I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a fujitsu siemens PC 2,4ghzPentium4 CPU. My sound is built in Realtek AC97 audio plus there is a MPU 40 compatible MIDI device. This problems has only recently started , very irritating to say the least. I have checked re drivers there seems to be a vast array so not suire which , if any , to install. I have logitech speakers and subwoofer which appears OK. Would welcome any suggestions. So called "geek" in local pub suggests installing sound card and switching oft builkt in audio set up Any views? Welcome suggestions/advice please. dave

Answer:sound distorted and crackling

That is a pretty old system; at least 3 generations of intel cpu. As to what is causing the problem, it can be a failing audio chip on the board, corrupted drivers, etc.

You can remove all audio drivers and install the driver from realtek and see if that helps.

I assume you have already checked speaker connections and tried the speakers on another system to see if it is a speaker problem or a problem with your system.

As for buying a sound card and disabling the onboard sound, that is fine however I would not be putting too much money into that old of a system. Do not buy one of the expensive creative sound cards; just get a basic one from newegg.

Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago I bought and downloaded a copy of the "AOS system optimizer" and after using it to 'optimize' my system it instead screwed it up big time... now my sound crackles and stutters when I play all media, online or offline, dvds, youtube, games, etc...

Technical support from them didn't solve my problem, needless to say I've asked for( and gotten) a refund from them, but I'm still stuck with this annoying problem..I've tried the usual methods, such as rolling back drivers, uninstalling all the audio drivers (Nvidia and Realtek) restarting and letting win7 reinstall them, all to no avail

Here is how my audio 'profile' looks like :

Answer:Crackling and distorted sound in Win 7

The RealTek would be your PC's sound device. NVIDIA is for HDMI only. I don't know what you have for the USB device, but that may be interferring and causing some of the problems.

However, the PC "optimizer" (also know as registry repairers, PC speed up, etc) can do many things that device drivers along cannont fix. Ultimately it may take a complete reinstall to get the PC operating fully and properly.

The first thing, is the USB device, disconnect it temporarily, restart the PC and see if that makes any difference. Also, if you are not using the Acer supplied RealTek sound driver, get that and install it. Generally the PC Vendor's driver is the preferred driver.

Hello all...
This is my first post on this forum in a desperate attempt to fix my audio problem. I have been reading forums and attempting fixes for days with no avail. I hope someone here can help me :(

For about one week now my sound has been crackling/is very distorted... After reading up on forums many people have said the main cause to this problem was a driver incompatibility issue between windows vista and dell sigmatel cards. I have attempted to try and unplug/replug in the speakers while also checking checking for a possible short along the line and found nothing. I then moved onto uninstalling the sigmatel audio driver from sound drivers as well as the high definition sound codec from my drivers menu and tried to install just about every driver I could find off the internet and nothing has worked. I read on one forum that someone uninstalled and reinstalled their ATI drivers and it worked for them so I tried this as well since I have an ATI graphics card and of course it did not work either. I run an analog out from my graphics card to my TV which I use as my main monitor, when I turn up the speakers on my tv I encounter the same distortion, this is why I'm almost positive its a software issue and not hardware. I tried playing a movie through my TV with a dvd player and it was fine, and I also played music through my speakers with my ipod and no distortion. The only time there is distortion is when Im using my computer. I am extremely frustrated at ... Read more

Distorted/crackling sound when playing songs. Need to reload software each time to stop it. Goes ok for a short time then, it would appear that some action causes the problem to start again.

Answer:Satellite P100 - Sound become distorted/crackling

^Hi!

Have you checked the Windows sound settings?
Maybe there is a wrong option.

You should also make sure that in the Sound software are the settings correct.
As far as I know you have a Conexant sound card and therefore you must have similar software like Sound Effect Manager on notebooks with Realtek sound card.

Hey Guys...

So my Packard Bell Easy Note MX37-S-200 has suddenly started making persistent " Crackling " and " Popping" noises from the moment i boot it. The noise is coming from the speakers and the sound is now distorted. I have very recently got it back from the repair shop after having my AC jack replaced... I would really like to rule everything out before i start pointing fingers at the repair guy

Things i have tried - Disabling sound driver - Noise was still there and laptop just installed it again.

Running avast scan through it - Scan picked up nothing.

Played with the sound setting - Nothing changed noise still there.

Plugged in PC speakers - Noise still coming from laptop but sound came out of the speakers fine.
Would really appreciate any help
Thank you

Answer:Crackling noise coming from laptop speakers + sound distorted

My guess is that based on the information provided that the wires for the speakers have either been damaged or crossed in some way where they are touching something they shouldn't causing distortion. My advice would be to take it back and tell them whats going on and make sure to have them fix it for free if they opened it and caused this problem.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

Dear readers,

I'm the owner of a toshiba l665D and there is a problem.
Every time i have to use something involving
sound it sounds rubbish.
The sound isn't played smoothly there are pauses and there is a big cracking
sound sometimes in it.

This is not because of the speakers, I have also tright it through the headphone tube.
Could this possilybe because of a damaged soundcard.

It's sound really rubbish and the laptop isn't even 2 years old yet.

What could it be?

Answer:Satellite L665D - sound isn't played smoothly - crackling sound

Hi

I think this is not related to faulty sound card but due to old iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver.

I found an thread about very similar issue.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=60231

Update of the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) to version V10.1.0.1008 or higher should solve this problem.

I recommend trying this out!

It isn't always there...it comes and goes, but it's pretty ugly. I thought it might be a sample rate thing, but I changed those settings in control panel.

Anyone use that card with vista successfully?
bp

Answer:distorted sound in vista/createiv x-fi titanium sound card

I had a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic in my rig and I constantly had distorted audio - manifesting in the form of 'crackly', echoing sounds. Really frustrating, I tried all kinds of solutions including a clean uninstall of the audio drivers, replugging the sound card in a different PCI slot, etc. For a while everything would be fine, and then back into crunchy-sound-land...

My rig used to have Windows XP Pro as the OS, and the sound card worked perfectly. It was only after I changed the OS to Vista that the woes began.

This is probably not the solution you want to hear, but after 2 years of despair I flogged the card on eBay and bought myself an Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1 card. Although that is still an X-Fi it works beautifully in Vista, absolutely no problem with the sound since.

Hi.My laptop model is hp 15g009ax.When i stop hearing song or any audio in earphones, after approximately 6 seconds I hear a quick crackling sound. The crackling sound comes after any sound that ends or After the specific application that is playing the audio is closed). I will tell you what is did to stop this.1) I updated the sound driver from hp support website specific to my model. Didn't work2) Tried the earphones in other phones and lapotps. Working fine.3) Thought the problem is with windows. So dual-booted windows with Ubuntu 14.04.1. When I tried Ubuntu without installing it, earphones seemed to work fine without crackling after sound ends. But after installing Ubuntu and checked, the same problem repeated, but this time crackling sound started coming before the sound starts and after the sound ends. This is very irritating and after reading some articles about this problem, Some said the problem is due to interference(Not sure) of motherboard with soundcard. Can you please specify the source of this problem and a solution to it.Thanks In Advance

I've been having issues since February's windows updates with crackling sound typically in DirectX games and some video playback such as Steam. In an effort to isolate the problem out I've gone over all my drivers and dust contamination yet again this month. I removed both the 3.51 and 4.01 Klite packs and the VLC player I had been using. Registry cleaned and defragged.

My sound card is an Audigy Fatality champion series with the front panel breakout box.

June 3 2009 driver for it #6.0.1.1373

Dxdiag attached as well.

Next on my list is to see if maybe there's new drivers for my tv tuner capture board which does have sound card resources apparently.

As a side note, I use Ventrilo daily. When ever I launch it after a fresh reboot and connect to a server it locks the PC up for like 90 seconds before behaving normally and displaying the MOTD. It's done this for maybe 6 months. Whenever I have bad game problems I can generally disconnect and reconnect from the vent server without that little annoyance. I want to lay the blame at DirectX, but I've tried several forced updates of it without any improvement.

Playing in the APB beta as well, and thru tips from those players disabled multimedia network throttling in the registry which improved in game performance there a ton.
I really do not want to reload this machine as it takes an eternity to get everything back the way I like it.

Hello, about 3 days ago i bought a sealed brand new HP OMEN 17-W03np which comes with Windows 10 Home (64-bit), i noticed there were some problems with the sound which have been a constant problem since day one. Before and after any sound plays there are these pops/crackling sounds that are noticable (and pretty irritating), the sound appears to play fine after it starts but in a few occasions the sound actually started breaking and there were random pauses while playing sound. There was also this one time the volume randomly went up and down on its own when pausing a sound (in this case it was a video) and then playing it again.Random pops/crackling have also happened while i was on my browser on web pages but there was no sound sources in the web page at all. I've attempted to use earphones while testing sound, and while using them the pops/crackling sound sometimes come out through the earphones, but sometimes they also come out through the notebooks built-in speakers despite the fact the sound is then played through the earphones (which i found pretty strange). This is my first experience with HP and i have to say i am feeling quite dissapointed, could this be a software problem or will i have to send my notebook back? I'd also like to point out that no major program/software installations have been done as this is a brand new notebook so most of the programs/software in it right now are the ones that come pre-installed with the notebook. I will a... Hi folks,

Recently I was setting up a VPN client (PacketIX), and the setup wizard suggested some Audio/Video Streaming "Optimization" tweaks. I didn't pay attention and confirmed.

Since then, I often hear some crackling / popping noises. For instance, this systematically occurs when I Alt/Tab between a running game and my desktop.

An obvious guess is that the damn VPN client messed up some sound settings, but I can't figure out what to do.

I've found a good deal of DPC latency workarounds around here which I tried in vain.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Answer:[Sound crackling ] VPN client messed up my sound settings

Try a system restore to before you installed the VPN client. (System Restore)

Then reinstall the VPN client and don't let it fiddle with the audio settings.

Hello!
I have bought a Satellite P200D-11L few weeks ago and when I got it sound was perfect.
There was good amount of bass and no distortion when I turned volume to 100%. Harman/kardon speakers are cool :) But now sound is distorted. This has started about week ago.

When I try to listen to the music (in windows media player and winamp, there's no difference) it is very distorted on laptop speakers, but on my headphones it is good. Also same song/songs are normal on my desktop PC.
I don't know what's problem, so please help. I've tried to restore windows with Toshiba product recovery disc, but same problem is still here. Could it be that speakers are in some way damaged, because on my headphones sound is OK? And yeah, I told you that on my headphones sound is OK, but it 's little different than it was when I got laptop ...

When I got laptop sound had more bass, but now when that problem occurred, sound also has less bass (bass is almost unnoticeable).

I am having distortion issues with my HP Pavilion ze4547wm laptop.

My audio from the laptop speakers seems to sound good, but when I plug the laptop into my home sound system, my music sounds very basse and distorted.

I checked the device manager, but the sound card( ALi Audio Wave ) seems to be working properly

The same with the codecs, or do I have too many? IMA ADPCM Audio Codec
Microsoft ADPCM Audio Codec
Microsoft CCITT G.711 Audio Codec
Microsoft GSM 6.10 Audio Codec
DSP Group TrueSpeech(TM) Audio Codec
msg723.acm
Windows Media Audio Codec
Sipro Lab Telecom Audio Codec

Thanks for your attention to this matter. I use this laptop at youth sporting events for sound effects and music.

In the last week, all sound on my laptop has started to crackle slightly. I changed headphones, but realized that thats not the problem. If i increase volume, the crackling gets worse, and distortion really sets in. Strange....only started happening last week. I have tried reinstalling my sound card driver, but no change there. Have looked around all my audio settings but cant find any clues. music etc is still listenable, but there is just a faint crackle constantly annoying me. and distortion if i turn the volume up louder.

Does this mean my sound card is wearing out?? or is it a physical prob inside?

my sound card is : Conexant AC link audio
i have windows xp home edition on a HP compaq nx4800

Hello,
I upgraded my Win XP to Win 7 like 1 month ago.
Downloaded all drivers (from their sites) updated them... then i open WMP 11 and start playing some music. After listening to that i heard some weird sound lag, I believe its called crackling. I searched on internet found some solutions, but none worked and none was for mine sound card.
This wasn't happening on Win XP.
Oh and if i have older version of driver it works way batter (only hear crackling when my cpu goes up to 1000MB (100%) ), but then my Microphone goes really quiet like I disabled microphone boost.

Hope you understand my problem.

Hi Everyone,

This issue has been going on for about a year now, both on 32 and 64 bit XP. My computer is around 3 years old, and no hardware has changed since then.

All my drivers are up-to-date, BIOS updates, software, patches, windows etc.

I have had lots of "theories" or "temp fixes" sent to me but in reality are not suitable.

When I play music (with any player) sometimes the sound crackles, to resolve the issue I have to pause then unpause the song and it stops for the duration of that song.

My Sound Card:

Sound issues with crackling and popping
A number of owners of X-Fi cards have come to experience what is known as a constant popping and crackling noise during use of the cards. Creative has attributed the case to be NVIDIA nForce motherboards, however many other users who do not use these motherboards continue to experience the sound issues. Creative has not provided a fix as of yet for this

Answer:Sound Blaster X-Fi [Sound issues crackling]

It's a bit hard to suggest without going through everything to see what you might have tried already (although I did have a look at your second link and a very quick look at the third). So please excuse if you have already tried the following, or if they seem too obvious (more hardware than software suggestions, as you have perhaps been trying mostly software, by the look of it).

It kinda sounds like something's deteriorating, and when you give it a moment to rest, it resets itself.

You haven't mentioned anything about your speakers (or headphones). Are they OK? Have you tried others, or tried yours in another computer? Can you try a USB speaker (if you haven't got that already)? How are the connections/cables/jacks?

Do you have an onboard audio driver you can try (ie take out the sound card)? Can you borrow a sound card to try?

Maybe it's a poor connection, including solder joint, in there somewhere. Hard to track down - have to try swapping things.

Is your problem confined to one medium (CD/DVD, stored audio files, downloaded music), or does it happen with all types?

Does it happen when you're eating Rice Bubbles? -D) (It's late, OK?)

Any possibility of interference from nearby electronics or electrical appliances?

Is your power supply unit OK? (Don't know why these last two items would be fixed by pausing the song, but I'm running low on ideas - maybe I'll stop here and let someone else have a go...)

My motherboard is a PCCHIPS M848LU V1.2 http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848lu.asp and the onboard sound is a C-Media AC97 (I don't know the exacts of it, but I think I can find out) It has up-to-date drivers

I just bought this comp from maincomp.com, its an AMD Athlon XP2600+, maxtor 30gig 7200rpm hd, 128mb ddr pc2100 ram (512 PC2700, whenever it gets here...) nvidia 128mb geforce4mx440, Windows XP Professional SP1a, 52x24x52x cd-rw..onboard NIC, onboard sound.

Anyway, whenever I play *most* (I say most because a few mp3s either from winamp radiostations or mp3s on my harddrive dont crack, but the sound quality is still alittle bad) it cracks some-what badly, some worse than others.. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and messing around with the settings, no help...everythings brand-new, so think it might be defective, or an hardware conflict? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Sound crackling, bad quality (onbored sound)

Well you could visit the PCCHIPS website and see if they have any updates for the Sound.

Also try another pair of speakers, could be bad speakers or a damaged cable/plug.

Thats a fairly nice machine, however you shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard - its one of the lowest end manufacturers of mobo's.

You may be better off by simple buying a PCI soundcard - I recommend a Creative Soundblaster - and disable the onboard sound. You'll get better quality sound and better performance in games.

Hello  I have been using my hp for over a year with little or no problems and this only happened 3 days ago. I came home from college and I booted up the laptop and there was no sound what so ever so I plugged in my headhones and the sound was distorted. So I thought It must be a Driver Issue so I updated the drivers and It fixed it or so I thought. The next day I came home and had the same problem but when I had the headphones in I could hear that the sound was going from distorted to normal rapidly so I just jiggled the headphone jack and It was fixed. Now today I came home as usual and same thing happens so I tried the jiggle trick from yesterday and nope it didnt work. But after a few mins It ficed itself  Now I havent got a clue whats causing this and Im getting frustrated. Can I do anything to resolve this   Does It matter that I have my headphones plugged on all the time or could it be the head phone jack that is causing issues

I've been researching arround how to fix this problem, but none of them work, Im not sure if its the jack or soundcard, I did the realtek diagnostics and every hardware are fine.. then speaker test.. it didnt do any sounds, I tried putting up the volume and it just makes this weird mosquito sound like when ever I test it, I also tried every jack at the back of my computer..
It was fine 3 days ago but I dont know what happened.. I also tested it with my headphones, and my headphones did the same, making some weird mosquito sound whenever I watch youtube vids or anything that requires sounds.. I tried my Dad's gaming headphone and it also does the same thing..

What could the problem be and how to I fix it? could it be the jack, sound card?

I really doubt its my speakers/headphones

could virus affect my sound?

Hi. I recently reformatted my Dell xps 400.. The only things I installed were :
1)Sound driver off of a disc,
2)Video Driver off of a disc,
3)Network PCI Adapter software.
In that order.

When I installed the sound driver, It did not work. It played system sounds, but they were very distorted and scratchy. When I'm doing nothing, I can hear scratching/crackling noises coming out of my headphones. I got tired of troubleshooting and left for a few hours. When I came back, my sound seemed to be working. There were still those crackling noises, but it was working. (I have this problem on both of my PC's. It seems that if I plug my headphones directly into the sound caard I get them, but if I plug them into the front of the computer, the scratching noieses are dramatically reduced. I had the headphones plugged directly into the soundcard at the time).

After 30 minutes of listening to the radio, it just stopped playing. Now I cannot hear any system sounds or anything; all I get are those scratching sounds.

What might be wrong?

PS: Here is Dell's driver webpage for the xps 400.I have not downloaded any of these yet. WHICH DRIVERS ARE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY? http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?

PSS: I don't have any antiviral software at the moment. Is it imperative that I get some as soon as possible?

Edit: I plugged the headphones into the back and I can hear sond. It is extremely distorted like it was originally.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Qosmio X505/500.

I keep having problems with sound.

The sound will become crackling and buzzy and then no sound at all although when I look at the speaker bar it is grrena nd moving.

I go to Control Panel and perform a SOund test. It shows the sound as moving and test results comes out ok but I dont hear anything.

Please help me.

Thank You

Answer:Crackling sound then no sound

Speakers are more than likely bad. If you do the sound test and don't hear anything + you hear odd sounds like crackling and buzzing thats going to be your sign. But, it wouldn't hurt to head over to Toshiba's website and pickup the latest sound drivers *just in case*.

I have a 6 month old Toshiba laptop. The other day I put in a dvd; it made a huge whirring noise (this might be totally irrelevant btw) and since then, when I play sound on my laptop, it crackles. I recorded myself on Audacity and that came out poor quality too. I'm not very good at describing it but obviously something has gone wrong. Would it be a damaged soundcard? It's bound to be under guarantee so that's not an issue but I would like to know what the problem is.

Hi guys! I have had this problem a lot of time ago... then I did a clean installation of win 10 and for a bit of time the problem seemed to be solved. My machine has been having a LOT of crackling sound in videos and music , especially on youtube since a couple of weeks and I don't know why. I did the update of bios yesterday and the crackling seemed to be even worse than before... what should I do? It's for sure a software problem. I have also tried the DPC latency checker and the back to the clean installation was working fine ; now it says I should have problems... before the value were always on the green level and now they are all yellow/red   https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8fd8FmXTIhVd2oxZG5tTmFzNmc/view?usp=sharing this is a link to the crackling I have. the sound is the same I hear, so it's not a problem of the mic I have used.  You can hear it very well at 16 seconds and so on....

Answer:Crackling sound y50 70

I hear a bit of static. Have you tried updating the Audio Drivers yet? If not, you should try doing that to see if that can fix the problem.

I'm been having trouble lately with my PC. Admittedly it is 5 years old, however I don't really have the money for a new one at the moment.

What is happening is that when I run a game that it has never had any problems with before often everything slows down and the sound starts to distort with a crackling noise. This has been most obvious in Race 07 when there is a full grid of cars around me. Everything practically stops at this point. Normally I would chalk it up to the computer not being powerful enough but it has never had this problem before in that game. It sometimes also happens when watching a HD Youtube video. Some less intensive games such as Super Meat Boy seem to be okay.

I have also had an occasional BSOD on startup, I took a photo which you can see here.

I have the system information from dxdiag here.

My guess is the graphics card is on it's way out but apart this everything else is fine so I am hoping there is a fix for this. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Crackling Sound and Lag

The BSOD is referencing nvlddmkm.dll - which is a nVidia driver file.

Go to Visual Computing Leadership from NVIDIA and update your GPU drivers for your card to see if that alleviates the issues.

So i finally got windows 64 bit running rather smoothly...
(I need 64bit for my computer specs)

unfortunately.. when I play music some of the songs crackle. (WMP)

I know this isnt interference, but seems to be a driver issue.. (so I think)
even tho the drivers are the latest version.

I plugged the speakers into the motherboard and they worked fine.

motherboard has got latest bios update (but that didnt fix the problem)

Ive looked for solutions, new drivers, fixes etc without any luck.

Ive googled this problem many times, but always find the wrong information or unanswered posts.

an example of the music crackling:

open WMP play a song, the song may crackle. if it does, press Pause, then click play, and the crackling will be gone.

Im totally baffled! and just dont know what to do. :confused

I have all the latest drivers installed on my P50, but I still hear pop/crackling sounds whenever some audio is playing, irrespective of the source. There's a thread here which addresses pop sounds when nothing is playing, so this is a different case. You might think this might me due to clipping as I'm overworking the onboard amplifiers, but this is not the case because even at very low volumes I still hear the pop/crackling sounds. It's the type of sound you hear from someone with a severe cold trying to clear his very clogged nostrils. It's really irritating having to hear it about 5 times every minute. The most weird part of it all is that if I reinstall the drivers, the pop/crackling sound disappears entirely. However, they return after 2 or more restarts. I only experience this issue when the onboard soundcard is being used because I don't notice the issue through my external dac + amp combo. Can someone help here ?

Question: Crackling Sound

Hi all,

Am new to the forums so please be patient with me!

My machine is fairly old but runs Windows 7 32Bit perfectly fine. In fact I was amazed to find all the hardware is picked up fine and runs nearly as fast as XP did.

Have been using it for some time without issues but recently the sound has become what I would describe as crackly and breaks up. It happens when Windows boots and it plays the little intro tune, then when I log on its fine. Then if I play a Quicktime movie trailer for instance it crackles or Youtube etc.

My MSI motherboad doesnt have any downloadable drivers for Windows 7 so its using whatever is the defaults.

I have tried changing the sound settings to different qualities and also reducing it from 5.1 sound to 2 channel stereo but to no avail.

To make sure its not a hardware fault I have reinstalled XP and also Ubuntu with no issues at all.

I then reinstalled Windows 7 and immediately the crackling returns which puzzles me as I ran Windows 7 for months without issues.

I have also tried changing the emulation in the BIOS from AC97 to Azalia but again to no avail.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Many Thanks

Paul.

Sounds like your on board sound isn't properly supported by windows 7. Did i read correctly that the crackling only happens on certain things? Also does your mouse lag or any applications lag when the crackling happens?

this is really weird after my pc is on for a while like after i turn it back on from standby. My sound will be crackling when opening a file, program, website anything that uses cpu usage. Its more of a crackling sound like if i was moving around the plugs or something from the speakers. I know its not my soundcard because i tried another sound card. I put both of them in the same cab and i got about the same problem. After i restart my computer it seems to go away but i want to know whats the problem here.

When I listen to music using Winamp or Windows Media Player (CD and MP3) after a while it gets crackly and sounds funny. If I stop it then play it again its fine. Its really annoying to have to stop and start songs all the time. Is there a way to fix this?

Answer:Crackling Sound

how much ram does your pc have? if it's less than 256 on xp then that can cause this type of problem. if this is the case then you can go to www.blackviper.com and go through his tutorial on xp and that will help free up the ram. Also download latest drivers for your sound device. if you have onboard sound the drivers will be located on the manufactures site for the mainboard or pc if you have a namebrand ie dell, hp. If you installed a soundcard then you'll have to go to the soundcard manufacturer's site to get the latest set of drivers. you probably know where to find your driver's but I add this info just in case you do not.

Question: Sound crackling

Hi, A few days ago the sound on my Acer Aspire V3 - 772G, about 1 year old, started crackling and getting distorted. It doesn't matter if I'm using the laptop's speakers or my headphones, it's the same crackling noise. The noise doesn't start right away and isn't constant. This is however very annoying and frustrating. I did reinstall the audio driver but it made no difference.  I'm using Windows 8 if that matters. I'm really no good with technical stuff, please, I'd really really love to get some help here.

So... My sound has been crackling/popping in alot of games and not only , also for mumble and this kind of stuff, same with Skype.

I have read many forums about this but couldnt find solution , i have heard that "outdated drivers" might be the problem... but the thing is i dont know what sound card i have :\

I'm using Windows XP
Heres what i have in my "Device manager - Sound , video and game controllers"
- Audio Codecs
-Legacy Audio Drivers
-Legacy Video Capture Drivers
-Media Control Devices
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-VIA High Definition Audio
-Video Codes

And it happens even in games and things that used to sound fine , it all started happening after formating pc? I think

Please , help! Sorry if i didnt provide enghout info , please ask if u have any questions about my pc :\ and pardon my bad english once again

Answer:Sound crackling?

-NVIDIA High Definition Audio < are most likely the video card HDMI port audio drivers

-VIA High Definition Audio < should be a motherboard audio chipset and most likely the default audio chipset.

What is the brand and model of the computer? Or the brand and model of the motherboard if it's homebuilt?

Question: Sound crackling...

So here is my problem,

I just got a new Win XP Media Center PC with 2 gigs RAM, 360 GB HDD, ATI Radeon video card etc.. I usually don't have many app's open at a time, but when I began playing the Sims I started using more RAM. The Sims 2 takes up about 550 MB of my PC's RAM. The sound on the game's sound crackles when the game is loading or if I am zooming in/out, even when I am clicking on items and giving commands. I tried EA tech support, but I then realized that the same sound crackling happens when I have many app's open using over 600 MB of memory.

I am using a Plantronics Gamecom Pro headset (USB). I tested the sound using a pair of stereo phone jack headphones, but the same crackling still happened.

What could be the problem? I checked all my sound codecs and everything seems to be working normally there.

Thanks everyone!
-Pat

Question: Sound crackling

Hi everyone,

For the past few months I've had a problem on my desktop PC, where for seemingly no reason after a few hours of being switched on, the sound will start crackling.

I'm using windows 7 service pack 1 as my OS, and at first i thought the problem was with windows but now I'm not so sure, as the crackling will also happen on my VM using win 7 pro, and also Ubuntu (the only 2 OS installed on my VM).although they are set to use the host audio.

I then began thinking it must be my speakers so i checked the connections, which seemed fine and them plugged in some headphones to listen for the crackling through them, and found the crackling was also happening throught the headphones so this must discount it being a problem with the speakers.

The crackling sound can best be described as like the sound of when one plays an LP and it kind of crackles at the start. It can get worse than that at times though where it will pop and can distort the music.

The crackling happens when i play youtube video's or if i listen to internet radio, or use Winamp or Windows media player, and sometimes even with windows system sounds such as when you click to go into a folder.

I'm using Realtek high definition audio and recently updated the drivers hoping this would fix it, to no avail.

So basically guys, i have no idea where to go from here, and was hoping people with far more knowledge than me could help me out, if you can I'd be eternally gratef... Read more

Question: Sound Crackling.

Hello all,
I have a refurbished Toshiba Satellite L650D laptop that I got exactly a year ago. Lately I've been having a problem where the sound goes crackly and even distorted when playing, and up until today I thought it was just me playing sounds too early because it would always go away a few minutes after start up.

Today it stayed around for 10 minutes, before I rebooted. After that it seemed normal at first, even the startup sound wasn't distorted, but about an hour later there is still at last some crackling in my music. It doesn't just happen with window's media player, but youtube as well and it first started to show up around october when I played Skyrim (I just blamed how much memory the game takes up).

I've tried disabling the enhancements (which seemed to be the solution for most others with this problem), I have done virus scans, I have even used the task manager to end some non essential processes that took up memory.

I have noticed in my searches that most reporting similar problems found it got WORSE the longer the computer was on, while in my case it's usually at its worst around startup.

Hi jpg, Welcome to the Forum.

It might be best if you visit your motherboard manufacturers website to download the drivers. They might not be the newest but could be specialized for your particular board.

This isn't the first time it has happened. My computer is about a year and a half old. For the whole time I've had this computer (Averatec laptop) it has always had okay sound, as long as I didn't go into Standby. If I ever went into standby then brought my computer back out of it, the sound would become distorted. The next time I would restart or turn the computer off, then brought it back on, the sound would be okay.

Well today, when I got home, I turned on the computer as usual. I was browsing the web and noticed the little click sound that occurs when I click on links sounded funny. I figured I knew what it was so I went to listen to a song, and it was distorted just like when I go into and come out of standby.

The warranty is expired (was a year) and I don't think Averatec will help me any longer. Has this happened to anybody else? What can I do?

I think my sound driver is a Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver. If you need any other information from me please tell me what it is and where on my computer I can find it. Also, if anybody can show me a site where I could host a .wav file then I could record the sound and upload it for others to hear.

Thanks so much in advance for any help, and if I posted this in the wrong forum then please move it.

I have a Compaq Microsoft Media Center Edition computer running windows XP. Lately not only has my computer been booting up slowly and running slowly, the sound on my computer has been distorted and slow. It happens when I play anything that is on line (video, sound clips) and sometimes when I play iTunes (usually after the computer has been on for a while).
In attempting to fix the problem I have opened up all sound drives to check that they are on the correct mode. I have attempted to update the drivers (they were up to date), so then I uninstalled the Realtec AC'97 Audio driver. No progress after doing all these things.

Not sure if this is the right place to be putting this thread but i am gonna go ahead and give it a shot and see if anyone can help me. For several months my sound has sometimes just gone completely away and will come back after awhile for no apparant reason. It did this every few weeks or so at first...now it goes away more often out of no where and when it does work, it sounds distorted or just not right. Like if I am listening to a song the instruments will play clear but the person singing will sound far away. Or it is just plain distorted sounding. I have tried doing the help and support thing on the computer and that was no help, I did everything they told me to check. It isn't the speakers or anything like that either. I also updated the drivers. Could it be that I need a new sound card or something, I don't really know much about that kind of thing, if things like that need to be replaced sometimes. I could do it myself I am sure if I knew that is what was wrong with it. Any suggestions?
I have windows XP.

Question: Sound is distorted

I have a problem with viewing AVI's and listening to my cd's and MP3's. Sometimes the audio is fine, but other times the audio is slow and distorted. This even happens with windows default start up and shut down sounds sometimes. Under the device manager there is a yellow flag that says multimedia audio controller. The drivers aren't installed. I don't know how this could be, I have the cd's for my sound card, and it doesn't find what it's looking for when I pop the cd in and search for them. I have an M audio Firewire 410 sound card, and Since it says Multimedia audio controller, I figure I better give you my video card info as well. It's an ATI all in wonder 9600 XT. This may, or may not be what's causing the distortion sounds, but I don't think it would hurt to try this first. My drivers for these two items are up to date, and I do windows updates frequently. I sincerely doubt that this sound is caused by any type of virus or spyware, as I scan my pc at least once a week with the most updated versions of Norton, Spybot, adaware, and Ccleaner. Any help would be most appreciated. thanks guys.

Question: Distorted sound

I use the E-MU soundcard and sound system. I recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and now my sound card sometimes works OK and sometimes gives very badly distorted sound. If I go to Control Panel > Systems and Security > Troubleshoot Common Computer Problems > Run programs made for previous versions of Windows, it fixes the problem. But as soon as I open Cubase or open Premiere Pro the sound goes distorted again. I tried updating the driver and that cured it, but again opening Cubase makes it bad again. What is going on?

Answer:Distorted sound

May be time for an upgrade of the recording interface unit. I see posts of problems with old XP hardware on the recording forums I visit. Vista/Win7/Win8 handle some audio functions differently than XP and some functions that were available on XP are no longer there.

I have a recording studio with Sonar X3 and a USB connected Roland Octa-Capture for recording interface.

hello
there seems to be some problem with the mp3 files.whenever a mp3 file is played with winamp the sound seems to be distorted.when i play the audio with media player classic ,windows media player it seems to be okay.but when i transfer it into my portable mp3 player the the sound remains distorted.
i thought that problem was due to a virus or spyware and posted in the "am i infected forum".boopme helped me out with it only to find my system to be free from such things.hence he advised me to post in this forum .i tried to repair them with a software from the net presuming them to be corrupted the but to no use.not only mp3 but all the audio files have been corrupted.the latest sound files that i have downloaded recently from the net seem to be okay.
i have many songs on my pc and i don't want to lose them.
hope some on would respond soon

thank you

Answer:Distorted Sound From Mp3

I have the same problem, some of my mp3's seem to be corrupt they play distorted, skip, and seem to be playing fast. I have no idea how to fix this if it is possible, but re-downloading songs is a solution as tedious as it might be.

Hi,

I have got a problem with the sound on my Satellite M30-604. If for instant I play a cd or an mp3 (doesn?t matter with what program), the sound is distorted. It sounds a bit like back in the old days when my taperecorder got jammed. After a while the sound disappears completely and I get ?bad sound driver? errors. When I restart the notebook, the sound again works fine for a while, but then the problem repeats itself. This temporary ?regeneration? only happens when I restart and does happen when I put the notebook in sleeping mode or standby mode for a while. The sounddriver in my notebook is the SigmaTel C-Major Audio version 6.14.1.3835, it should be the latest version. Can anybody help me with this problem? At the moment I am not even shure whether it is a hardware or a software problem. Thanks,

Steve

Answer:Distorted sound on M30-604

Hi Steve

I hope that there is some solution that will help you. Did you already try to make BIOS update? It will be interesting to know what you mean exactly under ?distorted sound?. A friend of mine had a similar problem and the cause for that was modem. Sounds stupid but everything is possible.

Like I said if the sound is slowed it can be some hardware mailfunction.

Question: Distorted Sound?

Hey, i'm using windows xp service pack 2 and something odd has happened very recently...

I restarted my computer, about 2 hours ago, and the sound was very distorted... Sounds inverted, volume low, metallic and just plain wierd... I noticed by D drive (Windows drive) was only 120mb's left on it and figured that might be a problem so i deleted random folders i had lying around (of back up jpg's, bmp's and vids i stored) and it went back up to 624mb's. I restarted my computer, hopefully to restore it, and it hasn't gotten fixed...

I use a USB Headset Logitech 350 Model and i have tried connecting it into each of my 4 USB ports along with inspecting the wire and there isn't even a twist or bend on any of the wires. The physical condition is really good (Parts of it are still in it's protective plastic without holes), so i doubt it is because of ware & tare or physical abuse... It sprung out of no where..... Any Ideas?

Answer:Distorted Sound?

Bump, if anyone can help that would be great... I really wanna listen to songs ><.

Question: Distorted Sound

There is a distortion in the sound coming from my speakers. I have tested the speakers on another PC and they are OK.I thought it may be the sound chips on the motherboard but I have disabled them and installed a PCI sound card but the distortion is still there.I have updated all drivers using Driver Agent but with no success. Searching the internet has suggested corrupt windows sound files.Would it be safe to copy the sound files from my laptop to my desktop as both machines are running XP with SP2.I need to investgate this before looking any further.

Answer:Distorted Sound

try running sfc /scannow it should clear up dodgy files.

Question: Distorted Sound

I'm getting distorted sound on a lot of the games on my PC, but not all of them.E.gCommand and Conquer 3 - distortedCommand and Conquer 2 - okNeverwinter Nights - distortedKnights of the Old Republic - okNow my sound is fairly old - a creative 5.1 which I've had for around 10 years, but most people I speak to don't think that it could be the sound card given that it only affects some games and it is at least playing sound.Does anyone have any suggestions? Would a new sound card help or just be a complete waste of money doing nothing to help the issue.Cheers

Answer:Distorted Sound

Do any of the games use so-called 3D enhancement - EAX for Creative cards, A3D was another kind if I recall. If they do, try disabling it.

Answer:dvd distorted sound

Which version of Windows? I have a similar problem with a DVD drive in Windows 98. However, in the same PC I have another drive with Windows ME - when I boot into this the sound is OK. Tried several tricks but sound still distorted in 98. I'd guess it would be fine with XP too. Something to do with codecs maybe?

Do you have windows restore to the point where you didn't install the update then test it if it still distorted then it's most likely going bad. Sincerely Kenneth

Have you checked the configuration in Sounds and Audio Devices from Control Panel? You may need, as well, to disable the monitor sound. Also, in Windows Media Player, from Tools>Options>Devices>highlight your drive(s)>Properties>Audio tab and tick Digital Playback.

Question: Distorted sound

hey you all!

i have been getting this annoying problem whenever it comes to games, whether it's during installing or actual gameplay. The sound starts out fine and soon gets all distorted. I solved this sound problem during installing by switching from my cd-rom drive to my cd writer drive.

but the distorted sound thingy reoccurs during gameplay after awhile (this was during Halo: Combat Evolved), exiting to the main menu and resuming the game doesn't cure it. so i had to exit the game and restart it only to go through the same thing again.

what could it be? i've checked the sound settings in the control panel, looks alright. same thing at the device manager.

for speaker setting, i chose surround speakers since i have a 2.1 system (if that's what you call two satellite speakers and a subwoofer), there was a selection for 5.1, but obviously i can't choose that, or can i?

these are my specs:

WinXP SP2
Athlon XP 2200+
MSI K7N2 Delta-L Motherboard with onboard sound (Realtek ALC650 6-channel audio)
256 DDR

what can i do about this?

Double posting a question in multiple forums is both poor net etiquette and confuses things by scattering the information. See your thread in Hardware, which is the proper forum for this question.
