Laptop plugged in and charging, but not charging

Question: Laptop plugged in and charging, but not charging

I found out yesterday morning that for some reason, the battery on my laptop isn't charging. I'm staying at my mother's house for the weekend and since then the problem has occured. At home, it always charged properly and never gave me any problems. Could I need a new battery? I've tried going to Device Manager and uninstalling and re-installing drivers and the whole 9 yards, yet the problem still persists. Thank you in advance

Preferred Solution: Laptop plugged in and charging, but not charging

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. I have turned on my laptop and found, that the battery doesn't charge - there is "Plugged in and not charging" message near the battery indicator in the tray. I have tried to follow the steps from the http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... , but it didn't hepl - the program freezes on the first step "Now configuring the program..." http://take.ms/k0TBi Have also tried to delete/reinstall Energy Management - nothing helped. OS - Windows 8.1 x64.Power Management Version 8.0.2.14. (have also tried to reset battery via that toold - didn't help). Thanks in advance.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Good day, I bought my Lenovo G580H 1 week before, and before few days i saw, that the battery is not charging. First time the battery was on 61%, later when i was watching the film without AC adapter and after it pluged the AC adapter i saw, that the battery is on 7% and not charging. So no it's not charging too and when you want to watch a film or something without ac adapter laptop is truns off autmatically. So for what i should be angry? For Lenovo or for Windows? Thanks for your help, and sorry for my bad language .Regards from Lithuania.

I recently had my Qosmio F55-Q502 repaired by Toshiba.
Two issues were addressed and one is fixed.

However, the second was attempted to be resolved unsuccessfully.

When I attempt to play multi-media games such as Call of Duty IV, even if the system is fully charged, within minutes the system will start to blink the "backlights" and then when I see the charging icon, it says "Plugged in, Not Charging."

This really concerns me as I have read online many similar issues, but none of the solutions seems to work.
To have to restart the machine everytime this happens and your in the middle of a game, really stinks!
I even had it happening with SimCity4 which is an ancient game.

Any good suggestions on this?
They did replace the battery when it was sent in which seems to be what most people say needs to be done.

Answer:Qosmio F55-Q502 - charging icon says: Plugged in, Not Charging

Hello

If your Qosmio notebook was in repair I think you should not discuss about any issue on forums but make a pressure on service and clarify every single problem with your notebook.
Please do this because the warranty is still valid and now is the time to clarify everything.

I am not hardware specialist but it sound to me as some power supply electronic issue but I cannot say for sure. Talk with service. Try to clarify this with them. Be nice, be cool and everything will be ok.

Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

Answer:XPS 12 9Q23 Power Charging Disabled / Plugged in, NOT CHARGING

Hi DAEMONROD.
Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help
I hope you can ... Read more

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Thank you

Hey,

I just got my computer back from having the motherboard switched out because of another problem, but now my battery will not charge. The light is on and it says it is charging, but it isn't. Should I attempt a gauge reset or something else?

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.
Thanks!

Answer:Says plugged in and charging, but is not charging. Just got motherboard fixed.

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Answer:T410 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.

Shashi

My laptop suddenly stopped charging since yesterday. It is hovering around the 5-7% range since yesterday and continues to say that it is charging, when in actuality it is not. I have tried to reset the laptop, as well as uninstall and install the ACPI drivers, but nothing seems to work. It has only been a month since I got this laptop.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

hi kanyewest,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

hi, i am writing this on my desktop as my laptop battery is discharged now so cannot power up.

i am running a toshiba satellite L300D-10Q with vista. it was my dad's & is probably about 4 years old now with original battery still installed. recently i noticed that when i had the power lead attached the power & battery led's would flash constantly & hovering the cursor over the battery icon, it showed as not charging.

i bought a new adaptor & still had the same problem.

so thinking it was the battery on the way out i bought a new one which was an alternative & cheaper just to prove if that was the problem & for about 15 mins the new one charged. then the original problem came back.

i have tried powering up without the battery installed & nothing happens.

any advice would be appreciated

thanks

I need a new battery for a laptop that is a little over three years old. The computer does not turn on at all when on battery but works fine when plugged in. My frustration is that I spent over 40 minutes on the phone with HP technical support and was rudely told that the computer, which just went off my extended warranty, was no longer supported and they would not sell me a new battery or even let me know which battery to puchase on Amazon. The computer is only three years old and outside the battery works fine so I would really prefer to to just get a new battery rather than having to purchase a whole new computer. Could someone please let me know the battery that I should purchase for an HP TouchPad Ultra book 4?

I noticed my laptop was not charging when plugged in. It says 'plugged in, not charging'.The battery eventually died and I left it alone for a few hours dead. I plugged it in after that and it started charging again after that, so I charged it up all the way and I thought all was good, until I unplugged it and the battery began to discharge. After that it went back to the 'plugged in, not charging' status.  I did a battery diagnostic which said the battery is good, so it isn't the battery (plus this laptop is only 10 months old). I tried installing any updates/drivers HP said I needed. One of those was some BIOS updated which I did and after viola, it began charging again. While it was charging I unplugged and plugged the charger and it was good, so I charged it up until fully charged. I unplugged it at 100% and let it go down to 96% and tried to recharge it and again got the 'plugged in, not charging' status.  Any clue as to what is  causing this? It seems like its some kind of software issue.

Hi there,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L655 Laptop, and it was working fine up until a week ago, when it suddenly displayed the message: 'PLUGGED IN NOT CHARGING'
After quite a bit of troubleshooting, I have tried many things including removing the battery and running directly on A/C power. Everything appeared normal from a mechanical point of view.
However, after also updating the driver software of all 3 components of the battery (found through the device manager), the only thing that works each time, but is very soon reversed, is actually uninstalling 'Microsoft ACPI-complaint control method battery.'
Firstly, I have no idea what this actually is...but i cant have to do this every day in order to get my laptop to charge. I cant always have a power supply when I need to use my laptop...can someone please help me as to what on earth has happened to my laptop, and what I can do to permanently fix it?
Thanks very much,
Anelia

I have a HP G72-b60US Notebook PC that I have had since December of 2010, and it is at 7% and when I hover over the battery thing it says 'plugged in, not charging'.

I have heard this could be a defective battery, but I don't want to have to go buy a new battery and then find out that it still doesn't work.

What could be wrong with it?
What should I do?

Answer:My HP Laptop Says 'Plugged In, Not Charging'

I had this happen on a HP laptop before. I found a fix online that when I read it, I thought to myself there was no way that this would work, but I was wrong, and it did work.

Basically, here are the steps that I would do when my laptop had the same problem. Clean all contacts for the battery using a dry toothbrush. Make sure the power is off and disconnected when doing this. Once done, connect the battery to they laptop and pop it in and out really fast about 30 times. With the battery in, and the system plugged in, turn on the system. Check to see if it is still not charging. If still not charging, with the system on and plugged in, pop the battery in and out of the system really fast about 30 times again. At this point is where my system would all of a sudden show that the battery was charging again.

Again, I have no idea why this worked for me, and other people that found it on the same forum that I did. If you are not comfortable doing this, don't do it. The machine I did it on I barely ever used, and didn't care if something got messed up. If this is your main system and you have a lot of data on it that you need, I would suggest backing up any data before attempting this.

My laptop is a Lenovo T520 Thinkpad, Core i5 vPro, Windows 7 Professional, Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0. I got this laptop as a Christmas present from my sister, it was working fun when I got it, and then I did something stupid(I Forgot) and now it says "Plugged In, Not Charging", nothing else, it doesn't say, "Replace Battery" or anything like that, it just says "Plugged In Not Charging". I tried doing things, like uninstalling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and doing a scan for hardrive changes and it still didn't work! Please someone help me!

Hello, InstaCreamIs that message (notification) from the system power (battery) icon in the system tray? What is the current battery charge level? If Lenovo Power Manager application is installed, could you provide a snapshot of the battery settings? Launch PM -> Advanced mode -> Battery tab -> Battery Maintenance button. We need this screen.Make a snapshot and give a link here as you don't have rights yet to add the images to the forum.

Hi when I have my laptop turned off and my charger is plugged on with the plug turned on, I have a problem.

My problem is when my computer boots up in the system tray (bottom right) my laptop icon says "plugged in, not charging"... I then have to take out my laptop charger wire and then replug it, this can be rather annoying.

Is there any way so when I load my laptop it automatically recognises to charge?

My dell Inspiron 3420 bios version A09 suddenly stopped charging battery , and the power icon show this message(Plugged in and charging) but my battery does not charge.
I tested another charger and another battery but did not help.
Thinking that changing bios might  help,I am trying to change the bios but can't downgrade even i tried /forceit command.
I can access logic board if for troubleshooting someone could educate me about  voltages of sda, scl and dc jack connector to the board.

Hi all,I have a brand new i7 Yoga 13 running windows 8 from Best Buy. As soon as it booted up, I have not been able to charge my battery. As I hover over the icon, it says "Plugged in and Charging" but it does not include a percentage. I have had it plugged in overnight, and if I unplug the computer, it will die immediately. I have tried updating my BIOS, energy managment and setting it to "Maximum battery life," but nothing changes. Thoughts? Thanks

My G50-70 of less than a year just got a dead battery. The battery is constantly at 7%. It says "Plugged in, charging" but it doesn't actually charge. Please help!

Answer:G50-70 Battery says "Plugged in, Charging" but not charging

Hi Mistwild82,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.

Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.

Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.

Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

So I unboxed my Ideapad Y500 yesterday and it's working wonderfully...that is, everything except my battery. When it was running low at 10% battery life last night I decided to plug in the AC adapter, which, as is normal, caused the battery icon in the corner to read "10% available (plugged in, charging)". However, what's not normal is that when I turned the laptop off and left it to charge overnight, the battery indicator light at the front of the system was still orange/red, occasionally flashing. I turned on my system again to find that my battery life hadn't budged at all despite recognizing that the adapter was plugged in and charging. I know other people have asked about something like this, though most of them say their battery icon reads "plugged in, not charging", so I'm not sure how to solve it. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Y500 "plugged in, charging"...but not actually charging?

HiNot sure it is happening but can you try this:remove battery and ac adapter; press and hold the power button for 30-40 seconds and then put it all together. Hope fully it should fix the problem.Regards

Answer:G50-70 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hello,

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.

I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.

What else can I do?

Thank you

Edit:
******Solution******

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.

a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Thus:
1. The problem is som... Read more

I have a Lenovo G580 laptop. I formatted my system and it was working good but slow before formatting. After formatting i got a status of 49% available(Plugged in, Not Charging). I shut down my system completely and removed the adaptar and found that the battery light is still glowing. I remove the battery and inserted. I still found the battery light is glowing. Then i started the system with adaptar checked status as (plugged in, charging) but the power percentage is not going up. I decided to drain the battery and then check, so i was working without the adaptar & the power drained normally in usual time. Then i plugged in to adaptar and Currently the status is "0% (Plugged in, Charging)"  but its not charging.   Please help.

Answer:G580 Plugged in, charging but not charging

hi Abhijeettiria,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Youre troubleshooting is correct and pointed out the battery.
One last thing you could try is to run the Battery gauge reset via the Lenovo Energy Management software,
If that still gave you the same problem I suggest having the battery Replaced via warranty claim or by purchasing a new battery.

Best regards

I just plugged in a brand new battery and it says that it's plugged in and charging but it isn't actually charging. I've searched the internet and I've come up with possiblythe power brick not having enough juice to charge the battery. My power brick says Input: AC100-240V 1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 20V --- 4.5A it being a motherboard problem. Is there any utility or tutorial on how to check to see if it's a motherboard problem?  Any other suggestions on how to solve this issue or at least identify the problem would be much appreciated.

Have an old laptop asus u45jc-a1. I haven't used this laptop in a while since its i3-370m processor and thus slow for what i do. Well i recently powered up this laptop and then put the charger in it...

I get 0% available, plugged in, charging. Basically that means the moment i unplug the charger, the laptop immediately shuts down. Thus even if it has a few minutes, that would be okay. I had bought a replacement charger on ebay a while back for pretty cheap, it was under 20 dollars i recalled. It worked for a while but i never really used this laptop but got charger mainly because well the asus laptop still works and thus just get a replacement charger.

Does this mean my charger doesn't work? Or could it be possibly the battery?

I see a thread here a while back where someone fixed it by going to this and uninstalling it. Is this safe to do? It ask are you sure you want to delete this and well... that seems to be important.

"Plugged In, Not Charging"

Thanks.

My laptop is barely a year old and I rarely unplug my laptop, so this is weird. How do I solve this problem?- I made sure the power socket is fully pushed into the machine with no silver showing.- I tried the HP Battery Validity program which said there is no problem.- I tried following the restart process by powering up and then repeatedly pressing F2 to follow the instructions, but that doesn't work when the battery is at 0%.Is there a solution? Today, I noticed my laptop kept shutting itself down every time it was accidentally unplugged. Then, I looked at the battery and it's at 6% battery life and says "Plugged in, not charging".  I shut down the computer and let it charge for a few hours while we went to dinner, it did not charge at all (in fact, it went down, it was 7% before I left the house).  Still automatically shuts off if I unplug.   I've tried the battery test but the computer won't even turn itself on since the battery is so low so that is out of the question.

Hi @mciaccia, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 and issues with the Battery. Here is a link to calibrate and test the Battery.  Here is a link to troubleshoot the battery on a Notebook. You should be able to complete these with the Notebook plugged into the AC adapter. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating. If that does not help try the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. There is a chance that it is corrupted. It is reading the battery level wrong, so the computer thinks the battery level is higher then what is actually is, so when it runs out of juice it shuts down.Go to Device Manager, Select BatteriesRight click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed thereClick Uninstall, at the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driverShutdown the computerRemove the battery for minute and then put it back inWhen the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.Go to Device ManagerSelect BatteriesRight click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed thereClick "Search automatically fo... Answer:plugged in not charging.......Brand new laptop.......

BIOS updates are only done for very specific and known reasons (such as installing a different CPU). It is very rare to need to do so and they have been known to brick the motherboard. If it's brand new then don't mess with it. Return it under warranty before they blame you for whatever is wrong. So I just bought this laptop about a month ago (actually exactly a month ago), and a couple times recently I'd go to start GTA V on the laptop, and the PC would hibernate after a few minutes of gameplay.  The game runs fine up until that point, but I know it's going into hibernation.  Before playing GTA V, the battery indicates the regular percentage, but once the game starts going the system seems to forget the battery percentage.  I recently installed the latest BIOS update, which allows me to plug in my 1TB HDD into the CD slot in the computer, so maybe it's that? The only thing I can think causes it (after the battery goes to 0%), is that the CPU goes into turbo mode, and draws more power than the charger can give out, which causes the system to automatically go into hibernation mode. I'm not entirely sure, but at this point, I'm getting pretty ticked off.

my laptop is stuck at 99% plugged in,charging.

so here is the story..
i was watching a video on youtube after few minutes the laptop got shutdown immediately without any message, and the laptop was too hot and i think it had shut down because of overheating(this had never happened) .then i left it to cool down ,after some minutes i started it without plugging it to charge .so i checked that the laptop's fan was making noise and running in less speed .after sometime it gets less noisy and the speed was also decreased but when i started a fan dust removal all seemed good ,no noise or any speed decrease, but sometimes it did.and all the laptop's functions and performance it all seemed as it was before.when i plugged in my charger it was slowly charging but at 99% it's stuck.99% plugged in,charging.
my laptop- lenovo Z510
so is there any way to fix the fan noise and speed problem ?
i guess that the battery stuck in 99% might take time to fully charge.
and as always

I don't know If I'm posting to the right thread, but whatever. As you can tell by the subject, my laptop is plugged in to a wall outlet, but it isn't charging, nor is the battery depleting when I use it. This problem only appeared some days ago. Below is a list of everything I have tried doing to fix this problem, as well as other information.  The wall outlet works fine, I plugged my phone into it and it started charging. The computer doesn't recharge to a certain percentage, it just sustains the battery percentage it has while it's plugged in. Uninstalling and Reinstalling Micorsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Microsoft AC Adapter via the Device Manager did nothing, nor did installing new drivers for them. Resetting the BIOS didn't help. I checked to see if the battery was secure, so I removed it and made sure it was completely plugged in to the computer. It didn't help. Shutting down the computer, unplugging everything, and holding down the power button for 40 seconds didn't work. I can't and have never been able to turn on the computer without the battery, even if it's plugged in. The LED next to the charging port does blink three times when I try to turn on the computer without the battery while its plugged in, and it doesn't blink when it isn't plugged in, so it can't be a problem with the cord. I checked if the physical connection between the charging port and the rest of the computer was secure, and it is... Recently i noticed that my battery was not charging and i was getting a message "plugged in not charging". So i performed a solution as given on youtube and it worked fine. But i thought the problem was solved but it continued to happen after several days. Now every time the problem occurs i have to run through the same solution. It is getting really annoying. Is there any fix to this?

I currently use this fix.
Uninstall the "microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" driver
Shut down laptop
Remove battery
Startup laptop and then insert the battery when laptop turns on

The other problem i noticed when this occurs my PC becomes really really slow. Only after performing the above procedure it works fine.

I have a lenovo z50-70 laptop which is hardly 3 months old and works really well apart from this problem

Answer:Laptop showing plugged in not charging

Hi I have recently started having trouble with my laptop being plugged in but not charging most of the time. I receive an alert when I start up the laptop saying that the Ac Power Adapter Wattage cannot be determined, however the charger used to (and still on occasions) work fine, but slowly this has seemed to start happening more and more frequently over time. Usually however after I have the computer plugged in for a while it will start randomly charging, but sometimes this can happen in minutes sometimes it can take several hours. I have tried using the laptop without the battery and the same thing happens so I know it is not that. Is there a way I can find out what is causing the problem? I believe it is most likely wither the adapter or the power jack but I am not sure to to tell which one.
Laptop is a Dell Latitude E5410 if that is needed.

As per the thread title, the battery is recognised as being present, but is not charging, and when the power is disconnected, will not run on battery power. I have come to the conclusion that it is most likely a hardware issue, see below.
Comptuer is the one in my 'System Specs', just on 2 years old, out of warranty period.
I have checked the battery connections and visually all is in order.
I have searched, and applied what appears to be a common fix for this, but did not change the situation;
>Disconnect AC
>Shutdown
>Remove battery
>Connect AC
>Startup
>In Device Manager, Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall >Shutdown
>Disconnect AC
>Insert battery
>Connect AC
>Startup
It runs normally using the power cord, so I am thinking that it is an issue with either the battery or something more sinister, within the computer/motherboard, as it was fine one moment, but not the next.

Prior to this the battery would last approx. 2 hours, and HW moniter showed it had around 30% wear, now shows 56% wear.

I have never had a battery suddenly die like this, but am thinking it is a distinct possiblity given the symptoms. Should I bite the bullet and order a new battery and hope that this is the fix? or is there likely a solution I have not come across?

Thanks in advance, Tim.

Answer:Laptop Battery - Plugged in, not charging.

Buying a new battery is an expensive way to test but it may be the only way unless you have a multi tester and can test your battery. Two hours seems like a very short time for a laptop to run on a full charge unless you are playing videos constantly.

I have had this issue with a MacBook Pro and it turned out to be a 4 pin connector under the keyboard that was faulty.

I have 2 HP9000's and I had intermittent issues with battery "battery plugged, charging" (without actually charging the battery) "battery plugged in, Not charging" sometimes a RED X on the battery Icon or sometimes "no battery" and if I removed the battery sometimes this would change but the battery still would not charge! both of these laptops showed similar issues, after reading about the cable issue that connects the motherboard to the top cover (where the volume, Q, DVD control etc.) I disconnected the "top cover" from the first laptop and now the battery issue if fixed, on the second laptop I disconnected the "top cover" but the battery issue remained? so after lifting the keyboard and removing the "flat cable that connects the "top cover to the mother board, it to is now working perfectly.  Also the % battery is also working.

Now I could start to check out if its the same issue with both laptops either the cable or the small PC board under the top cover, but as they are now old models and I didn't need the touch buttons to work I left the cable out of them both, now I have 2 charging/working  laptops   apart from the CD/DVD player not working on both?? but that's for another day.

Hi Everyone!I have a Gateway laptop that was purchased new this last October. It has Windows 7 Home premium on it. It has been working great, no problems at all, Windows 7 has been rock steady. But (knew that was coming, right?) after a few updates this week, all of a sudden I get The "power icon" telling me that the laptop is "Plugged in, not charging".If I unplug the adapter the icon gets a red "X" and shows 0% charge, but the laptop will run for hours until it actually is depleted. I did a Google search on this problem and find it is a very well known bug that started in Vista and is also showing up with Windows 7.If I go into device manager and uninstall the " Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and then let Windows 7 re-install it when I restart, that fixes the problem for about an hour or until the next time I reboot, then it happens all over again. I have checked my update history, but can't find an update that has anything to do with the charging system..It is NOT a hardware issue, I have a spare battery and adapter and it does the same with them. The battery is charging, but Windows 7 doesn't know it.Does anyone know if Microsoft has put out a fix for this? If so, I haven't been able to find one. Thanks in advance for any help!MuskyIf the voices inside my head paid rent, I'd be rich!

Run a battery test in the diagnostics....tap F2 as you power up and let us know the outcome, please. Symptoms point to a bad battery, which does happen too early sometimes but would be covered by waranty if applicable.

Hello Everyone, I have a "HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC" with Windows 8.1 and is almost two years old.  A few months ago I had my laptop on my lap and it randomly turned off, after turning it back on it did not charge above around 84%.  Every now and then I would plug it in to charge and it would say "plugged in, not charging" so I fixed the issue by turning it off, taking the battery out, turning it on, uninstalling  Microsoft ACPI-Control Compliant Method Battery, turning it off, putting the battery in, turning it back on, and the ACPI-CCMB would update and it charged back up to around 84%. As of about a week ago, that stopped working. I've tried updating the ACPI-CCMB, doing the above multiple times, and nothing works. I noticed the recommendation for the HP battery utility but 1) that didn't work in the past when it wouldn't fully charge and 2) the computer has a 0 percent charge and will not hold a charge, so in the step where it says to turn it on unplugged, my computer won't turn on. After trying to use the HP battery utility a few things happened. 1) I have to mash the escape button in order to access the menu, pressing it when the logo appears like it says does nothing. 2) When I tried to run the battery test, it said 2 minutes remaining and 1% complete before freezing the computer up and after pressing the power button it instantly turned off. I don't know if I need to get a new battery or if I just need to try something I haven't hea... This has probably been done before but I thought I'd ask.And i've been all over google for answers and tried all sorts.  The problem still remains. The laptop is running 64 bit windows 7.  I've had it a year, and all of a sudden, this happens.  Same charger, runs off the mains, reinstalled Lenovo's energy management software and am now running a battery gauge reset - but the battery is still not charging and is showing 7%. Any clues?TIA

Update. I'm running the Energy Management utility and it is telling me that I have an illegal battery. And this can't be right because it came with the laptop and it says "Lenovo" on it.And it worked up until yesterday.

I have a Vista Laptop that is not charging at times. The power jack it pushed in and both my chargers spark when I move the plug around so it could charge. I don?t know if it?s my laptop or the Charger. Should I get the power jack fixed, get a new battery or a new charger? Please Help!!

Answer:Laptop charger plugged in but not charging

Esmmy, look in the hole on your laptop where the power adapter would plug in and you'll see the silver power pin. Using a push button pen, put it on the end of the power pin and see if you can move the pin at all. Any movement on that pin means it's broken and the DC Jack needs to be replaced. Most DC Jacks are soldered to the motherboard and need to be repaired by someone experienced in desoldering and soldering.

If the DC Jack is broken, the power adapter won't charge your battery since it's not making a solid connection inside. Moving it around too much while plugged in could short something, cause further damage or even a fire.. Best to have it repaired by an experienced technician.

Hi,

Over the last two months my laptop's ability to charge it's battery has degraded.
It went from being able to charge a battery fully (100%), to not being able to charge beyond 98%, then 66%, then 30%, and now finally it says "0% availability (plugged in, charging)", but it never increases in charge.

Thus the laptop works when plugged into the charger, but will not switch on when attached only to the battery.

I have restarted the computer multiple times - first shutting the machine down, then unplugging it, removing the battery, holding the start button down for one minute, then reattaching the battery, plugging the charger back in and restarting the machine.

I have installed updates for "Batteries" (ie. Microsoft AC Adapter, Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and Microsoft Composite Battery) in Device Manager.
I have also uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI Complaint Control Method Battery and shutdown and restarted the laptop repeatedly.

Just now I called Toshiba support and updated BIOS from 1.50 to 1.70, then restarted the computer, but again the battery will not charge.

I bought a new battery which showed that it was fully charged when when I attached it to my laptop, but when the charge depleted to 0%, I got the same message as with the other battery: "0% availability (plugged in, charging)".

I am really stumped. How else can I attempt to increase the battery charging capability of my laptop?

Answer:My laptop is plugged in, but battery is not charging

In my opinion old battery was definitely defective.
Is your new battery original Toshiba battery or some third part product?

When you start notebook without battery and put it in place when Windows is loaded does the problem persists?

Hi ABHAYHENDRE,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter?
Test with another adapter and battery and check.
Force the BIOS flash if required - http://dell.to/2hnhjs4
If the adapter is not detected, test another adapter. If the adapter fits in loose, replace the dc port - http://bit.ly/2hxR3OO - this is the part you need.
If nothing works, then I would suspect a motherboard fault.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
My personal suggestion is that, if the motherboard is being replaced, then you could invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.

Answer:Dell laptop battery Plugged in, not charging

What exactly are you trying to charge? Are you charging it with the charger that came with the device? It's possible that the charger you are using doesn't provide enough amps to properly charge the device. If you were using the charger that came with it, have you tried a different charger?Lastly, have you tried a different outlet?User Info Page Biography for full specs.

I apologize if this thread is in the wrong section. If so, please move it.

My laptop is not able to charge while being plugged in. While someone was using the laptop, it just turned off due to lack of battery. The thing is, the laptop was plugged in. So now I'm stuck with a non recharging laptop that won't turn on.

If it helps, I have noticed several times (before the actual problem occurred) that when I check the battery status, it would sometime say that it's plugged in but not charging. And the laptop seemed to be hot most of the time.

So, what's the problem? The cord? The actual laptop? What exactly could have cause it and how to resolve the problem?
