BIOS Update Failed - Windows Will NOT Load (HP Pavilion DV7)...

Question: BIOS Update Failed - Windows Will NOT Load (HP Pavilion DV7)...

System:HP Pavilion DV7-1135nrWindows Vista Home Premium SP2 (64 bit) Problem:I was having problems with the Wifi not working, which is common with this system according to other threads. One of the forums suggested updating the BIOS. The original version was F.48. I located and downloaded the latest version, F.49, from the HP help page, which is an EXE file. I ran this, The Wifi button changed from orange to blue and was working. When done with the laptop, the lid was closed, which put the computer into sleep mode. The next morning, the lid was opened and the computer was working as normal, however, the Wifi button was orange and would not go back to blue. After walking away from the laptop and coming back, I received a DOS screen stating: Windows Boot Manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."3. Click "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or copmuter manufacturer for assistance. File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Status: 0xc0000225 Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. Steps Taken:I tried using a friend's Vista Home Premium SP2 CD. It does boot into a windows-type environment and offers to install Windows, but it does not give an option to "Repair your computer." I tried loading into Safe Mode, but it keeps putting me back into the Install Windows screen. Thinking Windows itself may have gone bad, I mirrored the SSD and stored it away, formatted the SSD, and then installed a prior mirror of the drive, which was functional when it was creasted. I started the computer and again get the "Windows Boot Manager" info listed above in italics. I tried locating a valid copy of the previous BIOS, F.48, without success. I then downloaded F.49 again, thinking the original install was corrupted somehow. Request:1) Can someone tell me a way to install/update the BIOS without being in Windows? It says it needs a Windows environment to work, which I obviously do not have. 2) Can someone help me find BIOS F.48 for my system, preferrably one that does not need to be installed in a Windows environment?

Preferred Solution: BIOS Update Failed - Windows Will NOT Load (HP Pavilion DV7)...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

you've probably heard this before but everywhere I look forums only tell of how to fix or temporarily fix it. What caused this problem in the first place? also, I keep hearing about this thing called windows blinds but everytime I type it in on google it just shows actual window blinds for houses in the results.

I think my pc may have registry problems. If i fix those with the right software will everything be normal again? sometimes when I play my games it also just shuts down unexpectedly telling me a prob caused it to close.

Don't mean to sound like a noob for this stuff but it kind of bugs me how you have to do so much research and be a tech genius in order to use windows right. I mainly want to know about this stuff because I play crysis alot and it has taught me to fix and reconfigure things on my pc in order for it to run better and I'm happy about that but I don't really want to be a techie or pc enthusiast and have to go to computer school for 4 years just so I can run my game perfectly! its driving me nuts. so any help on what I can do to solve this? know its my fault for downloading freeware and things like that when I wasnt as knowledgeble but after this gets resolved I think I know enough about pc's now to prevent any future problems. thanks guys.

I'm working on my mom's computer remotely via LogMeIn (Home Premium SP2). A persistent problem is an inability to update the system due to the Windows Update giving me a "The page failed to load" error. This happens after I click on the "15 optional updates are available" hyperlink in the Windows Update pane. There are no critical updates.

An initial Google search returned the most common cause as being "WindowBlinds" by Stardock. This program, however, is not installed on her computer (verified by a search of programs in the "All Programs" links, "Program Files" folder, "Uninstall or change a program", and a search for "stardock" in the registry.

"sfc /scannow" in administrative mode on the command line failed to return any errors.

I also went to Microsoft's relevant Knowledge Base article here and attempted to use the Fix It program to fix Windows Update. The program successfully ran and fixed the files that were damaged (whatever they happened to be), but this did not solve the issue.

Finally, I removed threats using SUPERAntiSpyware, reregistered some .dll files as recommended by Microsoft (IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of them failed), and restarted with non-essential services disabled and startup items disabled.

I came across a term, BIOS, and was wondering what it was. After doing some research, I found out that I have a very old BIOS, American Megatrends Inc. 6.02 7/21/2010. I am intereted in playing video games after I updated my Power Supply and Graphics Card. The games I play are becoming slower than a few weeks ago. I hoped to resolved the solution and possibly increase the performance of my computer.

I was wondering if I should update my BIOS. I followed the guide from: Updating the BIOS When I tried searching for an update, I could not find a BIOS tab. I read somewhere that I should not attempt to update my BIOS if there is no such tab. I would really like to improve my computer, but I do not know how. I have also read that I should not find updates from the "motherboard manufacturer's Web site," incase something goes wrong. What should I do?

Answer:HP Pavilion p6624y Windows 7 64-bit BIOS Update

I'm not sure what you mean by a "BIOS tab".

Your BIOS is 2 years old. That's not "very old".

The general rule of thumb is to NOT update a BIOS unless you have very good reasons to believe doing so will eliminate a particular problem.

What are your good reasons? Have you read somewhere that your specific problems will be cured by moving from BIOS 6.02 to a new BIOS?

Hope is not a reason.

I'm not sure what you mean by your next-to-last sentence.

Your slow gaming performance is most likely due to some other reason.

At any rate, BIOS updates do not generally "improve performance". Instead, they fix particular problems or increase compatibility.

My sister asked for my help with her HP Pavilion P6-2326s. She had upgraded it to Windows 10 and used it a bit, I think, but it kept acting more and more broken until it mostly wouldn't even boot. At the point I got involved, we tried some different monitor cables and connections (seeming help there was probably only coincidental), and got it to the point where it tried unsuccessfully to load windows. I also tried pressing escape and got to a more extensive menu than I've seen since. I gave up for the night, powered it off, and was back to nothing on the monitor the next day. Then I found this thread. A big "thank you!" to the contributors there. I've had a bit of success following Emma's and Edward's methods and am hoping someone with the knowledge I lack will stop me from squandering any more opportunities to get further. After many attempts (usually can't even get a signal to the monitor), I got it to post. Have managed that several times over many, many tries. One of those, I was able to boot a live Linux DVD and copy her files to an external usb drive. I haven't tried terribly hard to boot windows, but I'm not optimistic about getting it going well enough for sp70376.exe, so I would like to update the bios via usb stick without booting windows, if I can. Possibly, sp70376.exe offers the option of doing it that way, but opening it on a working computer just to find out what the "on screen instructions" say seems dangerous. I found and created the 3-in-one key (SP78883, ver... Read more

Hi, My partner was going to sell her HP pavilion x2 Detachable, So i went on to do a factory reset, waited around 2 hours at it slowly ticking away then it said it had failed. Ever since then it got stuck in a continous HP loading screen to resert loop. Ive tried restarting, hitting esc and tried re-doing a reset but it continously fails, now it gets to a point which im able to log in to user, comes up with preparing windows, then just goes to a blank screen.

Answer:HP Pavilion x2 failed factory reset now wont load

Enter the BIOS by pressing the power button and immediately tapping the F10 key. Change the system date to 01-20-2014 Press the F10 key again to save the change.  Try booting again from the recovery media.

Hi Guys at SevenForums Im back again(i know you guys are tired of me, lol)! O.K., here goes:

first, I got an alert from the action center saying I have a virus( although i know it would be helpful, i do not remeber the virus' name, sorry), it showed the name, and suggested i remove it. So i downloaded mbam, installed it, updated it, and ran it. it discovered 1 moderate, 3 low risk infections so I removed them all. I ran a quick scan afterwards to confirm the system was clean...and system was clean. ( I also ran a quick scan with VIPRE Internet Security 2013 and found 0 infections)

second, I received a windows update alert saying there were updates available. I figured that would be a good idea right about now to fully update my system with any vulnerability releases, so i let them download, but i always choose when to install them. They completed download and were "ready" for install. so I shutdown the computer so it can install the updates. So far, all textbook stuff right?

Here's where it got tricky...

O.K. so third, it gets to the windows screen, but the login screen never appears just the mouse cursor. I chalk it up to the updates now being configured,...so I wait...and wait...and wait. So now its been 15 min and things are not looking textbook at this point. the display is still showing a black screen and I notice the HDD light is not flashing, so its not crunching. Since no data was being crunched I figured it safe to power down and retry, but the power ... Read more

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

Laptop Medion MD40734 Same as FID2060 From ToysRUs & Aldi. Made about last 2 to 3 years I know off. This is a common problem when trying to upgrade XP with SP2. SP2 will load but then Windows XP will hang after restarting computer.
I have noted 5 people in UK and others outside UK with exact same problem.

MS SP2 Help at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm
They suggest removing SP2 then fix from MS help as follows http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b99c199-5d75-454f-ae07-b620727be8d8 then load SP2 again. When it fails again with same problem they suggest new BIOS. Medion new BIOS at http://www.medion.co.uk/ using AGP Interface Driver FID 2060
and use instructions given. If your drive is NFTS with only one partition (or not original format) you will have to disregard their instructions and copy file to a floppy or CD and run from there.
IT WILL NOT MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR BIOS even though it has it on screen when file open.

I strongly advise you do not use this BIOS update as it will probably cause lockup on loading on POST.

I saw somewhere you can load BIOS through DOS making a backup of BIOS as you load new updated BIOS. Not sure that if even if you did that you could reload old BIOS if all goes wrong.

Suggest forget SP2 until Medion get this sorted. You may end up needing new Motherboard.
I have tried all this and still have the problem. Can actually access Windows XP by using Medion Application and support CD so all is not ... Read more

I just restored my x61 to original settings due to a problem with blue screens, and decided to update the BIOS right afterwards.  I followed the directions precisely and it installed all 21 of the individual components for this model.  I then shut down the computer and turned it back on this morning to continue loading software.  The system started with the fan running at high speed and stopped at the ThinkPad Screen.  However, nothing happened after pressing the ThinkVantage button and F1 or any other button for that matter.  I left it for a couple hours, but finally determined that I could not turn it off or do anything with the machine.  It just hung there.  I did finally remove the battery and replace it, and now there is no power registering when the machine is plugged in and it won't start. Is there something I can do to recover the system?  I suspect the answer is a board replacement.  The BIOS update failed in conjunction with something on my computer.  I am just 2 years into the warranty period in the US, so if I need to replace the board, what are the best options? Thanks for your help and comments....this is a very frustrating turn of events, since it is my work machine.

Hi,
I really appreciate the good design of Dell Inspiration 7353 laptop, it's good, mostly indeed.
Recently I have a problem to use legacy boot (USB, DVD/CD, Internal HD, whatever), after I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest one (Inspiron_3153_3158_7353_7359_7568_1.13.0). Due to legacy boot is required in my daily work, so I will ask for help, see if anyone can give me a solution.
When I used the laptop without any BIOS upgrade, it can boot from any legacy driver (USB, etc) with Windows 7, 8+ etc.
Then it had a small USB issue, I thought I should try to upgrade BIOS, see if this can help, then soon I started to regret, because I had found that all legacy boot is failed, the Windows 8.1 throw me into a BSOD, tell me PAGE FAULT error. I have tried USB, internal HD & DVD, all same.
Then I googled, saw someone had similar problem (not same), he cleared CMOS by pull out the battery, so I tried it without any hope, but surprisingly, when I pull out the battery and remove the connection of power adapter and laptop battery, by pressing the power button several time with & without power cord connected, then I installed the CMOS battery, laptop battery, restart the laptop.
When I press F12 to load the boot menu, it really can load legacy bootable device, but that's one time thing. After the system reboot, the problem back again, looks like if I want to boot into legacy bootable device, I will have to remove CMOS battery each time like above all...sad.

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

Hi

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

tatot,

What was your BIOS version before the flashing? (BIOS version compatibility)

If it was a 1.x version you can only flash with another 1.x version, if it was a 2.x version you can only flash with another 2.x version.
If your system shipped with Windows 7 and you upgraded to Windows 8 you cannot use the ones marked "Not for Ugrades"

If you are unable to reflash you will need to contact the Acer Technical Support in your area for options.

Hello All! After a BIOS update (offerd by Lenovo Update) - and the automatic restart - the laptop doesn't boot. The led lights, the fan spins for a couple of seconds, but only black screen, no logo, no BIOS, no Windows.  Removing the CMOS-battery (for longer time) or pressing fn/win+B/R with the power button doesn't help. I'm trying to make a flash drive to flash the BIOS following these instructions. However I'm unable to retrieve the BIOS.wph or other proper file to use for the flash drive. I was using these originalfiles (both 2.08 and 2.5x), but neither with 7zip nor by installing the .exe (without installing the update itself) did produce the file I need. Could somene please help, where I could find the proper file (.wph or other) to make a BIOS flash with Phoenix recovery tools for a Thinkpad Edge 430, or whether you have an idea what other soultion (different software instead of Wincrisis for ex.) could I use to get my BIOS back into life again? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Failed BIOS-update on E430 - need wph for BIOS recovery

Unfortunately Lenovo laptops do not provide BIOS recovery functionality, either get the laptop in for warranty, or find a local computer repair shop that will reprogram your SOIC8 BIOS chip, they usually charge $40

Viruses also cancause this.Because scanning on allive system is not credible because many viruses can hide before antivirus I suggest use LiveCD with antivirus for example this one Dr.Web LiveCD is a software product that features a standard, Dr.Web scanner ,burn boot it and scan.

Hey, I reinstalled Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit and I was running the system update.  The BIOS portion failed on me (not responding) and I had to reboot my computer.  Now it seems like the computer turns on but the screen doesn't turn on. Help.

Answer:Computer screen not turning on after BIOS update failed using System Update

Hello, if your dvd is spinning up, you could try to download your bios as an iso file, burn it to disc, and try to boot and flash from this cd.The last chance is to take out the battery, click power ten times, insert battery again and plug ac in. If nothing goes, call Lenovo support line, you´ll need a new system board.

Hello,
I have windows vista on I.E.8. When some updates arrived from windows, I clicked on the windows icon in the taskbar, it opened saying that "page failed to load" (otherwise the page is blank). Also I cannot remove the icon, this has been this way for the last 3 days. Does anybody have a solution ?
Thank you.

Answer:Update page failed to load

All O.K. It was the "windows blinds" that was the culprit

After Windows 8.1 downloaded and installed an update and also SQL Server 2012 SP1, I restarted it and then it no longer booted. The BIOS splash screen would pop up, then the screen went black and nothing else happened. Even the hard drive activity stopped.
I booted from the Windows 8 DVD and chose Troubleshooting and tried Automatic Repair and System Restore, neither of which worked. I then chose Refresh Your PC. However, it then said the drive was locked and I should unlock it before continuing. I used Diskpart to clear the attributes of the volume but that didn't help.

In the end, I did a reinstall without formatting the disk. Once I booted it up properly, I had a look in the Windows.old folder and all of my documents, pictures and other work are missing.

Firstly, is there any way I can roll back to the original install so I don't have to spend a full day installing everything again, and if not, how do I recover all my files?

Answer:After update, failed to load, couldn't fix

Did you back up first?

Hi all, I tried updating the BIOS on an old computer with an asus m2n mx se plus mob and it failed so when I came to restarting the computer it wouldn't load and comes up with a bad bios checksum. checking floppy...not found....checking cd ...not found. I have downloaded the latest bios file from asus and tried all sorts. there are actually no instructions on their site on how to reload the bios onto the mob. (I am not sure if this is even possible, I am not great with the aspect of computing) Anyway so far I have tried changing the file name to M2PLUSSE.ROM which is what the mob asks for when loading up with a cd in, says reading M2PLUSSE.ROM.... can't find M2PLUSSE.ROM I have put this on a CD on its own, with the 3 items in the zip file that are downloaded...one is a flash exe file and the other a text file....have created an ISO and burned this to CD and still no luck. ONE point to note is that I am doing all the work on a macbook pro as this is all I have. I have used the disk utility on mac to burn the CDs. I have bought parts to build a new PC as this is quite outdated but I would really like to get it up and running so I can save some of the stuff on the hard drive before I have to wipe it for a clean install of windows.
Thanks for any help :)

I am using Vista 64 bit. It seems that it has suddenly lost the wuapp. I have tried to open it from the control panel>system maintenance>windows update.
All I am able to get is "The page failed to load".
I have also tried to open it directly from computer>hp

with the same result.
With out this I am unable to see the updates for my system. I have even tried to look at the Microsoft website and find nothing there.

Do you have any Stardock programs installed? Alot of people report this problem after installing Stardock especially the Stardock application My Colors. Also have you installed any other browsers besides IE. Could be a number of things disrupting the Windows Update

I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

I used System Update on my T530 today to update the BIOS.   On reboot, the T530 hung.   With help from Lenovo support, I rebooted the computer.   Now System Update says the bios update was successful to 2.54.1.11, but SystemInfo says that the current bios is BIOS Version: LENOVO G4ET93WW (2.53 ), 2/22/2013.    Lenovo support said that they only support the hardware and this is a software issue.   They had no idea who in Lenovo supported System Update.   They also advised to rarely if ever to update the bios "unless the system doesn't boot properly".   I have never heard that in 30 years of IT.    I would like to get System Update to be consistent with the bios level.   And I believe I want to update the bios.   Can anyone help with either of these two issues? ThanksBarry

If you're sure you want/need the BIOS update, you can download it from your Driver Matrix:

I would recommend the Bootable CD version. I've never had a failed update with that method.

I purchased this laptop in December with Windows 10 installed. A few weeks ago I started getting a notification in Support Assistant to update the system BIOS.  No matter how many times I run the update the notification persists and the Action Log has never recorded this update as having taken place. After checking with this Forum, it appears that other users have had issues with BIOS updates, and HP Support cautions against updating the System BIOS unless there is a compelling reason to do so. 1. Since I am not having any issues which would compell such an update, should I simply dismiss the notification? 2. If such an update is not advised, why does Support Assistant display its notification? 3. Would dismissing the notification render this Notebook suseptible to security vulnerabilities? 4. The instructions on the HP website for updating theSystem BIOS are considerably more complicated than the procedure launched from Support Assistant. What exactly is this?  The update in Support Assistant is Softpac number SP76353, Version F.19Ap1, Size 8.89MB.

Answer:HP Pavilion BIOS Update

Hi @LAB7, Thank you for posting at HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that you have some questions about updating the BIOS. I agreed that if there is no problem with current system running, it is not necessary to update the BIOS. However, HP support assistant will populate the notification once there is a newer version of the BIOS. You can dismiss the message and it will not cause security problems. There is another way to update the BIOS, by downloading it from HP support page. You can put your product number here on this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers. Select the right OS on the page, it will show the most updated drivers of your model including the BIOS. Hope these could help. Let me know if you need further assistance. If this post helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "thumbs up" to give me Kudos. Regards,

I got a big problem. A friend asked me to update his OS on a HP Pavilion 900MHZ desktop. So i did. He also asked to upgrade his memory from from 256mb to 512mb. So i tried. He has the 168pin Sdram DIMM. One stick worked fine. But when I put in the second stick it errors. "bios not acpi compliant"

So i looked up the error. First i found that i can just turn off the acpi in cmos and it will work. No option in cmos. Then I found to redo the install and at the setup screen hit F7 instead of F6. Did not work. Blue screen during install. Also found that i need to update the bios. Went to HP site. NOthing there. Went to motherboard site. Its an asus k7m board. Got the updated bios. Got the flash program. No luck. Says bios/chipset not found. CAnnot flash the bios. Thing is i am stuck. Got the memory from a local computer shop. He had to special order it since its so old. He will not take it back. $70. I need to flash this bios.

Anybody know where i can find a flash that will upgrade the bios or a website to help me with this?

The memory stick is good. I can put either one in and it works fine, just not both. Very frustrated.

Thanks

Answer:HP Pavilion Bios UPdate

What model Pavillion is it? Many times though you have an asus mobo the Bios has been customized for HP to work with it. And the motherboard may also not be a standard asus K7m motherboard, being a custom setup for HP.

Hello.I can't find the Bios update on HP site. My bios is the AMI 8.09 28/09/2012, but I know that there is a new version: 8.20 Rev.A 12/01/2015. I found it looking around, but no trace on HP's site.Where i can find it?I try searching under "software and driver" section, but I can't select my window's version (10) so it seems that there isn't new updates for my bios. Thank you!

Answer:HP Pavilion p6-2315el Bios Update

@Dalla1974 Sorry, but HP makes their BIOS updates OS-version specific.  This means that to do a BIOS update in Win10, the HP site must have an update for that version OS. If you try to run a BIOS update for a different OS version, that will likely fail and error out due to OS version mismatch.

The other day my HP Pavilion X2 (2 in 1) started to perform a BIOS update. The update went through all it's paces and gave me a message, something like don't turn off your computer or hit the power button after restart, even if screen goes blank. Needless to say after ~ 30 minutes the computer did not start up (nothing). I had a full battery while I was using the computer and during the update. Now I can't turn on the computer, nothing on the computer screen (Blank).I've tried to hold the Microsoft & B keys and push the power button for 1-3 seconds while still holding the Microsoft & B keys (NOTHING). There does not appear to be any power going to the unit even when I plug in the HP Power supply (NO LED light) which should not be an issue since the power supply was not hooked up during the update? I've even tried to perform a HARD Restart (Power Button and ESC) with NO luck. I've never had any issue with a computer before in my life. I can understand if I would have dropped it or downloaded a virus but It was an HP assistant update. Right now I have an HP BRICK sitting on my countertop. I tried calling the help line but the folks overseas were focused on the power supply and just wanted to send me a new power supply. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Mark

Good afternoon, For over a year ago I bought a HP Pavilion 500-407nd but it never functioned properly (slow and very loud fan). I registered multiple tickets at Customer Care and their solution was to update my BIOS. Only problem was that all the different BIOS updates on the HP support page were not compatible. Answer:HP Pavilion p6-2113er BIOS update

@Andrey33,According to the HP support page, that unit was issued/released March 2012. The original OS was WIN 7.   UEFI vBIOS, which newer cards like the GTX 1050 use, will never work with a BIOS based system.  That's why your getting the "beep". That being said,  you might be in total disbelief.  Go here, and run the program. You need to see for yourself, its either BIOS or UEFI. What makes it worse is you can not fix/upgrade to UEFI. And your gonna get a hefty return fee (I paid $50).

Can't locate any BIOS updates, nor any driver updates, from HP's site - not that I don't get my driver updates from elsewhere. Updating the BIOS is my last hopeful act before scrapping this motherboard, since the old BIOS doesn't support my new graphics card (Asus GeForce GTX 750 Ti, no extra power requirement, although I did buy a 600-watt PSU to replace the junkware 300-watt PSU that came with the PC). I am aware the latest update almost certainly won't fix the problem, but I've got nothing to lose at this point. I'd gladly swap the card to an MSI model which, according to the Internet, works with older BIOS versions, but my retailer won't refund products if they have been installed once (even if they don't work). When connected, the PC beeps thrice - once every 20 seconds or so - and gets stuck on a black screen with a flashing cursor. You can probably see how this is a problem. The specifications of my PC seem to be the same as these, with the exception of a different product number and the upgraded PSU (and no, that page lists no updates, either):http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5151865&calledBy=&docId=emr_na-c03068621...And, as you can probably guess, the BIOS has never been updated before, meaning it's v7.13. If no update is available, makes it worse by bricking my sweet baby Jesus motherboard, or doesn't fix my problem, are there any budget motherboards I could buy that are fully compatible with my system (yes, the Asus... So that's a no go, i presume. It seems there's not a way to force a reload of the failed update. I can still load boot, system menus. But BIOS didn't finish updating

I have an HP Pavilion 11-n010dx x360 that would not boot if plugged in after a normal shut down.  If it was not plugged into power, it would boot just fine.   After troubleshooting on these forums, the next suggested thing to do was flash the bios.  So...I downloaded the bios and went through the normal on-screen prompts and flashed/updated the bios.   Now, it will not start at all.  When I turn the power on, it never even gets to the pre-boot and bios.  I found where there is an emergency bios recovery by powering off the notebook.  Then press the "Windows" and "B" keys at the same time and then turn hit the power button for three seconds.  Well...No love.  Another post said for newer notebooks, to use the "Windows" and "V" key instead...Still no love. Are there specific buttons to do the bios recovery?  Or, another method for HP Pavilion 11-n010dx x360 notebooks? Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Question: Bios update failed

Hi ho, had some trouble with my X61 lately. I did a bios update, followed the instructions. everything worked fine, no errors. At the end, I was asked to reboot - and the machine was completely dead. I removed the main and the cmos battery for a few days, but nothing changed. Are there any options I have? Is there a way to rewrite the bios in the labs? Can I get a plain mainboard replacement, without processors or anything? I still have them  ...  Thanks for considering, Hein

Answer:Bios update failed

try to remove the ram, and restart the laptop without it, does it make noise??? The CPU is fixed onto the motherboard and the X61 replacement motherboard is pretty expensive.

Failed a BIOS update. I have attempted a BIOS recovery via key pressess. It alooks like it is attempting the update, but freezes with the caps lock key flashing and emiting a series of 3 beeps. 4 times. The caps lock key  remains flashing and the screen is frozen with the remains of BIOS recovery data.I have attempted BIOS recovery using an external USB stick using the HP program. This unfortunately kills the machine (windows 10) that I am using to make the recovery drive.

Hello,I got a bluescreen while updating my bios. This is bad because warranty is only 12 months...I wonder if there is a way to flash bios again. I have read that on some laptops there isthe possibility to boot from usb floppy by pressing a key combination (for a hp its fn+b) evenwhen bios is dead. But guess, it didnt work for my thinkpad. Of course i have tried othercombinations but without success. Maybe someone knows the key combination or a way to recover bios(except for replacing the mainboard, i would rather buy a new laptop). I have also read that maybe it would be possible to boot if there is a boot block jumper sethttp://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-45385.htmlbut this is for desktop Lenovos only, i wonder if there is a boot block jumper on the r60 mainboard somewhere???  Regards,Thomas

heizi, welcome to the forum, there is unfortunately no boot block recovery for ThinkPads. Your best bet is to contact support on 01805 004618. Please let us know how you get on.

I updated the latest BIOS for Lenovo T61, it completed fine and update program asked to restart the system. So I did, but all I got was blank screen and when nothing. I waited about 5 minutes and after that I switched the laptop off and tried to turn power on but now it doesn't power up at all. The laptop is totally dead. Is there any hardware kind of reset in these that I can try or is the only option to send it to service?

I have a Acer Aspire 3100 I just replaced the lcd on it, and I was just about to update the BIOS in windows I started closing the applications and the computer froze, I never even clicked start bios update. So I restarted the computer, and than the display never came up ever again, I thought the lcd might have went bad or something I hooked it up to a external monitor but no screen, but the computer runs. I believe that bios update did start somehow and it failed What do I do now? Is this laptop garbage now?

Answer:Bios update failed now what?

I wouldn't think it's garbage if the BIOS update truly didn't start. How far does the computer go when it's hooked up to an external monitor? Do you hear start up sounds, does the POST display?

My machine was originally Windows 7 Home Premium and then when Windows 8 came out, I bought a license for 8.1 Pro. Updated the FW since then to F.26A and no issues at all. Now Windows 10 came out, updated it to the new OS, put an SSD to give it more grant, added memory and made it 16GB now running on a Micron 256SSD.  Recently, Windows 1607 came out, I had the update and noticed my internal webcam doesn't work. I thought of updating anything I can find and saw a new firmware release F.27. Downloaded it, run the executable, looks very promising and then on reboot it stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If there was a way to do it using a USB than via Windows executable, i may have done it but it is too late.  Can you please help me restore / recover my laptops BIOS? Now, if I turn on my laptop, the screen is blank and I can only see the WiFi led is lit, in orange. I tried the Windows + B key too, and if I do that I can see the caps lock blinking twice goes off, Wifi led is still lit in orange and then after a few seconds caps lock blinks again. I am sooo desperate to get this fixed again and i dont want to throw this away.  Can someone in HP please help or anyone who has the experience to restore / recover my BIOS?  I have downloaded sp77669.exe and sp66782.exe, followed the steps http://support.hp.com/nz-en/document/c02693833 but it doesn't give me the next step to extract it to USB, it just runs and tries to attempt to run the ins... Anyone know what gives?:confused

I was wondering if i really need this update. on the update it says only this about the update for dual cores

Answer:BIOS update failed

I don't think you need the update. It sounds like it just fixes a quirk in their diagnostic program not in the way BIOS sees your processor. It also looks like it is only listed under XP 32bit OS. All other OS selections show no BIOS update so it can't be that important.

I think I would skip it since it acted so strangely the first time you ran the .exe.

Lamps numlock, capslock, disk activity and briefly turn on and immediately off. Omly lamp to the left of battery lamp stays on. There is nothing on screen and no disk activity is heard. Question: Failed Bios Update

Hey all,Fuji Amilo pi1536 laptop with a Phoenix bios. Was updating bios yesterday and it got to erasing block 14/17 and it just powered off. (windows based flash, with the bios update recommended on the fuji site for my lappy)Now when pressed on the power, caps, number lock, scroll lock and hdd activity lights come up and last for about 3 seconds before the laptop switches off and turns back on and repeats the cycle again and again until ac power and or battery is removed. Is this normal for a failed bios update as this is my first!!!! :(Have tried the phoenix crisis recovery floppy and it just starts to read the floopy before turning off.Fuji say i have to replace my mobo and i have been mega unfortunate that something has gone wrong during a flash, but surely if the mobo was dead it wouldnt power up?Get no display, no beeps no post nothing but do get power!!Anybody had a failed bios update and can tell me if this behaviour is normal? Many thanks

Answer:Failed Bios Update

That's why a BIOS flash is always a last resort a failed flash results in a scrap motherboard.Remove all power from laptop, AC, battery pack and CMOS battery.Hold power button for 30 seconds to get rid of static and discharge all capacitors.USE CMOS clera jumper if available on your bord see manual.Reconnect CMOS battery and mains and try to run the crisis floppy again.

Hi, For reasons I deeply regret I attempted to flash BIOS on an Acer netbook with the wrong BIOS as it turned out.
I've tried Acer's crisis disk facility with the correct version of BIOS on a usb stick at boot up (pressing Fn Esc) but no go.
The boot up gets as far as the Windows XP splash screen then I get the BSOD. It won't start in safe mode either, although I can get into the BIOS. I read somewhere that taking out the cmos battery will reset bios to default but can't get the keyboard out to expose the m/board anyway.

Is there anything left to try before I relegate the netbook to a paperweight.

Hi! Not long time ago, I've updated BIOS of my ThinkCentre M90 (5474-W2U) to version 5JKT58AUS. When I updated BIOS from Windows 7, I could boot computer only with recovery BIOS (if it's called that). I called local service provider for help as the computer is covered by warranty. They've successfully repaired BIOS from CD but they had to enter product and serial numbers because they had been erased by BIOS update from Windows 7. After that, they tried to see what had gone wrong, and found out that the problem was with selecting "Program All Blocks" for BIOS update. When this setting is checked, the product and serial numbers are being erased. They said that Lenovo doesn't cover this with warranty because it is "a user error", although BIOS is updated with official BIOS update. Is it true that Lenovo warranty doesn't cover this? Kresimir

Question: Failed BIOS update

I downloaded the latest BIOS update (version 3.09-1.03 released 2009/10/6) and burned it to a CD as an ISO since I'm running an x64 system. Rebooted and the BIOS utility started up. It beeped two times in the middle of the update, which I knew was a bad sign, but then displayed a message saying it had finished anyway. A window showed up saying to go ahead and remove the CD and reboot, which it won't do now. All I get now when I try to turn it on is the AC plug light and circled Z light. Hd spins for like 1 second, screen doesn't come on at all. Guess I have to send it in, right? Hate that it's messed up for now though since I can't send it in for another 2 months or so and I really needed it right now.

Answer:Failed BIOS update

Maybe you need to load default configuration, as instructed in the readme file, shown below: INITIALIZING BIOS  BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS  settings:  1. Turn off the computer.  2. Turn on the computer.  3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button"     message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.     The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears,     type the correct password.  4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration.  5. Select Yes.  6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit.  7. Select Yes.  8. Restart the computer.  Note:  After initialization you may need to reapply some settings that you had  changed previously.

Hello,I was updating my BIOS today on my T61 and everything went fine and I was asked to reboot.  But when I rebooted all I heard was 2 short beeps and nothing else.  Now the laptop won't boot at all and the screen stays blank.  I think the BIOS was not updated properly.  I have been checking out the boot block jumper posts but they seem to be only for NetVista or ThinkCentre.  Is there any way of recovering from this condition on the T61?  Thank you.

Answer:BIOS update failed!

This is very bad news. You might of and most likely messed up your BIOS. You might need to buy a new motherboard which is very expensive. I'm not 100% sure though. According to what you described I think that is the problem.

Question: Failed BIOS Update

On several occasions HP Support Assistant has notified a BIOS upgrade available.  All have churned for a while, then reported that the update was unsuccesfull. I find this alarming to say the least, as BIOS updates are both critical, and potentially disastrous. Can you tell me why you keep on submitting updates that do not work? Should I bother to keep on trying to install them, or just consign them directly to the trash bin? This is a relatively new (this year) PC, and I find this severely undermines my confidence in the technical abilities of HP as a hardware provider. Windows 10ADSL then Ethernet cable (not wifi)18Meg down/1Meg upOS and Drivers kept up to date

Hello Everyone I've got Lenovo 3000 N200 model 0769 - BMG. The laptop worked fine for two years on the same windows. It needed new OS due to loots of errors and etc. I've installed fresh copy of XP pro and things stated to crash. So I though I install the new Windows 7 (7600) 32-bit. Everything worked fine for few days and then BIOS stated to crash. Just like that! When I was turning the laptop on it was hauled on the white screen with Leno and Intel sign beeping all the time. It required time or pressing the button to go further. I've tried few tricks like restarting the setting in the bios and on the jumpers on the motherboard but nothing worked.  The laptop was preowned so I didn't know how old is it so I decided to update the bios. I used the software from lenovo which does it for you no problem. Downloaded and run as administrator software was working (went to 4 out of 17 stages) laptop was plugged into the mains and fully charged. Then Windows crashed! Properly. I wasn't even able to turn it off with the power button! Held it for ages with no response. The only way was to remove the battery. Now the laptop turns on when you press the power button but the screen doesn't display anything. You can hear the CPU fan working normally but nothing else. Also I am able to turn it off with the power button If I hold it for few seconds. I know the BIOS is corrupted. Does anyone know what to do with it? Is it possible to fix? How? Or Whe... Read more
