Any reasonable alternative to WWAN EM7345 for T440...

Question: Any reasonable alternative to WWAN EM7345 for T440...

Hi, I've planned to buy a good LTE WWAN adapter for my T440 recently, but going though many negative opinions on officially supported EM7345 I think it's point less to spend many on it. I really like EM7455 but I am sure I will fall into the problem with "unsupported WWAN card ..." which I know I can work around, but would prefer a clean solution instead. Is there any good alternative to EM7345 for T440 to get it working out of the box? Ideal would be official BIOS with EM7455 enabled in BIOS whitelist, which I believe is unlikely.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have fitted the Sierra EM7345 module to my T440 to get 4G mobile coverage, and this works fine. But the EM7345 also contains a GNSS sensor, which should give GPS position data.In device manager, this sensor is displayed as working correctly, but how can I establish the actual GPS coverage, e.g. number of satelliites received, signal strenght, position accuracy etc?I'm running W10 build 10586.

I have a T440 with Sierra LTE. It works just fine for connecting to mobile networks. But here in New Zealand, one of our providers also provides free wifi hotspots to customers on certain plans. In order to use this though, I have to enter a password that is sent to me by SMS.Is there any way that I can view SMS messages sent to the SIM card that is inside my laptop? At the moment, I have to remove the SIM from my ThinkPad (with all the hassle that involves), stick it into my phone, get the password, then transfer the SIM card back into my ThinkPad (and often as not, there is no power socket nearby, so I can't restart because I had to disable the internal battery when removing/replacing the SIM card). So, if someone can point to a way that I can simply view those SMS messages on my ThinkPad, I will be enernally grateful.

Use Lenovo Access Connections if OS on your laptop is win7, or Sierra Watcher connection manager for both OS, win7/8.

I bought EM7345 WWAN card from ebay, and have installed it in my X1 carbon (20BS type), the device is not getting recognized by my machine and after a lot of reading, I found the issue to be incorrect VID (0000) and PID (0002) on the card, does this mean this card is bricked and cannot be recovered? the card shows up as unknown usb device in device manager, before I return the card I want to check if there is any way to correctly re-initialize/re-flash this card, I found that this card will not be supported by Sierra Wireless so posting in lenovo forum. please help or point me to right support personnel.

Question: T440 WWAN?

How do I tell if my laptop has the WWAN card without taking it apart? Also, is there a slot for another SSD inside the laptop? like a m.2?

Go to Solution.

Answer:T440 WWAN?

Welcome, Pcloke1231. There might be two m.2 slots for small SSD, 22x42 mm in size- double sided, in the wwan+ssd combo slot- single sided, in the separate m.2 slot (if it's present in the certain laptop model with smart card reader)T440 platform pecification To make sure wwan card is installed or laptop is "wwan ready" only (i.e.has the SIM card reader and wwan antennas installed), provide, please, laptop MTM code. Or, if it's a CTO model, laptop serial number (the latter - via the forum private service)Note, if the wwan card is installed, enabled in the BIOS Setup, you should see appropriate item in the Device Manager (Network adapters category) or in the "Another devices" category if the drivers aren't installed.

Hi Guys, I've got a Lenovo ThinkPad X61s 7669-3KG L7500(1.6GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 12.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel X3100, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, Intel Turbo Memory, 4c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32 which is a non-WWAN laptop, although it has a built-in slim card slot. Now, I'm wondering if this particular notebook can be upgraded to WWAN? If yes - which parts must I buy?Do I have to have only 3G modem card or any additional antennas or slots? Please let me know.Radek

Answer:X61s-non WWAN upgrade to WWAN

It really depends on if your system has antennas for WAN. If so, there will be two wires that look like the ones plugged into the wireless LAN card except they will be marked one red and one blue. If you have them, you can look in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the part numbers of the cards for this system.

I custom ordered my X200 and it got delivered yesterday. When you go to the X200 customizing, it already shows that it comes with AT&T 3G. Anyways, I call tech support yesterday, and they were useless. They couldn't even find my order in the system. I was on the train, so I couldn't open the keyboard at the moment, but I did when I got home and didnt see any WWAN card, but I wasn't exactly sure of what i was looking for. Anyways, the box it came in has the configuration on the outside. I took a pic with my iPhone, so its crap - no macro settings - but if you can somehow read the blur, the 3rd option down is AT&T 3G. There is also "WWAN Misc Part", "WWAN Misc Parts", and "ATT Option". So I'm assuming it comes with the built in hardware. It came with an AT&T 3G sim card already in the machine. However, the machine isn't detecting the hardware. FN+F5 only shows wifi & bluetooth. I go into the bios, and I don't see a WWAN option anywhere. I read somewhere that one guy had to update his bios to get it to show/work. I'm assuming my bios would already be updated though. Did they just not install the hardware? I figured I would get better support here before calling them again

Answer:X200 & AT&T 3G WWAN...Not detecting wwan

I have an X200 with AT&T WWAN and it works fine. A couple of things to check: My configuration shows = 42X6331 L1 WWAN Intg AT&T (3G); 42V8251 L1 COPT AT&T USA; 43Y3864 L! COPT WWAN MiscPartsIn the Thinkvantage - Mobile Broadband Connect - you should get a screen that has a "sign up" button and a "close" button. With the wireless power switch "on" (switch on left side of laptop) click the "signup" button. It will check the status of your card. If you have not signed up for service, it will NOT show you any signal strength, you must sign up for the service and the network has to put the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) of your card into the system for it to work. Do not try and use the AT&T Communications Manager software because it will not work with the Ericsson radio in the laptop. Just my experience.

Question: T440s with EM7345

I've got a T440s running windows 7 with a em7345 4g mobile module installed, the drivers install correctly and it recongnises the sim but fails to find the network (upon trouble shooting the connection windows suggests that there is no signal, however my phone uses the same network so I know this to not be the case). My best guess so far is that it's either something to do with the apn settings (I'm based in the UK and use the giffgaff mobile network which does require apn settings to be set) or there's an issue with the antena. No connection shows up in the VAN UI. Anyone with any ideas about how I could go about testing either of those things?

the lastest firmware is 1.2.. and here are the AT main secret programming codes and commands...(I do not want ...etc..publish more secret codes not ask for more..)..because they are too dangerous change the commands etc..use this software..PuTTY AT commands are very helpful for troubleshooting your device and changing the settings that are not available from standard Windows settings. For example, you can choose the access technology ? 2G, 3G, 4G and even stick to particular frequency bands.EM7345 is using Intel (formerly Infineon) AT command set and it?s not compatible with Quallcomm AT command set. All basic AT commands like AT+CFUN are more or less the same for all 3G/4G devices, but advanced ones, starting from AT+X, are unique to Intel XMM platform devices. No official documentation for AT commands was released by Intel, all I was able to find is some source code fragments for Samsung phones (that are based on the earlier XMM platform, like XMM 6380, or so) on GitHub.To use AT commands, first you have to enable EM7345 AT command port, There are many cases when your newly installed EM7345 doesn?t work. Let?s start step by step.AT+CFUN?should return: +CFUN: 1,01 means the device is turned on. If it?s not 1, make sure your EM7345 is turned on in Windows Connection Manager. Or try to turn it on using the AT command:AT+CFUN=1Let?s check if the SIM card is working and recognize... Read more

I keep hearing people who have fairly modern PC's (although perhaps lacking a good graphics card) talking about buying a PS3. I would like to tell them that they should really consider spending $200 to $250 for a new video card and using their PC to play games thereby saving themselves the much larger cost of a PS3.

Is this reasonable advice? If they were to upgrade an Intel P4 (3.2 MHz with adequate memory, hard drive, sound quality, etc.) by buying a fairly good quality video card, would that put the machine into a comparable quality such that it would run most games available for the PC such that it would compare fairly well to those same games running on the PS3?

It doesn't have to be extremely high quality. I'd just like to know if it would be reasonably accurate to say that upgrading a fairly modern PC (with a P4 CPU - not a Celeron) with a good quality video card would put it into roughly the same level of performance for playing games as the PS3.

Answer:Would you consider this advice to be reasonable?

Hi all,

I'm currently looking into buying a new server for the company I'm interning at. The issue is I'm somewhat clueless about IT in general, so I'm concerned an offer I've received for a Dell PowerEdge T430 server which I've pasted below is a rip off. The price I've been quoted is $4020,10.

Here are the specs:
"Server Dell PowerEdge T430 8B, (1)*Intel Xeon E5-2630v4 Processor (2.2GHz, 10C, 25MB, 8.0GT/s QPI, 85W), 32GB (2x16GB) 2400MHz RDIMM, PERC H330, DVD+/-RW, (2)*1TB SATA 6Gbps 7.2k 3.5" HD Hot Plug (up to 8x3.5"HDD), Broadcom 5720 GbE Dual Port on board, IDRAC8 Ent., (2)*750W, No Rails, 3y NBD"

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Also if it helps the initial uses of the server would be secure data storage, hosting an email service for 12 staff members, and if possible setting up a hybrid disaster recovery solution, for instance linking the service to a cloud based service like Microsoft Azure.

If anyone out there can suggest a cheaper and viable alternative that would be ace!

Best regards,

Question: Reasonable prices?

What would be a reasonable price to "reimage" a machine?
(ie wipe off all the trojans/adware/spyware)

Reimage including databackup and a reinstall of the os and drivers.

Data backup being a loose sense of the term and including just music, photos, documents, email, and favorites, and just to be nice also throwing on a few apps that are essential...itunes, aim, firefox, spybot, antivirus of choice.

I know geek squad's prices...and they are...about on par I'd say for the amount of time it takes to do all of the above but what do you guys think?

Good Afternoon, Gentlemen,
I am sorely, at least I think so, of the sound advice that you hand out, on a very regular basis.
I have had an Acer Aspire One 722-C62kk with an 11.6” screen and 4GB for a couple of years. And it has done – and is doing – the job I wanted it to do; namely to take on holidays with us so we can keep in touch with friends whilst on the holiday. But we are just back from 2 weeks in Lanzarote and I must admit that I have found it s-l-o-w. I do not know anything about chips and, therefore, would be very grateful if someone could recommend a notebook with a faster chip in it. This is where I will probably annoy some of you: I would like one that is 5 to 10 times faster!! Also I am not looking for a new notebook – these all seem to come with Windows 10 which I do not like – but a second hand one with Windows 7 preferably 64Bit Home Premium or similar with USB 3.0 port(s). I am quite willing to go to £100, but for a good one am willing to stretch up to £200. If a company that trades in second hand notebooks has options and any of you know a reasonably reliable one that would also be helpful.
I know I am being picky, but at my time of life I am getting more and more specific and that is why I am asking you gentlemen.
Any and all – no matter how rude – replies will be very gratefully received.

WARNING!!! The instructions in this post are applicable only to EM7345 installed in Lenovo laptops!! For example, models T440, X240, X1 Carbon 2nd and 3rd gen, X250. For tablets or other devices don?t use the firmware given in this post, you can brick your EM7345! Unfortunately, the default factory EM7345 firmware version (1.1) has some bugs. For example, after connecting to a LTE network and then disconnecting manually, the network status of the connection was changing for me to ?No service? until device restart. Also, the device often disappears from Device Manager and reappears there with the name ?1 CDC? and does not work until you disable and then enable it again in Device Manager. All those issues are caused by some bugs in EM7345 firmware. But there is a newer version of firmware, namely 1.2, where the above bugs are fixed. But by default, you cannot flash it, because firmware updating is supposed to work unattended. And this is not nice of Intel and Lenovo. The users must be able to do firmware updating when they need or want it! Bad, bad Lenovo, very bad! Here?s the instructions of how to flash your EM7345 to the latest version:Make sure you?re using Windows 8 or 8.1Go to the control panel and uninstall Sierra Wireless EM734x 4G LTE Software from Program and Features.Reboot your laptop.Download and install the latest EM7345 driver package from the Lenovo website. I wanted to hear some opinions about the situation in the office I work in.

Recently we changed accounting software and my advice to change to Office 365 was rejected. Still all 15 employees want their emails to be safe and backed up.
Some employees don't delete their emails, so I end up with approximately 10 GB PST-file size per year per user. Of course I split them year by year. The problem is that they want to keep even pst files from 5 or more years ago. Always available. My idea is now, that I make a one time backup copy of recent years and a daily backup of the actual year.
I made some tries already with EaseUS. But I'm not satisfied.
I'd prefer not to schedule it and leave it up to the employee to decide when to make the backup. So, let's say the employee leaves earlier for some reason why leaving the PC on until 7 pm or so? Also a power cut could prevent that scheduled backup entirely from happening.
Here's a list of what I need the backup software to be able to do:

- Start the whole backup process with a double-click on an icon (on the desktop). EaseUS needs more steps incl. always having to set the Shutdown option manually.
- On the destination file storage or NAS I want to overwrite the previous file, not to create version after version. Or even better: Create a new version but delete the old version afterwards. A four month old mid-range factory built computer.Functions exactly as it should, but ignoring the sound advice "If it aint broke don't fix it" i would like it to sound less like a collection of busy fans, which it has!I am prepared to spend some more and replace the PSU, CPU's fan and even the case fan.The video card fan seems blameless, stalling for one moment doesn't change the rushing noise. The PSU is probably the most justifiable replacement. It is a bog standard ATX of 300w.I wonder if click here will do the trick. (5th down the list) the 435W job)? The case fan is a standard affair drawing warm air and pushing it out of the back. It is possibly an 8cm fan (approx 7cm between screws) and draws its power from the mobo.Probably not contributing much windrush but suggestions welcome? The CPU fan sits naked on a sort of 4 legged gantry over a very elaborate dome of fine fins and Intel trade mark. Doesn't seem responsible for much noise, but again, any comments.

Answer:In the name of silence or reasonable quiet

are you positive it aint the graphics cooler as mines noisy as hell! you could always invest in some heat pipes that will cut out most of the noise!

I realize that this is a bit of a vague question as it depends on so many things, I would just like a guideline.Pent4 2g/768mem/XPpro/quite a few progs run on startup. How long from pressing the restart to up and running again?Any comments pleaseRay

Answer:What is a reasonable restart time?

About 2 minutes in total here. Four users. If the PC hasn't been shut down or restarted for several days, it takes more time for Windows to shut down all running processes.Once Windows has actually shut down all processes, it takes about 45 seconds for it to go through the restart/boot-up before getting back to the Welcome screen.

I have four rather old HDDs that are either not recognized by the system or that cause computer shut down when connected.

Is it reasonable to attempt to repair these? It is my understanding that the majority of all HDD failures are electrical and not mechanical. If this is true, then I would conclude that most problems are caused by the replaceable control board on the HD.

BTW I have a circuit board on order to attempt the repair of a 250GByte Seagate HD (a Barracuda 7200.10).

This HD seems to be an ideal candidate for home repair because it immediately shuts down the computer when power is applied. There is a direct short from the HDs' 5 volt input pin to ground. That short circuit exists even when the board is removed from the HD.

Obtaining an exact replacement seems to be the trick. I 'think' I have done that.

Answer:Is It Reasonable/Sensible to Attempt to Repair a HDD

It's not as simple as replacing the PCB on most modern drives, you may also have to move the original ROM chip or firmware that contains the specific drive parameters to the new PCB. Unlike older drives, new drives are all slightly different and unique. With the 7200.10 a PCB swap may work because its an older drive.

Is this a reasonable graphics card?

ATI RADEON 9800 Pro 256Mb AGP

It will be used with a Gigabyte 8VM800PMD-775 mobo

on a 2.8ghz celeron with 1gb Ram, 200gb hdd

Answer:Is this a reasonable graphics card?

How much does it cost?
I recommend a 6600GT video card. It should costly almost the same, and you get a lot more performance.

The two bad things are these:

a) You must have a good, quality 300-350 power supply, from a good, well-known manufacturer, with at least 20 A on the 12V rail, in order to have a stable computer.

b) The performance of a 9800 PRO or a 6600GT will be limited by your current CPU (is it a Celeron D or a Celeron?).

Good luck!

I subscribe to Norton 360 but have got the trojan Antivirus XP 2008 with its annoying porn popups and messages. Via the chat facility, Norton advisors have removed part of the problem remotely but the popups have come back and other irritations, like slow running remain. They have now escalated my call to their virus specialist and want to charge me 70 for a detailed consultation plus check of the PC and clean up. Am I being reasonable thinking that Norton 360 should have stopped the trojan in the first place and it's a bit much having to pay them to clean up. The adviser was quite aggressive saying that I should have this done straight away otherwise I might spread the virus on the internet and my ISP will cut me off.I'd be grateful for views on Norton's stance.

Noticed today that switches with 10 GbE ports are starting to become quite low in price on eBay. Is this a sign that the price is finally starting to move or are these switches junk, lacking features or not usable to attach a server or two and start playing with the speeds?

I'm mostly seeing HP 2900's but there are others too.

edit: maybe there are just rear stacking ports? The fronts must just be sfp 1 GbE?

Answer:10 GbE starting to become reasonable for home?

ProCurve 2900s have normal gig ports for connecting to clients.

A long tale of woe that ends with some questions. Please bare with me in the background explanation.

For over a year I've been having occasional flurries of crashes, hangs and (rarely) BSODs. Months would go by with no problem, then dozens of crashes or hangs in a week. The event logs and rare dumps have not been helpful. People here said it sounded like hardware problem, but no diagnostics I ran could find a problem.

I took it to a pc repair shop which could find no hardware problem (and of course it would not crash or hang for them). The suggested (as did people on this forum) that it probably was ZoneAlarm Internet Security. They installed the Kaspersky Internet Security product (for a fee, of course) and said that should fix the problems. 2 days later it froze 3 times and did automatic reboots 5 times.

I took it back. It still wouldn't crash or hang for them. They said Windows probably needed to be reinstalled - that my update from Win7 Home to Pro corrupted something. Rather than mess up the installation again I asked them to do it (for a fee, of course).

During their attempts to reinstall Windows it started crashing for them. They succeeded on their 3rd attempt, ran some more tests, checked the configuration, and found problems with the ram. They said ram I had was incompatible with the mother board and buggy, but the problems could not be detected by the diagnostics. They also said they had to reinstall Windows a 4th time because the 3rd reinstallation ... Read more

Answer:Reasonable explanation for crashes?

OCZ is high quality, but it is also one of the least compatible memories on the market (meaning it works properly with the fewest hardware configurations)
I use it personally and have for years with no complaint. ...and certainly without the problems you describe, though I always verify the motherboard/ram compatibility before I purchase a motherboard.

If the ram is actually bad it can cause any number of seemingly unrelated problems and errors. Since basically everything processes through the ram and it can be only one stick or one specific memory address on a stick that actually causes the problem. It's possible this bad address can go for months without being used until a specific set of circumstances pops up.

Some folks may have read my other thread... About a Dell laptop that needs $1,000 of repairs 25 months after purchase.MOST products, you would expect to last at least five years before wearing out - washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, should last even longer, and they take serious abuse!... A quick inventory of my house has The same EQ I bought in 9th grade (I won't say how old it is, ahem, but it was Made in USA, and "Tattoo You" and "Moving Pictures" were the new albums I played on it!) This is NOT a serious problem, just more of an annoyance which is intriguing me.
With 4gb ram, a reasonable dual processor and graphics card, one would expect a reasonably good performance whatever the case.
My automatic startup consists of just Avast AV, Java, and Malwarebytes although l also get additional icons on the taskbar for the Network and Sharing Center and Action Center.
I use Firefox as my main browser.
I also use SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and Defraggler reasonably frequently, so l know that my system is clear of any junk, malware, spyware, and that no viruses are present.
I fire the system up in the morning, bring up Firefox and all is fine, and reasonably quick.
Do a fair amount of downloading using the MiPony download manager to access rapidshare files, but with my crap connection, the max download speed seems to hover around the 280kbs mark.
I may also have two FF sessions on the go, as well as the downloading, so whatever l do after that seems to really slow the system down.
I have even run ConvertX at the same time as all of the above and the system came to a near grinding halt.
Now l know that all of the above are processor/ram hungry but surely with my specs the computer should more than cope?
Maybe l'm missing something obvious or my dual processor system just cannot cope with more than two ram hungry programs running at the same time.
Has anyone got any ideas or do l just have to live with it.

Answer:Any way of speeding up a pc with reasonable specs?

I recently purchased a ThinkPad W540. And noticed my connection is dropping every few seconds.
First thing I did was getting a new SIM card. didn't change anything. Now I left Device Manager open by accident, and noticed the EM7345 was disappearing from the list and then appearing again. Does this mean the EM7345 is faulty?I have been unable to install the latest driver. It still shows the inbox Microsoft driver dating back to 2013 in Windows 8.1. I was hoping a firmware update might fix it. But to my understanding Windows 8.1 loads this firmware from the hard disk or SSD upon boot.
I confirmed the network card is also behaving the same in Ubuntu 14.10.Now I plan on calling Lenovo tomorrow for an on-site replacement.

Answer:EM7345 randomly disconnecting in new W540.

When it disappears do you see an unknown device called '1 CDC' in Device Manager ? It always use Microsoft generic driver because it works in MBIM device mode (IOW there is no need for vendor specific network device driver, except the GPS). What firmware version do you have ? Follow this thread

How to flash the firmware of the sierra wireless em7345 on windows 10 ? Its not possible through the steps i could find which was only for widnows 8.

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 windows 10

HiOnce the modem drivers are installed, including Intel flash tool, and the sim card inserted, during laptop cold start the flash service checks out whether newer firmware is available according to current modem fw and the sim card data (more clearly, cellular operator MCC/MNC values), and performs the flashing process if it's needed, in auto mode. You should see appropriate notification from the flash service in the system tray.

My wireless router does not seem to be working for Internet connectivty despite many reboots. It's (Netgear fm114p) been in use for less about 10 months. My nephew suggested recently that I buy some extra memory for my Dell Dimensiion 8250 computer, which is a couple of years old. Knowing that I have Rambus RD-RAM, he searched the Net and told me RD-RAM was both harder to find and more expensive than he expected.

He went to PrimeWatch and found only two websites which had RD-RAM available. Then he went to eBay and told me I could pay $400 for 1G of CD1066 RD-RAM or $256 for 1G of PC 800 RD-RAM.

I have two slots of 256 RD-RAM -- PC 1066, unless I'm mistaken -- which means I have two open slots. My nephew told me I could fill the two open slots with 512 PC 1066, which would give me 1.5 G total. Or, he said, my PC could hold up to 2 G of PC 800 RD-RAM. (All of this terminology is new to me, but my nephew appears to understand it quite well.)

I remember hearing a while back that the price of memory was dropping rapidly, but my nephew told me that seems to have changed. Is it possible that I could find better prices for RD-RAM than those shown on eBay?

this is what i am looking at. and im hoping to get some suggestions and hopfuly hear from someone who has it- - ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Eventually, all sockets go away, but I haven't heard anything particular about 1155. Are you mistaking that for 1156, which is about gone?

As long as you have a good brand and a little bit of luck, I'd just shop on the basis of desire features and price/support.

What does "best" mean in this context?

That particular board is certainly more than you need for most purposes and would be a waste of money for a typical installation. But you may need each and every one of its features. I don't know.

Ok, I am basically new here and have a system I built in the middle of 2007. I am trying to see if it is viable to upgrade any of the components to make it a little more competitive for the rest of this year, but I don't know that there is much I can do with it without buying multiple components.

I have:

MSI AM2 Athlon 64/X2, PC6400 mem. capable motherboard
4600+ Athlon X2
NVIDIA 9600GT 512mb
2 gb PC6400 DDR2

I am currently running 64 bit Windows 7, and despite 2gb of memory it runs well.

Basically, I don't know if there is much that can be done with this. It's kind of stuck where it is. I could get a little faster dual core X2 processor, but I don't know that it would make much of a difference. Obviously a quad core CPU would require a new motherboard and CPU, so might as well do that with a whole new computer build. I could upgrade to 4gb of dual channel memory, but I don't know that games/programs would utilize it enough to be worth it. Video card wise, I have a 19" 1280 x 1024 monitor, so I whether or not a better video card would get a huge difference in framerate at that resolution I'm not sure.

I am primarily looking at this in regards to games like Bioshock 2, etc. coming out this year. I would just like to run those newer games a little better for this year until I anticipate building a new system in 2011. I have a very annoying issue wherein the small rubber V-shaped or triangular pegs attached to the base of the extended battery of my U150 have come off; so now the laptop wobbles when I type. I've called the service center (Philippines not India), they were very nice and courteous, but had no replacement part number so they cannot replace the part even if I am under warranty! How ridiculous is that?!?! It would be so easy to mail me a pair of pegs and I would simply superglue it on the base. What they offered is even more absurd! They want me to give them a $90+ deposit to send them my whole battery pack (that is working just fine) which they are willing to replace in order to get the new legs on it. We're talking about a pair of pegs worth no more that 25-US-cents!!! Does anyone have any solutions? Or is there some other mystical resource to get these rubber pegs replaced? This issue has been going on for two months, and Lenovo has not replied, emailed, nor called as promised by the customer service receptionist who said they would refer my claim to Lenovo.

I am trying to find a touchscreen monitor that is actually priced reasonably. It needs to be between 10 and 12 inches and the pixel resolution needs to be at least 1024x768.

I can't find any for a fair price. They make all kinds of good ones though... for $250 and up! They can't be THAT expensive since you can buy android tablets for like $150. Even mouser doesn't carry touchscreen LCD panels anymore that have a greater resolution than 640x480.

I have managed to find ONE that has a somewhat reasonable price but it's sold by a shady looking seller. Half of the reviewers didn't receive a working unit and the other half did.

I call ******** on these prices. They don't cost that much to produce. Something like that shouldn't cost more than $100. I'm not willing to spend more than $150 on a touchscreen monitor unless the resolution is 1280x720 or greater and even then I'm not spending more than 175-200.

So where is a place you can buy these from that are priced reasonably? If there are none, can I buy a $100-$150 android tablet just for the LCD panel, take it apart and somehow re wire everything up for use with a PC?

If I have understand correctly EM7345 is made specifically for Lenovo based on their requirements and specifications. Lenovo is also responsible for this firmware....on Carbon X1 etc... I found an interesting AT command for Sierra Wireless EM7345. The command is ?AT+XCIQ?. There?s the following text string in EM7345 firmware file (it is present in any version so far): +XCIQ CIQ: Carrier IQ enable/disable.Let?s try to get ?help? about this command: AT+XCIQ=? +XCIQ: (0-1) OK1234AT+XCIQ=?+XCIQ: (0-1) OKSo, we can suppose that 0 disables this Carrier IQ feature, and 1 enables it.Let?s read the current setting of this feature: AT+XCIQ? +XCIQ: 1 OK1234AT+XCIQ?+XCIQ: 1 OKLooks like it?s on by default. Let?s try to switch it off?NOTE: If you?re running firmware earlier than 1522.02, don?t enter the following command! If we try to enter: AT+XCIQ=01AT+XCIQ=0i.e try to disable Carrier IQ, EM7345 will have a fatal crash and reboot into boot flashing mode and it will be stuck there for good. So, Carrier IQ is always on and if you try to turn it off using the above AT command, that will kill the device! With firmware version 1522.02, AT+XCIQ=0 returns OK and there?s no fatal crash like in previous firmware versions. Also AT+XCIQ now accepts 3 possible values with 1522.02 firmware: AT+XCIQ=? +XCIQ: (0-2) OK1234AT+XCIQ=?+XCIQ: (0-2) OKSo, 0 must be disable, 1 enable, and what is 2? Any value gets OK response and t... Read more

Just my 2cents, but have you tried putting the SIM in a regular handphone/cell phone? Sometimes, some carriers may require you to "activate" the SIM. You may also need to put in APN, etc information in the "Advanced Options".

May i know whether Sierra AirPrime EM7345 work with ThinkPad W540?

Answer:ThinkPad W540 Work with Sierra EM7345?

Since it is listed in the official parts-list for the W540: Yes. However, you will need a Lenovo branded card (04X6014, which is the Sierra Wireless EM7345 LTE/HSPA+ 42Mbps M.2 Card).

I am using the EM7345 in my X1 carbon 2014 on a daily basis. It works flawlessly with my local 4G SIM. (No need for APN settings)I went to Spain for a week and tried 2 different providers: Labara and Hits mobile. They are both guesting in Vodaphone's network. In the network connection dialog they both indicate Vodaphone ES with an additional roaming indicator. When trying to connect they both ask for an APN string: After clicking connect it takes like no time till it says "cannot connect," I wonder,Windows bug? (windows 8.1 update)Sierra driver bug?or maybe vodaphone trouble? btw, I also tried a "native" vodaphone ES sim (no need for APN settings)Worked perfectectly ! Any suggestions?

Hi Support, I would like to change a setting, so that the Sierra Wireless Adapter only connects to 4G networks. In Windows 10, I cannot see anywhere where I can easily set this. I would expect there to be mobile management software where these settings could be changed. I never want to connects to GPRS, and would like my Sierra Wireless mobile card to only connect to 4G or not connect at all. This would prevent the card dropping down to GPRS when the signal is temporarily weak and force it it to try for a 4G connection. I have had similar functionality on prior USB mobile data cards I.e. Vodafone, and hence the expectation that there would be similar settings on the Sierra Wireless. Thank you, George

I've got a Sierra Wireless ME7345 card in my W550S. It used to work fine, but around the time I 'upgraded' to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, it comes and goes. When it's not available, it shows as "This device cannot start (Code 10) in the Device Manager. I've tried installing the drivers again and rebooting but it makes no difference. It will occasionally show up, but after a few sleep and wake cycles it goes away. Rebooting sometimes makes it appear. Thoughts? Thanks!

hi all, i bought a helix 2 from a friend - he did not use the mobile broadband card, but i need this thing.Using a german Telekom CardModem FW is FIH7160_V1.1_MODEM_01.1349.12 i searched google and forums and found some hints how to upgrade.installed the latest Tool (MBIM Firmware Updater), it comes with a FLS FileFIH7160_V1.2_WW_01.1616.01_Generic.fls and XML file. as i could not find the FLZ, i edited the XML with The infomration for Telekom (26201) When i try to upgrade it says:ERROR: Firmware Telekom Deutschland GmbH, v1616.01 is not intedned for this model of the device. The reason why i want to upgrade is: nearly NO connection with this card, although all other devices have LTE connection Who can help or make my Helix World less dark? Thanks Frank

Answer:Helix 2. / Upgrade EM7345 - where find FW Files?

what worked for me to upgrade: antonio on December 26, 2016 at 4:08 am

Thanks riemannZ!

So the procedure for me was:

a) Install the Sierra Wireless EM7345 driver, in my case gtwo47ww.exe
b) Edit with admin privileges:
%ProgramData%\Intel\LENOVO MBIM Toolkit\Config\Config.xml

and set:

SilentAutoFWUpdate to false
PromptForSilentAutoFwUpdateFail to true
EnforceModuleCompatibility to false
FirmwareSysTray to true

c) Restart

You will be prompted for firmware upgrade, in my case with a generic driver.

Hello! I have a T450s with a Sierra EM7345. After a vanilla installation of Windows 10 and Update 1607 I don't get a stable connection with 3G/HDSPA/LTE to O2 with this card. I have used the latest drivers 2.25.10910 and software 2.21.10890. The card shows firmware FIH7160_V1.2_WW_01.1528.04. Energy-Option is set to maximum performance. The connection to O2 is established very quickly, but I have a plenty of time-outs over this card.Does anybody have the same problem or has a solution? Thanks Axel

Answer:X1 Carbon - Driver Sierra Wireless EM7345 ?

Hi, jkuengWhat's the OS installed on your laptop? For win8/8.1 there are no needs for drivers if the card is in MBIM mode. It must work natively in OS. Let's check it. Look at the Device Manager, open Network Adapters item. You should see something with AiarCard. Open Properties, Details tab, pull down Options list, find out an item Compatible ID. Looks like USB\Class_xx&SubClass_xx&Prot_xx). Copy the values and past here. Will look.
Also, could you, please, post here USB IDs of this card? Find it at the same list under Hardware ID item (looks like VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx).

Dear All, I have a X1 Carbon with Sierra EM7345 WWAN modem. It is all installed perfectly - drivers etc. But id does not recognize the SIM card. I have googled a bit and I can say that:1) I have the drivers OK, I have the WWAN network adapter etc.2) I have inserted the SIM card correctly The SIM card works perferctly if I use the USB 3G stick instead. So the problem is not in the SIM card.I think there is some configuraiton of the Sierra modem which should be done - to switch to 3G/2G or something. Please help - one of the main reasons to buy this laptop was the embedded WWAN. Thanks. Here are some screenshots with the config:

Saw a lot of postings about the new version of QuickTime Alternative and Real Alternative everywhere (including Major Geeks) lately.

I agree it is a good idea to be able to use the codec without the player / crap installed, but I've released that the QT Alternative actually has a cracked QT7Pro Key... That is definately illegal! isn't it??

Why do mainstream software / news site (******** / majorgeeks / warp2search) still post this software then? What's next? Keygen for Nero?

The same for the codec pack, some has cracked DivX Pro inside!

Please response...

Answer:Norton GoBack Alternative? XXClone Alternative

Is your computer and your data worth about 20? If so, you should buy Acronis True Image, and an external hard drive on which to keep your Acronis backups - you will then have no further worry about losing any of your precious data.

I need to replace a TP-Link N600 router that is constantly dropping G-wifi. The N seems stable enough but TP-Link customer disservice is working at it's peak. Totally hopeless. I have been trying to get them to to take it back for warranty-repairs and all they keep telling me to do is update the firmware.

I had done that before I even contacted them the first time. I am now using some of their Beta firmware and still no change. I have had it with TP-Link.

So, looking for 4 x Gigabit LAN, G and N wifi at 450 to 600 Gb. An AC-wifi might be nice, but when N is working right, it does all I need. I still need G for my windows phone. {sigh}

I have just tried Zyxel, Edimax and Netgear. Returned them all as the TP-Link when running right had much better power output on both G and N ate distances. Linksys, not even slightly interested in, so what's left? If a Buffalo, I'd want a non-DD-Wrt version. DD-Wrt is great but too time consuming to configure.

Anyone with personal experience of a router they love that doesn't cost a $100+, care to chime in here.

Answer:Decent Router at reasonable price? NOT TP-Link

I got a little-known Router from Western Digital [yeah, the hard drive company] over a year and a half ago, cost $60. When I first got it I'd have to turn the Wi-Fi off [switch on the front] about once a week to re-establish it. After about a month I got a firmware update for it and haven't had a problem since. It's been running 24/7 since 9/11 but we had a transformer blow down the road that day and were without power 6AM until about 7PM that day. Didn't help to also have 10" of snow.

I've set up D-Link and Netgear Routers and haven't had call-backs on them yet.

Pulling my hair out here...

I just got a new monitor, and while installing that accidentally uninstalled the network card. Whoops. Talked to tech support and they said I had to do a reinstall of Windows to get it back, pretty much. So I did, checking "keep files". All went well, until I tried to get into my files. I used to share this computer with others so all of my files under "My Documents" were unshareable under the old system - I'm assuming that's why, when I tried to get to *my* user data, it kept telling me no. After some searching, I found a webpage telling me to reboot in safe mode, go into the folder properties, and reset the owner of those files to my new profile. I did, and everything was restored - except that the files in My Pictures and My Music are all still unaccessible. I can get to them, I can view them, the properties show that they have sizes which seem reasonable for full, normal files - but when I open any of my photos I get nothing - in the Windows Picture and Fax viewer, for instance, I get "no preview available". I've tried renaming the files, moving them, copying them, e-mailing them - nothing. The music files are the same - look normal, but when I try and play them they open up as a 0 second music file. Name and info is available, but no music.

In short: any help vastly appreciated. This is the second time in two years I've lost my vacation photos, last year my camera got stolen Maybe I need to ... Read more

Answer:files present, have a reasonable size, do not open

As an aside, save all your pictures to CD or some other source, and then you can access them with almost any viewer...

I essentially skipped Vista completely (bought it with the hardware, installed it, then discarded it) and started with the 7000 beta. Am currently toying with 7077 on a new, 3-week-old monster machine that needs to shift into productive use very soon.

Moving the "Documents and Settings" folder was easy back in XP days. It appears to be a lot more complicated now. However, after a bit of reading, I've come up with the following:
Clean install (in this case, 7077 x64) as user 'username'
Enable 'Administrator' account
Log out of 'username' and log into 'Administrator'
Continue with computer setup using the 'Administrator' account
Delete both the account and files for 'username'
Hack the registry to alter the location for new user accounts
-- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList]
-- Replace '%SystemDrive%\Users' with 'D:\Users' for the 'ProfilesDirectory' key
Create a new account for 'username' with admin privileges which appears as D:\Users\username\...
Log out of the 'Administrator' account (leaving it active and located in the C:\Users folder)
Log into the new 'username' admin account and go about business as usual.
(There will be four additional non-admin accounts created on this machine -- all of them located in the D:\Users folder.)
My question is: Does this seem a valid approach to separating the Users folder from the system drive? Or, am I setting myself up for problems?

Answer:Moving \Users folder ... Is this a reasonable approach?
