OpenCL detection problems

Question: OpenCL detection problems

Hello! I work and study in CAE/mathematical modeling field. Now I'm trying to use OpenCL on my laptop. According to all the utilities I've tried I have no OpenCL support, although I know that it should have, at least early versions. E.g. FurMark didn't even recognize my dicrete card. It simply stated that I only have the Intel HD Graphics.GPU Shark says the same.GPU-Z tells me that I have both, but no OpenCL support on either of the devices. At first I could't even start a simple example in OpenCL, because the "Getting started guides usually suggest to look for a cl.h header in your $(AMDAPPSDKROOT) folder". I have that environment variable set to an existing folder, but it contains no libs, headers or anything close to it.I've installed Intel SDK for OpenCL to check the available devices through OpenCL API. It says I can use only CPU. Hardware: AMD Ati Radeon HD 7670m; Intel HD Graphics 4000; Intel Core i5 CPU;BIOS info: InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev. 3.7; f.12;The device manager recognizes both devices correctly (from the first glance). According to it both devices' drivers are 8.982.10.6000 from AMD.I have been studying this problem for a couple of days already and found only two direct statements that it IS possible to use OpenCL on my Radeon card:https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html (Call me Mr. BrightSide, but I assume they should have tested it)andhttps://community.amd.com/thread/162244The reasons I didn't use the second advices are it's not my computer they were talking about and as far as I know there exists quite a number of problems with [re|de|in]stalling AMD drivers on Windows (Win 8.1 in particular) and especially on laptops with switchable graphics like mine (by the way I have never tried switchable thing out, so I don't know if it works). Anyway I would like to use OpenCL on this computer, so if anyone has some knowledge, please share it with me. P.S. I don't know if it's of any importance but C++ AMP, for instance, recognizes Intel HD Graphics card well, but not the Radeon.

Preferred Solution: OpenCL detection problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: OpenCL

I have both an Intel HD 4600 GPU (Core i7 4790k CPU), and Radeon R9 285 card in my desktop. Anyways, since the HD is pretty much unused I decided to enable it in UEFI settings for the purpose of running OpenCL stuff on it.

Anyways I'm looking for software that can take advantage of OpenCL.

Answer:OpenCL

It hasn't really taken off kind of like WiDi. Good luck finding anything worthwhile that uses it.

Just bought this new i7 z510. Downloaded and tried to run this program called resolve lite for video. Install the program and open it, it says NO Open CL acceleration hardware found.  What the hell does one need to buy a new dam laptop if it doesn't even have up to date things like open cl in it.   If someone knows how to instal a program that fakes open cl or something so I can run resolve please tell me. Thanks.

hey guys long time lurker here, usually i find solutions on my problem but this time around, i have no idea what to do!

Short story: ran sfc /scannow and got the message "found corrupt files but cannot repair," specifically regarding Opencl.dll. Can i fix this w/o doing a reset?

Long Story (in outline form):
- got a new SSD
-with my old HDD still in place(with w7) installed w10 thru usb in the SSD
-It worked, and thru the desktop i transferred files from my old HDD to the SSD
-tried to format the HDD thru my computer, did not work, got some error
-proceeded to format the hdd through w10 installation usb - worked
-changed the boot order so SSD load first
-got an error saying no OS is found
-plugged in w10 usb and did "repair my computer" - worked
-able to access desktop, play games, etc.
-decided to run sfc /scannow to be sure, and got that error
-did a disk cleanup and then ran sfc again, still the same

also i have attached the log that i got from the sfc

Perhaps not, even if you were to do a clean install at this point - see here: SFC some corrupt files can not be fixed

Normally, folks would advise that the next step is using DISM to repair this problem but, if you check the thread I linked above, you may decide you don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Question: Missing OpenCL.dll

Hi All,
So, I upgraded to Windows 10 a day back using the media creation tool, and the install went fine. After I restarted the PC for the first time, I got an error saying that OpenCL.dll is missing. I searched online forums and it said that it might be due a problem with your graphic drivers. So, I updated the driver with Device Manager, but it said that the driver is upto date. I still get the problem after every restart.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Answer:Missing OpenCL.dll

Could you look and let us know what driver version you are using please? (quick way to look- right click on your desktop, click nvidia control panel, then in the bottom left corner of the dialogue box that opens hit system properties)
In case you are unsure, the box looks like this:

Hi guys.

I am hoping you can help me as i don't wish to do a full reinstall. Spoke to Microsoft who couldn't help. I have looked through the excellent tutorial posted on here with regards to SFC issues but i'm unsure if i am doing something incorrect as, the ISO i got from Microsoft website, has an install file with a .wmd extension.

I am on the following build:

When i run SFC i get corrupted files could not be repaired message:

I have saved the log of the above scan which i have attached. Please forgive me for the possibly dumb question but do i know download the 1511 iso? DISM is saying source files not found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the Tutorial steps don't seem to fix the problem unless its me which most likely is!

Everyoen know that Windows 10 x64 and latest geforce forceware drivers are giving problems... in fact 355.60 WHQL release was bugged as hell and give a lot of problems, like VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL BSOD.

Today nvidia realeased a beta drivers to fix that issue...

I want to do some opencl development on my Alienware 15 r2  nvidia gtx956m gpu).  Nvidia provides developer drivers sdk's (3.6.4.72-notebook ) but provides a warning that not all OEMs support these. Does Alienware support the nvidia drivers? If not, what is the recommended way to install cuda/opencl + developer drivers so I can do opencl development in visual studio?

Posting this here, since it is mostly an OS related problem, not the Camera. I just now have started to have this problem. Normally, when I hooked up my Canon Powershot A75 I could just drag and copy my pictures I took. Any time I hooked up the camera to the USB spot on the back of my laptop XP would recognize and open the directory up. However, now any time I plug my Camera in, it shows it as an unrecognized USB device. The Camera is fine, but something went wrong under the hood with the USB set up. I tried reinstalling any drivers that are associated with the camera through the Canon website driver area, but it seems to have no effect and it still isn't recognized. Has anyone run into this problem before? I have two USB ports on the back of my computer which it lists as "Unused port" in the USB menu along with "unknown device" when I try to plug in the camera now. Is there a way to manually set the driver? I'm at a loss at what to do. Thanks to anyone who can offer even SOME help!

(When I check in the device manager and plug in the camera it gets listed as "unknown device." I can't seem to change the driver or set anything at all. Or even find the regular camera usb driver. Everything is as uptodate as possible. I don't know what else to do...)

Answer:USB detection problems under XP. Please help!

Have you tired pluggin the camera into a different computer to make sure it is not a problem with it. You may also want to try a new cable if that does not work.

OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend.

If you are interested at all in multi-core programming, this tool (Open Computing Language) could become the standard for years to come in "what may be the best solution so far to the general problem of parallel programming." It does both task-level and data-level parallelism (aka SIMD) and some parallel-programming languages can't do the latter.

Answer:OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend

Some of the parallel processing examples are best described as *way cool* (I don't drag out such language for the average stuff ).

Don't know what Nvidea's plan is with both CUDA and OpenCL support. As both do broadly the same thing why are they pushing their solution so hard? Anyone know any good tutorials for OpenCL (or CUDA for that matter, but there's more out there).

It'd be a shame to write two programs for two different machines.

A programming language: https://www.khronos.org/opencl/

OpenCL defines an application programming interface (API) that allows programs running on the host to launch kernels on the compute devices and manage device memory, which is (at least conceptually) separate from host memory. Programs in the OpenCL language are intended to be compiled at run-time, so that OpenCL-using applications are portable between implementations for various host devices.[12

I installed another 512 stick of pc2700 i think, the problem is that in system information, it says I only have 512 mb of ram when it should say 768 mb of ram. Ive tried all the different combinations of moving the sticks around but none of it worked. I tried the 512 mb stick by itself and it said only 256mb. Im pretty sure the ram isnt damaged because I made sure i was grounded when i installed it. Any ideas on how to get the full power of my ram?

When I turn on my PC with the modem turned off and later on try to make a dial-up connection having turned the modem on, I cannot make a connection. It's as if the modem was not detected, if however I restart my PC with the modem on, I can then make a connection without any problems. When I first discovered this anomally I looked in Device Manager and the modem wasn't listed but after restart it was there. Believe me I have no idea what I've done, but this problem hasn't always been there.
Help, Tense

Answer:Modem detection problems!!

Hello there,,,,,
I think your problem is that when you open your PC with the modem turned off is like is nor there and the drivers are not loaded normally. Did you tried to go to device manager and press refresh to see if it detects the modem. Is wise to turn the modem on just before you turn on your PC or use an internal modem ( they are very cheap) so that you wont have to turn it on every time you want to use it.....

first of all, I'm new, and this looks like an awsome site, I hope you can help me

my problem is when I reboot about 90% of the time my cpu and memory test does not detect or happen, it detects my hd's fine, then it goes to the windows loading screen and never loads. So the only way so far to get it to detect and be able to get into windows is by going into bios just not changing anything, then saving, then rebooting, then it detects it, but then the next time I restart my comp it does it all again. I've tried flashing my bios, reseting my bios, remounting my cpu with new coolant, remounting my memory, and reformating, still with no success. This just started happening recently, help pls

my specs are:

windows xp pro

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2100+

1.73GHz, 768MB of RAM

GA7N400L Motherboard

GeForce 6600 gt videocard

Answer:problems detection program

Hi,
It depends what type of problem you are trying to identify. If it's malware/virus you need to post a HijackThis log in that forum here at TSG
Instructions here:
http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/622404-posting-help-read-first.html
You'll then need to await a qualified expert from TSG to guide you through putting things right.

If it's not that issue, perhaps you can explain more?

Hi everyone,

First time poster, but long time reader here on the forums.

Here is my situation:

I have a 500GB WD Elements harddrive that I used for backup and storage. Kept it out of the way and used it to throw my gigantic home movies and such on. All was well until yesterday when it decided to just freeze up as I tried to access it. I'm running XP with SP3.

I've taken the HD out of the case and hooked it up via the SATA cable to my motherboard. I'm using the Ultimate Boot CD along with some other tools like Partition Magic to drive and get *anything* to actually see my HD. My BIOS doesn't officially recognize it - "Internal Phy SATA 1" is there in the BIOS but it's blank - doesn't say "None" - just blank. I can go in and edit the SATA 1 properties but it's just the IDE generic stuff.

On to the real problems. When I run any sort of utility that invokes "InitDisk" or tries to read the partition tables I get errors like:

"Error read partition table drive 00 sector 0BIOS reported 0 sectors/track, assuming 63"
or
"InitiDiskBIOS reported 0 sectors/track assuming 63"

I'm assuming that this means that the MBR or partition table is hosed on this drive. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

The problem is I can't even get the MBR tools to recognize the hard drive. They sometimes register that there is an actual device (like SPFD gives 1 Hard Drive detected, but trying to lo... Read more

Ive had this computer for about 4 years and it just recently having problems detecting USB external drives.

The drive that it first showed a problem was my WD My Book, which always used to be detected just fine before. I would connect the drive and it would show up as being detected but when I went into it it would show that there was nothing there. Looking in properties it would show that the file system was raw and that there was 0 bytes of free and used space. I connected the drive to another PC and that PC detected the drive normally, all my data was there and intact.

Since the drive didnt seem to be the problem I when and formatted my internal drive and reinstalled Win XP on it, but that didn't fix the problem.

Just recently there started being problems with my iPod. It would be detected normally, but when I would try to copy a file from it using windows explorer to my internal drive my system would freeze. The iPod also works fine on other PCs.

The only other thing I connect via USB is my nintendo wifi connector and that hasn't had any problems.

Ive been thinking of getting a new PC just so that I dont have to deal with this problem, but if anyone can help me fix this I'll be real thankful.

Hey guys.

I'm using XP SP3. I don't think there is anything else required to understand the problem. Anyway. Today I plugged in my microphone and, as usual, on desktop I saw a window that showed 'microphone device' (you're able to choose any other hardware device, such as speakers, etc., but it won't let you do that until the right device is plugged correctly) and requested to click 'ok'. Instead of doing only that, I clicked on "do not detect future devices" or something and only then clicked 'ok'. Is there any way to turn it back again? I see no problems with other devices and I'm sure it happened just after that window, where it asked to choose if and what new device is connected.. I tried CP>add hardware -no effect. My point is - I'd like to get exactly the same window popping up. If it's possible, without re-installing/pairing windows.

Thanks for the answers, already. In case I would get lost.

Answer:Problems with 'new devices detection'

Click Start and then click run and type services.msc and look for the plug and play service and set it to automatic and start it if it is stopped.

Haloo, am using hp elitebook 6930p and it has a problem of wifi detection. i have downloaded some drivers but upon installing them and uninstalling the old ones the old drivers reinstall themselves automatically. so am unable to use the new drivers. what can i do to prevent the reinstallation?

Answer:WIFI DETECTION PROBLEMS

Please perform a few steps to try and resolve the issue. Open windows Control Panel, open Power Options and next to your currently selected power plan, click Change plan setting.  In the following window, click Change advanced power settings.  In the next window, open up 'Wireless Adapter Settings' and then open up 'Power Saving Mode'.  Next to On battery: click the current setting and a drop-down box will appear - select 'Maximum Performance'.  Do the same for Plugged in.  Then click Apply and Ok to save these settings. Restart the notebook and see if this has helped the issue. Also open device manager. Go to Network adapters and expand it. Select the wireless network adapter for your device by right-clicking on it and clicking on properties. Then go to power management option and uncheck the box that says? Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Also, check the box that says ?Allow this device to wake the computer? Please  uninstall and reinstall the network drivers from device manager. Please update the bios and the wifi drivers from this link http://hp.com/drivers You need to select the country and language. Then enter the product# of the unit and follow the on-screen instructions to update it. You could use HP support assistant to do it as well.  Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  ... Read more

Hi,
I have a big problem. Today I used CCleaner and it deleted about files and folders of 250MB. After this operation, My OS could not detect my CPU, RAM and security programs. For example, when I right click on Computer, it says Processor: does not exist, RAM: does not exist. Also when I open security center, it says no firewall, no vir?s program found. And also, system information tool of vista does not work. It says some files were moved or they are missing. I tried to restore backup but I could not. Now, how can I repair my vista or correct these problems?

Answer:Vista Detection Problems

I solved one of the problems. Now Vista detects my hardware. I used a batch file that I found via google. I typed the following text to a text file. And saved as FIXWMI.CMD Then I runned the batch file and it solved.

@echo on
cd /d c:\temp
if not exist %windir%\system32\wbem goto TryInstall
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
net stop winmgmt
winmgmt /kill
if exist Rep_bak rd Rep_bak /s /q
rename Repository Rep_bak
for %%i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %%i
for %%i in (*.exe) do call :FixSrv %%i
for %%i in (*.mof,*.mfl) do Mofcomp %%i
net start winmgmt
goto End

:FixSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemcntl.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemtest.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (mofcomp.exe) goto SkipSrv
%1 /RegServer

:SkipSrv
goto End

:TryInstall
if not exist wmicore.exe goto End
wmicore /s
net start winmgmt
:End

Now the only problem is security programs. I will try to reinstall all programs. I hope I will solve this problem also.

Nvidia Mulls Over Porting PhysX to OpenCL - X-bit labs

"Nvidia May Allow GPU PhysX to Work on ATI Hardware

Nvidia Corp. said that it could eventually port computing of physics effects created using PhysX middleware to OpenCL application programming interface (API) and capable hardware. This may actually enable acceleration of physics effects processing on graphics chips to work on ATI Radeon hardware.

At present PhysX middle-ware is used to make physics effects on various platforms, including video game consoles and personal computers. In virtually all the cases processing of physics effects is performed on the central processing units ? x86 chips in case of PC, Cell in case of PlayStation 3 or PowerPC in case of Xbox 360 ? however, there are handful of games that can take advantage of physics computing on Nvidia GeForce graphics processing units (GPUs) that support CUDA technology. The latter is virtually Nvidia?s proprietary API and is naturally not supported by chips developed by ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices. Due to such limitations not a lot of game developers are implementing GPU PhysX and enabling acceleration using DirectCompute or OpenCL is one of the best ways to popularize processing of physics effects on graphics processors.

?In the future it is a possibility that we could use OpenCL, but at the moment CUDA works great. [Our GPU] architecture allows for acceleration by other things like OpenCL. Nvidia works very closely wit... Read more

Ad-Aware detected that a TH was attempting to invade my computer ( XP ) It quarinteened it.

I immediately engaged the ZoneAlarm Internet lock and disable the network connection.

I ran Malwarebytes which also found a few problems which were deleted.

Avira had alread updated for the day so I ran that but it seemed to run twice and also found 2 problems but the button to delete them wouldn't work.

I rebooted and got an error message which said: Couldn't fint the file C/WINDOWS/irobovisidu.dll

I ran the scan disk tool but got the same message each time the computer reboots.

Last night I updated Dr.Web and ran that. It was still running when i went to bed. 6 hours later it was still running and had processed the same 26,000 files as when i went to bed.

All morning I'm trying adawre again. It crashes and reboots the computer with the same error message.

Now I have Avira running again which will take no less than three hours.

I did a google search for irobovisidu.dll and the is nothing.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on?

All of this happened after engaging in the non-sensical arguemnet with my GF about putting a car remote start up to a cell phone and starting it via someone elses cell phone. I told her it was a hoax but she didn't believe me so I goolged it and found a web-video from myth-busters. It was during the viewing of that video that the TH came in.

Hello and welcome. I moved this from XP to Am I Infected. Please post your MBAM log.The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in Malwarebytes.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system. Its not unusual to receive such an error after using specialized fix tools.A "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scr... Hi all
I have a problem

I'm trying to fix a friend's computer, and cannot figure out this error:

Setup has detected that you are running a version of Windows that already includes the updated files or enhancements you are attempting to install

Details:
Do not install previous versions of Internet Explorer on Windows 98. Older versions of Internet Explorer will not permit Internet Explorer 4.0 to function properly. If you accidentally install an older version of Internet Explorer over Internet Explorer 4.0, uninstall the older version of Internet Explorer and then reinstall Internet Explorer 4.0.

The thing is, my friend is not trying to install anything. She is simply using the internet.

The version number for IE is:
5.00.3314.2101 Internet Explorer 5.01 SP2 (Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0)

She is running Windows 98 (build 4.10.1998)

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for viewing this post.

System will only boot maybe 1 in 10 times because it seems to have problems recognising the hard drives. I have checked cables and replaced with the cables that came with MOBO.

I have upgraded to latest BIOS.

Spec is:
Gigabyte 8S648-RZ
P4 2.53 Celeron CPU 533FSB

Hard Drives are Fujitsu MPC3084AT primary, MPG3204AT secondary.

Any ideas greatfully received.

Welcome to TechSpot

When you change your mobo, unless it is an exact replacement of the old one, you will have to reinstall Windows, no matter what version you have. This is because of all the different drivers for the new chipset, audio, LAN, raid, etc.

I have a Seagate 500 GB External HD, and it used to work fine with my PC, and then Windows decided that it didn't want to detect it anymore. Instead of working, it shows up in the Device Manager as "USB Device". Luckily, the computer was due for a reformat, so I figured that whatever the problem was, it would be fixed after the reformat. I was right. Unfortunately, when I started re-installing all my software and drivers, the problem happened again. This is leading me to believe that some of my software is causing this problem. Is there any kind of software/drivers that could cause this seemingly random issue?

I have a few problems with my computer lately. For a while now, whenever I right click on my desktop, it appears that explorer.exe always freezes. It wont let me make a new folder, go to my desktop properties, etc. I always have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to quit explorer and restart it. I can right click inside of other explorer windows, just not on the desktop. Thats been going on for about a month now.

Something I just encountered is basically identical to this one: http://forums.techguy.org/security/466615-malware-wipe-pest-trap-annoyances.html

Hi all,
I've been seraching these forums a lot for a solution to my problem, but although it seems many have a similar problme, I haen't found the exact same one with a solution. So here goes:
My Realtek HD Audio-configuration software keeps detecting that a jack has been inserted in the front panel - needless to say that no jack has been inserted. After a few seconds, the software will detect that the jack is no longer connected and a a few seconds later, once again, the jack seems to be connected again. This goes on and on and on. I've uninstalled, reinstalled but to no avail.
I've deselected automatic popup dialouge if something is connected, but the popup keeps popping up.

Thx in advance.

Oh.. and tried modifiying the settings in my bios for the frontpanel from HD to ac97 but issue still remains. (read somewhere that that might work but didn't)

Flashback,

Let's start from square one first. Rootkits are only a problem if they get onto your machine. Then you want to be able to defeat them from installing, and wipe them off of your system.

How do you protect yourself from Rootkits getting onto your system - i.e. how did they get there in the first place. Perhaps a port probe found your IP address and an open port. You need to stealth your ports, so the port probes do not see that there is a computer behind the IP address. The second attribute of your firewall is that it notify you of unauthorized outbound connection attempts. ZoneAlarm Free or Sygate Personal Firewall will help in both regards. Windows Firewall does not help with regard to outbound attempts.

Look at the website: http://www.firewallleaktester.com/tests.htm for the test results as of last October 13, 2004 of some firewalls and at the home page some more information on firewall leaktests.

In order to detect Rootkits, use RootkitRevealer (freeware) available from: http://www.sysinternals.com

when i plug my mic into the jack at the back of the tower (it has a microphone icon), my mic is not detected as the line-in says "not plugged in" under recording options.

i'm not sure if my mic is bad, but i'd like to attempt a troubleshoot before i buy a new mic.

Hello,
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and I'm trying to install my Linksys Wireless - G PCI Adapters - WMP54G. I followed the Windows XP installation instructions (turn off PC, open case, insert PCI Adapter into PCI slot and turn on PC), but then it is supposed to be automatically detected but its not. I've tested both cards on two seperate computers. I can't install the driver either. When I put the disk in the program pops up for about a split second and then disappears. The same thing happens with the driver from the linksys ftp site. I'm also working with Linksys to resovle the problem, but obviously I'm still having problems and I'm losing confidence in them. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time,
Jacob

Answer:Linksys Wireless PCI Detection Problems

Ok, I got it all figured out and working properly now. Thought I'd post the solution just incase anbody else has this problem. Linksys got back to me saying this:

"All Linksys PCI Network Adapters require PCI Bus Mastering slots to function correctly. Some motherboards do not have Bus Mastering PCI slots, however please try the following if you are unsure:

Shut the computer down and remove the power cord from the power supply.

Switch the card to a PCI Bus Mastering slot. (If you have a PCI Modem installed but are not using it, we recommended using that PCI slot for the network card, as most manufacturers will place the modem into a Bus Mastering slot.)

Boot the machine again and the card should be detected automatically."

I recently purchased a SOHOware 10/100 PnP PCI Ethernet card, and after inserting the card into the PCI slot and restarting the computer, the card is not automatically detected by Windows 95 (SR1, by the way) as it should be. In fact, it is as if the card is not there at all. I tried manually installing the driver, but after restarting the computer, the card is flagged with the hated exclamation mark in Device Manager. The status message does not indicate any conflicts, but rather indicates changing the driver for the card (which I have done several times). I even removed other PCI cards and placed the ethernet card in other slots, but with no success. The tech support people at SOHOware told me that this was because my motherboard doesn't support bus mastering, but I checked that; it does. I checked my BIOS setup to make sure that it was set to level (it was). Does anyone have any ideas? Anything? Please, if anyone can help, please do!

My brother was having startup problems on his Dell during startup. It would continually tell him he had hard drive failure.

So, I get the brilliant idea of putting his C drive into the D drive of my deal to run Scan disk on it. Well, now my computer won't start. When XP tries to load, it goes to a blue screen saying that it is shutting down to prevent damage.

I've gone through the bios and startup options and nothing is giving me any hint on what's going on. Half the time in bios, it does not detect my hard drive.

Help?

I'm not really sure where to put this, as it covers many different errors, but basically what is happening is this; when I boot up my computer, half of the time it doesn't detect my main hard drive. Even when it does, it still trys to boot off my secondary hard drive, despite the other one being higher up in the boot order. So, if i select it maually, it boots windows, before bluescreening. I have anywhere between about 30 seconds and 5 hours before it bluescreens. When it bluescreens, it either gives a kernel stack inpage error, a kernal data unpage error, or it tells me that a critical thread has been exited unexpectedly.

Does anyone have any ideas? I will try to find more information if people need it.

My son is running a PC with XP pro. I ran AVG antivirus and it has detected 3 viruses in a zip file (count.jar-43c66fb6-14c3949a.zip) called BlackBox.class, Verifier.class, and Beyond.class. I tried to follow through on the AVG suggested removal which says if you haven't got Java plug-ins installed you can delete the appropriate file. When I do this it appears to prevent access to the internet. Any advice much appreciated.A bit of further info, on boot up it keeps generating a message that New hardware relating to an Ipod has been found, even though no such item (we don't have one) or infact anything is plugged into any of the ports.I am not sure if the Online gaming that appears to have installed itself in favourites(and cannot be deleted is any connection, it also appears to have installed a browser bar at the bottom of the screen which also I don't appear to be able to remove.

I can't get the intrusion detection on my 2005 Norton Internet Security to work. I have no other firewall or antivirus running. I have looked up the problem number, but nothing I have tried has worked.

I also can't get any websites to work while internet security is active. I have the settings set as default and have had no luck while they were set on low. I know this is probably a simple problem but I'm all out of ideas.

Hi,

I have a Dell 8200 w/ 80 gig Maxtor drive. It works well. I recently acquired a new Samsung SP0411N 40 gig drive.

Both drives work well by themselves.

However, if I connect both drives (Maxtor as primary master and Samsung as primary slave), after a very long time the BIOS detects what seems to be like no drive on primary slave and messed up name for primary master (something like CA82smiley-HP#l0d) as a 49999MB drive.

???!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Dan

Just download driver and add it to unpacked directory where are other infs and install.

Now you can use OpenCL, CUDA, DirectCompute, Physx (enable it in CP) and nVidia GPU Acceleration for Adobe Flash Player (install new 10.1 beta 2 flash player by adobe)

This inf is optimized for DEV_0A74&SUBSYS_FF401179 g210m.
If you want me to add more devices please post what devices you want and i will but you will have to test it.

Hope this helps.

Answer:Satellite U500 - INF file with OpenCL, CUDA for Nvidia driver

Thanks for that but usually it?s advisable to use the Toshiba graphic card driver due to the GPU overheating protection.
Other drivers don?t support such protection and the usage of such drivers can cause an higher temperature which could affect the GPU chip?.

Need some help. I have two USB external hard drives that have been working fine for a long time. I could power them on/off as needed, no detection problems. Then last week I got one of those fake XP Security Anti-Virus attacks. I got rid of it with Malwarebytes. That virus is gone, but strange things started happening. I then had no audio. I managed to fix that with a long process of fixing the "PnP software enumerator" and registry fixes, steps I found in another forum. Audio is now ok.

Then my external USB drives were not being detected. Other USB devices work ok all the time- mouse, KB, TV.

I have already done a lot of research and testing at this point I got the two ext USB drives working again but with some detection/hang issues. I found they worked ok in Safe Mode. I then fixed a setting in BIOS to make HD first boot device. That got windows to finally detect the ext USB drives again. I have also done a windows repair (when trying to fix audio). And reinstalled essential Dell drivers (chipset, etc)

Here is my current problem: my two ext USB drives are only recognized and working ok when:

1. they must be powered on before a system cold boot (else windows hangs at "starting up" logo). A wamr restart/reboot also makes windows hang at "starting up", even if ext drives are still powered on.

2. must use the integrated onboard video for my VGA monitor - using geForce 7300 LE hangs windows at startup ... Read more

Hey there, Seems like my pc's been infected for a third time . This place was very helpful to me in correcting my previous problems, cleaned my pc twice without having to do a thorough format and re-install. Anyhow, let me get started on my problem. My problems started on April 1st. At first i thought it could probably be the Conficker strain of viruses. The problems that begun were :1) Nod32 [completely updated] begun detecting multiple attacks. Since i've it on 'Strict Cleaning' mode, it quarantines the item itself. I Want to point out that from my last clean reinstall (February 2009) up till April 1st, i had a mere 4-5 attack attempts which were successfully blocked, but since April 1st, the number has gone upto about atleast 60. Here's a pic : I know the details mention that's it's a Trojan downloader but i wasn't completely convinced that it wasn't Conficker, because April 1st = sudden attacks. Coincidence? Maybe. And yes, i'm not exactly a professional at this stuff 2) At first they were all svchost.exe related virus attacks. I also noticed that in the 'Task Manager' a particular 'xp.exe' had a strange behavioral pattern. It seemed like there were attempts to completely halt the process but the process would show up instantly again. And everytime Nod32 quarantined the scvhost.exe related attack, a new svchost.exe would start up, with the older one still clearly running in the Task Manager. Now this would take... Read more

Ok my mothers computer has gone wierd after working fine, it's an AMD Athlon 3500+ , 2.5GBs DDR-400, Foxconn 939 board, 4 year old WD Caviar 250GB win XP Home SP3. Anyway it had a disk read error after verifying DMI Pool Data, then actually booted into windows but as it was loading blue screened. I am wondering whether the hard disk is going bad :/

Anyway what I WANTED to do was plug it (the potentially bad hard disk) into my PC and copy the important data across, format the "bad" had disk and copy the data across.

However when I plug it into my PC depending on which SATA data cable I plug in it either: tries to boot to windows XP, or give me a disk mgr problem and wont boot any OS.

I have tried changing the boot order in the BIOS but my pc's hard drive isn't even detected just the "bad" one. I have also changed the jumpers to no avail.

help very much appreicated

Cheers.

Hi everyone!

I'll cut right to the chase: I've been having some serious problems with wifi detection. There are times when the wifi is detected successfully, but most days, my laptop can't seem to detect any. The wifi light goes on and off as well. Also, there are times when the wifi suddenly just goes off and fails to detect any, even after it has already started working.

Usually, I have to turn off my laptop and wait for it to cool before the wifi starts working again. I already have that power save mode option unchecked, so I don't really know what's causing the problem. Once my laptop goes hot, the wifi suddenly disappears.

Any ideas?

Hi, I've migrated a few weeks ago to Windows 10 from 8 and it's driving me crazy.
I've been experiencing several intermittent problems since then:
1) Every now and then I get the critical error "Start Menu and Cortana aren't working...". I have to shut down the computer (restart doesn't work, changing user session neither) for this error to disappear.
2) The USB mouse I use turns off also every now and then. I have to plug it out and it again several times until it detects it again.
3) Sometimes I'm listening to music or watching videos and the sound stops automatically. The music program I use (foobar 2000), stops too. Videos continue but without sound. I have to restart Windows to get sound again.
I didn't had any of those problems before migrating to Windows 10, so I guess they are related to Windows 10 (and maybe even related to each other). I've googled for solutions for each of the problems and tried a few of them, without luck. It's difficult to check if a solution really works, because the problems are intermittent, they don't appear always.
I wanted to go back to Windows 8, but I don't want to have to reinstall everything and I've read that the "easy" solution for going back is only available for the first month with Windos 10 (and I've been more than that now).
Do you know what could be causing my problems and a solution for them?
Thanks a lot!

I have Win 10 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Vostro 3460 with Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM and Crucial 1TB SSD. All Dell diagnostics pass, Windows fully updated.
About 2 weeks ago (April 2016), the Windows Update for Version 1511 finally arrived and it is now at Build 10586.218
A few days (2 or 3) before that, IE 11 and Edge started to misbehave. It's possible that some final pre-upgrade-to-1511 upgrade did this - it is equally possible just a co-incidence.
The symptoms are that IE11 will open up but the address bar does not get populated and after a few seconds, it just disappears again. Edge does similar. When this happens, I sometimes try Firefox but that takes a long time to start - at least it starts. Chrome usually starts within a short time. There is no sure way to get IE and Edge back again. Rebooting sometimes does it. Usuallly, I have to use Turn Windows Features on and off to turn IE 11 off then on again (which given a restart is needed both times is timeconsuming).

Hello people, my problems started after attempting to download an ISO of WindWaker from Emuparadise. I read from others online that the site is safe and there should be no problem if I just download the game. After the download ended, however, Webroot Security alerted me to a virus it detected. The files it quarantined said something about winrar, but I still assume it was in the Windwaker file I just downloaded since that literally just finished downloading when I was alerted. I deleted the quarantined files and tried to see if I could still play WindWaker. I couldn't, as a pop up appeared that said I didn't have the righ programs to run this file. I looked up this alert, and apparently it's a registry problem that occurs when something important in the registry was deleted (I didn't mess with the registry). I downloaded another antivirus just to double check that some sort of virus wasn't deleting stuff in my registry, but both antivirus softwares said there were no threats. I also tried to redownload windwaker from emuparadise, as people online seemed to think it was a false positive malware detection, and the first two times I visited the site I got a BSOD that said IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. The third time I successfully downloaded it again, this time without any virus detection notice, but the pop up still came up when I tried to interact with the file. I'm pretty confused about what to do here. I'm thinking that maybe one of those quarantined files I deleted was importan... Read more

I have a new notebook I've had about 6 months now... an Acer Aspire 1640 notebook (1.8 ghz processor, 1gb ram, 160 gb hard drive, windows xp)... been running on my home wireless network for a while now.

Then today, 'all of a sudden' it doesn't detect any wireless networks (which is odd because I usually pick up 4+ as I'm in an apartment complex).

I turned off the PC, turned it back on and nothing. I right clicked on the network icon in the sys tray and clicked repair and get the following error:

Windows could not finish reparing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Connecting to the wireless network...

I also get a "Wireless Network Connection is not connected", wireless network unavailable bubble popup.

Also... I noticed a few weeks ago that I could no longer share files between my PCs as I once could. They all have access to the internet, but will not share, and they all show up under workgroup computers, and have select files and folders turned on, but the 'shared' files will not show up on the network.

Lastly... I have a Dell Inpiron 6000 notebook that is detecting the wireless network and the other available networks in the area... If I leave the Dell on too long, it will no longer access the internet, and I have to do a complete reboot to get it to reconnect and function correctly. Suggestions are appreciated.

Hi everyone.

Ok, here’s the deal. I bought an external laptop hard drive from a friend. It runs on USB and my friend says that on his all he does is plug it in and it works fine. 20 GB.

Now, I’m using xp. Shouldn’t it be detected as soon as it’s plugged in?

Why is this not the case? I plug the drive in, and absolutely nothing happens.

It works on my windows 98 BOMB of a computer, and so I’m wondering what the bleep is going on here? Isn’t xp specialised for things like this?

I would appreciate ANY help. Any questions, just ask.

Thank you to all in advance.

Answer:Usb Detection

do you mean you can plug your usb printer in ,turn it on and it works fine, turn it off and plug your mp3 player in to the same port and then turn it on and it will not be recognized. make sure these things are removed properly (safely remove hardware) and if they were not you may have to uninstall then re-install the software

Question: SSL VPN detection

Ok, all you pro security nuts. How/(can) do you handle detecting SSL VPNs? For instance, using my SSL Explorer setup here at the house, I can easily punch a hole right through any proxy I've tried, allowing me to say browse the net unfiltered, upload files, download files, even create a bridged vpn connecting both networks. On one hand SSL VPNs are great for businesses to allow them to secure access to internal resources easily, but when turned around they pose a security nightmare because the traffic is inherently trusted. All you need is a browser and possibly java.

I've only thought of 2 solutions. First, a snort rule that looks for an abnormally large amount of traffic via a 443 session. The problem here is that your only able to catch it after the fact, and after X amount of data has already been transmitted. Only a few KB would be needed to say infect the host, so this isn't a good solution. Another that would work against my situation would be to look for unsigned certificates. Not even sure how to go about that, but I'll bet some way exists to do this on the fly. But then again, if I wanted to spend $30, I'm in the clear again. The other thing already in place is black listing, however, homebrews are not by nature, so again, fail.

Thoughts?

Answer:SSL VPN detection

just block all 443 traffic!

Seriously, I'll have to try that through an astaro box. I have used Astaro to successfully block anonymous web proxies and LogMeIn/GoToMyPC, etc. I haven't specifically tried an SSL VPN yet.

Question: no ide detection

ok i know there is a harddive in my computer but when it boots up and i go into bios. i try to detect it but it's not there. it detects the cd burner when its hooked up to the same place as the harddrive was , with th same cord also, it will detect cd burners and stuff but not harddrives. i've also tried differnt harddrives. also when i let it boot up it says no boot record on ide , cd , or floppy even though a mandrake 10.1 install cd is in the cd drive.
do i have to do something to make it detect the mandrake cd. it's searching for the boot record so maybe it doesn't want to see mandrake. but any help would be usefull.
Thanks.

Answer:no ide detection

Your IDE controller may be going bad. That is if you have actually set the jumpers on the hard drive correctly, honour the plug order for 80-wire cable and have set the computer to actually try to boot from the CD or floppy.

You should try with another bootable CD too in case the one you have is bad.

Question: IP Detection?

Hey yall,Im having some problems with the conficker worm. I have cleaned it from my computer and several other pcs. and have Symantec Endpoint installed on them. But im having an issue when i log in to the pcs, symantec says there were detections while i was logged out. When i check the logs it says it was the conficker. Is there any program i can use to detect where these infections are coming from? Looks like symantec is blocking it. But its getting sent from some pc on my network. and i do not know which one Any help would be appreciated thanks! ---PandaPS Sorry if this is the wrong section for this type of post

Answer:IP Detection?

Hackers use "port scanning" to search for vulnerable computers with open ports using IP addresses or a group of random IP address ranges so they can break in and install malicious programs (viruses, Trojans). Botnets and Zombie computers scour the net, randomly scanning a block of IP addresses, searching for vulnerable ports - commonly probed ports and make repeated attempts to access them. If your computer is sending out large amounts of data, this usually indicates that your system may have a virus or a Trojan horse. If your firewall provides an alert which indicates it has blocked access to a port that does not necessarily mean your system has been compromised. The alerts allow the firewall to notify you in various ways about possible penetration and intrusion attempts on your computer. It is not unusual for a firewall to provide numerous alerts regarding such attempted access. However, not all unrequested traffic is malevolent. Even your ISP will send out regular checks to see if your computer is still there, so you may need to investigate an attempted intrusion. You can use netstat, a command-line tool that displays incoming and outgoing network connections, from a command prompt to obtain Local/Foreign Addresses, PID and listening state.netstat /? lists all available parameters that can be used.netstat -a lists all active TCP connections and the TCP and UDP ports on which the computer is listening.netstat -b lists all active TCP connections, Foreign Address, St... Question: Detection

Hi  a small business i do IT work for were hit with a Crypto virus zendrz file, its now removed and all data restored, im just wondering, whats the best AV or tool to detect and stop these infections before they get on to the system

Answer:Detection

The best defensive strategy to protect yourself from malware and ransomware (crypto malware) infections is a comprehensive approach. Make sure you are running an updated anti-virus and anti-malware product, update all vulnerable software, use supplemental security tools with anti-exploitation features capable of stopping (preventing) infection before it can cause any damage, close RDP if you do not need it, use secure passwords and routinely backup your data...then disconnect the external drive when the backup is completed. If you must use RDP, the best way to secure it is to either whitelist IP's on a firewall or not expose it to the Internet. Put RDP behind a firewall, only allow RDP from local traffic, setup a VPN to the firewall and enforce strong password policies, especially on any admin accounts or those with RDP priveledges.Use an Anti-Exploit Program to Help Protect Your PC From Zero-Day AttacksThe smartest way to stay unaffected by ransomware? Hey Folks - Just purchased my first USB 3 HD, and my W510 can't see it. I'm dual-booting this system between Win7 and Win2008 Svr R2 and see the behavior on both OSes. USB 2 devices work fine on the 3.0 ports, and the USB 3.0 drive is detected with no problems when I put it on the single USB 2.0 port on the machine. The drive in question is a WD My Passport Essential 1 TB (USB 3.0). Anyway, I've installed the following on both OSs...I suspect I'm just missing a driver and/or a BIOS setting: Intel Rapid Storage Driver:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74430 USB 3.0 Driver:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74435 USB 3.0 Firmware:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75165 USB Bios settings are "On", "On", and "Automatic". Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello,

I've installed ATA Center 1.7.2 and Ata Lightweight Gateway on my DC.
Everything installed correctly, I don't find any errors in both gateway and ata center logs.

The problem I have is that I can't seem to get any alerts. I've tried both logging in with one honeycomb account and listing a DNS zone.
In the the database I dont have any NTLM events.
Can someone help me?

THank you

Hello! I have a Gateway GT4224m, since I got it the fan was really noisy and used to burst and stop completely.

Asked support and they said it was ok, so, got used to the huge noise and bursts every 15-20 seconds.

Anyway, the fan was detected by speedfan and lavalys Everest program. Now, the fan is dead and i replaced it with a CoolerMaster Blade Master 80.

The fan is running smoothly no big busts, but now that i tried to check speedfan and Everest, the fan is not detected at all.

Did i do something wrong replacing it? Or do i need to install some sort of driver for the cpu fan to be recognized?

There is no error messages so far. And temperature fell down from 70°C to 34°, before it used to be 41" with the noisy fan.

Thanks!

Answer:Detection of a new CPU fan

Did you plug the new fan into the same fan header as the old one? Is it plugged into the motherboard?

An alarming trend seems to be showing up in a lot of security suites. Detection of zero-day threats is at an all time low. A zero-day threat is a piece of malware that is new enough that it has not yet been detected by an anti-malware company and thus they do not have a signature for it. Several high profile antivirus and anti-malware suites have failed this portion of testing ever since it was implemented in the Malware Geek standard test in September. The group includes Symantec's Norton Internet Security, McAfee Internet Security, avast! Antivirus, Avira Antivirus, Sunbelt's Vipre Internet Security, Dr. Web Security Space Pro, and Webroot SecureAnywhere. What is up? All of these well known and well respected security suites are lagging behind the times and are falling victim to unknown, silent malware. You would think that these well known companies would surely have some sort protection for those threats that they do not have a signature for. However, it is exactly the opposite. Are they just waiting for a bigger and more destructive piece of malware to come along before they do something about it? With hundreds of new pieces of malware released on a daily basis, you CANNOT rely solely upon signatures to catch everything.

Answer:Zero-Day Detection . . . . Where is it?

I have purchased used HP dv2000 micro tower PC. Its specs are 2.8Ghz, 1GB, 160GB IDE. The mother board is Lite-on nr146. This is what I have. Vista was running fine. I installed a used 80GB IDE HDD after removing processor due to very tight space, it was duly detected by the system. As I am easy with XP instead of vista, so I thought to instal XP on 2nd HDD and used 1st HDD as data storage. XP installed and working fine, but to my bad luck the system did not detected 1st HDD (160GB) even after playing with its jumpers. I presume that this problem has something to do with IDE Channels on the mother board. Any advice please!!

Answer:Detection of 2nd HDD

did you have both hdds installed when you had vista installed? i just want to clarify that this is correct.

when you boot are both hdds detected by bios? What happens when you swap the hdds? This is known as use a known good piece of hardware for testing.

Question: AV Detection

In PCMAG tests, sometimes tester tests the detected samples modifying them. And most of the AVs couldn't detect all modified samples. Guess this means those AVs are not flexible.

Some AVs could detect all the modified samples. Guess those AVs are flexible & good.

I read Bitdefender free review & it detected all the modified samples.
Fsecure couldn't detect all the modified samples.

He doesn't perform modified samples test in all the reviews, dont know why?

Which are the AVs that are flexible & detect the modified samples the same as the original?

Answer:AV Detection

Hello,

The reason a security product may not have detected a sample after modification is because it may have detected the sample via a hash checksum like MD5, SHA1 or SHA256. When the bytes in the executable are changed, the hash checksum will also change. Therefore, the vendor may have a signature for a sample, but then the sample modification will cause the hash checksum to change. If the vendor does not have that new hash checksum in their database for the modified copy, then it will not detect the sample.

BitDefender (as an example) may have detected the sample after modification because they had generic detections for those sample. For example, HEX. HEX detection (included for generic detection/heuristics) is where the bytes in the executable (or file, not just executable) are scanned. The product will look for a pattern in the bytes which it can detect and classify as a certain threat.

For generic detection, if the pattern is in any sample with the HEX then it will be detected. This means a change in the bytes won't remove the product from detecting it, unless they removed the bytes from the application which consisted of the pattern of bytes the AV product had been picking up.

Hope that helped.

Cheers.
