Preferred Solution: Can't Disable Active protection in 360 Total Security!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can't Disable Active protection in 360 Total Security!

Your English is fine.

Something is wrong as you should have two buttons on your first image (Exit and Stay Protected). Try the following. In an admin account open 360 Total Security settings. Under the General tab uncheck the box next to 360 Self Protection. You will need to scroll to the bottom as it's the last setting. Open Task Manager and under the Processes tab highlight QHSafeTray and end the process. It will be a bit before the 360 icon in the system tray will no longer be present.

Try installing the program. To restore 360 Total Security you can either reboot or double click the desktop icon.

I started off with pop ups regarding Total Security spyware wanting me to purchase the product, I was unable to run AVG. I finally got Malwarebytes Anti Malware to download and run by naming it mbamm.exe. It found 21 infected items and I removed them all, included in that list was Rogue Total Security and Rogue Protection System. I had to reboot to finish the removal and when it booted up everything seemed fine, I was able to run AVG and AVG found a Virus in svchost called Win32/Cryptor. It would not heal it, the computer was shut down and left overnight. Once I booted up this morning all the pop ups began again except this time its my Security Center saying virus protection not found and protection system will pop up for me to download. Also, continues to pop screens that tell me certain virus are found like Email-Worm Win32NetSky.q and Win32Hala.a

I run malwarebytes and it finds the same 8 items every time I remove them and reboot and same things happens over and over again.

Finds Trojan Agent in 2 files and Memory Module
Rogue Coreguard
Roge Protection System
Malware Trace
Hijack Windows Update

Please HELP!! I have tried everything I can think of short of wiping the hard drive.

Answer:Protection System/Total Security

Nevermind, I tried everything under the sun so I just did a factory restore. Thanks anyways

Total Security Protection Center keeps popping up again and again. I've tried to remove it and it keeps coming back; can't be removed with normal "Change/Remove" on the control panel. I found bleepingcomputer on a Google search and followed all the instructions that led to downloading something to shut it off and then downloading Malwarebytes' program that seemed to remove some stuff, but not this problem. Still there. The last item said that if still a problem to go through these steps to post the problem. Hoping this will help and appreciate your time. Will now follow the steps to post the txt files that were created and hope I get those on correctly.

Hi guys, I'm using since few days 360 TS. I think is a very good AV solution. Just I wanna know from you if the Adblock plus addon with Malware domains list filter enabled in firefox could interfere somehow with the 360 TS plugin and 360 Internet Protection plugin. Can i keep enabled both?
Other questions is: how useful is having both BitDefender and Avira engines activated? This can slow down my pc?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:360 Total Security Protection and AdBlock Plus plugin

Enabling Bitdefender and Avira Engine doesn't slow system down, but it raises memory usage up to 180 MB. I had 360 addon and ABP and i didn't had any issues.

Two days ago, I was able to change wcscvc.eve to .jpeg and also change bravaix or delete it right before I got this partial log before it froze me. The 2 successful log in attempts I had today froze my computer with an endless thinking glass when I tried to access Mozilla and the Netscape. Unfortunately, I was unable to do what else Blade Zephon asked of me. On a positive note, I can access my files in my computer and my taskbar.UPDATE: I was able to actually get it up in safe mode in networking and run Win32k!Below in the picture: The weird error I see when I actually get the cpu to start.

Hello thrax44, and welcome to BleepingComputer.com! I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up. The TDSS Trojan Horse is a backdoor/rootkit trojan. Such a piece of malware allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.Rootkits and backdoor trojans are very dangerous because they compromise system integrity by making changes that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes. Rootkits are used by Trojans to conceal its presence (hide from view) in order to prevent detection of an attacker's software and make removal more difficult. Many rootkits can hook into the Windows 32-bit kernel, and patch several APIs to hide new registry keys and files they install. They can disable your antivirus and security tools to prevent detection and removal. Remote attackers use backdoors as a means of accessing and taking control of a computer that bypasses security mechanisms. This type of exploit allows them to steal sensitive information like passwords, personal and financial data which is send back to the hacker. To learn more about these types of infections, you can refer to: What danger is presented by rootkits? Anybody know which one is overall better, Mcafee Total Protection 2010 or Avast Internet Security pro?My Mcafee subscription ends soon so i am looking for any good deals i can find on anti-virus software. I noticed that Mcafee brought their price down on their Total Protection 2010 to $39.99 (3 user license, 1 year), which is cheap! Although, i found a better deal on Avast Internet Security pro, which was $99.95 (3 user license, 3 years). So this comes down to the main question, Which one should i buy?? Thank you in advance!

Answer:Mcafee Total Protection vs. Avast Internet Security

Personally I would go for one of the freeware options.

Hello. You have an active rootkit on your machine. With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team. Please read the information about getting started. After you have followed the steps in that guide, I would like you to start a new thread HERE and include a link to this thread. It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. The HJT team is very busy, so it could be several days before you receive a reply. But rest assured, help is on the way!Due to the nature of this infection it is likely that you will be unable to run traditional scanning utilities or run a full scan with RootRepeal as directed in the Preparation Guide linked above. If this is the case, you should still create your new thread in the HJT forum, but instead of DDS and full RootRepeal logs you should post your partial RootRepeal log (the one you just generated for me), as well as a log generated by this special utility. Note that the utility takes some time to run, so don't worry if it appears that nothing is happening.Sorry I couldn't do more for you here; they'll be able to help in HJT.~Blade

1) Is Norton Internet Security worth having?
2) Does it conflict with Emsis Antimalware?
I have to hand McAfee Total Security that I could use instead - Any suggestions?
Currently I have four PC's running McAfee and Antimalware side by side>

Every time I do the one key systems restore, it all my pictures and other documents. I would like to know how to avoid this. I have even tried systems restore to another date but it never completes because my antivirus is still running. How do I temporally shut down BitDefender?

Answer:how to temporary disable bitdefender total security 2013

Why are you constantly doing restores? Get rid of Bit Defender & just enable Windows Defender instead. It's built into Win8 however most computer manufacturers (Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc) disable it & load some crappy trial security software (McAfee, Norton, etc) because they get a kickback. How to activate Windows Defender in Windows 8

I found the Total Security fake security portal on my desktop. I was able to remove it initially by renaming task manager and killing the process + deleting the program file, although it has since returned. Norton AV 2006 will not scan, cannot run any malware removal scans e.g. MBAM. Cannot run in safe mode I get a psuedo blue screen of death. Google links are redirected and many security related sites are blocked.

I tried following the instructions to prepare for my post however it appears that the virus is blocking execution of the DDS and RootRepeal scans. I attempted to follow removal instructions from threads as it appears this is a common issue but always get stopped at downloading/running MABE and the rename option does not appear to work. I've gone as far as I can without supervision. I worked with garmanma in another forum and after trying several log options the only one that would work was a WIN32kDiag - see below. He asked me to state that this is the only log I could run.

Remove Security Protection (Uninstall Guide)
What is Security Protection ?

Security Protection is a malicious software that will display virus alerts, also known as ?scareware?, claiming malware has been detected on your computer.
The security alerts are professional looking pop-ups and when you click on them, you?re advised to buy this malicious software in order to remove the detected threats.
In reality, none of the issues are real, and are only used to scare you into buying this malicious software and stealing your personal financial information. To make matters worse, this malicious software actually installs malicious code that puts you at risk of attack from additional threats.

You may find this malicious program under the name of :

Hello,I recently encountered what I believe to be a spyware/trojan problem on my laptop which is running Windows XP. The problem started about a week ago when a fake security alert came across my desktop saying "Attention! System has encontered a potentional problem..." I ran Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware (I already had these programs installed). These both removed a number of problems. I also have McAfee anti-virus software running. I also ran a scan with this. As of now the fake desktop alerts are gone, however, when I run a Google search and click on a result, I am redirected to some random website. I also have tried to reboot my computer in safemode but when I do this the screen gets hung up on the follow driver and goes no further:Multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)parition(2)WINDOWS\System32\Mup.sysDDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Tiffany at 16:38:16.95 on Sat 01/09/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_13Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.502.141 [GMT -6:00]AV: McAfee VirusScan *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {84B5EE75-6421-4CDE-A33A-DD43BA9FAD83}FW: McAfee Personal Firewall *enabled* {94894B63-8C7F-4050-BDA4-813CA00DA3E8}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcsC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k WudfServiceGrou... Hi guys and girls

I've just come back from a long-weekend holiday and my PC has been overrun by spyware while I was away (grr family)

Anyways, I get these random balloon tips popping up saying things like my antivirus is out of date, i have 9 virus', etc and my desktop is taken over by a blue screen with some details of my PC.

More annoying is that the settings on the PC have essentially been locked down, I cant access the registry, clear IE history, change the desktop, etc.

So I am a bit stuck.

I have attached the HijackThis logs and hopefully someone smarter than me can help.

Cheers guys

Hi Seano82,

Welcome to Tech Support Forums!

If you are still having malware problems, I will be glad to help.

First of all, please rename HijackThis.exe to HJT1991.exe. This is because I suspect that your system may have a Vundo infection that is hiding some entries from HijackThis.

NEXT:

BEFORE BEGINNING, Please read completely through the instructions below. Please also print these instructions or copy them to Notepad (or another word processor), and save it for easier reference. This is because we will be in Safe Mode during the fix and you won?t be able to access the Internet to view these instructions.

You will need to keep Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer (including My Computer) closed throughout the entire process.

Hi im having a problem with macAffe total protection.
I came in monday morning and and found the an alert message from interent explorer
"Content within this application coming from the Web site listed below is being blocked by Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration. myui://VirFound.htm" , i think this is part of McAffee but am only guessing so i don't want to allow it. so i just close it and don't allow. Then i get a message "one or more active X controls cannot be displayed because of security settings", so i press ok and then i get the original message again so i close it and try to do a scan.

When i try to do a scan with McAffee its says Memory infected scan aborted

I've done scans with ad-aware and windows defender but with no joy. only tracking cookies found one of which was MacAffee "Cookie:[email protected]~~local~~/C:/Program%20Files/Network%20Associates/McAfee%20GroupShield/ui/0409/

Any help would be greatly appreciated

In another forum, it has been requested that I run ComboFix which of course requires all AV products to be disabled.

I had McAfee Total Protection installed but it lapsed due to the contract expiring while the PC was totally out and payment not being made.. I can open it but every function is greyed out so I cannot make changes.

I continually get pop ups reminding me that there is no coverage until payment is made; I assumed that meant that it is disabled.

When I ran combofix, it said that McAfee AV and McAfee anti spyware are running but combofix will continue although the results will not be reliable.

Is there another way to "disable" McAfee? Stopping processes? Stopping services?

Thanks for any assistance.

For quite a while i was having a dodgy file that i couldn't delete.
That file was: C:\Documents and Settings\ERIC\Local Settings\Temp\rvjrhqkz.dat. I did try to remove it in safe mode using several file unlockers but the file was very persistent. There were no obvious other probs with my computer so i didnt take any further measures and just left the file staying there. That was up to recently when "total virus protection" appeared out of nowhere in my computer. And at the same time i also noticed another persistent file that I cannot delete: C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmconfigf.dll (Trojan.BHO.H) .
There were around 4-5 registry key entries affiliated with them also locked.
This was an obvious problem and since then my access to the internet has been VERY unstable. I keep getting disconnected every few minutes. I believe the longer i managed to be online continuously without getting disconnected for the past 4-5 days was around 10 minutes...
I believe I managed to remove(using information found in your site) Total Virus Protection but that didnt solve my connection probs, nor has improved them to the slightest.
I am fairly confident my computer is still infected with malicious software and these are the cause for this, as my other computer that shares the same wireless connection it gets online with no problems at all.

Since yesterday i followed all the initial steps u propose and i attached the logs u ask. (Some of the logs are before i completely ... Read more

This test aims to compare the effectiveness of the most recent releases of popular security suites. These programs typically include anti-virus and firewall features alongside a collection of other utilities and services.

A total of 12 products were exposed to genuine internet threats that real customers could have encountered during the test period. Crucially, this exposure was carried out in a realistic way, reflecting a customer's experience as closely as possible. For example, each test system visited genuinely infected websites and downloaded pages, exploits and malicious files exactly as an average user would.

We also tested how each product handled legitimate applications. These were downloaded from Download.com or the original site as directed by Download.com. The popularity of each program was taken into account.

Products are awarded marks for detecting real threats and providing adequate protection. Points are deducted for failing to protect the system and for falsely condemning legitimate software.

Answer:total pc protection" malware please help!

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may... Read more

Installation is very quick and easy.

Taking up to 35-40 MB RAM when idle.
Quick scan nearly takes 5 mins.

Firewall is easily configurable.

Interface is very simple. I guess its because its a beta version. Mcafee total protection 2009 has a different GUI altogether.

Will check on the detections and heuristics later.

Overall a very nice product. But can slow down old computers.
Nevertheless, if you've got 4 GB RAM, would you mind giving 40-50 MB towards security?
Dinesh.

Hello,The infected computer is running Windows XP SP2. My father?s computer has become infected with what I believe is the rouge-ware known as ?Total Virus Protection.? He opened the file, so it has become active, but he did not buy the fake software. The symptoms include a significant slowdown in running programs, and non-stop pop-ups advising that I buy the program and claiming that the system is failing. There is also a fake button in the start bar, which came with a fake windows alert. In addition to these issues, I have also been unable to start the task-manager through any means. It has been completely disabled and the system does not recognize the account as an administrator. All of these problems also are apparent in Safe-Mode. When I ran my virus scanner, Asquared, it detected over 30 viruses that had come in with it and removed them. However, my scanner has been unable to remove ?Total Virus Protection.? In addition to the DDS log I am also including a HJT log. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and help me out. You are the best. Answer:Infected with 'Total Virus Protection'

This computer is heavily infected, including variants of Infostealer.Banker.C, Backdoor.IRC.Zapchast and Infostealer.Ldpinch.I am sorry to inform you that one or more of the identified infections on your system is a Backdoor Trojan.Backdoor Trojans are the most dangerous and most widespread type of Trojan. Backdoor Trojans provide the author or "master" of the Trojan with remote "administration" of victim machines. Unlike legitimate remote administration utilities, they install, launch and run invisibly, without the consent or knowledge of the user. Once installed, Backdoor Trojans can be instructed to send, receive, execute and delete files, harvest confidential data from the computer, log activity on the computer and more.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation. In addition to the Backdoor Trojans that have been identified, your computer is afflicted with multiple other infections. Although we can make an attempt to clean this machine, we cannot guarantee that it will be secure afterwards. Your best and safest course of action is a reformat and reinstallation of the Windows operating system. If you do decide to attempt cleaning ... Read more

Came home today and opened my laptop. Found that my homepage opened very slowly. Tried to enter another site and found that it would not open. Tried another then a third - same results. Glanced down at the bottom right of the screen and noticed that my McAfee shield was gone. Looked for it - nowhere to be found.

Went in through startup and found it that way. Ran a scan - but found nothing. Still Real-time Scanning not working. Tried to turn it on - it immediately kicked off. Tried again - kicked off again. Still have time remaining on my subscription.

Deleted browsing history also.

Have now opened up into safe mode and contacting you that way. Thanks.

Answer:McAfee Total Protection Shut Down

Hello,
I will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while I assist you.
Some points for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us
Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs,  unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.

Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post.

Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process.

Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.

Windows XP OS,
I was helping a friend who had continuos Mcaffee pop up errors that would not clear. These occurred on start up and his subscription had expired so we went to Mcaffee and downloaded Total Protection 2010. Now after booting up the following appears:
"ActiveShield is either not installed or is installed correctly. Reinstall". We are able to click the "OK" button and it disappears. The Mcaffee Security Center is all green, protection is on but the message continues to come up on restart.
We uninstalled all other Malware detection programs, still no joy. uninstalled all AOL software (they don't use it) Now the message still appears AND on shutdown A Shutdown Message comes up and says "Mcaffee Firewall Plus Alert is shutting down.........."
then the "program is not responding, and we have to click "End Now". Restart and the other message reappears. I downloaded Mcaffee "Virtual Technician" and it made a couple of "registry corrections" but this didn't help and subsequent checks with it didn't reveal any problems.

Help!!

In June I started receiving popups from fake security and antivirus programs, and when I would try to go to certain websites it would redirect me to the spyware's website. I realized I had Malware so I downloaded the Windows Live Onecare and also the Malwarebytes' Anti Malware programs after reading a few forums online. Upon using the Malwarebytes program it seemed to take care of the problem and I didn't have the fake spyware popping up anymore. I ran a second scan and it found no harmful items. Windows Live seems like it doesn't do anything useful..

Today I decided to run a scan because ever since I had those problems my computer lags really bad on startup and Firefox always freezes up at random times, although I have not been getting the spyware popups.
So I ran the scan today using Malwarebytes' and it said I have 5 threatening items. I clicked remove on the Malwarebytes program and then clicked yes to restart, but when my computer restarted I had the popups again! The program says it's "Total Virus Protection" although it looks somewhat different than screen shots I;ve seen of this virus on the internet. I don't know how the scan could make the popups start again but it seems that's what it did and now I realized that it probably never removed everything, even though my last scan with Malwarebytes' didn't detect anything. I scanned again and it said I had even more threatening items, now it was 14.

Windows Live Onecare also popped up saying it detected... Read more

Since I don't know what the problem is, I'm not sure where to post this...

I uninstalled McAfee Total Protection on my desktop and laptop because, while both were protected by McAfee, neither would "trust" the other on my home network. The reinstall on my laptop is working fine. The desktop is the problem.

A McAfee tier II tech took control of my desktop for over two hours, to no avail. He said the problem must be one or more Windows XP corrupt or missing files. He went though my registry and deleted all entries mentioning McAfee before his last reinstall attempt.

Via Microsoft's website, I confirmed my XP files contain all the latest updates.

Here's what else I've run:
chkdsk
sfc /scannow
Spybot S&D
Malwarebytes
McAfee's Virtual Technician, Preinstall, MGPR and Security Scan Plus programs
ParetoLogic's PC Health Advisor

I did discover and have eliminated about six bogus network adaptors (all with McAfee in the desriptors). They disappeared when I updated the drivers from a pop-up menu, which looked to be from McAfee. I am puzzled about this but don't know if it's relevant.

I really do want to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling Windows XP if at all possible.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Ron H

Answer:Can't Reinstall McAfee Total Protection on Windows XP

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but in my opinion (and the opinions of most knowledgeable folks), McAfee makes the absolute worst products you can use. Personally I'd install ANY other product.

Is anyone successfully running McAfee (or another AV) and Windows Defender at the same time?

Answer:McAfee Total Protection & Windows Defender

If the installation process for an AV app turns off (disables) Windows Defender, the you should not try to run Windows Defender with that particular AV app. There are a few AV apps that leave Windows Defender enabled.

I would suggest uninstalling McAfee Total Protection and using Microsoft Security Essentials or Panda. McAfee does not have a good reputation in these forums.

my hardrive is contiusly in use by the file mcnasvc.exe and/or mcmscsvc.exe which makes the PC run like crap. (this file has something to do with it, but i know its McAfee 2007)
when i disable it the pc runs great...

i'm told it shouldn't be disabled but i can't have it running i don't know if there is anybody else having this problem....

so i'm not sure what to do...

never had problems with 2006 mcafee....

Answer:Mcafee Total Protection 2007 Problem

mcnasvc.exe = McAfee Network Agent - required to run on startupmcmscsvc.exe = McAfee ServicesAlthough McAfee is as good as any other well known anti-virus program, it has become a resource hog that slows down your system especially if on dial-up or if installed on older systems without much RAM/slow CPU. McAfee requires numerous services and more than a dozen running files that use a lot of memory. Further McAfee products, like Symantec, are becoming difficult to remove. You may want to consider switching to another anti-virus program. See BC's Freeware Replacements For Common Commercial Apps.

I recently got McAfee Total Protection 10.0 and so far i like it better than Norton (which i had before).
But i would like to know if it is possible to set file exclusion filters for the On-Access scanner so that it is not constantly scanning my commonly used files. Whenever i build a project in Visual Studio, it seems to be running, scanning all those source code files. It seemed to slow down the compiler quite a bit.
I read that it uses heuristic algorithms to determine what programs you use often and i assume it means that McAfee would eventually ignore files used frequently by those programs as they are of little risk. But i'm not sure if that's what it actually does.
I use McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7 at work, and there is a way to set file exclusions there, but how do i do it in Total Protection 10.0? Is there even a way?

Greetings,I am trying to help a friend with some computer problems... I have worked on this PC before. It is a 1-2 year old Dell, owned by an elderly woman. Last year I uninstalled the factory-installed McAfee and installed AVG free 8.5? and did a general malware cleanout.A few weeks ago, I got a call that AVG wouldn't update. My McAfee Security system expired and I purchased the McAfee Total protection. When it installs, it states it is uninstalling older versions of McAfee software. It works fine for a few days, then when something updates and my computer is rebooted I get a message that my computer is at risk and my McAfee Security system is expired. I have to reinstall Total Protection every time.

Any ideas how I might resolve this issue? I don't know if it is a problem with the software or a setting in my computer.

Thanks!

Answer:Total Pc Protection Question Input required

An addition of the Win firewall or a freebie like Zonealarm would add another layer.  I'm not a big fan of the CCleaner, the registry is best left alone unless something happens with a peripheral or drivers get updated and the registry can get scrambled pretty quick.  Of course the ultimate solution would be to have it all backed up.

Hi

...now totally confused about which to use, or which ist the best deal for the money?
Right now i am using the trial version from Zone Alarm Internet Security,i like it - but it really slows my system down. I was also thinking about Bitdefender total security...since they offer a 30 day free trial version, or Internet Security Software 08.
I do like the idea of having a Security Suite, its kind of all in one , and i don"t have to hassle with x amount of programs ( still somewhat of a beginner).
I have read many ratings and reviews... just to confuse me more...seems as though depending on what webside you are looking (c/net, or pc world, or computer world...) each has its own favorite.

Can anyone help out?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Zone Alarm Security Suite versus Bitdefender Total Security

Howdy AstridG James,
I have been using Zone Alarm Security Suite for a couple of years now and find it very good. I also have SpywareBlaster,Ad-Aware 2007 Pro, Spybot Search n Destroy 1.5 and WinPatrol. All the programmes seem to be needed to find different things and although Zone Alarm seems to stop most and is a gr8 AV....never had any problems with it at all...the other programmes still find different things and all work well together.

Why Trustport total protection will prompt error message "Trustport core service is not running or other fatal error has occurred" and "you can wait trustport core service starts or you can close application"?

Answer:Why Trustport total protection will prompt error message??

They want you to run the "real time shield" function of the av. Windows Defender shows a similar msg in red if you don't have the real time shield active. I'd say the message was more marketing oriented than technical.

hi
now i have been told so many bad things about mcafee.
so now i will mention som advantages.
mcafee total protection 2011-12 has the highest detections rates on the marked pure and simple, the technology detects 99.9% of all known adware and spyware, and can actually remove the most of them without further notice.
for me personal total protection has eliminated at least 50 trojans the last 6 months,i browse some questionable sites now and then, most of the times simply to test the detection and removal rate and I have never seen anything like it.
i am protected to 23-11-2013 by mcafee.
thereafter i will consider my options, but mcafee handles trojans so efficient, and as everybody knows, that is the most common infection today,i have had pc for about 5 years now,and if you do not get infected with an real hardcore virus, witch is very unlikely, you can live a lifetime without actually get a real virus, and i mean black screen, and probably new drives as a result,i have realy been pressing my luck, and i have never been in contact with virus,so 23-11-13 i will renew my subscribtion with the very "bad boy" mcafee.and i could go on and on about features included.
downsides:yes there are two that i can think off, price and cpu-load when mcafee scan your sytem,in the pc world everything gets better all the time, and remarkely mcafee too i will only mention one improvement(there are many):scanning time i cut in half from 2011-12 that is some achivement dont you think. and now... Frankly, I wouldn't put anything McAfee on my computer even if someone was about to drop a stealth bomber on my head. And $ 130.00 for advanced trouble-shooting? Jeez, you get that here at MajorGeeks for free.

Also, I'll challenge your statement of McAfee having the highest detection rates. Every AV out there makes the same claim or no one would use them. They are middle-of-the-pack at best.

My pc was infected and restored factory settings. After I installed Mcafee total protection 2009, i found some strange entries in the firewall access program.
I was checking the firewall program permission (for the first time), when i found following strange entries,

Program Name File Name Permissions
(Program no longer exists) mcdetect.exe full permission
(program no longer exists) MVTX.exe full permission

There were around 10 entries likes this, MSKCLNT.exe, MCINFO.exe, MCUPDMGR.exe, MCVSESCN.exe, MCVSSHLD.EXE, MPFCONSOLE.exe, MPFSERVICE.exe, MPFTRAY.exe, MSKAGENT.EXE,MSKDETCT.EXE,MSKSRVR.EXE, WGATRAY.EXE.

All this seems to be Mcafee related entries. but why a freshly installed program would have strange entries? should i go ahead and remove the 'full permission' for this entries?
Also there is a startup entry (ran Hijackthis to see if my pc is clean), for which i couldn't find any details.

Hi
This is my friend's computer, Win XP media center with recovery console. He has a virus that kept starting up programs like "sentry total family protection" and interfered with starting up other programs, wouldn't let him go to any website other than some AOL page.

He claims his Norton Internet Security 2006 was up to date & active before the infection. But "Security is disabled."

Based on some advice I saw elsewhere *before finding this forum*, I ran ComboFix, which stopped the popups until I rebooted. On rebooting, the computer started the popups again. I ran combofix again, went into safe mode and uninstalled a bunch of games that apparently my friend installed just before these problems started, rebooted, and for now there are no popups. However when I try to "turn Security on" within NIS, the computer just reboots. So I'm sure there's still a virus.

Would appreciate advice
thanks

I recently inadvertently let in a virus that called itself XP Total Security. I am using Windows XP and was using Microsoft Security Essentials for Protection.OOPS!
After using another computer to search Bleeping Computer Forums, I managed to download RKill and Malwarebytes. I have ran both several times. Malwarebytes seems to remove the virus but when I re-boot it is back but with a different name. Now it is Windows Security Alerts. It has also hijacked by browser and will not let me do normal searches in my browser(Firefox) without re-directing to various other sites. I'm not sure what else to try. Now whatever the virus is - it is affecting non-web usage. While working on documents in Word or Excel, my computer will freeze and the only way I can move is to power down and then power back up.

I have also now tried Spybot and AVG. Even though they say they find trojans to remove - I am still having massive problems. Most of the time I can not log onto the internet and when I try to use System Restore - it either doesn't open or I get a pop up box that says System Recovery will not help me and then it exits. Dell Vostro 1500 laptop, XP2 SP3.

I use McAfee Total Protection Service (4.7.0.752 patch 4). Noticed recently that the Internet Application list in firewall properties was empty, clearly shouldn't be. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee OK, and the Internet Application list was now populated OK. This was about a week ago. Just checked again and the list is again empty.

This seems to be just the sort of thing Malware would do.

McAfee, Windows Defender & Malwarebytes all say all is well, and everything appears to be running normally, but I am very suspicious. Is this a known symptom? Can you advise a course of action?

I bought, downloaded and ran McAfee Total Protection 2010 on Windows 7, which caused a blue screen (BSOD) error. I tried several times with the same result. McAfee acknowledged it as an unresolved issue. Are there any other security programs worth considering instead, or do they all suffer from the same problem?

Answer:McAfee Total Protection 2010 Windows 7 blue screen

I had exactly the same problem, and even tried with a fresh installation of Windows 7. The BSOD error was BUGCODE_NDIS_DRIVER. It also prevented windows restarting and required running the repair utility. I had the same problem with Zonealarm, but have found Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2010 v9 works fine, so I am using a trial version of that for now. Let's hope McAfee sort the probelm soon.

Have put the Gdata Total protection on a laptop. Server at Gdata rejecting free activation. Been a user of Gdata earlier product, didn't have that problem. Mag says activation expiry is 14 Jan 2015.

Answer:Gdata Total protection 2015 PCA233 activation failure.

hi,
you will probably find that the trial will have been dis-allowed because of your earlier trial; most vendors tend to do this to prevent users from continually installing/using/uninstalling and then install again to provide what is in effect free cover. The only way that I know to succeed would be to do a re-install then register with a different e-mail.I know that Gdata are in particular "tight" in this respect.
Hope this helps,
Steve

System crashes any time I attempt to move the laptop when not plugged in.  Overly sensitive and almost impossible to use in mobile format.

Answer:T61 - Testing Active Protection (APS)

Welcome to the forum.

You can easily adjust the sensitivity of APS. Double-click the APS icon on the system tray to bring up the property sheet as below:

Hello :-) I have a question (and I should mention that I haven't got much experience with computer stuff ;-) ):I really need the Active Protection System for my notebook (R61i, windows 7), but version 1.71 (the only available one on the support site) just works with 64-bit. Does anybody know, whether or when there is a new version for 32-bit?Thank you very much!Ellen PS: Sorry for my bad English...

Answer:Active Protection System

Hi Ellen and welcome to the forum, You can find the 32 bit version for Windows 7 here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-53150 You could also download and install Lenovo System Update:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-73695.html System Update will check for new drivers and software from Lenovo for your computer and give you a list where you can choose what you want to download and install and it will be installed for you without having to download and install each one of then manually. It should also give you the option to download and install Active Protection System. It's also a nice tool to check for new versions of the drivers and Lenovo software for your computer. -gan

Hi,   I have an X60 Thinkpad and when I rebooted, I got the following error, "Active protection is not functioning as system detected the abnormal sensor status.  To diagnose the sensor device, run PC DOCTOR DOS - HDD Active Protection Test and if it still shows, contact Help and Service for repair."   The only problem is, my laptop only came installed with PC Doctor 5 for Windows and when I run it, I can't find any way to test the Active Protection System.  Help!

After getting my new Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB drive working with my X60 Thinkpad (1706-M7M) running XP Pro, I noticed that the HDD active protection system has disabled itself. Is it not compatible with my new drive?

Answer:X60 HDD Active Protection System

You have two accelerometers now! Your ThinkPad has one (Active Protection), and so does your new hard drive (Seagate G-Force). I don't have personal experience with this, but it's possible the Seagate G-Force software disabled Active Protection. You may be able to re-enable it and run both in parallel. I have no idea how they interact. Either one should be sufficient to protect the drive. Perhaps someone with experience could chime in?

Is it good to be running the APS or is it only needed if I ever drop the computer? Why are there two different beeps, one is louder and longer, the other short and quiet.......... whats the difference between them? Its weird because I only had one of the beeps for about a month and a half. And can I run APS but turn off the beep (dont recall seeing an option for this)? It beeps a LOT on the less sensitive setting even.. even being gentle picking it up...

Answer:Active protection system

The APS parks your hdd head when you accidentally drop it, while the resting hdd can usually take 240 to 400 g shock, a working hdd with the head assembly reading the platter usually can take 50 g, which is equivalent to 1 m fall. However, it depends on the angle of drop so a failure of the hdd is possible even you drop it at 20 cm. The head assembly is only around 0.1 mm from the platter, and any scratches to the platter will cause irreversible damages to the data. Regarding the beep, i am not so sure.

So I found this as I was trying to find out how to send a false positive to McAfee Avert Labs and was intrigued so I tried it.

McAfee Active Protection

I was first puzzled by its description so I googled it and found out it was actually the Artemis Technology. Here's the article I read about from McAfee:

McAfee, Inc. Reinvents Computer Security

After reading that I was so impressed and tried it. I was not contented of how McAfee secures my PC so I needed to find a way to boost it's protection. When the installation was completed I downloaded some fresh Malware from the Malwarebytes forum and was surprisingly startled as how McAfee blocked off almost every malware I downloaded. I accept any criticism from anybody who hates McAfee but I was proven that I might stick with this one for a while. I am open to any opinions on what I have found.

Answer:McAfee Active Protection

If I can remember correctly, in newer versions of Mcafee Security centre you should already have Artemis preinstalled. And have settings where you configure it (on that install you were talking about, you can't configure it), So there shoulnd't be any need to additionally install it.
But I can't remember clearly. Maybe they have implemented Artemis only for some products.
But I don't think so, I think all McAfee now have Artemis preinstalled eventhough they don;t have configurations.

Artemis is very good addition to McAfee but it's is known for it's relatively high false positives rate.
Basically, Artemis is cloud scanner. If scanner detects something suspicious it will send it to the cloud scan and scan it there.
Detctions from Artemis will be called Artemis! and some new generated number or something like this. So actually you will know that it was detected by Artemis.
