I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys, sorry if this has been answered but I'm not finding it anywhere or anything that helps from my googling and forum reading...

Here's my problem, summed up...

I upgraded from W7 to W10 a few months ago, everything was well (incl MS Ofc) and then recently I ran into some spyware issues that I had to do a "Reset Computer" on W10. So, obviously it removed all my programs (or apps, as they call it now) and I went to reinstall my MS Office Pro 2010 from the .exe file I have saved. I tried it 3 times at least and it keeps running into the "encountered a problem during setup" error. So, I found a different download on Microsoft and tried that several times to no avail, same error. So, I tried disabling AV and such things and still, error. From some things I read with other users that had this issue dealt with .net framework and such, but they were all running W7. I have no idea how to fix this problem on W10. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions, please? I appreciate any help in advance.

If you have the product key, MS can help you via download or if you have the disc. Not sure the disc you created can work.

I have been trying to install Microsoft Office Standard 2010 for two days on my laptop running Windows Vista. Every time I try to install it I get an error message that simply says "Microsoft Office Standard 2010 encountered an error during setup." That's it. No error code, no description of the problem. I have tried many solutions I've found on Google, but nothing works. I have uninstalled my Office 2007, and even taken steps to ensure that it was completely removed. I've also renamed the Microsoft Help folder, and tried some "fix it" programs on Microsoft's web site. I cannot find the right solution anywhere. I know it's not my copy of the installation disk, because I installed it on my Windows XP netbook earlier this week and had no problems (I have multiple licenses). Does anyone have an idea?

Answer:Microsoft Office Standard 2010 Encountered an Error During Setup

Have you used the microsoft office removal tools that Microsoft offers on it's site.
You'll have to google for these because I don't know the exact link.
I ran these because I have rests of other MS Ofice installtaions on my disk, and yes the error codes are just as clear as a foggy day in London.
You could also use a tool like CCleaner to have it chekc the regsitry for invalid items.
Good hunting, it's a nuisance

...and won't install

Right...where do I begin. I'm using an oldish PC with xp sp2. I downloaded and used some utils from this excellent site to try and increase it's performance (namely ccleaner, taskfree and complete clean up).

I found that after running these programs Office stopped working (I don't know whether it is related to those programs) saying that it was not installed for that user, or words to that effect. I spoke to an IT guy at work about this and he told me to unistall office totally then try reinstalling it - i did this following instructions from the microsoft site.

On reinstalling I was presented with the 'Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 encountered an error during setup' message. I've tried loads of 'fixes' from different forums and from microsofts site and nothing has worked.

Has anybody got any ideas of a way to sort this problem?

Hi

Try this if not done so already, download and install the Office Installer Cleanup Tool and once run remove anything that mentiones Microsoft Office, then run CCleaner to delete the temp folders so that no Office installer temp files are stored, reboot then install Office again

I keep getting an error saying that "Microsoft Office Small Buisiness 2007 has encountered an error during setup" when trying to install Office '07, the installer goes halfway and then just goes to that screen. No error code, just a dummy message. Thanks Microsoft.

It was installed earlier, but Outlook started acting funny, so I tried to uninstall, it wouldn't so I had to manually uninstall it, and now it won't reinstall.

I can give more details later. It's REALLY late right now.

Hi there!

Well, after reseting the PC to factory settings and reinstalled my drivers, I'm encountering a nasty problem... I?m just unable to install office 2016 in Windows 10, just when it's about to finish, stops, reverts all and says there was an error installing the suite...

I could install this in build 1511, no problems, but here this happens... I tried compatibility modes, using the office cleaning tool, but no avail, I even have all the VC runtimes installed... I'm tryinto install 64 bit version.

Please guys, any advice on this? I really need office for doing my job!

Thanks in advance

Try installing 32bit option - you really do not need 64bit unless doing some mega powerful stuff.

Hi there

I'm using a desktop on a LAN and now when I get into outlook I'm getting a "Metered connection" warning and a prompt to "connect anyway".

Really annoying this -- I'm on a totally unlimited broadband package and this only seems to happen on one machine. On another laptop same program (Office 2016) on Same Lan doesn't issue message.

Any ideas anybody --I've switched off as a test every setting I can find for WIFI - still get that annoying message.

I've re-booted and reset the router --still the same B/S.

Windows XP Home SP3

Hard to know where to start with this one.

The other night I tried to start Windows. The start up screen froze, and the mouse, and what sounds like the fan came on strong and constant. lately I've had a lot of this over use of fan for prolonged periods, especially after a long session or when downloading. Seems unnatural.

So the only way to switch off was holding the start button for 5 secs.

Restarted OK.

Next day the same freeze, manual restart, this time I got a corrupt SYSTEM file in c:\windows\system32\config, and pc remained in DOS. All I could think to do was to go in via Recovery Console and TYPE the SYSTEM and SYSTEM.SAV files. The 1st was very different so I copied the .SAV over to SYSTEM.

This time I got further, to the Windows start screen but then it goes into Windows Setup mode and the fan goes mad again. It purports to have passed the collectiong info, dynamic update, prep installation stages and to be on Installing Windows. This happens incredibly rapidly (ie you don't see these stages - the screen 1st appears on this stuck stage)
Fatal Error dialolg comes up "An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. Internal Setup data structures are corrupted (phase 0)". OK to view setup log then cancel and it goes through the whole cycle ad infinitum.

I've caught the boot with F8 and tried "Last known good configuration" but no joy. I don't know how to get out of this ... Read more

Re: An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. Internal Setup

When the fan comes on strong and for long periods it is trying to tell you there is a heat problem. Have you opened the computer and dusted out the inside?

Turning off the computer by holding in the power button may have corrupted some files.

If you can get it running without the strong fan noise, someone can help you use recovery mode to repair your XP SP3 install.

I've just put Windows 7 on laptop and tried reinstalling student version of Office Professional Plus 2007 (which was on there before but with Vista). It gets nearly halfway through installation before it says that it can't find setup.exe and asks me to browse folders to find where it is. I've tried looking but can't find it and so have to abort process.
Can anyone help?

Answer:Can't install Office Professional Plus 2007 - setup.exe error

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Was this a pre-installed version of Microsoft Office or do you have a DVD for it?

If it is a DVD you could try creating a new folder on your hard drive and copy the contents of the DVD to it, and then try to install it from there.

If it was pre-installed and you've installed Windows 7 instead of Vista the Office files may be missing or corrupted.

Was it a clean install of Windows 7 or an upgrade?

Have you checked to see if you have a Windows.old folder? If you have take a look in it and see what files are in there from your Vista installation.

I have product keys for Office 2016 Pro on MSDN, using those keys I can activate office 2016 by just entering the product key. MSDN has been migrated to a new Visual Studio Subscription site. On that new site under product keys I have my old Office 2016 keys listed as "Office Professional Plus 2016 (Discontinued) and new keys listed as "Office Professional Plus 2016". The discontinued keys still work, I'm still using them.
here's the weird part. Just tried to use one the new keys and I get menu's I have never seen before.
Sorry for the quality, camera acting weird on me. They looked fine in the viewer. I'm logged in with a local account on this PC. I only went as far as the last screen shoot. If I don't do the redeem online, office will not activate. It just asks for a product code and starts all over. If I enter one of my original MSDN keys on that first screen, it activates right away without the add this key an account stuff. If I use one of my new keys I'm back in the add this key to an account loop. I'm debating starting all over again after switching to a Microsoft account to see what happens.

Anybody else seen this? I did a quick forum search and didn't find anything?

Answer:Microsoft changed someething in the Office 2016 setup?

Ok, if I click the FAQ link I get here. Which makes me think my new keys are office 365 keys? They are listed as Retail though on VISUAL Studio? This is the first time I have used one of these new keys. Really confused now?

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Zaph

Hello Everyone,

I am setting up my email accounts in Outlook 2016. I always do a manual setup and on my outlook.com email accounts, I use Exchange ActiveSync.

My questions are this.

What is this new option of selecting Office 365 and when would I use this option? When I did select the Office 365 option and pressed next my outlook would crash, any fix? What is the best selection to choose from when setting up my outlook.com account that would be great for automatically syncing with my calendar etc. on outlook.com or apple etc.?

Thank you very much for any help and assistance.

Answer:Outlook 2016 Manual Email Account Setup, Office 365 option? & Crashes

Manual setup for outlook.com accounts is absolutely unnecessary, Outlook 2016 does that automatically in a few seconds.

That being said, if you insist in doing it manually the correct option is Exchange ActiveSync. Office 365 option is for so called workplace email accounts, Azure AD / Office 365 for Business or Enterprise users. You select that option only if your organisation uses Office 365 and you want to set up your workplace email in Outlook 2016.

Answer:Setup controller has encountered a problem during install

Hello,

Thanks for creating a new thread. So that you can get your work done, I would recommend converting your Powerpoint presentations to other formats so you can at least view them. To do this, use the free ZamZar: Zamzar - Free online file conversion

Simply upload the file, select an end format and download it. Powerpoint presentations can be converted to:

html ? Hypertext Markup Languageodp ? OpenDocument presentationpdf ? Portable Document Formatpng ? Portable Network Graphicppt ? Microsoft Powerpoint Presentationps ? Postscript documentswf ? Macromedia Flash Format File
Choose something like .pdf, convert the document and have fun working!

To fix the issue, are you using Office Powerpoint or Powerpoint Viewer? Then we will try to fix this issue properly.

I currently have a licence for Office 2010 for 3 PCs installed on 3 PCs.

I want to retire Office 2010 on my main desktop PC and use Office 2016 instead for which I've bough a cheap single PC licence. I then want to use the spare Office 2010 licence on a fourth PC (but only 3 will be using Office 2010).

What's the best way to install Office 2016 to keep all of my email settings? I'm assuming I should install Office 2016 in parallel with Office 2010 so the new Office 2016 installation picks up my email settings, then uninstall Office 2010 to free up 1 licence. Is this correct or is there a better way?

Desktop Computer running Windows 10, I'm currently using Microsoft Office 2007, and use Outlook for my emails.
I've recently got Office 2016 on DVD, can I just install 2016 over the top of 2007 ?, or am I better saving all my contacts/ emails and uninstall 2007 first. Thanks

Answer:Best Way To Install Office 2016

There have been considerable compatibility isues with Office 2016 and Microsoft Exchange 2007, but I have no personal knowledge of any problems installing over Office 2007.
Your suggestion of backing up contact details (and emails, as you use Outlook) and then running a clean install of Office 2016 might just be the safest route in the circumstances. You can then import your contacts and emails.

Answer:Setup has encountered an error during installation

I am having a similar issue. I was running Office 2007 fine then this morning I installed Visio 2003. It wonked my whole MS setup. All of my office link icons are now windows default, indicating that the "Start in Directory" has been lost. When I try to repair my Office install, hoping to rewrite the registry entries, whether from the Control Panel or the disk I get the same error.

Hopefully someone has seen this problem and will respond. i will keep provide any update I come up with.

Good day all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but after I installed Office 2016 Pro, I noticed that it immediately pooped all of the Office apps onto my PC including ones that I really don't need. There's no custom option to select the ones you want and the ones you don't (unlike Office 2013).
I read that it's apparently intended to do so and Microsoft actually has called it a technology (Click To Run Technology).

I was wondering if there's ANY way to be able to exclude apps before the install so that they won't install. Is there a file that I can edit and if so, how exactly should I edit it?

Answer:No Custom install for Office 2016?

Folks have complained about this same problem in the Windows 10 forums -- and the response there is that MS has removed the option to choose what components to install.

I have used various Office product throughout the years and on install had the opportunity to "Custom Install" which allowed all types of changes from programme file locations to programmes to be loaded.
My (detachable) laptop has a limited hard-drive size, and I would like to just install Outlook, Word and Excel, however I am not given the opportunity to choose what is install, and if I go to "add/remove programmes" I see uninstall; change; repair; however the change (which use to allow change of programmes loaded) does not give me the choice.

A message has come up saying that windows is unable to start because the registry could not be updated

Answer:fatal error encountered preventing setup

From past experience when registry errors get reported it can often be down to RAM.We need your computer make and model number. With PC's (rather than laptops) the RAM is usually easy to access. Best try cleaning its edge connectors with a soft pencil eraser then popping the stick(s) in and out a few times to clear any oxide off the sockets. Trying one stick at a time in first position can prove things if there is more than one stick. There is a RAM test here:http://www.memtest86.com/Of-course it could be something else but RAM is worth checking.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Ok, so I found the original dick and start to reformat the computer, I deleted the partition and created a new to install window on the process went fine that as soon as the Windows began loading and installing it received a FATAL ERROR, this is what it said:

Fatal Error
An Error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing.

One of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

Data Error (Cyclic redundancy check).

If you are installing from a CD there might be a problem with the disc; try cleaning the disc or using another disc.

If you are installing from the network; it is possible that not all of the files were copied correctly to your disk drive. Run the disk checking utility on you installation drive from the recovery console and start setup again.

Press ok to view setup log file

After pressing ok it read:

Error: Installation Failed: D:\l386\asms.
Error Message: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).

and then it repeated everything from above.

The disc is New and had no scratches on it and after pressing ok it would then try and reboot and then the same thing would happen over and over.

Is this still the virus or is something I am doing wrong?
Thank you for your help

Hey, I'm kind of in the dark corner about this issue, everyone. I have no idea what to do.

A while ago, I preformed a System Restore on my system because I was encountering some startup video issues. Upon restoring, everything seemed to be back to normal, the files I removed were back, and the ones I installed are gone.

However, I first opened an Applications folder where I keep shortcuts to various apps, and it gives me this message:

"SETUP ERROR
The setup has encountered a problem during install. Please review the log files for further information on the error."

So, I'm confused as to what is going on, as far as I know, this seems to be an error.

But, I pressed OK and then a Windows Installer comes up, so I wait. When it's done, my file opens, but regardless, this is an annoying task to preform every single time I startup my computer.

Anybody...? Thank you

I have Win 10 Pro running on an iMac via Parallels 10 and it runs perfectly. Also on the iMac I have Win 7 Pro, again running perfectly. Before anyone asks why both, it was simply to try Win 10 before ditching my Win 7 setup. On the Win 10 computer, I have installed the latest Office prog. The home and student version allows me tho install up to 5 copies on any platform.
My question is simply this, if I uninstall Office 365, will that be credited against my total installations or not?

I am getting the following error when I try to reinstall a custom setup office XP install on a windows 2000 machine.

"OFFXP: Setup Detects Office XP Running When You Attempt to Install Office XP"

I had the uninstall the office xp on this machine through add/remove programs because it was crashing alot. The custom install works fine on all other windows 2000 and xp machines.

I found the following error in MS knowledgebase
article 292497 (I can't post the link because I'm a new member)

It says to to hit ignore. If I hit ignore it does install but it doesn't install with the correct options for the custom install. (I have it set to not install outlook and it installs outlook, etc.) Obviously its not following the custom install.

Any ideas? I believe something is left on the pc from office when it was installed. I even ran the Removal Wizard on the Office XP Resource kit. It is supposed to remove everything left from previous versions. However, it must be missing something because I am still getting that error when I try to reinstall Office XP that is described above.

ThankS!

While performing a repair of an existing Windows XP Professional SP2 installation,

Setup encountered an error while trying to set system security.

An extended error has occurred.

C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\sp2.cab was copied to C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\intelppm.sys.
C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\sp2.cab was copied to C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\intelppm.sys.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Answer:Setup encountered an error while trying to set system security. (resolved)

Problem Solved!

BSOD during Setup Repair was caused by Virtual Box driver: VBoxNetFlt.sys .

Removing VirtualBox and manually cleaning up the 100+ garbage entries it left behind in the Registry, enabled the Setup to complete successfully . But it was the aforementioned file that was at cause.

I am running Windows Vista and when I try to install Microsoft Word 2010 it comes up with the following error message "Microsoft Word 2010 encountered an error during setup" but does not give any error code.  I've tried more than once to install
making sure I was under an administrator account but it still does the same thing.  I've searched for answers but nothing has helped.
Does anyone know what is going on and how I can fix this so I can use Word?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Fresh OS (Win XP) install. Install Office 2003 and upon restart I will get between 1 and 3 of these messages .... Winword.exe has encountered a problem ... it lets me open Word .. through safe mode or other ... but I did not REQUEST Word! It will do this with Excel.exe and ppt.exe. It is pretty aggravating .. I have unchecked everything I can think of in MSCONFIG.
I removed Office and problem went away. I reinstalled, and it is back.
Any offers for solutions??

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this post. I also have one similar to it in the MS Disucssion Groups under Office .. no answers there after 4 days.

Performed a clean install of Win 10 14332 and all is working well with the exception of installing my corporate MS Exchange email via Office 2016.

The issue is when I launch MS Outlook and provide the appropriate credentials (email, password, etc.) I receive the additional MS Security prompting for the corporate MS Exchange email/account (password (email or Domain account). The issue, even though the MS Security box is present I can?t click the field to enter the password and MS Outlook (32) goes into a Not Responding status in task manager ? see below.

Never had this issue in the past until this latest build ? installed successfully on every prior build. Any advice/direction would be appreciated.

I have recently installed Office Professional Plus 2016 (the full package, with nothing left out, as well as Outlook 2016). However, I recently discovered that Outlook 2016 doesn't support the Business Contact Manager addin.

So, can I install only Outlook 2013 (and BCM) alongside Office 2016, without removing/breaking either? Does anyone else have this setup working without issues?

Is there any way to define an installation directory other than C: for office 2016? I tried installing it a few months ago and there didn't seem to be via the installer, and the Office Deployment Tool didn't let to choose the installation target directory, only the source.

How could they think for one second that it was appropriate to strip this option out of the installer?

I've had about enough of Microsoft's "fuck you, we know best" attitude. I just stopped using Windows 10 due to how increasingly difficult it had become to prevent indiscriminate automatic driver updates.

Support for Windows XP and Vista will end April 2016 - Emsisoft BlogStatistics today show that both Windows XP and Vista usage dropped dramatically since then. Among our customers the percentage has already dropped below the ten percent mark, with a continued trend downwards. As a direct result, we decided not to renew our extended support for Windows XP beyond April 2016. We will drop support for both Windows XP and Vista in the next major version of all our products, which is scheduled for release in 2016.We fully understand that in many circumstances users have no way but to continue using XP or Vista, either due to computer upgrade budget restraints or because some old hardware devices dont come with drivers for newer operating systems at all. In these cases, we are offering partial refunds for any license time users cant use due to the changed minimum system requirements.

Answer:Emsisoft ends Windows XP and Vista support in April 2016

Fascinating I understand them dropping support for XP, But Vista?

Hi there
Windows update seems to get Office Updates into a total twist.

Apparently 2 ways of installing Office -- either the "Click to Install" from Ms directly or install from the MSDN iso.

If you install from the "Click to install" then updates come via clicking Update in the account settings.

If you install from the MSDN iso then updates come from standard Windows updates (enable update for other products from Ms).

However even with the click to install version you still see some updates coming via Windows update - and sometimes these fail.

Why Ms has two different update mechanisms for essentially the same product seems totally BONKERS and confusing to the user.

Note also if you have say the MSDN Office iso installed and now you want to add PROJECT 2016 then install fails with "Cannot install Click to Install Office products with Other versions -- so it would seem the only way is to uninstall the MSDN version and install the whole kybosh via the Click to install method.

A Real Pain if you need to install this stuff on a load of PC's as each one then needs a download (approx. 3GB each time ) - I'm using a VL version BTW.

The MSDN Iso is easy to install locally on a number of PC's.

Please FIX this mess Ms.

HELP!!! I always get an error before the installer finish its installation. In my Previous OS(Windows 7 Ultimate), Office 2016 works fine. Few weeks after Installing Windows 10, something went wrong and everytime I open Word it asks to repair it. I already tried repairing both "QUICK" and "ONLINE" but nothing works. Also uninstalled it fully using the "o15-ctrremove.diagcab" also done uninstalling by MANUAL and install it using the setup, but the setup stops before the installation done and saying an error happen, or somewhat like that. PLEASE! help me I need it ASAP for my college. Can't do projects on school because of hectic schedule and I got free time only on my home. PLEASE HELP!!!

Answer:Error installing Office 2016

Hi:

Are you trying to install from media (DVD) or from a download?

After UNinstalling, did you manually remove any leftover MS Office folders in your Program Files or Program Files(x86) directory before you tried to reinstall?

Is your MS Office installation properly activated?

If your license is provided from your school, does it permit installing on more than one system at a time?
(You mention having MS Office 2016 on a 2nd computer. I would guess such a restriction probably impacts ACTIVATION, rather than INSTALLATION, but I think MS has tightened up restrictions on "Educational" and "Site License" software. I used to be able to legally install/activate on 2 computers (my work laptop and my home desktop), but the new arrangement only permits 1 install/activation.)

Just a few thoughts...

I recently got a copy of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007, but so far I haven't had any luck installing it. My first problem is that while my wife needs 2007 for school, I need a special plug in for work that is only compatible with 2000. A co-worker said that the easiest way to do it (at least for Office XP and 2003) is to simply install 07 to a different folder than the default. This way you'd still have both versions. After doing that, when I tried to open Word 2000, the Windows installer would come up, and "finish installing" office 2000. When I tried to open 2007, the same thing happened. So realizing that something had gone wrong, I looked around on the net and found that you're supposed to simply tell the 07 installer to the keep older version of office, and it should go fine. So I uninstalled 07, then opened 2K to see if it still worked, and got the error "This is not a valid Windows install package". Figuring the best thing to do was to uninstall both versions and start over, I tried that, but got that same error when I tried to uninstall it. Next I tried that feat of MS engineering, System Restore, to go back to a point before I tried installing anything, and while it claimed the restore was successful, I still got the invalid install package error. After trying a bunch of different things I finally got 2K working again, but when I tried to install 07 the correct way, at about 50% I get "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 encountered an error ... Machine is Toshiba L70-C-13c, Windows 10 Home, 64 Bit, Core I3, 8Gb, Toshiba 1TB Disk.

Originally, the primary problem was that ITunes wasn't syncing IPad. From Apple help, noticed that USB hub controller was not detected, and that Apple USB driver was not being activated. Simply wasn't there, after numerous fixes. Spoke to Apple, went up to them, they suggested doing reinstall of Windows

Notice from McAfee reports that administrator account wasn't complete, which was puzzling. It's a Toshiba disk, which I find notoriously unreliable.

Windows was restored. Restore took 7 hours, yip, suggesting something possibly wrong with the disk. It did do a clean disk, half through the operation, and after completed, reinstalled ITunes, iPad synced right away, with the Apple USB driver activating correctly, in the USB device hierarchy, shown in device manager, and disappearing after sync was completed. So the original problem was fixed.

Did a short DST test, and it came back OK Looked at SMART diagnostics and they were fine as well. So disk seems to be in good condition considered it only 12 months old and managed to install a bundle of software, which went in fine.

So we come to the 1603 error on install of Office 2013 x 64.

Worked the problem according to Microsoft. Enabled logging by setting up a config.xml and loading it on the command line. Verbose logging showed some error codes, below.

I was sad to receive the following message from Microsoft today by e mail. It appears that in June WLM will no longer be able to synchronise my Hotmail account.

I need to keep my e mail store and contacts. Does anyone know of a free programme that runs on Win 7 and can sync Hotmail/Gmail and can import my contacts and old e mail message store from WLM? I Know Outlook 2016 will work but I was hoping a free programme is available.

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!
Thanks

We currently use Office 2007 and Office 2010 on our about 20 workstations. I'm looking to move to MS office 365 for hosted exchange. I found out that as of the first of this year, Microsoft no longer support Outlook 2007 or 2010 for hosted exchange. It seems to be working just fine so far at another site I'm involved with. The issue is that if you ever contact support, they will blame the version of Outlook you're on. So, I'm looking at options for upgrading.

Do you guys that are on office 365 for email using the premium version that includes the office subscription or buy Office 2016?

For the most part, we just need outlook, word and excel. We do have 6 people that will need powerpoint also.

Just looking for a recommendation from you guys on what makes the most sense.

Thanks!

Microsoft support for Office 2007 ends on 10/10/17. They say that new updates, bug fixes, and security patches will end on that date.

Will old or existing updates (published before October, 2017) still be available through Windows Update after support ends?

I need to do a clean reinstall of Windows 10 and all of my existing programs (Office 2007, etc.), but I may not have time to do that until late October -- which will be after support ends for Office 2007.

If I run Windows Update after my reinstall in late October, will it still generate old updates and patches for Office 2007? Or, will I have to search and download them manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog?

Thanks.

The issue is specific to Office 2016 on Win 10 (Office 2016 on Win 7, no problem, Office 2010 on Win 10, no problem). Certain documents (reported by a user who receives documents with Japanese text, haven't seen it happen with others) have the layout messed up, a 2 page Word doc gets spread over 4 pages, and I've been given some sample powerpoint slides which have text overflowing the end of the slide.

Word doc was originally in Legacy 2003 format, I did manage to make this particular document display correctly by saving it in .docx format, then enabling compatibility changes via vba, setting to 2010 compatibility and enabling "Use printer metrics to lay out document" based on what I read here: BUG!! Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes - Microsoft Community

The other sample file I received was a .pptx - haven't been able to find corresponding compatibility options in Powerpoint.

Wouldn't be quite so annoying if they didn't both display perfectly in Windows 7.

Answer:Office Document layout/margins overflow on Office 2016 + Win 10

Turns out it was some sort of font substitution issue. I noticed the fonts in Word/Powerpoint weren't present in the Windows font dir. Copied them over from another Win 7 machine, suddenly everything looks fine.

Not sure why Office 2010 did a better job of it than 2016, I couldn't really pick if there was a difference in the Japanese characters before and after the font, only that the page layout was stuffed...

Office 2016 Installation Routine Deleting Older Stand-alone Apps

I can't say I wasn't warned. I was part way through installing Microsoft Office 2016 on my primary workstation when I got a message that said, "Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016." The error message went on to say that if I decided to continue anyway, my copy of Microsoft Visio Standard 2013 would be removed. Since I had the original disk from when I purchased the software, I went ahead. Bad move. It turns out that when Microsoft says that Visio 2013 won't work with Office 2016, it means it won't even have the chance to work. Any attempt to reinstall the software will be thwarted. The fact that you paid for the software is beside the point. You're basically out of luck. When I went to the Microsoft community forums, which is where Microsoft handles much of its tech support, I discovered that I wasn't alone. Apparently hundreds of people who'd purchased stand-alone Microsoft Office products were affected, and they weren't happy about it.

Furthermore, the problem extended far beyond Visio. Users with Microsoft Project, Publisher, Access, InfoPath and SharePoint Designer were also affected. Likewise, Microsoft customers who purchased Office Apps that are normally part of Office suites but may have been purchased separately, such as Outlook 2013, were also affected.

Hi,

Before installing Office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, my username to logon to my laptop, was "AJ ANNING" and a specific pAasswAord. Now my username does not show up at logon. "JAMES ANNING" is what shows up, and the username is now my email "[email protected]" and the password is different. Going to user accounts in control panel the only user is "[email protected]". The user "AJ ANNING" is not there.
Also, I can no longer access 3 of my network drives.
Please advise,

Answer:Installing office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, PC username replaced

So even though "the password is different" you are still able to log onto the computer? I installed Office 365 on a new Notebook on Thursday and none of the log-in for the computer changed. As for the Networked drives, you may need to use File Explorer to Disconnect the drives then Map them again [I've had to a couple of times in the past].

As soon as the actual installation starts I get a message saying "Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 encountered an error during setup" and I have to close the window. There is no other detail on the failed install given.

I know I've fixes this before (has this the last time I re-installed Windows I think), but I cannot find the resolution anywhere! Some I found this time include deleting the registration key for Office, and deleting some "Rgstrtn.lck" file I couldn't find.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

If I can't get this to install I think I'll just go with that Open Office program.

Answer:"encountered an error during setup"

Type %temp% in run and hit enter, your temp folder wil open... Delete all files inside the folder and start the office 2007 installation.....

As we suspect it wil fail. Again type %temp% in run and hit enter, you will find a log file inside the folder.. Copy that file and uplod it here for us...

This is a very frustrating error. I am upgrading from XP SP2 to Windows 7. The computer hangs at "completing installation" and then restarts with this error. I have reinstalled XP and I still get this error. For the love of me I cannot install windows 7. I downloaded the iso from Digital River. The software is fine because I tried it but didnt activate it on my Lappy.

Please excuse my ignorance. I'm trying to reinstall my Office 2000 program after a format. However, when I insert the first CD I get this message.

The MSIEXEC.EXE file is linked to missing export MSI.DLL:222. Cannot launch C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msiexec.exe. A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I've checked the Device Manager and all items show as working properly. Also, I don't have any problems using CD-ROM, hard drives, mouse, keyboard, etc.

Can anyone tell me what is causing these error messages and how I might fix the problem? I'm not an expert user.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there

I think this comment is allowed - there is an NDA but I think this is OK. The latest update installs OFFICE 2016 just fine and works OK. Office 2010 is left untouched so you can run BOTH concurrently.

OUTLOOK 2016 though uses the same data file as Outlook 2010 so SEND from outlook 2010 hoses up with "Cant access Outlook data file".

However once you've sent the email with Outlook 2016 you can see it in the SENT folder of both Outlook 2010 and 2016 so using Outlook 2016 during the preview won't cause carnage to your existing office outlook.

So far very impressed -- FORGET OFFICE 2013 completely. 2016 is STREETS better and you can get rid of that hideous over white theme too. NDA so can't post image.

Note I'm using x-64 for both Office 2010 and 2016.

If you want to try the Links were open this morning -- this could have been an error because they might close again soon.
So far so good -- note some people get activation message unless they have Office 365 subscription --I don't have and didn't seem to get that message.

Am using Windows 10 x-64 Enterprise as the OS I'm testing this on --running on a REAL machine, build 9926.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi, is there any way of backing up all email accounts in Outlook 2013 (including username+password) and restoring them in Outlook 2016 without having to manually recreate the accounts? Thanks

Answer:Migrating Outlook from Office 2013 to Office 2016

You didn't say what types of accounts they are, but mostly likely there isn't a way, unless there is a third-party tool or these are Exchange accounts.

If you wish to carry out a a complete repair of your Office 2016 or Office 365 installation on your Windows 10 PC, you can choose to undertake an Online Repair.
Quick Repair runs faster but only detects and replaces corrupted files. Online Repair takes longer, but does an uninstall and a complete repair.
To carry out an Online Repair, open Control Panel > Programs & Features. Here right-click on Office installation and select Change. You will see the following box.
Select Online Repair and let setup do its work. This post offers additional options on how to Repair Office & Uninstall individual Microsoft Office programs, along with help of switches.

Since upgrading my main desktop to Windows 10, I began having trouble with my Office 2013 installation. I would get the "swirling circle" and the "application has stopped responding" error messages very frequently. I was able to buy the Office 2016 suite for $10 through my employer (Microsoft HUP) and since upgrading the application, I have not seen the error. Of course, I've only had Office 2016 on my PC for one day, so I'll keep checking to see if the problem returns. Has anyone else had issues with Office 2013 and Win10? Thanks!

Answer:Office 2013 issues, upgraded to Office 2016...

In fact Office is working nicely for me in Windows 10. I had PCs with Office 2007 and even with the old Office 2003 and I have not yet had complaints about crashes.

Microsoft offers a FixIt tool, which allows you to do a clean uninstall of the Office 2013 files so that you can afterwards create a clean Office installation again. As an additional ressort, there even is a description of how to manually uninstall Office 2013. I did not have to test it, but that might have helped you as well.

I recently upgraded to Win 10, also installed Office 2016 Pro Plus. My Brother all in one printer scanned to email easily on Win 7, no longer does, Brother could not figure it out. I tried sending to email from Word, get "mapi failure, unspecified error".
Hoping that if I can solve this, scan to email will also work.
I have researched this issue for many hours, can find no solutions that are not old ones, referring to files and directories that do not exist. Tried renaming mapi32.dll (after installing the "take ownership" app.), to no avail. It never gets reinstalled. Tried copying it from a newer laptop, still no joy.

Using Windows Live mail client, set as default in Windows 10.

Most of the posts I can find on the internet regarding the mapi failure are for older systems, this is very new Windows 10, and new Office 2016.

Very disappointed in Microsoft issuing new software that will not work together!

I had the Beta version for Office 2010 and uninstalled the Beta version prior to installing the new office 2010. I get an error that halts the installing process.

The error says;

Setup is unable to proceed due to the following
MS office 2010 does not support upgrading from a prerelease version of
MS office 2010. You must first uninstall the prerelease version of MS office 2010 products & associated technologies.
Correct these issues listed above and re-run setup
I uninstalled everything that related to MS office 2010 (Beta)

What must I check to make sure all files are uninstalled?

Thanks

I've recently purchased a copy of Office 2007 Standard edition. Everytime I try to install it, windows gives me this error message: Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. An error occured during the installation, and setup was unable to complete.

Now what? I tried a different CD-ROM, but it does the same thing. I only have one user license so I can't put it on another machine. I ran a checkdisk and that didn't help. Should I uninstall the trial of Office 2007 before installing Office 2007? I'm currently using Office 2003

Please help!

PS- This is NOT a trial version.

Hi there

will office 2016 be available as a stand alone (non subscription) product for non corporate users. If I follow my link to Buy Now from the trial preview it only offers me Office 365 or Office 2013.

I'm NOT interested in subscription software or Office 2013.

I suppose then back to Office 2010 !!!!. - I'll see if Office 2016 appears within the next few days --still have 70 days left on the trial preview.

Cheers

Hi there

It looks like that a Student and Teacher edition of Office 2016 will be available at around 90 GBP - 105 EUR while an Office 365 subscription will be around 60 GBP - 73 EUR for 1 year. Since the Student edition will work on 3 machines it seems to me the subscription model is bad value compared with Office 2016.

Now there might be a caveat -- not sure if OUTLOOK 2016 is included with Student and Teacher --we'll have to wait and see.

There *Might* also be an Upgrade price from Office 2010 / 2013 too.
