I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys well I just hope someone with some electronics knowledge in repairing notebooks would help me out in here.
I got a sager 5680 lappy, and when I plug the lap on AC power without the battery I turn on the unit and instantly goes off, ( I hear a low sparky noise like some sort of short circuit, when this happens the psu light dimms from rock solid ) .
Now if you leave the unit with the battery charging you may be lucky and the battery will charge and the only way the unit works is with the battery on it's bay, as soon as you remove the battery boom unit shuts off.

The Unit does work but only when you plug in a battery and when it charges if you leave it dunno a couple of nights never gets solid green

What I did :
==================

- Could the PSU be bad not throwing enough amps ? even if it shows voltage
on digital meter

- This lap has a separate voltage daughtercard for the battery I removed it when diagnosing this card goes
plugged onto the mainboard and here the battery gets plugged.

- Measured PSU voltage it's working fine 20volts DC

- Checked SMD fuse on motherboard , fine

- Dissasembled the entire unit ripped everything off that might me faulty

- I've read the AC plug sometimes get's broken and I retouched the solder points, once I did this, by miracle the unit started without the battery plugged on. But guess what after I assembled the unit then again , when on AC power alone turned on , and then went off . So I don... Read more

Answer:laptop not starting on AC , power light on , I press on button & goes off instantly

The power adapters and the power sockets have an extremely high failure rate in the Sager 5680 laptop. We have seen eight of them in our shop with identical symptoms. While still under warranty, Sager replaced those without a question.

The problem appears to be where the power meets the motherboard. New parts would need to be re-soldered into the system... expensive because it is very time consuming.

Sorry I don't have a solution for you. Working units are available on eBay, if you want to trace the problem between a working model and a failed one.

Just faced a rather strange issue, but not really an issue, just different system behaviour than expected. System:W520 Batteries:55++ connected27++ connected Power adapter:Unplugged No other accessories connected. Scenario:I was using the system till it power itself off due to low power (0% reached for both batteries). i.e. Ungraceful Windows shutdown. Then upon pressing the power on button, the LEDs flashes, no THINKPAD logo or BIOS message appears, system appears to then restart again, and the LEDs flash again...and loops until it was no longer able to even attempt to POST. Expected behaviour:Either display the message that says "Battery level is too low".OrDon't loop (this is the behaviour when only the 55++ battery is connected at 0%) Why does having the 27++ would make the system go through this looping cycle?

Answer:W520, 55++, 27++, unplugged from power adapter, 0% battery. Press Power button --> power up loops.

Hello Chatbox,

I can understand your issue very well, as there is no message comes on the screen which gives you information to plug the power adapter and prevent the laptop to get shut down.

You should install Power Manager software and then customize it as per your requirement.
The software can be download from the mentioned below web link.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8mu417ww.exe

Hope, after this laptop will not shut down automatically due to battery backup

Best Regards,
Tanuj

recently bought a Dell Inspiron 14 5459 on June 12, 2016 and first thing I noticed is that to turn on the laptop I need to press and hold down the power button at least for 3 seconds in order for the laptop to boot up, this seems strange, I brought up this issue at the Dell Store where I bought the laptop and the sales people there told me that they noticed this in most Inspiron models.  Is this normal?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 14 5459 power button needs 3 seconds long press to power up?

Hi, so I have had a powering issue with my previous power supply which was the Corsair CX600W so i purchased a newer power supply - the EVGA SuperNova G2 550W. I unhooked my old psu, hooked up my new one and the PC turned on and I turned it back off from the power button on the case. I also hava a boot drive problem so I unplugged the sata cables from my SSD and wanted to try to turn on the PC with only my HDD. I did this with the PSU switched off and the power cord unplugged. When I tried turning the PC on again the PSU made a clicking noise and nothing turns on. The motherboard Led's are lit up so it is definitely getting power but when I go to turn the computer on it just makes a quick clicking noise and nothing turns on. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I first logged out of my computer and came back and I noticed an orange light on the power button. I shut it of and turn it back on about two times with the same results of an orange light. I then shut of the the extension that houses 10 plugs. When I turned on the extension I turned on the computer the power button didn't give off a blue light or orange light. The VGA cable, mouse, keyboard, Ethernet cable are all plugged in. I later removed all the connects to the computer gave it a minute and plugged it all back in. There is a solid green light on the back under the power cable. The fans turn on there is noise coming from inside the computer a soft humming and light fan from the back of the computer. But the power button will not turn on. The monitor light is orange and says "No Input signal Input 2,Go to Power Save." When I switch to input 1 it reads "Cable Disconnected Go to Power Save." What internal issue could this be?

Hi every one,
Recently I purchased new PC,
After installing windows XP Pro SP3 I found that there is a missing button in Power option properties. The missing button is (When I press the sleep button on my computer), I can find only (When I press the power button on my computer).
My system configuration is as follow
Mother board Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
My graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5670
Windows XP SP3
RAM 4Gb Kingston DDRII
CPU Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz
It worth saying that I can shutdown, hibernate or put my PC into sleep mode, so the functions are working but only the button is missing.
I will appreciated very much if some can advise me how to restore the missing button. Is there some option in BIOS that will enable this button?
I contacted Gigabyte customer support, but they directed me to Microsoft, I also contacted ATI but they directed me to Microsoft or BIOS settings. In my BIOS I can't find any option that may affect this button. Any advise will be appreciated
Best regards

Answer:[SOLVED] Button of (When I press sleep button) is not available in my Power option pr

Does the case actually have a separate Sleep Button? I suspect it's not even connected, as the motherboard manual doesn't show a connection for a Sleep Button, only a Power Button.
Windows Power Options won't list it, as it doesn't exist.

If you have a Sleep Button on the keyboard, it might not be listed in Power Options either. That would be up to the Driver software to add that option. You may have to use the software that came with the keyboard to configure the sleep button on the keyboard.

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

Hi Wacky78900,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Y500 Laptop is not turning ON after playing game and turning OFF manually, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and check the issue. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

If the issue persists even after performing the Flee-Power and as the computer is in warranty, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance. Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

I have a custom built computer, been working fine for two years. Comes last week, a storm passed by my house and power went out. When I come home from work I try to turn it on and no joy. I remember that I had 7 years warranty on my corsair AX1200i PSU. So I did a warranty claim, comes today and put new PSU and still no joy. Things I have tried are, re-seat the RAM also CPU, only 1 RAM. And no joy. When I press the power button theres nothing. No lights no leds. When I press the self test button several times, once in a while I see lights and fans working. I tried Memok on motherboard and no joy. One thing I did notice was when I remove the 4 pin CPU cable from PSU, the self test works instantly but the power button still doesnt work. Nothing, also did jumper on power l, reset CMOS. Could this be my CpU fried? Or the motherboard? I still need to take it out from case and check for capacitors etc..

Specs:3930k i7 CPU LGA 2011 6 core.
Asus x79 TUF motherboard.
G. Skill sniper ram 32GB{4x8Gb)

4TB storage drive

258Gb Samsung pro ssd

Corsair AX 1200i

Corsair H100i Cooler.

I think ill just send in the mobo tor replacement since it has 5 years warranty. I hope its not my CPU...

Thanks for the help in advanced.

Ok so here's the situation :

my friend's PC suddenly stopped working something like a month ago. He took it to some local computer repair shop who diagnosed a dead mobo and PSU.

They told him his mobo was now impossible to find and since I could get my hands on one fairly easily he asked me to repair it for him.

So basicly I changed his PSU and ordered a new INTEL D865GLC Socket 478 (his mobo)... I just received the damn thing and even with the brand new mobo the PC does the exact same **** :

I press the power button and absolutely nothing happens, nothing! Even the fans stay idle . What could be the cause? I even tried shorting the POWER SW pins with a screwdriver to make sure it wasn't the case Power Button but in vain.

I tried swapping mem sticks, changing PSU, tried removing HDD, DVD drive and GPU... no help there either.

Could it be a dead CPU?

On my new E530 I've come to realize that I have to press the power button twice for the laptop to boot. At first, I thought I didn't press it hard enough or the timing was off or something, but after extensive testing, I've come to the conclusion that it is indeed mandatory that I press the power button TWICE in order the laptop to boot. My question being, is this normal/by design? Google has given been conflicting and inconclusive answers:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Thinkpad-Edge-E420s-start-up-button-issue/t...http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge/Power-button/td-p/307704 Can someone credible chime in here? Much appreciated and thanks in advance!

Hi guys, I have to press the power button twice on my X60 to boot up after leaving the laptop off for a couple of hours. The first press, the "Z" light & "Battery" light will stay on and nothing will happened. If I press again for the second time, then only the Windows will boot. The weird thing about this is that it only happens when I leave the laptop switched off for a longer period of time. There is no problem if I shutdown the window and press the power button again. Meaning I only press the power button once to boot up again during the short period of power off. Anyone can shed some light to this problem I'm having? My Laptop Specifications  Thinkpad X60Windows XP SP2   Thanks in advance,  Cheers,

Answer:X60 Have to press power button twice to boot up

Does anyone know how to reset the X60 system motherboard? I've tried the following tricks that I found in this forum but I think it didn't work coz the BIOS date didn't change:- 1) Remove battery pack and disconnect AC adapter, then press the power button for 30 secs. 2) Remove battery pack and disconnect AC adapter, press the power button 10 times and press for 30 secs on the 11th time.   I've troubleshoot of the following but the problem still persist:- 1) Leave the laptop overnite without hooking it to the battery pack and AC adapter. 2) Remove battery pack and Plug in only the AC adapter, then press power button, still no use coz have to press twice again. 2) Downgrade the Windows XP SP3 to Windows XP 2. 3) Remove all recent Windows Updates.  4) Online Update with ThinkVantage Update and the BIOS has been upgraded to 2.18 together with other ThinkVantage softwares/components. 5) Load the BIOS Default settings. 6) Change the Startup Booting Sequence. 7) Run the latest PC Doctor software and passed every test. 8) Remove the hard disk. Problem still continues, have to press the power button twice to get the Thinkvantage screen.   On the first press - All indicators light up and then went off - the "z" light is on and stable- the "battery" light is on and stable (if the battery pack is in place)- the "adapter" light in on and stable (if the AC adapter is in place)- I can hear t... I set my Dell Inspiron laptop (Windows 8) to sleep after 15 minutes (never to hibernate) whether on AC power or battery.
This allows me to take out my laptop from my bag, open the lid, enter my pin and get to work quickly.
One thing that baffles me is that when on AC power, I have to press the power button to "wake" the laptop out of sleep
instead of just pressing a key on the keyboard. The power button is this tiny chicklet metal button that is awkward to press.
Any way to set Windows 8 to wake on keypress when on AC power?
Thanks

Answer:power button press to come out of sleep

You do not find it in Power Options to change power button from doing it? Only know ways if using an external USB device. Should be a sleep button or one of the F buttons or Fn.

When you press the power button, instead of turning off, it just goes into standby.

Answer:Lapt top goes in standby when you press power button

RB_Kandy,The function of the power button can be changed in Power Options.Start (orb) ->Control Panel -> (view by: large icons) -> Power Options. I'm on a Vista laptop now because I'm travelling, so you may have to hunt a bit; however, on Vista, in the left column of Power Options is "Choose what the power buttons do."In Windows 7, you may have to choose advanced options for the selected power plan, then scroll down looking for "power button" option and set it to "Shutdown."I hope this helps.

A friend of mine has to press the power button twice to start his computer. The first time it acts like it's going to start up and then stops before window Vista loads . After he starts it again, it comes to the screen where it informs him that windows vista didn't start properly the first time and of course follows wiith the options. He simply clicks start normally and it then starts up. Any idea whats happening? Could his power supply be going?

Answer:Has to press power button twice to start computer.

Does this happen the exact same way every time as you describe it or can it take longer/shorter for it to require a second boot? This would help to indicate whether it's a power issue or something perhaps hard drive related with loading system files on vista startup. Try getting into safe mode on the first try and see if this still happens, and if it does not then it is probably a system file issue and would need to run chkdsk.

I know you guys are good on this forum because you have helped me with numberous issues over the last 10 years or so. Any, my HP Pavillion P7-1020 sjust started to act up a little. In the MORNING ONLY, I have to push the power button twice. The first time I push it hte light turns on then off. I push it again and the PC boots up like it should. Over the past few weeks, I have inserted a Blue Ray writer and then changed the cable from VGA to DVI-I. That is when it appeared to start the issue. It does not seem possible that the DVI cable would cause this unless the software on the onboard PC changed. About 4 months ago, I added an additional USB card to give me more slots. had no issues after that. Its only been recently after the Blue Ray. Just wondering where I should start first. Is is a cmos battery going bad. Is it not enough power from the PSU or am I starting with a new issued.
Looking forward to seeing responses. Because its a morning issue only, this may take a while to solve if I have to start disconnecting things. That is why I want you opinion on a place to start.

Try doing what I call a soft reset of the BIOS. This can be useful in some situations to resolve hardware conflicts Here's how......1. Unplug the charger / adapter 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that didn't resolve the problem then I suggest you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service.  From what you have described there is a hardware problem with the laptop that needs fixing. You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

Answer:Windows 7 hangs and have to press power off button

Just after sorting errors in event viewer I found that in this month I am having some kind of event id 41 kernel-power error.
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Now what is this? Is there any problem with the power settings or the AC adapter? Abnormal electricity?
Can anyone help???

What’s wrong? why would it turn off again? Any ideas?

Answer:Computer Cuts out when i press the power up button!

Title says it all really. I haven't been able to shutdown my PC for a few months now without holding down the power button for a few seconds. I used to just leave my PC in sleep mode but, when this first started, it would often turn itself off instead of sleeping or enter sleep mode instead of turning off. It's not a major issue, granted, but it is still an annoyance that I would rather have fixed. If aynone knows the steps to attempt to remedy this I would be very grateful!

Answer:PC will not shutdown without continued power button press.

If the lid on my computer is closed for a couple of hours or more, opening the lid DOES NOT bring the computer out of sleep mode. I'm assuming that it's in sleep as it wakes almost instantly but simply opening the lid should do that. If the lid has only been closed for a few minutes, it will start up if you open the lid. I have another UltraBook running Windows 10 and you can raise the lid after a couple of days and the computer will come to life but on my new x360 I have to press the power button? Power is set to sleep when the lid is closed.

Answer:power button still shows power after system shut down in ideapads510p

I have been having this same problem. I called Lenovo using the number in the documents supplied with the computer. The representative recommended the following procedure:unplug the power cord if attachedremove the batterywith the battery still out and the cord still unattached, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds or morereplace the batterypress the power button to restart the computerafter this restart has completed, manually restart the computer from the screen (which should be working properly now)This has worked for me the two times I encountered the problem you describe.  This has been an intermittent problem for me. I would like to get a permanent fix for the problem though. If anyone has a permanent fix for the problem, please let me know.  I hope this helps out!

Hi folks,

I write here because I've a problem...
My Satellite PRO 4600 of 2002 doesn't turn on anymore.
It shows a flashing amber light when I press the Pwr On switch...
I'm an electrotecnic, so you can explain me the problem.... thanks :)

Davide

Answer:Satellite Pro 4600 amber light flashing if I press the power switch

It sounds like a mainboard problem?

Try to remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery and then wait one hour. Connect the AC/DC adaptor and the battery. Now try it again.

Does this happen if with battery and/or AC adaptor?

This problem only started around last week, but I have also had it in the past.
Whenever I shut the lid of my laptop (which I have set for the laptop to to enter sleep mode), it seems to sleep normally (i.e. the fan turns off and the power button blinks to indicate the laptop is still on). However, it actually shuts itself off.
This also occurs if I let the computer idle until it would normally enter sleep mode, or if I press the power button (without holding it down).
In power settings I have the laptop set to go into sleep mode when I shut the lid or tap the power button, under all battery conditions. I have tried resetting the power settings, and have already used the system file checker to check for corrupted files (of which there were none). I have also used the power troubleshooter to fix issues and nothing happened.
I use an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible, and I run Windows 10 Home Edition (64 bit).
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:My laptop shuts down when I close the lid or press the power button?

In the left lower corner search type power and open power and sleep settings > on the right pane click additional power settings > choose what closing the lid does > click change settings that are currently available > uncheck turn on fast startup

post an image into the thread

reboot and evaluate sleep and hibernation

recheck fast startup

reboot and evaluate sleep and hibernation

report into the thread any changes in sleep and hibernation.

I have for a long time, used the chassis's power button to shut computers down; there's nothing wrong with that, Windows has be designed to do this for a long time.

What I've noticed though, is that every time I use the power button, I get a critical error in event viewer: Event ID: 41 Kernal-Power 'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly'.

Thing is, the system appears to shut-down perfectly fine!?

Any help would be much appreciated!

See system spec for config.

Hi,

Please could someone point me to a way of making it so that when I press the Power Button on my Windows 10 desktop that the computer will power down without me having to click with the mouse to turn off various programs or clicking the "restart anyway" button that appears. I managed to do this with windows XP in the past. I think it might have been a registry alteration?

Thanks for any advice?

Answer:Switch off PC without mouse clicking when press the Power Button

You can press power button any time to power down the computer . But it is not recommended .for several reasons one is that something may be running in the back ground The proper way to shut down a computer is to click the windows button in the bottom left then click power then it gives you three options -Restart, Sleep, Shut down. That is the only way I have ever known to power down a computer

Answer:Satellite L20 - Orange LED blinks if I press the power button

Hi

Strange but it could be a hardware malfunction.
But first of all you should try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Then wait up to one hour and connect both devices again.

If it doesn?t work it could be a mainboard problem or something else. I would recommend contacting a notebook technician.

this is the second time I got called to drive three hours to a customer's location to turn on a server that mysteriously gets turned off.

it has redundant power supplies in working order.
can confirm no long term power outages.
nothing in the event viewer of interest.
checked the dump file location and no dump files exist (configured properly)

the only thing I can come up with is that some jerk off is actually turning it off or screwing with the cords. if its the latter what bothers me is that when I got here today and last time the power cords were connected and the server didn't automatically turn back on once power was "restored".

I like $.52/mile as much as the next person but these trips are starting to become obnoxious. ideas?

Hello,

I have problem with my NB205 bl-325, that if I press power button then it will load TOSHIBA logo and after that comes blank screen and it wont start to boot. Everything was okay if i used it last time.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

What I tried?
I gathered some information about that issue, and I found that sometimes helps if I remove battery and remove RAM. And if I have been removed ram, then I will give some electritvy on it, but this didnt helped. (maybe i missed some part)? Also i checked from my BIOS that primary boot is my Harddrive.

My problem looks same like in that video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCm6BozBgAM&feature=related

Does anyone have any suggestions about that?

When I press power button to unlock the phone the screen wont responds. The display remains off. After pressing the power button twice the phone becomes active for unlocking.
This issue happens randomly. Like in a day I might encounter 5 to 10 times. And it depends on usage. Surely its not continuous ..
Can anyone guide me in this regard. Its the defect with device ?
Thanks in advance.

Recently purchased the Aspire TC-705 desktop. Everything is fine. But I do have question on the power button light behavior that puzzles me. On occasion the power button will continously blink white while the system presumably goes into sleep mode but sometimes it will not blink but instead exhibits the stead white light. So the question is: Why does this desktop power button light blink and sometimes not while in sleep mode?" Running 8.1 windowsset to turn off display after 10 minutesset to turn off disk after 20 minutesset to enter sleep mode after 30 minutes

Answer:TC-705 Power button light

If the power light isn't blinking, then it's not in sleep mode.  Your monitor might be in sleep mode, but your computer isn't. There's several things that can prevent your computer from sleeping at the designated time (with inactivity).  One of the most common culprits is Windows Media Player (multimedia).  You can check your advanced power settings to change "prevent idling to sleep".

Question: power button light

Whenever I shut down my laptop, the power light doesnt go off everytime. It goes off 1 in 10 times. Rest of the time it remains on and if I dont notice that whole of the battery is consumed.I have to press power button to switch it off most of the times after giving shut down option

Answer:power button light

Dear Customer, Try the following. Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU... When the installation has completed, restart the notebook. When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

Hey guys, just a shot in the dark question, but:

I put a fresh install of windows 7 64-bit on this PC I built for my sister, and everything appears to go fine. However, after updating the bios, and installing the gfx card drivers, she tells me that when she presses the power on button, she gets a blue screen, the computer reboots, and then everything is fine.

Ideas as to what that might mean? If this is too little to go on, I'll head over there asap and go through the whole process, I just want a starting point.

Thank you for your time

Small edit: the system specs of my profile are the ones for her computer.

Hi all.  My Y470 wakes up automatically when i press the power button (which is assigned for sleep) and then I close the lid.  I can see it wakes up after 3 seconds soon i closed the lid.   On the other hand, when I close the lid directly (without pressing power button), it goes into sleep and stays in sleep until when I reopen the lid.  What would be the reason.  I searhed for all Advanced Power Option, but I couldn't find any useful.   --Ajay.

Answer:Y470 wakes up automatically when I press power button and then close the lid.

If you're using the the RJ-45 cable, you need to disable the wake-up functionality on your network adapter. Go to the Start menu and right-click on Computer, then to Properties. Click on Device Manager, drop down the Network adapters menu and double-click on Broadcom. Click on the Power Management tab, and uncheck "Allow this device to wake the computer" (or go to the Advanced tab, scroll down for Wake Up Capabilities, and set the value to None).

Hi everyone,

I'm a big dumbie and accidentally spilt a tiny (and I mean minuscule) amount of water that ended up trickling into my PC. Whoops. It wouldn't turn on after that so I thought maybe the graphics card was shot.

It wasn't the graphics card. The graphics card is fine. I replaced the motherboard, and in the process, the PSU died. I replaced the PSU, now I get the blue screen of death every time after boot that says "Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer."

I'm assuming I get that message because I had tested the hard drive while trying to figure out what was damaged by the water in another computer, and it worked fine.

I reseated the battery in the motherboard to reset the CMOS. I reseated the CPU to fix a 'CPU fan error' message that was occuring (bent CPU pin). I moved around sticks of ram., only used one stick, different slots, both sticks, different slots.

What do I need to do to get my computer working again?

Here's what I have (that I think is relevant):
Power Supply 500 Watts
RAM 8GB DDR3 SDRAM / 16GB (Max)
Hard Drive 1TB - SATA III - 7200 rpm
Motherboard Chipset ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 5Gb/s USH 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Thank you for any and all help.

do you mean a single beep, or multiple beeps? These codes will identify the issue.

Specifically with Dell desktops, you can refer to these beep codes:
1 beep: BIOS ROM corruption or failure
2 beeps: RAM not detected
3 beeps: Motherboard failure
4 beeps: RAM failure
5 beeps: CMOS Battery failure
6 beeps: GPU failure
7 beeps: Bad CPU

Additional Dell error information can be found here.

1. Plug the computer into a power strip that has an on/off switch. Turn the power strip on. Press the computer power on button to start as normal, but after after one second turn off the power strip switch just long enough for the fans on the computer to slow down, but the amber computer led doesn't turn off and then turn the power strip switch back on. Computer should start and run fine. Computer typically can be shut down for up to 5 minutes and restarted normally--any longer and you have to sue the power strip power switch routine again.Click to expand...

Hi,
Vostro 460 Mid Tower system, circa May 2012, Core i5-2400, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
I noticed that recently the light in the power button is completely out. No blue, no amber, no steady, no blinking light - nothing.
Other than that, the PC works just fine. Turns on, runs, everything else is fine.
It's just a little disconcerting, because when it goes into powersave, there's no visual indication that the computer is on.
Any thoughts about what this might be? Loose connection to the motherboard? Are power button LED's in the Vostro 460 known to burn out?
Thanks

Answer:Vostro 460 - No light in power button

Led is burn out. You can grab a similar LED bulb and replace the old one. This will be a simple soldering exercise.

the power button remains lit with a yellow/amber color. What could be
causing this?

It just started happening yesterday. The only way to get the computer
back up is to unplug it and plug it back in. Pushing the power button
when it is like that does not work.

It is an e-machine, 2.7 GHz Intel Celeron, 80 GB with 1G Ram and I have
Windows XP

Answer:Power button light stays on??

How are you shutting down? Just hitting the button? Has the machine been configured to go into standby when that happens, instead of powering off? Does it work when you click Start --> Shut Down, and select Shutdown?

Here's how to check:

1. Right-click on the desktop
2. Select 'Properties'
3. On the 'Display Properties' dialog, select the 'Screen Saver' tab
4. Under 'Monitor Power' press the 'Power' button
5. On the 'Power Options Properties' dialog, select the 'Advanced' tab

The setting we are looking for is listed here under 'Power Buttons'. If this is set to standby, it will generate the symptoms you are experiencing.

Try replacing the control strip above the keyboard.  http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=2663&prevaction=category&previd=141&prevstart=0

What  will happen if I remove the battery of a laptop and press the power button for 30 seconds??
Can anyone explain me in detail please!

Answer:What will happen if I remove the battery of a laptop and press the power button for 30 seconds??

It is a system reset - it resets the firmware to factory defaults.  If something is stored in CMOS that's preventing a boot, it will clear that -- it's a last ditch effort to confirm the fault lies elsewhere (usually with the mainboard).

My husband and I have the same identical laptops. His wakes from sleep mode by pressing a button on the keyboard or moving the mouse.  Mine does not.  I can only wake it by pressing the power button.  I have reset to default power settings and it still doesn't work.  I have gone through keyboard properties and have found nothing that says anything about sleep or wake.  The power button wires have severed (which is normal for this junky laptop, or so I hear) and so in order to turn it on and off, I have to press the wires together.  In order to avoid doing this often, I wanted to put my computer in sleep mode and be able to wake it up with the keyboard.  But, as mentioned above, I am unable to.

I bought this laptop few days ago and from the beginning i noticed that light around my power button is not working.

so now i'm in dillema to return it or not?

Everything else is working fine, but because of it's price i expected to work properly.

And what may be the reason for that?

Tnx

Answer:Satellite P50-B-103 - light around power button is not working

As far as I know the power button or to be more precise, the margin around the power button should be lit / illuminated.

In my opinion its not serious issue but if it?s a problem for you and you are not satisfied with that, I would recommend you to contact the dealer in order to replace the unit.

Greetings

To be clear, my PC turns on and seems to run exactly as it should, so this is possibly more of a cosmetic/superficial issue. The little light located on the power button no longer lights up when the PC is powered on. Strangely, the light still blinks on and off as it should when the PC is in sleep mode, so the light still has some functionality. My PC is only a couple of months old, so I'm just a little concerned that this could be a sign of things to come. I hope that other components don't start failing on me.Does anyone here have any possible explanations? Thanks.

Hi all, I have a new ThinkPad E460, day old. One thing I noticed is that the power button has a small circle in the middle of it, however on pressing it, the small circle on the power button does not light up to a green light, like on the other ThinkPads. So my question is, is this supposed to light up to a small green light or is the abscence of the small green light normal behaviour. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:ThinkPad E460 Power button light

it is normal, there is no led under power button

i remember that the light on the power button once workedbut for a while I realized that no longer lights .I can send the laptop under warranty just for that ? or I can fix it myselfI tried to raise the bar of the button but could not find how to do..

Answer:power button light not work anymore

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

The power button light is incorporated right into the motherboard circuitry and it is not something the owner can repair. Chances are the Lenovo Service Center will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix the problem.

As for Lenovo Support fixing the problem under warranty, that question would be best asked of the service center in your country as I can not answer that.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

T420 thinkpad light Power button flashes intermittently every second. the CPU cooler not turn on, nothing happens. which can be Tests which can do?

Answer:T420 thinkpad light Power button

Hi Decesaro,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Is the machine logging into windows? If so request you to run the LSC test i.e. Lenovo solution center. Launch LSC, once you are in the Lenovo diagnostic page at the left side of the LSC home page you will see an option called checkup clikc on the option > hardware scan > Run scan.

Here is the link to download the LSC in case if you do have the one.
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd022501

Once you finish the test it will show is there any hardware issue or software issue with the machine.
Also, please let me know whether the machine is getting heated?

Please write back, whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Regards,
Naveen.v
