Alienware 17 R3 - not charging during game play even though it is plug

Question: Alienware 17 R3 - not charging during game play even though it is plug

When playing games, the computer drains the battery and noticed that the battery is not charging based on the icon at the bottom right, after ignoring it, the 10% windows warning of low bat appeared and it keeps draining because it is not charging. During this scenario, my power adapter is plug-in with lit on. I dont really know what is wrong with the unit because, if you close the game itself, it can charge normally. Im guessing that it doesnt produce power to the battery while charging at a game play.
another thing, contacted chat support and got remote support, he was connected and he was in another session then waited for 20mins. without solving anything. just wasted my time for 20mins.
any thoughts or solutions that i could do it myself? thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Alienware 17 R3 - not charging during game play even though it is plug

The power supply may not be putting out enough power to keep charging it while the computer is running games. This shouldn't happen, how long has this been going on? Is this a new computer? Has it ever worked right? You should contact Dell and let them know they need to do a swap of this power supply for you.

I just bought a microsoft plug and play game pad but it won't work with XP, I can't configure it. I can't belive that MS would sell a gamepad that isn't compatable with XP. I went to the sidewinder site but coundn't find a patch. Does anyone have alink to the sidwinder patch for XP. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,

Answer:Sidewinder plug and play game pad

Windows XP includes device drivers for the SideWinder Freestyle Pro, so your SideWinder Freestyle Pro will function properly on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP. However, the accompanying SideWinder software (version 3.02) will not function on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, so you will not be able to create profiles for the Freestyle Pro using the SideWinder software on Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Microsoft is not planning to update the SideWinder software (version 3.02) for game port devices.

If you connected the controller to a USB port using the USB adapter, Windows 2000 and Windows XP will automatically detect the device.

If you connected the controller to a game port, do the following:

Open Control Panel: Game Controllers. (Click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Game Controllers.)

From the General tab, click Add.

From the Game Controllers list, select Microsoft Sidewinder (Auto Detect), and then click OK.

Answer:Configuring Sidewinder plug and play game pad

MS Sidewinder Gamepad currently does not have a w2k or XP driver. I posted this same question in this forum 3 weeks ago.
That sucks.

I have a Sidewinder Plug and Play Game Pad that I use to play NHL 2002. At times either the game freezes and sends me back to my home screen or the game pad just stops working. I have installed the game pad and the game correctly I have lots of free space on my computer (Pentium 3 64.0 MB Ram). However when this happens I go into gaming options in my control panel and it says the pad is disabled or not connected. Even when I add it again it only works for a while and I'm back where I started.
Any ideas anyone???? It is very frustrating when trying to play the game. I have been told the game is massive and slows down the computer is that true as well????
Thank you!

So currently I have my PC connected to the printer with a USB cable and my 10 year old printer works just fine. I'm turning my desktop into a wireless desktop for the time being and going to install a WiFi pci card in the tower. Once I get my computer connected online wireless. So if I take the printer USB cable from the back of the PC tower and plug it into the back of the router will the printer work right away or do I have to setup the printer within the routers 192.... page ? or will I have to install any extra router software programs on the PC to get the printer to work ? I'm just wondering what my steps will be.

Answer:So if I plug my printer to my router will it be plug&play ?

It really depends on your router. Some routers do have that functionality and are "smart" enough to realize what to do with a printer attached via USB ports. Some may require you to configure it on the router's setup, and others may not let you network your printer at all that way. You should probably count yourself lucky if your router does it at all... my router has USB ports, but they're basically only good for charging a phone... they planned a firmware update to do more with them, but it never came through.

The most foolproof way to network a printer is to get a model with an Ethernet port or a Wi-Fi card built into the printer that's just designed for networking. Any computer on the network will then "see" the printer and be able to install drivers for it without the router having to be smart. Failing that, you might have to plug the printer's USB cable into a computer of some kind... but the catch is, it doesn't have to be very powerful or large. A $5 Pi Zero or a $30 "print server" off Newegg would do the job. Basically, any old computer lying around with USB ports could most likely work as a print server if it can be configured with CUPS and the appropriate version of Samba.

Hello All,

I just bought an Aloenware 14 with the following specs:

Windows 8.1 Pro
1 tb sata
256 GB ssd
16gb ram
Intel integrated graphics
NVIDIA gforce card

Ubuntu 14.04

While I was testing out the new racing game Assetto Corsa on my computer, I had not noticed that even though my battery was plugged in, it wasn't charging. Then my computer switched off. I reconnected the adapter but then the blue led on the charger went off.

When I take out the adapter, it glows blue, indicating that the charger is ready to charge.

When I plug it in to my laptop, it stops illuminating.

I have contacted dell support but I want to see if there is an easier way to fix it.
Thanks,

Over the last week, my alienware M11x laptop has refused to charge. Each time, the issue would resolve itself after a few minutes, but the problem has persisted for several hours now and my computer is now at 9% battery.

I have already tried removing, unplugging and and moving the AC adapter, none of which proved fruitful. I have also tried physically the battery (a pain, considering it is screwed in and behind the bottom panel), booting the computer without the battery, uninstalling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, replacing the original battery and booting once again, which accomplished nothing.

This computer was very expensive (one might say overpriced), and I am not willing or able to buy any expensive parts at the moment. Is there any way to fix this problem from where I'm standing?

How old is this system? If it is under 3 years I would contact Dell. There are several complaints about Alienware batteries if you google it.

REPOST - My battery went from healthy to dead in just 1 hour. I didn't finish with the last (deleted) post.

Short story:
In the morning I was on the battery. Later I saw "35% available (plugged in, not charging)". Unplug the laptop, everything died, power button doesn't work, plug the power back, start the laptop and see this:

Press F2 and check the bios:

Check the "Main" Tab, at the power adapter is recognised, but it only says "240W".
Went on Dell's support website, I did a battery test. I passed?!?! [Photo]
Did a motherboard test. I passed again... [Photo]
I did a full test and everything passes the test.

Help! My laptop doesn't work without the power cord being plugged into the wall. It is same as a computer now... The battery is now charging when the laptop is powered off as well.
Here is a battery report created by Windows 10 [Click]

Long Story:
In the morning I was on the battery working and stuff. After some time the battery light started to flash (low battery), I went to get the charger, plug it into the wall and plug it into the laptop. And I saw that the laptop was shut down. I was thinking that it went to sleep. Plugged the power cord, start the laptop. back to work.
Later. Went home, plug the power cord into the laptop, power it on, play games (with cooling pad). Exit game, check notifications, see that the battery icon is not full, put the mouse over: "35% available (plugged in, not charging)". Unplug ... Read more

Pretty much as it says in the title: as soon as I plug in any HDMI device to my laptop Windows tells me the video drivers have crashed, and I never get a video signal out. I've tried reinstalling drivers for the OLED, Intel 530 iGPU, and 1060 to no avail. The one thing that did work was disabling the HD 530 through device manager however that left me with some severe screen tearing, stuttering, and power management issues, as well as forcing the display at 100% brightness permanently. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on other potential solutions to this problem as this is a pretty severe issue for me.

I have had my Alienware 17 for two years now. I bought it for college and being a broke college student, I really don't want to have to replace anything on this already pricy and new laptop.  Around December, it started showing the message (plugged in, not charging) above my battery icon. This concerned me, but I could just wait the problem out and eventually it would fix itself. In March, this problem happened again and I was able to uninstall/reinstall the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery driver and it would charge again.
Well, I have this problem again and now nothing I have tried will fix it. I tried draining the power, I tried removing the battery/AC Adapter and holding in the power button for 30 seconds, but that didn't work. When it boots up, it shows a message saying that it doesn't recognize the AC Adapter. However, my PC is only running on power from an AC Adapter that apparently it doesn’t even recognize. If I even unplug my laptop, it shuts down.
Giving it time hasn’t helped, reinstalling the drivers hasn’t helped, and my BIOS is completely up to date. This is extremely frustrating because this is supposed to be a high performance laptop, and it is only two years old. I rely on this for programming, running my virtual machines upon other things while attending classes at my university. With an intense semester coming up this fall, I have to get this back in prime condition. I’m not sure where to go from here...is ... Read more

Answer:Alienware 17 Plugged in, not charging/AC Adapter not recognized

It's an adapter, jack or mainboard problem.
First thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter.
If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
or
www.parts-people.com/index.php
If that doesn't do it, the problem is with the charge circuit and the mainboard will need to be replaced.

Hello,
problem with my Alienware R2 13 - I replaced motherboard (bought refurbished one from parts & people) and now the battery is not working. It is visible, charging (it took her almost 3 weeks to get her to 100%) but when i unplug the charger, laptop turns off automatically.
Bios is updated, battery health - performing normally, AC adapter 130W
I did the DELL test (when you press Fn while turning on laptop), battery health is 96%.
I also run the 60 sec test (powercfg will enable a trace for 60 seconds)..

I was given a nextbook several months ago. I don't know how to tell details like what version it is. It says manufactured Sept. 2014, and has serial number.

I do have operating system details though. It was upgraded to Windows 10 shortly before I received it.
My issue: No matter where I plug it in, directly in an outlet, or into a power strip designed for a computer, in a heavy duty power cord, the square plug part (not the cable to nextbook) gets hot. Not just warm, hot. So I can never get the battery fully charged, because soon as it gets beyond slightly warm, I have to unplug it. Worried about overheating and fire. I've never had anything likethis before, but I don't think this is normal.
I've included 2 images of the cable/plug. Also image of system info.

Any suggestions what the issue is and what I can do for it? My Computer just quit on me, so I'm relying on my nextbook until I learn if computer can be fixed or if it's a goner.

Yesterday I encountered a problem. My Dell laptop not charging. But is showing in notification area charger plug in but not charging. I check my battery heath from bios. It's showing battery health normal. But adapter type showing as a unknown. I am confused If my adapter is going to dead, then why it is showing "plug in" in notification area.

Please help to resolved that.

Answer:My laptop is not charging but showing plug in.

Right.. Well there's only a few ways to test this, but both involve a kind friend or money lol.

The free way is to borrow someone elses power supply. As long as its 19v and about 3a it should be fine.
If it charges off that, its your psu, if it doesn't, its possibly battery.

The other method is to take the battery out and get a vault meter on the terminals on the laptop. 2 of these in some combination should kick out 19v DC. If it doesnt then an internal fault could be to blame.

The 3rd is to ignore the battery health meter (as at the end of the day as long as it has a charge its going to say its fine) and buy a new battery.

Answer:Plug in , not charging Dell inspiron 15 5558

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter or does it show unknown?  F2 at powerup to check.
If the adapter IS recognized, replace the battery.
If the adapter IS NOT recognized, and is a non- Dell adapter, replace it with a Dell adapter.  If it's a Dell adapter and it's not recognized, replace it with a new Dell adapter first.  If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack in the system:

If that doesn't solve the issue, replace the mainboard.

My wife?s Sony Vaio PGC-9U1M, bought in June 2005 has developed a worrying fault. The charging plug that goes into the socket on the back of the Sony has become a loose fit, so much so that it has required some skill to get it into the best charging position. I?d noticed the plug and lead were starting to feel warm, but tonight I sat over it for a couple of hours whilst it charged continuously up to about 80%, but was shocked when I pulled it out and it was very hot, soft, and contorted out of shape. It has got some white gluey stuff that has set on it that looks as though it may have come from the female laptop socket.I?m wondering now if the heat has caused the looseness rather than the other way round.Even if the charging worked, it can?t be used because of the potential fire hazard. I?m sure when I disconnected it the lead and plug were close to meltdown, and a short circuit could have been disastrous. The battery was mildly warm, so it doesn?t seem to be a case of self combusting battery here.Anyone able to explain what?s going on here? Similar experiences?I suppose I?d better get it repaired before we go up in smoke. I?m not expecting much interest from Sony, and I have no extra warranty on it.

Answer:Dangerously hot Sony laptop charging plug.

Get it looked at for your own safety as it should not be getting that hot A WARNING it is not right.

HiI have U430 ideapad touch and it's been 3 months since I bought itNo i never set energy management thing and it's been charging fine up to 100%Problem occur this morning, battery say plug in and not charging. It's 96% now.I don't know where problem is...since it say plug in, I don't think it's adapter problem.I bought it through best buy so pretty sure I have a one year warranty...but I can't send it since I need it to use it....So I'm hoping it's adapter problem so I don't have to send it to support centerI tried unplugging adapter and power cord and restart, it all doesn't workEnergy management thing is all off, never knew it existed until I had this problem. So pretty sure it's not software problem. Let me know if you know any solution....

Answer:Battery plug in not charging U430 Ideapad

Dear JRC68

Welcome to Lenovo forums

you mentioned that it is saying plugged in not charging on 96%, so is it doing that only at this percentage or it is not charging at all no matter what is the percentage

also make sure that the conservation mode is off form the energy management

Thanks

I run Windows XP with P4 2.0 GHz and 256 of RAM, but when ever i play games online for a short time, my computer freezes. Also, when i play songs for say an hour or even less, the computer freezes. I don't know what is the problem. This happens at least twince in a day.

The other disgusting problem is that, at times, the computer goes off unceremonously whiles working. This also happens at least once in a day.

Buddies, i really need help to solve this problem.

Answer:My Computer Freezes when i play game online or play music

Sounds like a build up of heat, the most common cause of 'freezing' try running with the case side off and see if there is improvement, if there is you need to add more cooling, making sure your current fans are working properly and are clear of fluff and muck can improve cooling performance dramatically especially the CPU fan and heatsink.

I was reading kotaku last night, and I read about a new gamig netbook they'll release soon, the M11x. They're advertising it as the smallest gaming laptop ever, but what really catched my eye is that it will cost $1000 or less, making it the cheapest Alienware laptop/desktop. I've been in need for a new gaming computer for some time (my comuter is pretty old, I'm not planning to spend more money upgrading it!) so I might get this in the far-off future (a year ot two maybe?), or at least after I manage to get $1000.

Anyway, here are the specs I got from a few sites (there aren't many since it's still not in the market):
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
Graphics card: NVIDIA GT35M
Screen size: 11.6 inches
Resolution: HD 700p (1366768)
Battery Life: 2 hours gaming, 6 hours with simpler tasks like chatting, online browsing, etc.
Outputs: HDMI, DisplayPort or VGA

According to SlashGear "The netbook-sized ultraportable managed 6,000 to 7,000 scores in 3DMark, which adds up to 50fps performance in Crysis and 30fps in CoD at the highest settings"

I'm not much into gaming now, since from 2008 on every PC game was incompatible with my PC, so I don't really know the meaning of this stuff. Will this netbook be as powerful gaming-wise as the other alienwares, or at least as powerful as (non-alienware) high-end desktops? Will it be able to play all the PC games currently on the market? If not, what kind of game would not run?

I know that with th... Read more

Hello there,
I recently purchased an Alienware 15  laptop and I am beginning to regret that choice.  It is running Windows 7 Pro, has the i5 dual core processor, 16GB RAM and an NVidia GeForce GTX 965M GPU.  A couple of times it has blue screened on me, with either a "stop" error, or a "bad pointer" error?  And then last night while running Microsoft Flight Simulator X, a window popped up telling me I was "out of memory" and it shut the game off.  Windows was still running just fine.  I installed Speedfan to see what my temperatures were, and both cores were 55 celcius, however the GPU read 0 ?  Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?  The laptop is fairly new, however I hear dealing with Dell to get anything done is a nightmare, and I am still unsure whether this is a hardware or software issue.  Any and all help is appreciated.

I was troubleshooting why my daughters Yoga 13 would not charge battery and then stopped working even when plugged in.  If I left it sit for week or two till battery was 100% dead it would charge all the way up, soon as you turned it on it would work but over 1 hours or so drain the battery till dead and Yoga would die.  Here is what I found.  The green yellow and red wires must have been just touching in the heatshrink as Iifted the plug gently I could see they were broken at the solder joint.  I resoldered them then just to be sure it never happened again I hot glued where all 5 wires connect so never going to move.   Been working for over a month. :-)

When I plug in for charging battery then screen goes black? when I set the  power plan at HP reccommended)But  I set the power plan at high performance then this one is OK.Please advise me to resolve

Answer:laptop screen goes black when plug in for charging battery

Did you mean to say that it goes black for a second and then returns to normal? Your notebook sounds like one with switchable graphics.  My HP product loan Envy17-3002ea does that because I have the graphics power options set to automatically switch to the energy saving GPU when on battery.  If you don't want that to happen, just take the tick mark out of the box that say automatically switch. Then it will stay in high powered GPU all of the time, but will always use more battery power when on battery. This is a decision that only you can make.    regards, erico

Recenty I install Windows 8 to my laptop (Dell Vostro 3300). But When I plug in the adapter, it just a few seconds to charge and back to  not charging anymore. even when I shutdown and plug in, it still wont charge.
I already try to uninstall the ACPI driver and unplug, restart and plug in again. in fact, I already try all options that show when I google it.
I try to switch with other batterie and adapter from my friend with same version of my laptop, but  still it wont charge. please help me to solved this. thank you.

Answer:Dell Vostro 3300 in Windows 8 Not Charging When Plug In

Hi BILLY_SHN,
Are you using an original Dell adapter? Is the adapter frayed? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay in firm or does it fall off easily? Is there any charge on the battery available?
If the battery charge is more than 10% - then update the BIOS - http://dell.to/28ORaZe
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

I usually use my Yoga 2 Pro with AC Adapter plugged in. I turn on Conversation mode in Lenovo Energy Manager and get a message of "Plug in - Not Charging" everytime the battery is already 60% charged. Does it mean that AC electricity will directly serve to run the laptop without going through the batttery like a desktop computer?
I'm worried this habit will ruin my battery lifetime.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Yes, when the charge level reaches 60% and you receive that message it means the battery is no longer receiving a charge and the laptop is being powered by the AC adapter.

No, using conservation mode will actually extend the health of your battery which means the battery will have a longer life time.   It is the continually charging when the battery's charge level reaches 100% level that will shorten the life of the battery.

I plan to buy a tv tunner card... and I was wondering if you can connect a ps2, xb, or gc in to it...

and while I am on the subject, how can a console(not next gen) with only around 700Mhz, be able to power such high graphics, and a pc(mine for example) with around 2-3 times the hardware power can only compair and often be surpassed, (my obvious reason is because of the OS that is constantly running...) any other explainations...?

back to the tv tunner card..., any suggestions on which one to buy, I only want to spend around $35, maybe more if its worth it... and what should I expect... I have never used one before, and I have been wanting one for a while, and as far as I have been told, it will play nicely with my 6600gt...

Question: No Plug and Play

This is an update to my last post, since then, the system crashed and have only just got back on line.
I have an IBM Thinkpad 240, model 2609-21U with Windows ME and am using a Micro Solutions Backpack bantam CD ROM external drive model 181100, parallel port connection.
Some months ago I attempted to load Office XP, this did not fully install and "unrolled" itself. This action somehow corrupted the registry and would not reboot even into 'safe mode.'
I finally got into DOS and ran scanreg. Then I ran configsafe, this has got the machine running but will not read the parallel printer port LPT1, USB or the IR ports. All else seems OK.
When I reload the backpack driver, it loaded in the control panel under a SCSI device manager with a conflict, when I rebooted using the 'safe mode', the control panel seems correct, but then I am in 'safe' mode and cannot access the CD-ROM.
At the moment the backpack driver loads into it's own folder in device manager, not under cd-drives, there is no cd-drive folder.
When I try to print, the paper keeps feeding through the printer continuously without printing.
The only conflicts I can find are :-
IRQ Holder for PCI Steering Device ID PCI\IRQ Holder\60 error code 22
I was also getting :-
Environment variables were found in the legacy files autoexec.bat and/or config.sys and the variables were moved to the windows registry. ---but this has now gone.

I thought that Plug and Play involved the plugging in of devices whilst a pc/laptop was on, and did not need restarting of the machine.
isn't that the definition of plug and play

Question: Plug and Play

Windows 98 hangs on boot screen at plug and play then when you reboot again it take you into config screen. Does this mean that the plug and play is disabled and need to be enabled. How concerned should I be in here I'm afraid I could mess things up. Then it asks for you to choose F10 and select yes to save changes!. OH BOY!

Answer:Plug and Play

d.a.,

You could mess things up, but you won't if you don't mess with what you don't know about.

And if you DO change something and get scared, then DO NOT SAVE. If you exit without saving, then 'No Harm, No Foul'.

At this point, I'm not sure what the problem is, but LOOK through the BIOS...it will be a good learning experience...and when you find the entry that says, "PnP Op/Sys installed" it should say Yes. Win 98 is a PnP Op/Sys.

One unanswered question on my mind is when did this start to happen and what did you do or change JUST BEFORE it began?

Question: No plug and play?

When I was installing Windows XP SP3 on this computer, I received a notice that the installer couldn't find a specific file, but I was able to skip over it and resume installation. I received this notice when I installed Windows on another machine but this time looked it up and was able to find the file on the CD (don't remember the file name...).

On the first computer, it seems like a lot of plug and play functionality doesn't work...specifically when I hook up my Creative Zen (MP3 player) or even Blackberry. I am unable to transfer files to or from these devices through Explorer like I can the other computer in which I did a thorough installation of Windows. I am also unable to update Windows Media Player, which could or could not be related.

Is it possible the file I skipped over is what's causing this issue? Is there any way I can repair Windows or do I have to re-install?

I recently put a new 30 Gig harddrive on an old pieced together computer. When I loaded windows on it, it didn't find any PnP devices and said that it was missing drivers and for other devices. I took the same hard drive out and put on another computer and it worked fine and located all my PnP. What's worse is that my old 6 Gig harddrive that i was replacing will not boot up anymore except in safe mode. I tried replacing the motherboard with a new one as well with no success. Same results. A tech said when he looked at it that the IDE cable was not plugged in correctly. He turned it around and said it would be fine. Needless to say, it is not. It now gives a blank black screen. Would windows have installed with the cable in wrong and why did my board recognize it? Any ideas???

Answer:win 98 se and plug and play

Had the cable been in wrong, then no it would not have recognized it, would not have therefore allowed you to install..and then subsequently boot into safe mode...

It appears that either the tech lied because he/she didn't know much or if the tech did put the cable on wrong then I fear for the current state of your sys. board...Most new cable connectors are such that they will only go on one way...Otherwise, they would have to be forced and would break/bend pins...
Was this warranty work? I would contact the manufacturer and the authorized service center manager that sent that tech. regardless of whether your cable is on correctly or not because the simple truth is that it was not repaired and the services were paid for...BOL

THE PROBLEM:The computer doesn't work with "plug and play" checked in the services (msconfig). When "plug and play" is checked, the computer's CPU runs at mostly 100% non-stop. When I uncheck it the computer works fine but then nothing plug and play works.

The trouble started after I clicked on a fake facebook link through email. My antivirus (Avast) asked to abort and I did. But, later the computer started doing funny things like the firewall turning off, some wierd icon in my user accounts (control panel), and the 100% CPU lockup. Update: the firewall works fine now.

I've tried to restore but it's not working.
I've tried to use the recovery system CD but I don't have the admin password (don't know how I forgot it and tried everything).

Any help would make me very greatful!!!! I've already spent about 14hrs backing up and trying to find a solution.

Sorry.. I forgot to mention windows XP is up to da... Read more

HiWhen I disabled my Plug&Play I don't seem to be able to start AOL ie get a connection on Broadband.I can't see how this should affect connecting to AOL. To ask and get help on this from AOL is like asking for it to rain in the desert and winning the lottery all on the same day. Can anyone offer up an explaination.Regards

Answer:AOL and Plug & Play

If you are using AOL 9.0 run Computer-Check-Up and Broadband Check-Up this should solve your problem.

Question: Plug and Play

Does anyone have any thoughts about the below statement? It's from MS Windows XP Inside Out by Bott, Siechert and Stinson. I'm getting conflicting information. In XP Annoyances by David Karp, it says just the opposite---make sure the BIOS is set to Plug and Play.

Any comments or insight would be greatly appreciated. When in doubt should I enable PNP or not?

"After verifying that you're running the most recent BIOS version, use the BIOS setup program to select the "non-Plug and Play operating system" option. This advice may seem counterintuitive-after all, Windows XP is indeed a Plug and Play operating system. However, this setting was intended for use with earlier Windows versions, and if it's set incorrectly it can prevent the Windows XP boot loader from accessing devices at startup. "

Answer:Plug and Play

Chances are it will make no difference. XP overrides many BIOS settings, IRQ's, and memory resource assignments.

I would tend to think that setting Plug and Play active would prevent conflicts between what resources were assigned if the BIOS' assignments differed from XP's preferences.

If there is ever a booting problem such as he described, just enter BIOS setup and try it the other way .

It goes through the drive search and says could not be installed. These hard drives I am trying to connect to doesn't need drivers. So why is this hardware search coming up and why can't I connect to my usb hard drives????

Hey guys,

I am going to put in my new Video Card tonight, just to see how it looks.
When I remove the old one, put the new one in, and boot up, it should detect it correct?
What will it display off of? I load the drivers before or after I log in?
Thanks in advance!
