Preferred Solution: Windows Insider 14931 update bugs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows Insider 14931 update bugs

Hi and welcome to windows central forum.
insiders build are highly experimental and unstable builds with multiple unidentified bugs, which may not have a solution at present. In your case you can do a soft reset and check if everything is fixed.

I am running 14901 - which is more recent than the last Feature build of 14393 - then went onto the slow ring as the reports of many of the intervening Insider builds have been less than favourable.

Now that 14901 is warning that it will expire 02/10/2016, I returned to fast ring, and within a few days I was upgraded to 14931 -which is a problem, since the Graphics adapter driver for my onboard graphics (Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2, Core 2 Duo E4600. 6GB RAM, using onboard Intel g33/g31 express chipset family graphics) does not work properly, and the basic display adapter is a disaster, so I had to revert to 14901 to be able to use the machine fully.

In order to remain an Insider and continue to use this machine, must I revert to 14393, and stay on the release preview ring until such a time as this driver problem is fixed?

I have Version 1607 Build 14931 working fine on a Dell Optiplex 755 but had the same video problem with the onboard Intel Q35 and also on a Dell Inspiron 530S with the Intel G33/G31 onboard adaper. I was able to Disable the video adapter in Device Manager and use the default Microsoft driver but it didn't look good. I found a recovered ATI Radeon 2400 HD PCIe card for the Optiplex in my parts box and it fixed the problem. I'll have to check my saved parts box to see if I have a Low-Profile card for the Inspiron, or maybe just junk it as it has the bulged capacitor problem with 2 of them, although it's been running that w... Having all kinds of Windows 10 issues:

Windows Update not working. Updates will not download - hangs at 0% or 1%.Windows Installer broken - cannot install programs or updates.Files will often not download fully.

So I'd like to take the semi-nuclear option of trying to install 14931 over 14942. Or even wipe up my SSD (Windows/Programs - Data on a spinning drive) and reinstall Windows/Apps from scratch.

Thoughts??

Answer:Can I downgrade from Insider Preview Build 14942 to "regular" 14931??

Try this - look for hidden install.esd and copy elsewhere.

Convert to iso using

ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File - Windows 10 Forums

Double click on iso and run setup.exe to do a repair upgrade.

Download 14931, starts installing, reboots couple times, then goes to black flickering screen.
Only way to get it to stop is power off. Turn back on and says Reverting to Previous version, restarts where started,

On slow ring insider

Answer:Update 14931 wont install right

What I found here with one VM is that it would download WDefender and other updates but failed to see the latest build even start to download. I then sought out the Windows Insider download page linked off of the updated page now being seen for the Media Creation tool and went over to the WIPreview site's page there for both the download to the storage drive where ISOs are kept as well as a direct download to the VM running the 915 build until the second attempt after mounting the ISO itself.

I had to right click on the setup.exe file manually to run as administrative in order to get the upgrade type update install going manually!

The last few Insider as well as the Redstone 1 Anniversary update required a mounted ISO to get them on! With MS trying to push 10 in larger quantities I think they have now overlooked keeping the other things running smoothly while being too anxious for quota numbers not service like reliable servers at times! One of the other latest cumulative updates is also a concern for some it would seem as that is causing problems.

I just installed a windows update yesterday, Im not sure which one it is if anyone can help me find it Ill post it.
I have noticed bugs that came along with it such as:

Weird blurs around applications.

No (x) to exit a page and sometimes all 3 options are missing.

So far thats all I can remember, Ill post more if I find any.

Answer:Windows update bugs.

Hi Bz2120 and welcome to the forum. To find out what updates have been installed and on what date, just click on the start orb, open the Windows Update program and then click on View Update History. If it was only one update downloaded before your problem, you can go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, Installed Updates and choose to remove this update. Reboot after removal and see if it fixes you issue. Report back with results.

These are the following bugs that I have noticed with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update:

1.) Freezing Up: Taskbar, Programs, Apps freeze up.
2.) Start Menu: Opens fast that it stutters upon opening.
3.) Microsoft Edge: As I was typing this, it froze up. I had to minimize the browser (Edge) and open it back up.
4.) [ATTACH=CONFIG]94014[/ATTACH

There may be more but that's all I can think of so far.

Hopefully Microsoft will fix these issues soon.

Does anyone know how to fix the freezing up (not responding) of apps, programs, and the taskbar.

Microsoft today released yet another Windows 10 build from the Development Branch, bringing the build number to 14931. The build is for Fast ring Insiders, and it's available for PCs only.

14931 comes exactly one week after the previous Fast ring build, 14926. Like today's build, it only contained minor new features. There's always a time between when a major update is released - such as the Anniversary Update on August 2 - and Microsoft holds an event to show off new Windows 10 features where new builds don't have any groundbreaking new features.

In fact, the features listed don't really apply to the build at all. Most of the changelog is made up of app updates, along with USB Audio 2.0.

Here's what's new:

Feedback Hub Update: Feedback Hub has been updated to version 1.1608.2441.0. This update contains some highly requested features from Windows Insiders including dark mode, showing the original feedback author in the feedback details, and a settings page for Feedback Hub. To enable dark mode, just go into settings in Feedback Hub.

Maps App Update: The Maps app was updated to version 5.1609.2580.0+ last week. You can now you can check the traffic to your Home or Work locations at any time by tapping the Traffic icon in the app bar. You will see traffic conditions to Home and Work and your most recently viewed traffic cameras so that you can stay on top of the road conditions along your route. Additionally, the Maps app now follows your... Read more

Hi folks,
I recently updated my Lumia 1520 to update 2 via windows insider trick. Now I pretty much want to receive normal updates that are pushed to my device in the future and not windows 10 TP and all. So can u guys suggest me what to do in order to receive normal updates? Currently the update setting shows windows 10 update ready to download... Is there any trick that can help me?
Thank you.

Answer:Some help regarding wp 8.1 update 2 (via windows insider app)

I believe you will have to hard reset the device since you aren't supposed to stay on Update 2. It was supposed to stay there for a little bit, then upgrade to 10 automatically. Erase the device to "forget" that whole plan.
However, there may or may not be a less destructive solution since while I know when the device is asking to install it's too late, but I don't know about asking to download.

Hi,

Found the following bugs in v1709.

1) The Windows Push Notification System Service now defaults to 'automatic' instead of 'manual'. If you set the startup to 'manual' and reboot, any newly created accounts will have a non-functional Start Menu.

2) Software Restriction Policy now extends BAT file restriction to local group policy ( gpedit.msc ) 's logon/logoff script settings. That means you cannot no longer use a bat file for logon/logoff scripts if SRP is active. You can always remove the BAT extension from being covered by SRP, but that would decrease security.

3) Software Restricion Policy's Enforcement section: if you specify SRP to cover 'all software files'; meaning it covers DLL files as well as EXE, then MS Edge will crash. (this bug actually started in v1703, but is still not fixed)

Answer:Windows 10 Creators Update may have bugs - do not install it manually

Thanks for the heads up! I always wondered and have asked in threads at least once if the folks with the big problems were dling the CU and installing it, which acts as a clean install and not an update, or if they were getting it offered in Windows Update so it installed as an update. Nobody seemed to want to answer the question and this probably answers the question in many cases. I'm glad I wait for the update to be offered through Windows Update. When it is my "pucker factor' will still go up, but at least I'll have some hope!

Hello!
I am enrolled in the slow ring of the windows insider preview. I have a Lumia 640 . The internal storage available in it is 7.28 gb. To update, it requires 1.22 gb. I have removed all apps and documents I could have removed. Now only system does and the (uninstallable) Microsoft apps are left. How do i get the else required to update?
PS: The mail+ messaging shows it is using 103mb space. Can that be removed?

Answer:Windows 10 Mobile Insider Update

Im currently using 6.12 gb of 7.28 gb. It says i require 1.22 gb which comes around 6.06 gb. So i just need about 70 mb more space

Plz help me...i don't know the difference between windows insider and update advisor.
I updated my lumia 640 by windows insider...is there any problem?
Plz help me

Answer:Windows insider vs update advisor

Update adviser is to let you know whether or not your phone is compatible and for when MS/Carrier have the official WM10 update ready for your phone. Windows Insider is so you can preview pre release builds of WM10 on your device. Which ring did you choose? I updated my wife's 640 to the insider release preview ring for the .242 update(which will be more stable than the slow or fast rings) then removed her from the insider program so she'll get the next production release. I hope this makes sense, let me know if you need me to clarify anything.

I think that the last HP windows 7 update introduced bugs into windows explorer, it no longer displays the correct time and date for files.  Sometimes revised files display twice, once with the old time/date and once with the new time/date, or just the old time/date.  Is there a fix?  How can I return to the previous version of windows explorer that worked correctly?  I suspect that they are slipping in windows 10 updates into windows 7!!!

I was just finally able to update to Windows 10 build 14931 after working on it for about a week on and off. By all appearances the update looks successful and my machine seems to work just fine after the update however when I do my regular checks after such an update and in running a SFC scan in an elevated command prompt it fails at 19% with the message "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation". I did a search on this build and this error and it looks like others are having the same issue and a resolution but cannot find one. SO I am wondering if others are having this problem and if anyone has and has been able to resolve. Thanks!

PS Microsoft.....FYI.....I am really getting tired of jacking around with your substandard update roll-outs and thinking the insider program is not worth the hassle it causes.

Anyway to stop the expiration? fix the updates so it works or download and install offline so i can keep all my settings and stuff?

Answer:Windows 10 insider build update stuck on 80%

The Insider Previews aren't stable releases they are test builds... you shouldn't use them on a primary machine. If you need to recover files follow this guide:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/data-recovery-using-fedora/
You can download Windows 10 and clean install:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-windows-10-oem-and-retail-iso/
If you want to remain on the Insider Preview. Use the Insider Preview .iso:

Hi everyone,
Before heading off for the holidays I wanted to give a little bit of an update on how things are shaping up for Windows 10, especially since we don?t have a build for you this month. I know that some of you are disappointed that we didn?t release another build (though we know some of them escaped?.I?m looking at you 9888 & 9901?)* but now that we?ve announced our event on January 21st I can finally explain why we didn?t. We?ve been very hard at work putting together a great build for you that includes a bunch of new features and improvements. As all of those payloads came in we needed to stabilize code, fix any integration issues, and ensure all of the new UX is polished. We?re really focused on making the next build something that we hope you?ll think is awesome. In fact, just so that we have a *daily* reminder to ourselves that we want this build to be great, we even named our build branch FBL_AWESOME. Yeah, it?s a bit corny, but trust me that every Dev that checks in their code and sees that branch name gets an immediate reminder of our goal. We?re super excited to show you what we?ve been up to! Look for a follow-up blog post from us on where to tune-in to the live webcast on January 21st.

This Windows Insider thing seems to be gaining momentum

We have over 1.5 million registered Windows Insiders today which is amazing, and about 450k of you are what we consider ?highly active?. In other words, you?re re... Read more

Answer:The only way to update my Lumia 535 to Windows10 .is to use Windows Insider?

Yes.The Windows mobile 10 are not released yet,and if you want w10 the only way until now is via insiders.I'm an owner of Lumia 640 xl dual sim,and I dont know how 535 works but I tell you to download the w10.They are so good and smooth from the last 2-3 updates. In the app you can choose between slow-fast.And if you don't want to get fast and with buggs updates choose slow.
IF you wanna to try the last update just use fast.

I like many others have been having a problem getting my Windows Update set up to get insider builds. Even though I had signed in using my Microsoft account, I get getting the "Fix me" button which gave me a message about stopping insider builds. I think I identified the problem. I did a clean install of 10162 on a spare drive as a stand alone system. Update told me I was all set to get insider builds. Then I reattached my drive with Windows 8.1 and set it up for dual boot. As soon as I did this I got the infamous "Fix me" button. I then disconnected the Windows 8.1 drive and update told me I was once again all set to get insider builds. Strange - when Update sees another windows install on my system, it disables insider builds.

Answer:Problem with getting Insider Builds thru Windows Update

Yup that is unfortunately what happens if you dual boot with another version of Windows.
I get exactly the same scenario dual booting Windows 10 and 7.
If I want to update Win 10 I have to disconnect my Win 7 drive then all goes well until I reconnect my Win 7 drive and boot up, then follows a sequence of CHKDSK.
All part of the fun

I would like to replace my current WP with 8.1 Update 2 with a W10 phone. Should I buy 640XL & try to update to W10 (by Insiders or wait for Official) or else i wait for a new W10 phone which has the similar price & specs of 640XL?

Answer:When will 640XL get Windows 10 update Officially (not insider's)?

You'll wait a few months for a device from MS with similar specs. However, there have been several new models released that run W10M. If you're not particular about getting a microsoft branded phone, you could purchase one assuming it is available in your region
You could also test with insider after buying 640xl. But you'll have to do upgrade process carefully. Check the forums for guidelines

Microsoft to issue emergency Windows update for processor security bugs
Microsoft is issuing a rare out-of-band security update to supported versions of Windows today. The software update is part of a number of fixes that will protect against a newly-discovered processor bug in Intel, AMD, and ARM chipsets.
The company will issue a Windows update that will be automatically applied to Windows 10 machines at 5PM ET / 2PM PT today.
The update will also be available for older and supported versions of Windows today, but systems running operating systems like Windows 7 or Windows 8 won’t automatically be updated through Windows Update until next Tuesday.

But be careful, some antivirus do not take patch KB4056892 well.
Do proper testing.

I have recently updated my Lumia 730 to denim update in India and now I am interested to become an insider and I wanted to test windows 10 on my phone. But I signed in for windows inside and I installed windows insider app but I was shocked the app is saying that there are no builds available for me. What should I do to get the windows 10.

Answer:Windows insider app not working on Lumia 730 for those with denim update

Then I am shocked that you did not read which OS version you need.
Your OS is probably to high. So you have to wait till Microsoft releases an W10 version which allows higher OS versions to join.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...pported-phones
We're working to get more Windows Phone models supported worldwide. Download the Windows Insider app, and when your phone is supported you'll be able to sign in with the same Microsoft account you used to join the Windows Insider Program. Windows 10 Technical Preview currently works with the following phones?as long as they have at least 8 GB of storage, Windows Phone 8.1 was already installed on the phone at the time of purchase, and the version number is 8.10.14219.341 or earlier:

Hello, I've been trying for hours to get my HTC One M8 to run the Windows 10 preview, but I'm having some issues.
- As most people have suggested, I've hard reset my phone, not used a backup, then installed the insider preview and signed up for fast ring (I hear the newest build is great).
- Once I've done this and the phone has restarted and everything, I go to check for updates and.... nothing. Says my device is up to date.
- Tried resetting (twice), using the WP recovery tool, and still no updates come around.
Any suggestions? Could this have anything to do with my carrier (Verizon)? Am I out of luck? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Upgrading One M8 for Windows from 8.1 Update 2 to W10M Insider Preview?

I have an HTC One M8 running 10586.218 that my son is using (left IOS and likes W10M) and it runs very good on that phone.
You will not get an upgrade using the fast ring on the HTC, that is just for "supported" devices. You can get the very good 10586.218 release using "Insider Release" not "slow" or "fast" though. Not sure if "production" ring will get you anything either.

Answer:Windows Insider Update doesnt start -> how to cancel?

Sometimes it takes some time for the updates to happen. They look like they're stuck at 0%, but really they're still loading.
Your best bet is to set it on a charger and let it finish the update.

Answer:How to disable or stop windows update in Windows 10 insider preview?

I don't think you can disable windows update if you are a windows insider. At least not officially. You can, however, stop being an insider and then control and stop windows update.

Hello all,

Real quick, I'm having an issue where I try to update from Build 15031.rs2_release.170204-1546 to the next rs2_release available via Windows Update. The update downloads, does the pre-install, boots me into the traditional blue screen of updating, finishes, then reboots me to get back into the OS. At this juncture, I am at a blue flag and white dot circle, which has stopped spinning (it spins for approx .75 seconds) and halts, machine stays in this state ad infinitum. I can reboot it, at which point it goes back to the same state. If i shut down, then power back up instead (cold boot), the machine reverts the upgrade and goes back to the previous build and everything is honkey dorey.

Thing 1) I do not have a wireless USB mouse/dongle. Please don't recommend I remove it as one does not exist.
Thing 2) I have removed two possible culprits (Creative SoundBlaster Z card, Asus Wireless-N card). No change.
Thing 3) I have unplugged all video (except 1 Display Port), all USB connections, and the Ethernet cable. No change.
Thing 4) I even went so far as to disconnect my NZXT water cooler USB connector from the motherboard header and reboot. No change.

Most posts I see, it's a "Oh, your wireless usb mouse is causing issues" or, "the PC is having issues discovering USB devices during it's boot process, disconnect them". Well, I've done it, and it's still busted. This has happened with /every/ developer preview update since Win 10 was release. The first... Read more

I read through this and don't see anything I can help with except for what could be called a stupid question: Could it be your computer is too good for the IP versions? I pose that only because I have IP on a Dell 530 SFF computer and a Dell Optiplex 755 computer from back in Vista and Win7 days and working fine. I did have to use an Add-in Video card in both as the onboard graphics adapter had no drivers for Win10.

previously I enrolled in Windows Insider and upgrade my lumia 1020 to win 10 but then dg to win 8.1 ( at least 2 time )
yesterday I decided to update to win 10 again, so I installed Windows Insider and enrolled in " Insider Release Preview ", then I downloading the update file, I saw it till 88% but then I was forget to check on it and when I checked it, it was stopped. when trying to update again ( with check for update button ) it said that your phone is up to date ! since then I tried so many times to check again but still can not update my phone, even I tried soft reset and hard reset and also Flashing via Nokia care suite to win 8.1 ( cyan update and then to denim ) but still can't ( and also I changed my Insider ring to slow )
The windows insider said that your phone is ready to update and when I want to stop insider builds ( to do it from the beginning again ) it said that we can not do it right now because you have an update to get

Whilst attempting to update from build 16176 to 16179 it fails with error Windows 10 Insider Preview 16179.1000 (rs_prerelease) - Error 0x80070005

Finds this update and downloads a KB then starts to install 16179 but quickly stops with this error. I've tried stopping all non MS services and startup programs and rebooting but it still fails. I've also followed numerous different suggestions which got extremely complicated but had no effect.

DISM restorehealth can't find the files and I don't have an ESD/ISO for build 16176

I tried to reset my windows but it only offers a total reinstall losing my software and settings which will be a PIA to rebuild.

I could wait for the next insider release and see if MS have fixed it or is it a problem on my particular PC?

I was looking into the option of getting Update 2 (only) by enrolling in Insider Slow, then deleting the app, but on my 830 the only option is Insider Fast. On my Lumia 810 the options are Slow or Fast. What gives?

Answer:Windows Insider only option is Insider Fast w/ Lumia 830 RM-985 CA-00

Microsoft (Gabe Aul) stated that they don't have anything for slow ring until next build at the soonest. You can try to get it through fast ring though.

In a surprise move (to me at least), Microsoft has issued a Cumulative Update to holdouts who turned down the November 2015 Update or those who were unable to Update due to technical issues. This Update offers a whole package of fixes and improvements. Microsoft pushes out batch of cumulative updates for Windows 10 | Windows Central Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things Build 10240.17113 of Windows 10. Discuss it here. Basic tip
If you're having any issues with your device, try a reset.
Settings > Update & security > Recovery > Reset this PC > This provides you with two options: 1. keep my files and 2. remove everything Keep my files
Does just as its name describes. If you choose the setting you can reinstall Windows 10 without having to back up any of the pictures, videos, music and documents that you have stored on it. You absolutely should back up these things just in case, but you shouldn’t need to use that back up. Keep My Files requires a certain amount of free space on your device. As such, it may be unavailable to you if your device is stuffed with a lot of files. source: Insider Preview Update KB4046355 Silently Uninstalls Windows Media Player

After Windows Insiders installed update KB4046355 for the Insider Build 16299.15, they discovered that Windows Media Player had been silently removed from the computer. As Build 16299 is the Fall Creators Update that is scheduled to come out this month, it is unknown whether the removal of Windows Media Player is intentional as part of this large update or a bug.
Insiders not happy with missing Windows Media Player

The only way Insiders realized that Windows Media Player was removed was when they tried to use it to play a video. It was then discovered that Windows Media Player was silently removed after installing the October 3rd 2017 KB4046355 update. This update is called and "FeatureOnDemandMediaPlayer", but does does not provide any information as to what it does.

The only thing we do know, is that after this update was installed, all that was left behind is an empty Windows Media Player folder.Click to expand...

Thankfully, it may be possible to reinstall Windows Media Player
While some people have reported that they were unable to restore Windows Media Player, others have stated that they were able to install the program again using the Apps control panel. To restore Windows Media Player in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, simply follow these steps:
Goto Settings.

Hello everyone,
I've already upgraded to Windows 10 (from W7) around August 18th, and still didn't get the Fall Update.
That was fine, I tried using Media Creation Tool and installing the upgrade manually. After "Copying files" was done, at about 30%, right before starting to install drivers and features, it will stop installing and "restore to previous version of Windows", which is Windows 10.
I decided two days ago to join The Insider program on my laptop too, and after couple hours, I was able to download the latest build of Windows 10.
Again, same problem, it wouldn't install drivers and features, and restores the previous version of Windows.
I read somewhere that turning Wifi OFF might solve it but no solution.
Any suggestions?

Answer:windows 8.1 = Bugs,Bugs and Bugs

For the first issue, try disabling fast startup (Windows Power Management) and see if that fixes your issue. If so, try enabling it again after a few reboots and see if the problem returns.

I noticed some things wrong after I downloaded the Creators Update.
1. The date and time is missing on the Task bar. Only one number of the time and the colon is showing.
2. When I right click on the Task bar, there is no button to adjust time and date.
3. Task bar cannot be checked to lock the Task bar.
4. My PC takes a lot longer to shut down.
5. Where did Control Panel go? It was there when I right clicked on the Start Menu before the Update.
6. There are things going wrong by the second. Just lost control of the mouse.
7. Menu items are disappearing randomly.

Answer:Bugs in Creators Update

FWIW, I have none of the seven problems you listed. However, if you right click over the time area, you will get the option to adjust date/time.

I am a nokia lumia 720 user from India. Few days ago I have installed windows phone 8.1 update 1 dev preview (earlier i had windows phone 8.1 dev preview). After the update I am unable to use internet explorer 11 (of my mobile) with cellular network (but IE 11 works fine with wifi network). Cortana (alpha) is n't woking with speech language english(UK). It simply open & when I touch the microphone symbol, it displays a error msg that is "sorry, speech failed to start try again later" with an error no.-80045052 & also when I touch the box & type somthing for search, it displays a error msg,"sorry, speech failed to start try again later" with an error code no.-80070057 (If I change the language to english(us)/english(india), bing search opens in place of cortana). Also i am not able to open the "display" option in "settings".

Answer:bugs with WP 8.1 update 1 dev preview

Same problem here on my Lumia 630 in India. Speech changed to UK. Even if I search on Cortana it gives me the same error which is weird as I'm not even using speech. BTW I'd used beta by changing region and language to US before. When the alpha came around I reverted back to my original region and language. That's when the problem started....

I am a Win user since about 1990. Just more than a year ago I bought a Win phone (Lumia) as well. I drank the cool aid of integration.... but I am now soooo tired of this BS.
1. On the PC. Win 10 and anniversary edition. Like it. Then got seduced into joining insider fast lane (why not? see the new stuff...).
One thing about this o/s that has been irritating me like crazy for a year now was the seeming inability to have a "sleep"setting that actually works. Then, after installing the anniversary edition I finally solved it....
Settings/Update and security/For developers/Remote desktop/change settings to allow remote connections - then in "remote" tell the system not to allow remote connections. I mean... talk about hiding away an IMPORTANT setting....
But it worked! Till this morning. No sleep anymore. Only on and HD working like crazy or switch off.
Then I thought - let me go back to when it worked. So I went back to a previous update. Still not working - but now: I cannot go back to any other installation because I have updated 10 days ago - so the system tells me.
And I got a message that on 1 Oct the o/s will start rebooting every hour....
Meanwhile it seems something is downloading all the time. Since I cannot know what is working the HD, I guess I must accept it MAY be a new update? As opposed to some dork has hacked and is playing with my system.
All I am left with is - let it continue and if in an hour or so it still goes on and I still can... Read more

Hello, I've been having a lot of bugs with win10 ever since I got the update from win8.1..sorry for my english.
Here are some of it.
- Keyboard keeps malfunctioning most of the time. Like after logging in, I can't use the keyboard anymore. Sometimes the alt were permanently pressed which forced me to keep restarting until it goes fine.
- Cant uninstall non supported program on this version of windows which in my case is Daemon tools. This is really annoying since windows keeps popping up the notif that says this program is unsupported.
- If I purposely locked my computer, after logging in I can't use my keyboard anymore.

Hopefully this can be fixed. Thanks!

Answer:One year update bugs and issues.

Hi, I can't speak for the keyboard, but Daemon Tools has been mentioned here as incompatible. There are plenty of other programs that provide similar functionality.

Okay it seems that the Q180 is a buggy little devil and it seems some of the more annoying and bizzare issues could well be fixed with a BIOS update. Please list below any pet peeves you have that could well require looking at and including in a BIOS update. If ever one is ever to appear. Some for starters - Bizzare analogue audio wont function if install DVD booted in anything other than legacy mode. Strange suspend/shoutdown behaviour. No AHCI option for SATA. No CPU/GPU/RAM tweaking (c'mon guys these Atom machines need all the help they can get!)

"About two weeks ago, Microsoft released its monthly set patches, addressing 82 issues this time. All of these patches fix security holes that can harm your computer or give hackers access to it.
However, this September update apparently introduced a plethora of other bugs that needed unscheduled, non-Patch Tuesday patches (known as "out-of-band" fixes) to resolve. Some bugs, especially for older Windows systems, don't even have fixes to this day."
The fix for the Win 10 Anniversary Update patch is only available by manual download, while the fix for Creators Update will be automatic.
Fixes for update problems will be needed for Win 10, Win 8.1 and Win 7, and Office.

Woody Leonhard's advice:"Assuming you don’t click “Enable Editing” in Word, there are no immediately pressing September patches. I say it’s wise to wait and see if any of the outstanding bugs get fixed — and wait to see if the patches-of-patches generate new problems of their own."
Comments:
1) I always wait a week or two before getting monthly security patches, just to see what bugs the patches are causing. I think I'm going to now wait wait a full month, to one day before the next Patch Tuesday.
2) Is having a separate search window in IE a bug, or a feature?

I was a bit shocked to find that the recent update from 43.xx to 44 resulted in the saved password functionality being turned off.

In addition (and this is the worst part) - the logins.json file where this stuff is stored, gets cleared down (initialized).

If you check out this thread:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1242176
There seems to be a subtle bug that depends on certain settings, and an issue that started out from version 42.

The fix is simple, provided you are one of the lucky ones that do backups, or at the very least, backup your C:/users and profile areas.

You need to do 2 things:
1) ensure that the options in security have the "Remember Logins For Sites" option ticked (as it becomes unticked after updating - part of the bug I think)
2) Restore your backed up logins.json file from your backup medium, overwriting the bad/initialized one in your Firefox default profile folder.

TIP: I use Agent Ransack to locate the original and backup files, as they are quite deeply nested in the file path.

On restarting the browser, the previous/normal/expected behavior should be seen.

I hope this helps those affected by this bug, as I found this quite annoying, and I have never had a Firefox update issue before.

Answer:Firefox update 44 bugs, password issues

UPDATE: looks like a regression in FF42, that laid in some new pref options, but did not actually get used/referenced until the FF44 update. It seems that some migration and sanitize code was in the wrong place in the new FF44:
"Thanks for the info. That aligns with the other reports so you are likely hitting this same problem. We're fixing this for 45+ in this bug and for users of older versions we will hotfix in bug 1243841 to prevent the data loss"
So, Mozilla will fix this in FF45+, but if you have lost your various site logins and passwords, then no fix will get them back.... Some of their research and testing put some suspicion on to Norton Identity Safe add-in, even if not actually activated, Mozilla analysts are wondering if it may have flipped one of the new pref settings to true. Some testers are saying this login/password loss happened on test systems that did NOT ever have any Norton products, so this is NOT proven as a cause.

If you DO use/rely on the FF browser to remember your site logins, then this issue shows just how important taking backups is. Luckily, this is NOT a show-stopper, but even irritations like this can easily be overcome by restoring one small file from backup!

As an aside - it would be interesting to know if FF SYNC users were/are affected by this bug, and if sync between an unaffected device at FF42, and an affected device at FF44 would be "fixed up" or "broken" (i.e. would the unaffected populated side be syn... Read more

Ok, so i did clean install of the new fall update and everything went smoothly. However, I noticed two small annoyances that I'm not sure are bugs do to the new update or just a fault of my own. First, I noticed a slight flicker when booting up during the splash screen/boot logo section (the boot logo appears then a quick flicker or a switch to a blank screen happens, however you want to put it). Before the update, the boot logo would appear only once as normal and then it would quickly move on to the login screen. Its very minimal and slight, but it bugs and annoys the crap out of me. Secondly, I noticed that I now have to click twice on the search box in order to make the cursor appear and type in a search (again small and minor, but i use that search box a lot and I can't stand the extra step ). Before, I could just click it once and start typing, but now if I just click once inside the search box it brings up cortana and then I have to click again. So yeah thats it, nothing big, but I figured I would mention it to see if anyone else recognized the same bugs and maybe had a fix for it. Thanks.

Answer:Two Minor Annoying Bugs After Fall Update

The upgrade has a high chance of corrupting your graphics driver, as well as storage driver and other. I highly recommend reinstalling all drivers after upgrading.

I post these symptoms to provide as much information as possible, to see if others are experiencing similar problems.
The persistence of the problems are irritating, but at present they don't overly hamper my productivity [though the drag and drop problem is irritating as all heck].
At it's base my query is three-fold. Anyone else experiencing similar problems? Anyone come up a solution other than troubleshooting or service start/stop which I've already tried numerous times? And most importantly, does this look to be something I should go to the trouble of reinstalling over, or something that Microsoft will fix eventually, given time? I have patience in this busy period, but no use postponing a reinstall if it's inevitable. I'm more concerned that the fixes present more errors than the I am about the update errors themselves at present.

Question: Insider update.

Have windows 10 1511 with digital rights. At 7 am NY time this morning I changed my settings for fast ring, I am a registered insider. How long before I get 14393.5 update?

Henry

Answer:Insider update.

Usually takes 24-48 hours after switching ring. There is truly no rhyme or reason to the exact time MS clears you for the download. You will get 14393.0 first and then a Cumulative Update to 14393.5 if and only if you are set to the Fast ring. So be sure to check which ring you have after you get 14393.0. For me it was initially set to Release Preview.
