Preferred Solution: i was lost my pics and other important data. how can i recov...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I recently re-formatted my PC and everything that I wanted to keep which wasn't a lot a burned onto a single DVD. Even though it wasn't a lot it was quite important.

The software told me the data had burned correctly and everything was hunky dory but I stupidly didn't check to make sure.

Now I've re-formatted my PC I go into my computer and select the drive and one folder is in there but no sub-folders with my files. If i right click on the Drive in My computer it says it's full with 3.8GB of stuff yet when I right click on the single folder in there it says no folders or files in there.

I don't know why it's doing this but it's really frustrating as some treasured photo's are on there and important work files

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it

Thank You

Answer:DVD Problem - Important Data Lost

You might try a program like " Isobuster" to retrieve your data. If the data was actually written to the disk you should be able to see it.

Hi
I have lost very important data after doing a re-install of win xp pro serv pack 2 (new legit copy) over an unverified xp pro serv pack 2.
First I tried a repair with the new product key, got to the welcome screen and was asked to log in to my account after doing that it said "you are already logged in, then a sreen came on saying register my copy of windows
YES/NO on yes or no it logged off and went back to the log on screen, basicaly round in circles, then a friend advised to do a complete re-install over my origional O/S leaving files & folders intact, I did but when it came to the drive/directory to install the default was c:/windows highlited and my friend said to alter it to WINNT. Since then every application wont run asking to re-install applications files are missing, drivers are missing and my cd-drive wont open. Saved registration keys are in Incredimail which I cannot find, all my contacts are missing.
Please help I feel as if my right arm has been cut off.
I dont Know how much has been lost yet as I cant get into any applications.
Thanks for reading hope, you can help.

Dell Dimension 3000, 768 mb ram, cd RW, Nvida graphics with 128 mb on board ram (3 years old).

Answer:lost important data after Re-install xp pro

I don't want to say your friend gave you bad advice, but reinstalling Windows that way causes problems as you are now finding out. Basically, I believe you are probably going to have to reinstall all your applications and drivers. You may be able to reinstall many of the drivers by pointing the wizard to c:\windows\system32 but you are probably better off just using your Dell Resource CD if you still have it.

You can open Outlook just fine still?

Hi Everyone,

Today was a bad day for me as i lost every single file in my Hp laptop. I think it is all my mistake. let me explain what happend.

My laptop have 500GB HD. Laptop came up with 456GB of "C" Drive partition. Other 3 paritions were HP_Tools, Recovery and System.

"C" drive was half full when i decided to divide it into more drives to save important data from "C" to another drive. After searching on internet i came to know that windows 7 has a limit of 4 parititons. then i started searching for a quick solution to avoid full new windows installation. I installed a Mini Tool Parition manager and Set the "C" drive as Logical and shrinked more drives from C. Computer restarted Partition manager takes 10 minutes to do everything and then WIndows started and all was ok. But I wanted to have one more 100 gb partition from "C". I did it again using Parition manager and computer started all stuff was going well. Parition manager finshed everything and when computer restart nothing works. Every time computer restart from windows 7 Logo. I was sure that something goes wrong. i tried to repair it but repair takes 30 minutes and solved nothing for me. i canceled repair and try to install fresh windows 7. when i was selecting the "C" disk to install windows in it. An error appeas saying "windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installatio... Read more

If you ran clean ALL, you are SOL.

Perhaps you can ask the NSA for their backup copy.

Too late this time, but in future, good idea to make an image backup every so often.

This is great free program which you can use to prevent getting in trouble in future:

Hi,
While re-installing Windows 10 on my Samsung ativ book 9 (15" core i7), I had two partitions (256 gb ssd) half capacity each one, one holds the os, and the other my data.
when selecting the partition where to install windows 10, it tolds me that I cannot so i googled it, i figured out that i have to clean the partition and then convert it to gpt using diskpart.
so i did but instead of cleaning the system partition it deleted all the disk data in a second.
I have now one unallocated partition (256 gb), i created 3 partition afterwars, 500mb efi, primary for os, and third for my data. windows 10 installated successfully, but my data all gone.
I tried every single data recovery app, but all of them just recover some ****ty folders that doesn't have any value like desktop.ini. (by the way, i tried in the days after this data earthquake not to have new data to avoid overwriting the old precious data)
any help to undo clean command or anything would be amazingly appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:Very Important data lost while installing windows 10 using diskpart clean partition, how can I get it back?

Unfortunately its your fault since you did not understand diskpart completely before using it. When using diskpart you might have selected the entire disk for the format rather than just the partition. There is no way your data can now be recovered.

Recovering deleted items may or may not be successful since the drive space the items were using becomes available for use again after the deletion. There are third party programs that do work to recover items of importance if they are there and here is one I refer to people to try. The product is free to try through a download and of course you will have to pay for it if you want to keep it beyond its trial period.
http://www.softdownloads.com/rognerud/

The product has been successful for many in the past so good luck and let us know the outcome.

Just want to know what would you do if you lose your important data. For example, delete your cherished photos by accident; lose your doc files which contain your weeks' hard work due to formatted or damaged hard drive. Of course, I hope everyone here never have such bad luck. Just a poll. BTW, do remember backup your data regularly.

A. Feel sad, but do nothing.
B. Tell a friend about your bad luck. Then you feel better
C. Ask someone who is good at computer for help.
D. Go to an IT forum to post your problem, like techguy
E. Search Internet to find similar situation & solution
F. Go to manual data recovery service center.

You may have other answers.

I went to access important files today for my University course and they have disappeared. Recently i had a problem with a "virus" which was self replicating and McAfee Security Centre 2007 kept catching it, but after 2 full scans no viruses were found.

Here is a link to the virus McAfee found repeatedly as it self-replicated: http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/defau...virus_k=141178
Attached is a screenshot showing the first report of the virus.

Also the virus alerts came completely out of no-where, at the time i wasn't even using the computer it was just connected to the University network, and i never get viruses because i scan files before using them and am generally cautious.

Files are missing in some areas, but not others. Half of my installers are also missing, which is a pain. I tried to use "eDATA Unerase", which i found on download.com, but i only recovered a few files and those are corrupted and do not open.

I have a system restore point at the end of January, but i am unsure whether restoring would bring back the files. One thing i have not tried is restarting the PC, but i am unable to do that at the moment due to a large file download.

What i need to know is:
1. Why and where did the files go?
2. Am i at risk for more missing files?
3. How can i get them back for free?

Thanks for any help, Jamie.

Please help

Answer:Lost important photo

As long as you pressed "save", you should still have the photo, only it will probably be named "untitled". Not necessarily though. I would just browse each and every folder, starting with your default folders where files are saved.

Hi, new to the site, hoping someone can help me. My sister's computer crashed, and I have been working on it. She wasn't concerned about losing much, except for her baby's pictures and some text files. Everything else could be replaced. So, I slaved her hard drive to mine and copied all of the pictures into a folder on my desktop. No problem.
Today, when I was working on my computer, my system froze up and rebooted itself. When it was back on, ALL of the files in my folders on my desktop were GONE. The folders were still there, but the pictures and music files were missing. Including my sister's pictures. Also, the login screen turned into a little blue Windows XP box, nobody else's login name was there. All the programs on my startup screen were there, but when I hovered my mouse over them it said "empty" ???
I fixed the logon screen, and uninstalled/reinstalled the programs I wanted to keep and got rid of the rest (computer needed a thorough cleaning anyway). I can handle all that hassle. What I cannot handle is the loss of those baby pictures. If I don't get them back, my sister will never talk to me again, or at least make me suffer horribly.
I tried restoring, no change, and I tried file recovery programs, also no luck (on both my hard drive and my sister's). I cannot understand where those files went. I can't see them just up and disappearing, but I have had no luck searching for them.

Hey guys, first post here!

I'm at wits end with customer service and was wondering if someone could help me out with my problem. This morning I was editing a screenplay on my laptop (Windows 7) with the program Final Draft; I'd printed the document off a few times as PDFs, but when I went to do it a third or fourth time, the printer boxes started freezing. Then the program shut down and now I can't get back in the file. I can load all of my other scripts fine except this one. When I try loading it, I get the message "This file is not supported by this version of Final Draft"... but I know it is. I then noticed that the file itself is 0.0KB -- Did the file just erase itself? Is there anyway to get it back?? In a desperate attempt, I tried system restore but, well, nothing. Please help me out -- I'd greatly appreciate it!!

Answer:Lost Important File

The first place to look is in the recycle bin.
I don't expect it to be there but do it just in case to be sure it isn't before it possibly gets emptied.

The next thing I would look at is the directory where the others are stored and see if a minor name change may have occurred or possibly a duplicate back up.
I have never used Final Draft so I don't know if that is possible.

Since you mentioned customer service are you possibly on a network?
Possibly look in the area of the network that you were connected to.

I would like to tell you to run system restore to a day or so ago but you have done that.
Possibly set it back further?

The only other thing I can think of offhand would be to run chkdsk /r and see if it will
find some corruption and fix it.

Wow, major problem using Outlook Express.

I am on a network at work.

This morning I was expecting important emails.

I pulled up outlook express and it said" 10 new messages"

I was in the middle of reading #1 when the computer froze.

I had to restart.

When I brought Outlook Express up again, the 9 messages I had not read yet were not there. Because it pulled them from the server, they arent there either.

Is there any way of getting them? Or am I up the creek with no proverbial paddle?

Answer:important LOST emails!!!!

Hiya

If it was on a network at work, you maybe lucky in the fact that the IT department may have a backup. However, if they wern't downloaded from the server, then you may have lost them.

Could you not email the persons that sent you the original email to explain the situation?

The last time I posted was requesting help with a new rebuild on my computer. Installed a new motherboard, processor, etc. Unfortunately, my computer guy seems to have lost all the info I wanted to save. 4 years of tax files for clients etc.

The question I have is there anyway that info can be retrieved maybe thru a back door. The hard drive was accidentally formatted and this info was lost. The thing is that not all the info was lost just my Documents.

I will get you all necessary information specs if you thing we can retrieve the information.

If it lost forever I will be sad, but I will deal with it.

My first post was under conundrum all info about my computer will be under that post.

Thank you for any help.

Answer:Help Lost Important Info

If it was just formatted, you may be able to retreive the data using GetDataBack or R-Studio. If a new operating system was installed or any new files added after the format, it will be much more difficult

How important is it when I burn a DVD, that I select data verification? I thought the hardware already does that to some degree. Is this just peace of mind then, or is there real merit in validating what you think you just burned? It adds about 50% to the time it takes to burn the DVD, so it's not trivial.

My PC as of late has been running awful. When I have a game running it'll run fine, however it's navigating the PC when say in a browser, or just copying files, or anything really outside running a game that is running horrible. I ran malwarebytes and did a scan and corrected, same with Housecall, was gonna do a CCleaner but I'm at the point where I'm fed up and just want it running smoothly. When I'm in firefox if I do something as simple as ctrl D to bookmark a page everything freezes. So I'm ready for a fresh start.

I'm going to find my Windows 7 disc after work and reformat. However I would like to backup important info. If I clone hdd to hdd it'll save everything and make the reformat pointless as far as I know. So that's not an option. I know how to copy/paste my picture files. That's easy.

How would I go about saving my steam game files so that my in game progress is erased? I have a 160gb internal hdd installed, I'm using a 1tb internal for os and everything. So I can use the 160. I also have an external 160gb hdd I can use.

I started to clone the hdd and quickly realized that's not my course of action. So after backing up my browser bookmarks, and pictures, how do I save all my steam game files? Don't think i"m worried about losing any other data besides that.

I have a problem with my Satellite 1100 laptop. The windows OS has somehow become corrupted and now won't start up. I have tried the usual 'use last good config' and start in 'safe mode' but neither of these work.

Is there a way using the product recovery CD to fix this without losing important documents and photos?

Any help appreciated.

Answer:Can I fix OS using recovery CD without loosing important data?

Hello

Using delivered recovery CD you can install OS again. There is no option for any kind of ?OS repair?. I do not know how is your HDD configured but if you have 2 partitions and all your important data are saved on the second one you can install OS on the first partition using ?Expert mode?.

At the moment you can try to obtain Microsoft installations CD and try to repair preinstalled OS.

Hello good people,

Please help me rescue data from a CD-RW that WinXPProSP2 cannot access.

On one CD-RW it reports being unable to copy data due to CRC error.
On second one, it cannot read disc at all, reports corrupted or incompatible disc.

There is no obvious physical damage on the discs.

Is there a proven software that can access data on CD and bypass this?

Alternatively, is there a program that can clone an image from such a CD (I'd like to send them to professional data recovery service, but I'd like to back them up first).

Already attempted:
Through cleaning of the discs
Trying in other computers
Several free/demo recovery programs from the web, all working under WinXP

Many thanks

hi guys, ive just registered

...actually its urgent. Something very weird happened today with one of my Word file.

*i have Vista premium on a HP Laptop AMD Turion 64x2 *
*ive been using my laptop for 10 months *
*im not used to making system restore or making a recovery disk*

I use this file everyday and store important details and infos to keep an update.
BUt when i went to open my file on Document, it wasnt there ( i couldnt see it).
So i decided to search it and it appeared on the list ( it was in Document). But something was modified and it said
" your file has been changed or moved so this shortcut may not work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut ?"

then i was like ... shortcut? Its not a shortcut, the main file is in Document and i never made any shortcut for this file.

afterwards, i tried desperately to search for my file and i remember that i havnt moved it or changed its name so...maybe a virus is involved.

Now, i cant even find it on "search". Its not even there anymore. Im starting to worry alot , i think someone hacked in my computer or something.

Can anyone help me or just tell me if something like this happened to any of you ?

I didnt delete this file and its not in my recycle bin. But its not found anywhere else. Its like the file never existed

please help

Someone ran into my USB while it was connected to my laptop and it has broken. As you can probably guess from the title, it has something very important on it which, to make matters worse, is due tomorrow. The connecting place has detached from the memory part but nothing appears to be broken, I have tried putting it back together, but it doesn't seem to be working. What do I do??

Answer:USB is broken. Important files may be lost.

There is nothing you can do, unless you are handy with a precision electronic soldering gun.
You may be able to get the stem fixed if you take it to a computer repair shop, but don't hold out too much hope.

Hi All,

My neighbour typed up a Word document that was the minutes for an important meeting. The meeting lasted 3 hours, hence the importance.

The meeting was held at her local primary school so she was not connected to the internet at the time of clicking on the SAVE icon.
In a perfect world, the document would be saved and uploaded to SkyDrive when next connected to the internet.
The document has vanished :confused When she turned her computer on this morning she did notice some sort of error message but did not write it down :crybaby
It said something about a server, apparently. But as we know what someone tells us is the problem, rarely is!

Does anyone know how to recover the document? She is using Windows 8.
I have tried searching the C drive for the file name but nothing.
I have opened SkyDrive and looked in recent documents, not there. I also tried logging on to SkyDrive through www.skydrive.com rather than accessing it through the START menu for Windows 8.

Any suggestions? The research I have done tells me the document has gone.:cry:cry:cry

Thanks for reading.

Answer:SkyDrive - Lost Important Document

It should be in her local Skydrive folder on the computer, under My Documents > Sky Drive >Documents. Even if she used the Metro icon for Skydrive, it should be in the same User folder under the Start Menu.

I use Start8, so it gives me the original XP/Vista/7 menu. If you do Windows key + X, it will bring up a context menu in the desktop, that will allow you to do a Search or bring up file explorer.

Personally I would still save files to a thumb drive or on the local My documents folder, then have Skydrive, Google docs, Owncloud, Box.com, etc. set to automatically sync that folder, which it should be setup to do already.

The file is probably out in her My Documents folder, so she is going to have to look in the "Recent Documents" side of Word and see if it shows up in there, then see if it will open.

Not sure if this is the right section to post but I'm in need of some help.

I was tidying up the PC a little & not thinking I sent all of my pics to the CD drive to copy & then realised that I have way to much to fit on a CD.

I then proceeded to make a data DVD instead but deleted the pics folder from the CD drive & wasn't until I just looked that all my pics that they have disappeared.

It shows the folders & also the size of the folder is the same but when I click on the pics they are not there! The data disc is the same showing the folders but no pics when you go into them.

Since doing that I have used ccleaner & emptied the recycle bin :cry

I am new to the board and have a problem. In the past I tried to transfer pictures that I took from a digital camera and transferred to my C drive onto a CD-R. I did this in windows explorer by just highlighting the photo & dragging it to the CD-R. When I got a new computer I again tried this & when I was complete I got a message saying that I needed to "write" these to the CD to complete the process. I am assuming that since I never got that message before on my old computer that everything was OK, but sure enough when I try the other discs they are not able to be read. I get a message asking to insert a disc in my CD drive even though I have a disk in there with data on it. Is there a recovery software I can use or is everything lost?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey there
Have you done an upgrade from a previous version of windows?
If so you will find a folder on your C:\ drive called 'Windows.old' if you upgraded, all of your files will be there

Question: I've lost my pics

Help please....a couple of days ago I was doing some sorting of my photos on PICASA...... when I came to delete a test folder of about 6 pics I lost nearly ALL my pictures, I expected them to be in the recycling bin but ....no. Can files like photos just dissappear into nothing or are they hiding somewhere on my PC. I think it might have happened because the laptop I was using has a habit of 'clicking' on anything that the curser might cross when I'm moving it. It's a Dell laptop with Vista home brew.
B.J.

Answer:I've lost my pics

Your pics should still be lurking ... run this direct download link text to recover them. First create a New Folder on your desktop, then before starting the program browse to that folder as the Destination from within the program. Don't be surprised when the program finds possibly thousands of images, it may 'pick-up' all the little Icon images within your computer too, these can easily be deleted from the New Folder without any harm being done. I have used this program many times, mostly when helping friends find their lost pics on their PCs and Camera Cards.

Question: I lost all my pics

Hi guys

i was backing up all my pics

I had all of them in one folder on my desktop and then I dragged this folder into my c drive and it just vanished

I have search for the folder name the folders inside and jpegs and mp4s and i cant find any of them anywhere

can someone please help

Answer:I lost all my pics

Dragging them from your desktop to C is NOT backing them up, don`t worry, unless you deleted them you just dropped them someplace close to the C folder, just start opening them, you`ll find`em

This is why methodically copying and pasting then verifying is better. IMO

Dragging and dropping can result in accidents, like you had.

I had recieved a virus and did a system recovery to my PC everything worked out ok but when I tried using my kodak easy share software there was problems and since I couldnt seem to find the disk I just downloaded the new one of the internet. Now the problem is that I can see my pics there but when I click on them it tells me the file exists but may be damaged, is there anyone out here that could help my out with this, I really dont want to lose all those pics, and I know I did learn my lesson about backing things up!

Thanks

Answer:lost pics.... please help if you can!

Try to open the pictures with another software program, and save the picture to your hard drive. I would try Picasa http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4476.html it's free, it will search, locate and index every image on your system.

This is a follow up question from my last successfully answered question.
My Tecra 60GB HDD has stopped working and I would like to retrieve a few days of emails etc if possible.
The Tecra defaults to the Safe Mode options when started and returns via a BSOD no matter which safe mode option is taken.

I have:
checked in BIOS - it is seen as there.
ran SEATOOLs for Dos and it says there is a fault on the short and long tests
connected the HDD via an enclosure and USB to my other PC and eventually it say that there is an In/OUT error.
Ran CHKDSK via my XP CD and after 26% it says there are one or more unrecoverable errors.

Also I have tried an old HDD which works normally in the Tecra.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Wagga

Answer:Tecra HDD crash - how to retrieve some important data?

>connected the HDD via an enclosure and USB to my other PC and eventually it say that there is an In/OUT error.

Does this mean that you are not able to get access to the HDD even using an external USB case?
It looks like the HDD is corrupt and in most cases the data could not be recovered on usual way.
Of course there are different Data recovery services but they charge between ?500 and ?1000 to attempt to salvage data from either logical or mechanical disasters.

There are also different tools which could be helpful like RecoverMyFiles from GetData, Ontrack EasyRecovery DataRecovery or Prosoft's Data Rescue II but you have to pay for all these professional applications?

Here is also a nice youtube video:

Evening all!

I've recently become tired of having all my videos, music, software installers, and other such things that are used by several PCs in the house scattered all over those PCs, taking up disk space and ending up being difficult to find when I need them.

What I want to do, is take an old PC I'm not using (the less money I spend the better), and set it up to host all of this stuff on a network drive.

Now I've done a little looking around on the net, and I've come across a little something called RAID. I like the idea of having some sort of failsafe should one of the drives die, because that PC will basically be the only copy of many things I've spent a few years accumulating lol. I've also read the Techguy "Guide for installing and configuring Raid" But there's still plenty of questions, and I'll never get a certain answer until I actually ask someone. Now, let's see....

I'll be using 4x 500GB drives in this system (follow link for Everest report).

Should I even look at RAID, or should I just try to keep the files on the first 1TB backed up nicely on the second 1TB? Of course, I would be tempted to use the "extra space", and keeping a constant backup would probably become annoying...

What's the best RAID level for me? From what I can tell, RAID-1 basically takes for example two drives, and uses one as a copy of the other, so that if something/one of the drives is lost, the data is not. ... Read more

I have a usb jump drive that I was using in fixing a computer. I copied very important data to the drive and then went on to reformat and install windows.

In the process of setting up the partitions of the hard drive I inadvertently deleted the partition on my jump drive.

I need to get this databack. The only program that seems to work is "Data Recovery Wizard" Unfortunatly it costs 70 dollars to save the files it recovers. I dont have this kind of money.

I need this data if it is at all possible to recover I would like to get it right away. ASAP

Hi.
I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this, if not let me know.

The Problem: I accidentally deleted some important data from a hard drive. I desperately want to rescue at least some of it. It is a folder containing a large number of digital photos.

This is what I've done:
1. accidentally deleted files
2. deleted the three partitions that were on the drive and made the drive into one partition
3. formatted the drive using Windows Disk Management tool in Administrative Tools (Windows XP). I used the "Quick Format" option rather than the "Full Format". The file system of the drive (also before formatting) is: NTFS
4. Currently there is new data on the drive. I'm using it as a backup drive now.

This all happened a few days ago. Only now I have realized the goof up.

Please, if there is any way you know of that I might best be able to salvage any of the lost data, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I have a school report I've been working on for amonths now on my Mum's computer. I recently purchased my own, so I emailed the file from her computer onto mine and downloaded it onto my Office Word 2007. The file was uncompatible with my version of office (even though it was from the same disc we bought for my Mum's computer) so it was always saved to autosave. In order to upload it to the school it needs to be saved to the computer and not in autosave. So I tried to save it, and got a pop-up message that told me it was incompatible but I could still save it with no problems. (i don't remember the exact wording) So I went ahead and hit "yes". now the file is missing from the computer and no matter how much searching I do i can't find it. Any shortcuts or links to it that existed before don't exist anymore. Help!?

Okay, I recently reformatted. Turned out to be all hardward issues. Got a new motherboard and dvd-rw. But! I idioticly backed up pics on CDs. Well, the old DVD-rw was crapping out and all my pics came through except for one disc. Which gave me about half. Even a folder is split. Some pics recognized others not recognized by photoviewer or paint! There are some old pics on there that i want. I was in a rush to fix my computer before school started and didn't think it through. i know i should've backed them up online or an external or thumbdrive or something! Is there anything i can do... i'm pretty heart broken to lose these photos. I hope someone can help.

So I just tried to use unstoppable copier- a product known to save corrupted files and the like. And nothing, didn't work... this is looking grim. Please, oh great computer wizard, come forth and restore what has been lost.... i'm so doomed.

Hi,
I have a sony digital camera, a sony USB port, and the Microsoft Picture It! program to view and edit my pics. I was using my mouse to lasso 4 pics and to open them using the Microsoft Picture It! and a pop up came up. I clicked the wrong thing and they are gone, I mean gone. I don't even know what the pop up said. It was a knee jerk respone to say OK, or yes to the pop up. I must have hit the delete button instead of the "open" button. Ah! Are the pics retreivable. I looked at my desktop Recycle Bin, but they are not there. Just thought I'd try. Is there a trash file within my MS Picture It? I am so new to all this that I can't find it, if it exists. Anyone know a program that can help me retrieve the photos? Please help if you can. Thanks

Seem to have deleted photos from camera but only deleted what thought was single pic in favourites but all photos deleted

Answer:Seem to have lost pics, how can I get them back?

If the photos were saved in an SD Card, you may be able to recover them by connecting your SD Card directly to a PC and then by using a photo recovery program.
If the photos were saved directly in your phone storage, there is no way to recover them.

Hi All hope someone can help!

OK. I had 2 folders of .jpgs. I cut and pasted the contents of Folder one into a new folder (lets call it folder 3). I then cut and pasted the contents of Folder 2 into Folder 3. As there was a conflict of names of some of the items (different pics, but same names that the digital camera gave them) Vista then prompted asking what i wanted to do. I clicked the 'Keep both files, change the name of the new files' option. It didn't. Yes i was dumb and should of copied and pasted but i didnt.

Now what i have is a thumbnail showing the original pic (lets say a kayak). If i double click it, i get the 2nd pic (lets say a bird). If i copy the file anywhere, the thumbnail becomes a bird, and the file becomes a bird. I cannot get the kayak to copy or open anywhere.

UNLESS! I click the 'Slideshow' Button in the folder. Then my missing pictures view in the Slideshow (ie the Kayak shows, not the bird!)

Anyone, any ideas??

I somehow managed to lose a couple dozen pics. I dug out an old flash drive and used Recuva to search for whatever was recoverable. I believe I found them. I ran Recuva and saved them to another flash drive. The files show that they are .jpe files and average 500-600K each, so I was confident I had 'saved' them. But when I try to open them I get nothing.

I tried MGI Photo Suite and a window pops up stating "This is not a valid photo file". I tried Paint, Windows Office Picture Manager... any photo program I could find and nothing. I either get an error message or just a little red X in the middle of the screen.

I even tried changing the file extension from jpe to jpg and bmp hoping that would make a difference.

Is there any way to open these photos? I'm confused as to how the properties can state that it's an image file and be 700K (or so) and yet I can't open it.

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine experienced a BSOD crash on their Windows 7 computer. Unfortunately I was not in a position to see the exact message that was presented, however in my experience this doesn't always make a great deal of difference. After offering to fix my friend's computer I quickly discovered that one of the installed RAM sticks is faulty. I replaced both RAM sticks, and tested - all is fine on the RAM front. However the hard drive also appears to be corrupt. Windows 7 will not boot, and I have tried the following to rectify the situation:

1). Booted into Windows Recovery (using the W7 installation disk)

2). Windows didn't detect an Operating System install, so I made my way to the Command Prompt

3). Executed a number of commands that would normally fix the MBR and other boot related issues, notice after both the bootrec.exe /fixmbr & the bootrec.exe /fixboot commands reported "...completed successfully"! Then I issued the bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd command and Windows 7 promptly informed me that it couldn't find any Windows installations...

4). I then considered the possibility that the wrong partition may be set active on the disk, so I tried swapping the Active partitions around (and once this didn't achieve anything I switched back!)

Having had no success with the Recovery options I physically removed the hard disk and connected it to a docking bay -

Hi
I bought a new Dell PC with Windows 8.1 and wanted to transfer files from my old PC (Windows 7) to it.
I used a program called Goodsync which has a function called Goodsync Connect which connects and synchronises the 2 computers.
To my horror, at the end of the synchronisation, the files from my old PC, including the very important Pictures folder and everything in Thunderbird, had disappeared from the old PC but were nowhere to be found on the new!
I tried system restore but it doesn't restore files and documents or emails.
Can you advise please?

Answer:Lost Thunderbird & important folders when synchronising computers!

I tried Recuva as advised on other posts and saved the files recovered to an external hard drive.
I get thousands of files like these in the screenshot
Is it what I am supposed to find?
How do I restore this to my PC hard drive?

To Windows 7 Forum Community:

HELP!

I hope this is the correct place to post this ... *If not, please tell me which sub-forum would be suitable.

I assumed I need help with the update as the problem occurred after I did 9 important updates. *I read your suggestions so here is my responses: *All 9 (see step 3 error codes) Installed successfully, so there are no error codes to report. *I cannot download SURT as there is now no Internet access since the updates were installed!

Details follow:

After having just installed on my Laptop i5 computer running OS x64 WIndows 7 Professional---- 9 important updates (I always wait a while before doing that in case something is wrong for others to find the error and make a patch). *These were from 11-13-13 (at least that is the date they were downloaded into the computer waiting for me to manually install them by pressing Install button on the shutdown box).

Of course I'm having trouble! *Everything went fine with the download/installing process until I tried to use the web....
I tried many times using Windows Explorer 10, but I also tried Chrome and lost all my prior browsing sessions which I try to retain as both IE 10 and Chrom browsers said it could not find an internet connection.

It automatically launched the Windows troubleshooter.....(or maybe I did it I don't remember at this point)....

Windows Troubleshooter says "Troubleshooting has completed"
"Troubleshooting was unable to automatically fix all of the issue... Read more

Answer:After successfully installing 9 important updates, have lost Internet

I think your best route of action at this point is to do a system restore back to before it installed the updates; as those updates may not necessairly be suitable for your system. Just because microsoft puts out updates via windows update; doesnt always mean they are compatible with your system. I would do a system restore to before you updated all 9 items; and if you can; upload or post what those 9 items are and we can go from there.

When I bought my rig, the builder had put the wrong memory in it. They read the build sheet as "Corsair or Major Brand" and "upgraded" me to A-Data Gaming Series. The thing is, I had ordered Corsair Dominator. They were OOS of the Dom when I picked it up, so they offered to refund the upgrade fee and keep the A-Data, or ship the Dom to me when it was restocked. I went with the latter and have been running off the A-Data for over a month. I received the Dom a few weeks ago, but did not have the chance to pop it into my rig until today. I ran CPU-Z and now I am wondering if the Dom specs are truly better that the A-Data or not (I am not that well-versed in memory ratings and such). I think I would still have the option of shipping the Dom back and keeping the A-Data, but I want to keep whatever is best. Please advise.

A-Data SPD tab

Corsair Dominator SPD tab

A-Data Mem tab

Corsair Dominator Mem tab

From the Mem tabs, the Dom looks better than the A-Data, but to me the SPD tabs make it look as if the A-Data is better than the Dom. Maybe I am just reading this wrong. I dunno. I be . Any explanations will be greatly appreciated. TIA!

BTW, if there is a better util to run to rate my mem, please let me know and I can do that. It will not be a problem to pop the A-Data back in and get a reading.

VSP

Answer:CPU-Z pics: A-Data vs Corsair mem in my rig: pls advise

You should check whenever the A-Data are especially made for the i7 processor series...on the manufacturer site or your retailler.
Looks some of DDR3 PC3-10700 are made for this i7, and are generaly mentionned.

I think the Corsair are good but not the new generation for your " i7 860 @ 2.80GHZ "

Not such a PC issue, but I'm going to pray someone has knowledge that could help regarding Onedrive.
I recently decided to save all my pics to Onedrive due to lack of storage on my phone. I uploaded on the 4th July and after I deleted them from my phone. During this time I was always able to go through the Onedrive app (without logging in) and view pics and videos. So on Monday, July 20th I went to the app to watch a video and the app requested me to log in. I entered my email and then password - no pics or videos! I spoke to Onedrive support who were no help! I figured ok maybe wrong email address. So I tried another... and it showed me no pics. Now I know I used only one email to set up the account but for the life of me no idea how files are missing? Has this happened to anyone else? I didn't delete them nor were they in recycle bin. I thought it was not real time and eventually caught up and deleted pics over a week after I deleted them from phone. Then I read on one drive once they are uploaded they are not syncing with phone so I can delete from phone.
Any idea what I could have done? My instincts are telling me these are not gone for good and I should exhaust all avenues before giving up in the search of the pics/videos

How can I get that option back, and is it a windows xp problem??? Any help would be appreciated
Thx.

I was gathering up some pictures and documents to transfer to a memory stick before I attempted to scrub the drive and somehow lost all the items which I had put into a folder on the desktop and before I could transfer it to the memory stick it dissapeared. I checked the recycle bin but it wasn't there, I can"t locate it anywhere. I am not used to vista and generaly don't care for it. If these can be restored I need to transfer them to a stick and then proceed with my pc issues. My issue I believe someone sent another user on the pc a file which gave them back door remote access. Please help me with these two issues
Thank you
Mark

I need some help.

Yesterday I decided to move my photos from my hard drive to a CD-R for storage.
I selected the folder "still need to edit" and chose "cut". Then I opened the CD-R using XP and "pasted" the folder on the cd. After XP wrote the folder to the CD-R. I opened the CD to make sure the photos were there, but the only item in the folder is "thumbs.db"
There aren't any pictures!!! Now, the folder is no longer on my hard drive.
Have the pictures been deleted? Or are they possibly somewhere.

Any ideas would be great.

I run Windows XP home ed. version 2002, service pack 2

All seemed fine! Then when i went looking for several recent important word files i had been working on & they are gone....no idea, i've searched everywhere.

I tried to do a system restore but there is some problem and it says

"this restoration is incomplete. It was interrupted by an improper shutdown" - i'm not even sure if SR will help?

I really need these files, thankyou anyone who can help me here.

My user account which used to have admin rights now seems to be very limited, can't get to the calendar, the desktop settings, the control panel (start->settings->control panel) is totally missing! Every time I try getting to the desktop settings for example, I get a double popup that says "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator" I tried booting in safe mode and using the administrator account to give my user account admin rights but it shows it as already having admin rights. I have seen solve a similar problem for others. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

I can use Wi-Fi at home. I cannot use my data for anything at all outside of the house be it at the store, on the road or at work. While I can still use the phone and text and I cannot text pics to anyone or receive pics from anyone. I don't see in my settings where I would be causing this myself, I've paid my bill and have plenty of data on my plan left to use.

Answer:Why can't I use Data/Internet or Send/Receive Pics?

So... It has worked before and suddenly stopped?
Can you join the site and reply?
If it has never worked, you need to set your APN ans MMS

Can anyone help. I loaded my camera memory card using a card reader onto my laptop (running Windows Vista) and a window appeared saying something like 'this card contains a corrupted file-click here to repair'. Which I did thinking I could then carry on and download the pics. However I seem to have lost all of them. To check it out, I put the card back into the camera but it just said 'Card is Empty-no Data'. My question is, have I completely lost the pics i.e are they deleted, or are they somewhere within the computer and can I retrieve them somehow?Cheers all Kooji

Answer:Retrieve Lost Pics from Memory Card-Is is Possible

click hereIts free and if you haven't done too much messing around with the card should reclaim most of your pictures.

I have always backed my personal hard drives using images for easy restoration

However i now have 2 PCs that need backup performed and they just want the data so an image is not necessary thus i only want the important data ie; documents and settings important files no junk such as updates or temp files

I would prefer to remove the hard drives and plug it into another pc to perform the backup instead of doing the back up from the actual machine

I was looking for the best possible way to perform this

Answer:Backing up hard drives to external, important data ie; pictures music

You can use Windows Backup via Control Panel, System and Security, Backup and REstore, just for backing up your data and settings. A simple backup of C:\Users\<your username> would suffice for most people unless you have your documents on a separate folder or drive.
I use a good third party backup program called Retrospec Pro from EMC (Retrospect).

Hope someone can help.

Yesterday I turned on my Pc and I got an error message saying that something was wrong with the registry, I read up on the problem and it said that I could reload windows over the old version without losing any of my files and this would fix the problem.

But when I started Windows again it looked like a new version and I couldn't find any of my old files, I did not format the drive.

Usually I wouldn't care about old files but I went to Portugal in September and brought my two little ghirls and all the photos were on the pc, I'd be gutted if I lost all these pics.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Ok, I can run a search for jpeg files and the files show up as being on the C drive, but when I try to copy to another location or even access them, they show up as not being there. I have even run file recovery software and the files do not show up as deleted. How do I restore the file association, or access the file, it is aggravating to say the least. The laptop came with Vista from the factory, it is not an upgrade. Thanks to all who may have a solution.

It's a samsung SC-D363. I can firewire the video but I can't get the stillshot pics off because my computer won't recognize them through the USB. We had to re-do the hard drive a while back and we can't find the disc to reinstall the software. I've tried samsung's website but they don't even list this # and they haven't responded to my emails. Isn't there some generic way to pull pics off? Thanks for helping.

Answer:Anyone know how to download pics off a Samsung camcorder when I've lost the disc?

With the camera plugged in and ready to download look in My Computer to see if it shows as a drive. It works like any other drive and you can copy/paste to whatever folder you want.

With XP and Vista you usually don’t need a driver for still pictures to be downloaded if it works like a digital camera. But the manual says: “If you transfer data to a PC, you need to install the software (DV Driver, Video Codec, DirectX 9.0) supplied with the Camcorder.”

The manual says it shows as a drive, presumably with the drivers.

If you don’t already have DirectX 9 you can get it here. It is probably on your system though. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...20-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en

The driver appears to be here. You can also get the manual.
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/d..._nm=SCD363&language=&dType=D&mType=DR&vType=R

Hopefully one of the two Windows drivers will have the codec.

Dear fellow techies!

From the last few days, I am facing a major problem while burning my data DVDs. Everytime, the burn process fails in the beginning (around 1%). I use Nero basically but have tried CDBurnerXp and default windows burning options.

I have also tried different optical medias but the problem persists. I have wasted a lots of DVDs now to this problem.

I am sharing the error report of the recent failed process when I was trying to burn certain AVI files on the DVD. I also faced problems when I tried burning my digicam pics and videos.
Please help me...
