear up the confusion.

Answer:are usb wifi adapters secure ?

A USB wifi adapter only allows you to connect to wifi networks. It basically functions like a normal network card in your average laptop, but transfers data through your USB port. With that in mind, the easiest way to answer your question is to say that it's just as secure as any laptop with a network card would be.

I think you're a little confused. Technically, the USB wifi adapter does not give you any inherent security. The security comes from whatever network you're connected to, and whatever firewall/antivirus program you have on your computer. So simply plugging this into your computer won't effect your security. Now, if you plug it in, and then use it to connect to the public wifi at a library of coffee shop, then yes, other people on the same wifi network may be able to get into your computer, and/or monitor your internet activity. But ONLY while you're connected to the same network as they are.

On the other hand, if you use it to connect to your home wifi secured with a password, then only other devices on your wifi will have potential access to your computer. As long as the network is secure, your computer should be too. Now, it's always possible that someone could manage to break your router's firewall, and launch an attack on your computer. But this is a very, very minimal risk you'll have to take no matter how or where you get online. So an additional firewall program on your computer adds another layer of security an attacker would have to break through to ge... Read more

Has anyone experienced a wider range with an external USB wifi card compared to a laptop internal card?

I see cards that look like a thumb drive and then some that look like a mini router with antennas. Wondering if there's really a big difference before I attempt to make a purchase. And if you've had a positive experience, who made it?

Alright, so I just installed Windows 7 on a seperate partition, and now I have two OS running on a hard-drive. I installed all drivers, but I can't get wifi running on it. I tried using device manager from windows 8 to find the driver required for wifi. After a few trial and error by installing drivers (mainly installing realtek and intel chipset) it still didn't work. How can I get wifi working on windows 7 on this laptop? Currently connected to the internet via a Ethernet, but that won't be the case in the future. Really need wifi for windows 7 to be complete.

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in... Just like what you would see for an EthernetAdapter..... this all looks a bit weird to me.....As I did not configure this laptop, I do not know if the Hotkey and Power Manager were installed BEFORE the Access Connections or not.... any ideas? TIA --Zvi

Hi
I have a modem router downstairs throwing out a 5ghz ssid and also a 2.4ghz ssid. Was thinking of using power line adaptor from modem router to upstairs to connect to another wireless router to improve WiFi signal upstairs. However I see there are new power line adaptors that create a new WiFi signal using house wiring as one connects by Ethernet to modem router and then plug the other adaptor upstairs. Thing is does the adaptor plugged upstairs throw out both ssids?

Answer:powerline WiFi adapters speed

Yes if you buy the correct ones click here

Hi, I've posted about this before, but as I got no reply, I think I'd better do so again.  Basically, the Wireless N-2230 and various BT adapters on this machine are insane. If I switch the BT off, the WiFi refuses to work, and even spontaneously 'loses' its drivers sometimes! The BT itself misbehaves when this happens, and sometimes keeps switching itself back on when I try to turn it on. I've tried everything, but the only thing that works is a forced reboot. In addition, I've had a 'Fan Error' AND a second Thermal Sensing Error this week.  Are there *any* software fixes I can try before going through an expensive motherboard replacement to save this machine? TIA for answers

I've had an on-going problem as documented here:
Wifi loses connection every few hours (tested on 2 diff wifi adapters)

It sounds like a very similar problem to what many others have reported regarding wifi problems with Windows 10:
Windows 10 internet connection dead every two hours
Connection drops completely when trying to use the Internet

And there's tons more complaints like this on Google if you do a search.

I've tried many things (as suggested in those threads), and so far none have worked. What I'm trying to do now is to manually set my wifi driver to something else, but Windows 10 isn't allowing me. I have plugged in two different USB wifi adapters (one is a Rosewill, the other is a newer one by Netgear), and I have installed the manufacturer driver files that come with those adapters, but it seems Windows 10 ignores it. When I go to my

The driver listed is this:
Driver Provider: MediaTek, Inc,
Driver Date: 6/6/2014
Driver Version: 5.1.16.0

I have tried to use the "Update Driver..." process to manually set it to manufacturer drivers. No dice. It just says "The best driver software for your device is already installed."

I also tried the "Uninstall" button to get rid of the MediaTek driver. But after I reboot the system, Windows 10 automatically installs it again.

Answer:Can't change drivers for any of my USB wifi adapters

What model Adapters are you trying? Many use chips that are the same and MediaTek may be the manufacturer.

Hello and thanks in advance. Please forgive any lack of knowledge I

may have. I am somewhat pc savvy but not much. My older desktop pc

doesn't have wifi built in so I have used an external usb adapter.

Most recently a ralink one. It started having issues and i would

disable then enable and would fix the problem. Then one day my pc

wasn't seeing it at all. I thought it might be the usb extension i was

using and plugged it directly into my machine that worked about 10

mins. I ran the troubleshooter and got this message "The wireless

network adapter is experiencing problems" so then i tried a second

adapter that has also worked in the past with the same exact results.

In device manager it says it is working properly. in the network and

sharing center under change adapter settings its there but it says its

disabled. when i click enable it says it enables it but no changes at

all. then when i click diagnose it says "There might be a problem with

the driver for the wireless network connection adapter" "windows

couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network

adapter" so then it says try these repairs as an administrator so i do

and it gives me the same error. The only fix i have tried that did not

work was going into computer management under services and got the

error "windows could not start the WLAN auto config service on local

computer Error 1068 The dependency service or group failed t... Read more

Hello everyone!

I am new here but not to the repair business. I started fixing in April of last year so computers and phones are my areas. Currently I have a client`s desktop that is having issues with wifi.

The desktop currently only has an ethernet adapter and the client requested to add wifi to it. So I tried the wifi adapter they had purchased and it gave me a message saying the drivers aren`t working. So I took it home and tried my own nano wifi usb adapter and it couldn't find the driver, so I searched and located it. Now, it says the "network adapter is not working properly", so I went and bought an internal wifi adapter card and installed the drivers and the same message came up! The drivers are there and show up in device manager, if I go to change adapter settings I can enable/disable it. However, it still shows an X for the Wifi signal regardless so no wireless networks will show up. Any suggestions? Would you like more info on the desktop?

Hi All,

I have an internal wifi card and a USB one.

I have two APs,
Adapter Name = WifiPh, SSID = AP1 - connects to Internet via tethered phone 192.168.143.1
Adapter Name = WifiLAN SSID = AP2 - connects to local wired LAN router 192.168.3.37

On my laptop (win8.0) it shows
WifiPh
AP1 <-- Set Connect Automatically
AP2
WifiLAN
AP1
AP2 <-- Set Connect Automatically

Providing both Adapters are active then it works as required. But, if the WifiPh is it not running (phone off, flat battery) then it connects WifiPh+AP2 and that is not good as the Gateways are totally different.

Is there some way I can force WifiPh to ONLY ever connect to AP1 and similarly, force WifiLAN to ONLY ever connect to AP2?

Thanks

Answer:Two wifi adapters How to define who connects to which

You could try turning off Broadcast SSID then delete/forget the network you don't want to connect to. If I'm understanding correctly.

i am facing a problem with my intel pro set wireless program. Iam unable to manage wireless profiles with this program. After i install the driver,i was able to use the intel pro wireless progam. After i restart my system, it says,"no nosupported wifi adapters available in the system". i am using windows xp sp3. with 1gb ram.. 32 bit.. please help..

Answer:no supported wifi adapters available in the system

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager do you see any devices with yellow marks, especially under Network Adapters for your Wifi adapter? If so, if you have a name brand computer (Dell, HP etc) then go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in your service tag# or your make and model # and download the specific Wireless Network Adapter for your particular computer.

I have a Y500 with the craptacular Intel Centrino-N 2230.  The wireless speeds are disgustingly slow, and randomly drop my connection as well.  I've scoured this site and a few other forums for tips.  Have tried so many different drivers (no difference), modified my router settings (no difference) and opened up the laptop to reseat the wifi card and reseat the white and black cables.  Reseating the white and black gave me a slight performance boost.  I went from about 2Mbps to 3Mbps on download speeds.  But the download speed varies so much, it is not uncommon to see less than 1 Mbps.  Meanwhile all of the other devices on my network have no problems on my Airport Extreme.  To rule out my Airport Extreme, I also hooked up my DGL-4500 and an older D-Link model, but saw no improvements. I'm wondering who here has replaced their wifi card with another?  I am seeing reports that the BIOS restricts what models can be used (THANKS, LENOVO).  While I see that there are a few mentions here and there of possible compatible cards, I haven't seen any posts from owners that have successfully replaced their stock wifi card with one of these. Anyone?  Thanks in-advance.  Love this laptop, aside from the terrible wireless.

Answer:Alternative wifi adapters for Y500?

Welcome to the forum.Did you ever see a movie called "Catch 22"?According to the Y500 HMMhttp://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pubideapad_y400y500_hmm_1st_edition_sep_2012_english.pdfThese are the whitelisted wireless cards you "should be able" to upgrade to:Unfortunately, you can't buy one from Lenovo. According to their sales rep, the FRU numbers are only for their maintenance techs, so they will know what part to order, for a replacement! So I think you would have to go to one of the stateside "Service Providers" and beg them for a wireless card. Funny though, I called up EVERY service providers within 100 miles of my location, and they either said "We don't deal with individual consumer, only corporate orders" or the provider does not deal with Lenovo "anymore". (Even though they are still listed on the Lenovo "find a service provider" site)Welcome to Catch 22, Yossarian! If you search on e-bay, you "might" find a card in this list that specifically states it's "Made for Lenovo" or some such nomenclature. However, Caveat Emptor. The only way to really get what you want in an upgraded wireless card, is to use a modified BIOS that eliminates the whitelist. Then you can buy whatever you want. All I ever wanted was the ability to use the 5 Ghz channel on my router, as my Intel N-1000 only has the 2.4 Ghz band. I guess I shouldn't complain to you. I get consistently good wireless connections at 144 max rate. DragonRider

Hello,

sorry it's not strictly related to Win 10 but this forum Always solve my issues so... please help.

I am looking for an adapter that allows a device that is only ethernet to connect to a wifi router.

This look easy but I totally misunderstand why I find only repeaters, extenders with that function that I want, but not ONLY the function that I want.

I don't want any extension of my wifi, or another SSID in the house, I only want a device that is ethernet to be connected to the main wifi router.

I absolutely cannot find something like that.

I hope that thing exists, once I see one that worked for a smart tv without wifi, and that one was not a repeater or a bridge, it was only a client wireless for an ethernet output.

Please HELP.

Answer:Ethernet to wifi adapters... they still exists?

Hello Pipppero,

If this device is a PC that has a USB port, then you could get and use a USB WiFi adapter to connect wirelessly to the router.

Here's an example: USB WiFi Adapter | AC1200 (A6210) | NETGEAR

My 3yo laptop has a mini-pc Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG wifi adapter that's been working solid for as long as I've had the machine. Up until now I haven't even considered the value of an additional wifi adapter.

I just bought a 3COM OfficeConnect Wireless 11g PCMCIA card and tried installing the software. Windows didn't make the process easy and doesn't seem to want to identify the new adapter. However, before I spend any more effort on making the new hardware work, I feel the need to question the point.

Is there any practical benefit to having two wireless adapters installed on the same XP system? Would I be able to connect to the same router "twice" and somehow increase my connection speed? What about two different routers? Does the 3rd party manufacturer software just get in the way of making such a thing possible? How would program access to the network adapters be controlled?

Answer:Solved: Using Multiple WiFi Adapters

Q1 No
Q2 No
Q3 perhaps but windows will only use one and doesn't handle being multihomed very well.
Q4 3rd party software is required to run the propriety hardware.
Q5 only if you can specify a router/ip address/gateway to go out in the program otherwise apps default to the windows routing.
