Can access a website with Edge but not with Chrome?

Question: Can access a website with Edge but not with Chrome?

Hi.  Brand new computer, 4 days old.  Still loading it up with stuff from my old laptop.  Removed Norton with the removal tool and installed Eset Smart Security.  Very little else installed yet.

I need to go to the Australian retailer Coles reasonably often.  Chrome is my preferred browser.  When I try to get to the website I get:-

www.coles.com.au unexpectedly closed the connection.

Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
Running Windows Network Diagnostics

Connection is fine, can get anything else I want.  Firewall is not on as I'm running Eset.  Diagnostics is as useless as ever and says it can't determine the problem as usual.

HOWEVER, if I use the Microsoft Edge browser, no problem - straight to Coles.
Anyone hazard a guess as to why this is the case?
thanks
Hoges

Preferred Solution: Can access a website with Edge but not with Chrome?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A friend with a Lenovo i7 P50 Thinkpad with Win 10 factory installed. Creators Update installed via Windows Update a few weeks ago. Called me last week reporting that he could no longer view web pages using Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or IE. I checked event viewer and saw one of his music creation programs was using a proxy server that was failing. I uninstalled the program and he was able to access web sites for a week, then yesterday the problem came back but no related errors in event viewer. Opening up a CMND window I could ping and tracert any web site without problems. His e-mail works. team viewer works. The web browsers will not connect, hang sometimes, and when closed and exited can still be seen running under task manager or process explorer. I get an error message saying the program can not be terminated when I try to kill it with process explorer or task manager. I ran a half dozen or more antivirus / malware programs which only come up with PUP's and one or two malware not related to this problem. NO proxy settings seen in the browser / internet settings. Running ipconfig /flushdns /release /renew doesn't help either. Suggestions appreciated. - Steve

Answer:Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and IE all fail to connect to any website

Just a wild guess, is that computer by chance using any kind of proxy service or HideMyID service provided by an installed AV or Internet Service package by any number of free or pay-for products?

I can't access/logon to onedrive.live website when using internet explorer or the new edge browser. But if I use Google's Chrome browser I have no problems. It's been like this for weeks. The load page repeatedly refreshes and then finally tells me "something went wrong and we can't sign in right now." It's also fine on my Galaxy phone.

Hi guys, I need some help. Everytime I open my chrome I got the pop up and I think the IP is not the good one. I already ran some anti malware and found nothing.
I was attacked last week with trojan, malware, etc. So I though my pc isn't clean enough.

Links to websites, either from emails or from shortcuts pinned to my PC desktop's task-bar have suddenly been directed to Google Chromes search page. There are four icons pinned to the task-bar that work;Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Google Earth and Windows Live Mail all of the rest, such as Facebook, Ancerstry.com YouTube and others now default to the Google Chrome search page.

I have run numerous anti-virus scans all of which have not picked up anything sinister.

The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium. I am not a IT tecky but should be able to follow straight forward instruction, if anyone has any ideas on this problem.

I have a website, I am trying to get to work in edge. I made a website, and it is hosted on my internal server via apache running on Mandriva Linux 2010.1, on virtual box, on Windows 10 (which is the physical machine's OS).

I tested this website in Internet Explorer, by going to the main page, opening it in Internet Explorer, and then clicking the hyperlink to go there. It works from there. I tested in firefox and chrome, and it works there too. But it won't work from edge.

I found out the reason: edge is coded to make the page redirect from http to https, and I don't want it to run over https, and it is not set up to run over https. What trick either in my webserver or in edge's configuration can I use to get around this? Or if that's not possible could you tell me how to get the same content working over https, without having to deal with certificates or anything, and no warnings about certificate errors? https is not really needed for this website, because it's just a list of hyperlinks to other pages.

For some stupid reason my clients website does not load properly on Edge. This is their website: Waterproofing Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Grimsby St. Catharines. The banner image always gets cropped out. I don't see the issue in Chrome/Safari/Firefox.

Hi there

For a couple of weeks I have not been able to access our business website or the hosting company website from our main office. I can access all other websites.

I can ping the website with no loss through a command prompt. Other people can access the website no problem and I can access it fine from my pc at home.

I have checked the hosts file and the address is not blocked.

I have contacted the ISP and the hosting company and they can find nothing wrong, so I am assuming the problem lies with me.

Does anyone have any ideas why this may be happening?

Many thanks in advance

Nope.
Just use both, I do

All browsers these days,do basically the same things and are pretty fast and snappy.

It's when you start using skins, add-ons, extensions, toolbars, and extra security suite protection that they begin to slow down.

Just keep those to a minimum, and get only what you REALLY need.

That said, I use Edge 97% of the time because it is hooked deeper into the system, with Cortana/Search, and also has better sound when streaming(my setup & my system anyhow), For example I use YouTube a lot, and Find Edge better than Chrome as far as sound goes.

Question: Edge vs Chrome

I've been using Google Chrome for a long time....

When I first got on windows 10, Edge seemed not so great and I like Internet Explorer better but I knew it wasn't going to be maintained much longer as Edge is now the official windows browser...Although it still seems to lack some of the extra features that Chrome has, since installing Fall Creators Edition, I have been using it for a while and was amazed at how fast it appears to be...like web pages just fly in even when they have a lot of graphics on them...

With Chrome, I've noticed in recent times, it seems more sluggish now...and especially if a page has a lot of "stuff" and graphics on it, seems kind of slow to get it all loaded in...

I was considering making Edge my main browser now but was curious as to what others here think...Is (at this point) Edge good enough to be your everyday browser?

Looking forward to your feedback...any comments, comparisons, you preference, etc...

Answer:Edge vs Chrome

I would say if you don't use add-ons then Edge would be just fine. There's only a handful available for Edge...

I'm seeing a rather odd problem in Chrome on a work-managed machine. I suspect that some kind of GPO was pushed recently that is breaking Chrome's functionality, but I'm not sure of this at all. When I try to access certain websites, they either only partially load or fail completely. The Chrome Web Store fails. It loads most of the stuff the page requests but hangs at either googleads.g.doubleclick.net or google.com/uds. When trying to access Facebook, the site loads but then hangs trying to load a CSS file. While it's hanging, Flash crashes several times and it's not possible to click links, scroll, or do anything else. Additionally, I'm unable to even close the tabs that are hanging. Few websites actually work - most hang, even sites I've never visited before.Additionally, I use the "Chat for Google" plugin daily. This also fails to load correctly or log me in to Google talk.I've used a couple malware scanners to see if anything comes up - my machine appears to be clean. I don't have this issue in Firefox or Internet Explorer. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling Chrome and wiped out my Chrome user profile to make sure it wasn't a bad extension or something. I've also manually uninstalled and reinstalled Flash.Edit: I also went through and disabled nearly every plugin for Chrome, including Adobe Flash 11 and Google's own built-in Flash player (PepperFlash). That fixed Facebook but not the Chrome store.

Answer:Chrome - cannot access Chrome Web Store, facebook, chat app, etc.

Do you use AdBlock? It was on the fritz this afternoon but seems to be OK now.

Hi!
I am facing a weird issue with the YouTube website on the Edge browser. When I bought the laptop a month ago, it was working fine until two days back. My McAfee AV trial, which was bundled with the laptop, ran out and I uninstalled it. Since then only the YouTube website is looking all scrambled up. Please take a look at the attached screenshot;
What could be the issue? Any solutions for this? Ironically, the YouTube site is working fine in Internet Explorer. Please help!

My problem is I find MS Edge does not always react the same to sites that have appear to have website certificate error problems.

The following two url's are basically for the same site, due to a change in the name of the government department at some or other stage.

Daily State of Dams

Daily State of Dams

Both sites offer a facility where one can display data accessed from a database in a map form. One can display the latest data for the most recent date in the data base which always works. But on the one site (the official new site DWS Landing Page), choosing a previous date to the latest on will just display a place holder instead of the map,

yet on the older site, it will display a website certificate error message, which then allows one to proceed anyway and then get the map.

Can anyone offer an explanation why this is please? in other words why does MS edge not routinely display the error message instead of a place holder?

Further, using another browser such as Chrome will offer one an option to display the image in a separate window which then allows one to see the image. This facility is not available in MS Edge. Any reason why not?

Hello All,
Since yesterday I have been issues with Edge, where this happens every 5 minutes where it hangs then auto refreshes than shows the error below (on the left) either that or the page fails to load completely after appearing to load.
On the left Edge, on the right Firefox (which is still a memory hog ).
Any one else having the same issues?
The only thing that changed was I had to reinstall HP's AMD W8 drivers under compatibility mode; furthermore installing the latest WU updates did not resolve this issue.

Answer:Edge - website loading issues

Exactly !! I also have same issues for Edge and really irritated due to these issues.

Bit the bullet and swapped out my wonky SP3 for a new robo i5 256GB. I strongly encourage anyone buying anything from the MS Store to buy the extended warranty - it has helped me often. The thing about holding off on my warranty swap was because of all the software reinstalls I need to do and the 200GB of data to restore - yeah, if I had to do it again, I'd go 512GB.
So, this is a clean Win10 install. I go to Microsoft's Volume Licensing Service to download Office 2016 - a 800MB+ ISO and the download fails three times with Edge crashing. On top of that, the display driver goes wonky and I can't see the Start menu in its entirety to restart. I want to not have to use Google stuff, but here I am using Chrome again with the Office download at 60%.
Sigh...

I really like the performance of edge over other 3rd party browsers, but non availability of extension support is the major reason dragging me off to chrome & opera. i will soon be over with them as extension support is coming to edge with redstone build :)

So, I've been using Chrome for the better part of a year now, and I had an issue with YouTube videos, the video would lag behind the audio. I found no fixes for this, so I uninstalled Chrome and hoped to re-install it just using Edge. However, when I try to download it from Edge, nothing happens. Originally, a message box came up asking what I'd like to do with the Chrome installed, asking me if I wanted to "Save" "Save As" or "Cancel." None of them worked, the only button there that worked was the little "X" at the top right of the box. I tried disabling Edge asking me what to do with downloads, but when I click the download button, nothing happens. No pop up, nothing in my downloads folder, nothing. Please help.

I'm having issues with both Firefox and MS Edge and I'm wondering if Chrome would be a better choice and if so would I be able to import my FF Favorites to Chrome? Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Edge, Firefox or Chrome...which is best.

I have grown to like Edge especially with some of the recent updates. Browser choice continues to be a very personal and emotive subject so I will refrain from saying one is better than another since there are circumstances when some websites will not work well in Edge but work in IE etc.

What you are doing is great - try them out and ask for help if one does not appear to do what you want - someone will step in and show you a way if it is possible.

Hi,

I am trying to use "www.yomvi.es" (an on demand video player). I cannot use this on Chrome as it says Silverlight is not supported, this is fine as IE11 supports Silverlight.

HOWEVER

When i try to use Edge i get the chrome error message as the websites recognize Edge as Chrome...... I know edge doesnt support pluggins, but does this mean actually that its closer to a chrome coded browser than MS want to admit.

I have a surface RT and that doesnt support Silverlight either but now my Bandnew edge brower wont let me play it either!?!?!?!?

Hello,

So I have been experiencing problems with chrome and edge (I am running Windows 10). Upon start up, browsers will open once but not again. After opening, I might be able to go to another site or it may just hang. If I am able to go to the site the browser will then hang, forcing me to close it. The browser will not open again. I am able to run Comodo Ice dragon which is what I am using to post now. I have run MBAM, MBAR, Eset online scanner and Sophos Virus removal tool and all scans have come back clean.

Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE.

Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have this happen by using the task bar?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

best,

rick

When using any version of IE Explorer, when viewing a webpage and want to create a desktop shortcut to that webpage I would simply right click just about anywhere on the webpage and select Create Desktop Shortcut from the drop-down Menu and Presto a new icon shortcut would appear on the desktop.

However, when using MS- Edge, when I Right Click on any webpage all I get is a small drop down-down menu with no selection to create a Desktop Shortcut. Please don't tell me that MS has removed this feature in Edge and I am just missing something or there is a flaw in my system. I have tried every which way to create a Desktop Shortcut of something I am viewing when using Edge to no avail.

Answer:Creating Desktop Shortcut To Website When Using MS Edge

I'm with you on this one!
So far the only way I have found is to add the page to a reading list by clicking the Star at top right, selecting Reading List and then Add.
It's not ideal but it's better than nothing.

Another roundabout way is:
While viewing your wepage in Edge,

Click the three dots at top right
Choose Open with Internet Explorer

Now you can create your shortcut as you were used to. The shortcut will open in Edge if that's your default browser.

I ran the recent update for Windows 10 and since then when I click on Edge and do a search it comes up with a list of websites ok. However when I click on one of the links to open it I get "Hmm, we can't reach this page. Try this: make sure you have right address or refresh page." All links were working fine before I ran the update. I have exactly the same problem with my daughter's laptop. All searches work fine on anything not using Windows 10. Any ideas??

Just recently Edge has been giving me an error message stating "There is a problem with this site's security certificate" when I try to log onto my work site remotely. I know the site well, have spoken to their IT department and have been assured the certificate is up to date. I have verified my computer has the correct date and time. I have tried accessing the site with MS IE with the same results. There is an option to ignore the warning and proceed anyway, but nothing happens when I click it. Fire Fox allows me to get to the website and log in, but then it seems Citrix will not allow me to access the content. I had previously been able to access the site and its content with Edge. I am not aware that anything has changed on my computer and the IT department for the site I am trying to access notes that they are not having any problem with remote access when they personally log on, and have not received any other calls about problems. They note multiple users are currently logged on. They insist the problem is in my computer. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am currently running W10 Pro version 1511 on a Dell machine with Intel Core i7 920 @2.67GHz and 8.00 GB RAM. 64 bit system. I use both Fire Fox and MS Edge as browsers both of which are up to date.

I got a pop up message on my machine stating that using chrome uses more battery than Edge browser.

So I got a new Asus E200HA. Read some very good reviews about it in amazon.
While using the OS (Windows 10) everything works quite smoothly - Browsing around files, editing Office documents, even coding on VS Code. However, Web browsing, for the most part, is extremely slow. Facebook is almost unusable. Ebay, Amazon etc. scroll quite slowly. I've tried multiple ad blockers, but that didn't help. Any advice? I know my CPU is quite slow but everything other than web browsing works well. I also tried disabling some services, like windows search, but that didn't noticeably improve performance. I'm using a fresh OEM Windows 10 Home, with all bloatware removed. Maybe I should use a different windows build?

Thanks in advance,

Samuel

I just signed into my icloud account to verifying something then I received an email from apple that I was using Chrome as a browser....How even that possible?
all that was done with my laptop which is Toshiba with windows 10 in it.

Answer:Is the Edge browser based on chrome?

Nope, it's the user agent string which is use by browsers to identify themselves to sites so they render them properly and so on. This is the User Agent String of edge: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/46.0.2486.0 Safari/537.36 Edge/13.10586

Yeah, I went on line and asked. Go to the three dots upper right, then Settings, and there is suppose to be a button under "Choosing a Theme" for "Show the Favorite bar" and "import bookmarks from another browser". I see neither the "Show the Favorites bar" or "import bookmarks" buttons. Yes, my Windows 10 is up to date. Using a Lenova all-in-one a couple of years old.
I'd really like use Edge but I really don't want to bring all my bookmarks forward one at a time.
Any suggestions?

I have been using Chrome for a number of years now, but on a whim I decided to load up Edge, and wow, what a difference as far as scrolling and swiping. I didn't even realize, but the scrolling on Chrome is quite labored in comparison. It's much slower, requires more movement at slow speeds, and is much less intuitive.

Also, the two-finger swipe to do browser back-forward works really well in Edge, and not at all in Chrome.

I notice the difference also in scrolling with the touchscreen, though it's far less significant.

I'm wondering if this is a Windows thing, a Dell drivers thing, or a Chrome/Edge thing. I don't want to move over to Edge, but I might if I can't bring them both more in line. Any ideas on the cause? I've started here assuming it's a Windows 10 thing (or even Edge, since it's baked in to the OS).

So, I've just install FCU and I've decided to give edge a real try and not just use chrome. I don't have a problem with chrome, I just want to give edge a real chance now that it is not just on Windows Phone but also on Android. So, I've done a ton of searching on the web and there are a few tutorials on how to import chrome passwords into Edge, but none of them seem to work. I don't know if this is a google thing, or a recent change to chrome but going through the steps in Edge to import passwords just seems to ignore the passwords. It gets the bookmarks (which I don't really care about of course).
I've gone so far as install canary but that didn't really help either, has anyone else tried this recently? had an success with it? With canary I was able to export the passwords to a file, but I don't see a way to import the actual file into Edge...

I have reported these bugs endlessly to MS...

I recently installed Git and GitExtensions on my Win 10 Pro Desktop so that I could do some support for various projects on Github and when I tried to open a browser I had problems. I have my
defaults to to open Chrome when a browser is opened. My problem is when GitExtensions tries to open a browser Edge opens instead... with no navigation buttons/arrows/etc
whatsoever. And GitExtensions complains about setting compatibility-mode or using Firefox or Chrome or whatever. I tried setting the defaults to IE 11 with no change. How
do I get either  IE11 (installed) or Chrome (installed) to open instead of the chopped-down-not-usable Edge?

Answer:Problems with IE 11, Edge, Chrome and GitExtensions

Hi,
you'll have to set IE11 as your default browser. Internet Options>Programs tab, Have you installed the Visual Studio Git Hub extension? You can manage your repositories from within VS i/o the browser.

Pretty interesting stuff. I'll let the video speak for itself.
What has your experience been?

Answer:Edge performance vs Chrome and Firefox

Interesting indeed. Oftentimes when you ask a person about their primary browser, they'll say Chrome. I'll fess up and admit that I rarely use Edge and don't even have Firefox installed, so I won't be able to make a comparison between the three. I honestly think that if Google were to do the same test, they'd probably showcase Chrome as being the most efficient. Or would they be honest and give credit where it's due? Who knows sure...

Answer:How do I stop edge from asking me to install Chrome???

I very much doubt it will be Microsoft trying to get you to install Google Chrome, it will be Google either in a direct or indirect way.

I must admit I'm also getting fed up with constantly being told to install Chrome too, but Google's heavy-handed tactics shouldn't really come as a surprise as I read recently that Google even pay partners such as mobile carriers and phone manufacturers a slice of the pie by being pro-Google.

Where are you seeing the prompts, in the actual webpage like this or somewhere else?

I have a problem with pop up ads where when a pop up sometimes occurs it redirects to unwanted ads not where it supposed to pop up to. I know this came from a free download I did and even though I realized fairly quickly what it was it got on my system and infected it. It has installed something somewhere that causes redirection of pop ups.

I have done all normal advertised steps and repeated:

AdwCleaner

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free

HitmanPro

Reset browsers to default and rebooted.

I think these programs and steps have done something but something is still present as sometimes when a pop up occurs it redirects to unwanted ads. Probably making a new user would solve I think but would be good to solve it on this user. I know if the right file was deleted it would be gone but I do not know where it is and I am running out of steps to follow.

Anyone have some experience with where it might be and how to remove it? Thank you in advance.

Hello all,
I changed from Edge to Chrome browser following the different formats offered on the internet. When I go to the search bar whether I use typing or Cortina it takes me still to Bing. Does this sound right? It looks like I am in the Chrome browser, however, why am I seeing Bing as the search box?
Thanks for the help.

Answer:Change browser from Edge to Chrome

Hi! Have you tried changing your Search engine in Chrome's settings > Search drop down box?

If Bing was your Search engine before, it's possible Chrome picked up its settings from your previous browser.

I put about ten shortcuts onto my desktop, such as ones for eBay, Google, Amazon, etc.; however, they all have Edge's standard blue icons. This makes the whole group appear as a monolithic bunch of icons that all look the same and not so easy to read. Is there a way to change these desktop icons to the various websites' favicons, making them easier to see/read/use?

I think that you can right-click a shortcut, then choose "Properties," then click on "Change Icon." However, from there, I'm stuck, because it offers me the option of browsing to the icon I want, but I don't know how to get to any favicon that I might want.

It's easy to find those websites' favicons, using Google images, and I can then save them onto my desktop, but I don't know how to get them from there onto their relevant shortcuts. I think there is a cache, called something like "shell32.icon" or whatever, which holds icons, but I'm not sure if that's anything I want to mess with, because I'm fully aware that messing with those kinds of files can lead to disastrous results, such as the computer freezing up, the 'blue screen of death,' etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've noticed this odd text display on some sites, but not all, websites using Google Chrome. MS Edge displays the same text correctly. I also use Chromium browser on Ubuntu Linux which displays correctly as well. The website is Canonwatch. The font will display a single "f" okay but not double "ff"s. It seem to be a text bloggers type in, not the webpage's standard font.
Anyways, just seems weird. Any ideas?

Answer:Odd text size with Google Chrome, not with MS Edge

Things like this drives me crazy. I'll beat my head into a wall until I find an answer. No need for medics, I found an answer to my question.

I have no idea how to setup a webpage but I played with Inspect trying to understand. Using Inspect on this webpage under Styles I noticed a line that said font-family: inherit. When I used Chrome's Font Changer extension to override to a different font the new font was listed next to font-family instead of "inherit".

When seeing this I did some searches & found it recommended how to find the inherit font would be under Computed which stated / font-family: & listed "Helvetica Neue", arial, sans-serif as fonts. I remembered that I installed Helvetica Neue Bold on my PC long before trying Chrome. And, the font did have a bold look to it. Perhaps Helvetica Neue Normal would've displayed properly but I only had bold installed. After uninstalling Helvetica Neue Bold the font at this website displayed correctly.

I also checked MS Edge & it also listed the same inherit font options as Chrome did. Why it didn't use Helvetica Neue Bold I have no idea. I'm just glad I figured it out. Now I can stop beating my head!

I have had problems with Edge opening my Facebook etc very slowly. I even downloaded Firefox to see if it was faster. I prefer Chrome. It is much faster than Edge or Firefox. However, there is something weird happening. When I start my computer and tell Cortana "Facebook log in" it opens up with Chrome and some other pages but some pages open with Edge. Now I know that Outlook, my Hotmail, is a Microsoft product so I wasn't surprised that it opens with Edge but some other pages open with Edge and some with Chrome. Am I missing something. I went to Settings and looked where it says Browsers and it says that Chrome is my default. I gave Edge a 4 month chance. I had Chrome set as my default and Microsoft sent down a large update, it set Edge as my default. I got tired of the slow speed in opening my web pages, Facebook, etc. I only play one game in Facebook and Edge caused it to be so slow when playing it. I reset Chrome as my default and now the game is way faster. Getting to the web page is not the problem, using it once you log in is. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I sometimes get this sort of error in firefox and chrome

Firefox can?t establish a connection to the server at www.goodsync.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments
...
blah blah blah blah blah

But when I open the same URL in Edge it works - and after that it works in Firefox and Chrome.

When it happens, it's invariably at the most inconvenient time - e.g. on a link someone just sent me in an IRC connection.

Why is this so, and what can I do about it? Apart from ditching Firefox as my default browser in favour of Edge.

Fanx - pjd

Answer:Links work in Edge, but not in Chrome or Firefox

Hi pjd

When is the last time you cleared up your history, cache, cookies and both Firefox and Chrome? Please give that a try and see if error persists.

New, no good...back to HP...still has issues...call on phone, HP does remote "fixes", still lots of issues.
I often get "IE is not responding", HP said go to one of those others because "IE is no longer supported by msoft".

About 2 1/2 minutes to start, re-start takes a minute.....Longer. Then often wait while the homepage fills in. HP says that's "normal for a standard (not solid-state) hard drive". Freezes, freezes during startup. Keystrokes wont appear when typing. This is tip of iceberg, sorry to say I'm probably out $600, as the hammer is coming out soon, just too much aggravation.

Had Comcast here, both inside and outside a few times, checking/fixing/replacing.
But....as I said, is it worth a shot in the dark to try a different browser?

It never hurts to try a different browser, but have you tried a clean install on the system? I worked for HP for a few years and still buy their laptops personally. The first thing I do is back up the SWSETUP directory and then make recovery discs. Once that's done, I wipe the drive and install a clean version of the OS.

I do not have the option to click import my bookmarks from Google Chrome...the only option I have is IE which I don't have. I've checked everywhere without luck. Help.

Answer:How can I import my bookmarks into Edge from Chrome..don't have the option?

Don't take my word for it, but I'm pretty sure you have to save your bookmarks/favorites from the browser you're wanting to import (Chrome in this case) in order for Edge to find it.
Again, NOT certain, but I had saved my favorites from Internet Explorer from Internet Explorer before I started using Edge.

Chrome has started to crash regularly and after only a few minutes of use. Edge seems to work ok. I have Adblock & Kaspersky extensions along with the banking app Rapport. Up until now these haven't been a problem. I've uninstalled Chrome & re-installed it but it's made no difference. Can anyone advise please?

Answer:Chrome Keeps Crashing - Edge Works Fine

Rapport has been known to cause problems.

I have an odd issue with some fonts on the Chrome browser, but only when on a few websites, where some of the fonts look shorter than they should but when using the Edge browser all looks fine. In my attached example it is the lower case "f"s that are too short. There must be a setting in Chrome that I have not found & need advice how to fix the f's.

Any ideas besides switching browsers?

Answer:Odd text issue with Chrome but not Edge. How to correct?

A real stumper, eh? Found a fix!

Chrome offers an extension called Font Changer which will customize fonts at all websites, overriding their fonts to your preferred fonts. I set Font Changer to Helvetica & this change fixed the lower case "f" problem. All of this was odd because the issue only affected double "f"'s, not single "f"s. Note in my screen grab above under Google Chrome that the "ff"s in affordable are lower case but the single "f" in "f1.7" is normal. Odd, but Font Changer fix that!

Hello all-

I did a search and found some issues with zoomed video, but didn't seem to find anything specific to what I'm experiencing. Here are my symptoms and what I've done so far:

Symptom: on most Web sites, videos are zoomed in a few hundred percent, but it is NOT happening on YouTube. It IS happening on Facebook and some other sites I've been to. It happens in both Edge and Chrome and is only the videos on the pages and not the browser zoom function that increases/decreases the page content. Both browsers are set to 100% for this.

Troubleshooting: I re-installed the AMD graphics driver, cleared the browser caches, looked for settings in the AMD Catalyst center (nothing found yet).

Is it a Flash issue? I believe YouTube uses HTML5 and the videos look fine there. Not sure what Facebook does.

Hello,
Seems like my problem started when I downloaded Serif Photoplus starter; now, whenever I try to use Google Chrome or Edge, I keep getting Yahoo as if it has taken over. Tried going in and changing the setup, but it keeps coming back with Yahoo. Very annoying! Tried running scan with McAfee and Malwarebytes, but even though they found things, it didn't help.
Any and all help will be appreciated; thanks.

Chrome will not print//Edge prints fine
Found identical problem on your site - my situation matches all he experienced Except the solution that worked for him makes no difference for me. Please see the following closed thread rather than have me repeat all that that poster went through:
Solved: Cannot print from Google Chrome
(if I found it I assume you can find it faster)
His solution - that worked - was simply try Ctrl P.
Does no different for me.

W10. Again, works w/edge.

Tried 3 separate days - always printing (or trying to print) postage from BOTH Ebay and Amzn.

Sent problem to Chrome 'Problems' 3 xs; no response and no difference.

Thanx!

Answer:IE, Chrome and Edge disconnecting all devices from network

do you have any devices connected to the router by cable
do they disconnect - trying to see if just a wireless issue

if ALL devices disconnect including cable connected
then its the router , internal wiring or line /bt issue

how often does it disconnect ?
any pattern like time of day
is the router plugged into a mains socket or extension ?
any power issues at all ?

Hello guys. I've been testing Microsoft Edge in my laptop (Windows 10) with Ublock Origin installed, and i've noticed that when i visit the "dark side" ((torrent webs, cracks, serials, etc...) really it blocks a lot of popups more than Chrome with Ublock Origin, and its Smartscreen filter is really effective against malware. What's your opinion?

Answer:Microsoft Edge: better than Chrome blocking malware?

according to a few reports, yes, smartscreen is more effective than Google safe browsing
I can confirm that Google chrome's popup blocker absolutely sucks. It couldn't block even half of the popups I get. I have to install Popup Blocker (strict) extension to strengthen GC's popup blocker

ublock origin + ublock origin extra + popup blocker (strict) + avira browser safety => thumbs up

This just started. I have put a link in a word doc. I have made Chrome default browser, both in chrome and the computer. When I try to open the link I get a popup which I can?t take a screenshot of. It says: ?How do you want to open this website? Use an app, use the default browser, Microsoft Edge, always use this app to open www.google.com?. The only thing that responds in the popup is Edge. Everything else is grayed out and does nothing. I want my links to open in my default browser. How can I eliminate this Microsoft mess?

This is the link:
Google Maps

Answer:Link mess – Microsoft Edge vs. Chrome?

Recheck to make sure that Chrome is your default browser. Go to All settings/system/default apps/then in that window, scroll down til you see "Web browser" and make sure is shows "Chrome".

Any help much appreciated.  This started on 6/22/2016.
My stepdad installed a "driver finder" software thinking it was a Windows 10 driver for an old slide printer he had, and infected the daylights out of his system.  I have followed several of the malware and rootkit removal guides here on bleepingcomputer.com, None have worked, many hrelped.  I have run rkill (according to instructions) TDSS rootkit remover, adwcleaner, installed malwarebytes and purchased the pro license (on a clean machine). JRT.exeand now FRST64.exe

I had to take a break for a few days, so here is an example of Malwarebytes protectionlog, might give a clue to what is remaining on the system, still caussing redirects.  I have checked for easy stuff like a system configured proxy setting, there is none, I've reset both Edge and Chrome to defualt, no dice.  Still get redirected at random.  Malwarebyte is now stopping most of the redirects, but the ones that redirect to an s3 address it doesn't seem to stop - and those are usually scareware, claiming to be MS or the FBi shutting down PC, etc.  You know - bullbleep

I am trying to transfer from old XP machine to Win10 HP Notebook and would like to transfer bookmarks and other settings as easy as possible.  First attempt was Bookmarks from Chrome browser on XP to Edge on Win10.  I found import but only seems to allow import from browsers on same computer.  I have target and source on same LAN.

Is there a way to speed up Edge for web browsing as pages seem to take a while to fetch and load. Chrome is worse with added stutter.
I am using Avira, so not sure if that is causing the issue - are there any more suited antivirus software options?

Answer:Why is it so slow to fetch web pages - Edge and Chrome?

After upgrading to Windows 10 I have started using Firefox as my daily browser since Edge has been really buggy and does not support extensions while Google Chrome has been really flaky at times. I use Avast Free Edition as my AV for more than 4 years now and it has served me well.
